do you watch the movie just for the sake of not being bothered to read the book?
i've done it a few times weired thing is i don't like i usally just watch it and run a commentry of complaints about it.

I like the film

I hate the film. Whenever I watch I start to make a list of all the things that are wrong in my head and get frustrated because if they had produced the film according to the book and not butchered it, it could have been amazing.

I hate the film!! What they did should be a crime!!!

Well obviously it your view depends on your opinion otherwise it wouldn't be your view it would be someone else's view.

Anyway why do you think that the movie is good what can you credit it with?

Whats wrong with it?

Ok I put this up sometime ago in another topic. But I will put it up here again just for you.

1. In the movie if a rider dies his/her dragon dies in the books this is not the case. (Brisingr pg 636-637)
2. the love interest with Arya is completely different from the one in the book where Eragon is spurned by Arya.
3. Urgals are part of the empires military forces in the film not controlled by Durzza as in the book
4. Hrothgar the dwarf king dosen't exist neither does Orik
5. Eragon is much stronger than Arya in the film where in the book he is clearly outmatched by her.
6. There don't seem to be any dwarves in the film as all of the people in farthen dur are of the same height.
7. The Twins don't exist
8. Farthen dur is easily accessible to dragons as saphira flies out of the crater in the film where as in the book the hole in the mountainn is too high for even dragons to reach.
9. Sloan seems to like eragon in the film he knows the egg is the king's propetry and tells him to hide it.
10. Sloan is tortured and killed in the movie
11. The Ra'zac die
12. Katrina dosen't exist
13. Brom believes he is responsible for there being only one dragon in Alagaesia
14. The foresworn don't exist
15. The geography is wrong in the film daret is near foothills of the Beor mountains instead of being in the northen reaches of the empire .
16. Surda dosen't seem to exist.
17. Saphira has to obey eragon in the film where as in the book she dosen't and stays by him because of their bond. (eragon pg 157)
18. Saphira has a different personality
19. No evidence of elves existing
20. Jeod dosen't exist
21. Horst role is cut to the mention of his name only once in the film.
22. No werecat or werecat prophecy and angela is met in daret which isn't on a plain as in the book but in a marsh.
23. No star rose
24. We don't know where Roran has gone so it is likely that if there is a second film roran's plot will be dropped and he will just show up at the varden.
25. In the film the varden are not aware of Brom or that he never played an important part in their councils.
26. Arya refers to Eragon as the leader of the resistance in the film where as in the book he swears fealty to the Vardens new leader Nasuada.
27. In the film it seems that there are only two dragons left saphira and shruikan no other eggs so no thorn.
28. Magic seems completely different from the book
29. In the film it says dragons are the source of magic in the books oromis says that magic exists in nature without riders or dragons.
30. In the film galbatorix wants to kill eragon where as in the books he wants to capture saphira.
31.Eragon already knows the Arya is a princess (very minor)
32. Film misses training of Eragon by Brom to be a rider could have been done in a two or three minute scene.
33. In film brom is killed by durzza not the Ra'zac
34. Murtagh dosen't shoot the shade or save eragon from the Ra'zac
35. In the film saphira instantly grows where in the book she gradually grows.
36. Saphira can't breath fire until after she breaks the star rose in the book but in the films she can breath fire from the beginning.
37. Eragon's power when he first uses magic is vastly incrased from when he used magic in the books.
38. Arya has the wrong hair color and isn't an elf (as these don't seem to exist also she dosen't have pointy ears.
39. Eragon dosen't injure his legs or rely of Saphira for warmth after their first flight.
40. Hadarac desert isn't mentioned and probably dosen't exist in the film world because of the other geographical mishaps.
41. Eragon isn't going to Ellesmera at the end of the film with Arya so will he get any additional training and, do Oromis and Glaedr even exist it? For Eragon dosen't speak to them at the end of the film.
42. Elva dosen't exist.
43. Doesn't seem that Arya can use magic.

