So I Walked
OOC: Sorry this one's only for Astralwing ... we promised IC: I trudged quietly through the snow as night crept its way into the woods. Carrying the frozen white roses from my mother’s grave, I paused for a moment to look at them. They looked so beautiful with the evening frost on them. Almost as if nothing, not even time, could make them wilt. These were the old roses. I had just put a new bouquet of half a dozen, still white, that smelled so beautiful; nothing like my mother. She never really smelled of anything. Accept sweat, when she was helping father outside in the summer in the years before he left… he wasn’t even angry. His face was so serene that day. It almost scared me, the day he left. All of the memories I have of him are fuzzy, splotched with black in the places where I wasn’t paying attention. All of them accept for the ones of his face, so serene and calm when he got on that beautiful black horse and left on that rainy, frozen day. I was angry then; angry, confused, scared, but most of all reluctant. The man I hated was finally gone, but his stench was still there, still in my mind. That is until the day he came back for me… two years later… when I was just starting to forget.
Okay, I thought, enough reminiscing. That’s the past now. We don’t have to worry about it. Yes, I talk to myself in third person. I looked up, away from the frozen roses and plowed on through the knee high barrier of snow. That was the past. It doesn’t matter anymore… It doesn’t. Why would it… I looked down at the snow where my feet would be if not for the white ice burying them. Where was I going? Why was I walking through the cold just to put flowers that would dye in a day on a dead woman’s grave? Who even was the woman under the frozen dirt who had birthed me almost nineteen years ago? What was she thinking about on the day he left? When had he decided that he would leave to join that rodent king? Ugh, I grunted, too many questions to be answered. And plus I don’t really care anyway. Lie. I do care. I just don’t feel like showing it right now. Actually, I never feel like showing it.
So I walked, and just kept walking; not knowing where I was going, why I was going that way. Just walking for what seemed like hours. I stopped to rest for a bit since my feet began to hurt from the compressed cold that surrounded them. I sat down on an ice-covered log, waiting, thinking. I walked on for another hour or so, then decided it was time to stop. Okay, I began, time to come back to reality. Where am I? I looked around for anything familiar, but nothing seemed to catch my attention. Then, I started back through the tracks I’d already made. Let’s go back to Start, I said to myself.
I made it back to the log where I’d sat to rest and scanned the area. Nothing yet. Looking at the crevice where my body heat had melted the ice, I saw a patch of snow that was a light blue color. I leaned away from the log so that I could see past it and realized that it wasn’t on the log, it was behind it. Raising my knees high to take larger steps, I quickly made my way past the log and to the blue snow. I knelt down and brushed away the soft ice with my leather-covered hands. My eyes widened slightly when I discovered that there was more under the surface. It wasn’t snow though. It was some type of glossy blue stone. I untied the thin strips of string and removed the leather patches from my hands. They were shacking, not only from the cold, as I slowly began to slide them across the smooth, warm surface of the rock. I picked it up out of the large drift that it was settled into and held it close. I heard something, a beat of some kind. I leaned my ear closer to the stone and almost squeaked when I heard it coming from inside the object… a heart beat.

Re: So I Walked
OOC: Well, you have to allow other people to join, unless no one does. So it has to be open for others, sorry kiddo, that's the rule. And your charries need to be in third person, because it has other charries involved and it would get confusing. Sorry. So fix those things first and then it'll be good to go!

OOC: Okay fine I'll re-do it. It's open to anybody who wants to join and I'll re-do it in third person tomorrow.

So are you going to continue this story in Fanfiction? Because if so, I would be happy to move it for you.

Re: So I Walked
OOC: Okay here's more! Oh! I'm so excited! It's just so fun!
IC: Racing as fast as my feet would carry me and the twenty pound stone (which I now figured out is an egg), I sprinted the entire way to an abandoned farm house that I knew was nearby. I burst through the blocked off opening with elf-like perfection and landed like a ninja jumping from a ceiling rafter (only I was holding an egg… and my hair was all over the place… but I still don’t pant from sprinting… yay!). My breath could be easily seen, even though there was a lack of gasping from the hard-core running I’d just done, so I pulled my collar over my mouth and nose, and hugged the egg more tightly to my chest. Someone’s here, I thought as I looked around inconspicuously. I tried to pretend like I was looking for a flat place to set up for the night, and I am quite a good actress if I do say so myself.
Night crept in quickly as the sun faded away over the gleaming horizon. I didn’t have time to watch it disappear though. I had to deal with the large almost invisible object that was lying next to me by my adorably tiny fire that I’d started somehow. I scanned the inside of the house again and still didn’t see what being’s aura was filling the whole place with their beautiful smell. I looked intently at the stone next to me. So I wonder what you are… I thought as I quietly pushed some of the twigs from the fire and made small embers dance into the cold air. One of those moments, I mouthed to myself. I watched silently as the yellow sparks floated and disappeared quickly into the sky. I noticed movement then, and jumped quickly to my feet. Taking a defense stance, I spread my legs far apart on the snow to create a barrier between the wonderfully smelling aura and the rock/egg I’d just found. They’re not stealing this, the words were wide and red on the black screen in my mind. A dark human looking figure stepped into the little moonlight that was outside the farm house.
I watched the object intently but let out a small gasp when the facial characteristics and body posture rang a loud, ear-piercing whistle in my mind and ears. “It’s been a while, Lilan.”

