i thought her story kind just went out the window in brisingr it kind of seemed C.p wanted her all wrapped up and forgotten

i dunno, they did say that she still can sense the hurts, so maybe they'll bring her back to get rid of galby

yeah possibly i was just wondering because i thought it was a bit odd to just end her story so soon in the book

i mean what if eragon captures galby and torchures galby and elva senses it and frees him.

For Eragon to even think about torturing Galby he would have to have a massive character change.

I agree with aluminiumclock for the whole character change that would have to happen for Eragon to do that. Have any of you thought that Elva could be the next dragon rider?...apparently she was supposed to have a major role in the next book.

you do have a point, but in the end of Brisingr Elva says that she still felt people's pain, but she felt that she didn't need to shield them from the pain and that she could stand it. I still think that she is a possibility, but personally i want Arya to be the next dragon rider.

true she did say that but if she used to not be able to stand death i dont think she will be able to cause it even if she can sheild herself from it.

She could. She also might die in book 4.

I don't think that she will die. She doesn't want to help anyone.

Why couldn't she die? Sure it's unlikely, but it's possible.

What I meant was is that she wasn't friendly to anyone and it doesn't seem like she will help the Varden or anyone else unless she has to and I don't think she would sacrifice herself for anyone.

Elva never seemed at all forgotten to me, she was still being mentioned in different parts all the way through Brisingr. After Eragon fixed (part of) what he did to her his obligation to her was fulfilled, and she basically turned against him as a result (and everyone else for that matter) I highly doubt that she would have anything to do with Galbatorix considering all the suffering he causes. She mostly just seems highly uninterested in siding with anybody but herself.

She is likely to not become the next rider, and if she did the dragon would suffer the same pain as Elva whenever someone was hurt because of the bond the two would have. Unless they intended to keep their minds entirely seperate which would make for a poor partnership.

CP had a baby on a spear so that being said a 2-6 year old girl could easily be a target aswell, and she already defied Galbatorix by revealing the Black Hand group to Nasuada which I don't see him forgiving if he ever figures it out.

Elva still hangs around Angela and Nasuada by personal choice (so far as I can tell from the parts that mention her after the counterspell is in place) so its likely that she will continue to do so until she doesn't feel like it anymore. But because of the fact that she is traveling with the Varden she will be close to alot of meaningful events simply by those connections, so she could directly or indirectly influence them in some way (dispite the fact that she has to be put to sleep during big battles)

She might not have to be put to sleep anymore since it doesn't hurt her a lot anymore and I don't think she will be a rider. That would most likely not turn out good.

hmm from what I recall even after Eragon cast his counterspell on her Elva still had to be put to sleep during battle, because she can actually still feel all of the pain of the people around her she just isn't compelled by the initial spell to help them anymore (she"can ignore it without throwing up")

If she were to be awake during a large battle all of the death would drive her mad (I can imagine it being like Eragon connecting to the world around him when he drew power from the plants and small animals during his instruction in magick, the experence of dying over and over, but without the ability to break the contact and for a much longer time.)

During Eragons talk with Oromis it is confirmed that she still feels the pain of other people, but because it was her choice to continue doing so Eragons debt to her was repayed by all rights. Elva wanted to keep the ability because it gives her power and influence "I will never be a normal person, or would you take it from me by force? Galbatorix would approve." was a play on the pain Eragon feels over what he did to her.

She can feel what pains people and intends to use it against anyone who gets in the way of the things she wants (which is why Eragon and Saphira were going to force a counterspell to remove the rest of it on her regardless of her wishes at first)

You mean is? CP didn't just put them in there. They are there for a reason.

They could just be there for the sake of filler, yeah they have important fates, that fact is obvious.. But their names weren't even mentioned from what I recall, they got all of a few moments in the story and then were never talked about again..

Elva's fate however has always been Eragons greatest mistake however, she is vastly more important to the storyline and its likely that her fate will have a huge impact on everyone around her in the end (one way or another)

I highly doubt she will have a huge impact. An impact? Yes. A very important or significant one? No.

To an extent, but you underestimate the fact that given her new found sliver of freedom from Eragon's "blessing" she could technically choose to stab Nasuada in the back if she felt like it, and could then easily manipulate the vast majority of the Varden into a state of hopelessness
by playing on their fears and the things that pain them, I can see more than "oh I'm free I can make an ominous statement and unnerve a rider then just do nothing for the rest of the story" in Elva's future.

She has a terrifying ability, and depending on how its used it could very well sway things in the vardens favor, or if she decides on it she could demoralize the entire army person by person just by talking to them, though doing so would mean getting away from Angela.

for now it is but what about after the end of the war?

I wouldn't be able to comprehend why CP would suddenly drop Elva after three books, especially when he's built her character into being one of the main "supporting" characters already.

it would be like.. well say in the lord of the rings if the one ring was suddenly worthless in the end lol...
