 The Beast Within
OOC: Anyone can join. IC: Natori panted heavily, sprinting through the dark forest. He wasn't running in any particular direction, but just away. Away from civilization and away from people that he could hurt unknowingly. He jumped over the underbrush and shoved foliage and stickies out of his way, obtaining bloody scratches in the process. The only light came from the luminous moon, and that didn't do much to illuminate the blackness that surrounded him. A roar was unconsciously uttered from Natori's lips and it echoed in every direction. He was becoming more and more frantic; more and more afraid that he would lose to the conflict within him.
He knew not where Feroc was, but the last thing he wanted to do was hurt his wolf companion. It had happened right when Feroc had went hunting. They had been camping outside of Gil'ead, and Feroc had vanished into the woods that lay directly behind them. When Feroc had left, Natori was hardly aware of his actions from then on. However, he watched from the sidelines as he obtained some sickening desire to kill, and he relished in the blood spilled from his "enemies".
Whatever was inside of him had taken over. Looking for people to strike down, the Beast wandered into Gil'ead and wrecked havoc in the city. Every living being, whether it be child, woman, man, or even a pet or wandering animal, that came into his sight hadn't been spared from the endless destruction. Natori blinked off the tears that surfaced from just thinking about it. Even now, his keen sense of smell could sniff the cloudy smoke that drifted away from Gil'ead. Fires were all over the city.
He had always been an outcast, but he had only recently become a monster.

 Re: The Beast Within
OOC: Excellent, I've been meaning to use these two for awhile now. "What d'ya think Naor? Good place to camp, or should we move on?" Asa yawned sleepily at the sky blue dragoness. He was slumped lazily in her saddle, peering around a secluded forest clearing with blurry eyes. They had been flying for days on end, ever since he had gotten into that fight with Imperial soldiers and Naor had had to rescue him. He couldn't even remember what the fight had been about, and frankly, he didn't care anymore. All he cared about was the fact that his recklessness had put Naor into such a tight spot. She was in worse shape than he was, practically falling over asleep with him on her back.
I don't... care... Any place is good right now... she panted. Normally she wouldn't have pushed herself so hard, but since she had been forced to reveal herself, it was only a matter of time before Galbatorix sent someone to capture them.
Asa nodded and climbed out of the saddle. He summoned a werelight and was just undoing the last buckle on her chest when a tremendous roar sounded through the night. The giant of a man jumped in surprise and whirled around, no longer tired. He didn't see anything, but that cry had been close. He unsheathed his sword and reached behind him with one hand to lift the saddle off Naor's back. Loose like it was, it would only inhibit her movements and there was no time to tighten it back up. He groaned at the weight of it, then tossed it unceremoniously under a tree.
The Rider turned so he was watching behind Naor, knowing she would watch his back in turn. Naor, something tells me this isn't a good spot. he chuckled, eyes searching the darkness.
Something tells me you're right, now put out that werelight! she replied, still breathing heavily. Darkness spilled in from every side as the werelight faded away. She blinked once and her eyes adjusted to the darkness. Nothing was going to sneak up on her Rider, not if she had a say about it.

 Re: The Beast Within
He couldn't hold it off for much longer. The hunger of the Beast was overwhelming, and Natori felt himself succumbing to the Beast's contagious influence. He placed his hands on his cheeks and glared towards the ground, almost as if he were trying to hold the Beast out of his mind with his hands. He threw his arms to the side and sharply turned to face the full moon. Letting out a roar that oozed of insanity, Natori's form began to change gradually.
A blue cloak of energy covered his form, giving him a makeshift tail constructed of energy and growing talons as well. There were to halves to his soul, and if one could sense his soul now, that person would only see a true beast. A light caught Natori's attention for a moment and he sharply turned in its direction. He dropped on all fours and began running towards the light. Light at this time of night meant people, and people meant slaughter.
He pounced out of the underbrush and sunk his claws into a large person, the momentum of his pounce carrying the both of them to the ground. Natori rolled and came back up on all fours, growling menacingly.

 Re: The Beast Within
OOC: I hope it's okay if I join. IC: Yssala ran through the forest, it was dark, but with the light of her friends she could see as though she had a lanturn to aid her. There were theives after her an hour ago, and Yssala told herself she had to keep going and make them lose her. Pheo had been flying above, he only slept when she slept. He was her eyes, where she could not see. Even in dim light he could hear things and alarm her right away.
In the darkness, the faeries flew up to Yssala's face and forced her to stop. Panting, Yssala leaned against the trunk of a tree. Her friends whispered in her ear, telling her of a strange creature not native to these woods. Yssala nodded and took care in tiptoeing her way through, her hand instinctively near her bow in case she'd need it.
A blood-curtling howl rang through the trees, sending a shiver up Yssala's spine. She pin-pointed the sound, and heard some rustling ahead. There was someone else there as well, her faerie friends had told her, and she worried that whatever creature it was would harm them.

