Post Ezra
Name: Ezra

Age: 22

Gender: Female

Race: Islingr (light-bringer, or illuminator). There are few of them left and it's rare to find even the slightest mention of an illuminator in texts. They typically live two to three times longer than most humans (so in their mid-200's), and age very slowly.

Skills:
Magic/Light - Being an illuminator, manipulating light is natural for Ezra. From creating a small light in the palm of her hand to improve vision, to creating hot, blinding flashes of light. However, an illuminator's light is much different from light produced by the Ancient Language (Garjzla, for example), in that it cannot be extinguished in the presence of darkness. A master illuminator was said to have the power to cast away even the darkest of beings. Illuminators are natural-born shade-hunters. They can sense the presence of a shade and are highly adept at fighting the accursed beings. Some of the strongest illuminators could convert their own bodies into light, allowing them to travel at insane speeds. Ezra has just finished her basic training, so she's nowhere near this level of proficiency yet. The manipulation of light requires far less energy for an illuminator to accomplish than it would for any other race. Ezra has only had the time to memorize a few words in the Ancient Language since she's spent most of her available time training.

Mental Training - She is highly skilled in hiding specific details in her mind from others, and even planting false memories in her own mind to fool those searching it. She is skilled in such an ability because her master thought that she might need it in case anyone ever got suspicious. And it was a good thing he did, for it came in extremely beneficial use when some of Galbatorix's magicians searched her mind. Within the last couple of years, she has become skilled enough in this ability to even plant false memories in someone else's mind. However, the person's mind must have sufficiently weak barriers for Ezra to be able to do so. And the person, no matter under what circumstances, cannot be a dragon or an elf, because their minds are far too foreign and dangerous for Ezra to do so.

Archery/Physical - On her right left is a series of symbols. To activate the symbols, she conjures a small ball of light in her index finger on her right hand, then runs it along the symbols. A bow entirely compressed of light forms in her hands. She is highly skilled in archery, and because she can conjure a bow and the arrows required, she doesn't have to carry one on her person. She can control her arrows somewhat, allowing them to drift towards a different direction in their flight. Typically, the arrows will explode with a bright light on impact. She can sharpen their point, however, allowing them to pierce instead of explode on contact. The symbols are etched on an illuminator's wrist when that illuminator has completed their basic training. Ezra has a short sword sheathed at her waist that she is moderately skilled with, but nowhere near as skilled as she is in archery.

Hair: A golden yellow

Eyes: Brown

Home Village: Kuasta

Parents: Marianne (mother), and Xephus (father; deceased)

Siblings: None

Character Personality: Ezra has a bright and kind personality. She is always out to help others in need and usually doesn't agree in killing, marking her as someone who detests war. Despite this, she has no internal trouble killing shades, for only an evil spirit would seek inhabitance over a mortal's body. Ezra is easy to get along with because she hardly ever harbors feelings of hostility towards someone, and even then it's a long way from being considered a grudge. She's naturally cheery and upbeat. She takes her work seriously, however, so she doesn't play around when fighting enemy shades. Because she is extremely cheery and optimistic, people usually underestimate her intelligence. However, she is very smart. When she was studying under an istlingr master, she took her studies very seriously, and is quite a bookworm even. She is very keen on giving people second chances as long as they are in a more controlled environment during their second chance. She tries her hardest to treat all life forms with equal kindness, but finds the task slightly hard when conversing with an urgal. Ezra loves animals and strongly disbelieves in mistreating an one.

Character History: Ezra was born in Kuasta during the war, and as such, remained a secret to those outside of her family and some illuminators. Nearly everything about her life has remained a secret; she couldn't even speak to someone else unless her parents or master had the utmost of trust in that person. Thus, she didn't grow up with very many friends. Since she was stuck inside most of the time, she focused mainly on honing her powers in the hopes that, one day, she would be able to use them freely.

However, it was easier said than done to keep her powers a secret. One day, Ezra had let her emotions run amuck. Some kids were pushing her around, making fun of her for being an introvert, and she became increasingly angered. As her anger reached its peak, light began to exert itself from her body. Finally, the energy began to affect the surrounding streetlights. They shattered from the intensity of the light, the shards of which piercing a few of the children. Their injuries weren't anything severe, but it did cause quite some bleeding. Disgusted with what she did, Ezra went to her mentor. Deciding that time was of the essence for Ezra to master her powers, he began to tutor her more vigorously.

