Post Re: Blood Magic
Jina started, her eyes swiveling around to look at the star silver dragoness. I would protect your young to my eternal death for what you did. But how do you know my name? she asked, shifting her weight from one foot to the other. At the mention of her son's name, her gaze shot back to the pale indigo. She froze completely at the name of her mate. Saal? she whispered. Zephorion? she took a step forward. She stopped and her eyes widened further as a voice entered her mind, one that she had almost forgotten. My love.... it whispered to her. Her heart clenched and her eyes gleamed. Saal.... she crooned tenderly, her chest aching. The pale indigo stepped closer. Mother. he said, and smiled at her. She smiled hesitantly in return. My son... she purred. The tip of her tail still flicked anxiously, there were two dragons she didn't know close by, but she relaxed enough. I had thought the both of you were lost to me and I would forever be alone, fated to walk these halls for the rest of time in hope that one of you would return to me somehow. she murmured. Her attention shifted to the blue-black and the amethyst. Who are you two? she asked. The amethyst smiled gently at her. I am Zeke Blindscale, son of Zephor, grandson of Zephorion. he said. Her eyes widened with delight; she had a great-grandchild.

OOC:
It's fine draco, no worries. I've been a little dry on ideas as well. :)

Post Re: Blood Magic
Temias peered around the others to examine Phalynx's eggs when they first entered the room. There were three. One was a medium-blue color with black and white streaks, one was white with star-silver markings, and the other was a soothing gray hue. He smiled and nodded at Zeke's comment, and shifted his gaze abruptly at Phal's announcement. In only a few more seconds, a powerful presence entered the room, forming a blue-ish mass around the silver and her clutch. Temias felt a prickling sensation run down his spine as the wraith's magic brushed him, reminding him of his own time as a wraith. The dragon-soul reformed moments later, looking fearful and uncertain. However, at Phalynx's words it focused on Zephorion, and the expression changed. This must be Jina, the mother of the Namer. After a short time, Jina turned to inspect Temias and Zeke. The blue-black smiled as Zeke explained that he was her descendant. When he finished the young male bowed his head in a respectful greeting.

I am Temias, a friend of these dragons. I am from the Tribe, a group of dragons that Zephorion led from Unity after its fall and continues to offer his wisdom and guidance to. I am very glad that you are here, so that we may have this joyous reunion, he spoke formally, regarding the wraith with a curious silver gaze. She had been here for a long time under the control of Kumaraq, only freed a couple years before. And now she had found her son and mate. Temias felt joy for the family, coming together after so much separation.

Jina ran her eye over the blue-black, studying the curious marks on his body that stood out starkly on his dark scales. Finally she smiled warmly at him and met his silver gaze. A pleasure, Temias. Please, you don't have to be formal with me. Much too stiff for my tastes. You are a friend of my son, that is enough for me. she said. She then frowned slightly and turned, sweeping her eyes over the entire group. Why are you all here? Not that I am questioning your right to be here, Silver Star, she assured the star silver anxiously, glancing at the dragoness before continuing. or bring whoever you wish to Unity, but why my mate, my son, and my great-grandson? she asked, her eyeridges furrowing in question. Is there something that you need here? I know every inch of this place; I can lead you to wherever you might need to go. she said, looking from one dragon to the other with her head tilted slightly.

Post Re: Blood Magic
Temias smiled warmly at the wraith and dipped his head in greeting. Thank you, Jina. It is a pleasure to meet the mother of Zephorion and great-grandmother of my friend Zeke, he replied, stepping back out of the way toward the edge of the chamber. He tilted his head to observe the eggs again, curious about them. Eggs were fairly rare among the Tribe, simply because the dragons were conscious about how many of their kind they could successfully support without being noticed by outsiders. He was curious about when the eggs would hatch, but of course it was up to the dragonlings to decide when that would be.

Phalynx smiled warmly as Jina asked why her family members were with her in Unity. Well, these are my friends and I wanted to show them my clutch, but there is another reason. I knew you were a wraith, and Saal was curious about what happened to you. I thought there was a chance you might still be here. I hoped we would encounter you so that you could all be reunited, she responded, glancing between all of the family members cheerfully. She wrapped her tail closer to her, bringing it right next to her eggs and bending down to give them another sniff.

