No, I think anybody who is the next rider needs a fairly big role in all the books, not just the last two.

He isn't neccessarily good with a blade, he's just an elf. When Eragon gains elven powers, he can defeat him easily.

yeh, if eragon was as rubbish wit a sword as nu born baby, he wudnt have gotten that much better than he was already. and he doesnt defeat vanir easily, cos the fight goes on 4 ages b4 it stops. Vanir only gets beaten cos eragon has the determination frm the taunts he sent his way and the fact his back isnt maimed now.

That doesn't change the fact that eragon is stronger than him though.

I think the next rider may be loyal to Galby as well... And vanir was good remember? The technical skill of Murtagh i think was said... he was good among elves.

Me too, it would mean eragon would have to do more, and people would look up to him more, instead of having 2 riders on the varden's side.

If Vanir was with him, elven spellcasters would be able to tell. I believe the Twins had an advantage because they are 2 minds, versus just 1. Vanir would have killed Eragon, or captured him, given the chance, but perhaps he's just spying on Islanzadi . . .

he was upset w/Eragon because he thought he was too weak to be any good against Galby. Once Eragon got stronger, Vanir realized that they had a chance. Of course now we realize he still sucks, couldn't beat Murtagh, and currently has no chance against Galby. Why is Eragon so weak? It's weird...

hes not that weak, he was tired when he fought murtagh, but i agree. he could never beat galby right now, and has a lot of training to get on with!

If the other human Riders were regarded the same as elven Riders, they would have to be as strong. However, Eragon was strong for himself, and for humans, but until the Blood-Oath Celebration, he was still really weak. Durza played around w/ him during their fight, and so did Arya and Vanir. After the blood-Oath celebration, he got his butt whooped by Murtagh. He was tired, but he would have still had a chance for a couple of minutes. Anyone have an idea what the deal is w/ his weakness?

and it takes time for the dragons magic to take effect. and the reason he couldn't beat murtagh is 'casue murtagh trained in drak magic, been sword trained by glaby, and lots of other tricks galby show him.

mayb the twist in the last book will be that he dies, the last egg is broken by murtagh hu then rapes galby and kills him, but saphira lives and goes wit roran... but i dont no if that last part wud work cos roran and saphira have no special bond

That is certainly VERY twisted. Vanir has years, and years of experience with the sword. Remember elves are inmortal so of course he was better than Eragon. I just hated the fact that he constantly humilliated and diminished Eragon out of spite. He is an arrogant jerk and part of the group of elves that quietly did not accept Eragon as the new Rider. I loved the fact that Saphira admonished Eragon and reminded him that SHE had been presented to many elves and that she CHOSE Eragon, above the many hopefuls that touched the egg.

Yeah i liked that part and the part when saphira pointed her claw at Vanirs chest and said "Dead."

I do not have the books; (however I did buy both of them as a birthday present to my 2nd daughter whom I have dragged in to the Inheritance Fever) so I cannot go back to the parts I love. I did purchase the cd"s in order to be able to listen to them while I drive, while I clean and cook, while I am in that point of trying to fall asleep and actualliy getting to sleep, while I take a bath, etc.. and the audio are just fabulous. I wish you could hear that particular part when Saphira says "dead" to Vanir. It's SCARY!

Yes I am, but that doesn't keep me from enjoying life, and being able to chat and share thoughts, ideas and opinions with other smart, inquisitive young people like the ones in this message board. That's one of the joys of books. It crosses so many barriers; such as genertions, age, culture, beliefs, social status, race and lots more.

You know, teenagers usually complain about adults; I guess that's part of being a teenager,. However, my teenage daughter's friend enjoy hanging out in our place. They invite me into many of their conversations, book discussion, movies, music, study groups, pizza and so on.
So you know what, I am blessed for having started my family at a young age. I do not regret it!!!
