Post Dance of the Sands
The midday sun beat down on a lone traveler's shoulders. Fine grit cracked and hissed as the averagely sized man moved through a few simple stretches, his armor gleaming in the sunlight. He walked himself though a series of combat dances, patterns of blows and blocks that simulated fighting multiple opponents. His unarmed strikes sped up as he moved his strikes and blocks blurring together into what truly could be seen as a dance. Soon however he stopped, not wanting to tire himself for the time being.

Yoshi shifted shoulders slightly and checked the blades at his hip. He normally did not travel in armor, but had taken the time to stop and don it now. Something was out there, something he did not recognize nor like. It was dark, even under the blistering sun in the middle of the desert, it felt like a dark splotch against his mind. Part of him wished to seek it out, to hunt what ever it was down and kill it. Wiser parts of him however quelled those desires and gave him the patience to wait.

The sand beneath Yoshi's feet was hard packed. A flat bowl almost one hundred yards in diameter. All sides were ringed by sand dunes and large craggy rocks. It was a good place to confront whatever had been following him. Settling himself down onto the ground Yoshi let himself slip into a state of light zen meditation. He would know when anyone came near.

Ana banked to the right, reveling in the warmth of the sun that lit her golden scales and made her look like a second sun. She bugled happily, golden flames flickering against her teeth. She flipped upside down and presented her belly to the sun, then completed the flip and dove straight down, the wind howling past her body. She pulled up sharply and circled lazily over the ground below, watching the wildlife go about their business.

A flash of light out of the corner of her eye drew her up and she turned to face the source. She focused in on the tiny moving dot, it wasn't that hard to spot, what with the light it was throwing off. At first she thought it was a dragon, a hatchling from it's size, but then she saw it was a man wearing armor. She hesitated, about to fly far far away, but something about the man told her he wasn't an enemy. She drifted forward a few feet, still undecided, then threw caution to the wind and started towards him.

When she was a half mile away and some hundred feet above him, she tilted her wings and started circling down slowly, watching everything below her in case it was a trap. Who are you? she asked curiously when she was still far above him. She locked her wings so she was still circling, but went no lower. At this height she could easily escape any traps the man might have planned for her.

The harsh desert sun beat down upon the white dunes of the Hadarac, and upon the figure that moved between them. Vranga usually wore a black cloak, woven from the shadows inside his body, but not today, not for this hunt. His cloak instead was the same white as the sand dunes he was currently concealed in, the hood was pulled up along with a layer of cloth which protected him from breathing in sand as it was blown on the wind. The only thing visible that wasn't white was a wrap of black cloth covering his eyes, protecting them from the bright sunlight.

He was just over a hundred meters away from his target, a lone Rider with no Dragon in sight, he had been tracking him with his mind, always keeping just out of sight. He had no fear of keeping his mind open, for no one he had ever met could sense his mind, a perk of being part Lethrblaka it seemed. However, keeping his mind open appeared to have allowed the Rider to feel his presence, for the man had paused in a duneless bowl, and seemed to be waiting for something.

It was only then that he noticed the approaching Dragon, having been so focused for a moment on his prey he had failed to notice her descent. At first he almost assumed that this particular Dragon was bonded to the rider, it only made sense that such a pair be found together in so remote a location, but the female Dragon seemed to wary of the man, as though afraid. He dismissed his earlier assumption quickly, regardless of how unlikely it seemed, this could be little more than a coincidence. However, that did not change the fact that he was now at a distinct disadvantage, unless of course the Dragon wanted to eat this particular Rider for dinner, as he did, though that didn't seem likely either.

He let out a sigh and slowly let go the tension on his longbow, watching as it and the arrow that had been knocked on its string dissipated into a fine black mist. The mist gathered within his cloak and into his skin and he decided to wait a little longer, his mind open without fear of prying eyes, they might sense his presence, but it would be of little consequence at that point. He would find the right moment to strike, and he would take it. He need only to wait until the Dragon and Rider were closer to one another, and perhaps even distracted by each other.

Solarae snorted, jerking herself awake. A puff of flame escaped her nostrils as she did. Several conflicting scents invaded her nose, causing her to stare wildly around in indignation. However, she realized that the sources of all of the smells were at least a mile away from her. Sleep tended to make her overreact to things...

The orange dragoness roused herself the rest of the way, executing a langurous stretch that caused the sun to glitter across her scales like fire. She stood up and took in the scents more deeply, analyzing them. The dragon's was the most potent, but there were also two two-legs... human. One of them smelled a little off, but she couldn't place the reason for the oddity. Guess I'll need to investigate, she decided, spreading her wings and ruffling the sleep-stiff muscles a bit.

Solarae quickly made her way in the direction of the scents, making sure to keep downwind and well hidden from view among some rocks. Luckily, this part of the desert was not completely sand-covered, and the small dragoness was experienced in desert stalking. She took up position away from the group and waited, deciding to let their smells tell her what was going on for now.

One hundred feet below the armored man coiled a long and heavy snake like dragon. His copper scales, dulled now by the cool sand and dirt, The sand at this depth was a little cool for Yosei, but it was comfortable enough. Yoshi had asked him to make himself scarce for a little while, and so, Yosei was hiding. Napping actually.