Post Re: Blood Magic
Jina smiled at Temias, her azure eyes warm. I am glad they have a friend such as you to keep them in line. she said, and chuckled. She heard Saal splutter in mock indignation, and her son's eyes widened innocently. She snorted. Please, don't do the innocent act with me. I know better. she said, and grinned. She shifted her gaze to Phalynx, thinking over what the star silver said. She glanced at her son, her pupils narrowing slightly, and then at the young amethyst that she barely even knew. I stayed because I wouldn't abandon my family. Even in this form, though I can't deal any physical harm, I can still cause some heavy damage to someone's soul. she growled softly, scales bristling. I thank you for thinking of bringing them here, but again, why? Zeke and Zephorion are alive and well, and surely Saal's Heart is safe and sound. Beside showing them your beautiful eggs, you could have simply come here by yourself and told me. she said, still puzzled. Why bring Saal here, when Phalynx could have told her where he was and then she could have gone to him? She shook her head, confused, then stiffened, turning into a living (metaphorically) statue. Her eyes flashed and she peeled her lips back to show her fangs, transforming from mild and warm to menacing and cold. No. she said flatly. She knew exactly why Saal had had himself brought here. She wasn't stupid, and she also had been here for a long time. Her scales bristled as she ruffled her wings on her back, uneasy now. You don't want this, Saal. Trust me. Being a wraith is...lonely. Cold. she murmured. She felt his mental touch and flinched, her nostrils flaring briefly when she abruptly felt an onrush of pure emotion. Love, sadness, loneliness, anger, anguish...Raw and fresh and potent. Love and anguish were the most prominent, but tinged with the bitter feeling of loss, sadness. And the sense of being utterly alone, for centuries on end. Tears made her throat close.

Post Re: Blood Magic
Temias smiled at Jina, laughing at her remark and at Saal's and Zephorion's reactions. He wasn't exactly sure how he would "keep them in line," being the only normal dragon of the group, but he would try if he had to. At the moment no one seemed to be going off down the wrong track, anyway. The deep blue watched Jina as her tone shifted. Her queries toward Phalynx became more serious, until she abruptly became agitated. Temias felt his own scales bristle just slightly on the back of his neck, causing the silver Kallek Marks there to glitter. What was wrong? Jina did not leave his question unanswered long, as she quickly revealed what she suspected. The young dragon's head shifted rapidly to Zephorion's direction, his mind brushing around Saal's just enough to observe what happened. Saal had professed interest in becoming a wraith, and Jina had realized this. Temias took a heaving breath. He knew why Jina was against it. He had seen how many of Kumaraq's wraiths had been unable to re-enter their bodies, doomed forever to wander the world as nothing more than a ghost. But Saal was already trapped, and becoming a wraith would at least bring him closer to his mate. The blue glanced between the dragons, wondering what would happen.

Post Re: Blood Magic
Saal crooned to his mate, knowing why she was against the idea of him joining her by the memories in Zephorion's mind. Jina...I love you. I would do anything for you. That hasn't changed, for all these centuries. Even if it means becoming nothing more than a memory, an image, and going through hellish pain to get there. he murmured to her.

- - - - - - - - - -

Jina relaxed slightly but still glowered at Zephorion, and through him to her mate. And what about our son? Or our great-grandson? They need you to guide them with their powers and with the tome, because you are the last of your line with the full knowledge of your abilities and why they were given to the Red Clan. she retorted sharply. He was silent for a while, then. I know. But the tome has a memory of Xephran, if you remember, my love. It can tell them what I probably can't, which won't change because I have no physical body. I can barely remember how a physical body feels. It would be better if I joined you. he said softly. Jina stared, then looked down to the ground, torn.

Post Re: Blood Magic
Phalynx glanced between Jina and Saal sympathetically, unsure of what to say. Ultimately, it would be Saal's decision whether or not to become a wraith. If he chose to do so, she knew how to accomplish what was necessary. Her mind was already going over what she would have to do. She had never used the device on someone else before, but she was certain it would work. The only problem would be the pain. It didn't hurt to use it on herself because of what had happened, but it would hurt for Saal if he used it. If you do choose to become a wraith, Saal, I should warn you now that the process will hurt a great deal. And I cannot say anything for afterward... Until a few years ago all the wraiths were Kumaraq's slaves. I don't know what will become of them, of you, in the long term, she spoke, wanting to make sure he was as informed as possible before making a decision. She began to wonder what would happen to the wraiths as the years passed. Would they continue to exist as wraiths, or would they eventually fade away? It was impossible to tell at the time.

