Post The Shadow Behind the Light
OOC: Hello, fellow rp people! :D Whoever has read about Elcyon will probably wonder how this all really began. Maybe. I don't know what people arethinking, but I know I would be if I was reading. Anyway, I'm doing like I did for Hobsyllwin (Syllwin) and post her beginning. Hope you enjoy! :)

IC:

I - Naming

There was only darkness. It was…comforting, though intimidating nonetheless. The young dragon curled within the comfort of her own shell laid in dormant shadows, feeling warm and content in her little space. She could feel life everywhere outside the shell; how she wished that she, too, could join the sounds of the outer world. It sounded like an adventure just waiting to happen. How boring it was, to be stuck in an egg for nearly 100 years!

But I am not ready, she thought to herself sadly. The world would not welcome me yet. When the time comes, that is when I shall emerge.

Instead of fuming, the young dragon observed and waited. She listened to the sounds of different calls of birds and the crashing of water somewhere nearby. It sounded tropical from the noises that were around her. But those weren’t the only noises she could here. It had remained peaceful for a while, but then there came the sounds of roaring and ripping of flesh.
What is going on? She wondered to herself. Why does it sound so violent?
A dark aura swept the little dragon away, not the comforting darkness she was cloaked in at the moment. It was evil, and it had come to destroy. She didn’t know what, but it had a great purpose. There were screams and roars that shook her mind like a terrible earthquake, making her shiver uncomfortably. All she could do was listen; she told herself that, even though she wanted to hatch, she could not; not yet. It would be too dangerous. The intense heat told her more than that.

Then something else had come; something that held immense power. There was a flash of white light and the dragoness went deep into her subconscious.

When the little dragoness had come back, she could detect no evil. It was all peaceful once again. The sounds of birds called, but it was different. The songs had changed and the birds seemed to be further away. Perhaps she was moved to another location. It was possible; sometimes dragons moved their dragon eggs to a safer location in case there was too much danger. She felt more nervous than before to hatch, wondering what kind of a world waited for her now.

Many years passed for the little dragon, and she kept telling herself to wait until the time was right. Then it happened; something clicked in her mind to tell her to hatch. She knew it had to have been her instincts, otherwise her mind was telling her to stay within the egg. The dragoness knew that she was supposed to hatch on the 200th year that her egg was laid.

She could hear some movement further away from her as she began to make her way out of the egg. She could tell from the presence it was a dragon. The dragoness had felt the presence before, but not for a long time. She could hear him and his thoughts as he broadcasted them out to her.

Are you alive?

The dragoness was startled, and had nearly stopped her work, when she answered.

Yes, she whispered.

It took her a while, but the little dragon was finally free from the comforts of her egg. The sun’s rays blind her momentarily, for the lighting outside was different than when she saw it from within. She blinked a couple of times and pulled herself completely out of the egg and almost fell. She was sitting on top of a root, many webs of roots to be correct, and finds that she was under a tree. The tree was massive; it towered above all the other trees that surrounded it. The dragon felt timid and small compared to the outside world, and knew none of it.

She shivered when a breeze blew through the small clearing, from the result of being slightly wet from the egg membrane. She shook off what remained and looked around. She could see the dragon standing a dragon-length or two away, in the shade of the trees.

Who are you? she asks as she crawled from the tree towards him. She stumbled over her own feet and wings from not being used to walking before.

I am known as Rodan, he rumbled, staring down at her with a great wisdom that almost overwhelmed the dragoness. He was gold, with amber eyes that sparkled with kindness as he continued to look her over. I am 1,000 years old; that is why I appear so enormous. What is your name, young one?

The dragoness thought for a moment, not sure what her name was. She wasn’t given a name, though she remembered she had thought up a name for herself when she was in the egg for about fifty years.

I am Elcyon, she stated, puffing her chest out with pride. She took another step forward, only to stumble into the dirt. She coughed a couple of times, shaking away the dirt. Uh, pretend you didn't see that. She realized that she was still only a hatchling and was in the presence of a dragon older and wiser than herself. Elcyon looked up at Rodan shyly. Are you my father?

The great dragon nodded. Indeed I am. I’ve been waiting for you to arrive, Elcyon. I knew you would choose your own name; that is how I named, after all.

He continued to stare at her, as though he were trying to solve a puzzle that could not be solved.

