Crossroads of Fate
OOC: Just for me, DS4, Astral, and draco for now. Maybe later, yeah? IC: Suvana pulled the arrow back to the corner of her mouth. Her left eye was closed while the other was intently focused on what could hopefully be tonight's dinner. A group of rabbits were gathered together, and Suvana had to act fast for they usually didn't stay in once place for long. Her gaze was unfaltering, and she released the arrow. However, as she did this, the flapping of massive wings spooked the rabbits, and they quickly darted away to a new location.
"Damn it!" Suvana cursed out loud and focused her gaze on a large white dragon that hovered above the large trees surrounding Suvana.
Oops Freed muttered.
"Oops? You just got me tonight's dinner with your infuriating impatience!" Suvana accused. She was angry enough to where she was yelling mentally and physically.
Freed looked offended. Impatience? Now who's to say that I didn't do that on purpose? He retorted, but quickly realized that it was the wrong thing to say when his Rider shot a beam of energy at him. He narrowly avoided it and landed outside of the forest.
Suvana walked out of the forest and brushed the dirt off of her leggings and shirt. "I got dirty for nothing," Suvana muttered to her sarcastic dragon.
I'll bring back something when I hunt? Freed suggested as a solution.
"It had better be good," She murmured. Her ears perked as she heard a noise, but she quickly dismissed it. She had set up Runes around the camp that would hold whatever trespassed inside with ill will in place. Her eyes ran over the scrolls tucked inside of Freed's saddlebags. She had recently stolen them from the library in Dras-Leona for the Varden. They were supposedly very important, so she had taken pride in herself for taking them. However, if the scrolls were so important enough, the might attract the attention of Galbatorix... Lakris walked through one of the many corridors inside the King's castle. The floor and walls were made of a stone impervious to magic and physical damage for the most part. A grand rug traversed the floor of this corridor, clearly of expensive make due to the intricate designs that lined it thoroughly. Classy torches were placed every few yards on the walls, lighting up the corridor.
He was currently visiting the barracks where his dragon was located. He was recently informed of a thief infiltrating Dras-Leona's library and stealing a valuable scroll, containing the routes that one could use to enter and exit Dras-Leona secretly. Some of the secret entrances were so large that several extremely large dragons could stand side-by-side, and an army consisting of a hundred thousand soldiers long enough could fit in the tunnels. There were very few that had read the scrolls, and because of how important they were, their reading to any rank under general was forbidden. Galbatorix had told Lakris to receive the scrolls no matter the cost. Someone else would be coming with him, but Lakris had yet to meet him or her.

Re: Crossroads of Fate
OOC: lol guess you got this posted tonight anyway. This should be fun. IC: Kalo padded noiselessly through the passage, the scent of dragon reaching his nostrils. Lakris and Sylverta might be older than he, but they were newer recruits and Galbatorix wanted him to accompany them on their mission. The dragon had been in training for all thirty-two years of his life to become the King's assassin, and he would see to it that those three decades were not in vain. This mission should be easy: catch a scroll-thief, kill said thief, and retrieve the scrolls with no damage to them.
The pale bronze-striped-with-pale silver dragon entered the place where Sylverta was resting, his red scales glinting in the low light. Kalo could smell the rider approaching as well. When Lakris drew near enough, he made mental contact with them both and stepped from the shadows at the edge of the room. I am the one the King has sent to accompany you on your mission, he announced in a calm voice, icy indigo eyes glancing between the two. I am Kalo, assassin of the Empire, and I'm to make sure you don't fail, he continued, the barest hint of a smile appearing at the corner of his mouth.Ecco stepped lightly through the forest, curious about the newcomers. She had been a few miles away when she saw the dragon, with a rider upon his back, come into view and and near the trees. She paused on a small, wooded hillside above the rider. The dragon was absent, at least for now. Should she make her presence known, in case this was a friend? They could be working for Galbatorix or another evil entity, but Ecco was friendly by nature and hoped for the best. If this was a potential friend, they would most likely be put at least a little at ease by her elf form. Most elves were against the mad king, or at least most that the shapeshifter knew of. She paced forward cautiously, stopping when her arm brushed against a branch rather too loudly. So preoccupied was she in debating whether or not to reveal herself, nature had done so for her. She breathed a quick laugh at herself and made her decision.
"Greetings, rider. I don't mean to startle you, but I am a friend to all those who oppose Galbatorix and other such evils, and I became curious when I saw your dragon flying," she called strongly, repeating herself in the Ancient Language to affirm her truth and waiting to see the woman's reaction. She looked older than Ecco, and so was probably more experienced. The shapeshifter held expectantly still among the trees.

Re: Crossroads of Fate
OOC: *is wondering if this should be before the Allatik War or after* *decides on before*
IC: Sarai padded along the ground briskly, a method of travel that she preferred, even though she was a dragon and could fly perfectly well. She had been hatched blind, so even though she could fly just fine, she liked feeling something beneath her paws. She stopped a moment and held still. Speaking of feeling something...She perked up and changed direction. She felt a twoleg, a dragon, and another twoleg close by. She made her footsteps heavy so they would hear her, since she had a habit of coming in silently. Her black-lined-with-gold scales glittered in the sunlight, and she paused when she caught a draconic scent, as well as both twolegs. It seemed like she was somewhere between the two twolegs. She headed toward the one with the dragon, eager to meet another of her kin. In her eagerness she forgot to Sense where she was walking, and stepped on a large thorn. She cursed loudly in the Draconic Tongue even as she hopped around on three legs. Ow ow ow ow! she yelped, unable to help herself. But dang this thorn was big, and it hurt. She stopped hopping around and held still to look at her injured paw. She scowled at the offending thorn like only a hatchling could. Ooww. she complained again. She limped forward until she was in sight of both twolegs, then stopped. She held up her paw and made a whining like sound. Could one of you please pull this out of my paw? she asked quietly. She couldn't bend her small neck or twist her paw around enough to get at it with her teeth and pull it out herself.

Re: Crossroads of Fate
OOC: Yeah, before is fine. IC: Lakris entered the barracks where his dragon was located, and he briefly sensed another consciousness. His eyes flickered over to the edge of the room. The one known as Kalo walked out of the shadows and explained the reason for his presence. Lakris nodded, not taking his eyes off of the dragon. He wasn't quick to trust anyone. In fact, many would say that he has yet to trust someone other than his own dragon. However, he had heard of Kalo, about how the dragon was loyal to Galbatorix. If Galbatorix indeed had assigned Kalo to this mission, then it was unlikely that Kalo would be a burden in the least. A ghost of a smile appeared on Lakris' face, "It's good to have you Kalo. I am Lakris."
Sylverta's eyes opened slowly, and they slowly darted from both Kalo to Lakris. Not trusting the dragon at first, Sylverta had pretended to stay asleep in case Kalo tried anything. Now that everyone had acquainted themselves, Sylverta used his powerful hind legs to push himself up. Pleased to have your assistance, Kalo. I am Sylverta. Are you prepared to depart? Sylverta questioned. Suvana glanced at the newcomer, her expression betraying nothing of her emotions. Suvana carefully thought over Ecco's words, looking for any potential half-truths. Ecco was seemingly an Elf, so Suvana's first instinct was to trust her, but Suvana was all too familiar with Elves joining Galbatorix. Deciding to trust Ecco, Suvana smiled. "I am pleased to meet you, Ecco. My name is Suvana, and I too oppose Galbatorix and others evils," Suvana replied in the Ancient Language. She glanced to where she heard someone else approaching, but then the footsteps stopped, only to be replaced by occasional stomps. Soon, a small dragon limped towards Suvana and Ecco. A surprisingly long thorn lay protruding from one of her paws, and Suvana felt the need to laugh uncontrollably and graciously help the dragon at the same time. She fought against the urge of the former and settled on the latter. She placed a hand on the thorn. "Pulling it out is probably going to sting for a moment," Suvana warned. She waited a few moments before tugging at the thorn, pulling it out on the first go.
Suvana glanced at the long thorn in her hand, wincing at the pain the dragon must have felt. She returned her gaze to the dragon and smiled. "I'm Suvana. It's always a pleasure to meet more dragons after the Fall," Suvana murmured.

Re: Crossroads of Fate
Kalo gave a slow nod, glancing between the pair. He caught the mistrust in their voices, and understood it. He wasn't sure if they were naturally wary (they seemed that way) but being new recruits would only add to that. They didn't know many of their new allies yet. Kalo didn't completely trust them yet either, but he hoped they would at least grow comfortable working together. That always made the job easier. Pleased to meet you. And certainly I am ready. I make it a habit to be prepared for anything, he replied, shuffling his wings and waiting for the two to lead off. He wasn't to lead this mission; only supervise and aide in the actual job once they caught the thieves. If there was one thing Kalo was good at, it was killing.
Ecco smiled at Suvana, glad that she had decided to greet her as a friend. Before she could speak any further, a small, young dragon limped towards them, a large thorn protruding from one paw. Ecco winced in empathy, imagining her own dragon foot stabbed with such a thing. Suvana reached the young one first and pulled out the thorn. Ecco joined them as Suvana greeted the young dragoness, and smiled, her deep blue eyes bright. I am quite agreed with Suvana; it is wonderful to meet dragons. My name is Ecco, she introduced herself, giving a light, cheerful bow to the young one. And what is your name?

Re: Crossroads of Fate
Sarai winced when the thorn was pulled, but the pain lessened to a dull throb. She licked the wound instinctively with her barbed tongue, sealing it with a few swipes. She settled it down gingerly and smiled at the one called Suvana, her lavender-flecked-with-grey eyes gleaming. She crooned a thank you and nudged Suvana's leg gently with her snout. She dipped her head gracefully to Suvana and the other twoleg, Ecco. My name is Sarai Sundaskular, daughter of Johdzsia Kuldrskular and Shruikan Sundablaka. she said. She always introduced herself this way; if the people she met knew who she was right off the bat, then they might trust her more down the road. Eka weohnata neiat haina ono. she murmured firmly to the both of them. She shifted her wings, the black-veined-gold membrane shimmering in the sunlight. She moved into a patch of sun that had warmed up the ground and laid down on it, letting her black-lined-with-gold scales soak up the luxurious warmth. She raised her head and sniffed slightly, her nostrils flaring. I smell another. Kin. You have a dragon. she said, looking at Suvana with bright eyes.
OOC: EDIT: *mutters* Thank you, I didn't even see that. >.>

Re: Crossroads of Fate
Suvana raised her eyebrows as the young one uttered her parents, seemingly unperturbed by her lineage. Suvana was almost immediately put on edge as she thought about the scrolls she had taken. However, the hatchling soon promised that she wouldn't harm them, so she sighed, figuring that there was no use hiding it. "Yeah, my dragon's name is Freed. He is currently off hunting after ruining tonight's dinner," Suvana smirked. So what are either of you doing in the Empire?" Suvana asked. Since Sarai was Shruikan's daughter, Suvana figured that the King would seize Sarai if he saw her or heard of her position.
That's good Sylverta replied as he flared his massive red wings. Lakris nimbly jumped into the air and swiftly landed on Sylverta's saddle, manipulating the wind currents to ensure an easy landing. Sylverta leaned back and his large hind legs flexed their muscles before he took to the air, knowing that Kalo would be close behind. The person who took the scrolls would probably be on his or her way back to the Varden, but with two dragons, Lakris was confident that they could catch the thief without much difficulty.

Re: Crossroads of Fate
Ecco smiled as Sarai introduced herself, though was made a little uneasy when she mentioned Shruikan was her father. The dragoness seemed nice enough and even assured them that she meant them no harm, but if she was Shruikan's daughter the black dragon or the King might try to capture her if they knew of her. She also couldn't help being curious about the dragon's past, but knew better than to ask. She wasn't around friendly, open, outgoing dolphins right now. She smiled briefly at the thought, remembering the chatty creatures. As Suvana asked about them, Ecco nodded. First of all, I am very eager to meet Freed when he returns. I am originally from the northern isles beyond the Spine, but my family was killed by the Empire and I eventually left to explore this land and also to see what I could do to help those opposed to him. I was simply traveling here, on my way to the coast, she explained, not perturbed at all about sharing so much of her past. It wouldn't hurt her to do so, and she was used to being very open since she had spent so much time around her third form's aquatic kin. She glanced between the other two, wondering how much they'd share.
Kalo nodded to Sylverta and waited for the large red to take off, his rider seated comfortably on his back. The pale bronze leaped up after them. He hoped they would find the thieves quickly. Though he was quite strong from his years of training, he didn't have the best endurance. Traveling was not his favorite pastime. Kalo actually didn't know that much about the mission, save the crime itself and what he was to do, so he flapped until he was more even with Sylverta and Lakris. Where do you suggest we head first? When we find the trail I can track it but I do not know where we are to start, he asked mildly, curious about the rider and dragon's plans.

Re: Crossroads of Fate
Sarai noticed that both of them became wary when she mentioned her father, but they didn't attack or bombard her with questions, so she assumed that they trusted her, at least a little bit. She smiled up at both of them. I'm waiting for my mother to catch up with me. We're heading toward Kuasta docks. she hesitated slightly, unsure if this information was free to give. She decided it was. What could it hurt. Me and my family are going to war in another country, where they need our help. My mother, my uncle, and cousins are all going, and even some family friends have offered to help. We're all meeting at the docks in about a week. My mother should be with me in another day or two. she said. Her black-lined-with-gold scales glittered in the sunlight as she shifted her weight slightly.