Post Re: Blood Magic
Saal stared at his mate through Zephorion's eyes; the years hadn't touched her at all. Probably because she was a wraith. Oh how he loved her. He would do anything to be with her again. Anything to see her smile with warmth and happiness. He brushed against Phal's, letting her feel his immense gratitude. Thank you, Phalynx. I would like to join my mate now. he rumbled, letting his mate hear his words as he spoke them. Jina looked up. There was a jumble of emotions swirling in her eyes all at once and he couldn't discern one from the other. But she nodded in acceptance. Then her expression became worried, and the wraith-dragoness looked at Phalynx with concern prominent in her gaze. Will Zephorion be affected at all, since he is the one carrying Saal? she asked. Saal hadn't thought of that. If his son was in danger then he wouldn't do it.

Post Re: Blood Magic
Phal gave a long, slow nod to Saal, accepting his decision. She would actually probably do the same, in his position. I will take you all to the device, then, she murmurred, sniffing lovingly over her eggs again before standing and heading out of the room. She turned at Jina's question and shook her head. No. The device I will use only affects the soul of the one it is being used on. Zephorion will not be harmed at all, she replied with an encouraging smile. She slowly led the group down to the catacombs of Unity, to the secretive chambers below the main part of the city where Kumaraq had done his research. She came at last into the chamber where the device was stored. It was fairly large, and looked like a platform with a structure at one end. The structure was tall and thin, and angled at the top to point down at whatever was on the platform. Several magical crystals, all of them the same pale green-white color as the wraiths and Kumaraq's other crystals, were visible within gaps of the structure. Just stand near that platform, Zephorion, and I will angle the device toward you and link it to Saal, she spoke, hoping they weren't unnerved too much by the sinister appearance of the device.

Post Re: Blood Magic
Saal sighed with relief when Phal said the machine would not harm his son. He would go forward with it, then.

- - - - - - - - - -

Zephorion followed Phal down to the chambers, feeling a shiver roll down his spine. An old anger, one from years ago, swelled within him. It was faint and much reduced from the great fury that he had felt then, but still fresh and raw. He felt his father wonder at the emotion, but he pushed away Saal, not wanting to discuss it. It still hurt. He shoved the feelings away and focused on where he was walking. When they reached the platform with the device on it, he shivered again, but followed Phal's instructions and stood by the platform.

- - - - - - - - - -

Jina reluctantly followed behind Zeke. She was curious of the amethyst male that was her great-grandson. She wanted to ask him a few questions, but wasn't sure if now was appropriate. She decided to wait for a bit. Once they arrived in the chambers she couldn't help the soft growl that vibrated her chest at the sight of the device. She watched Zephorion take his place, her eyes anxious. Finally she broke down and padded to her sons side and stood next to him. She knew she couldn't touch him. But she knew why he didn't like this place. The device wouldn't affect her at all; she was already a wraith, and plus Phalynx had said that the device would only work on the one it was being used on.

Post Re: Blood Magic
Phal smiled at Zephorion as he took his place, and she slowly extended a tendril of her own magic to the device, using her energy to lift the moveable part of it so that it was pointed at the faded indigo's chest. She then began tugging on the magic of the device, leading it gently toward Zephorion until it linked with Saal's consciousness. She knew he would feel an icy shock, like diving into cold water, when he was linked. It was what she had felt when she had been experimenting. She waited a few moments for him to adjust, and then began threading more of the device's magic to Saal. Once the link was firmly in place, she reached over to the base of the device and shifted a crystal that poked out of the structure, twisting it slightly and giving it a boost of her own energy. The device immediately activated, the crystals all glowing with the pale, green-white color that reminded her of death (it had been the original color of the wraiths before they had been freed). A link of green-white magic, threaded with Saal's red, became visible to the others between Zephorion and the device. It looked like a tendril of lightning, and Phal knew the pain was starting.

Gradually, the red filled more and more of the magical link until it was pure crimson. At this point the lightning withdrew from Zephorion. The end of it that had been connected to him moved down one of his limbs and attached itself to the base of the device, where the link curved over to the top of the device in an arch shape. It crackled for a few moments, building energy as sparks flew from the point where it connected to the base. Finally, there was a flash of red light, and when it cleared a dim, hazy red mist could be seen surrounding the device, the magical lightning gone. The mist gradually coalesced, taking on a more and more familiar shape until at last there was a visible dragon-wraith standing upon the platform at the base of the device. The crystals dimmed and faded until their glow was lost. Phal waited for a while for Saal to speak, knowing he would need a few moments to compose himself.