Re: So I Walked
OOC: Here's the next section. It's kinda long ... sorry. It's kinda random to so... yeahIC: I stared in awe at dark brown eyes that were covered by the thin black ringlets of his hair. Indeed, it had been a while. Almost three years. I hadn’t seen him since the day I’d escaped from Uru-baen on my sixteenth birthday. He’d watched me the day my father and I had our death match, even though neither of us died. Well, he died a couple months later in a battle with Galbatorix, but you understand. He took another step forward and the tiny slice of the moon that hung high in the sky enveloped his entire cloaked body in soft white light. How ironic, I thought as I stood there just staring at him. I realized this and quickly turned my stare into a dark glower. He snapped back with the same old blank expression, As always, I thought.
A sudden wave of memory suffocated me until it covered the entire image of him in my mind. A distant memory began like a play on a stage. After that, I didn’t know what was going on. I remember seeing his face turn to a slight unawareness and he took a couple more steps forward to catch me. I didn’t realize I was falling until I felt my knees buckle and smack the hard ice/ground beneath me. Then it became a theater in my mind, memories splashing all over like a rapid hurricane. One memory came into view and quickly took center-stage:
“Wake up, child!” the soldier barked as he pulled the blanket out from underneath her, “Get up and get to work!” Lilan rolled to her other side to avoid a migraine. The soldier looked down fiercely at her, “I said get up!” He forced his heavy boot into a nerve on her back twice, one on either side of her spine. She coughed slightly and forced her arms to push her scrawny body upward.
She stood tall, evening out her shoulders and straightening her back. Even though she was only fourteen, she was tall and deathly underfed. Her head reached to the soldier’s chin. A fitting height, she thought. What scared the soldiers was that she showed no physical emotion; not when you slapped her, not when you pushed her, not even when you stabbed her ten times. She just stands there with dead eyes, staring at you. It was terrifying to them. They couldn’t understand how she, a girl, could endure such hardship. Even for a man, it would push their limit.
The soldier glared down to her. “Get to work,” he said as darkly as he could. She stared up at him through her red bangs, making him gasp for a moment from fright. Then she sleepily walked towards her door and carelessly motioned for the soldier to exit the room, which was actually a prison cell, so that she could get dressed into her work uniform.
He marched out firmly and up the stairs without looking back. Smart boy, Lilan thought as she walked back in and closed the wooden door behind her. It clicked loudly so she knew it had locked. She didn’t care though because, if her magic didn’t work to re-open it, she could easily just kick it down.
She changed into her work rags that were now brown from cleaning the dirty floors every day. Quietly unlocking the door, she floated silently out of the small stone room and skipped her way up the stairs. She stealthily made her way past all of the soldiers in the dinning hall and into what she called the muck room where her cleaning necessities were stored. Just keep breathing, she repeated to herself. Grabbing the bucket and brush from their places in the closet, she stretched her muscles and cracked her uneven bones, thus making loud breaking sounds from the adjustments. She tip-toed to the main room where only the king and Foresworn walked, their shoes not being as messy and dirty as the soldiers’. She walked in staring down at the floor, her shoulders, neck, and back still in perfect alignment. She glanced at the long table where her father and the rest of the Foresworn and the king were seated. Realizing that she was interrupting, she quietly turned around and began walking back out.
“Ah, Lilan,” Galbatorix said in his deep, lulling voice, “We were just discussing you.” She stopped then and looked directly ahead of her. If anyone could get her in a bad mood in under a second, it was him. She turned on her heels and walked to a place a few feet away from the empty chair at the end of the banquet table. Galbatorix motioned for her to sit, but she stood her ground firmly, staring straight into his dark eyes. Her face had the tiniest hint of irritation that the king loved to see. It appeared every time he spoke around her.
She let out a small sigh and crossed her arms when he faked a smile at her. “Please sit,” he urged, not sounding polite but not controlling either. When she didn’t respond he breathed out loudly and slouched back against the tall chair that sat high over his head, resting his face on his vertical arm. Great, Lilan grumbled, he’s thinking. “What if I let you have the day off?” he pursed rubbing his chin. He gave a low questioning glance to Lilan. She kept up the same dead expression, so he bid higher, “The entire week.” He shot her father a glance who sat three chairs down from him on the right side of the table. He stared back blankly at the king, no refusal or acceptance to the offer. Then Galbatorix swung his head to his right, behind his chair to the boy standing next to him. “What do you think, Murtagh? Is that too much?”
Murtagh glanced at Galbatorix who had a wondering expression. He glanced at Lilan from under his black brows and moved his hands to attention behind his back, “I think that’s a bit much, sir.” Lilan glared at him with fierce ice colored eyes. Who does he think he is?! she yelled in her head. He’s the son of Morzan, daughter, her father burned into her thoughts. Scowling now to him, Lilan forced him out with all her might. Galbatorix saw a small mental battle between them, and watched in amusement as the strain on both faces worsened with every second. Finally Lilan’s father quietly gasped for air as he turned away from his daughter’s cold, triumphant eyes.
“Well done,” said the king. He clapped and forced a smile to the rest of the Foresworn to follow. They all clapped, that is everyone but her father and Murtagh. “Now, back to business,” Galbatorix said in a gruff voice, sitting forward and leaning on the table. Neither Lilan nor Murtagh were paying attention, for they were now glaring at each other. They weren’t fighting mentally though, but there was something there. Like they were fighting over who was the more powerful child. Galbatorix decided that she wasn’t welcome anymore if she was going to play with his rag dolls. He excused her quickly and she slipped into the kitchen without a word.
Finally, she thought as she went to fill her wash bucket with water. Shoving her sleeves up past her elbows, she filled it with splashes of water from the pump. She walked back through the doorway, past the crowd at the table, and into the dinning hall with all of the soldiers still yelling and drinking. She sped past them all, keeping her eyes locked on the staircase hidden past the wall on her right. She sighed and turned to glance at the crowd of idiots that filled the entire room. She didn’t do it to look at them though. Oh no, she did it to inconspicuously check behind her, where she found Murtagh leaning against the wall watching the soldiers. Rolling her eyes as she turned back to face forward, she ducked down onto the stairs that led to her cell.
We’ll start here I guess, she sighed after opening the door into her dark room. She left the door open to make sure no one would sneak in unseen, Which is practically impossible. She grinned to herself at the knowledge of being able to sense peoples’ aura. She knelt down and, dipping the coarse brush into the bucket, she began vigorously scrubbing. After about a minute she started humming, which slowly turned into murmuring, then into quiet singing. It was her lullaby from when she couldn’t go to sleep. I guess it rubs off, she thought. She sighed and continued singing:Hush little child, don’t say a word. Mama’s gonna bye you a mocking bird. And if that mocking bird doesn’t sing, Mama’s gonna bye you a lovely ring. And if that lovely ring doesn’t shine, Mama’s gonna bye you golden chime. And if that gold gets rusted and fades, Mama’s gonna tie your hair in braids. And if those braids get knotted and messy, Mama’s gonna bye you a hoarse named Chessy. And if that hoarse gets wild and mean, Mama’s gonna make you a coat that’s green. And if that coat starts to lose it’s color, Mama’s just gonna make you another. But if that one does the same thing too, just remember that I love you.Lilan stopped abruptly before finishing the ‘I love you’ line and looked thoughtfully at the floor where she’d scrubbed. She could just barely see her blurry reflection from the liquid mirror, but she was there none-the-less. She watched as another image came into view over the small looking glass. Murtagh stood behind her, leaning over her slightly to see her work. He was wearing his serene mask and his hands were still behind his back.

Re: So I Walked
OOC: This part is the end of the memory. Enjoy! IC: She jumped up, unaware of his presence and bowed slightly; he was still higher on the food chain. He stood up straight and returned the small bow with his own. “You still have the day off,” he breathed bluntly. Lilan took a step back, creating a foot more space between them. He lowered his head so that she could only see his eyes from underneath his dark brows. She returned the threatening glower with a bit more edginess in her cold blue eyes. Murtagh lifted an eyebrow and took on a fighting stance that was very familiar to Lilan; it was the first one he always used. She took the stance that the king used against Murtagh when they were training. Situating her left foot behind her right, she lifted her right arm and pointed her fingers to the ceiling.
His eyes twitched milliseconds before he lashed out a hand-and-a-half length sword from his knee high boot. Lilan dodged easily and slid to where the tiny candle that lit her room sat on a short counter. Her eyes ricocheted off the candle to Murtagh then back to the candle, a diminutively devilish grin wrinkling her elfish features. The rag uniform that scarcely hung on literally by a thread tore and slumped to the floor where Lilan had landed.
Murtagh’s face was still blank when he stabbed at her again. Before she could reach for the candle, he sliced her wrist. She hardly cringed when the blood started to seep out. Shifting her body weight, she again avoided another slice at her neck. Although this time, she didn’t land with the grace and balance of her last escape. He had somehow managed to catch her ankle and pulled it towards him. Her face hit the stone floor with a loud ‘BAM’ and her left eye went blurry with red. She vigorously lifted her body back up only to slip again from Murtagh’s grip. He yanked her flailing body across the bumpy stones and snatched up her wild wrist, making the laceration leak more. Lilan regained her poise quickly and sat parallel to Murtagh’s face. He inspected the wound carefully, tilting it and applying more pressure. His dark brown eyes looked sincerely into hers as he loosened his grip. Then consciousness swept back over her and the first figure that became clear was his face only millimeters away from hers.

