Foreshame. No one at my school talked about this but i think its important. As you know about 60 years ago from today was the siege at Normandy or in simplafied terms D-day. As said before you may not think that its important but i do. I put this here to remember them. And i God Damn hope that you dont forget them.

Yep...........Oh and just to add something funny to this topic my thought was that if the germans spent less time hiding in two bedroom appartments and more time fighting this world mayve been a whole different place.

I think it's horrific what happened in WW2, and I am not being disrespectful at all, but I think when everyone talks about the war, we forget about the millions of women and children killed as well as soldiers. Also the millions of Jews in the awful conditions at the death camps or just shot for no reason. We also forget that millions more people are still dying of starvation or crimes against humanity in Africa and such places today. When we think about the wars, we forget that people are still suffering constantly today, and that the people who fought were also attempting to murder others. These wars have also developed a pointless hatred between nations, which is definitely not helping in the world we live in. I still respect and remember those who gave their lives for their countries though.

Como say wah??? My grandpa was in WW2, I don't Celebrate War like Firetounge said....I don't think any soldier will either. Mazybe just maybe thats why no one at your school mentioned it. it was stupid and pointless for hitler to go and kill everyone that oposess him or is a jew. They didn't metnion it becuase maybe one of thier grandfathers or grandmothers died in that war. i'm not saying it was wrong for people to rise up and attack. but don't you think we could of avoided all of the killing and bloodshed. i'm not saying i hate my grandfather becuase he fought to make things better. I hate the sitiuation as a whole. Jews dieing in death camps, Nazis invading Africa. Like firetounge said. thier still trying to rebuild for all that has happened there. There is this pointless hatred for no godforsaken reason. I honor my grandfather for doing what was right. but i don't honor the fact that we had to waste lives just to achieve peace.

people think war can always be avoided. this isn't true. thus it is sad and to be remembered. not all wars are fought by choice.

Not paid attention to it? NOT PAID ATTENTION TO IT??!! Do you see my picture? lol I practicaly woship the vets. on D-day. I play that day almost everyday... my brother almost went to iraq. my grandpa fought on D-day in normandy and is one of the few remaning alive. Many people do not think much of it yes I agree mabye if they had a chance to see what it would be like if we had not won the war or simply live when it happend they would not take it for grantide. Also for people who like Einstien know that he was a jew his quote for war was this:As long as there is government and power, war is inevitable.

Like I said, I won't know. I just don't want to bring back bad memories for him. All I can remember is that my dad said his plane was shot down once and something about some people and their knives.

It makes me angry when people say how they remember and respect soldiers from the wars, and yet enjoy all these shooting games or films which put across the message that it is alright to kill people if they are an enemy. Of course sometimes war can't be avoided, but it doesn't need to be glorified. Its like some war films, pearl harbour and things- they're all just bang bang they're dead- he's only a Nazi, who cares? There are great films such as Schindler's list which shows people what it was really like. Not heroic, or full of glory and being patriotic- it was horrific! Also the holocaust- we see figures and statistics all the time- "millions of Jews were killed" doesn't really get across the message. Tiny children shot in the head, parents killed in front of their children! So another one is dead- you can't just add them to the statistics! You have to think that each of those millions of people had a life, a family, friends, feelings! There's a famous quote:

Quote:
That which has happened is a warning. To forget it is guilt. It must be continually remembered. It was possible for this to happen, and it remains possible for it to happen again at any minute. Only in knowledge can it be prevented.

true- but it doesn't put across a good message. I'm all for shooting games- they're fun, but as long as people obviously understand that it's not like that at all in real life, real people died. Also, some films are so historically innaccurate. Pearl harbour for instance is absaloute crap, nothing like what really happened.

I don't think war can be avoided. I know what you mean by saying that. i'm just pointing out that we probably could have stopped the killing alot sooner then it did. think about it, soildiers wont want to rejoice about thier memories. they probably want to forget them, they could have lost good friends in that war. think for one minute, how would you feel in that war, how would you feel in any war?

Steven Spielberg is the best director for war films- he really researches it. His films are the closest thing to ever get to the truth. He did Schindler's List and Saving private Ryan I think- those are really truthful films! Has anyone seen Sophie's choice? It's seriously heartbreaking...

There is some of those boys that are stilll alive. One of them is Sam Rivers. You know how back then there was prejiduce against blacks and all that? Hes black and he was in the 76th tank division which was made almost completely of black folks. Except for the officers of course. But i dont think i had any realitives in WW2. I think WW1 but not 2.
