That's entirely possible, but it must be a really obscure myth for Eragon not to have heard about it. Unless it's like a urban legend? Maybe only the people who live near it know about it (and just don't realize what it is), of course, that's assuming people do live near it. (Or any sentient species that can communicate about it.)

He was only able to contact Islandzadi because she was outside the boundary of the elves spells. (Which ends before the boundary of the forest.) And I doubt that the magic is lessened just because most of the elves are out of the forest.

If he and Saphira do what they did to meet Oromis in Brisingr (fly non-stop) it wouldn't take that long for them to reach Ellesmera. And that's assuming that Rhunon doesn't leave the forest for some reason and come to him personally.

No, where the elves armies were camped was outside the protection of their spells. Their magic can't reach that far.

We're debating about whether or not Rhunon knows where the RoK is, since she's so old. If she does, how will Eragon contact her to ask?

And as I was saying, the magic the elves sing into the trees during their festivals becomes a part of the plants. So it's not going to dissipate or weaken when most of the elves leave, which means the boundaries are still going to be as strong as they are when all the elves are there.

Rhunon will leave the forest or go among other people if it's necessary. And something tells me this would be necessary.

so what you are getting at is that Eragon will probably be able to contact Rhunon if he wants to, but Rhunon might refuse to leave her forge since she is too attached to it to even think of the prospect of leaving it and probably never returning... but how else could he find it??? ....... i really have no idea!

well i am a new user here .i just love the fact how every body is engrossed in figuring out the minute details of the fourth book.well about the rocks of kuthian my insinuation is that , the rock may be found in the dwarven kingdom,either farthen dur or tronjheim,remembr the place where orik takes eragon when eragon comes to the dwarve land for the coronation .in the book it is said that eragons fate is controlled by three mystical creatures and they will provide him with stupendous gifts, one is already the sword BRISIGR, forged by the elf smith RHUNON, THE GIFT OF THE DRAGONS ,RESTORATION OF ERAGONS HEALTH ND HIS TRANSFORMATION,THE LAST WHICH IS THE ROCK OF KUTHIAN MAYBE IT WILL BE THE TOKEN BY THE DWARVES,THIS IS JUST A WILD GUESS, TELL ME DRAGON RIDERS WAT DO U THINK

I remember reading that he is somehow tied down to all 3 major RACES not creatures. Obviously he's tied to the humans because he is one, he's an honorary member of orik's clan; so that ties him to the dwarves, and he was trained by the elves....could the RoK or the VoSreally hold eldunari? Since galby took all that were accounted for, and i somehow don't think wild dragons had a need to give up their eldunari since they didn't have a rider to give them to...so what do you think?

I seems most likely that it will be eldunari in the VoS. I dont know what else could be in there? I mean, unless he literally means souls< like a big swirling vortex of trapped souls.... Hang on, maybe a place where those souls that we saw in Brisingr, those floating colour changing entities, remember they were happy with eragon about him freeing the souls in Durza, so maybe he will free souls trapped in this vault, even though the word vault says storage to me, not prison...... either way, yes, he releases them and they are all very happy with him and will use their amazing powers (they turned a lilly into a jewel version thats still alive), to help him kill galby or do something else wonerful...

i think it will be like a vault of information, and since HoH are dragons -> have a lot of know how i think that its gonna be more HoH and he is gonna use those for powers, agree/disagree?

That "place" where Orik took Eragon in Book 4 is the forest of stone trees. (Lol, I don't remember the actual name for it.)

My guess is that the RoK and the VoS are somewhere close to it, but that's just a hunch.

It's also possible that they're both something to do with the elves, but Oromis was a Rider and much respected among his own race, so I believe he would have known the location if it was a secret of the elves.

Kuthian. A name right? A name of a dragon. As stated in page 207 of eragon. Angela says the name rings a bell of strong power... YAY!

Then when we go to eldest there are HUGE CLUES to the rocks whereabouts!!!!!

Look at page 438 of eldest... they enter a rocky area.

440 Glaedr talks about the soul of animals.

441 Talks about seperating the hearts from a rabbit

Kuthian was probably the head dragon leader guy and so Rock of Kuthian by dragons. The stone of broken eggs by elves!!!!