Re: So I Walked
OOC: Okay this one has a bit more reminiscing but I tried not to put in too much. Lol this one's my favorite... mainly cuz the endings funny. IC: I stared dumbfounded into his deep brown eyes. So it was a dream, I thought as reality gave me whiplash when it finally caught on that he was holding me. I sat up quickly, almost slamming my head into his jaw. After scrabbling out of his grip, I scanned my belongings for anything that looked out of place. Specifically checking for the egg. I found it still in the spot I’d set it, close to the fire, before my mind rudely interrupted my consciousness.
My luggage check had lasted but a second, considering I had only two things (the egg and my large leather saddle bag where I’d put the roses… and kept my food). I turned back toward Murtagh, taking a safety scooch away, and sat cross-legged on the frozen dirt; he was sitting on a thigh-high rock with his elbows resting on his knees. We stared at each other darkly for a little over a minute. Then he slid down off his seat and mirrored me, who was starting now to recoil like a snake preying on a mouse, ready to strike if he made any sudden movements.
He didn’t, thankfully. Otherwise I would’ve had to kick his butt in a duel (which I could easily do). Instead, we just stared at each other for another five minutes or so. A sudden thought wedged it’s way into my head. A memory actually of when he and I had first met. We were both nine (he’s a few months older than me) and I had just arrived in Uru’baen. Our fathers’ dragged us to the main room and locked us in for what seemed like eternity, in reality only about ten minutes. We were kids and we had a choice to make: either shake hands and learn the others name now, or stay locked in there until we did. We didn’t care to do either so we just went with the easiest, get it over with (we agreed on this about two minutes into the detention). We both walked close enough to shake hands and in brutal politeness said our names. We both nodded to each other before trudging over to the tall wooden door. He forced his miniature-sized fist against the lumber and I rammed my foot in hard, making a loud crack and splitting the timber; we were making it obvious we didn’t want to be in there anymore.
His father cracked open the door just enough that his face was all we saw. His eyes were even deader than my fathers. “Done already,” he spat in a dry voice. Murtagh nodded his head and I just stared flatly. “Impossible,” he spat again. Murtagh looked down sourly in irritation. But I wasn’t going to listen to Morphan or Morcan or whatever this idiot’s name was. So I curled my hand around the knob and jerked it shut, almost wedging Marvin’s face between the hard, cold stone and the wood. A loud coarse yell came from the other side before a hard yank on the handle made me jump (I was still holding onto the knob). I forced the door back shut with an echoing slam and a small battle in sewed. Murtagh helped me keep the door shut the second time and I lifted my right hand and placed it on the door. Closing my eyes and remembering the language my father had taught me when I was younger, I said ‘push away’ in an unknown tongue. Loud bangs and crashes followed thereafter and I heard a curse ring through the dinning hall where the calamity had occurred.
Stomps were stopped after three echoed through to us. “Let them be,” I heard my father say. A few seconds later, footsteps faded away and when we didn’t hear anymore coming or going, we relaxed our tense muscles to their regular levels. I looked to Murtagh, staring back at me in awe. “What?” I asked nimbly. “You…” he stuttered, “you know the ancient language.” I blinked at him once and he suddenly hugged me, forcing my face into his shoulder (he’s always been a head taller than me). It was a solid embrace. If I hadn’t still been slightly on guard, I seriously think he could’ve cracked one of my ribs. I had no idea why he was so excited that I knew whatever this ancient language was but I didn’t really care at the time. “You can teach me!”… Oh, that’s why. I stared up at him blankly. I wanted to scream at him, just to scream, but thought it best to retain myself.
We made a good team back then.
Anyway, back to the present now. We stared at each other until Murtagh blinked. A victorious grin plastered my face and he gave a soft smile, those ones that always make you want to cry. I looked away to the small house that leaned over us and he followed my gaze. “Do you know who lived there?” I didn’t look at him when I answered flatly, “No. It obviously hasn’t been inhabited by people for some years.” I looked longingly at the browned straw that sat on the roof of the hut, frozen in the cold darkness.
Just as I was about to go into another flashback, I felt a pair of cold lips softly press against my cheek. My eyes widened in disbelief at the reality of the situation. He kissed me… he was kissing me… he was kissing me!

Re: So I Walked
NOTE TO READER(S): If any of you want more explanation on the background/setting of the story, then please ask. I’m usually not too good at adding that stuff in cuz I like to leave it for other peoples imaginations… I’m just weird like that. P.S. Thanks Astral! It pleases me to know that someone likes it. IC: I swayed my head away from his caring touch and turned to give a confused glare. His fiendish eyes stared deep and I was paralyzed for a split second, looking at the stars glinting off his ember irises. There was still a tiny hint of sadness that wouldn’t leave and I felt like I was the making of it. I didn’t like Murtagh, but I disliked people feeling sad around me more.
So I pushed my cheek back onto his lips and stared at the house again, already foreseeing the smirk that wrinkled his face. I shut my eye as the skin puffed up when he pushed against it a little harder. Then he backed off and gave a slick smile; there it was. I rolled my eyes, turning around and rubbing my hands over the fire. My torso was actually the coldest but it would heat up soon enough, I thought. A tense shiver shocked my back and I pulled my cloak closer around me. He moved to sit next to me and took off his cloak, draped it around both of us, and curiously noticed the stone that sat to the left of the warm orange flame.
I looked hesitantly between him and the egg as we sat quietly in front of the fire, unsure of what he was going to do. He stared at it for sometime, then looked carelessly into the colorful heat. His dark eyes snuck to his right to meet mine with the flames dancing inside them. Giving a soft smile that glowed from the light, he sent me a small wink. “Don’t worry,” he whispered close to my ear, “I wont tell.”

Re: So I Walked
Heh, I actually find this pretty interesting, and usually I'm not all for most fanfics [one in few do I read on Shur'tugal] so yeah, it has something about it. Probably because your writing seems devoted for some reason.
I do have questions. First, why is her [it's Lilan, right?] father always in her head? Or around? And who is he? For a moment I thought it was Galbatorix o.0. And secondly, is she an elf? And thirdly, does she have an egg with her? Sorry, I just read the first two earlier and really fast cause I was seriously multitasking [as always].
Anyway, your writing is fairly well, nothing to complain about, really. Your grammar is nearly perfect. Your paragraphs fail at times though. When someone else is speaking, make sure you make a new paragraph unless the words are being explained by the protagonist or remembered. And remember to make them as well, there's nothing wrong with the nurtured balance of big paragraphs and small ones here and there ;]
Anyway, keep going!