Why do you look at me that way? she wondered, looking over herself. There seemed to be nothing wrong with her.

Your egg color, he murmured, nodding towards the tree. Elcyon looked back and could see the remains of her shell. It was pure white.

What about it? Elcyon pressed.

Rodan beckoned her forward towards a small pool that collected at the base of a tree. He pointed to it, and replied, Look in the pool to see yourself.

Elcyon hesitantly walked forward, not sure what she would see. She closed her eyes and bent forward, her eyes still shut. Finally, she opened them and gasped. Her scales were a dark black, dark as the night itself. However, when the sun shone on it, red shined from the depths of the blackness. Her eyes were ice blue, though gold circled her pupils in a golden ring. She was startled, for Elcyon expected to be white, not black.

What’s wrong with me? she practically wailed, looking up at Rodan with fright.

Nothing, dear child, Rodan assured her. You were born with black scales, though you were born from a white eggshell. You are a healthy young dragon, with nothing to fear. Trust in your father, he whispered, wrapping his tail around her comfortingly.

Elcyon nodded. I guess, she murmured.

She continued to watch her reflection, and noticed with growing dread the purple that slowly began to appear in the gold of her eyes. She doesn’t mention this to Rodan, for she knew that he would only assure her that nothing was wrong.

Post Re: The Shadow Behind the Light
II – Revealing

It had been one year since Elcyon had hatched from her egg, and Elcyon had grown into a fine, young dragon. Her body became more sleek and thin, and her tail was whip-like. Her wings were elegant and large, perfect for everyday flying adventures. She had explored many places on the island, and had even found a cliff that sat high above the treetops. It had the perfect view of both the ocean and the sky. When Elcyon saw the sky at night for the first time, it took her breath away. She begged Rodan to help her find a place for the perfect star-gazing spot. That was when they found the cliff together. They called it the Star Cliff in the honor of the stars.

During that time, Elcyon had learned how to fly, from the help of Rodan. It wasn’t easy, for she was clumsy and often crashed into trees. But finally, she was able to maintain steady wing-beats and could fly for long distances. Rodan was so proud; he was practically swelling with pride. He often told her of stories that were of ancient dragons and what they accomplished. Elcyon listened intently to what he had to say, absorbing his words as though they were something out of a fairy-tale.

One day, Elcyon came back from eating a deer she found grazing in a patch of field to find Rodan basking in the golden sunlight.

Greetings, father, she said cheerfully, licking her mouth clean of blood.

Hello, Elcyon, he replied, sitting up slowly. How was your hunt? Did you see anything of great interest?

It went splendid. I caught a deer, and I found a beautiful waterfall somewhere near the center of the island. She joined him in the sunlight, opening her wings to absorb some of the sun’s warmth. Father, I’m curious…why aren’t there any other dragons on the island? I've been on the island for so long, and when I was exploring, there are never any dragons on here.

An island is only a place for refuge, my young daughter, Rodan rumbled, looking down at her. You might not have seen any because dragons come here to think, or to relax from day-to-day stress.

Yeah, but I’ve lived here all my life, Elcyon pointed out. You were here too. There must have been a family who lived here once long ago. And anyway, why haven’t I met my mother? she asked.

Your mother… Rodan hesitated. She used to live here with a few dragons, he admitted. They preferred the island life rather than living on Alagaesia. But something came…and attacked the group of dragons living here. There were many, and I was not there to see them, until too late. I found no survivors, he whispered. The land was charred and barren, as far as the eye could see. It took the island a long time to heal itself, but it gradually overcame the great evil that tried to burrow in.

Elcyon listened, never interrupting. She had never really known what had transpired on Illium, but she could remember the heat and terrible screams that cried out into the air. It had sent her into a state of unconsciousness because of it. She wasn’t able to observe for quite some time before she awakened from it.

You said though…that you came to the island before the impact, she suddenly whispered. Wouldn’t you have been here with my mother?

Rodan did not say anything for a few moments. Finally, he sighed. You’re not that young of a dragon anymore. I suppose it’s time for me to tell you the truth. I found you lying among the roots of a large tree here. I dared not to approach it, for it gave off some kind of force field that warded off anything living. Once you hatched, I figured you were only an orphan. No one else was around at the time, and I knew that someone had to take you under their wing.

