Susan Cooper, The Dark Is Rising series
anyone read these? they're very good... i've read the first two so far... very nice reading... this is really good fantasy for all those fantasylovers out there[/i]

basically traditional fantasy I guess... the protagonists are children aged between 9-12 or so, who suddenly become involved in an epic battle between the forces of light and dark one summer holidays in the english countryside. Helping them is their great-uncle who is actually a powerful man who will aid the children and protect them from the dangerous forces of evil. There are five books in the series - and each one follows the children's journey to help discover the signs of light which will forever destroy the dark, which is rising. that is basically a summary of the series as much as I know it

hm, just finished it. I found them quite good, probably due to the fact that they were less 'modern' in the sense with a lot of powerful emotions and atmosphere
