 The Varden's Thief
One thing I was thinking about, is CP ever going to say why the thief who stole Saphira's egg freaked and didn't steal the others? Do you guys think it's relevant? I don't know, but it seems weird how no one in the books seems to know what happened there.. Do you guys have any ideas about it?

 Re: The Varden's Thief
Um the thief has a name and is relatively important in the books. Jeod. He didn't freak, he was being attacked by Morzan I believe and who knows who else. I can't remember that part very well but the things that were left out of the fight don't really matter too much if he hasn't described them already or cant be known by the characters whose point of view the book is told. Also, I highly doubt the eggs were kept together so he wouldn't have been able to steal both of them and even if they were both together, they are quite large and it would have been hard to carry both of them at once.

 Re: The Varden's Thief
Who else tried to go after the eggs then? Pretty sure it was Jeod and Brom.

 Re: The Varden's Thief
No C.P. says very clearly that Morzon killed the guy who stole the eggs.

 Re: The Varden's Thief
Jeod found the secret passageway into Galbatorix's castle in a book (he was a bibliophile, remember?) but he wasn't the person who stole the egg. It was a guy named Hefring of Furnost, or something like that. He only managed to get one egg, Saphira's, for reasons never specified, or at least not to my knowledge. Brom and Jeod went hunting after Morzan, who was hunting Hefring.
You can find it here: Brisingr, page 610, in the chapter titled 'Two Lovers Doomed'.
And also here: Eldest, page 497, in the chapter titled 'An Unexpected Ally'.
I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas about why the thief only got one egg.

 Re: The Varden's Thief
Cool you've read the books.
I think he probably only got one because of an unexpected snag of some sort, maybe the defenses were thicker than they thought, I don't know.

 Re: The Varden's Thief
Brom worked as a gardener in Morzan's castle, having managed to find a weakness in the castle's wards. Brom was soon caught up in a romance with Selena, Morzan's personal agent, the Black Hand. They would meet whenever Morzan was away on a mission for Galbatorix.
Brom's fervor led him to a scholar named Jeod, who claimed to have discovered a passage into Urû'baen. Brom and Jeod organized the successful theft of one of the three remaining dragon eggs, all of which were in Galbatorix's possession. However, the thief, Hefring of Furnost, fled with the egg instead of bringing it to the Varden. Brom and Jeod raced against the Forsworn and Ra'zac for the egg.
Brom and Morzan hunted the thief, but Morzan was faster and killed Hefring, recovering the egg for Galbatorix. Brom did however catched up and personally killed Morzan, taking Saphira's egg and Morzan's sword Zar'roc into his keeping.
They did however never found out why Hefring only took one egg.
