i agree with legacy becuase the whole series, you could argue the point that it is about eragon taking on the legacy of the dragon riders

He probably hasn't come up with the name yet. From what he said about Brisingr it sounded like he picked the name pretty late on. Wish he had stuck to the 'e' thing. Then it could be Eragon, Eldest, Eldunari, and Empire.

in school, when ever i write a story, i dont make up a name until the very end... because i make it up as i go... it might be the same for him...

Yes, but sooner or later we'll have discussed all the ideas and not be able to come up with new ones. That's what I'm worried about. If the title of book 4 came out however, that would lead to a whole other are of discussion.

Well, each book has been named about the main theme of the book. C.P. did this in one word, thus the one word at the title of book four should reflect the main themes of the book.
Eragon was about a lowly farm boy (eragon) rising up to become a dragon rider like his namesake. It introduces the legend of the dragon riders, and puts eragon (like the first one) in the middle of a war that would destroy everything. In short in introduces the legend of the first Eragon and begins the legend of the second Eragon. Thus the title Eragon.
Eldest is as we know about the elves primarily. They are one of the eldest races. We learn more about the legend of the dragons (the eldest race) and here more about the legend of the first eragon (who is also the eldest rider). The book also insinuates that after a while Saphira will be the eldest of her race. At the end we find out that murtagh is the eldest son of eragon's mother (who's name escapes me).
Brisingr was of course about eragon's sword brisingr, but also about remembering his journey up to that point. It could also be part of his true name, and is a recurring theme in all three books.
Eragon opened the series, Eldest introduced a lot of key points, Brisingr expanded on points and got us to consider the entire journey, thus the final books title should reflect the end.
It could be reborn because Galby will be gone and Alagaisia will be reborn. Eragon over the course of the story will find that he has changed as a person. He has been reborn. Murtagh will be free from Galby's clutches (and will then probably die) being reborn. The races will be reunited and their old state of peace will be reborn. And most importantly, the dragon race will most likely be reborn.

It may be a flimsy argument but it works for me.

Notice the key word in my sentence. That key word is part. I never said it would be his true name, I said it could be part of his true name.

Eragon - began in 1998, published in 2002. Four years.
Eldest - began in 2002, published in 2005. Three years.
Brisingr - began in 2005, published in 2008. Three years.

Even if he becomes faster as a writer, keep in mind that this probably will be the longest book. Expect it in late 2011. Patience is a virtue. No?

@the librarian: You must remember that Brisingr and book four were split because he thought that brisingr would be too long of a book. This could be telling us that he had some of book four written before the split was made. Because of this I'm hoping early to middle 2011.
Also, releasing the title of the fourth book 3 years after the first one came out doesn't seem a good idea. That's all that I'm saying.

It never was split even if he used that word. He wasn't even finished with the book we now know as Brisingr. He noticed that the book would be to long. He hadn't started to write on the fourth book when he said it.
I will see if I can find the interview tho.

either way, there is probably a reason behind why the book is taking so long.

1, it could be that he hasn't yet come up with a good ending or something.
2, it could be that the publishers are having troubles with the last book.
3, it could be that something is hindering the process of the book
4, it could be that he's just not yet done with it.

anyway, no matter what you think, you will never know why the book is not yet coming out, unless he directly tells people the reason for the delay.

it shouldn't be the first one because i know for a fact that a good author decides the ending first or else he'll go on, an on, and on..... actually, that might be right!

The first one is probably the case. Usually, a writer will model a character after someone they know, consciously or subconsciously. I doubt it's the last one, all though that could be possible depending on the kind of love you're referring to.