Re: So I Walked
TO: Silverwolf Strider- Okay I'll do the best I can to answer all the questions. I hope this helps! And yeah you got the name right; it's Lilan. 1. Her father isn't always in her head; most of the time it's her thinking but she was taught from a young age how to be a soldier practically. You know: stand straight, no eye contatct, say 'yes sir' and ranks whenever needed. 2. Her father was only around when she was a kid. He stole her (if you read the bio, you'll get a little more info). 3. I haven't really thought of a name for him, but he's one of the Foresworn (I think I put that in there... I hope I did... ) Lol he's not Galbatorix 4. She's not an elf but she's tall and thin like one. There's quite a bit of elvish in her history (I'm pretty sure that's in the bio too... ). 5. Yes, she just found the egg that is hopefully going to hatch into Asmis soon. I haven't put that in yet though (not sure when I want her to hatch).
Lol thanks for the tips! That's always wanted! I hope that answers the questions! IC: My eyes filled with gratitude as he stood and helped me up. Well actually, he practically picked me up but let’s not get into the greedy details.
“I’d best be off,” he suddenly said looking around and inhaling the crystal clear air. That threw me for a loop.
“What?” I asked in childish confusion. He’d just got here; why would he leave so soon.
“I said…”
I cut him off then, “I heard you.” He stared at me blankly then and raised a black brow. I looked down at the fire, thinking deep. I wasn’t supposed to like him. We’re supposed to be mortal enemies. I’m not supposed to care… But I did. I do. I do like him. We were mortal enemies when we were growing up. And I do care… “What’s wrong with me?” I grumble, thinking out loud. He looked as confused as I did then, wondering what in the world I was talking about. Wrapping his toned arms around my waist, he lifted me up to his level. I chirped from the sudden loss of balance and nearly knocked him unconscious, chaining my scraggly arms around his neck.
A small chuckle followed that so I glared. After holding me for a few more seconds, we both looked in readiness in the direction of the marching.
“That’s why I have to go,” he said when we turned back to each other, “You’d better start running.” Following his order, I slumped out of his embrace and collected my things.
Using some of my family-given magic, I said, “Brisingr, deyja. Fire, die.” And the fire went out, immediately darkening the entire area around us, leaving only the moon. I shoved the egg into my leather bag, not caring if it squished anything. I had to keep it hidden and safe. Before I took off in the reverse direction of the marching, Murtagh hooked my upper arm and pulled me back close which made me slip.
“You forgot your saying,” he whispered with a grin. I rolled my eyes. I had to get out of here and he stopped me so I would say my catch phrase? Ridiculous.
So I closed my eyes and slightly bowed my head, “Atra ono tauthr du gata ij wyrda tú fricaya (May you follow the path of fate with friends).” And with that he kissed me. Not on the cheek this time, but smack-dab on the mouth. I was surprised at first, as most people are, but then I returned the affection. It was short but it made my heart soar.
Then he said something I recognized in the ancient language, “Flauga (Fly).” And with that, he pushed me away and turned around. I began sprinting, keeping one hand on my bag to keep the egg from falling out. Be careful, I thought as the distance between us quickly grew, Eka elrun ono fricaya (I thank you friend).

Lol, yes, that answered my questions, thanks lul
Oo, I like her character more when you put it like that (badasses are hawt =})
I get it though. Is it meant to be like his orders are traumatizing her?
Lol, what colour is it? Oh, don't worry, I'll stop being lazy and have a look at the bio xD
No worries! Just carry on with the story, cause it's epic n_n

Re: So I Walked
OOC: Okay, You guys are seriously weird But I still like you don’t worry. Lol I really like the ending of this one! IC: I ran until I couldn’t feel my feet and legs, which is fairly far (about six miles) with a death grip held tight around my bag; I didn’t have time to lose the preciousness I’d just found. When I was sure there was no life around for miles, I sat under a large outcropping of rocks to shelter me some from the cold night air. After collecting small necessities for a fire and starting it, I sat cross-legged next to my leather pouch. I sure hope Murtagh is alright, I thought after rubbing and blowing in my hands to warm them quicker.
I couldn’t feel any part of my body accept for the loud thud against my chest as my heart cruelly pounded away inside me, as if trying to escape. I took off my heavy cloak and set it flat next to the fire, which was a bad idea considering my black shirt was sleeveless. A quick shiver tensed my spine before the scar on my back stung and burned ten times the ferocity of the fire I sat in front of. I was used to the pain now so it didn’t really bother me much. I looked to my leather bag and had a conscious argument with myself. I had to decide weather to take out the beautiful stone and set it next to the fire, or leave it. Being the caring and motherly type I am, I delicately removed the egg from the rest of the jumbled things and set it on my lap.
Careful not to push too hard, I slid my hands softly over the vein-looking shell. It was so beautiful, almost like it was made of the fragile snow that I’d originally found it in. There was a hair thin slice of ice still left in a few spots where the warmth of the flam hadn’t quite reached. I took the liberty of melting those areas away with my warm breath. Now it shined like the stars that sat quietly in the dark sky outside. How majestic, I thought.
I started to lean down like I’d down when I’d first found it to listen to the heartbeat just as a tiny break in the outer shell made my heart skip a beat. Slowly setting the egg on the ground, I watched in suspense and astonishment as the crack suddenly broke into a longer slit, creasing the entire upper side of the shell. Here it comes, I thought as another crease broke off from the first one. A crocked ‘T’ shape now sat on the top of the whole shell and a tiny flap was made in the inner corner where the horizontal line of the letter connects to the vertical. My heart jumped again as a tiny bluish-white claw ripped the hole larger. I was near the entrance of the overhang when the egg busted open in a diminutive explosion.
This time, my heart stopped entirely. A dog sized combination of bird and cat flipped and twirled to get off it’s translucent wings. As the creature finally got on all fours and obtained balance, it looked with huge orange eyes at my solid structure in curiosity. It was so adorable, yet so horrifying. I lowered myself down to it’s eye level and vigilantly made my way closer. It snorted and a tiny billow of smoke came from the creature’s nostrils. I stopped then and seriously thought about running.
Okay wait, I told myself, What do you know about dragons? I thought back to when I was living with my father and his dragon. Given he wasn’t the best example, he was sort of the only option I could think of at the moment. They like to eat, I realized, They like to eat a lot. But all my food was in my bag, which is next to the dragon. Beginning to realize that the being was now only a few feet from me, I quickly tried to remember everything else I could. What a minute…, I mentally smacked my forehead, The dragon hatched for me. That means it’s mine so I shouldn’t be afraid of it. I stood up then and jumped when the being leapt back farther into the stone pocket.
A low, childish sounding growl came from low within the dragon’s throat and I quickly sat back down. It’s glittering crimson orange eyes were on me again as we stared deeply at each other through the fire. It staggered toward me once more but this time I stayed put. When it was close enough for me to reach out and touch, it walked around me like an animal circling it’s prey. I just sat quietly and waited for it to get comfortable. Note to self:, I posted on my mental ‘things to keep in mind at all times’ board, No sudden moves around the dragon.
It crept it’s way to my right side and moved close enough to me that I could feel it’s steamy breath on my skin. A shiver made my back go rigid and the dragon backed up again, this time hitting the edge of the stone wall. I held back a grimace before the dragon glared at me again. The pain emitting from my scar was almost too much for me to bare this time. Almost.
I took a few quick, deep breaths and regained my soldier-like posture. The dragon eyed me tensely as another wave of agony enveloped my back and side. It realized I was in pain and watchfully came to my aid. I sat coiled up, leaning over my lap and breathing hard to get enough oxygen for my deadly low heart rate. Twisting it’s long, clear blue neck under my hunched figure, it looked questioningly at my red face. I couldn’t quite tell, but it was almost as if the dragon was hurting with me. Almost as if it were saying I feel your pain.
In an adorable act of comfort, it lightly pressed it’s head against my bare right shoulder. Little did I know that that gesture would cause me to go unconscious. The last thing I felt was a small burning sensation on my arm where it had touched me, then it all went in a flash of white light. Now I didn’t know what was going on in the conscious world, which truthfully scared me. The dragon could be mauling me apart and eating my innards right now and I wouldn’t even know… that would be a scary sight to see… well, the pain from my back was gone though, so that was a plus.