Re: Crossroads of Fate
Lakris didn't reply for a moment as he examined the geographic area around him. "The thief stole these scrolls from Dras-Leona, so she is probably running along the river south of Leona Lake to reach Surda. We should be able to intercept her before she reaches Feinster," Lakris explained. "There's undoubtedly going to be a track we can use to our advantage when we near the river, and that's when you can put your hunting skills to the test."
Suvana nodded at both of their stories, a little surprised that Sarai was going to war in a different land. She was so young as well. Even dragons as young as her experience the bitter action that is war Suvana thought to herself. "I come from Yazuac, but I left there before the Urgals came and destroyed the village. My parents and siblings were humans, so they have been dead for a long time now," Suvana explained, betraying the fact that she was older than she looked. She wondered what Jisa (Lakris) had been through after he left. He probably didn't last too long, unfortunately. Suvana herself would have died had she not met Freed. "I can sense Freed. He's on his way back," Suvana informed.

Re: Crossroads of Fate
Kalo nodded to Lakris, absorbing the information quickly and storing it in his mental map. He made it a habit of knowing where he was, where he was going, and what was around him--virtually anything could aide or hinder an assassin on a mission. Good. It shouldn't take long to get there, then, he said back, looking around them with a wary eye. This space was rather open, too open for Kalo's tastes. He preferred small spaces, or at least some darkness to cloak himself in. For a dragon used to hiding, flying out in the open put him ill at ease. He didn't show any of this unease, of course. Something as silly as that wasn't worth thinking or worrying about.
Ecco winced slightly at the mention of the war. So many dragons had been killed in the Fall that now all the fighting dragons were young, only newly joining their kin in life (or at least it seemed that way to her). True, she was only about four decades old, but that was still much older than most of the dragons she met in battle these days. Really? Another war? That news is very saddening... Can you tell us anything about it? she asked sympathetically, her voice soft. When Suvana shared her own story Ecco nodded sadly again. Everyone only has sad stories to share these days... it's high time we make some happy ones again, she murmured half to herself. She glanced up at the announcement that Freed was returning, eager to meet another dragon. When she saw the dragon she was certain she could better judge the ages of both. For now she just knew they were older than her.

Re: Crossroads of Fate
Sarai scowled, grumbling a few Draconic Curses. No, unfortunately, that's all I know. My mother was stingy on the details. If you want to know more, ask her when she finds me. she said. She looked up at Suvana, her eyes bright, when the Rider mentioned that her companion would be returning soon. The black-gold hatchling got to her paws and backflipped happily, landing with a light thud on the ground a moment later. Yippy! I love meeting more of my kin! she said eagerly, acting very much like the hatchling that she was.

Re: Crossroads of Fate
Lakris nodded. It wouldn't take long to get there at all, but the thief could be anywhere here. Locating her would be a problem if Lakris were on his own, but he had a feeling that Galbatorix had specifically assigned Kalo for this job. Especially when the dragon said that he could track the thief. Sylverta flew past Dras-Leona, and they were positioned directly over the Leona Lake. A narrow river led into the lake, and Sylverta flew fifty or so yards above the river, following it and glancing around closely. Lakris extended his mind around the area to sense all of the presences around. Sylverta's eyes widened slightly when his gaze passed over large marking on the ground. Kalo, I believe we found something the crimson-red informed. Sylverta descended and sniffed the traps, immediately recognizing them as dragon tracks. What do you think? he asked Kalo.
Suvana smiled at Ecco. "Indeed, forging happy memories to look back upon is something I've made a habit of doing since the Fall. Not so successfully, though. Things are so dull around Alagaesia nowadays," Suvana murmured. She sensed her mental bond approaching. "He's close," Suvana whispered. As if to confirm the fact, a mass of white flew past the trees and landed slowly, flaring his wings to catch the air. In his mouth were a deer and a few rabbits. I have dinner he said to Suvana, eying the young dragon and Elf. He looked from them to Suvana and back, quickly deducing that if she could trust them, then he might as well. He dipped his head slightly. It is a pleasure to meet friends of my Rider. My name is Freed he murmured. I apologize for not gathering more and other assortments of food. I didn't think that we would have guests Freed blinked.

Re: Crossroads of Fate
Kalo sailed down after the pair, taking his time as they went to inspect the mark. When he arrived, he nodded. Definitely dragon. Over a century old, that much I can say from size and depth of the tracks, he reported, lowering his neck to take in the scents surrounding the scores in the earth. The dragon was male, and he could smell a human female more faintly--the thief he assumed. Male dragon, the human female with him. Seems like they were a bonded pair. Also, this isn't very old. If we head in the right direction we could catch up within a day or two if we hurry. The fact that they're flying does complicate things slightly, he concluded, hoping his report of what he sensed would be adequate information for now. Though he had been trained extensively in tracking, there wasn't much one could do when following someone in the air.
Ecco laughed brightly as the small dragon backflipped in excitement. Really? I had no idea, she replied to Sarai's exclamation, laughing again. This one didn't seem too tainted by war yet. Ecco hoped this war in another land wouldn't hurt Sarai's bright spirits and enthusiastic nature, as war often did. After Suvana spoke again, Ecco sensed the dragon approaching, and watched with the others as he landed. The white greeted them and apologized for not bringing anything more. I am honored to meet you, Freed. And there is no need to apoligize--I have provisions and am quite capable of caring for myself. I am Ecco, she introduced cheerfully, bowing respectfully to the dragon. Though she was also a dragon (sort of), he was still much older and deserving of respect.

Re: Crossroads of Fate
Sarai grinned at Ecco, her eyes sparkling, then looked up to where she heard the other dragon. When Freed landed she couldn't help stumbling and closing her eyes to fend off the headache that instantly sprang up. She grunted softly and then returned to her chipper self, bounding forward to greet this new member of her kin. Hello, I'm Sarai, it's wonderful to meet you, Freed. she chirped happily. And don't worry about me. I recently hunted, and if I get hungry again it won't take much to sate me because of how small I am. she assured him, grinning wolfishly at him.

Re: Crossroads of Fate
OOC: Sorry I didn't see my name at the top lol I'll go now. I think I'll use Valria in this one just to get a feel for her. And Yssala for good measure.IC: Valria flew high over a road, enjoying the feel of the air as it swept through her pearly-white feathers. She was glad she had started her journey away from her homeland, eager to see what lie in wait for her beyond the mountains. Below her were some woodland, and yet she could sense others below. Perhaps they were friendly.
She angled her wings as she dove swiftly towards the canopy and neatly dodged branches as she found one preferably for her size. Valria perched herself and looked down on the group and observed them for a few minutes, determining if they were either friend or foe. Valria decided to speak her greeting.
Hello there, she chirped cheerfully, fluffing her feathers. I'm Valria. I've just been flying by and noticed you all here. Mind if I ask what you are all up to? I hope I didn't intrude on anything serious. She blinked her huge amber eyes in innocence to show she was not hostile.Yssala was hunting in the woods in the Empire. She knew it was risky, but it had been a day since she hunted anything and there was no way she'd be able to find anything nor build up her strength to carry on to actually do the hunting. She held out her bow and arrow towards a small pheasent she spotted preening himself near a brush when some rustling startled him and sent him flying.
She cursed under her breath and looked towards the noise. Yssala poised herself against a tree trunk and peeked around it, thankful for the shade. One of her fairy friends flew up and peeked around to get a good look too. The fairy whispered in Yssala's ear, assuring her that whoever was in the clearing was not an enemy. Yssala nodded, and shooed the little fairy away to a safer place. She looked around the tree again and noticed a group formulated of dragons, a couple humanoid figure, and a phoenix in a tree.
Yssala observed them from afar, unsure of whether to make herself noticed or to slip away into the shadows as though she were never hear. She decided to walk away. As she did, a branch snapped from underneath her feet. She flinched, unsure if anyone had heard her.

Re: Crossroads of Fate
Sylverta nodded at Kalo's seemingly accurate observation. The thief being a Rider changed things completely. They need to make do with the little time they had left. If they couldn't intercept the thief before she and her dragon reached Surda, they would probably fail their mission. It was a shame that the dragon was female; Galbatorix could have used a female dragon. Nevertheless, being over a century old, both the dragon and the Rider were most likely fairly experienced. Sylverta immediately pounced into the air, his large red wings allowing him to take flight with ease. We shall move with haste then, but we should always keep a close look on our surroundings Sylverta said to Kalo. Lakris gazed at the track with a small bit of unease. Something about the woman's scent seemed...nostalgic? He couldn't place his finger on it, so he decided not to contemplate it further.
And there is no need to bow, Ecco. It makes me feel old Freed replied, a toothy smile tugging at the corners of his lips. It is a pleasure to meet you all Freed proclaimed, his gaze passing over everyone. However, his gaze was diverted to a being with pure white feathers as it descended. A rainbow danced along it's feathers curiously when the light hit it. It was truly a magnificent being. Freed dipped his head once more. It is good to meet you, Valria. As for us, my Rider and I are delivering very important articles to the Varden that were stolen from the Empire. We stumbled upon you all on the way back Freed explained. He had no trouble disclosing this information, and he felt like he could trust those here.
A snapping twig caught his attention. Who is there? Freed asked sternly but not unkindly.

Re: Crossroads of Fate
Kalo nodded at the older dragon's words. Agreed, he said simply, following Sylverta into the air. His bronze and silver-clouded wings were short and broad, better for tight spaces, so it was rather disappointing that they would have to travel over a much greater distance than hoped. Kalo sighed. At least he would be prepared when they caught up to the dragon and rider. He wasn't called an assassin for nothing, and so knew how to fight just such an enemy--especially if they caught them by surprise.Ecco laughed at Freed's response. "Well you are older than I am, so it seemed appropriate," she said. A rustling from overhead caught her attention, and she saw the beautiful bird, prismatic light dancing through its feathers, perched in a tree above them. The bird introduced herself, her tone friendly, and Ecco smiled to her. "I'm Ecco, and I'm happy to meet you as well," she said after Freed spoke, then turning to the large dragon. "Delivering stolen articles, you say? Well if that's the case, you have my assistance!" she said to the dragon enthusiastically, hoping to help in the effort against the evil king.OOC: Whoops... just realized I've been using italics for Ecco's speech. Guess I'm too used to using my dragons... lol

Re: Crossroads of Fate
Sarai smiled up at the creature she felt in the tree. Hiya Valria, I'm Sarai. she chirped to the bird happily. She turned her head to where she heard the twig snap. She had noticed the twoleg before the others, due to her special ability with the earth, though only now that the others knew did she decide to acknowledge them. She turned and padded to exactly where she felt the twoleg to be, rounding a tree and finding the twoleg, frozen in position, still on the twig that she had snapped. The black-gold couldn't help it; she chuckled at the 'sight'. She padded up to the twoleg and nudged her in the side with her snout. I'm Sarai, pleased to meet you. Please come join us. she chirped, turning around and looking back, waiting for the twoleg to follow her.

Re: Crossroads of Fate
Valria nodded to each of them, glad to have been introduced to such friendly creatures. It's a pleasure to meet all of you. Her amber eyes warmed. Then she turned a serious gaze to the one called Freed. You say this Empire stole from the Varden? I have heard of these things told by my parents long ago, though I know not truly who is in charge of these places. May I ask for an explination? Perhaps I could help in some way. Since they were returning these artifacts to the place whence they came, Valria assumed they would be extremely important.
Yssala gritted her teeth in frustration for not being so careful. However, these were dragons she was dealing with, mostly. She was unsure of the elf as of yet, but she could handle small talk. As she braced herself to pull her bow into position when the black and golden dragon scampered over to her. She restrung her bow and faced the dragon, her guard up. When the dragon nudged her playfully, and introduced herself as Sarai, Yssala relaxed. She smiled slightly, and walked with her over to the rest of the group. It was easy for Yssala to relax in the presence of animals instead of humans.
"Hello there," she greeted them with a bigger smile. "I'm Yssala. I'm sorry for not introducing myself properly. See, I travel alone, and,"
Her explination was cut short by a loud cry in the sky. A red-tailed hawk landed in a tree a few meters behind her and looked pointedly at Yssala. She laughed and said, "Oh I forgot, this is Pheo. He's been following me ever since I was a kid. We're inseperable." Pheo let out a shriek as if to agree with her statement. "Anyway, I travel with a hawk, we're alone, and we've never been in the presence of dragons or elves or phoenixes before. What's this gathering about if I may ask?"

Re: Crossroads of Fate
OOC: @draco: I thought you did that because she was part dragon. Lakris could sense a group of consciousnesses now. Judging by the size and intelligence of the consciousnesses, none were animals. They were all guarded, so he couldn't make out anything more than that. "They're close," Lakris murmured to himself, speaking more to himself than Kalo. There was a good amount of them, at least twice Lakris' current party, but that wouldn't stop him from accomplishing his goal. Freed smiled at Ecco, thankful for her volunteer. Thank you Ecco. We actually don't have a lot of distance to cover at all until we reach Surda. Therefore, I doubt anything will happen along the way Freed said. The large white dragon smiled at Sarai's eagerness in meeting others when she padded up to the phoenix and conversed with her as if she were a long lost friend. Freed glanced at Valria when Yssala mentioned "phoenixes." Sounds about right he thought to himself. "Me and my Rider, along with a member or two of this group, I suppose, are delivering stolen articles from the Empire to the Varden. They will hopefully and probably benefit the Varden efficiently." Freed took a deep breath, needing some breath for all of the talking he was doing. At Valria's question, he continued, They are routes to enter Dras-Leona from underground through a multi-tunnel path. The Varden can transport their army into Dras-Leona unnoticed if they used this path. They need to do it quick, though. Before Galbatorix can send more forces to Dras-Leona Freed murmured.

