The Birthing
OOC: This is for those who have been with Eriel and Keralin during their adventures together. Special note goes to Star Gazer, I-L-S and dracoaestas asking them to take part in this very special story with their characters.
Keralin and Aelir entered the birthing grounds of Du Weldenvarden where both Eriel and Emrhyst awaited him. Keralin had been awaiting this day for many months and it filled him with joy, fear, anticipation and a few other emotions that jumbled together creating a mixture of confusion and happiness. The trees here were tall and seemed to bend around to create a completely safe place, free of all evil, in which an Elf could give birth. I can't believe the day is finally here! Keralin said to Aelir. Nor can I. You are about to be a father and that is no small thing. Aelir said with exitement. Things are going to be different from now on... I am different. Keralin said breathing in the air. He looked at Aelir. Then again so are we all. It was then Keralin saw her and he saw how she had changed. Keralin only just smiled and ran to her side.

Re: The Birthing
OOC: =P I'm nervous xD
IC: Emrhyst let out a roar of joy and flew, somewhat slowly, to Keralin and Aelir. She was heavy in her pregnancy, although not quite at the birthing stage yet, unlike her rider who lay with her back straight under an emergent, its leaves sheltering her from direct sunlight. Eriel gently held up her hand to grasped Keralin's. Her grip had not weakened a lot during her pregnancy, but anticipation, happiness and a tinge of fear had done its job. Her abdomen was unsurprisingly, significantly larger than what it had been several months back when they were still away from Alagaesia. Her other features remained the same as always, save a few specific parts of course. Emrhyst dipped her head, lips in a toothy grin. The mother-to-be awaits you both. You would do best to hurry along Aelir. She said then embraced her mate, purring gently.

Re: The Birthing
Reb cantered Cobalt to the safe haven where her friends awaited. Star Gazer was coming also, but she was slowed by her children. Terranor was a terror at this current stage in his life, he was still young and learning.
Star Gazer floated in the air, taking a breather while Terranor flew in circles around her. " Stop that."She commanded then flew to her friends.
Reb dismounted and left Cobalt's reins trailing so he would feel safe, and then walked over to Eriel. "How does it feel to be an almost mother?" Reb asked as she smiled.
Zantya and Eu'am had left their dragons at the mountains and had rode here on their horses, and they also dismounted, tied their horses and made their way over to the nervous mother-to-be. "Hello Eriel." Zantya said smilling.

Re: The Birthing
Phalynx smiled as her glittering form rode over the forest on a warm thermal. She had sensed that one of her friends was about to give birth. Phal had known that Eriel was pregnant, and so had been awaiting this very day.
The young silver angled her wings and soared out of the thermal, coming in slowly and gently towards the assembling group. She opened her still rather oversize silver wings like parachutes, coming in to a soft and graceful landing.
Hello, everyone. I hope that I haven't missed anything important, she said cheerfully. Du evarinya ono varda, Phalynx said quietly to Eriel, using a phrase of well-wishing. She folded her legs beneath her and lay down on the soft, leaf-covered soil.

Re: The Birthing
Faefnir and Navarre swifly followed Star gazer and Teranor to the hatching grounds of Du Weldenvarden. Being almost close to family with Emrhyst, it was their obligation to accompany their mate and twin brother (respectively) to the first birthing of their young friend. With Aelir being the father, he was a member of the royal family as well. Faefnir was surprised that there wasn't a Twilight Sister for him, but the golden dragon felt that that mystery would clear itself up with time. He landed behind Star gazer smoothly, while Navarre landed strangely and had to skip a step to regain her balance. Not bad, young one. Just remember that it's easier to land on your hind legs first before your front. Navarre sighed. Yes, father. I know. Faefnir chuckled, then went up to his mates side. After hugging her in the dragon fashion, they proceeded toward the hatching grounds, where they found Zantya, Reb, the egg-heavy Emrhyst, Eriel, and Faefnir's sister Phalynx. Faefnir also noticed Keralin and Aelir. Then he embraced Phalynx. It's good to see you again, sister.

