Post Terrible event that almost killed everybody?
Anybody think they know what it could be? I think it was the Grey Folk who did it, but correct me if im wrong about that. It might be someone who found out about how you can take energy from living things to cast a spell. they might have taken a ton of energy from a ton of people, then tried to do a really complex spell. That spell may have even been the scrying the past thing that the elves tried, but the group of elves who tried died. I might be completely wrong, it might never even be mentioned again in the books. What do you guys think it could be?

I say it was when someone tried to resurrect a person, so they took energy from all around them including the people.

Yeah, but thats impossible, right? And it would have taken all of the energy, so they WOULD have all died. Unless they were stupid, i dont think they would have tried that. The only way that all of them wouldnt have died was if he diconnected the energy flow, and let him/herself be killed.

Which is what they would have done at the end, seeing that they couldn't complete the spell. If you lost someone before their time you would be just as sad and asked if anything could have been done to save them. Magic was there and at that time it probably seemed like it could do anything, so they would have tried.

As Brom told Eragon, magic at that time was everywhere and permeated (Was inside of) everything. Which meant that the person could get energy from wherever they wanted.

Yeah, but how would they have located every single living being inj alagaesia? And why would he bother using energy from say, insects when so little could be obtained? This leads me to think that it likely could have been something like a natural disaster. It possibly could have changed the air or something so no one ccould breath.(Just a thought)