Re: Crossroads of Fate
Kalo glanced towards Lakris when he murmured that they were close. The dragon stretched out his own mind to detect other consciousnesses in the area, and quickly found them. He could just barely smell them as well, since his senses were enhanced slightly by Galbatorix's spells. He sped his wingbeats slightly, eager to get on with the mission and complete the job. Kalo wanted to move on to more important missions and assassinations, and this would be the first step to that goal.
Ecco glanced towards Valria at the newcomer's words. So this was a phoenix... a beautiful and interesting creature. The shapeshifter hoped to learn more about her soon. When Freed thanked her for her offer of help she smiled and inclined her head. "Well I'll be there regardless. I'm happy to help," she replied cheerfully. After the dragon and rider had finished explaining things to Yssala and Valria, Ecco waved to the newest member of their party. "I'll be accompanying them, too. I'm Ecco, by the way. Pleased to meet you," she said happily to Yssala. She glanced back towards Suvana and Freed, wondering what these tunnels under Dras Leona could be like. Curiosity about them was quickly becoming predominant in Ecco's mind.

Re: Crossroads of Fate
Sarai padded back just in time to hear Freed say a few things about some stolen items and about how they could benefit the Varden. She eagerly stepped forward, her eyes bright. I can help too, if you like. she offered. She glanced to the side at Yssala and Pheo and dipped her head in greeting to them, then turned back to Freed and Suvana. I was born with a gift that I can see everything around me with my feet, even though I myself am actually blind. Sometimes I get overwhelmed or something startles me, like a flying creature land, which then I suddenly feel them when I didn't before. Perhaps I could use my powers somehow to help. she shrugged, but the tip of her tail twitched excitedly.

Re: Crossroads of Fate
Valria listened intentively towards Freed and Suvana and replied, Well I'll be more than willing to assist you in this mission. Though all I can provide is what battle knowledge I aquire, I can do my best. She looked over at Yssala and nodded her head in greeting. I'm Valria, and yes I am a phoenix. How did you know? I guess not many know of my kind, as I have not run into many phoenixes outside my home.
Yssala was surprised that the dragon called Sarai was blind. She didn't act like it but once she explained how she could "see" Yssala took that into consideration with facination. She turned to Valria. "I was told of great legends and the phoenix was one of them. I saw pictures in storybooks and you seemed to match the description, though you are white in color instead of red...?" Yssala turned to the others, acknowledging them with a nod. "It's a pleasure to meet all of you," she replied to the introductions. Pheo began preening himself as a statement of being glad to meet others too. "I can offer some assistance," she said to Freed and Suvana. "My grandmother Elixana taught me how to use magic and I can call to the elements should I need their help. Though I'm just learning about it myself, I don't know the full extent of my abilities yet." The tunnels peaked her interest and she was eager to learn more about them.

Re: Crossroads of Fate
OOC: I guess they'll arrive on my next post.
IC: Lakris kept an impassive gaze, but his insides were churning with slight anticipation. It would be his first mission for the king, and he wished for it to go flawlessly. The amount of enemies would probably make things more difficult than originally thought, but that hardly mattered to him now. It wouldn't be necessary to fight all of them, but just to retrieve the scrolls and possibly kill the thief. Sylverta put on an extra burst of speed, and his keen eyesight searched the ground avidly for the thief and her dragon.
Freed blinked with surprise as everyone volunteered their help. This many people wouldn't be needed, not when they were so close to Surda. Nonetheless, Freed accepted their offer. I thank you all for your help. I cannot guarantee that much will happen on the way back to Surda, but the Varden might plan to siege Dras-Leona soon with these scrolls in hand Freed said. Suvana glanced at Sarai interestedly when the dragon said that she was blind. That would explains stepping on that thorn, but her gift was one that Suvana hadn't seen before. "We eagerly welcome all of your help," Suvana said with a small smile. "We should probably leave in a little bit, though. Staying in the Empire doesn't cease to put me on edge," Suvana said seriously.

Re: Crossroads of Fate
Kalo bared his teeth briefly, working his jaw and feeling the muscles around his venom glands. Which breath weapon should he use first? His natural ice, the added tarry breath, or the higher-energy acid? Or should he just skip a breath weapon and try to bite their opponents? They wouldn't know that he had an extremely poisonous bite, and so it would catch them off guard. Yes, that seemed the way to go: venom. He would see how Sylverta and Lakris attacked, and then he would get close enough to the enemy to make a surprise attack. He followed after the dragon and rider, scanning the ground with both sight and smell to find the thief and her allies.
Ecco nodded to Freed and Suvana. "Even if not much happens, maybe I can find some work of my own in Surda. I've never introduced myself properly to the Varden, so maybe it is time to do so," she remarked, leaning back and propping herself against a tree. She glanced toward Valria and Yssala, curious about the phoenix. "So where are you from, Valria? I've never heard of a phoenix in Alagaesia, though I suppose there are countless things here that I don't know about," she asked.

Re: Crossroads of Fate
Sarai chuckled at the reaction she felt as she explained her abilities. She nodded to Suvana. Of course. I suppose I don't need to stay in one place to wait for Mom. She can find me for once. she grumbled. Usually it was she that found her mother, or at least most of the time it was. She turned and padded a ways away, only a few feet, then looked back with a smile. Come on then. I'll be running on the ground, but don't worry about me. I'm fast. I'd give a horse a run for their money. Or would it be a run for their hay? she said, grinning wider, her lavender-flecked-grey eyes glittering. She chuckled quietly at her small humor, glancing at Valria. Indeed. Gryphons I've seen before, but not phoenixes. she commented, tilting her head curiously.

Re: Crossroads of Fate
Valria felt a little shy all of a sudden, as everyone held their attention towards her. But with her head held high, she trilled, Well, I'm from north east of Du Weldenvarden in some mountains. There, my family and a few others made our homes there. As for why I'm white, I'm an albino. Everyone else in my family and peers are either red or reddish-orange. As you can see, I'm neither, she added with a laugh. Then Valria turned her head to Suvana and Freed. I'm willing to leave whenever you guys are ready. That is, all of us I mean, she replied warmly.
Yssala listened to Valria with great interest. "That's amazing, I didn't know there were still a few of you left. I imagine it's lonesome, never running into another phoenix except for in your home." She stretched her limbs and adjusted her bow around her body. She couldn't help but laugh at Sarai's remark. Then she asked, "I'm ready, how about you guys?" as she looked around at the rest of the group.

Re: Crossroads of Fate
Suvana giggled at Sarai's comments. Freed and Suvana glanced at Valria curiously as she explained a very brief overview of her history as a phoenix. Despite being old as he was, Freed had never witnessed a phoenix before. It was surely a sight to behold, one that he would remember. He flared his large wings, It seems that everyone is ready, so let us dep- he stopped as gaze was drawn to the north when he saw some movement out of the corner of his eye. Typically, he wouldn't have given it much thought, but two reasons kept him from quickly dismissing it. One, he was wary in the Empire; two, the movement came from the air. He smiled slightly in preparation of meeting more allies, which the newcomers were anything but.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Lakris gazed down at the group, still a good half-mile away from them. However, the forest he and Kalo had been flying over had given them decent cover for the time being. There was a large white dragon, some other white feathery creature, another dragon, an elf, a human, and the rider. He could recognize the Rider because, by grazing her consciousness so lightly that she most likely wouldn't even feel it, he could tell that her mind was bonded. Not any more than that, due to her mind being guarded well, but that was enough. Nonetheless, there was a large amount of opponents. It didn't have to be a contest of strength, though. All the needed to do was retrieve the scrolls. Killing the rider and dragon might leave a decent impression as well. Sylverta passed over the trees so that he was hovering around thirty yards in the air and about ten yards in front of them.
Lakris glanced down at the group impassively before uttering, "Amaterasu Formula Seven: Shard of Destruction," Lakris murmured before slashing his hand through the air. A red blade, slightly curved in form, stood vertically at nearly twenty feet high and soared towards the white dragon.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Freed's eyes widened when the figure atop the dragon murmured some sort of spell and swiped his arm through the air. A red blade of energy soared towards the group. Move! Freed shouted to them all. He jumped into the air and flapped his wings towards the newcomers, sending him back. Suvana waved her hand out in front of her and a transparent shield, white in color, formed in front of the group. The shard slammed into it, struggling to cut through the shield for a moment before slicing through it as if it were butter. Suvana continued to back step until she was safe from the blast.

Re: Crossroads of Fate
Kalo split off from Lakris and Sylverta as soon as he could tell where the group was by scent. He wouldn't let them get the chance to detect him. The bronze was a master of stealth, and could close his mind in a way that made it undetectable by all but the best. He darted into the forest in a clearer area, gliding to the ground and landing with almost no sound despite the weight of his muscular body. He moved rapidly through the trees, using the sounds of the opening battle to cover his approach, until he was within sight of the unfolding chaos. When the dragon and rider fully begun the attack, he would spring. First, however, he needed to decide who to bite. His venom could only be used once without energy--subsequent uses would require even more energy than his acid breath.Ecco smiled at Valria, interested in her words and about these mountains she mentioned, until disaster struck. An enemy dragon and rider swept down on them out of the sky, the rider hurling a large magical blade at the group. Ecco reacted rapidly, summoning her earth magic and lifting the chunk of earth that Sarai was standing on, moving the young dragon out of the blast zone before jumping to safety herself (since she figured the dragon probably wouldn't be able to sense where the blade was going to strike, since it was still in the air). She turned around and saw Suvana's shield fall under the blade, and a large blast resulted as the magic hit the ground. Ecco raised up a swarm of razor-sharp ice shards and flung them at the attackers, and then hurled a few boulders at them for good measure. Her magic wasn't as powerful as usual, since the climate was much warmer this close to Surda, but she still had a strong connection to the earth magic of the shaman elves, and fully intended on using it.Kalo waited, watching as the group began a counterattack on Lakris and Sylverta. Perfect. They had no idea he was hiding just beyond their clearing. The dragon and rider, the original thieves, were already fighting, so it would be harder to surprise them. The best use of his venom would be on the younger dragoness or the large white bird. He tensed his muscles and put his weight back on his haunches, preparing to spring as he made his decision.OOC: Please don't detect Kalo yet, guys. Got something planned for him... hehehe

Re: Crossroads of Fate
Sarai yelped a bit and grasped the earth beneath her with her talons as it moved up and quickly away. A few moments later she heard a loud crash, as if something had hit the ground. She hissed with distaste, not liking the feeling of not being able to sense anything. She was well and truly blind at the moment. She considered jumping down from the earth pocket but she didn't know how far down it was from her current position. And she couldn't take flight either, so she was well and truly stuck for a while. She huffed and stamped a paw, irritated. She strained her ears for anything that came her way, even though her hearing wasn't the best, even for a dragon.

Re: Crossroads of Fate
Valria hadn't known what had happened. One minute they were planning to take off, and then the next moment they were ambushed. She squaked in protest and flew away from the blast zone. Thinking quickly, she flew over to Sarai and landed on her shoulders. I will be your eyes! she yelled over the blast. You're out of danger for now, but I suggest you jump to the ground to the left! She felt useless, only knowing that since Sarai's senses were completely gone momentarily, she could help her guide her to the ground so she would stand a better chance at fighting.
Yssala heard Pheo screech. From above, an ariel attack descended from above,a force knocking her off her feet as a blast radiated the air surrounding her. Her ears ringing, Yssala got to her feet and grabbed her bow, pulling an arrow from her quiver faster than the naked eye. She slowed her breathing and concetrated on the surrounding elements. Yssala called earth and air to surround her arrow as she shot it at the attacking dragon above. She only hoped it would provide a distraction.

Re: Crossroads of Fate
Two of the people he had attacked, both of which were humanoid, quickly reacted and retaliated with strikes applying the elements. He redirected the small boulders sent to him in random directions and blew away the ice shards as well. Sylverta maneuvered to the left, avoiding the arrow(s) flying towards him. Hurry up, Kalo Lakris thought to himself. Whatever the dragon had been planning, he had better make it quick. Sylverta lowered to the ground, allowing Lakris to step off, before charging towards the white creature.
Lakris extended a hand and beckoned, "I believe you have something of ours," Lakris said, his eyes boring straight into the Rider. He squinted at her, examining her thoroughly. Could she...no, it was impossible. All of his sisters had died probably before the Fall.
She was staring at him in a similar manner, and her eyes widened suddenly. "J-J-Jisa...?" the woman spoke, using Lakris' long discarded name. Lakris' eyes widened, and he recoiled as he head began to throb. Lakris grimaced, placing a hand on his forehead at the pain he was feeling. What was this pain?
"S-Suvana," Lakris uttered in a tone slightly louder than a whisper. He had momentarily forgotten that he was supposed to be killing her and taking the scrolls. His eyes darted from the woman to the large white dragon. She had become a Rider? When?
Lakris cursed as the pain intensified. Suvana was a reminder of his past, before he had become a Shade. Now that she was alive, there was turmoil in his mind. He extended his palm towards Suvana, who only stood, wide-eyed in shock. A red chain extended from his palm, constructed of energy, and drove towards Suvana. His long lost sister was too devastated to react, and it struck her on her chest. Sliding his hand towards him and to the right, Suvana was thrown in a similar direction, still hooked to the chain.
No matter who she was, she was a reminder of his past. She was why he was going through all of this pain, and she had to die!

Re: Crossroads of Fate
Kalo waited until the large bird had fluttered down from her perch and gotten onto the young dragoness. Both were possible targets, but it seemed like something was off with the dragon... was she blind? The bronze let out a huff of breath as he made his decision, and then leaped forward through the trees. Before any of the group had time to react, he had knocked the bird off the small dragon. He pinned her to the ground and sank his fangs into her body, injecting a dose of his venom. With that, he immediately leapt away and gotten back near the trees, out of range of a physical counterstrike. He let out a powerful blast of ice over the group of creatures on the ground, letting Lakris and Sylverta deal with the rider and her dragon.
Ecco raced toward the attacking rider, but was surprised to see him and Suvana staring at each other, both of them with confused expressions. Suddenly, the enemy rider sent a magical chain at Suvana, whipping her to the side. Ecco cried out and raced toward him, then summoned a huge wall of ice and snow and sent it toward him. He could block it, certainly, but it would take energy. Summoning the earth magic for her took relatively little energy. She then murmured a more complex spell and a huge crack opened up in the ground, separating Suvana from the enemy rider. That one took more energy, but it might give Suvana a respite. Ecco charged closer to the enemy rider, drawing her twin daggers.

