LOTR will remain a classic forever. Has anyone here read the hobbit, the silmarillion, morgoth's ring?

adult books are good to read as well... only they contain more dialogue and use more expression which is nice... novels at times move too fast to cater for impatience

yes you would... it's called reading... when you read you use words to describe events. and good authors use more words to describe events. you will always end up at the end of the story :!:

yes, but many people like it when they drag it on. thats why when i RP, i blend it together, not just skip events. what CP did was like saying,"Hey look, its Murtagh!*Awsome battle noises* darn i lost, oh well!"

description is not boring, and it is easy to know how much to put - a good author would easily be able to see how much would be needed. Different authors put in different amounts of description and action to suit the particular age group the book is catering for. Children are generally seen as losing attention faster than adults which is why novels designed for younger readers have faster-moving events and are usually shorter than adults' books. everybody has different tastes so I guess it's wrong to gauge how much is 'correct'... it's all relative

depends on the reader and the author... if the floor is of importance to the development of the plot it may not be... but in usual circumstances it would sound silly, I agree. I guess I'm not so much against lack of description but too many events coming through at once...

well its obvious nobody would do that - I could just go to the other extreme as well... would you like eragon if christopher paolini finished the book in five pages, describing the characters with a word each and finishing the battle of farthern dur with 'eragon fought the battle, got separated with saphira, ended up fighting with durza, and managed to stab him through the heart, winning the battle and making himself a hero'? no book goes through an event of importance that quickly, so it's useless to try and create improbable situations like describing a floor down to an atom (figurative)

well CP don't have to go down to every detail, let the reader have a little more imagnation!

No, he doesn't have to go down into every detail! But it is up to his own discretion as to how much description will best suit the book. Whatever he says, no matter how well or badly described, will be imagined differently by the reader...

In some stories, description is good. It lets you see just how the author wants you to, however when there is little description, it allows you to imagine it just how you want to. The only down-side of that, is if a movie is made, nothing looks like how you imagined it! :)

that is true to a certain extent, but for most books, the most detailed descriptions do not in any way 'restrict' the reader's imagination in any way at all. By describing more, the book gives you more to imagine, if anything. I doubt anybody would be able to find a scene in which description can make all readers imagine it the same way.

caterpillar! Aragorn is a child compared to Legolas! Aragorn is only 87 and legolas is 2,756 years old. Plus im not into girly looking guys, if i had to choose i would choose Aragorn. Did you know that Aragorn is half elf and half human?

....And a real elf is better!!!!

ok, now we can talk about something else... Different from "is better Aragon or Legolas?" !!!!!

heh, faramir is insane, following his fathers mad raging wacko battle plan to send him to die! aragorn is not half elf, he is completely and totally heir to the gondor throne and is not elf then becuase he would not be complete heir to gondor throne. and orlando bloom is awesome, he got to do his own stunts! (awesome as in cool, i am boy)

Sometimes you can see that he was doing it on his own like when Gimli Aragorn and Legolas return on ships to Minis Thirit (or Osgiliath if you want) and they jumping out of ship.

One of my fav characters in LOTR is Gandalf, but my firends tease me because in real life Ian Mcellen is gay. They call him{instead of gray} Gandalf the Gay :( they are so mean to me.

Frodo would be the most useless guy if he wasn't the ringbearer. what other people would have been able to bear the ring?

Really no one. Frodo was the only one that dared carry the ring, Sam only took after in memory of Frodo so that the quest wouldn't be in vain.

when frodo and sam climb up mount doom, in my mind I can see them acting in the studio, lying on flat ground and pretending to crawl up an incline. next time you all see a movie where a guy tries to crawl up a mountain, try to imagine that lol.

they could use babies covered with filth, and dressed like frodo and sam, they could crawl better.

Gimli is awesome. I thought it was cool how at the end of the movies him and Legolas became friends.

I like the part of the first movie when they are all in the counsel of Elrond, and Merry and Pippin come out and say Pippin: "Besides you need people of intelligence on this sort of mission.......Quest.....Thing."
Merry: "Well, that rules you out, Pip."

I laughed so hard!!