As the brush of a new mind, one most certainly not the deep shadow he had felt earlier brushed Yoshi's mind he cracked one eye. Who I am is insignificant. A bit rude perhaps, but this dragon might scare off his prey… or whatever the shadows were. I am waiting for something, something not pleasant… If you wish to watch, please do so, but your distance will scare it off. It was both an invitation to stay but also a delicately put request for the dragon to fly a bit higher.

Yoshi was not mad, he knew full well what baiting a creature of darkness could bring. It could bring power. Or it could bring death. Yoshi was a warmonger however, and the only thing he craved more than power was glory. What better a way to attain such glory than to derive it from the blood of your enemies. Okay, so perhaps the foreign warlord was a bit mad, touched in the head by the gods of war some said, but he knew what he was doing.

As Yoshi spoke to the new dragon Yosei stirred from his sleep slightly, privately listening in on the conversation for a moment before sending out a tendril of his own consciousness towards the shining beast far above him. Forgive Yoshi, he is often rude when he should not be.

Ana stiffened when the man below politely, though just barely so, requested that she either land or fly higher so as not to spook some target of his. She huffed in indignation, about to fly away, when another mind touched her own. She could tell from the feel of the mind, the vastness and power concealed in it, that it was a dragon. She looked down at the man below with renewed curiosity. He was this other dragon's Rider.

Without hesitation, she locked her pale golden wings to her back and dropped to the ground. Barely lifting her wings from her back, she guided her descent to the ground, opening the thin membranes at the last second and alighting gently upon the ground. She wanted to rush to the other dragon immediately, but knew that if she did, their game would be up. So she contented herself with talking to him.

I can't believe it! Another dragon at last! she said excitedly, her thoughts bubbling up around the other's in her happiness. Who are you? Have you seen any other dragons around here? This is your Rider correct? Who are the two of you trying to capture? Why are you trying to capture them? How old- she continued, chattering incessantly as she settled into a low crouch, her bright eyes fixed on the Rider even though she was speaking with his dragon. She finally managed to repress her thoughts so she wouldn't overwhelm the male's mind, then calmly introduced herself. Sorry for my outburst, it's just... You're the first dragon I've ever met. I'm Anastasia, she said, her thoughts still racing like mad, but they were muted to where the other would only sense her happiness and excitement.

A slight wind began to pick up from Vranga's back and he released a breath that he hadn't realized he had been holding. The female Dragon had landed fairly quickly, and he was curious as to why. Not so curious as to risk breaking into her mind to find out, but almost enough to risk peeking over the last dune between him and his intended target. His fingers flexed in anticipation as he mentally shifted through the list of weapons at his disposal and ultimately settled on his favorite, as usual.

It took him only a moment to determine that the other Dragon did not actually intend to eat the Rider, and a fraction of a moment longer to determine that it was time to strike. He released the clasp at his neck that held his white cloak in place and let the wind carry it into the flat bowl of sand before him just as black mist started to form around him. He took a deep breath in and released it all at once, letting loose a dense cloud of black mist from both his mouth and skin which rolled over the sand dune like a wave following his cloak.

His breath was much like that of a Ra'zac in that it could put normal humans into a dream-like state. It wouldn't do much to the Rider, but it was the best moment to strike. More shadows formed from his hands and solidified into a pair of knives with a thin chain between them, one of which he threw in an arc towards the Rider's head, timing it so that it would strike just after the mist reached the man. As soon as the knife left his hand he disappeared into the mist, becoming one with it, and a moment later he appeared on the opposite side of the Rider as his first knife, the other still in his hand poised to strike.

The information from the various scents became much clearer as Solarae decreased the distance between her and the group. She had waited in silence for a moment, making sure she was undetected, before inching forward to the top of the rocky outcropping from which she could see all of the creatures she had smelled. A glittering, pale gold dragoness was the first thing she saw. The dragon was rather small and delicate-looking, and was resting on a sand dune near one of the two-legs. This two-leg looked and smelled like a human, but the scent was a little different from what Solarae was used to; a little foreign. His armor was foreign as well, at least as far as she could tell. She also caught another scent, this one muffled. It smelled like dragon, but distantly, as if the dragon was far away. However, the smell was coming from the small valley ahead of her, not in any direction she could sense. Perhaps a dragon had been in the area recently? Before she could puzzle out the situation, movement above the pair caught her attention.

The next thing she saw was the second two-leg, this one also human. However, she couldn't inspect him long before he emitted a large cloud of magical black mist. Something shot out of the mist at the foreign human, and the next thing she knew the second one had disappeared and reappeared down in the bowl formed by the rolling dunes, positioned behind the first human. Solarae rose her head just slightly, her curiosity piqued by the sudden action. Why had the second two-leg attacked the first? Were they enemies, working for different sides in a conflict? Just a random attack? Or was this something personal? The orange dragoness decided to wait and see what would happen next. Fights were always interesting, and if she was able to make a decision about who to help she could always get involved herself (a thrilling prospect, as the first human's unfamiliarity and the second's strange abilities would make them fascinating opponents).