The FIRST RIDER, AKA: Eragon. He probably found his dragon near here. His dragon brought him to the clan and the were freinds. He becomes DR and he takes the souls in a magical barier because of his new power which only opens when his name is spoken...... His name is the same as Eragons!!!!!!! He stores them because he is going to help protect the dragons from the elves that are killing them. Also. Dragons could have also been storing them before DR's as a burrial custom. Generations of dragons power could lay there!!!!! He never got to use them obviously as the querrel ended. If he didn't have enogh power to stop the entire elven army.. there was no point in using it otherwise he would just lose...

Basically it was a bunch of clues leading to the theory that the Stone of Broken Eggs (mentioned in Eldest in the chapter where Saphira and Glaedr fight) is the RoK.

pretty much, yeah... i like that theory and the rock trees one but i do think the elves would have told him about the rock so it might be more likley to be in the dwarves' relm

Maybe Saphira knows where the RoK is but she can't tell Eragon because it's one of the things Brom swore her to secrecy on. (That's a hare-brained theory brought on by a lot of Dr. Pepper, so not much thought behind it.)


I think anything under the heading of 'rock' can safely be placed under the dwarves jurisdiction. (And that's not just concerning the RoK.)

??? Are you talking about Helgrind (the Ra'zac's lair) or Vroengard? 'Cause I think I read somewhere in the books that Vroengard is deserted. It wouldn't be deserted if there are guards there.

Remember when Arya told Eragon about the Banishing of the Names? It was when they were traveling back to the Varden (the chapter where CP made the Doctor Who reference.) What if the Rock of Kuthian is named after one of the Forsworn's dragons? I know the BotN took the names of the dragons away, but would that mean places that are named after them to? It makes sense, Oromis and Arya both recognized the name, but they couldn't remember where they'd heard it.

Technically if something was named after one of the dragons then it's name couldn't be taken away, but maybe for some reason everybody forgot where and what it was after the BotN.

Yes, but that was the dragons. I don't think it would be objects named after them to, because that's not the dragon's personal name or title. And ppl say it sounds familiar, but they don't know why. This could def be why.

actually i've just thought that aren is the rock of kuthian. the name of the book is the inheritance cycle and it has been mentioned that beside the horse, aren is the only thing that eragon has inherited from brom

I hadn't thought of that.... It would make sense and would be kind of unexpected, since it's called the Rock of Kuthian people would assume it's a large rock or boulder. It would be kind of funny if it turned out to be the tiny little stone in his ring.

It's supposed to be something impressive though, so 'a little much' is probably what we're looking for.

Of course, what if the RoK is a giant gemstone (like the Star Sapphire) and Aren is a piece of it?

yes, and it would be awesome if he found the rest of it, but it might have been blown across a large area, and he'd have to find them to get to full power in book 4

It could still be in one piece though. What if the elves only take small pieces of it to make their Elf-friend rings? (Which is what Aren is.)

Can you imagine how big a dragon would have to be to have an Eldunari the size of a boulder? I'm not saying it's not possible, I'm just saying I wouldn't want to be around when the thing gets hungry.

Maybe, but idk when Eragon would be able to go there. Most of the Urgal settlements are in the Spine, and he's going to be coming through the Empire with the Varden from the south. How would he have time to get there?

I think that the rock of kuthian is likely the ring of someone named kuthian because rock of kuthian is the same as kuthian's rock. The rock could hold tons of energy if it were a gemstone. It could also be the vault of souls, if say, several beings put all their energy into the rock. They would then literially be putting themselves, or their souls in to the rock.

Maybe, but Idk.... Putting all of their energy into a ring wouldn't be the same as their souls. It could certainly be a ring though.

I don't remember anything being said about the purity of the stone, but I remember someone mentioning that certain species of stone can't be used. (Quartz, for example.)