Re: Crossroads of Fate
Sarai flinched as she felt the bird land on her and tell her where to go and that she would be her eyes. She nodded and leapt down to the ground. As soon as she landed however, the phoenix was knocked off of her by something. But now that she was on the ground again, she could feel everything. She knew it was a dragon that was beside her, and obviously one that was working against them. She cried in dismay as he pinned Valria to the ground and...bit her? Then he simply ran away. Something in her gut told her that nothing good would come from that. She snarled and pounced after the dragon, her lavender-flecked-with-grey eyes inflamed with anger. Get your sorry tail back here! I will rip your wings from your back for hurting her! she shrieked, her black-lined-with-gold scales bristling madly. She dodged the ice, having sensed where he had been aiming it. She slid to a stop and spun on her forelegs, slashing her tail down his left foreleg with the blade there. Once she had spun completely around and leapt at him, her jaws wide and talons ready to shred.

Re: Crossroads of Fate
Valria felt triumph as Sarai jumped to the ground. As she didn't have any special skills, it filled her with happiness that she could give her friend this small kindness. But that feeling was short-lived. The moment Sarai hit the ground, something came from the shadows of the trees behind. Valria only had a moment to look and catch something the color of bronze before she was struck. Jaws clamped down on her body, resulting to her letting out a horrifying screech of pain as teeth sunk in through her feathers and into her skin. Whatever it was only held on momentarily and as soon as it had come it vanished from the darkness whence it came.
For a moment, she was confused as to whoever bit her ran and hadn't finished the job. She was vulnerable, and easy prey within its teeth. Valria couldn't comprehend, that is, until something slammed at her chest painfully. It was her heart. Her heart began to beat uncontrollably, her breathing cut short into sharp, ragged breaths. Poison, she whispered, flapping her wings and falling head-first into the ground. Her body shook as though it were winter, her whole body becoming numb. Valria knew then that she was dying.
Yssala cussed under her breath as she dodged another attack, and watched for a moment as a man and Suvana stared at each other. Shock mimicked in each others' expressions. She didn't have time to find out what happened after that. A pale bronze dragon shot out of the trees, launching itself at Valria completely overtaking her in its jaws. It only held on for a moment before letting her go, retreating into the trees. She raced to Valria, and noticed how as she tried to get up, her body began to convulse in sheer agony. "She was poisoned!" she exclaimed, mostly to herself but loud enough for everyone to hear. Yssala gritted her teeth in pure anger as she aided Sarai in an attack towards the dragon. However, as she did so, ice was shot out towards them all, though most dodged it Yssala's feet were completely encased in the ice as she turned to try and get out of the way.
"Riturca neu farae! she hissed, hammering her fists against the block, calling her faerie friends in their tongue. Immediately, ten to twenty little lights appeared from the trees and began to swarm her feet, melting the ice with their magic.
"Thank you my friends," she whispered, touched that they helped her in her time of need.

Re: Crossroads of Fate
Lakris' eyes flickered with satisfaction as Kalo quickly intervened from his hiding spot and bit the albino being on its neck, injecting some of his famous venom. As a wall of ice was sent towards him, he jumped, shooting a gust of wind towards the ground to send him even higher. He soared over the wall and hovered in the air for a moment before dropping down. He stumbled slightly when a large crack in the earth opened, separating him from Suvana.
Suvana was shaken out of her stupor when her brother had struck her with chains constructed of energy. She didn't feel any pain, surprisingly, probably because she was numb with shock. Things were happening too quickly for her to comprehend, and before she knew it, a large crack in the earth separated her from her brother. "Brother...What has happened to you?" She whispered, looking at him as if he were an entirely different person.
"I could say the same to you. Even as an old Rider, you are still weak," he snapped, still rubbing his temples.
There was so many things she could have asked him. When did he become a Rider? Why was he working for Galbatorix? Why was he trying to kill her? She pointed her palm towards him, and a white ball of energy swirled. She stared him straight in his eyes, and fired. A large white beam swerved towards Lakris. He held his palm out as well, and his hand met the beam of energy in a collision. His eyes widened at the power behind it, and as the entirety of the beam converged together, the area around Lakris exploded in a white mass.
When the dust cloud cleared, a portion of Lakris' clothes were torn, and numerous bruises marked his body. He seethed, glaring at his sister. He weaved his arms around, bending the wind currents, and he charged towards her. He came up in front of her quickly, but quickly darted around her, moving at a nearly incomprehensible speed. When he was behind her, he struck his palm into her back, stunning her with electricity before funneling a large shock into her body.
Sylverta watched as a young dragon leapt towards Kalo. Sylverta swung his massive tail at her, intent on slamming her back. I do not wish to injure young ones Sylverta murmured.

Re: Crossroads of Fate
Kalo snorted as the young dragoness, barely a hatchling, leaped toward him and brought her tail blade down on his left foreleg. He jerked it back and the blade just scratched through his scales, which had been hardened by Galbatorix's magic. You should stay out of this fight, hatchling, he chided as Sylverta whipped his huge tail towards her. Kalo had no wish to fight hatchlings either, and so jumped into the air toward the large white dragon. He made to tackle into him, but then rolled away through the air and swung his tail towards his opponent's head, the imposing blade and twin spikes slamming out of the air. His tail would be dangerous to grip as well, for the spikes along his spine were razor-sharp. Before his opponent could try, however, Kalo shot forward and twisted himself around, spitting a blast of his thick, tarry substance (which was like a variation of his venom) at the white dragon's face.
The enemy rider leapt over Ecco's wall of ice and made it over the crack, attacking Suvana. However, Suvana sent a powerful magic attack at him, which he countered with his own magic. She wasn't as adept at the magical fighting as the riders. When the red dragon attacked Sarai, she had had enough. Ecco sheathed her daggers and her body suddenly dissolved into thousands of tiny points of light, which spread out slightly before coming back together and reforming into something much larger. When the light dimmed, a large black and white dragon was revealed. Ecco let out a roar and sprang at the red, going at him with her extra long teeth and talons (an adaptation inherited from her ice and water dragon ancestors). She was smaller, but was a ferocious fighter and had a multitude of razor-sharp spikes and spines on her body for defensive purposes. The pale bronze had already left and was attacking Freed.

Re: Crossroads of Fate
Sarai didn't care that she was small, didn't care that she was a hatchling, didn't care that the silver and bronze male could squish her like a fly under his paw. She knew it might be a mistake, but she yelled out anyway, her lavender-flecked-with-grey eyes seething with anger. I am the daughter of Johdzsia Kuldrskular and Shruikan Sundablaka! I back down to nothing! she screeched angrily, swiping her claws at the other males tail that he swung at her. Her abnormal strength allowed her to bat the tail away like it was a fly, with only a mild jolt to her shoulder that made her wince. She leapt at Sylverta, teeth bared to rip, and sank her talons into his flank. Fight me like a dragon, or are you a cowardly snake and intend to force me out of the fight by way of severe injury just because I'm a bit small? she hissed venomously, black-lined-with-gold scales bristling with hostility. Before he could respond she scrambled onto his back, talons ripping away chunks of flesh as she did so. She closed her eyes to concentrate better, and then she found it; a nerve that caused severe pain in the lower back area. She slammed the underside of her tail, the blunt side, into the nerve as hard as she could.

Re: Crossroads of Fate
Valria felt her whole world shake, she could not get a sense of what was up or down. In her moment of dying, Valria's instincts, ancient and wise, rose from within her. She spoke as though she were speaking for someone else. Life begins anew, some in other forms returning to complete what they had finished. Where darkness triumphs in battle, light wins the war. She whispered those words, unsure what they meant even to herself, as she watched her surroundings become black. Within a few minutes, Valria fell, bursting into a variation of colors and light that shot out within a few feet of the surrounding area. OOC: (Picture a nebula that's what it looks like)
Yssala watched, horrified, as the pheonix Valria died. She burned with anger towards the dragon who bit and injected her with venom. By the time her faerie friends melted the ice surrounding her feet, there was nothing she could do for the bird. She shook, directing her hatred towards the white dragon. She barely recognized the rest of her surroundings as Ecco took the form of a dragon. Yssala would have to find out more about how she did that another time. The elements within her called to the Earth, and automatically water, earth, air, and fire surrounded her in a torrent. When she drew an arrow from her quiver, the elements were drawn to the tip, all four seeming to combine into a terrible force. She aimed at the white dragon, and with deadly accuracy, Yssala let go, watching the arrow spin towards her target.

Re: Crossroads of Fate
Sylverta growled at the pain of his punctured nerve. He picked up his massive tail and slammed it on the hatchling on his back, battering her with it a couple of times to effectively throw her off. You're in for a world of hurt, daughter of Shruikan Sylverta warned, his eyes flashing angrily and he charged a ball of fire in his mouth before letting it loose at her. As another black and white dragon charged towards him, he quickly recognized the dragoness as, previously, an elf. Let's see how good your fire is, dragon! Sylverta shouted before blowing a torrent of fire towards the dragon.
Freed snaked his head backwards as one of the enemy dragons attacked him. Freed was about to retaliate with his own counterattack, but the dragon quickly maneuvered around Freed, shooting some sort of substance at the pure-white. Freed spat a small bit of fire at the thick substance and swerved around it. His opponent could inject venom into someone and shoot substances from his mouth, as well as probably the standard dragon fire, so he would be a fearsome opponent. Freed swept his tail towards the dragon intent on whipping the dragon's side with it, and then snatched it back so that the dragon couldn't bite it. He then charged forward, prepared to tackle the dragon. However, out of the corner of his eye, he saw an arrow flying towards the pale icy dragon he had been fighting. Quickly recognizing the elements surrounding the arrow as work of Yssala, Freed quickly jumped back so as to not interfere with its path towards Kalo.
Lakris watched with surprise as the albino being combusted in a light explosion. Was that part of Kalo's ability? Nonetheless, he focused back on Suvana.
"What happened to you?" His sister shrieked, slashing through the air with her hands in emphasis.
"I developed my own way of thinking. I became independent," Lakris responded coolly.
Ignoring his response, Suvana continued to ramble. "Are you forcefully sworn to Galbatorix? You can change! You can change your true name and join the Varden!" she informed, hope shining in her eyes.
Lakris glared at her in disgust before pointing his palm towards her. "Amaterasu Formula 30: Burning Needle!" He shouted, and he waved his arm in an arc in front of him. A florescent, narrow veil appeared in front of him, and needles of energy shot from it.
Suvana's eyes widened and she summoned up another shield, but the needles quickly either broke through the shield or burned through it. They were coated with a strong form of acid. Suvana quickly drew her sword and blocked or dodged as many needles as she could, her agility surprising to Lakris.
However, some indeed did strike her and her arms sagged to the side. Burn marks marked her arms and were bleeding slightly as well. "When did you change?" she murmured helplessly.
"Since I was forced to lift the world around me with my own two hands," Lakris replied. "Don't you remember? You deserted me!" He shouted.

Re: Crossroads of Fate
Ecco stopped short of reaching the red, noticing Valria on the ground and in obvious pain. Suddenly, she burst into colorful light, her body exploding. The dragoness blinked, confused by the explosion but angered that she was apparently dead. The pale bronze dragon had killed the phoenix. However, before she could check to see if he was still fighting Freed, the red sent a large column of fire her way. I don't need fire, she hissed, and let out a powerful blast of ice, which absorbed the fire of the larger dragon. However, due to his obvious age and power, the ice was melted into a spray of water which dispersed around them. Sarai was attacking him with teeth and talons, and it seemed she possessed abnormal strength. Perhaps it had something to do with her lineage? Ecco charged at the red, deciding that together she and the younger dragon could drive him off. She breathed out another cloud of ice and made to get behind him, her smaller size making her more agile. She lashed out with her claws, intending on raking them down his hip and tail.
Kalo saw the white dragon lash at him with his tail. He quickly barrel-rolled so that the tail would meet the spikes on his back rather than his side as the white intended. The tail was drawn rapidly back and the dragon tensed, as if about to charge. However, he suddenly dodged to the side in time to reveal a magical arrow heading straight for Kalo's chest. The arrow seemed to be infused with the powers of the elements. Kalo breathed out a huge column of ice and then a large blast of the tar breath to weaken the missile and then folded his wings to dive out of the way. It still managed to hit him on the back, however, and it still retained some of its magic. He grunted as the arrow struck, knocking him back a little, but continued his dive. He would deal with the wound later; it wasn't especially dangerous at the moment. He swooped down towards the offending two-leg and let out another blast of the tarry breath over her head, intending on getting her stuck in it (the substance burned the eyes as well for good measure). He then swooped back up into the air and twisted his body to deal with the white dragon again.

Re: Crossroads of Fate
Sarai staggered with a yelp as his tail slammed into her, shaking her a bit loose off of his back. She cursed in her native tongue. She'd been paying so much attention to staying upright on his back that she had forgotten to watch for any retaliations from him. She snarled and beat her wings, jumping over the next blow of his tail. She alighted back down on the ground with a dull thud. She whirled around instantly, dodging the fireball, and slammed her tail into another nerve, this time in his upper left foreleg. This one instead of causing pain would make the limb go completely numb for several minutes. Do not underestimate me. she hissed at Sylverta. She leapt up and dug her talons into his shoulder, using it as support and she pulled her way back onto his body. She felt Ecco moving in and grinned to herself, pausing at his neck. She spread her talons wide and then sank them into Sylverta's neck, clenching down hard on a nerve that causes pain.