Post Re: Blood Magic
Saal had the urge to jerk as he felt an icy shock wash over him, like he'd just jumped into an ice cold lake. He became accustomed to it and then he felt Phalynx linking more of the icy threads into him. Abruptly he felt a pain inside him, at his core. If he'd had a body he would have grunted. He hadn't felt pain for a very long time. At least, other than the emotional pain that he was used to. But anything physical he'd forgotten how it felt. It stabbed at him again, and he wanted to writhe to get away from it. He growled to himself and wrestled a more firm hold on his emotions, hiding them from his son and mate. The pain grew and grew, encircling him, drowning him. Every time he thought he was going to lose it, he thought of his mate. He was doing this for her. For her.

He felt himself being drawn out of Zephorion. It seemed like he was floating in space without any substance to him. The pain spiked, and he roared out, his eyes clenching. He didn't have eyes, but it felt like it. The pain spiked higher, and then he felt something shatter. He screamed and screamed, this pain the worst of all. He felt like his entire being was being scattered into pieces. He knew this was his Heart being destroyed.

Even as his wraith body appeared on the platform, the pain still lingered in his chest. He stayed crouched on the platform and didn't move for a few minutes, gathering his wits about him. The first thing he realized was that he could hear things. Then scent. He could, vaguely, feel the platform under his paws. He could taste the air on his tongue. It had been so long since he'd experienced any of these. He'd had a sense of it when he was in his son's body, but it hadn't been this sharp. He lifted his head and opened his eyes. His pupils had to adjust to the light briefly, and then he could see. Truly see.

He looked at Jina first. Beautiful Jina. His mate. His, and only his. He rumbled deeply, lovingly, in his chest. He saw the shiver roll down her spine and she took a step closer, her expression...cautiously joyful. Her deep blue scales looked so warm and beautiful and perfect. He couldn't believe he was looking at her with his own two eyes, when he'd thought that he'd lost her forever. He bunched his muscles and sprang forward, leaping easily right over Zephorion and landing directly in front of Jina. It felt so good to move.

He prummed tenderly in his chest once more and touched her snout lightly with his. Her eyes widened at the contact, then she pushed closer and purred, rubbing her cheek against his. Saal closed his eyes and rumbled, wrapping his neck around hers and unfurling his wings to cover her in their warmth. He was touching his mate. He was embracing her. It was beyond anything he had ever hoped for. He opened his eyes and looked at Phalynx; his ruby irises were filled with joy and content. Thank you. he said to the star silver dragoness quietly, also letting her feel his gratitude.

Alright you two lovebirds. said Zephorion dryly. Saal chuckled and pulled away from Jina, but stayed close to her, and he had the tip of his tail wrapped around hers. It felt so good to physically touch again. The flame-red male snorted softly and looked over his son. He smiled. You've grown well. he praised. The pale indigo prummed.

Post Re: Blood Magic
OOC: It's been ages since I've been on. lol we should probably wrap this one up now (sorry for the massive delay gah).

IC: Phalynx waited patiently, wondering how Saal would adjust. She had spent a few hours as a wraith while experimenting with this machine. Her senses were the same as in her physical body, but she could not truly interact with anything physical. She could not move things or truly touch them, and she could pass right through solid objects if she willed it (she had come to realize it was only her force of will and habit keeping her from sinking through the floor). When Saal seemed to adjust, his eyes locked on his mate, and the expression of pure joy that flooded over his features swept a powerful warmth through the silver's heart. He sprang immediately to her and they lovingly embraced, and Phal realized that though a wraith could not interact with physical things, they could still do so with each other. It made Saal's and Jina's prospects for the future bright, for they would always have each other. Phal found herself smiling, a very hominid expression, her eyes sparkling with delight at the reunion. This adventure had started out with danger, urgency, and the threat of death, but was turning into something completely opposite. How do you feel? She asked Saal, her tail swishing cheerfully.

lol Yeah should, around here soon. I've got nothing more to add, I've got everything down I want to, I believe.
(lol no problem, life happens. XD)

IC:
Saal lifted his head to look at Phal, and his smile was warm. He kept one wing over Jina, reluctant to part from her in anyway now. I feel fine. Sore, but otherwise fine. Nothing that time won't mend. he said, and nuzzled his mate. He dipped his head to the star silver, prumming deeply in his chest. I can never thank you enough for reuniting my family. he said, gazing at his son and great-grandson. It will be an honor to learn about what has happened to them and how they were raised. Zephorion inclined his head respectfully and smiled. I will be happy to share. Zeke swished his tail and quirked his mouth a bit. [i]You mean get us in trouble right? he snorted softly, humor twinkling in his eyes.