Re: So I Walked
OOC: More, more! Candy galore! Lol family saying. Don't ask.
IC: My eyes blinked open to a large pressure on my stomach. I looked up from the ground; I could at least tell that I was lying down. A large blue object sat like a watchful cat and stared at me with big tropical orange eyes. I still didn’t understand what the creature was, partially because my brain wasn’t functioning. I sat up and rubbed my head where it ached the most and pushed more sleep and confusion out of my eyes. Squinting at the fire, all of the memories finally returned in a flood of images. I mentally gasped when I figured out what the creature on my lower ribs was. After that thought, the dragon jumped off my lap and curled up next to the warm fire. Blinking and flabbergasted, I swore that it’d just heard my gasp.
A slight burnt smell made me look to my right where a circular burn that looked like a dragon head was now branded on my bicep. That was where the dragon had touched me with it’s head, my memory spouted wordlessly through my mouth, before I’d blacked out. Now my brain really hurt. I looked over to the Great Dane-sized dragon that napped silently by the flame. I remember this, I thought when I flipped through the few dragon files I’d created from living in Uru’baen. When the dragons first touch you, they leave a burn on that spot. I looked down at my upper arm and tried to think of anyone I’d ever met with a dragon who had their burn on their arm… No one came to mind.
Both I and the dragon twitched an eye to the opening where distant marching was slowly loudening. I turned back to the dragon and for the first time, I realized that it was almost camouflaged by the fire. As I looked closer, I saw that it was the dragon’s scales that were reflecting the orange and yellow flames. My mind centered on the fire as the marching echoed behind my headache. Three words filled my entire mental sight: Put. It. Out.
I threw my body to the bright flames quickly and repeated the same words I’d whispered when I was with Murtagh. The flame suddenly smothered out and I could fell an emotion of irritation pushing on me from the blue dragon sitting noiselessly on the cold ground.
The marching kept echoing louder as the soldiers came closer. The smoke from the fire was still puffing out of the entrance so I quickly fanned it out of our hiding pocket. I sprinted the three feet back to the still resting dragon and knelt down next to it. “I don’t know if you can understand me,” I breathed, feeling childish, “but we need to hide farther in.”
With that, the dragon stood up and flimsily glided farther into the tiny cave where the cover of darkness was greater. I followed quickly but soon lost sight of it when I was enveloped in total black. I dropped to my knees, again like I was taught in these situations, and began crawling slowly. Floating my hands slowly across the surface of the stone, I found an area that was not made of rock. When I looked up, I could just barely see the orange irises of the dragon’s eyes glinting from the light at the entrance. My heart was racing with anticipation as the marching echoed at its loudest chorus. Just keep breathing, I told myself. And at that exact moment, both the dragon and I took a deep breath.

Re: So I Walked
OOC: Alrighty! I'm sorry it's been so long! I've been really busy... Anyway! Here's more for you Astral!
IC: I looked at the dragon quizzically and it at me. We both jaunted our heads towards the opening again and I laid flat on my stomach. The dragon though, was already camouflaged; just sitting there, like it didn’t even care. It knew that no one could see it.
“Check all of them!” barked a loud, educated voice. It sounded familiar to me, but I didn’t really have the patience, or the time, to look back through my vocal files. I slowed and quieted my breathing, trying as best I could not to move in any way. They’re coming in here, I urged as I felt the being next to me slowly sink down to my level. It’s body was almost longer than mine, not including it’s tail, and it draped it’s wing over me to conceal my dark figure better.
The marching became scattered and unevenly paced. Now small groups scoured the hill side, dispersing to clean out all of the tiny caverns formed by the rock face. A few walked over our tavern and we both tensed, looking horrified at the ceiling. We were almost back to normal when more walked over, and then down next to it, and then into our cave. We were both lying statues on the cold granite floor. The cold was welcoming actually, it helped with the fire in my chest and the lack of oxygen to my face.
I took my time, moving my eyes at the slowest rate possible, to look at who had entered. There were ten legs; only four were wearing the same style of boots (we’ll call them “the boots” just because I like nicknames). That might be a hard one if they’re soldiers, I noted before sluggishly moving my pupils higher. The one closest to us was an inch or so shorter than the boots. That one hadn’t said a word since they’d rudely crashed our little welcoming party. He had on a body-length cloak that billowed softly as he turned and swayed, looking unsatisfied at the walls of the stone cavity (therefore, we shall call him “cloak”… or she. I’m not sure which gender it is yet).
My eyes finally reached to the height where I could see their heads. The boots also had matching helmets that gleamed profoundly in the moon-lit night. Cloak looked down to where my tiny bit of warmth had sat and the snow on the grass had melted from the heat of the fire. I held back a gasp before the dragon next to me forced an angry glare that I had suspected was towards me. Cloak waved the others out, and when they sounded far enough away, he(I’m sure it’s a he now) turned to face farther in the cave. Lifting off his hood, he looked back one more time to the entrance to make sure no one was coming.
“Alright,” he began in a serious whisper, “I know you’re in here.” I was angry for a split second. No one but him could have realized I was there. I waited a few more seconds before emerging until he crossed his arms over his chest. That was the sign that he seriously knew someone was there. He always did that, I thought to myself before Murtagh sighed then too.
I stood up and walked silently out from behind my cozy shield of darkness, cautious not to trip on the uneven floor. The dragon stayed put, still and tense like a cat about to pounce on it’s supper. I didn’t even try to make it move; it was already being stubborn enough. So I simply walked back into the open and stared calmly at Murtagh, waiting for his irritating lecture that I was 100% sure was coming.
He looked off in the darkness behind me, not even needing to lean with his height. He glared down at me and puffed up his chest just a centimeter more, and asked in all seriousness “Who's in there?"
“No one,” I answered solemnly. I was telling the truth. There wasn't ANYONE back there... but there of course was someTHING. I thought to myself, now 99% sure of the lecture.
We had a long, deep, and treacherous stare down for what seemed like hours. Both of us stood there, neither even wanting to breathe. In the end, of course, I won. Well, he probably actually would have won if not for the sudden yell from outside our hiding place.

Re: So I Walked
OOC: Astral, here it is! The one! The only!... the next part of the story hahaha
IC: “The reconnaissance is done, Sir!” the same booming voice from before howled. Murtagh looked to the entrance, then back at me.
I raised my eyebrows sarcastically, “So, they’re giving you pretty names now huh?”
He looked at me with a mixture of apology and concern. “I’m sorry,” was all he whispered before rushing past me, farther into the cave.
I held back a scream of opposition before wrapping my arms around him and tackling him to the hard stone floor. We pushed and shoved each other against the walls and ground in a race to reach the creature first (which Murtagh didn’t know was a dragon). He tried to stand up but I’d grab hold of his wrist and pull him back down; when I tried, he’d pull my ankle out from under me.
When he finally reached behind the cover of rocks, I watched impatiently and horrifically at the sight of his face as he pressed against the warm scales. I tried once more to shove him against one of the boulders, but his open hand quickly caught mine.
As I tried to wriggle my wrist free, I reached with my other hand to his (the one that sat shocked on the dragon’s scales). When I achieved my goal of cutting off his circulation, I tried again to push him away from my newfound gift. But sadly, he tried as well, and was triumphant in pushing me back.
Shoving me against the frozen boulder behind me with both hands, he set his face very close in front of mine. I grimaced slightly at the pressure on my scar and squinted open my eyes. We were both panting a little and he glared at me softly, his dark eyebrows furrowed toward each other. I let out a small squeak of air as the pain grew more profound and noticeable with every rush of cold air into my lungs.
Without a word, he let go of my shoulders but kept his face close. I slumped down comfortably on the cold surface and waited for my breathing to regain it’s normal pace. He watched me intently the entire time, waiting for his breath to return as well.
“He’s going to find out you know,” he whispered, his warm breath reaching my face. There it was; the introduction to the lecture only he would give me.

