Elcyon
Name: Elcyon
Age: Four
Gender: female
Skills: Elcyon enjoys reading anything she can get her claws on. If it’s in another language she doesn’t know what it says, she’s willing to learn it just so she can read what is written on the scroll or leather-bound book. Reading helps her gain more knowledge a little easier. She wants to learn all she can of learning about her ancestors. She’s very artistic; she likes to paint abstract with any design she can think of. It makes her creative. She likes to look at something from a different point of view, always thinking outside the box. If she can, Elcyon will mix her own paints with crystals to make them sparkle. Elcyon was also taught how to fight. She’s pretty good when it comes to combat. She fights with her tail and her claws and, sometimes, her fire-breath. She’s very agile on the ground more than in the air; she was never really taught how to fly well. She can fly for long distances. Sometimes, though, it’s hard for her to fight in the air because of that. She is pretty intelligent. It goes with her will to learn. She likes to store knowledge in her brain with all the reading she does.
Update: Her remaining skill remains much of a mystery. She has random flashes, though they are vague and uncontrolled. She often sees things of the future, though once in a while, she may get one of the past…
Race: Dragon
Hair: none
Eyes: Ice blue eyes with gold encircling the pupil and little spots of purple
Home Town: On an island off the coast of Alagesia; Illium
Parents: mother: unknown father: Rodan, but not her real father Siblings: Unknown
Character Personality: Elcyon is a shy and reserved dragon by nature. She doesn’t warm up to anyone quickly, and likes to be by herself. That doesn’t mean she doesn’t like anyone. She wouldn’t mind making some new friends. She is a creative dragon; she loves to draw and paint. Mostly her drawings are of random designs that she sees outside of the real world. She will either draw squiggles or shapes until it makes a mural on the page. Elcyon loves to explore; she likes to see and discover new things. Even if the discovery had already been, well, discovered, she still likes to learn something new. She would rather travel the world and see everything there is to see. Elcyon is also nosy. She sticks her nose where it doesn’t belong and it can often lead to trouble. She likes to offer help to others when it probably isn’t needed. Still, she has other’s best interest at heart. When she gets an idea, there is no use trying to reason with her. She likes to stick to her idea until she realizes that it is probably useless. She’s kind of reckless, but very kind and understanding. She sets out on adventures, half of the time, without a plan. She likes to go into action right away. If you get her mad, however, her temper can flare to extreme intensity. If her feelings are hurt, she can hold a grudge and she won’t accept an apology unless it’s sincere.
Character History: Elcyon’s egg was laid one-hundred and ninety-nine years ago and she hatched on the 200th year. She hatched on the Illium Island with her father, Rodan; a large dragon who was almost 1,000 years old. He told her, after a couple of years together, that he was not her real father; he found her egg beneath some roots of a large tree on the island. He raised her as his own, teaching Elcyon the ways of the dragon and telling her ancient legends of their kind. Elcyon was saddened that she wasn’t going to know who her true parents were, but she loved Rodan enough like a real father. One day, while Elcyon was observing the stars and reading a scroll Rodan had given her, Rodan went missing. She couldn’t find him anywhere on the island, and figured he was dead. Sadly, she leaves her home so she can forget her past miseries. Elcyon traveled, looking for new discoveries to add to her knowledge. The Spine intrigues her; she stays a few nights to listen for new stories and to observe the stars and watch their rotation. Then she moves on, traveling to the Surda over to the Beor Mountains, hearing more legends of an evil being. He thinks he is king, and he was destroying the dragon race. She wonders what gives this person the right to slaughter dragons, and decides to get to the bottom of it. She keeps to herself, gradually heading over the Hadarac Desert until she is attacked by a Shade. The Shade explains he is working for a man called Galbatorix, and he is out to kill any dragon he comes across. Elcyon had no choice but to flee; his magic was too strong, but she used her fire breath for the first time to get away. She takes shelter in the Du Weldenvarden, until the Shade disappears. She emerges, feeling exhausted and frightened. That was when she remembers what Rodan told her about the Shades; they can only be killed by stabbing them in the heart. If she had ever faced a Shade again, she would know what to do. Elcyon now flies over Alagesia, carrying a leather-bound book and a quill used for notes, as she searches for new discoveries. She wouldn’t mind, however, making friends.
Update: Elcyon has discovered that the tree she was found under was the Tree of Prosperity. She had traveled far to find the answers she seeked, and found a prophetess, Hora, who told her about the fire demons. The fire demons tried to take over the island and make it their domain, but a water nymph had wiped them out. Since they burned the Tree, the nymph had to retract the evil from within in order to restore it to its proper stature. However, the evil could not be destroyed. It had to go somewhere else; it went inside Elcyon's egg while she lay dormant. Elcyon eventually went to go see the Nymph to ask how to remove the evil that was within her. In return for the Nymph's help, the Nymph had asked Elcyon to get a large red gem for payment. Elcyon traveled some more in search of the gem, where she found Phalynx, warrior of the stars, in a valley. From there, the two friends began to plan and find out the answers for Elcyon's mysteries.