Re: The Birthing
OOC: As much as I want to say "It's not too hard", I know what you mean. Also, check the archive sectionfor: Time is Wasting, Time is Gone.
Keralin grasped Eriel's hand, feeling the grip that she was exerting he held her hand with both of his hands. His face revealed nothing but joy, his hand holding Eriel's firmly and his eyes shed a few tears. "How are you doing?" He asked. He didn't have time to get an answer though as the rest of his new family joined them. "Thank you all for coming." He said to them. "I'm relieved that you all could make it here today." He pressure on his hand made him look back at Eriel. "You're doing fine."
Aelir embraced Emrhyst as well, glad to see her. It may sound corny, but I think that she can wait for a few moments. I do love you and I want to spend some time with you. He stayed with his head wrapped around Emrhyst's.

Re: The Birthing
Emrhyst smiled at him. And I you. She said with licked his face, her eyes widening in humor as she tasted blood. I see you had quite a meal before you came. Emrhyst laughed.
Eriel grinned at Keralin. "Yes I am doing fine." She said soft enough for him to hear. Within her eyes was a spark, a glowing amber, an inferno of joy. "And I also see you enjoy it when I'm in such a helpless state." Eriel mused humorously, her eyes widening as she saw Reb and Zantya. "How does it feel eh?" Eriel laughed. "It feels as if I have a bundle of joy within me just waiting to find its way out." Eriel smiled at Phal. The same to you too.She said in the Ancient Language{Sorry, didn't bother to check the book lol} She glanced through them then stopped. "Zantya? I thought you were dead!" Eriel exclaimed, her eyes changing from mint green to pure white.

Re: The Birthing
Zantya smiled down at Eriel. " Yes I did, but Eu'am brought me back, and now we are married, and I'm happy to say being the way I am is much improved to the way I was. Although I do miss the no ageing rule. But sadly I left Reb with that trait." Zantya said and then wrapped her arms around Eu'am's middle since that was all she could reach being as short as she was-By the way she is a full foot or so shorter than he is. Reb also got the height.-.
Star Gazer smiled at Faefnir and then turned to her daughter. " Darling, don't listen to your father, you can land on either the back or the front legs, it just takes measured contol to do it. I shall show you if you wish me too." Star Gazer said and nudged her daughter.
"Hello father. I missed you. Mother has been to in motion for me. She never rests. How do you put up with her?" Terranor asked jokingly as he landed akwardly beside his family. He hadn't mastered the landing yet either.

Re: The Birthing
Phal smiled contentedly. The same to you, brother, she said, returning Faefnir's embrace. She watched her niece, nephew, and their parents with amusement. Phalynx turned back to watch the clearing where Eriel, Keralin, and their dragons stood. Phal was extremely happy at this moment, for she was surrounded by her family.
Phal decided to make one last check of their surroundings with her different visions. She had checked before landing, of course, but thought it would be important to make sure everything was clear. Seeing nothing out of the ordinary, she switched back to normal vision. I've checked and double-checked everything with my different visions, everyone, and it all looks perfectly clear, she relayed back to the others, hoping to fully instill their peace of mind.

Re: The Birthing
Faefnir chuckled at his son. Teranor, she is impossible to deal with. But, the thing you must understand about love is that opposites attract. Your mother brings out the best in me, and I'm sure I do the same for her--that is the true reason we have been together for so long, and the true reason why both of you are here now, my children. Then he directed the rest of his talk at Star gazer. I could never wish for a more powerful, more beautiful, more wise dragoness to be my mate. She makes me whole.
Really, mother? But, almost all the dragons I have met seem to tend to land on their hind legs. Is it just easier to direct your weight backwards instead of forward?

Re: The Birthing
"Thank you Phalynx, although I doubt that there is anything that has evil intentions can pass through the barriers put around this place." Keralin said unconcerned. "This is one of the only places in Du Weldenvarden in which the magic is fuelled from the entirety of the Elven race." Keralin said with pride.
I ate very little actually. I thought you knew me. Aelir said giving a fake impression of being offended. It was hard for me to eat knowing what was coming. Besides, I was looking for a place where we can look after our young one while our riders care for theirs. He said with sincerity.

Re: The Birthing
Emrhyst smiled, she was touched by his words. Hope fully we'd do that soon. I was thinking of the lower peaks of the Beor mountains, we won't need to share our eggs with the elves then. She laughed.
Eriel smiled at the almost bear-sized man and her friend. "I'm happy for you two. I wonder when the kids will come though?" Eriel said with a visible grin.