Re: So I Walked
OOC: Sorry, this one's pretty short but I was kinda in a rush and it was all I could think of ... I'll try harder next time!IC: I glared at him with all the ferocity and evil I could summon, “Do you really think I’m worried about that right now?”
He took in a large breath, obviously about to burst and yell, but let it back out and quietly and patiently began again, “You should be worried. You should be terrified. You know what he’ll try to do when he finds out you have a…” He went silent for a moment and I waited ignorantly for him to say it.
After a few more seconds of silence, I raised my brows, “Dragon? And he’ll only try to take it away if he finds out.”
“Which you know he will,” Murtagh erged.
“Only unless you tell him,” I answered slyly, “Which you won’t.” I gave him a fiendish smile and pushed him away from my dragon. Moving quickly to my left, I sat in front of where the dragon had been hiding, camouflaged in black. He could see my crystal blue eyes though. A blind person could, even if it was dark, and my bright red hair didn’t help either.
He one large step and pushed me down, my back screaming louder than my head. Molecular-sized tears creased the outline of my eyes and the pain made my entire body go rigid. The scar was giving me frostbite and burning me, making me sway between conscious and unconsciousness and keeping me alive, everything, all at once.

Who cares if it's short? And if you need more time to come up with something, I can wait so you're not rusehd. It's still good though.

Re: So I Walked
OOC: I just noticed that the first sentence of the last paragraph in my last reply is missing a word It’s supposed to say “He took one large step” Sorry about that … And thanks Astral IC: The pain ran through the entire extent of my physical body; there was no telling what it was doing to my brain. The tiny tears were now slowly gushing as I still tried to refrain from screaming (I could tell they were gushing because I felt water drip into my ears). I felt something reach into my brain, my conscience. It wasn’t yet in words, but there was a feeling of security, relief. Murtagh was still pinning me to the floor, but I felt him ease up just enough to let larger amounts of oxygen into my lungs. The feeling slipped in again, this time more fluently and accurate, but still not into a language. One last time, it tried to become vocal, as I wriggled against Murtagh’s steel grip. And this time, it was successful. I’m here, it said quietly.Who, may I ask, is here? my stupidity chimed in. I looked over to the dragon that was sitting silent in the black. Me,it answered with a childish chuckle. I could barely see it’s orange eyes in the dark, but they still looked so warm and beautiful. Would you care for some assistance? I looked at it bemused, From you?.....Ummm….No thank you….?Are you certain?Y-yes but thank you for offering…I am at your service.I looked once back to Murtagh and then back to the dragon, …Ok.
Murtagh did the same, once to the dragon then back at me. He almost looked disgusted but mostly confused. I actually almost laughed at how stupid his face looked…. That wasn’t very kind of me…. Anyway, he stood up and straightened out his shirt. Taking a large breathe, he calmed himself to a low enough level where he wouldn’t yell. “Don’t die while I’m gone,” was all he had to say.
I scrambled up behind him, my breaths coming in whooshes, and plowed into his back. Not enough to make him fall, but his balance was uneven for a split second. My hands wrapped around his waist as I tried to keep my own balance. He stopped walking and I let go, my face flushing red (he hates it when I slip… but seriously, it’s usually not my fault…. Oh well). He turned around with a furious scowl on his absently smooth face. I backed up cautiously, ready for a turn-and-run at any given moment.
But of course, being as uncoordinated as I am around him, I didn’t step high enough to miss the small upward crease etched into the floor surface. I started to fall, but caught my footing better before any damage was done (not that there would be any). He lurched forward at the same time and hooked me around my waist with his left arm and picked me up (as you can see this happens a lot).

Re: So I Walked
Oh, that's so cute! Heehee, I love how you described the dragon's mind merging with the character.

Re: So I Walked
OOC: Sorry it’s been so long but here’s more IC: My back screamed louder but I hushed it back as his arm slid gruffly over my shirt, making the leather cloth rub gruesomely against my scar (which I was sure was now bleeding). I held back another scream and made my face as dead as a corpse.
He set me down carefully, the same scowl on his face. “Would you be a little more careful?!” he warned in a low, hushed tone.
“Sir?!” the loud voice yelled. We both jumped at the echoing boom.
Silence.
Murtagh walked a little farther towards the entrance, the snow gracing on the top of his head and shoulders as it fell silently outside, “Yes, keep moving! I’ll take up the rear!”
“Sir! Yes sir!” And with that and another deafening order howled, the army began to march.
“No, I can't,” I answered half hushed, backing up while his back was still turned. He spun around quick and I dodged his piercing black eyes by simply falling flat onto the floor on my back. I do have to admit that it made the pain much more unbearable. I winced as the pain somehow grew ever more …well… painful. I let in tiny, quick breaths as to not hurt my lungs any more than I could handle. Murtagh started with a heavy walk back towards me and I tried to scramble my way behind the rocks that concealed my dragon. Would you like some help now? it asked in all innocence. No, I almost said aloud. The feeling of it being in my head was still uneasy and very nerve racking. He seems very controlling, it thought quietly. You have no idea, I answered, remembering all the times when we fought when we were both living in Uru’baen. Murtagh was lifting me up once more off the cold stone by my upper arm, “You’re so clumsy.” “Only around you,” I snapped back, realizing that that specific comeback wasn’t one of my best. I covered my face with my crimson-fire colored hair that was now drowned into a deep rose color with the night at it’s peek of dark. He pulled me closer, close enough that I could feel the warmth from his body against my own, and loosened his restrained grip on my arm. Clearing away the strands of red with his fingertips, he tilted his head down first to get my attention, then lifted my face up so we would both be comfortable. We had another silent moment (we’ve had a lot of these, even when we were kids) as we stared into each others’ eyes. I’ve never been able to figure this one out, but whenever I stare into his eyes for more than five heartbeats, I can’t help but cry. Of course, being male, he laughed at me. I heard a deep growl that I’m sure was only meant for my ears and lifted the edges of my mouth to the tiniest extent. And at that point, I realized that the two of us, the dragon and me (who I should really name soon), were going to get along just fine.

Re: So I Walked
OOC: Thanks Red! Haha it's always good to hear someone likes it! And Astral, you have every right to talk girlish about this. IC:The tears piled up quietly and I forced them back with a laugh at my dragon. Murtagh glared at me in confusion which only made me laugh more.
He rolled his eyes and started walking out of the cave. "Stay out of sight," he said, trying to sound forceful. I clicked the heels of my boots together and straightened my posture to it's limit.
"Yes, Sir," I saluted as a chuckle wrinkled my face from ear to ear. Stay out of sight, my dragon whispered in a mocking voice.
My face broke into laughter again as I crumpled down and squeezed my stomach to stop the aching. When the hard breathing finally seized, I looked up with bright eyes at the tall figure standing over me. I stood up and tried as hard as I could to flatten my face to a more serious posture.
Taking one more large breath, I slowly opened my eyes and kept my face serene, "I understand."
His dark eyes squinted and his silhouette turned back around, outlined with a single white line from the moonlight outside.
I followed him childishly to the opening of the hollow and watched him trek a few steps into the ankle-deep snow.
"Hey," I whispered, watching my steamed breath float away into the darkness.
Murtagh turned around three-fourths of the way and watched me from the corner of his eyes. "Stay alive," I smiled triumphantly as I crossed my arms and let another small billow of warm air out of my frozen mouth.
"Heh. I will," he answered with a tiny smirk and started to turn back around.
"Promise?" I asked seriously, unconsciously walking toward him. I stopped when he stopped.
He froze mid-step and set his boot back down, not facing me. Turning all the way around this time, he looked caringly and intently into my shiny blue eyes. He walked back over to me, his breath outlasting mine. He stood in front of me with little distance between us, "Promise." Steam floated across my forehead.
He lifted his cloth-covered pinky and let another small grin slide onto his face. I laughed a little and hooked it in mine.

