I just wanted to know who is smart because apparently I'm one of the smartest in my school...........................and I don't even try that hard

Not really, our entire school did a test (Dux) to see who the smartest person was and I was one of the finalists. What about this- Do you consider youself smart? If yes, then you are smart. I hope you get what I just wrote because I dont lol well.............I kinda do.............or not

yes i am smart....i guess....if you call being a straight A's high honors student smart.....then yes....

People think I'm one of the oldest in my class but I'm actually the youngest (I think) just because I'm smarter them so I'm like "What! I don't turn 13 till next May!" so they look at me and think I'm lying

i picked yes cuz i know im not the smartest person in the world or anything but i know if i can make it thus far in nursing school then i cant be too dumb!! lol but i also am glad cuz i also have common sense and a lil smartness (lol) so im glad for that lil trade off


aang argh dont say that about ur self i mean like kotor said we are all smart, and we all have something that we are REALLY good at!!

common sense and street smarts are in my opinion more important than book smart. I'm good at common sense but my family is in the very small but fortunate middle class so i would get ripped apart on the streets.

I will say this as many times as necessary, and I ask people to at least think about it.

There is no ready definition of being smart. A person can have much knowledge, can be good with people, can be a hard and skillful worker, can learn easily, can have common sense etc. All those could make a person "smart" in one sense of the word, or a combination of those factors. Every person is unique and has different strengths and weaknesses. So how could there be a standard, some threshold of our being where we either are or aren't smart?

It is impossible to measure something as dynamic as an individual human being with such a static and general term.

There's one thing everyone is better at then everyone else, and that is being themselves.

Kinda. if you can say an IQ of 139 is smart then yes

I don't think that IQ and tests has so much to do with how smart you are.
Maybe a little, but tests and who's best in school and that hasn't so much
with smartness to do...
Lets say like this, almost anyone can memorise stuff but that hasn't to do
with smartness right?
But not anyone can understand what you are doing and why, it's not as
simple as memorise stuff for a test without even know what your'e doing and then let it go when the test is over.
But not even that is all the way smartness, just a part of it.
I think that many people actually is smart but have to little self-confidence
to let it out and show them how smart they really are.
And don't think I'm writing this becouse I'm stupid becouse I'm not, I'm
one of the "smarter" pupils in our class but I still have that problem I'm
talking about so please always think that you're the smartest whatever someone else is saying. (but don't ignore it either you'll may need it somehow)

As far as with the whole IQ topic,

Basically an IQ is determined (varies by test) as mental age / real age.
(thats as much as I know off the top of my head right now, go wiki it if you want more)
Its a bell shaped distribution (aka standard deviation, stats heh) where the mean and median is designed to be 100. It has a standard deviation of 20 (i think).
Basically that means 68%(about) of people score within the range 80 through 120.
98% score within 80 through 120.
So having above 120 would put you within the top 17% (32/2, you want the upper tail, the other half represents everyone below 80).
Having an IQ of 140 is extremely rare. My IQ was 124 the last i tested (I only took a web based test, not any 'real' test).
So, what does this mean anyways? IQ scores represent your ability to reason and not what you know. People with higher IQ's are more adept at learning and problem solving. They therefor do better in school with less effort. With that being said, if your IQ is a bit low, you can still succeed, you'll just have to study more. If you are below the age of 16 I wouldn't pay too much attention to IQ tests yet, most of the ones you find on the internet are for adults (remember mental age / age). Yes, I know sometimes observing the actions of adults could lead you to beleive otherwise, you generally get "smarter" with age to an extent. You defiantly gain more wisdom (which is not the same as intelligence).

As far as me, I am smart- I have a good ability to reason; however, I have a specialized area of wisdom.
I am well educated in technology and I'm also somewhat good in math.
I have a 3.8 cumulative gpa as a senior in college, working on my bach in information systems. I'm at the top 10% of the senior class and the top student in my division.
I'm terrible at expressing my self orally and I'm very shy. I'm also lazy, so I do bad with homework. So far I managed to turn in about 87% of my homework assignments on time, and 95% turned in late (which doesn't help much since they usually don't count for a grade). I'm also very goofy and geeky at times, but I got that from my family.
I have many friends who are not as bright (being nice) as me. They always pick on me for being the first to finish his program assignments and making perfect grades on my programming tests. I always pick on them when they beg me for assistance, I'm always running around the class offering help. The professors have recruited me to next years programming contest team.

As a child I would always play with electricity, I've probably been electrically shocked thirty times. I would wire up my club houses with electricity and was always taking thing apart. My dad had me hooked on NES before I could read the menus. My parents defiantly knew I was weird child, they only hoped I was smart too .

I'm very bad at publicly expressing myself which is why I ran for CIS club secretary, so now I have to communicate with other officers and members, read things to the club, and submit minutes to the division chair. I was also inducted into the honor society (being top 10% with 3.6+ gets you noticed) and I may decide to run for offices there.

Your ability to reason(IQ) is important, but its not anymore important than your ability to aquire wisdom and your willpower. Think of it like a triangle of power.

You can have the reasoning to suceed, but not the willpower to put forth the fruits of your reasoning.
You could have the wisdom to analyze the situation but not the reasoning to reach a solution.
You could have the willpower to do anything you wanted but not the reasoning to figure what or the wisdom to reference for ideas.