Re: The Birthing
Star Gazer gave Faefnir a grin to let him know that he completed her also, and without him she would be no where, then turned to her daughter.
" A quick lesson." Star Gazer said then shot into the sky and then dove straight down.
She flapped her wings to create a back draft that slowed her fall, then extended her front legs and landed in a graceful walk, turned around and smiled. " Not so hard, but I would wait until your flying had developed fully before you tried it darling." Star Gazer advised. Then directed her thoughts to Faefnir. " I wouldn't rather have another strong, silent warrior for the love of my life and my other half." Star answered.
Terranor laughed and then settled down on the ground and watched his family.
"I would love children but with as much as me and Eu'am move around, it's not likely for awhile. Besides I still have a whole mortal life before me. I can't wait to travel across Alagaesia with Eu'am. His line of work takes him everywhere." Zantya replied.

Re: The Birthing
Phalynx glanced at Keralin. I was just making sure. You can never be too careful, she said to him. She looked back at Star Gazer, Faefnir, and their children. When Star made the elegant forward landing she laughed. Hey, I've been known to make a few... interesting landings myself and succeed. As long as you end up on your feet you can land any way you want, Phal said, smiling. She distinctly remembered several rolling landings she had made, and even some landings on both legs on one side. Phal laughed quietly to herself at the thought.
Phalynx continued to watch the purple and gold dragons. She felt a small pang of longing when she saw Star and Faefnir standing together and when she looked back to see Aelir and Emrhyst together. Phal knew it would probably be quite some time before she found a mate, though, so she cleared her head of such thoughts and turned her attention back to the expectant mother.

Re: The Birthing
Wow, mother. That is quite impressive. I hope my wings develop soon so I can practice that. I can already think of several uses for that style of landing. Then the purple, gold-spotted youngling lost herself in a train of thought.[/i]
Faefnir felt the pang of desire and solemnity coming from his sister. He nudged Star gazer to tell her he would be back soon, then went toward Phalynx. Come with me, my sister. We have a lot to talk about. Then Faefnir led her away from the hatching ground into the forest, although not too far from the group. Phalynx, you must understand that not everybody is meant for love, especially in these dark and dangerous times. Half the dragons of the Mountain have given up a search for a mate, and let me tell you, it's only because there are so few of us. I am sure, however, that you know there are others somewhere for you to love and cherish for all your long days. Be not lustful or jealous, for those things will surely lead to you to unhappiness. Rejoice for the few who have the ability to love. It is they who will surely reach my father's palace in the great beyond. Then he paused to let his words sink in. Also keep in mind that these things normally happen completely on accident. When I first met Star gazer as a hatchling, I had no interest in her whatsoever. But our adventures together have made me admire her strength and intelligence, and with time made me love her. Our mother and father were the same way. When I was still in the warmth of her womb, our father saved her from impending doom, a story I am sure you have heard already. It is that that made her fall in love, and in the end, come out with you. Then he sighed. If only they were here today. You would have loved them just as much as I had. They were very noble dragons.

Re: The Birthing
Keralin watched the rest, happy that for once in their lives they were together and not fighting some great evil. My friends. He thought. No, My family.
Simply a place where our young one can fly without hurting himself too much if he falls. Aelir said.
I hope we're not too late. Aeraldi fervently pleaded. The fact that I was invited means that we are trusted. I don't see why you care so much, it's simply another weakling being brought into the world. Not just that, it's the fact that it's another life that has been living inside another. I feel that this is important for us as well. Besides, I want to give the child a small gift. What could you possibly give an elven child? Hope. He said. He flew harder, the forests of Du Weldenvarden appearing below him.

Eriel looked up as she heard the wing beats of Aeraldi, smiling in joy.

Re: The Birthing
Phalynx nodded solemnly at her brother's speech. I understand, Faefnir. I know that I may or may not find someone special, and that if I do, it will certainly come as a pleasant surprise. It was just... I just wanted to know what that kind of companionship was like, for a moment, Phal said. She sighed. I know what you say is true, and I knew most of that before. I wish I could control my emotions, but I can't... so I can't help but feel some longing, she said. Phalynx knew that she was trying to make sense of this to herself as much as to Faefnir, but it was still a confusing subject for the young dragon.
Phal suddenly noticed a newcomer, Aeraldi, approaching.