 Re: The Beast Within
Naor heard something running towards them on her right side, the side Asa was standing on. She snarled savagely and whipped around to slash at whatever it was with her claws, but missed. It collided with Asa and she felt a stabbing pain on her right side as the thing's claws cut him open. She shrieked in anger, twisting around again and ripping the thing away from Asa. Back OFF! she roared, bathing the ground in front of the thing with bright blue flames. The dragoness crouched over her Rider protectively, hissing furiously. Her slit pupils were so thin that at first glance her eyes appeared to be completely blue.
Asa groaned and tried to sit up, crying out in pain as his torn skin seemed to burst into flame with agony. He gritted his teeth and tried again, sucking in a sharp breath with each movement. His sword was on the ground where he had dropped it when the beast had hit him.
Asa! Are you all right? Naor asked, still hissing and keeping herself between him and his attacker.
I'm fine. What is that thing? he asked. He recoiled from her mind slightly so she wouldn't feel the full extent of his pain. The Rider frowned when she moved and he got his first unimpeded look of what had injured him.
It was a man with white hair, surrounded by a blue aura-like light. Whatever the energy was, it had taken the form of something with a tail and savage claws. He assumed it was these claws that had cut him up so easily. "Waise heill," Asa mumbled, holding his dragon-marked palm over the wound. He felt his strength drop as the wound sealed itself and stopped when it had a layer of reasonably healed skin over it. That'll have to do for now. he said, staving off Naor's insistences that he heal himself completely.
He rolled out from under Naor, grabbed his sword, and jumped to his feet all in one fluid movement. "Now, what have we got here?" he said nonchalantly. He was panting slightly from exertion. Those claws must have cost him more blood than he had originally thought.

 Re: The Beast Within
Natori uttered another roar, sensing another nearby consciousness. He had just noticed the dragon and growled. The Transformation continued until his skin was replaced with raging blue particles. Black lines were etched on his body, and his eyes and mouth were a perpetual black. He drew his arm in and shot it out towards the man he had pounced on. The arm extended, constructed completely of blue energy. It whipped towards the man, grabbing onto a nearby tree. Natori used this to propel him towards the man and he drew in his other claw, swiping it at the man when he came close.

 Re: The Beast Within
Yssala gasped, as a beast of sorts stepped out from the shadows towards a man and a dragon. The man seemed injured, but was able to heal somewhat. She had heard of them, the dragonriders, and their magic abilities to heal and whatnot. Her long, braided hair thumped against her back as she sprinted towards the assailant, her bow extended with an arrow ready in hand. She stopped and took aim at the creature's arm that came close to swiping at the man. With an intake of breath, Yssala let go of the arrow as it propelled itself towards the arm. Meanwhile, the faeries behind her began to emerge from the shadows when Yssala made motions for them to stay hidden. She didn't want to endanger their lives, nor did she want her location to be revealed right then and there. Though after the arrow was shot, she knew her presence would be known fairly quickly.

 Re: The Beast Within
Asa cursed as the man seemed to finish whatever demonic transformation he was going through. The Rider was a little stunned by his appearance, and was almost too late to block him as he used his arm, which extended to a freakish length, to pull himself towards the Rider and slashed at him again. "No sir, not that again!" Asa yelled, bringing his sword up sharply to deflect the blow. Sparks danced along the length of the blade as the beast's claws struck.
Naor, can you contain him somehow? he asked tensely, still holding the claws off with his blade. He was fairly certain that the blade would have already failed him if it hadn't been a Rider's sword. Just as he had this thought, an arrow came out flying out of nowhere. His head whipped around, trying to see where it came from. He thought he saw a dark shape standing beside some trees, outlined by strange moving lights, but he wasn't sure.
I could, but with what? she grumbled, reaching around Asa with one paw. She backhanded the creature as hard as she could, sending it flying back into a tree trunk. If I hold him with my claws, there's always the chance he could extend his arm like that again, and pierce my heart with those claws.
Asa grimaced at the thought even as his own heart twinged at the mental image. You're right, we can't risk it. Maybe he'll come out of it soon? he said, finishing on a hopeful note. "I don't know who you are, but best be looking sharp at those claws. He's already got me with them once," Asa called out loud, not even sure if there was someone there to call to.
Naor's head whipped around and she eyed the woman standing there. You're not crazy, although I'm starting to think I am. That's twice in five minutes someone has snuck up on you with me here. she said to her Rider, disapproval at herself plain in her voice.
Ah, don't trouble yourself love, your mind was elsewhere. he said kindly, brandishing his sword threateningly to ward off their attacker.