Re: Crossroads of Fate
Yssala jumped over a couple of logs as she pulled more arrows out. She wouldn't stop, not after what that bronze dragon did to Valria. The phoenix was innocent, he had slain a creature in cold blood. For that, she would avenge Valria's death. She felt triumph as she saw her arrow sink into the dragon, though it was out of character for her to feel glee towards another creature's suffering. Once she let go a few arrows towards the bronze, Yssala pulled out her last arrow and aimed it at the white dragon, the one Sarai bit into.
For those remaining moments, what was left of Valria were little lights floating around aimlessly in a trasnslucent cloud of rainbows. Everything began to settle, that is, until the lights began to float towards each other again. Ever so slowly, the clouds and lights formed together on the ground, sparkling and lighting up the surrounding area, until it was almost blinding. Valria, for a moment couldn't see anything. She felt herself floating away, until she heard the words she chanted before she died ring in her head. Valria felt herself falling again, falling...falling...until that is her vision went from dark to light. Valria's eyes fluttered until she opened them completely. Whatever light was there, it dimmed but it hadn't completely faded away so that Valria could see her feathers shimmering with a pure white light. She stared, her beak agape, until she realized there was still a battle going on. Valria got up and flapped her wings, flying over the battle scene. She mostly flew higher and higher, just so then she could regain her strength from whatever just happened.

Re: Crossroads of Fate
Sylverta roared, although it sounded a bit like a gurgle when Sarai climbed back to his back and sank her jaws into his neck. That won't work as well the second time, hatchling! Sylverta yelled. He flapped his massive wings and soared upwards, knowing that Ecco would strike him from behind. Since the young dragon had slowed his movement, he was at a disadvantage against faster dragons. Therefore, he couldn't let his tail get injured. With the young dragon still on his back, Sylverta maneuvered as well as he could with a limp foreleg. Finally, he flew in a loop and used his tail to pry Sarai from his body while he was over twenty-five feet in the air. When she was off, Sylverta slammed his skull against her, using his sharp neck spikes to impale her as well as slam her to the ground.
Freed positioned himself, ready to dodge out of the way in case the pale icy dragon decided to fire some other substance from his jaws.
Suvana shook her head slightly, remembering the time that Jisa had asked her and her siblings to come with him. They all had declined; that was what Jisa had been referring to. "I'm sorry, Jisa! I wasn't sure at the time th-"
"Don't call me Jisa!" Lakris snapped. "My name is Lakris. Everything of my past has long since been discarded," he snarled. "Everything, except for you," he added, pointing a shaking finger at her. "Don't remind me of the past! I don't want to ever have to deal with it again! Not you, not father, not mother, no one! I don't even want to think about the memories," he stammered, shaking his head. "I'm going to kill you!" he shouted, and the tip of the finger he had been pointing at her glowed. A red spear of energy shot like a bullet and struck through Suvana's stomach.
Blood poured from the wound, and she collapsed onto her knees, her arms barely holding her body up. Why wouldn't he listen? Here she was, thinking that all of her family was dead, when actually her brother was alive? And he didn't even want to see her. He didn't care that she was still alive... Her body shook with sadness, fear, worry. But most of all, it shook with anger.
"Fine, if that's how you want it to be," she murmured, her voice barely audible. "I'll sever those bonds between us then," she finished, and she gazed up to look at him. Her eyes were a pale red, and dim flames flickered in them.

Re: Crossroads of Fate
Ecco slashed the red dragon's tail with her claws as he jumped into the air and flew out of reach. She launched herself into the sky as well, but did not head at him from behind as expected. Instead she swerved away, taking a little time to get out of range from him before charging back in. Unfortunately, when she approached again he had dislodged Sarai and was slamming his head down at her. Ecco roared angrily and struck his wing as he completed the move against Sarai, ripping and tearing at the membrane with razor-sharp claws and then darting away again, blasting some ice behind her for good measure in case he tried a counterattack. As she was arcing out again, she noticed Suvana and the enemy rider below seemed to be yelling at each other. Suddenly, the rider sent a red spear of magical energy at Suvana, striking her in the stomach. Ecco growled and swooped down toward them before attacking the red dragon again, letting loose more ice above his head. She then flew up toward the red and headed for his other wing.
Kalo ignored the arrows sent at him by the two-leg. His magically hardened scales caused the normal ones to bounce off, and any that were magic-infused were no more than pinpricks. He had endured far worse pain than a few arrows in his flanks. Perhaps there was some benefit to Galbatorix's torturings... He launched himself at the white dragon again, ready to rip and tear. He didn't have the endurance for a long fight, and had been trained to use the most powerful finishing moves in battle to kill or disable an opponent as quickly as possible. He hadn't gotten close enough to the white to use them yet, but now he was going to. He breathed out more ice to divert any possible fire, and then bit at the base of the dragon's wing, injecting more venom (it wasn't particularly dangerous anymore, since he had already used it, but it would cause the muscles in that region to cramp up). He then kicked himself away from the dragon's back, whipping his tail down to try and run the blade across the white's wing membrane. A large enough rip combined with the muscle cramps could severly damage the dragon's flying ability. As Kalo backed up further, he noticed something shining below. He looked at it fully and saw with anger that the bird creature had reformed from the cloud of light and was flapping away slightly, looking disoriented. He growled, angry that his one proper use of venom in this fight had gone to waste.

Re: Crossroads of Fate
Sarai screeched in pain as Sylverta dislodged her and slammed her into the ground, driving his sharp neck spikes into her flank, hip, side, and lower back. She'd rarely felt pain like this. It numbed her body. But it didn't immobilize her as she thought it might. It angered her. She turned, still pinned, and tore her talons into his neck, ripping away large chunks of flesh. Even though it hurt, a lot, she turned and twisted until her feet were against his neck, and then she kicked him away, hard, with her abnormal strength. She sprang to her paws and swayed, crimson blood staining almost her entire left side and dripping from her underbelly to the ground. She took a step and went down on one leg, then pushed herself back up onto all fours. She hissed and sprang at Sylverta, but was brought up short as her left hind leg refused to move properly. She cried out and limped to a halt, holding that leg gingerly off the ground. She snarled angrily. She wanted to help fight! But this wound was worse than she'd thought at first. She tried to move and winced, finding herself unable to.

Re: Crossroads of Fate
Yssala cursed again when the arrows were deflected off of the bronze dragon's scales. It appeared they have hardened and would have been harder to penetrate. Pheo screeched from above, diving down towards the dragon that had injured Sarai and pecked around his face. Meanwhile, Yssala ran over to Sarai, the young dragoness was foolish but very brave. Her faerie friends followed suit. In their language, Yssala explanied to them what appeared to be wrong with Sarai and immediately they swarmed around Sarai, their lights twinkling and flashing as they covered her injured leg and gouge wounds along her flank. "Do not fear, they are friends," she explained to Sarai in case she would be angered or frightened by the foreign lights. "They will heal you. Pheo and I will distract the white dragon while they work their magic. But it won't take that long," she added with a wink, unsheathing her dagger from her hip and facing the dragon advancing towards her.
Valria had finally came to her senses when she realized she had died. But she didn't know what had happened that could have brought her back to life. She assumed it was the words she spoke when she felt the life drain from her though she could not be certian. As she flew high above the battle, Valria spotted the bronze dragon with the stripes battling a new dragon, a white one. She assumed the white was on their side considering the bronze was the one to attack her in the first place. Valria, with a new ounce of strength descended upon her opponent, ready to help the white dragon in any way she could even if it meant using her beak and talons. As she dove, her body began to radiate with a shining white light that not even Valria was aware of what it could do. She swiftly angled her head to look at her wings and noticed there was a sort of a white fire engulfed around her. She didn't question it. Instead she took the iniciatve to ram into the bronze dragon's head, avoiding anymore of his teeth so as not to be poisoned again.

Re: Crossroads of Fate
Sylverta roared. His neck was bleeding profusely, and the pain he was feeling transferred itself over to his Rider. Lakris murmured a spell, and the several of the wounds on Sylverta's body began closing up. Try not to get injured any more. That took a good bit of energy Lakris said over their connection, and Sylverta nodded, thanking his Bond. A screech from above caught his attention, and a bird began to peck at him. His scales sufficiently dulled the pain and penetration of the pecks to where they did little more than tickle Sylverta. Sylverta looked for Sarai, and found several glittering lights around the dragon. Oh no you don't! Sylverta shouted and breathed a torrent of fire in Sarai's direction. He swerved around the ice that the black and white dragon had shot from it's mouth. As the black and white dragon came back and made for Sylverta's other wing, Sylverta turned and slammed the blunt end of his tail into the dragon's side and followed with a tackle.
Freed growled as the pale icy dragon bit his wing, and Freed felt a burning feeling associated with the bite. Venom! he recognized. Freed dropped down from the dragon's tail and noticed with joy that the phoenix was still alive and ready to fight. He dropped back for a moment while the phoenix made to tackle the pale dragon, searching for an opportunity to strike.
Lakris sighed, panting slightly from having to heal Sylverta. He turned away from Suvana, planning to help his dragon in the struggle. However, a flicker of movement caught his eye, and he spun around sharply. Suvana was pulling herself up, exerting a large amount of effort to do so. Lakris grimaced, but then Suvana lifted her head to look him in the eye, and Lakris's eyes widened.
In replacement of Suvana's once yellow eyes were now a glowing shade of red. Lakris barely had time to pull a dagger from his person and block Suvana's blade. "I'm going to kill you, Lakris!" she shouted, shoving Lakris's dagger out of the way and stabbing the Shade through his stomach.
Lakris coughed up a small bit of blood, and Suvana followed with a swift uppercut to his jaw. She then slammed her palm into his chest and shot a large beam, throwing Lakris back twenty yards.

Re: Crossroads of Fate
Ecco snarled as the enemy dragon slammed his tail at her. She bent her body to go with the strike, but it still knocked the wind out of her, leaving her vulnerable to the red's subsequent tackle. She writhed away, slashing ferociously with her long claws and trying to cut him with her many sharp spines, but she still felt battered and clawed up, with a few larger cuts on her scales bleeding freely and a few very painful bruises which slowed her movement. Large wounds were dangerous, of course, but accumulating small wounds could end up being just as threatening. She backed away for a few moments, catching her breath and breathing out some more ice just in case. She couldn't afford too many wounds, so she decided to expend a little energy. She could use one spell in her dragon form: Ecco formed a layer of water vapor in places around her body, and froze it with shimmering magic into icy armor. The armor was just like normal metal because of the magic, and so couldn't melt or be chipped away like ice. That should help, she thought, charging back toward the red, claws ready to rip and tear.
Kalo glanced back toward the bird to see what it was doing, and then noticed that its body was now rippling with white flames. It surged toward him, crashing into his face. He recoiled, flinching away but knowing that the scales of his face had been singed. He had a small burn on his neck as well. The attack hadn't injured him badly, but he had been forced away from the white dragon and was now on his own. He growled at the bird and sent a thick barrage of ice breath toward it, flapping back toward the white dragon and hoping that his temporary lapse in attack had not given the white too great an advantage. Kalo somersaulted in the air as he reached the white, whipping his tail toward his opponent's chest and then flapping again to get higher and out of range of a counterattack. He sent some tarry breath at the bird then, in case it decided to attack him.

Re: Crossroads of Fate
Sarai looked up at Yssala and nodded acknowledgment. She stood still for the fearies to make it easier on them, but looked up with a jolt as she felt a fireball come barreling towards her. She tensed to move but her leg was still hindered by the wounds. She felt the heat of the fire licking at her scales, and she crouch into the ground, cringing...And then an enraged roar bellowed around her. Not my daughter, you worthless, hornless, traitorous worm! shrieked Johdzsia. More heat splashed just in front of her as her mother released River of Fire, blocking the fireball. Sarai got to her paws and limped back slowly, just in time for her mother to slam onto the ground.
- - - - - - - - - -
Jia straightened up to full height, glancing back to make sure her daughter was safe. She snarled at Sylverta, teal-green eyes blazing with maternal rage. I will destroy you for threatening my daughter. she said quietly, and a thunderous snarl ripped from between her teeth and vibrated the ground underneath her. Like a huge, lethal cat, she sprang at the male, jaws wide to clamp down on his neck. She spat a globule of fire into his side to distract him, and scored her talons down his shoulders. No one touched her daughter and got away with it.

Re: Crossroads of Fate
Valria felt the connection of the bronze dragon's cheek as she rammed right into it. She pushed away and felt the white fire grow stronger yet. As she circled around the dragon to get another head shot, a blast of ice shot at Valria. She veered just slightly to the left, enough to avoid most of the blow. However, the edge of the breath managed to clip part of her right wing tip, encasing it in ice. As Valria felt anger, her fire grew, and with that melted the ice. Another serge of white fire surrounded her, becoming stronger, as she flew straight towards the dragon once again. The bronze however had another breath to shoot at her to stall for time to reach for the white dragon. Valria managed to duck out of the way, and waited for the breath to disintergrate until she flew on for the attack once again. She hoped she wasn't too late to help the white dragon, the bronze seemed very intent on destroying the dragoness. Valria watched as the dragoness formed some kind of ice armor on her body, and she immediately charged, ready for battle. Valria flew down next to Yssala, who had her daggar held towards the dragon who threatened Sarai. She was illuminating with her white fire, as she hovered next to the dragoness who suddenly emerged, roaring like a feral jungle cat. She landed then next to Sarai, who seemed shaken up as twinkling lights surrounding her wounds. What are they? she wondered, then looking around to make sure no one was heading towards Sarai.
Yssala had began to run towards the dragon that tried to finish off Sarai, when a huge dragoness emerged from the trees, blocking the attack. She growled, and advanced. Apparently, this dragoness was Sarai's mother. At least they had someone else on their side. Yssala watched wtih dismay as the faeries were working restlessly to finish up the healing process. When Sarai moved back, the wound had reopened and it was taking longer than normal for the faeries to heal her hideous wounds. "Erithe lu waesa, just do what you can," she whispered to her little friends. She looked up and watched as Pheo was struggling to keep up his pecking attacks but the dragon's scales were inpenetrable. Instead, Pheo flew up and away, it seemed he was hoping for the dragon to be distracted as Pheo then flew in towards the dragon's eye.