Re: The Birthing
Faefnir took his sister's face in his hands and made her focus on him. Pay attention. You can't simply control emotions like that. As a matter of fact, I discourage it. Emotions, however clouded they make your judgement sometimes, only make you stronger. A dragon who doesn't feel emotion is not a dragon at all--it is the emotion that makes us who we are, that make us make the decisions we make. I understand that you are very young still, a mere fledgling, so you cannot understand yet the strength of love, happiness... and anger. Take this lesson from today, little one. Emotion is a blessing, but if it takes over completely... it is a curse. Faefnir remembered the time when Rimfax was still imprisoned within him, and his rare outbursts of anger that brought him out. Just remember that. You are not weak if you long for someone to hold. His eyes lingered back to Star gazer briefly, and then focused on his only friend, however dysfuctional their relationship may be, from the Ancient World, Aeraldi. You'll find someone eventually, little one. Don't lose hope Then he smiled wolfishly at her and wrapped his neck around hers.

Keralin looked at Aeralid as he landed. "Glad you could make it." He said cheerfully. I hoped I wasn't too late, it was hard convincing my other side to come. "Well I'll tell you that any misbehaving here will throw you out quicker than you could roar." Yes, I felt the magic when I entered. He looked at Eriel, then at Emrhyst. I can feel the magic from them already. He said to his other side. So can I, their power will be great.

Re: The Birthing
OOC: Ok then.
IC: Eriel smiled and shut her eyes, concentrating on fanning the wards around them, now that she could feel the child's energy peaking, she wasn't going to take a chance. She knew that Galbatorix probably knew about her pregnancy, but she also knew that he would never be able to enter the grounds upon which her friends stood, not if he would risk losing his soul to the wards and his body to every one of her friends around her, or so she hoped.
Emrhyst nudged Aelir gently. So.. what d'you think of my suggestion?

Re: The Birthing
Star Gazer smiled at Faefnir and walked over to Emhyrst and smiled. "Don't worry about your young rider. She will be fine. Reb is here to help." Star Gazer prummed.
"Reb sat beside Eriel. Are you nervous?" She asked smilling, trying to be comforting but failing miserably. " I do know some healing arts if that helps at all to eleviate your worry." Reb reassured.

Re: The Birthing
Phalynx returned Faefnir's embrace wordlessly. She eventually broke away and turned back towards the others, lost in thought. She hoped Faefnir would understand her silence; he probably would. For now, Phal had quite a bit to think about. She thought on what Faefnir had said, and knew that she never wanted to get rid of her emotions. In fact, the thought of that brought up a months old memory. Phal was suddenly comforted as she recalled another conversation, and she returned in a lighter mood.
Phalynx sat down not far from Eriel, ready to lend her support.

Re: The Birthing
Faefnir nodded his head, understanding fully his sister's silence. He slowly followed her back to the clearing and felt the beginnings of the birthing process. He settled behind Eriel and allowed his immense, golden wings to encircle his friends and allow them a bit of privacy should someone accidentally stumble on them. He steadily prummed an old dragon song that gained in volume and intensity as time continued.

Re: The Birthing
OOC: I know. This post was really hard to type, I couldn't really think of much.
Keralin sat with Eriel for the entire time and held her hand. When it was all done Keralin held the child within his hands and felt the child's breathing as it cried it's voice to the world. He kneeled next to Eriel and held the child, showing her the child. "Isn't he beautiful?" He said. Aelir leaned closer and watched the child with one eye, even though he had no hand in it, he knew that this was his child as well.
Aeraldi didn't want to crowd around but he did use his eye to look closer at the child. Our mother did the same for us. And yet, I feel strange. So do I. It's a feeling you can't describe. Both sides of Aeraldi watched the child and said nothing.

Re: The Birthing
OOC: Yay! Star's back! IC: Phalynx waited silently. Finally, she saw the new life enter the world. She heard the high-pitched cry of the new-born, and caught a scent that could only be described as "newness". Phal smiled and snaked her head forward eagerly to get a closer look. He is a beautiful child. Elf children contain a great deal of power, do they not? For I can certainly sense it in him, Phal said softly. As she spoke, she only let the child feel the barest hint of her consciousness, not sure yet how he would react to a dragon his parents weren't bonded with.