Elcyon stared at Rodan in horror. Are you to tell me…you’re not my real father? That I’m some lost dragon without any parents at all?

When Rodan didn’t answer, Elcyon knew the terrible truth. She felt as though a hole had been ripped open in her chest, tearing at her heart to inflict a wound that would never heal.

How…how could you lie to me like that? she gasped, getting up and taking a step back. You…you… Elcyon couldn’t think of any word to call him that described what she saw in Rodan now. She finally cried out. I hate you!

With that, Elcyon turned and took off into the sky, never realizing how quickly she could move through the air. She could hear Rodan trying to call her back, but she ignored him. She didn’t want to see him ever again, or at least not for a long time. She could not understand why he would lie to her like that, just so he could claim he had a daughter!

Elcyon made her way to the Star Cliff, where she sat on top and cried. Nothing was making sense anymore. Rodan said she was found, which meant that her parents could either be alive or dead. Not only that, but she was found in the roots of some kind of tree. She made a mental note that she was going to travel to this tree, and investigate it. Elcyon felt betrayed and hurt from the things Rodan had hidden from her over the past year, and it made her sick to her stomach. Of all things that he told her, he couldn’t tell her that she was his adopted hatchling?

She stayed on the cliff for hours, even when she felt her belly rumble from hunger. The sun had set, and the stars were just beginning to shine when they are normally hidden during the day. The beauty of the stars took her breath away, and left her wondering what mysteries the stars held. The water that surrounded the ocean was reflecting the clear night sky, so that it seemed that the sky was endless, filled with billions of specks of light everywhere she looked.

After a while of being by herself, she heard the large wing beats of Rodan come to join her on the cliff. She could sense his sorrow, probably for himself. But she knew Rodan better than she knew herself; that sorrow was for her. He probably felt sorry that her past was so clouded with shadows. It seemed like everything was just a big mystery to her now.

Elcyon, Rodan murmured soothingly. Please listen,

No, I’m not going to listen to you anymore, Elcyon hissed viciously. You have probably filled my head with lies ever since I hatched. I can’t believe anything you say anymore.

Rodan didn’t have anything to reply to that. He only whispered, I’m sorry, Elcyon. I am so sorry for deceiving you like that. I figured, you needed a parent to love you and to teach you many things. What I did was wrong and I had no right to say you were my daughter.

Then why didn’t you tell me from the beginning that I wasn’t your flesh and blood? Elcyon demanded, glaring at him venomously.

Rodan chuckled dryly. I suppose I could have done that. I guess I had not thought of that. For that, I am an ignorant fool.

No, she whispered, looking at the ground. You’ve taught me many things that are true, like how to fly and how to fight. Those things could not have been lies. You are not ignorant.

They were silent for a while, not able to say anything about the subject for quite some time. Finally, it was Rodan who broke the silence.

Elcyon, I was meaning to give this to you further in time, but I suppose it is time you were given it, he said softly, edging closer to Elcyon. He handed her something. Here, take it as a gift from…a friend.

She looked down to see a book and a bird’s feather in the older dragon’s claw. It was the color of the earth, brown, with special golden characters scripted on the cover. This was something Elcyon had never seen before, and was interested in it automatically.

What is it? she wondered, taking the book from Rodan.

That is a journal, which I found buried beneath some rocks not too long after you hatched. I know with your curiosity, I figured you could record some of your findings into it, he rumbled half-heartedly. He then tilted his head. What do you think?

Elcyon looked up at Rodan, the anger from her system completely gone. You…you’re giving this to me? She nuzzled her head up against Rodan’s neck. Thank you…thank you so much, father. I’m sorry I acted so childishly before. I’ll never speak to you like that ever again.

Elcyon knew that, despite that Rodan wasn’t her real father, he acted just like any father that she could have had. He had always treated her well, and always listened to her problems. If anything, he was the father she never had.

OOC: Well, if anyone has read this and hasn't replied, I've decided to put this on hold. I haven't time to really write in it, and I have other stories I have that need my utmost attention. Sorry for the hold-up, but it's going to continue. I'll try to post in it soon.

Aw, well thank you Ben! :D Actually, I've been kind of busy, but I've been trying to work on it. The fanfic is called Treacheries of the Past, for Hobsyllwin. :) But it's nice to have another fan! :) lol.

