Character Personality: Asmana is often sadistic and cruel. She is cunning and sharp, which can make her incredibly dangerous. The mortal life means northing to her. She hates herself, for being what she is, and this causes her to fight against her own will and instinct. She is often indecisive, vindictive, and raves to the point of madness. She has a habit of speaking in rambling gusts. She has compassion for animals and those she respects. She is often seen as an evil being, however she is truly indifferent.
Character History: As a young girl of 13, Asmaani the villager began to study magic. She learned with her master in the day, and helped her poor family at night. And then, the dreams started. Terrible voices, never more than two, interrupted her consciousness and sub-consciousness, telling her truths of the past, and the fate of the future. She tried to ignore it, but Anki and Shin had interrupted her being. In an attempt to rid herself of the disturbing dreams, Asmaani performed a powerful spell, calling on a rift in the Spirit World. That was all Anki and Shin needed to complete their possession of her. She was now Asmana, Shade, Messenger, and Slave to the Spirits. Her hair and eyes changed color, her skin grew pale. Her family noticed this change and tried to help her, but what could they do? One day, two years later, Asmaani, now Asmana, had completely forgotten who she was. She told her family she was leaving. Her father was outraged, and in a struggle between them, he was killed.
For the Next year, Asmana would wonder Alagaesia, falling deeper and deeper into her path of lost voices and lost souls. She forgot who she was. Shin and Anki were not truly evil. They, too, had a hard path, as messengers from the spirits to the living. They needed a vessel. So, Asmana became a messenger. She would seek people out, tell them their fates and pasts. She was always honest. She had no choice. She also became a Messenger of the Mortals, carrying letters and messages between people. Often, she was attacked because of her Race and the frightening nature of her messages, such as the one she delivered often, “You Will Die Soon.” So, she took up her Claymore Sword and Poison-daggers. It was necessary.
Asmana could not see into the future. She merely did what the spirits controlling her told her to. The spirits themselves got the messages from a higher power, but it would be impossible to say what that power was. Eventually, Asmana set up a home made of stone in the Hadarac Desert. She liked it there, and, every so often, she’d get up and leave, on another mission. This was the way she became a messenger for the Varden as well as Galbatorix. She always spoke the truth, but never took sides. She lacked the ability. She was indifferent to life.
Shin and Anki did not always get along with each other or the weak shadow of Asmaani’s mind lurking within Asmana. The three bickered and struggled for power within Asmana, threatening to tear her apart. Eventually, she set off on a quest to find her lost identity, even though she was not fully aware she had one. During her quest, she was still the Bearer of Messages, the Shade of Indifference.
