Questions about dragons
Hi,
greetings from slovenia, firstly i apologise if this was already talked about, but i could not find it.
i have two questions:
1.)we know Eragons case was special, but how does person who touches the egg knows he is chosen as dragons rider or is rider who carries the egg the one who gets the sign becouse in books or movie dragon did not hatched moments after being touched by his/hers rider?
2.)when dragon hatches does he learn language and about the world from its rider or some knowlage is already there?

Re: Questions about dragons
The first half of this is in English for the convinience of our Moderators, The second in Slovenian for your ease of reading.
If memory serves me right, and someone can correct me on this, the Dragon waits for the right person before hatching. They will sometimes wait decades if not centuries. The Dragons have their own language which is similar to broken English I would say, but mostly consists of desciptive terms based on the item, person, place, or time they are talking about. The language they 'speak' is more or less learned from their rider and the minds it converses with. So with that the Dragon can very well be multilingual (Example, they'd know the Ancient Language, Slovenian, English and their own Dragon-speak) and be perfectly intelligent enough to hold that much knowledge.
=================================

Re: Questions about dragons
Hi,
thank you for your answers, but please do not translate into slovenian language becouse google translate is bad in translating.
thank you for answering second question, but i think you did not understand my first one so i will ask simpler:
How does person that touched the egg know that dragon choosen him if he/she does not hatch immediately as seen in cases of movie Saphira and book Saphira becouse i do not think that riders in old days give egg too someone for some time then to another person for some time?

Re: Questions about dragons
Welcome to SaphiraForums
You do bring a good point there and I m not sure that it as ever been correctly answered. We do know that the elves were trying to get a rider and were getting all the childrens to touch it, but that did not appear to have a succesful end result. The chosen rider might just need to stay long enough next to the egg for it to be ready to hatch.
It could have been as well the Saphira was just very picky haha

Re: Questions about dragons
alex thank you, but in old days there had too be something like dragon hatches seconds after being touched by its rider or there is some sign that dragon has choosen its rider, but will hatch later.

Re: Questions about dragons
Maybe, but I can't recall ever reading about it. The elves were in a hurry to find a rider whom the egg would hatch for. It is possible that following the events that led to the downfall of the dragonriders that lots of knowledge were lost. I would surmise as well that the dragonriders were less in a hurry to have new riders when they were not in conflict and they could have a potential rider wait a long time.
It could have been as well that Saphira had been in her egg for a very long time.

Re: Questions about dragons
i would kinda disagree that lots of knowledge was lost firstly Oromis and Glaedr had knowledge of how did choosing worked in old days, but Paolini decided not too share this with us . I agree that Dragon riders were less in hurry, but still i belive they did not carry egg from house too house it would take too much time and riders were needed probably somewere else also. The way i think they did it is they come with few eggs into city and kids lined up and each touched the eggs, but here some sign would be needed if dragon does not hatch seconds after being touched by its rider example: kid 1 touches the egg nothing happens and this goes on then kid 17 touches egg start moving and hatchling is not intrested in kid 17 so one of 16 kids is hatchlings rider and i doubt all kids will stay too the end of this event so you will need to find its rider and i doubt that riders and others know where all 16 kids live. Im thinking about that when kid touches the egg, hatchling gives a sign to a rider or his dragon that he choosen his rider or gedwëy ignasia appears for short period on kids palm as a sign.