Re: So I Walked
OOC: Thanks guys! And I will I promise I’m actually kinda stuck now so if you have any suggestions, I’d be much obliged.IC: My cheeks were warm against the cold air as they faded red from blushing and I turned around to rejoin my dragon in the indent of granite. But as I did, my eyes went wide with worry and uncertainty when my pupils dilated on the faun-sized being wobbling off down the snow-consumed rock face. I ran down to catch it before it fell into the thick drift of snow that waited like a huge white ocean at the bottom of the hill. I pounced on it but it looked back quickly and ran a little faster to escape from my steel grasp. My face hit hard onto the iced snow, then came the rest of my body. I coughed a little as my lungs hit hardest. I looked up furiously and impatiently at the near invisible creature through dark brows and hefted myself back vertically. After brushing off what little snow had stuck to my leather, I tried again to capture the flying beast more cautiously.
I crept down slowly, my knees bent and arms ready to clamp together. It was still trying to learn a little balance and when I was sure it wasn’t paying close enough attention, I jumped once more. This time, I was triumphant for a moment. My arms caught around it’s neck and I tried as best I could to wrangle down it’s large, clear wings. It twisted it’s body over as if to whip my arm off but I held tight. A little too tight.
I realized, to my dismay, that the spinal blades on it’s back were sharp. I hadn’t noticed when I’d first grabbed the now flailing dragon that they had already penetrated through my skin, but now they felt as if they were almost all the way through. I winced once and the dragon immediately stood and backed away slightly, staring in awe at the bleeding mess of red and white that now accumulated under my arm. I sat up a little more, diagnosing my upper arm in a motherly fashion and saw the burn where the dragon and I had first made physical contact.
I glanced up to it with a bit of sincerity, then held the puncture tightly and whispered a healing spell in the ancient language. The wound heeled quicker than I could blink and I stared in disbelief at the speed; I’d never been able to do any spell that fast, ever. I took one more look at the dragon precariously and a tiny little smile creased my lips.

Re: So I Walked
I let the quarrel slide since I was sure, if I had just been born, I would want to see the world too. Rubbing off some of the excess blood, I sat very still and tall, acting as a bridge troll and making it very clear that it would not pass me.
It stared for a while, then gave up and fluttered back to the cave. I stood up and wiped away a majority of the snow and followed silently. Once inside, I sat down once more and found some of the already burnt twigs to start another fire. Murtagh’s last words echoed in my head and I thought twice about lighting a beacon for others to see.
I threw the twigs back where I’d collected them and rested my chin on my fist. The dragon was lying in front of me, farther in the cave, and almost seemed to mimic me; it rested it’s scaly jaw bone onto the top of it’s front foot.
Thinking for a long while on what to say, I thought it odd that I wanted to talk to a dragon…a dragon without a name… ‘There’s an idea,’ I thought as the dragon eyed me childishly, ‘We should think of a name for you.’
Something pretty, it thought, poking up it’s head in excitement.
‘Alright,’ I began as I went to work on thinking of different names. ‘You’re female so we don’t want to give a boy’s name now would we,’ I added with a giggle.
Nothing too feminine, it stated with a snobby looking expression.
‘As you wish Miss. Perfection,’ I said plainly.
That could work.
‘What could? Miss. Perection? I’m sorry but you’re not that perfect. Not to be rude or anything.’
No, she said flatly, Asmis.
I thought about it for a moment, saying it a few times at different lengths and pitches. ‘That’s perfect,’ I concluded with a big grin.

Re: So I Walked
OOC: HAHAHAHHAHA! You’re so weird Astral but cool so it’s ok. Sorry, this one's short. IC: We sat there in the dark for what seemed like hours, each of us listening to each other breathe. It was still a negative degree outside, but I didn’t pay close enough attention to let it bother me.
‘So,’ I began trying to start a conversation. So, it said softly, Who was that man you were conversing with.It didn’t really sound like a question. I closed my eyes remembering all the times we’d shared wreaking havoc in the castle. ‘Do you want the whole story?’ Well…most of it.‘Okay,’ I started once more, ‘Well, first off, his name is Murtagh. He’s the son of the first member of the Forsworn, Morzan.’ I paused a moment for the thought to register. Go on.‘We grew up together in Uru’baen. I cleaned and he was a student of Galbatorix’s.’ Another pause.Galbatorix, the evil king who rules the Empire. Yes I know all of this. Please continue. ‘Don’t get moody with me,’ I stated in a stern, motherly tone. Please continue, she said more softly.‘What else do you want to know? That’s about it.’I am most positive that any human could see there is more to the two of you than that.I rolled my eyes; this was going to take a while.

Re: So I Walked
After my entire life story was finished, I finally took a breath; I tend to talk fast when explaining things. By the time I’d finished, the sun was already sitting above the distant horizon and I stared thoughtfully out to the faded blues and whites that meshed together in the morning sky.
Asmis seemed to follow entirely despite my speed and nodded and questioned a few times about different subjects. When I finally finished, she smiled in gratitude and walked out into the bright sparkles that shown on her scales like a million diamonds, making her seem as though she were the most beautiful and detailed snow man (or in this case, snow dragon) ever to be constructed. I stood up with a mixture of a loud sigh and cracking bones and sore muscles and went to stand by her side.
I stretched my arms vertically over my head, all twenty four of my vertebrae popping and snapping into a more comfortable space. Letting my arms drop back down to my sides, I slumped my head back and rolled it around my shoulders and all of my cervical vertebrae cracked in painful comfort.
I knelt down next to Asmis, making her head higher than mine (not that I minded I just wanted to let you know she was taller when I crouched next to her) and slowly followed the mountainous horizon line to her beady orange eyes. I almost jumped when I realized she was staring at me in confusion and disgust.
“What?” I said aloud innocently.
Nothing, she answered as her large eyes rolled.
“I’m sorry, ok? I like to reset my bones. I’m getting old.”
We both looked at each other and I raised my eyebrows to say ‘yeah what’s your retort to that?’ She answered wisely, as all dragons do, In a dragon’s life span, you’re not even one year old.
“Either are you,” I added with a ‘duh’ expression.
This is true.
I shook my head with a grin, “We’re off then?”
She sized me up and looked at the sky then back at me, I’m not big enough to carry you.
Glaring at her, I too rolled my eyes, “I know that. We’ll walk.”
Through the snow?! she questioned in a grotesque fashion, The wretched white prison from whence I was forced to live in?! NO! I WILL NOT!
“Better learn how to fly then,” I said plainly, shrugging my shoulders and chuckling to myself.
I heard that, she spat bitterly as I collected my belongings. I walked back to her side and took a lung full of the crisp, cold air. It was unimaginably ethereal for my scar. The cold was like a large block of ice that was light on my back and I thanked the mother of winter for that. I watched my breath float away into the clear sky and smiled at the warmth of the cold.
After one step the dragon was already moaning in protest. She was like a child who’d been walking for a long distance when in reality had only walked a few feet.
“Oh grow up,” I turned around and glared at her.
She glowered back in the same way a child would cross their arms and frown.
“Come on,” I said with a false bright smile as I patted my hands on my thighs, “come on!”
I’m not a dog you know, she snapped fiendishly.
“I know. You’re a child.”
And within seconds of that remark, I was running and laughing.