Post Re: The Shadow Behind the Light
OOC: Okay, now that I've had time, I've worked on another installment of El's past. :D Hope you're ready!

IC:

III – Vanished

The sun rose over the eastern horizon, portraying the clouds in golden and red light. The stars were vanishing in the morning sun and the blackness was dissipating. Elcyon had woken to the sun, and stretched with a happy rumble. The light felt good on her body, considering she had fallen asleep on the cliff top again.

It had been six months since Elcyon had learned that Rodan was not her real father. It had been a rocky start, their relationship in danger of falling apart. But after a while, El learned to forgive and forget, and she felt appreciative for Rodan to take her in, when he didn’t have to. It wasn’t his fault that El wasn’t as understanding as she had been. She even felt bad for saying all those awful things when she knew in her heart she never meant any of them.

During her time on the island, El began to explore more and more. It was quite a large island, but she had nearly explored every bit. She was willing to venture towards the center of her birthplace, when Rodan had sternly told her never to go there.

Why not? she asked him continuously.

There is nothing there worth exploring, he replied hastily. You’ll only get hurt.

I wish you would just tell me, she mumbled, feeling betrayal rise in her chest once again, and her feelings were beginning to reach her eyes.

Rodan could see them clearly, and his expression saddened. I only worry about you, my daughter, he whispered comfortingly. I would never want to send you off somewhere where you could get hurt.

I know, she murmured, smiling. I know you worry, but you needn’t worry that much! For goodness sakes, you’ll end up getting killed if you continue on like this! Besides, it’s my birthplace; I wish to see it more clearly now that I am older.

She could see the conflict in his eyes, the protection and the amusement at her willing to explore. Finally, he sighed, defeated. I know you’ll only go anyway. You may go there, but come home soon; we have many things to discuss.

Like what?

I know questions will bubble up in that intelligent mind of yours, he chortled. Once you see your birthplace, you’ll understand.

El continued to give him a quizzical look until she nodded and took off into the sky. She rode the winds higher, and higher, until she was above the island. From there, she could see the tree. It wasn’t directly in the middle, more off to the right and further north than she had thought. From there, she dived about ten feet away from the location of the tree, staring at it in awe.

The tree was white, leaf-less, as if all life was drained from it. However it seemed to harvest a life energy that spread throughout the forest, taking El’s breath away. She made herself comfortable by the huge roots and took out her journal.

As she sat there, El began to feel strange. The energy that emitted from the tree made her feel as though she knew this tree’s soul. El didn’t push these feelings away, and instead wrote them down. She wrote everything from the feelings, to her surroundings. She even drew the tree in the journal. That was when she drew the tree inside of it, and she wrote what Rodan had told her; there was a legend that says a curse was placed on the tree long ago, since the tree was nearly killed and the island depended on the tree’s life force. It seemed like an ordinary tree to El, except for the energy that emitted from the tree. Rodan told her never to approach the tree, but she didn’t see the reason why she shouldn’t. She was perfectly fine. Perhaps he was just being concerned for her, and nothing more.
When El had finished sketching the tree inside her journal, she looked up at the tree, smiling to herself. It was hard to believe that almost two years ago she had hatched right underneath the tree. It gave her serene silence, and El took it welcomingly. She closed her eyes and placed her head on her claws, drifting into a comforting slumber.

El began to dream, and she knew she was, though she wanted to see what would happen. There was screaming, and the stench of blood filled the air. She felt so frightened, not for herself, but for whoever was being hurt. Dragons filled the sky, and it would have been a sight to behold, if it weren’t for them fleeing the island and creatures attacking them by jumping far off the ground and landing on the dragon’s backs.

The creatures…what are they? El wondered.

Elcyon!!! El heard a scream before she woke up, startled.

Elcyon, where are you? she heard her name being called again. It was Rodan, and he sounded worried.

Was it just Rodan calling me? she thought, gazing up at the tree. No, it was a female’s voice…

El got up, picked up her journal, and walked briskly away from the tree. She turned back and looked at the tree, though this time it seemed like any ordinary tree, and she couldn’t even feel the strange energy. Perhaps she dreamed it all?

She was so deep in thought; she hadn’t realized Rodan in front of her and nearly ran into him.

Elcyon, where have you been? he demanded. I’ve been looking all over for you! I told you to come home soon, and it’s nearly twilight!