Re: Crossroads of Fate
Sylverta puffed a plume of fire towards the bird that was flying towards his eye, and grimaced as the smaller black and white dragon conjured a shield of armor. He figured that he could still manage to beat her, but the dragon that had just arrived complicated things. He wouldn't be able to hold his own against the both of them for long. Sylverta immediately darted to the right to avoid the fire, and Sarai's mother's claws grazed his side, leaving shallow wounds. As the black and white dragon now covered in an icy armor charged him, he performed an aerial loop, landing behind the dragon. He flapped a few times to get above the dragon and slammed his weight against her, shredding his talons and slamming the horns on his head into the icy armor. Finally, he kicked away from the dragon and retreated several yards, glaring at both Jia and Ecco, ready to move at the slightest provocation.
Lakris blocked another jarring blow from Suvana and kicked his sister back, chancing a glance at the fight in the air. His dragon and Kalo were doing very good against so many opponents, but after all, there was only two of them. Lakris wanted to end this as quickly as possible.
Suvana jumped towards him, swinging her blade in a wide, overhand arc. Lakris blocked the blow, and Suvana slammed her fist against his jaw, causing him to stumble back a few feet. As she charged again, Lakris held her sword in a lock and threw her back with a strong but brief gust of wind. He followed by shooting a a bolt of lighting towards the ground, which arced from the ground and struck Suvana, throwing her back even further. Lakris turned sharply, pulling a throwing knife from his cloak and throwing it towards he woman who had been healing Sarai with deadly accuracy.

Re: Crossroads of Fate
Ecco managed to land a few scratches on the red dragon again but was knocked away by his more bulky body. She hit the ground hard and stood up quickly, feeling more bruised than ever. Another dragon had joined the fray, this one apparently the mother of Sarai. The red was fighting too many of them at once to be effective, and he probably knew it. Ecco let out another stream of ice and then swiped at his tail. She darted back out of range and got closer just a quickly, grabbing the tip of one of his wings with her jaws and yanking, hoping to rip up the membrane some more. She saw a knife heading towards Yssala out of the corner of her eye, and sent a powerful blast of ice towards it, knocking it out of the way. However, blocking the attack on the two-leg left her vulnerable.
Kalo darted towards the white dragon again, flapping to get above him and then slashing at his back with his long talons. He hissed grimly and then decided it was time to use more energy. He prepared his venom gland again and spat a different form of breath, this time an extremely corrosive acid, directly at the white dragon's wing membrane. With the already-cramped wing muscles, this attack might just get his opponent out of the air. However, using the energy forced Kalo to flap backwards and away from the white to catch his breath. Glancing down, he saw Sylverta facing several opponents at once. The white bird had now joined them. There was a new dragon as well, her scale color a mix of gold and amethyst. She resembled the younger dragoness in appearance and scent, and Kalo guessed her to be the younger one's mother. He dove at her from above, letting out a powerful blast of his tarry breath over her head and then darting away again.

Re: Crossroads of Fate
Jia glanced from one dragon to the other, the red to the pale silver and bronze. She bared her teeth and spat a shield of fire to counter his tarry breath. Her teal-green eyes were almost tangibly on fire, a rumbling growl vibrating her throat and the ground beneath her. She turned and sprang into the air after Kalo, though not without a last spit of fire toward Sylverta. She flapped her powerful wings and snarled angrily. Cowardly, hornless snake! Attacking a hatchling like that! She is a baby, our kin! Traitor! she hissed, and lunged forward, grabbing hold of his flanks with her talons. She wrenched him around, using their combined weight to whirl him around and to the ground. She pulled in her wings and dove after him, her eyes alight with maternal anger.
- - - - - - - - - -
Sarai winced and trembled, trying her best not to move but, being injured, she desperately want to be in the shelter of the trees, or better yet, snuggled close to her mother underneath her wing. She swallowed and held still, glancing back at the fearies. Her wounds didn't hurt as much, nearly not at all, which must mean they were almost done.

Re: Crossroads of Fate
Yssala had managed to barely escape death when a daggar shot at her that would have surely killed her had it not been for the dragoness with the icy breath. She managed to intake some breath, and quickly looked at the dragoness. "Thank you," she said meaningfully, before going after the man who threw it. "You're going to regret that," she growled, holding out her own dagger. Meanwhile, the faeries who were healing Sarai had completely finished, her wounds closed and clean. The faeries dispursed, trailing after Yssala in case she needed any more help. Pheo had turned and began his attack on the man who had threatened Yssala's life.
Valria managed to flap over towards Sarai, her white flame dying down. Are you going to be alright now? she wondered. Those were nasty wounds. She looked down towards where the previous tears in Sarai's body were and found them to be completely healed. Whatever those things were, faeries she assumed from what Yssala mentioned, their magic was powerful for something so small. We should probably get somewhere safe, in case you're still sore. I bet the battle's going to get wrapped up. After all, we are only up against three opponents. Your mother seems very intent on wreaking vengence on those that caused harm to you.

Re: Crossroads of Fate
"Says who, human?" Lakris replied calmly. He was disappointed that his dagger hadn't found its mark, courteous of the black and white dragon Sylverta was grappling with. A bird that he had previously seen attacking Sylverta was flying towards Lakris. He didn't have tough scales like Sylverta, so the bird's pecks would be more affective on him. If it managed to hit him, at least. Lakris pointed a palm towards the bird, and electricity cackled in his hand. It shot out as a bolt, and arced towards the bird. Knowing it would be difficult to hit it, he had added an arc to his lightning. He felt a drop in his energy from manipulating it, and he turned to face the woman running towards him.
Ha! You should tell your daughter to not run needlessly into battle. Neither I or Kalo wished to harm her, but she had foolishly intervened Sylverta retorted to the mother. Sylverta felt grateful that Kalo was dealing with an opponent. He was beginning to get overwhelmed at all of this. Sylverta met the stream of ice with a torrent of fire, and flicked his tail to the side to avoid the black and white dragon's swipe, though he was a little too late and it delivered a medium wound. Taking advantage of the black and white's momentary lack in defense from stopping the dagger, Sylverta flapped above her and slammed his weight against more. He was more bulky than her, and he would take advantage of that as well. He buffeted her with his wings before backing off and doing a flip, attempting to slam his tail down on her in the process. Freed flew low and under the dragon as it swiped at his back, but then he felt a slimy liquid interact with one of his wings. The effect was instantaneous as Freed roared in pain and crashed to the ground. The sticky acid burned his already-injured wings. Taking a moment to recover, Freed left the other dragon to deal with Kalo.
Suvana's eyes fluttered open as she felt an incredible decrease on her energy. She had landed on a bush, and she watched with surprise as Lakris began his attack on Yssala. Standing up determinedly, the red tint to her eyes was gone. Her Rage was unexpectedly short, but she could still do something. She weaved her hands through the air, and some form of language was being written in front of her. She was setting up Runes around Lakris, a trap.

Re: Crossroads of Fate
Kalo hissed as the smaller dragon's mother charged into him, her rage giving her great strength as she dug her claws into his flanks and heaved him back down. He flipped himself upright and landed on his feet, the landing heavy but the shock absorbed by the thick muscles in his limbs. He sprang backwards to avoid the dragoness and then leapt back into the air. I did not attack the hatchling; I am not a barbarian! he growled back at her, a little angry that she would think such a thing. Besides that, if she was really Shruikan's daughter, he knew he would be punished if harm befell her and the King found out somehow. Perhaps he could still capture her alive. The pale bronze spat more ice at the dragoness and then followed it up with a glob of thick sludge aimed precisely at the dragoness's face. He flapped a few times to get higher than her and then dove, preparing to grapple with the female.
Ecco hissed as the larger dragon slammed into her after she had helped Yssala, throwing her backwards. She managed to stay on her feet, but his immense wings began batting at her, causing her to shrink further back. She jumped to the side to avoid his thick tail and then leaped into the air, knowing she was not much of an opponent on the ground. She darted around to his other side and slashed briefly at his face with her claws before surging away again.

Re: Crossroads of Fate
Sarai let a shiver roll down her spine as the faeries finished healing her. She flexed her leg, wincing only slightly when the motion pulled on the skin that was not unprotected by scale. But otherwise the wound was completely healed with major scarring. She looked at the phoenix and nodded. Yes, I'll be fine. As for backing down, I don't think so. My pride won't allow it, and neither will my mother being in danger. If I can fight, then I will. she responded firmly to Yssala. She whipped her head around to Sylverta, baring her teeth at his retort to her mother. She snapped her jaws together angrily. If someone attacks Lakris, or someone else you care for, will you not leap forward to protect them? she snarled right back at him, lavender-flecked-with grey eyes glittering. She braced her legs and shook herself like a horse, then unfurled her wings to increase her visual size. She lowered her head and hissed at Sylverta. Come and get me, cowardly snake. Or will you turn and slither away, hissing only useless insults, like the lowly snake you are? she sniped, curling her upper lip up in a contemptuous sneer.
- - - - - - - - - -
Jia growled. Barbarian. Indeed. You are a barbarian for siding with that fell king on the throne. she retorted coldly, her teal-green eyes gleaming like ice chips. You know the ancient laws of dragonkind, they are seared into your very bones. Even if Shruikan had failed to teach them to you, you would know instinctively. Children are cherished by our kind, because we are so few, and you would dare think of hurting her, even if it were just a single scratch?! That red male maimed her almost to the point that she would be crippled had she not been healed! she snarled angrily. As she spoke she dodged his attacks easily, having had plenty of practice and training with her Rider. She anticipated his grappling maneuver (common sense) and barrel rolled hard to the right, letting him dive past her, then she pulled in her wings and plummeted into his back, forcing him toward the ground again. Her talons clenched into his shoulders and she shook him in her grip. I will never let my daughter be forced to be in Shruikan's shadow, used like a dog by that monstrosity that you call Master. she snapped, clenching her claws tighter into his flesh.

Re: Crossroads of Fate
Yssala hissed, "Says me, ure Ersaier!", an insult in the faerie language. She watched as Pheo managed to just barely miss the lighting bolt that was emitted towards him as he made a dive at the man, his talons scratching his scalp and his beak pecking wherever he managed to find soft flesh. Before he could do any real damage, Yssala called him off. "I'll deal with him alone, Pheo. My fight is with him." She glowered at him, putting her dagger away and calling the earth to her hands. "You should be careful with who you're messing with, I come from a long line of powerful mages. I have learned all four elements and can call them to my will." Rocks and sand began forming around her fists, forming clubs to float in mid-air. She swung at him with her earth-made clubs, aiming both low and high.
Valria opened her mind to protest but saw the determination in Sarai's sightless eyes. She brought forth her white fire once again, and nodded her head. Very well. Then I shall fight with you, she said decidedly, turning towards Sylverta. You and your rider, as well as the bronze dragon, have done nothing but harm the innocent. Your words mean nothing, they only resemble the darkness that surrounds you. If you mean to fight, then by all means, fight, she growled, flaring her wings out in challenge.

Re: Crossroads of Fate
Lakris was bent on ripping that bird apart, and likely would have done so had its owner not called it off. "Ancestry means nothing if you yourself are weak," Lakris retorted. He attempted to summon wind to blow off the clubs, but for some reason, the magic wasn't coming to him. Purple runes began flashing in a circular motion around Lakris, and the Shade's eyes widened in surprise. "Runes!" he recognized them and made to move out of their area, but the clubs got to him first. They slammed against him, sending him to the ground. He felt dazed and bruised. His hair was damp with some form of liquid: blood. He felt an odd disorienting feeling, but it seemed to dissipate and come back again occasionally. One of the clubs must have hit him by the head. Pulling himself up quickly, Lakris fumed with anger directed at both Suvana and Yssala.Suvana quickly joined next to Yssala. Let's send everything we got at him at once Suvana mentally contacted Yssala.
Sylverta laughed, a deep, echoing sound that caused the earth to vibrate softly. To Sarai, he replied You can fight for your friends; I don't care. However, the blame lies with you if you get hurt. I would have been content to just take the scrolls and go, but then you all had to join, and it turned into a battle. To Valria, he snorted with amusement and slight irritation. Harm the innocent? You all took it upon yourselves to attack us, and thus start the conflict. Don't speak of matters that you don't understand, phoenix Sylverta murmured. He was weary of the phoenix's abilities. Was it immortal? Could it not die? No, how about you test your luck and come up here? Surely a dragon must be able to fly, no matter how blind he or she is Sylverta taunted to Sarai.