Angela does exist they just change where they meet her from Terim to Daret and instead of Daret being on a plain it is in a marsh... I hate my memory I am really good at remembering things I hate and not so good at remembering things that I enjoy maybe that's why I am so pessimistic...

I watched the movie because it was a great story.

I've read already the story of it so I watched it if the story and events

on the book is same as the movie.

so far they are almost the same.

the location, name of character, are almost the same.

No offense Constantinne, but you must have seen a different movie than I did. They mangled the movie practically within the first ten minutes. I admit it was cool, but the gedwey ignasia was supposd to be a diffused oval, not an 'e'. As ac said, Saphira was supposed to grow slowly (like any other living thing), not instantaneously. Honestly, if I wrote down everything I thought was wrong with the movie, I'd probably be here all night.

But, if the movie hadn't been based off the book or I had never read the book, it would have been pretty good. Seeing as it was based off the book.... Enough said.

There are just way too many things wrong with the movie to even put into words. Just say the number one problem: It exists. They could have done such a good job with it, but they chose to mangle it beyond recognition.

And number 2, its flop likely killed the series' foray into film. who really wants a sequel to the universe this movie created anyway?

For them reasons stated above this Movie and anymore they decide to make will be a epic fail.


Its alright for people who have not read the book and have no intrest in it. I have been told its a decent story. But for true fans like us who have read the book, the movie was a disgrace and i wouldnt own it even if it was giving to me (Again)...Threw the last copy away.


Besides Eragon stays behind to lead the Varden...WTF....they will have to completely remodel the rest of the films into thier own creation because there is no way to fix it to where it will follow the books agian unless someone remakes the first.

Thats what they need to do..They need to just start over and DO IT RIGHT.

Yeah, remake! And get the ears, hair, eyes, outfits, cities, dragon, meetings, plot, and basically everything else right this time!

I watched the movie before reading the books and i enjoyed it... But when i red the books i was dissapointed on how many facts in the book were changed in the movie. If you haven't red the book, the film seems good. There were some good ideas, but the many mistakes are annoying.

And to fill @aluminiumclock's list, ill say this:
In the movie Eragon and Saphira kill Durza in air battle. Arya doesn't take any part in this battle. Anyway, the battle was good, i enjoyed the shadow dragon a lot :}

Oh, the mistakes aren't annoying, they're infuriating. They didn't even make an effort...

I read the books first then the movie and now i regret it sooooooo much. Its like they didnt even try to make it like the books.
But i actually want them to make another mvie just to see the difference in it from the first one

Yeah, I only watched it once back in '06 when it came out, but then I read the book 2 years later. And then watched the movie back in autumn of '09 andrealized how badly made it was.

I actually saw the movie before I read the book. While I agree that the movie blows compared to the book, I still kinda like it for some reason. I guess I consider it a guilty pleasure. I mean, I know it is bad but I still like it mostly because of Jeremy Irons as Brom. Him and the guy who played Murtagh were the only people who could act in that movie.

True - Jeremy Irons = epic. Eragon movie compared to Eragon book was like Legend of the Seeker compared to Sword of Truth. Good plots, but aligned terribly with the books.

I liked the movie and I can not whate for the new book I hope they make more movies.

I liked the movie itself. i mean, it's a great *movie* but, as a book? it sucked. I loved the book way more! the series is unique and perfect. they screwed it up with the movie. as stated waaaay above, there are alot of ways that the book and movie are different. It kind of ruined the whole purpose of the book. the story was changed way too much. not only that, and i hate to break it to you, it makes it impossible for there to be a sequel. most of Eldest and Brisingr involve Roran and the Ra'zac. but, by killing off the Ra'zac in the first movie, it erases the majority of the plot. and by erasing the plot, half the occurances of the book cant happen without making the movie completely (in every way) different from the book. therefore, erasing the purpose of the movie.