Update: Things have been turning topsy-turvy for El when she has strange flashes more frequently and discovers that there is darkness lying dormant within her that wants to battle against her good-natured heart. Elcyon has been traveling everywhere with some new friends that she has made. Phalynx, one of these companions volunteers to help Elcyon in her quest to discover the origins of the curse. Along the way, they find strange paintings, two of which has dragons they both know. One is of Rodan, sitting atop a cliff and seeming to be thinking. The other is of two dragons, and they seem to be in a face-off. One dragon has been confirmed that it is of Phalynx, and she is going to be facing another dragon, though it is too dark to really tell whom the dragon is. They ask Hora, a human prophetess, what the paintings mean, exactly and get sort of a vague answer, a prophecy if you will. Hora tells them to go to the southeast and find a cave. There, they will find some answers they are seeking. When they arrive, El is in for a nasty surprise when she sees the skeletons lying all over the cave. One of them had bronze scales, those of the same color as her adoptive father, Rodan. Meanwhile, when Elcyon remained on her home island for a little relaxation, Equinox showed up to her island. Together, they discover paintings within the beach caves El had often played in as a younger dragon. They find three dragons flying together, and one other dragon who is flying by himself. The color of the dragons are; teal, silver, black, and red. The black one seems to look a lot like El, and they figure that perhaps…these dragons are her siblings. The dragon even has gold encircling the pupil with little spots of purple inside. They also see Equinox in the painting, with him breathing lightning. They go to Hora, where she has a prophecy of an up-coming battle that will war among a possible enemy; Crimson. Later, she and Equinox go and search for the three remaining dragons, and they find two; Tvashtar and Savania, who have odd yet unique powers. Before they go and search for Equinox’s friends, he admits his true feelings to Elcyon that leaves her in a confused state. However, she tells him that perhaps they will discuss it later, for their time should be spent trying to prepare for the up-coming battle. Even as she says this, El felt her heart beat at a frequent pace, and tries to work out her emotions that seem to be conflicting with each other.
Update: Elcyon has come to terms with her feelings when Equinox and herself are at the point of death. She truly does love him, and wants to be with him forever. On their journey to defeat the strange darkness, they perform the mating flight. In this case, El and Equinox return to her home island, where she lays three eggs. In this clutch, two females, Incindea and Railyn, and one male, Luxir, hatch.
Weapons: Elcyon uses her fire-breath for her main weapon (of course). She uses it to incinerate her weaker enemies who aren’t fire-proof. She uses her tail, claws, and teeth. Her tail is to be used like a whip, her claws and teeth to rip and tear into her victims.
(Update) Dark Form: Elcyon has control over shadow. She uses the shadows to form her fire breath into a form of shadow-breath.
Likes: Elcyon enjoys drawing, flying, dreaming, observing the stars, her friends, and discovering things. She also likes to think about anything, even if it’s rambling nonsense.
Dislikes: She despise Galbatorix, bullies, rudeness, narcissism, and spicy foods. She doesn’t like the fact that some people can be narrow-minded towards the impossible. Update: Now she dislikes Crimson and anyone else would dare harm any of her friends.
Animal Companion: None for now
Character’s Physical Description: Elcyon has black scales, dark as the night. They have a red shine to them if the sun shines on it at a certain angle. She has icy-blue eyes with gold encircling the pupils and dark purple spots are speckled in the gold. She has large claws, which are extremely sharp and she has a large wing-span. This helps her to fly for any given length of time. She has needle-like teeth which are extremely sharp, and her two canines stick out of her mouth. When she is in her dark form, her eyes will glow evilly.
Dreams for Future: She wants to see Galbatorix fail in his attempt to rule Alagasia and to make new discoveries. She also wants to know more about her family’s history and what happened to her real parents. Update: Elcyon wants to see Crimson fall as well, She wants to rid the curse and evil that is within her.
Reasons for Dreams: Elcyon doesn’t want to see her race completely annihilated. She wants to see the dragons be free from darkness, and free from a dictator and a human at that. She wants to have adventures rather than sit around, moping and doing nothing. She hopes that this is something she can tell her children about one day. Update: When she heard about Crimson and all of the things he has done, she is willing to fight him for her friends so that he will not be a threat to Equinox and her other friends who are at risk. The curse is a terrible burden upon El, and it seems to attract dark energy to her unwillingly. It is something she would rather not have, and the evil that likes to show up once in a while is also taking its toll on her. She doesn’t like the fact that she cannot remember what happens in her dark form, and she doesn’t want to risk hurting her friends anymore.
Alliance: Rebellion against Galbatorix, Crimson, and anyone who is wanting to hurt the innocent.