Re: Crossroads of Fate
Kalo had to take a deep breath to calm himself. He was letting himself get too emotionally invested in this, and that was wrong. He had to betray nothing; show nothing. This dragoness was simply wrong. He would not harm the innocent, and the King was only trying to bring peace to the realm. The fact that she did not see that was not his problem. He let her grab his shoulders from behind and folded his wings, letting them both plummet and writhing his back. He had long, razor-sharp spikes along his spine, and his shoulders bristled with more of them, so let her deal with that. He used his larger size to roll until she was under him just before they hit the ground, and he arched his back. It made the jolt of hitting the ground harder but it would also drive his back spikes into her. Kalo rolled away from his opponent immediately, breathing a thick stream of ice at her face as he backed away. She seemed young, much younger than him, and he doubted anything she possessed could beat over three decades of constant battle training. He would no longer waste his concentration on speaking, no matter what Jia or Valria said about him.
Ecco decided to try a new tactic in fighting Sylverta. He was too large for even her extremely long claws and teeth to do much damage. She darted in front of his face, prepared for something else. She would have to limit herself since her allies were also attacking the red, but she knew her attack would stun him if not cause some hearing damage. She drew in a deep breath and let out a powerful pulse of sound, ripping through the air and blasting into Sylverta. It wasn't strong enough to cause severe damage or cause him to lose consciousness (as she didn't want to hurt someone else by mistake), but it would accomplish something.

Re: Crossroads of Fate
Jia opened her jaws and roared as he twisted around and forced her to slam into the earth first. She snarled as his spikes pierced her belly, feeling the hot blood dripping over her side and to the ground. It hurt. Bad. But she had felt much worse than this in her time at Uru'baen. This had nothing on that. She twisted to her feet, countering his ice stream with a blast of fire from one of her Seals. She peeled back her lips, showing her fangs. You know, I've had the personal pleasure of meeting the King. At least twice. she said no more, but she felt her blood boil at the memory, and the fire of hatred burned in her eyes. She didn't really care about her own torture, from then. It was Ka that really put her tail in a twist and made her want to rip Galbatorix into tiny little pieces. Her tail whistled from side to side and she crouched, ready to spring or move in any direction. You have thus far avoided direct combat. You fight like an assassin, a snake; darting in and then retreating. Fight me like a dragon, as our ancestors have for centuries! she hissed, and snapped her jaws together.
- - - - - - - -
Sarai grinned, malice glittering in her sightless eyes. She crouched and flared her wings, then blasted into the air after Sylverta. She preferred to stay on the ground. but she could fly as well as any dragon could. Possibly better, because of her abnormal strength. She opened her mind to sense her surroundings, like Jia had said her brother did. She flicked her wings and soared above Sylverta, roaring a challenge to him in the Draconic Tongue before pulling in her wings and diving at him from above. I'll show you how blind I am. she hissed, and slammed into his shoulder with her entire weight. She felt a sick crunch underneath her, meaning she must have broken something in her landing. Whether it was from her or Sylverta, she didn't wait to find out. She slapped her tail into his neck, thudding the spikes deep into his flesh, and then ripping her tail from side to side in a jagged line until it tore free on its own.

Re: Crossroads of Fate
Valria let out an irratated screech at Sylverta. You were the ones who attacked us not the other way around! Do not turn this around on me, I could clearly see what the intent was when you approached. I think that accounts us as innocent! She was tired of his mind games. Though I know not what powers I hold within me, I will be sure to make it clear to you that you have no right to carry on your intents! She followed after Sarai, hearing a loud crack, indication that something must have broken. Once Sarai was out of the way, Valria barrled into the dragon's side while still ingulfed in her white flames. The damage done to the dragon was that of his wounds setting ablaze instead of his whole body.
Yssala took a few paces back, her clubs in front of her. She was glad that her attack was able to buy her some time for her next attack. Though as her mind spun quickly, Suvana jumped in next to her, mentally contacting her of partnering up to take care of Larkis. Yssala's nod was brief, hardly even noticable. After you then, she replied darkly, her glower still holding steady on Larkis.

Re: Crossroads of Fate
Sighing, Sylverta put forth all of his focus into the fight instead of conversing with fools. A large crack! popped, but he instead of focusing on it, he turned his head and sunk his jaws into Sarai's tail. A small flash of pain flickered as he did so, and he realized that a bone in his shoulder might be out of place. He twisted his head sharply, throwing Sarai off, before he barrel-rolled away from the phoenix's flaming body. He followed by slamming his tail towards the phoenix as it went by. Flames flickered from the phoenix's searing body, grazing an injury on his underbelly and causing it to burn savagely.Suvana nodded before closing her eyes for the briefest of moments. She extended both of her palms towards Lakris, and almost immediately, an extremely large beam shot out at the speed of a bullet. It was nearly a hundred and fifty feet wide, and as it shot towards Lakris, the Shade's eyes widened. He threw up a shield as quickly as he could, but the beam blasted through it with ease.
It struck with an explosion, throwing dust and dirt into the air. When it cleared slightly, Suvana gasped. A large crater, descending into an indefinite chasm, covered the area where Lakris had previously been. However, as more of the smoke cleared, Lakris was seen nearly two-hundred feet away from his previous spot. He was panting, and a blistering burn covered the left side of his body. He gazed at his hands; he wasn't even supposed to be alive. How did he avoid it?
Suvana collapsed to the ground, almost thoroughly drained of energy. She glanced fiercely at Yssala. "Finish it!" she shouted.
Lakris fell to his knees. He was close to being drained of energy, and Yssala had yet to make her move. He also hadn't retrieved the scrolls yet. With a willing determination, he pushed himself to his feet, withdrawing enough energy from his ring so that his body wasn't shaking. He had been sent here to do a mission, and damn well he'd do it.
"No...it's my turn now," Lakris grimaced, pointing a hand towards Yssala's and Suvana's general direction. A circle, illuminated red, appeared in front of Lakris. Ancient writing was written all throughout the circle. A red ball of energy formed in front of the circle, and it gradually grew larger as Lakris's energy, energy from his ring, and excess energy in the very air was gathered - concentrated - into a single orb of energy.
It grew to be large, larger than Sylverta's head, and it still continued to grow. When it was as large as Sylverta's body, it ceased to grow. "Amaterasu Formula 100: Permanent Immolation," Lakris murmured, and it shot. The large circle had converged into an even larger, nearly three-hundred feet wide beam that shot out towards Suvana and Yssala. It would be impossible to dodge for someone drained of energy. Freed's eyes widened as a massive beam of energy shot towards his Bond. He immediately flew to her aid, fueling her with energy as he did so, but the closer he got, the more miserable he felt. He wouldn't be able to intercept it, but he hoped against all odds that Suvana would somehow evade it.OOC: Astral, don't get Yssala to save Suvana. Suvana's goin' to die...

Re: Crossroads of Fate
Kalo watched Jia as she got upright again, suspicious. Her fire had been more than normal, and had cancelled out his ice breath. He lashed his tail as she accused him of fighting like a snake. If it worked, it worked. It did not matter as long as he prevailed against the enemies of the King. He wondered why Jia had such apparent rage against Galbatorix, but didn't think long on it. He spat more tarry breath at her and then plowed into her, using his superior weight to knock her over. Before he could continue the attack something crashed into his side, sending him away in a roll. He got back on his feet immediately and saw the black and white dragon standing at Jia's side, deep indigo eyes blazing. Kalo started to summon more acidic breath in anger but paused, something stirring deep within his memory.
Ecco slashed once more at Sylverta's wings as he dodged Valria's attack, but flapped away when she noticed the new dragon, Sarai's mother Jia, fighting the pale bronze and silver. The larger dragon knocked her to the ground and Ecco growled angrily. Her body was about the same size as the bronzes', but she had greater length in the neck, tail, and wings. She surged towards him, hurling herself into his side while he was distracted and sending him tumbling away. She had knocked herself off her feet but picked herself back up immediately, sharp claws digging into the ground as she stood next to Jia. Try fighting us both, coward! she hissed. She saw him tense, ready to strike, but then pause, confusion in his eyes. What was wrong with him? Why did he not attack? Before she could say something, a loud noise registered in her brain, and she twisted her head around in time to see an enormous ball of energy head straight for Suvana and Yssala.

Re: Crossroads of Fate
Jia spat another bit of far to ward of the tar that he sent her way, and she was taken by surprise when he tackled her directly. She rolled with him to alleviate damage done to herself, but she still got some scrapes and bruises on her flanks, and her wings felt a bit sore as well, though she was able to deal some damage of her own with her talons to his chest. She vaulted back onto her paws the moment that his weight disappeared, hissing her rage at him. Her scales bristled, but she paused when she saw his eyes fog over with confusion. She tensed to spring at him, then stopped and turned, her eyes already widening in horror. She saw the energy as it surged toward Yssala and the other twoleg, the bonded one. She knew, even if she Changed to her Reapric form...She would still be too late to stop it. Distress at this shot through her. No! she cried, roaring her anguish aloud in a mournful bellow.
- - - - - - - - - -
Sarai tumbled head over tail downwards to the ground, but she flared her wings and flapped them powerfully to lift herself back up again. You'll not get away so easily this time. she growled to herself. Her tail hurt from his bite, but she ignored it. While he was distracted with Valria, she shot above him with strong beats of her wings, going higher and higher, and then turning and folding her wings to plummet straight down. She narrowed her eyes against the wind, though the tears that swelled from them did nothing to impede her vision; she was already blind. When she was close, she roared loudly, then slammed into his back with the force of a fully grown dragon. She locked her talons into his flesh, digging the tips in so that she could keep her balance. Is that the best you can do? Honestly? I'm not even having fun yet. she snarled in a low, dark voice. To those that had ever heard Shruikan speak, she would sound ominously like him.

Re: Crossroads of Fate
OOC: What??!! Aww...that totally goes against my instincts to save someone...gah this is soooo hard... Oh well, epic and drama does make a story I suppose lol IC: Valria flew upward as Sylverta threw his tail toward her. However, she wasn't able to avoid it. His muscular tail flung her across the clearing, sailing past Sarai. Her flame was extinguished. Valria hit the ground, hard, dust floating around her in clouds. Without warning, the ground began to shake, a cataclysm opening around her. She shook off her daze and got up to fly away. When she looked back, Valria was shocked at the events that were unfolding below. Yssala was infuriated by Larkis, that he wouldn't be done after Suvana delivered such a powerful blow. Though as the Earth around them opened, Yssala was seperated from Suvana by the crevis. She surrounded her arms in a rock-like armor and ran towards Larkis. Just as she was about to finish it off, Larkis shot a surge of energy towards them both. Yssala, with every fiber of her being, wanted to jump over the crevas but it was too wide for her to do so. She had only moments but finally managed to jump out of the way. Tears streamed down her face, as she yelled over the roar of the energy her sincere apology.

Re: Crossroads of Fate
OOC: Be strong, Astral. Indeed it does. IC: Sylverta roared angrily when Sarai slammed her body against him, knocking him nearly towards the ground. She used her talons to balance herself on his back. Get. Off. My. Back! Sylverta roared again, spinning through the air. He slammed his back into the tough bark of a nearby tree, and did so again. He didn't care about the phoenix or any other dragon or shapeshifter. He was getting sick and tired of giving this dragon a 'piggyback ride'. To ensure that Sarai wouldn't be able to hold on, he flew sideways towards a tree. When he neared it, he shifted a bit so that anything on his back would be hit by the tree and thrown off. Suvana couldn't think of what to do. On pure instinct, she mustered all of her energy and threw up the most powerful shield she could manage at the time. Suddenly, a blindingly white light obscured her entire vision, rendering her unable to see. Her skin felt like it was disintegrating under the intense heat of her brother's blast. Just as suddenly, however, it was all over. She couldn't think anymore. The previous blinding light had screwed with her eyesight, so even now, she couldn't see much. Whatever she would be able to see was now only, curiously, black spots. Then, she was falling. She knew that, above, her dragon, friends, and brother remained. Below, however, was only a perpetual black pit. With a shuttering finality, her eyes blinked slowly, and her vision flickered. She closed her eyes without another thought as she felt an overwhelming desire to sleep overcome her.
Freed's eyes widened. With a heart-wrenching tug, an entire half of his mind instantaneously disappeared. He shook violently, shaking his head in frustration. No...NO! he shouted. What had just happened? He felt so out of place; like he was taken from Alagaesia and placed into a completely different dimension. He glanced around furiously. Who were these beings around him? More importantly, a single image remained in the remaining half of his mind. Of a beautiful girl with scarlet red hair. Why was she all he could think about? His eyes furrowed dangerously. That was it! These beings around him must have killed her! Whoever she was, she was important to him, and they had taken her from him! Freed roared and immediately dove at a red dragon.Lakris panted heavily. Suvana had thrown up a shield at the last minute, so her body hadn't disintegrated from the blast. However, she had still been severely injured and burned. What used to be the brown ground and emerald green grass was now a black pit, descending into indefinite depths. Suvana's body had disappeared inside of it, and Lakris sighed in relief. Yet, what was this other feeling he felt? He almost felt...stupid, for murdering Suvana. Why, though? She wasn't anything to him. He had broken all of his bonds to her a long time ago. But...he couldn't help but feel regretful. Guilty, even. An unfamiliar roar drew his attention overhead, and his eyes widened when he glanced at Suvana's dragon. He had forgotten all about the white dragon! Freed immediately made for Sylverta. Lakris tried to warn Sylverta, but he was too weak to even shout. He was completely depleted of energy. He was helpless.
Sylverta growled when his Rider's sister's dragon made for him. He flapped his wings to gain altitude, but the white was closing in too fast. Freed slammed his entire bulk against Sylverta, slamming the dragon against the ground. Freed jumped into the air, and a massive, blinding white ball of fire formed inbetween his jaws. It grew quickly, and he fired it at Sylverta. Sylverta countered with his own torrent of fire, but it was quickly surmounted by the larger ball of fire. The mass of fire hit his body, the flames consuming him whole. Sylverta roared in pain; that wasn't ordinary dragon fire. It must have been influenced by wild magic, which, in turn, was influenced by Freed's wild emotions. Freed dove for Sylverta a final time, obviously about to end it. Kalo... Sylverta called towards the icy white dragon weakly.OOC: draco, you haz permission to kill Freed.