Re: So I Walked
I continued to run and laugh until we were miles away from Feinster. I’d run north northeast near my home town, Melian. It was an old place and I didn’t much care for it. My childhood memories are still quite clear but I’ve taught myself to shut them out.
When we were only a mile from the town, I stopped and explained to Asmis where we were. She was still furious with me but I told her to put that aside for now; this was no time to be snooty. I told her that she would have to stay here until I returned with some supplies that were necessary for our life’s adventure. She simply snorted a puff of steamy air from her nostrils and when to hide in a thick group of trees.
“Be careful please?” I instructed sincerely. She glared at me from a high branch and climbed higher and higher until she was safely concealed at the top of the evergreen, entirely invisible unless you knew she was there. ‘No one will look up that high anyway,’ I assured myself.
I walked quietly into the snow enveloped town and began my tiresome journey through out it to find my provisions. I kept a mental check-off list at hand and walked most of the day to each story. I greeted old friends who I hadn’t seen in what felt like a life time, smiled at all the playful children who followed me along the streets and danced around my feet, and listened to stories from shop owners and verbal quarrels they had with their wives as to how the story went. In entirety, it was a pleasant day, everything was in stock and nothing seemed out of the ordinary. I basked in the simplicity of the air, all the things I remembered still here, all the people I loved to talk to were still around, and the buildings were all standing tall and proud, just like I remembered.
When I reminisced about my childhood in a shop near the edge of town, I realized that the only bad memories I had, the only hardships in my files, were at my home a few miles from the city walls. Bearing that thought in mind, I decided to go on a quick, off-road search to see if the old place was still standing. If it were, I decided, I would burn it down. ‘That would also give the town people some gossip to spread and give Asmis and me a chance to escape more swiftly.
To my dismay, the old shack had fallen, all the straw and wood crumbled and layered as if someone had already come and demolished it. ‘Probably him,’ I thought as a dark image showed itself in my mind. I remembered that my time limit was diminishing with every wasted second I spent here so I hefted my new belongings and cut straight south to where I set As.
A scream rang out in the distance near where I’d left my new little sister and I automatically started to sprint, my hand on the handle of my sword. My uncanny speed assisted very well and I arrived at the scene just in time to watch my camouflaged dragon safely fly away from a group of travelers who were obviously spooked. I snickered to myself from behind a deep collection of evergreens on the opposite of where Asmis had been guarding.
I waited until the group was far enough away then sprinted across the bare white road and followed behind Asmis. She seemed to fly for quite a will, the sun already setting on the other side of the world behind distant mountains.

Re: So I Walked
OOC: Sorry for the wait everybody I've been really busyIC:Finally, after the sky was only a soft blue that faded to black in my line of vision, Asmis landed and I jogged into the clearing. My breathing, thankfully, was only a silent pant.
When I looked at Asmis’ long face, I noticed a note of panic and terror hidden deep within the galaxy of her pupils. I trudged over to her, sitting in the snow, and let her rest on my lap. The snow was cold and made the air crisp and clean, which was very welcoming from the sent I had grown accustomed to in Uru’baen.
Night set in and I waited for Asmis to fall asleep. It was only when I realized her large rib cage moving in and out with some force that she was. I smiled to down to her, thinking of how much she appeared as a child, but had the brain capacity of a full grown witch.
As my imagination spread to my vision, images of silhouetted pine trees etched themselves into my mind. ‘They’re like tall white soldiers,’ I noted as my eyes played with the dark images around me.

Re: So I Walked
OOC: I am soooo sorry everyone! I didn't get on at all this summer!
IC:I didn’t sleep at all that night, afraid of an unwelcome run-in with...well…anyone. My legs went numb quickly but As’s neck kept them warm enough through the night. The next morning, as we’d tried to do the previous, we set out on our adventure. The weeks went on and the days grew longer and warmer with every day we headed farther north. Truthfully, I was already exhausted after two or so weeks, but I kept my thoughts to myself. And with every day, Asmis grew larger and larger as did her appetite.
Finally, after three weeks or so, I found a river. A stream actually, but I like to think it was bigger. Without a thought we both jumped in let out loud sighs of thankfulness and bliss. The frozen water was indescribable on my tired body.
I knelt down so that I was sitting as much as I could in the water. I laid down but even then the water didn’t rush over my head. We spent the rest of our day and evening simply lieing there in the cold, comfortable stream.

Re: So I Walked
OOC: Haha thanks Astral IC:It wasn’t until I was shaken awake that I realized I’d been sleeping. When my thoughts finally caught up with my somehow moving body, I began to shiver but still was quite unsure of where I was or where I’d been.
Wind howled in my ears, threatening to deafen me. A rhythmic beat seemed to coincide with my body being forced upward with so much energy and power that I was almost frightened of falling from my invisible harness. My bright red hair lashed at my face, feeling as sharp, thin blades cutting my skin. When pain finally registered, my legs were on fire. A surge of pain with every down beat pumped itself through my entire body. I realized quickly that the object my legs were holding tight to was the only that kept me from falling, so I held tighter. When I tried to reach for my face, I realized it was wet. I tried to regain my line of vision, but my hair was being too much like it’s description and tossed everywhere as the wind continued like a cacophony to the beat.
I tried to focus on a single object, preferably one that wasn’t moving. I turned my head at all angles and found nothing to would register properly and clearly. I lifted my hands once more to my face and decided on a different approach. When my hands covered my eyes, I tried again to understand why I was wet. My most recent thoughts included traveling along barren land and of a stream.
‘A stream,’ my mind recorded.
My hair continued to strike at my face, now cutting at my hands. I didn’t care to look, but I was sure I remembered my hair being dry though; with all this wind, that was quite undoubtedly true. My hands felt dry, as did my legs, but again my mind assumed the wind theory.
A tiny voice slowly grew louder and more audible in my head, though the tone was not my own. It began to scream my name until finally, with a deep accent of misunderstanding, I answered.
“What,” I said plainly. Again it yelled my name.
“What.” I thought more loudly and this time, an expression of irritation showed on my face.
“Lilan!” It cried once more, “Lilan! Wake up! We’re in trouble!”
‘Asmis,’ my mind almost said questioningly. Then the name showed on an image in my brain in big, bold, red letters. I wanted to smack my forehead.
“What’s happening,” I kept my voice calm. They found us! she shouted. “Who found us, As? Where are we?” Another thought registered: Asmis, dragon, wings, flying. I reached with my arms to hold tighter. Them! she screamed, making me turn my head with a small amount of control to where the spiraling ground blurred beneath us. Everything was tiny, ant sized in my fuzzy vision.
“I can’t see straight,” I said quietly to her, “Who is it?”The one you kissed! Her voice was shaky as she flew higher.
My face suddenly felt cold and empty, and not because of the atmosphere around me (which was also becoming very cold). My fear reached Asmis and I could sense that she was even more scared than me. I didn’t blame her either. This was a race she was unfamiliar with. She wasn’t even that familiar with her own race, although that was partly my fault, and Galbatorix’s.
Asmis hooked a sharp, sudden left and I felt as though a stone wall was forcing me down and beating at my bloody legs. Soon, my frigid body couldn’t handle the insanely painful pressure and I lost my grip. And now, I was falling.
Looking at my life in retrospect while gaining kinetic energy and feeling as though my head was literally about to explode, I tend to fall much too much. Although, one positive was that this was the first experience I had of feeling like an arrow released at a target. But I must admit, the ground was not my first choice.
My ears continued to scream, though I noticed I was not. I smirked to myself and applauded myself in my head as to what a fantastic job I’d done to keep myself from expressing fear. I also must admit that I wasn’t all that scared, which is odd from most people who are put into that situation.
