Double bass drums, heavy bass guitar, consistent melody with a big chorus, lots of flats, huge amps and all the electric guitars you can get your hands on. lovely.

Mmm, sorry I kind of go for metal more. Stuff like system of a down, sonata arctica, disturbed, powerman 5000, nightwish, sigh, all that kind of stuff. You probably wouldn't like them.

Re: What are the ingredients to make good music?
I don't really care much about lyrics- I mean right now Im listening to a song in Finnish (Kuolema Tekee Taiteilijan) and I have no idea what it means, but I still like the song.
By the way, please try not to double post.

Re: What are the ingredients to make good music?
Rhythm is not everything. I'm a musician in real life and I can tell you that the key to making good music is combination and diversity. I constantly say that in order to have a good sound, you have to have bass, strings, and two different kinds of wind sounds. That combination produces the perfect sound for any type of band, wheter it be symphonic or rock.

Re: What are the ingredients to make good music?
Well, you have to have a good melody, at least a bit of rhythm, a nice electric guitar, a bass, and hopefully, a choir. Don't care much about a person's voice as it doesn't require much talent to sing, but it takes a lot of talent and skill to play that guitar solo.

Re: What are the ingredients to make good music?
For example, you are in a four-person group. Let's make this a rock band. One person has to play bass, which could be found in the drums. Another has to play a string, electric guitar. Now, you have the makings of a good band. But in order for it to sound perfect, since a bass guitar and electric can't do much sitting out there alone, you have to have two singers. Take Linkin Park as an example. One person is in charge of the raps and lower notes, the other is charge of higher notes. That is what I mean by two different wind sounds. It allows for more fluency and one always balances out the other, so the two sound like they should be playing together. Do I make myself clear?

Re: What are the ingredients to make good music?
Raps? What the? And bass is usually a type of string... So guitar and bass with some chavvy rapper guy and someone who's balls haven't dropped yet is a rock band? lol Ok random rant over.... randomness... this wasn't mean in an offensive way. hehe.

Well, different people do have different opinions, so no one is completely right or wrong in what music is. It depends who you are, not what it has to be. All I can say is, love the music you love, if you don't like a certain type, well there you go. I will listen to about anything.

Re: What are the ingredients to make good music?
All I've got to say, is that if you do not play together, and are not playing with other people, then they song will sound choppy and bad. As a drummer, I have to make sure I'm keeping with everyone and everyone is keeping with me.

Don't care much about a person's voice as it doesn't require much talent to sing, but it takes a lot of talent and skill to play that guitar solo. First I just want to say that I am slightly insulted by your comment that it doesn't take much talent to sing! Yeah, anyone can belt out a song or two, but there is a difference between that and actually BEING a singer and a vocalist. Someone once told me that the voice is the hardest instrument to master, and I completely agree. With an instrument you can change the strings, fix the cork, replace a faulty key, or get a new reed. There is nothing you can do to fix your vocal chords! You have to work with what you've got. With your voice, everything is internal. The way you stand, the way you breath, the way you shape your mouth, the way you do everything has an effect on the sound you produce. But you still have to hear the pitches in your head and internalize everything or you will never reach your full talent. Every voice is different, and it can take years to hone your talent...it can take a life time. With instruments, each is fundamentally the same. There is only so much you can learn. It is a completely different process! Anyways, sorry. I will stop now. Rant over. Back to the topic at hand... I think that there are many key "ingredients" to "good" music. It depends a lot on the genre of music, but for now I'm excluding classical music and going with regular bands. I think that the most important thing is Vocals---if the lead singer has a crappy voice, no amount of instrumentals will cover it. Plus, any good band should have harmonies to add to the overall quality of the sound.
After that comes these: *rythem---if the song is just a bunch of random instruments and voices doing different things at different tempos it just wouldn't work. I'm not meaning rythem in the sense that it has to have a beat that is totally obvious to this going to want to listen!!
*instrumentals---Instruementals (or lack of instrumentals) sets the tone of the song. Basically, it is what makes a song belong to a certain genre (them and lyrics of course) Well, that's my opinion anyways. There are lots of other things I could go into, but I won't. Maybe later.