Re: Crossroads of Fate
OOC: Oo, fun fun. Yet sad. Goodbye, charries. IC: Ecco couldn't help but watch, frozen with horror, as the intense wave of magical energy swept over Suvana. When the blinding flash of light cleared, she was gone. Completely gone. Her mind and body had just disappeared. No! the dragoness cried, unable to think of anything else. She wrenched the front half of her body in the direction of the newly formed crater in the earth, still stunned. Suddenly she noticed Freed diving for Sylverta, his eyes murderous. She made to help the white, but was interrupted by a powerful blast of ice that completely blanketed her field of vision. Being a descendent of water and ice dragons, it did not harm Ecco, but when it cleared she saw a blur of bronze and silver arcing into the air.Kalo watched the death of Suvana along with the others, but he was still more stunned by the black and white dragon. She looked so familiar... but Galbatorix had told him his sister was dead... was this some trick? Sensing the abrupt fight between Freed and Sylverta brought him out of his stunned silence. He heard Sylverta's call as Freed dove for the red, and immediately blasted an immense cloud of ice and snow over the two dragonesses to keep them from interfering. In less than a second he launched himself into the air, his body a blur as he put all of his powerful muscles to work. He saw the opportunity. Now he was nothing but a pure assassin. He could see the way to his goal; he could picture in his mind exactly how he would kill the dragon--time was his.
Kalo hit Freed at an angle, sending them into a spinning move at which he was very well-practiced. He wrapped his neck around the larger dragon's, his jaws moving straight at their target. With shocking swiftness his teeth sank into the throat of his enemy, digging deep and slicing back. He let go of Freed as soon as they hit the ground about a dragonlength from Sylverta. The impact was hard, but Kalo had prepared as soon as he left the ground. The enemy dragon stopped as soon as they hit, but Kalo kept rolling away, eventually leaping back up into a battle stance and breathing heavily, jaws dripping with blood.

Re: Crossroads of Fate
Jia keened a mourning as she felt the female Rider pass into the Void. She looked up and her eyes widened as she saw the white dragon, who must have been the bonded dragon of the Rider. The fury she saw in his eyes was breathtaking. She cried out as ice abruptly blocked her vision, and she took several steps back, pawing at her eyes to clear her sight. When she looked, it was too late. The white male was attacked by the pale silver-bronze. She saw the blood that dripped from Kalo's teeth, the slash in the white's throat. The protest escaped her without a thought. NO! she lifted her wings from her back and sprang forward to Kalo, teal-green eyes blazing with a fury of her own. You would kill one of your own kin?! You are no better than a rapid dog that needs to be put down! she shrieked, and her gold-amethyst scales pulsated with light and magic. Over the past months, and especially since she had bonded with Ka, and also had a daughter, she had gotten a bit of control over the spats of rage fueled magic that she had. She used it now. She sent magic pummeling into Kalo's chest to knock him back, away from the rest of the group, then turned her gaze to Sylverta and Lakris. She glanced to the side as she heard a familiar voice; her daughter. Momma, keep them away from Freed's body! Protect his saddlebags! cried the black-gold hatchling, before she was forced to limp to a stop. Jia looked over Sarai carefully. One wing was bent a bit awkwardly near the shoulder joint, and her left foreleg looked twisted, but otherwise she seemed fine. The gold-amethyst nodded then turned to Freed, who must be the dragon that Kalo had attacked. She sprang forward and landed near the white, positioning herself close to his saddlebags to protect whatever was so important inside them. She didn't have time to see if Freed was still alive, although a part of her hoped so. She snarled at Lakris and Sylverta, while her daughter scampered forward, despite her injures, and faced Kalo's direction. I dare you to come closer. I dare you. she said darkly, and magic crackled along her glowing gold-amethyst body.

Re: Crossroads of Fate
OOC: Aaa sorry didn't know >.> I've been getting into horrible habits of checking things and not getting back to it. Thank you for the summon Draco, I shall continue! IC: Valria was watching wth horror at the massacre that played below her. White flames engulfed her as she targeted Kalo, planning on attacking him with any force that was left in her. No creature should be left alive after what he had done to Freed, he had no excuse whatsoever. She felt a rage build within her, something she had never felt before, a hatred. Val disliked it but at the same time felt pleasure as it fueled her power. She aimed for him head, at blinding speed.Yssala could not stop the tears streaming down her face. Suvana had died, and so had Freed. It was unforgving, unmerciful, and unneeded. Yssala knew that Suvana and Freed would not die in vain. She would make sure that there would be no way her power would be held back. She ran around Jia and swiped the straps around Freed, her Earth powers immediately came forth to provide a shield. If anything, Yssala would make sure whatever Freed died protecting would stay that way. She stood next to Jia, a look of determination in her blazing eyes. "I fight with you, to protect the secrets."

Re: Crossroads of Fate
Sylverta leaned against a tree, panting profusely. A simmering burn covered most of his body, causing it to simmer slightly. He had a small amount of energy left, but he knew that fighting any further would be futile. He would give Lakris some of his energy and keep enough for the remaining flight to Uru'baen.
Lakris mentally thanked his dragon as he felt some energy return to him. It wasn't much-barely enough to stand, but when coupled with the rest of his energy from his ring, he would be able to fight again. Yet, he was hesitant to use the energy from his ring. He had been storing that steadily for over twenty years now, and to use it all at once. . .ah, like it mattered. He came all this way for the scrolls, and he'd be getting them no matter what. Lakris withdrew the rest of his energy from his ring and stood up slowly, glowering at Yssala. "Give me the scrolls, and you won't meet the same fate as my unfortunate sister did," Lakris murmured.

Re: Crossroads of Fate
Kalo took the magical blow straight to the chest and put all of his focus into staying on his feet. He stumbled back a few steps, feeling rather bruised, but otherwise still able to fight. However, the blow almost made him unaware of the phoenixes' attack from above. He jerked his head to the side just in time to avoid the force of the blow, though he still felt the scales on the side of his face singe, and his left eye was temporarily blinded by the piercing light. He quickly let out a powerful blast of ice shards at the phoenix, backing away from her as he did and also shifting to face the dragonesses, who were standing guard over Freed. The human female was closest to his saddlebags, magic whipping wildly around her. The gold-amethyst dragoness and her daughter had looks of pure hatred on their faces, and the elder shouted a warning at him. Kalo glanced briefly to the ground. It wasn't as if he enjoyed killing other dragons. The white had been his enemy; the enemy of his King. What he had done had been necessary. He watched as Lakris advanced on the group, offering to take the scrolls without a fight. I would do as he says. You are all already weakened, and you would lose a fight. No more blood needs to be shed, the pale dragon warned, eyeing each of their opponents in case they attacked him again.
Ecco tried to rush forward to stop the pale bronze dragon, but it was already too late. He was too fast, and it seemed he was in the air and back on the ground in seconds. She saw the blood dripping from his jaws, and saw Freed's torn out throat, and knew it was far too late. This dragon was a trained assassin; a killer. She growled as Jia, Sarai, and Yssala all got in fighting stances over Freed, and beckoned at Valria to join them. They would need to work as a team to defend what Suvana and Freed had died protecting. She hissed at the enemy rider when he spoke, baring her extremely long, needle-sharp teeth. Do you think we will forsake their memories so soon? You won't lay a hand on these scrolls, she spat, raising her wings from her back and breathing a column of snow at the rider and the pale bronze dragon. It was more of a threat than an attack, though, for it wouldn't cause real damage. As she did, she felt a mental presence brush against hers. Flinching, her gaze darted back to the bronze, for it was he who was trying to contact her.
Kalo knew for certain it was her, now. Her appearance and the fact that she was another water and ice dragon had been clues... but hearing her voice clearly made him sure. It was Ecco. His sister was alive. Kalo let her snow blow over him, the cool icy air reminding him of his egg dreams. He glanced between all the others assembled, mind reeling in confusion. The only thing he could think to do was extend his mind tentatively towards hers, waiting to catch her deep blue gaze with his icy indigo one.

Re: Crossroads of Fate
Jia's snarl was deep and thunderous in agreement with Yssala and Ecco. We would never slander their names so shortly after their demise. If you believe such hyperbole then you are insane. she hissed, her teal-green eyes flashing like strobes. Sarai snapped her jaws together at her side, though the black-gold didn't speak. The gold-amethyst glanced at the saddlebags, wondering what 'scrolls' the male Rider was talking about. She looked up at Kalo, then paused. He had a slightly distant look in his eyes, even though he still looked and acted alert, almost like he was communicating mentally. She glanced around, and noticed that Ecco had the same sort of expression on her face as well. She paused when she felt a familiar presence nearby, lifting her head slightly and tilting it. Her eyes widened and she turned her gaze to watch a figure that approached. Was that who she thought it was? She squinted to see better. Damn. It was. She turned back to the three enemies and couldn't help smirking a tiny bit.
- - - - - - - - - -
Jessa strolled closer to the group, having sensed one person that she knew. Although only one, and that surprised her. She'd thought that she would have felt the other one as well, but she only sensed the one. Jia. But not her brother, Ka, who was bonded to Jia. She did, however, feel someone that felt similar to Jia in some ways, but different than others. She had hid her horse a few meters away where, hopefully, the mare would be safe. Jessa stopped when she was within speaking distance of the group,"What's going on here, pray tell?" she asked quietly, her blue-grey eyes flicking first from Jia, then to the dead dragon that the gold-amethyst was standing over, then the ice-pale-bronze male and the twoleg, as well as the second dragon she sensed in the wooded area. She eyed the black-gold hatchling, but since the little one was standing over the dead dragon also, she decided that she was also on the good side. The female Reaper glowered at the male dragon and the twoleg,"Giving my family some hardships are you? Why don't you both run along before I kick both your butts back to Uru'baen, tail in your case," she added toward the ice-pale-bronze, and also the one in the trees even though she couldn't see it,"but you get my meaning, correct? I am completely fresh while you are a bit worn out from fighting my friends here." she said, crossing her arms over her chest. Unlike usual, there was no playful tone in her voice and mischievous glitter in her eyes. She didn't like it when those that she considered family was attacked.

Re: Crossroads of Fate
Valria had just barely missed the dragon as he pulled away as she dove. She pulled up from the ground before she slammed into it. The dragon had fired icicles that she dodged neatly, though one of them had managed to clip her shoulder. Wincing, she turned back in midair, making sure the dragon hadn't decided to hurl any more ice towards her. Valria surveyed the scene. It appeared that Ecco wanted her to join Yssala, Jia, and Sarai as they were wearing out of strength. She hovered over them and Freed's body, buring brightly with her white fire. She wasn't sure what was going on with the white dragon's mind but it was obviously elsewhere even though he tried to make it appear he was keeping alert. She tensed, waited, for one of them to make the first move.
Yssala clutched the straps tighter as she strung them onto her back. She glared at the human around her earth sheild, taking a stance in her definance. "That will not come to pass," she hissed. "I had not known her long, but I will make sure Suvana had not died in vain. I will fight to keep these scrolls." She looked around at her friends who were willing to fight as well, death in their gaze for the pair. "We won't stand down." Another presence appeared, a woman, appearing just as angry as she was feeling. Her family...she must have meant Jia from the way she smiled at the dragoness. She turned to the pair and smiled coldly. "Are you willing to fight another enemy, one who is at full strength?"

Re: Crossroads of Fate
OOC: Not really trying to turn this into an all-out war, but I'm going to add in one more charry, if that's alright with everyone else.
IC: Lakris grimaced as another appeared, taking sides with the opponent. Figures, that's all these "good guys" were good for anyway. Taking sides with their family and friends even when they don't know the full story of what happened. Suvana stole from the Empire, and thus she should be punished. This group tried to protect her, and currently is trying to protect the scrolls! Why couldn't they see that it wasn't his fault? Or so he told himself, yet he felt. . .disgusted with himself. He had murdered his own sister in cold blood, and he didn't even give a damn! No, she was the enemy. She was a victim of war; someone on the other side. . .This inner turmoil caused Lakris to grit his teeth in frustration.
At their refusal to hand over the scrolls, Lakris snarled. "Fine! Protect the scrolls, protect my dead sister's good name, I don't care! Those scrolls are the Empire's rightfully, and we will bring them back," Lakris growled. Lakris placed his hands so that his palms were facing each other. Lightning crackled in-between them and charged up for a few moments. Then, without warning, it shot towards the newcomer with deadly accuracy. Lakris felt another mind approaching, one that felt familiar, but it was too closed off to be sure of its origins. Lakris cursed mentally: if this were another enemy, he, Kalo, and Sylverta would definitely have to retreat.
Salzarar ran at an inhuman speed towards where he could faintly sense the minds of those allied with the Empire. Lakris was supposed to contact Galbatorix when he had located the thief. The fact that he hadn't must have meant that he and Kalo had run into trouble. Kalo...and Sylverta... Salzarar wasn't too keen on helping dragons at all, but Kalo and Sylverta were dragons that he could respect. They had power and they weren't arrogant like the majority of their race. That was the only reason why helping them didn't sicken his stomach.
He began to grow restless. With every passing second, they could be closer to the verge of death. Lakris, Sylverta, and Kalo were all strong, but he sensed multiple other minds, none of which that he recognized. Worst case scenario: all the other minds were those of the enemy. Salzarar didn't want that to be the case, but if it were, it mattered little. Galbatorix had given Salzarar an emergency supply of energy in case Sylverta and Kalo needed to make a quick flight back to Uru'baen once they obtained the scrolls.
Salzarar gripped the hilt of his greatsword and drew it. They were getting close now. He was almost there!