Personally I think that the Rock of Kuthian is the Floating Crystal on Eoam, and the Vault of Souls could be the Dream wells that Oromis talks to Eragon about (something along the lines that this type of magic is often more powerful than any spellcaster could produce). I realize that theres not really any concrete evidence to support this but its just a thought ;}

Straight up CP needs to come out with the book already ive heard so many theories that the ROK could be in the middle of the Hadarac Desert.... or that Aren could be the ROK but i guess we just wont know fer sure till he does!!!

I think the Vault of Souls is where Galby keeps his dragon heart of hearts he stole, and the Rock of Kuthain is probably in the Hadarac Desert some where, and that is where the rest of the dragon heart of hearts are that have not been found, like what 1337chief.

Possibly in the middle of the Hadarac desert? I dont remember which book it is but Saphira does state to Eragon that they "must visit there someday" could this be forshadowing? maybe, That is the resting place of the dragons from before the fall. So yes that could work.

Yeah, Saphira did state that she and Eragon must visit there again in Book One, and so for her to state that they must return. If they just return, have a look around and go again would be boring, so there must be something there!

I have read the series multiple times since the 2008 release of Brisngr. About every three months or so I'll spend the weekend pouring over every single detail trying to find a connection or any clue to what may happen in the last book. I found this a couple days ago and it really caught my attention. I'm not sure if anyone else has posted this, but I am pretty good about picking up the little clues that authors throw in. So here it goes.

In book two, Eldest, after the Blood Oath Celebration when Eragon, Orik, and Saphira leave Du
Weldenvarden, I saw this after they camped out between there and the Hadarac Desert.

As the sun began its descent, he noticed a cluster of mountains in the
distant east and knew he beheld Du Fells Nángoröth, where the wild
dragons had gone to mate, to raise their young, and eventually to die. We

must visit there someday, said Saphira, following his gaze.

"Aye."

Oromis tells Eragon in book 3 that there are no more known storages of Eldunari. I believe that the dragons hid their heart of hearts at Du Fells Nángoröth. I believe the rock of Kuthian is there (since its mountains there's rocks lol) and Galbatorix is trying to find the name to open it. Also, did anyone else find it strange that neither Arya or Oromis could remember where they had heard of the rock of Kuthian? I believe Galbatorix or the wild dragons themselves cast a spell to remove the location and info pertaining to it. I do believe that the werecat told Eragon to speak His true name to the Vault of Souls, and the Razac told Eragon that Galbatorix had almost found THE true name, not his true name. That's really the only thing I couldn't fit together. Perhaps whoever wishes to open it must speak their true name. Only Oromis believed that if Galabtorix heard his own true name he might go mad because it was so horrible. Of course Eragon doesn't have to worry about that because I'm sure his is really good.

The rock of kuthian.. remember how during the Banishing of names people forgot the names of the forsworns dragons. Maybe the Rock of Kuthian is the Eldunari of one of the Forsworns dragons. Thus when Eragon asks Oromis and Arya and they both say that it strikes a familiar chord (or something along those lines) but they just cant remember thats why!!! The banishing of names!!!

That's a good idea! I forgot about the part when Eragon said to Oromis the Rock of Kuthain. I also forgot about the Banishing of Names. Your idea would fit together perfectly!

I hope so this is the best theory im able to come up with at the moment.

Yeah, it was a good idea. I'm not shore what the Rock of Kuthain is, we'll just have to wait for Book Four to come out.

I'm just going to repeat something I mentioned sometime last year: I think that the ROK may have something to do with the dwarves as well as the elves. Dwarves cause it's a ROCK and Elves cause Arya and Oromis seem to remember the name from somewhere. Based on this, my conclusion is that the ancient dragons took the name, which is why the elves have forgotten it and soon with the help of Glaedr, Eragon will find the ROK and discover more Eldunari which will then help him defeat Galby.

That's a good idea, someone said earlier that the Rock of Kuthain might be the place where Galbatorix stores his dragon Heart of Hearts. I think the Rock of Kuthain will be something to boost Eragons power.

Yes your right, but I think the Rock of Kuthain is where Galbatorix keeps his dragon Heart of Hearts, and that it will boost Eragon's power and make him kill Galbatorix.

Do you really think that Galbatorix would hide his HOHs and not keep it with him? Somehow I can't imagine that..