El looked up at Rodan with a glazed look. What do you mean? She looked up at the darkening sky, and had realized that he was right. Oh, I’m sorry, I got sidetracked, she murmured, bowing her head in shame.

Rodan sighed. I forgive you. Now go to Star Cliff, I’ll join you in a minute. There’s something I need to talk to you about.

Oh, that’s right! El exclaimed with excitement. I’ll meet you up there! El took off into the sky, and immediately looked for Star Cliff. There, she landed and sat out her journal, gazing up at the twinkling stars that were beginning to appear. Thinking quickly, El took out the paints she had made from the dye of flowers and colored dirt and took out a brush that was made out of hairs from animal pelts after she had had a meal. Then she began to paint the twilight sky that still had it’s pink and just a tad orange in the west, with the stars above the colors and the ocean just below. It took El a long time, long after twilight had come and gone, but El had a great memory and she held the picture of the twilight scene in her mind as clear as she would have seen it before her.

When she was done, El took her journal and held it up, admiring the way it looked almost identical to the sky. She was surprised; almost every time she attempted to paint something, it always turned out terribly. Rodan, no matter how many times El messed up, would always compliment her about her talent. She even remembered the talk they had a while ago, when she was six months old and when she had attempted to paint a flower on a rock.

It’s terrible! she pouted, throwing her paintbrush to the ground in a pout. I’ll never be able to paint!

Don’t say that, El, Rodan comforted her. I think it looks beautiful.

Do you even know what it is? El asked bitterly.

Yes I do, it’s a…it’s the sun, right? he teased her.

Father! El whined. You don’t really see a sun, do you?

No, I see a flower, he replied with a grin. You have to look past what you see, and look for the inner beauty. Art is art, no matter how you make of it.

El smiled up at him, a bit of mischief sparkled in her eyes. Even if I make paint splatters? Would that be considered art?

Yes, I suppose that would be considered, Rodan began to say but he never finished. El had picked up one of her brushes and covered it with so much paint, that when she splattered it against his side, it left a globular mess. Rodan pretended to be absolutely appalled and scolded El for using her art for evil, when he picked up a brush himself and flung some paint at El. She giggled loudly and very soon, they were both in a paint war.

By the time they had finished with the war, they were both covered with paint, almost to the point where their original scale colors couldn’t be seen. They were both laughing good-humoredly as they went to the waterfall to wash off the paint.

That was the most fun that I’ve had in six hundred years! Rodan smirked. I’m glad I was able to spend the day with you, my daughter.

And I you, she said, giggling. The water felt good on El’s scales, but she knew she couldn’t be under the falls forever, so she got out and went to the Star Cliff, which they had just discovered that same day. Rodan had done the same, and joined her on the cliff. He was looking across the ocean at the setting sun, and said,

It’s a good thing you found this place, El. It’s an amazing sight.

It wouldn’t be as fun if I didn’t have someone to share it with, she retorted, smiling.

This is true, Rodan agreed, rumbling with laughter. Then, he sighed. El, I’ve been meaning to ask you… He hesitated.

Go on, she urged him.

How long do you plan to stay with me? he finally rushed out.

El looked up at her father, bewildered. What do you mean? I want to stay with you forever!

Rodan laughed once. Thank you, but that’s not what I meant. Soon, you’ll be old enough to look after yourself, and I…well, I can see the adventures you’re about to embark on. Even in your eyes, he added, looking down at her, studying her, I can see your longing to search the world, find new discoveries.

El shrugged, but really, her heart soared when her father mentioned adventures and new sights.

And that means you’ll meet someone to share those journeys with, someone who will care about you more than anything, he continued.

What do you mean, a mate? El exclaimed, and started laughing. Sorry, Father, but I’m planning never to settle down! I want to explore the world from here to the ends! I want to see it all! She said all of this as she gazed out over the ocean. I won’t have time to settle down with a mate and have kids. Then she turned to look up at Rodan. But even if I leave for the adventures…can I still come back and visit you?

Rodan rumbled. Of course you can! There’s nothing stopping you, is there?

No, I suppose not, El murmured, slowly smiling.

There will always be a place for you here, he said, wrapping his tail around her lovingly. You’ll always be my daughter, and I’ll be here, waiting for your return, always wanting to hear of your adventures, even if you’re not back in one hundred years.
El had forgotten that conversation she had with Rodan, and she laughed to herself when she remembered thinking all of those things. Seeing the world, never settling…was that still true? Her sense of adventure was still there, that was for certain.