Re: The Birthing
Faefnir bugled a welcome to the night sky as he felt new life enter a turbulent world. He barely caught a glimpse of the red Star of Auron, the were-falcon that lost his life to the Shade Leth on the very day he awoke, and Faefnir couldn't help but feel a sense of nostalgia and loss. But then his eyes fixated on the newborn. As he opened his wings and placed one around Star like a shroud, he arched his neck and brought his snout close to the newborn, his blue eyes trying to calm the baby. Then he spoke directly to the child Welcome to Alagaesia, little one. You have my blessing, and I grant you a long and happy life. Then he brushed his snout against the child's head. Eriel, he is majestic. And I think his name is Hayren, unless my vision lies to me.

Re: The Birthing
OOC:Ok...
IC: Eriel smiled. "Yes, his name is Hayren, and he looks elated to see, or rather, feel you Phal." The child smiled and turned his head between Faefnir and Phal repeatedly.
Emrhyst gently nudged Faefnir. It won't do you any good thinking of the fallen on a day of birth would it? If I was any more superstitious I would have said you were giving us bad luck. Emrhyst laughed.

Re: The Birthing
Keralin was beyond words at this point, the child slowly looking at the separate dragons. As much as he wanted the child to look at him he knew he shouldn't be so selfish, he held the child's hand within his own and the child held his. He knew that the child, Hayren, noticed him.
Aelir craned his neck over Phalynx and looked at the child himself, interested. The child looked to fragile to him, so defenceless. He said to his rider, I promise to defend him as I can. He is my child as well. Feelings of gratitude from Keralin washed over Aelir as he said those words. And when you and Emrhyst have yours, I swear to do the same.
Do you think that we were that squishy when we were hatched? Aeraldi wondered. No, we were perfect then. Everyone else feared us. Aeraldi answered with force. Seems like a dream now. He continued. I barely remember it, it was so many ages ago. So many civilisations came and fell. He shook his head. Bah, it helps not to dwell upon the past and things that cannot change. We are here to bring the new child into a world fraught with danger, I just hope he doesn't see it too soon. I can agree to that.

Re: The Birthing
Star Gazer stretched out her neck until the very tip of her snout touched above his heart. She felt power rushing through her. She wanted to make a gift for this child, the child of her rider's best friend, one had stuck through it all with them through better of worse. A true friend. Suddenly she knew what gift she would give.
Backing up, she lifted her snout to the sky and let loose a beautiful, cheerful cry, a sound that would make humans cry, and dragons return the cry.
When she finished, she walked over to the baby and touched him, a white light shot from the sky and slammed into her, and illuminated her.
Out of the forrest emerged Shedo, carring a red furred wolf pup in her jaw, and she trotted over to Star and dropped the pup then went and sat beside Reb.
"I give you Thorn. A companion forever to your child." She said then touched the pup, the white light consuming him also. The bond was formed.
OOC: If you don't like this I can edit it Eriel.

Re: The Birthing
Phal simply stood, gazing with wonder and happiness at the tiny new creature. She couldn't stop the smile from forming on her long face as she inhaled the scent of the newborn. Phal glanced happily at Eriel when she said Hayren was happy to feel Phal's mind brush his. She decided to envelop the child briefly in her consciousness, just enough to let him get familiar with her. Then she would withdraw her mind so that his parents and their dragons could bond further.
Phal lit her eyes with a warm golden light, bathing Hayren in it. She opened up her mind to him. To Hayren, it must have felt like an explosion of silvery stars suddenly illuminated in his mind. Phal swept her consciousness briefly and gently through Hayren's young mind before withdrawing. Hopefully he would always know in the future that she would watch out for him, and that she was a friend, after this "meeting".
Phal smiled and backed away to give the others more room. She heard Star's cry and answered it joyfully. She laughed warmly when she saw the gift that the deep purple dragoness gave Hayren.