 Re: The Beast Within
An arrow buried itself into his blue, energy-composed arm. Natori roared at the pain, but the arrow combusted into flames after a few moments. A dragon backhanded him, throwing him off of the Rider. Natori's back hit a tree and he fell forward, landing on all fours. Now knowing that another person was present, Natori turned towards the enemy and opened his jaws. A ball of translucent, clear blue energy formed in his mouth, and it shot out with the speed of a dragon. It hit the ground in front of the woman and exploded, most likely throwing her back.
He then turned to face the dragon which had backhanded him earlier. Opening his mouth again, another ball of energy formed, this one caused ripples in the air around it. It charged slowly, gathering up energy from both Natori and its surroundings.~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ (OOC: This part is all happening in Natori's mind. ) IC: Natori grimaced, finding himself in a corridor. The walls were pink and bubbly; overall, rather sickly-looking. Water dripped from the ceiling, and torches hung on the walls, illuminating the area with a small bit of light, just enough to see ten paces in front of him. The rest of the area was an indefinite darkness. Sprinting in a random direction, Natori continued until suddenly, the area around him changed immediately.
The corridor ended at a barren wasteland. The brown soil, cracked in some places, stretched out for miles upon miles. Natori sharply looked around him, expecting to find something. He started running again, but a faint shake caused him to stumble slightly. He glanced behind him, where a black and white being stood, nearly forty feet tall. It's beautiful fur twirled by a slight breeze, some parts white, and other black. The beast had a single tan tail and red eyes with black slits in the middle.
Natori squinted, staring at the being in front of him in disbelief. "What are you?" he uttered harshly. Somehow, he knew that this beast had a connection with the transformation his physical body was undergoing.
"I am your other half," it replied. It examined Natori's questioning and angry expression and shook it's head with disappointment. "You are not yet ready to bear my hatred," it murmured and began stalking off.
"Hey, wait!" Natori shouted, stamping his foot frustratedly. The ground under him disappeared into white and he fell. With a sudden jolt, he was awake.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ The ball suddenly dissipated, the fragments of energy scattering in the wind. Natori's skin returned to its normal color and his expression faded of its recent animosity. With a sigh, Natori fell on the ground, his eyes closed.

 Re: The Beast Within
Yssala was reaching behind her to grab another arrow when she realized with frustration she had run out of arrows. She was glad that her arrow reached its target, yet the feeling was short-lived, as it disintigrated with the energy surrounding the arm. She took into consideration the man's advice about this...creature's claws and tried to find another way to get behind the beast so as to take him by surprise.
"I think it'd be wiser to watch out for that energy surrounding his arm," Yssala called out, stepping into what little light was being emitted. Her green eyes blazed towards the creature. "Who knows what it can do."
Before she could make a move, a blast of energy was flung at the ground about ten feet in front of her, enough to knock her off her feet and send her flying back against a tree. She cried out in agonizing pain as a knot in the tree connected with the back of her skull. Blood dripped down her braid, but she ignored it. Yssala stood, as the faeries gathered around her head and began to mend it with their magic.
"Cool it guys," she muttered, glaring at the beast as she started to pace towards him. "I'll be fine. But thank you," she added kindly. Yssala watched, curiously, as the beast fell to the ground, its energy vanishing with its gruff appearance. In the beast's place was a man, a few years older than her it seemed. Yssala took the opprotunity to get aquainted with the man and dragon who stood a few paces away from her.
"Well, now that he's unconcious," she stated, laughing once, "or at least let's hope he is, I suppose we can get introductions out of the way. I'm Yssala."

 Re: The Beast Within
Asa had been about to throw up a ward to deflect the ball of energy that the beast had been gathering to throw at Naor when the thing collapsed. He stared warily at the unconscious man, walking cautiously towards him. "I'm Asa, and that's my partner, Naor," he said in a distracted voice. He nudged the still form of the man with one toe, then jumped back in case he was faking. The man remained still and Asa crouched down beside him.
"Whatever that was, it's gone. I don't know if this man will be any friendlier when he wakes up though. Do you know him?" he asked, turning to look at their helper.
Naor crowded as close as she could to her Rider, glaring at the woman who had helped them. She didn't care who she was, her Rider had been attacked, and now she was in a bad mood. Would probably be in a bad mood for the next few hours. What I want to know is how did he manage to sneak up on you? You always know when trouble is coming. I can't even sneak up on you in the mornings. Naor said, looking down at her Rider.
"Mmmm... Good point Naor... I think... Hmmm... If I had to hazard a guess, it would be because before this man transformed, he wasn't a threat to us. So of course I wouldn't sense danger coming. And he wasn't quite finished when he appeared and cut my side, was he?" Asa replied, thinking aloud. He could tell at a glance the woman beside them could be trusted, so he didn't bother keeping the conversation between his dragon and himself private.