The moon was beginning to rise, being in it’s crescent form, and El was beginning to worry. It was usually at this time that Rodan would have joined her by then. She stood up, and picked up her journal, looking around. She couldn’t sense him anywhere, even his mind.

Father? she called out, sending her thoughts all over the island. If he were there, he would answer her. But only the silence answered. She was beginning to feel frantic as she dove off the cliff and searched the island.

Father! El screamed, but he was not there. It was as if he vanished into thin air.

Father, where are you?!

Okay, so it's been what, three months? Yeah, I'm sorry if everyone was waiting for a chapter of El's past but...I'm afraid I haven't had enough time to write it all down...but I'll try to come up with something this weekend if I can. Otherwise, this'll probably be on hold for a while...I apologize.

   Believe me Ben, I wouldn't want to keep you on hold if it's that addicting. However, with only so much time with rping and homework (since I don't have access to a computer at home anymore *tear*) I can't work on it...but I'll try to get as much done as I can! :D

IC:

IV – Confusion

Elcyon had fallen asleep later that night, feeling dejected and so alone, more than she had ever felt in her entire life. The feeling could not be described, it was as though a hole was being torn open in her heart and she feared that the hole would never be closed again.

The days felt like weeks, the weeks months. Time was irrelavent to El, especially since she had not done anything productive in the time she lay there on the cliff, staring out towards the sea waiting in vain for Rodan to return to Illium. At first, El wrote in her journal every day, how her thoughts and memories brought pain like salt being fed to an open wound, but after time, her writing was becoming the same and so she soon stopped altogether.

When about half of the year passed away from El, she began to clear her mind and pull out of her moping pose. It was time to leave the island, perhaps for good. She had no idea what was in store for her if she left, but it would be better to get away from the memories that floated in her mind whenever she looked around the island.

With a sad sigh, El picked up her journal, lifted her wings, and took off quickly into the sky, over the ocean. She enjoyed the fresh air that whipped past her as she turned her head to look back at Illium, which had very quickly dwindled away into the horizon until it was nothing but a strip of blue that matched the water surrounding it.

Her traveling had taken her towards the main land, which she had never before seen with her very eyes. It was strange, that she could fly for miles and always see land under her like a large, rolling blanket. The mountains to her left seemed intriguing, as El had remembered with sad prick of her heart that Rodan had metioned the story of the first dragon rider and how he found his dragon in it. This was most likely the Spine. El remembered vividly how Rodan painted the picture in her mind how it was a vast mountain chain along the west coast of the main land, and made El want to travel through to ease her curiousity.

As El travels around, she attempts to get to know the wind urrents and quickly finds out it takes a lot of effort just to turn. She has to eventually fly lower so as not to run into any currents and waste energy.

There was a comfortable spot on a ledge with a scattering of trees among the rocks that seemed perfect for El to rest on. She made a quick landing and stretched her sore wings, wincing that they will be like this for the next day or two. She had been flying for nearly six hours, and has never had to endure such a flight before in her life.

As she made herself comfortable, El heard a rustling in the trees next to her. From out of nowhere, strange creatures emerged with agility of the likes El had never seen before. They attacked her viciously, hardly giving her a chance to escape. She practically leaped off the ledge in a messy take-off and got higher up above the mountains. How strange! What were those creatures? They certianly were not fire demons I know that much...

El shook the uneasiness from her system as she flew onward. She felt determined to get to know every inch of Alagaesia, and she would begin at this point. Nothing was going to keep her from finding out information.

After about another hour of flying with cramped wings, El found another good bare spot among oak trees and landed quickly. She shook out her wings, attempting to stretch out the muscles that would be screaming with agony later on. As she did this, El could hear voices coming from within a secluded surrounding of shrubs and small trees. She leaned in closer to hear these voices, careful to keep her presence hidden. From what she could tell, they were two legs, about four of them in a circle, from what Rodan had told her long ago to be wary of.

"What's the news from Carvahall?" one of the men asks another.

"Nothing can get passed through, now that that dictator," the other spits, "is running everything. Can you believe this? I had to pay to cross that bridge over that river that's before Carvahall. I used to never have to pay for that!"