Re: The Birthing
Faefnir joined in the call of his mate, roaring with her almost simultaneously, his majestic baritone mixing intricately with her powerful yet delicate soprano. After the pup-of-fire, Thorn, was bonded to the child, Faefnir brought his snout close to the hatchling-of-pointed-ears-two-legs face. Young Hayren, I may not offer pups of eternity, or promises of eternal friendship, but I do offer this: Your life will be trying, and the trials difficult. But, with the gifts of the dragons, forever will you be triumphant. I give to you our strength, our wisdom, and our long years, young child of the elves. Then Faefnir touched his snout to the child's forehead, passing to the child the wisdom and strength of the ages. May you live forever, little one, and remember that you will always have help. Then Faefnir looked at one of the trees and did a dragon form of a whistle. One of the branches hollowed out and turned into a horn, then floated to Faefnir. The golden dragon placed it on the child's lap. I bind myself and the rest of the Royal Family to this horn. Wherever it is blown, we will come. Keep it close, little one. Faefnir impressed these last words on the infants memory so he will remember it forever. Then he drew back and draped a wing around Star gazer.

Re: The Birthing
Keralin looked at each dragon and each person that had come to their child's birth in turn. These are my family, He thought, and I will protect them. He looked at Hayren. "My son, I give you what none other can." He stretched his hand over Hayren's forehead and invoked his own magic, "I promise that no evil will ever spawn within you. You may be mislead, but you will never willingly do any evil." The spell wasn't long but it did require some dark magic, a small sacrifice of Keralin's essence. His small toe was enough and it wouldn't set off the wards encompassing the birthing area. It felt strange not being able to feel his small toe but he knew that his soul would grow back and he would be able to feel it again within a month.
Aelir felt the drain of the spell from Keralin and he knew that he would do the same for his own child when it hatched. Until then, I have that young one to look out for. He rubbed his head against Emrhyst's neck.

Re: The Birthing
Eriel struggled to stop crying tears of joy. Letting out a wry smile, she said, "You guys have really given him so much more than he deserves." Hayren brought his hand up then down as if in protest. Eriel raised an eyebrow and got up with Hayren in her arms. "And now my child, I give to you my gift..." Eriel whispered tenderly, her lips barely touching his left ear. A spark of lightning traveled from Eriel's lips to Hayren's eyes faster than any eye but theirs could follow. The child smiled at his mother and turned his cheek towards her. Eriel blushed gently.
Emrhyst rubbed her cheek against Aelir's head then stopped as Eriel sent very powerful emotions to her, she could almost feel her embarrassment as if it were her own. The dragoness snorted humorously.

Re: The Birthing
Reb smiled down at the couple and then whispered her own silent gift. "When have need just call, when you think you have lost it all, just call. I will be with you in spirit in heart for all your time. I will keep you safe for your mother, and will be with you in all your troubled times when you call. Just say this, 'Come through darkness through light, come through the fire of fight. Come to me I have need of a blade, come to me shade.' And I will come to you imediately, I also give you extensive knowledge of fire and light. Use it wisely." Reb said then closed her eyes and felt the drain as her speech took effect.

Re: The Birthing
Phal gazed around at the others, watching them give their gifts to the tiny child of pointed-ears-two-legs. What gift did she have to give? Phal thought, wondering what she could offer Hayren. Finally, she thought of something. It wouldn't be very marvelous or grand, but she did know that it could be very useful.
I shall also give you a gift, Hayren. It may help you in times of need, or just when you're missing something. I can give you a little of my power, Hayren. Just give me a moment... she said warmly, stepping forwards.
Phal concentrated. Her eyes were lit with gold again, and her whole body glowed silver, as if she were a burning star. The light suddenly narrowed and focused in a point in the air. Suddenly, the light seemed to solidify, forming the shape of a beautiful star-shaped, perfectly clear crystal.
Phal moved ahead, slightly exhausted from her effort, and plucked the crystal from the air. The light had faded from her. She handed it to Eriel.
Give this to him when he's old enough to not lose it somewhere, Eriel, she said. I'll tell you and him what it does. When something hidden is nearby, something that cannot normally be seen, this crystal will glow with starlight. Also, Hayren can look through it to see what is hidden from him. And it only works when you want it to, so that it won't start glowing suddenly when you're trying to hide. I hope it will prove useful, she said, smiling. Her gift was small, but the magic she used left Phalynx drained. She backed away and lay down for a moment of rest.