For the next several years, her training seemed to be going by without a hitch. She began to gain more control of her emotions, and learned to keep control of her powers even when her emotions spiraled out of control. She continued to get stronger with the hope that Galbatorix would be dethroned sometime in the next century, so that she might practice her powers without fear. Fortunately, his dethroning came much sooner than that of a century. In fact, it came only a couple of years later. Ecstatic at the news, Ezra was highly depressed when she learned that her master had fallen ill. In fact, he even told her that he was dying. In his final moments, he imparted some information to her:

"Young Ezra, my time is coming to an end," her master whispered to her gravely.

"No! We can find some healers. . .They can help you--heal you, even!" Ezra stuttered in response.

Master chuckled, his voice growing raspy. "Even the best of healers cannot heal the wounds of time, Ezra. I'm growing too old for this land."

Ezra's eyes widened. What? He was getting too old? But he was only a hundred-and-twenty-five! While old for a human, that's still young for an istlingr! "B-But Master, you're so young," she muttered in response.

Again he chuckled. "Ezra, in a few months from now, I would be celebrating my two-hundred-and-thirty-second birthday. I lied about my age to keep you focused on your studies, and not on my health. I was born before the Fall, and I survived it, keeping my identity hidden in the hope that I could find a survivor of our ancient race."

Ezra was too shocked to reply for a few moments. She rested a palm on her master's sweating forehead. "But Master, I need your tutelage!" she persisted.

"Unfortunately, life won't allow me to tutor you any more. However, all is not lost. There are things that I can't teach you--things that you must learn yourself. Those things are all that's left for you to learn now. It will be a grave journey, Ezra. Will you accept it?" he asked.

Ezra could hardly believe that Master was dying, much less believe that she had to continue training even after his death. Even so, this was his dying wish, and she would honor it thoroughly. "Of course, Master," she replied, steeling herself.

"Good, now let me tell you what you must do. . ."

He told her about the Scrolls of Surge, knowledge recorded by the strongest istlingr in all of light-bringer history. Prior to the Fall, the Scrolls were plentifully distributed amongst light-bringers and scholars. However, the soon-to-pass Elders of the istlingrs had burned every copy of the original four Scrolls, except the originals, that is. The four Scrolls are currently located in four Temples respectfully, and scattered throughout Alagaesia. The Temples can only be unlocked by an illuminator, but they haven't even been found in centuries.

To help her find the Temples, Ezra's master gave her Istill, an animate ball of light with a consciousness of her own. She can help Ezra locate the Temples in which the Scrolls lie (more info about Istill down below). Now that Galbatorix has fallen, Ezra and Istill have left Kuasta to search for the Scrolls. However, Ezra needs allies; that much her master has made clear. So that's what she intends to gather before seeking her race's ancient knowledge.

Weapons: Her istlingr-bow, magic, and her mind.

Likes: Since she rarely got to leave Kuasta during Galbatorix's reign, she is fascinated by nature, having rarely seen it. Other than that, she likes Istill and animals, and she takes pride in her race.

Dislikes: Galbatorix, willing followers of Galbatorix; while she doesn't hate hunters, she loathes the idea of hunting.

Weaknesses/Fears: She fears for the survival of her race. She doesn't know of any more istlingrs, and thus doesn't have much faith in the avoiding of extinction for her race.

Animal Companions: While not necessarily an animal, a yellow ball of light follows Ezra around. Her name is Istill, and her kind has long since been faithful companions to istlingrs. Her kind's fate is linked to the istlingr's fate. The more numerous the istlingrs, the more numerous her own race. As such, their reproduction is unintentional and asexual. While Istill can communicate mentally, she doesn't have any notable powers other then being intangible, and being able to locate the hidden Scrolls of the istlingr race.

Character Physical Description: Ezra stands at around 5'7", with brilliantly golden hair. Her small brown eyes are framed by long eyelashes. Her features are prominent and sharp, with high cheekbones and a pointed chin. All in all, she is quite fair-looking. Although she can't be outside much, her skin is a healthy complexion, because istlingrs naturally obtain tans easier than the average living being of another race. She has a thin and flexible frame. She commonly dons light clothing, occasionally wearing a white cloak over her casual clothing in colder weather. On her wrist is the mark of an istlingr, and the link between her and her bow. She doesn't have very many scars or marks on her skin.

Dream for the Future: She wishes to find the four Scrolls of Surge, as her master's dying wish. Afterwards, she plans to search for any survivors of her race.

Reasons for Dreams: She wants to conclude her training and master the arts of an illuminator. For the latter dream, she cares for the survival of her race and Istill's.

Alignment: I'm using her after the war, so she isn't exactly "on" any side.