 Re: The Beast Within
Natori groaned, rubbing his suddenly aching head. He pushed himself up so that he was sitting with his legs crossed, and was surprised to find that the two people he had attacked before were now conversing. He rubbed the back of his head with a grimace, knowing that this would take a lot of explaining. "Erm..." he began, thinking of how to phrase it. He hadn't been in the transformation for long this time, and it hadn't even been a full transformation, so he wasn't too drained.
"I'm sorry; that wasn't me that attacked you. Well, it was, but I didn't mean to. I just sort of...lost it," he finished, staring at the ground intently. He didn't worry about what they were going to do, not even what the dragon was going to do. Even though he was sure that the dragon was very angry at him and wouldn't hesitate in cleaving him in two, he wanted to face whatever punishment these three had in mind for him. He had lost control, and it was his fault that people had gotten hurt.

 Re: The Beast Within
Yssala stood over the man who lay in a crumpled heap, his exprssion now mroe innocent than anything. It was strange, one minute he was trying to kill them the next minute he was nothing more than an innocent person. Though Yssala was no fool to think he was innocent for his crimes. She shook her head when Asa asked if she knew him.
"I do not. I was...already aware that there was something here lurking that wasn't part of nature," Yssala replied. She looked over at Naor, leveling her gaze evenly towards the grumpy dragoness. It was clear that the female wasn't pleased with her presence, though Yssala knew about the bond between a dragon and its rider. She felt protective of him, and they had both nearly died. It was understandable that she was a little more hostile at the moment. Yssala did, after all, have an affinity for any creature. Humans she didn't get along as well with.
When the man came too, Yssala instinctively flashed out her daggar, one hand held out towards the man in case he got up and decided to attack them again. She stood there, watching him for a moment, until it became clear he was nothing like his former self. When he explained what happens when he lost control, Yssala narrowed her eyes but put her daggar away. Then she looked at Asa and Naor. "I suppose it's not really his fault if it's something that he cannot control." She turned her head to glare at the man again. "However I think we should put him in solitary confinement until we are sure he's telling the truth. For all we know, he could very well have transformed himself to harm us." Yssala crossed her arms. "But that's my opinion. You guys had to deal with him first. What do you think?"

 Re: The Beast Within
Asa gnawed on the inside of his cheek, looking the man up and down. "Well like I said, I didn't Sense anything, which I would have if he had meant to harm us. Call it a soldier's instinct, but I can always tell when I'm about to get into trouble. And there's no need to put him in solitary, I can tell just by looking at him that he can be trusted, same as you," he said, "I'm more concerned with what do we do if you transform again." He directed the last comment to the man.
"And since you were unconscious during the introductions, I'm Asa, this is Naor. Best steer clear of her for awhile. She's very... erm.... displeased with you at the moment..." he concluded, smiling understandably at the man.
Naor saw the woman staring at her and fluffed her scales up in a disgruntled fashion, flaring her wings slightly. She had a feeling the woman knew almost as much as Asa how she was feeling right now. It was a little disturbing. Displeased? More like I could dismember him about now. she said, hissing slightly.

 Re: The Beast Within
Ignoring the dragon's comment which sent a chill down his spine, he gazed up at the woman. "Solitary confinement alone would never work. Only a drug to suppress it from the inside would be successful, I think," he murmured. "How exactly would you be sure that I was telling the truth? The only way to be certain is for me to swear on the Ancient Language, and that doesn't require solitary confinement," Natori spoke. His keen ears picked up something...padding its way over here. Judging by the movements, it must have been Feroc. The large wolf approached from the underbrush and made his way over to Natori, sitting down next to his companion casually. What have you gotten yourself into? Feroc whispered to Natori, eying the people.