"It seems we'll be paying in other things besides money," one of the older men murmurs. "Don't you know he's beginning to kill dragons with special powers or strength in general? Apparently, he has something planned to take over everything and doesn't want the dragons involved. I mean, I have a good friend who's a rider to one of them. I've met that dragon, and I see no reason as to why he should be killed. It sickens me how that man thinks."

El had been jotting all of the things these men were saying. A man who was willing to kill dragons just to gain power? What kind of a corrupt individual would do something like that?

She had been scribbling so fiercely, El hadn't noticed the men had stopped talking. One of them was coming around to dump a bucket of water to the side, when apparently he had spotted El among the shadows.

"What is this?" He looked closely at El as soon as she looked up. The man widened his eyes in fear and instantly shouted, "Demon dragon! There's a wild dragon around! It's a demon! Run for your lives! It's an ominous sign I'm sure! Its eyes and black scales...!"

They had all taken off before El could get a chance to explain herself. She was left, feeling dejected and self-concious about her appearance. She had never thought herself demon-like, but what if they were right? She was born from a white egg, though the color of her scales were black. What if something truly was something...demonic...about her presence?

Lovely continuation, Astral, quite lovely. It was sad, but nicely-done. :D

And it won't be too much longer before she enters the rping world, correct? She just does a little exploring first?

Thank you, Draco. :D Actually, it's a little more than exploration, but I won't say anything ;) There were some things that I planned out that would happen to her before she enters rp. :D

OOC: Heh heh...um...it's been quite the time since I've looked at this rp and I've gotten a boost of writing energy that I'm dying to put to use! :) For whoever was reading this, get ready...here comes part V! :D And with an ominous title too...heeheehee.

IC:

V - Tainted

Sadness rose in her chest along with El as she made her way into the sky that cloaked her in darkness. El felt that maybe, perhaps, she was meant to be submersed in shadows, for her scales had not matched her egg shell when she had been born. The fact that it was a cloudy night, it made El feel even more alone than she ever had before. What could she do, if two-legs that were against this…evil dictator feared her very prescience?

El found refuge along the Beor Mountains where the wind was brisk and the population of…well, any living creature was near to none. She shivered as she made her landing on a ledge that overlooked a deep gorge where the snow was a few feet deep. The ledge harbored a cave that echoed the wind in an eerie sighing. El tucked her journal closer to her side as she took a few steps forward, hesitant, despite the fact that it would keep her warm against the bitter wind. When it appeared to be non-threatening, El quickly found a spot to sit against the wall that, even though it’s smooth, cool walls kept her shivering, maintained some heat when she had been sitting there over a period of time.

El bowed her head as she went into one of her deep thought sessions again. How could life be so cruel when all she had ever known was adventure and happiness? Rodan, her only father figure, had mysteriously disappeared. If that wasn’t torture enough, El then discovered that black dragons are some-what uncommon, especially with blue eyes that make her appear like a demon as those humans had fearfully called her. She wondered if maybe her life held no meaning, that she was destined to dwell in the sadness that had silently engulfed her, forcing her into solitude. What could a dragon such as herself do in situations like these?

I sense your confusion and sadness, young dragon, a dry voice whispered from within the depths of the caves.

El jumped at the sound of another voice filling her head, but then composed herself again to answer more dignified-like. There is nothing wrong, I've merely come here to rest and think. My business is nothing you need to worry about.

You sound wise beyond your years, young'en, the voice replied in a chuckle. Why not join me and my comrads? I would like to trade stories with you, if you wouldn't mind.

How do I know you're not someone I ought to fend off rather than simply talk to? El stated coolly with little tolerance for this...whoever he was.

If I was your enemy, I would have already attacked, wouldn't I? I know of your location...and somewhat more, he added calmly, patiently, as though he were baiting El to argue some more.

When El couldn't think of a plausible reason behind his statement, she gave in. Very well, where are you?

We are further in the cave, you will know where to go it isn't far, he answered.

El got up and stretched out her sore limbs before emmersing herself further into the blackness.

It was dark for a long time, until torches lit the walls with their warm, orange glow. Along the walls, El could see strange markings, almost like heiroglyphics that formed a hidden language El had never heard of.

OOC: Sorry, I just want to post this for now, I'll post the rest of it later when I finish. ^_^