 Re: The Beast Within
Yssala fumed for a minute, going over Asa's logic about him being trustworthy. After all, Yssala never trusted a human unless he/she proved himself to be trustworthy. "Alright," she finally said. "No confinement necessary I suppose." She looked at the man again, though her gaze softened slightly. "I apologize for jumping to conclusions right away. I'm Yssala," she greeted him. "And I am sorry you had to go through such an ordeal. I suppose if there's anyway we could help from keeping this from happening again...? I know you said a type of drug but perhaps something like this could be removed permanently?"
She watched from the shadows as a wolf joined them a few seconds after the man had spoken. The wolf did not seem hostile, in fact it seemed only wary of everyone else except for the man. It spoke telepathically, so she wondered if there was truth to this man after all. "Hello there," she said, slowly holding her hand out palm facing down towards the wolf. She remained where she was, waiting and hoping the wolf would break the tension between them and the man. "I'm Yssala."

 Re: The Beast Within
Naor's head snapped around as a wolf came stalking out of the forest and seated itself beside the man. Wolves were like the dragons of the non-magical creatures in her opinion, so to see one that trusted him calmed her temper slightly. Your friend attacked my Rider, that's what he's landed himself in. she said hotly, her tail twitching furiously.
"Naor, really, that's enough! This man..." Asa said, pausing when he realized he didn't know the man's name, "this man wasn't himself when he attacked me, so will you please lay off the tough act!"
"I'm sorry, she's really much sweeter than this normally, but on top of your sudden appearance, we've been flying for days on very little sleep. Her nerves are a bit shot," he apologized. He stood suddenly and sheathed his sword before walking over to his saddle. The Rider grunted as he lifted the mass of leather straps and metal buckles. Striding back over to the group he set it on the ground and rummaged around in the saddle bags. "Aha! Here we go! Just what we all need, a little dinner!" he said triumphantly, pulling out the makings for stew.
He set about making a small fire and drew water from the ground to boil. When the fire was hot enough, he set the pot with the water on top of it and added a large pinch of salt to make it boil quicker. "Now while we wait for that, tell us more about what just happened, if you don't mind," he said calmly, leaning back against Naor with his hands behind his head.

 Re: The Beast Within
Feroc looked at Nate in pity. No, no, your dragon is completely valid in her accusation. While my companion wasn't himself when he attacked you, the fact stands that he did attack you Feroc replied.
At Yssala's suggestion, Natori pondered for a moment. "Something to remove it permanently..." he mumbled, deep in thought. He didn't know of any such methods. The Beast had been a part of him ever since he was born. It was because of the Beast that he wasn't human. He decided to think about it later. "I'm Natori, and this is Feroc," Natori greeted himself and his companion.
Natori scratched the back of his head nervously when the man asked him what had happened. "I don't know. This is the first time it has happened. Well, it actually happened about an hour ago in Gil'ead. Then I came to my senses after about ten minutes, and I ran into the forest. Still, for it to happen two times in such a short span of period is most definitely a first." He glanced at the Rider. "I'll remove the wards around me temporarily, so if it happens again, a simple 'Letta' would do the trick, I think."

 Re: The Beast Within
Yssala leaned up against a tree nearby, watching Asa set up a campfire as he prepared to make stew. She wasn't used to this, being around a couple of humans. She was glad at least there was a dragon and her hawk friend to ease some of her tension. The faeries hid within the woods, their magic ready in case the beast came forth in the man apparently called Natori. She then sat down on a rock, taking her daggar out and began sharpening it on her sharpening tool. She listened as Natori explained what happened when he turned into a beast, though she didn't know what else to say to make him feel better. The wolf Feroc seemed friendly enough at least. Maybe he knew more about his friend's past than what he was letting on. But Yssala wasn't going to push him for any information. She was wrapped up in her own thoughts; what was she going to do with her life? She didn't want to become a mage like her grandmother though she did have the powers of one. They lived such a solitary life.
She looked up every now and then, to stare in the fire, watching its embers glow and dance elegently. The elements came to her so easily now, she wouldn't need any strength to pull. But she resisted the urge and once again leaned against the tree.

 Re: The Beast Within
Asa smiled at the wolf, "That's very kind of you to say that, but really. He wasn't himself, and Naor should take that into account before she goes around threatening to dismember people." He pushed himself into a crouching postion and studied the water in the pot for a moment before adding some wild vegetables, seasonings, and rabbit meat from a kill he had made earlier that day during one of their infrequent rest stops. "Sorry, I probably should have asked first... The two of you do eat meat, yes?" he asked, looking up at both of them. He was more than willing to make a separate stew for either of them if he needed to.
It would be foolish of them not to make an exception for this meal, that stew smells delicious. In fact, it makes me hungry enough to leave you alone with him for a minute so I can catch my own dinner. Naor said, laying a heavy emphasis on the word him. She was polite enough to only direct the comment at her Rider though, leaving the other three of the group out of the message.
She walked a short distance away and took to the air, circling once overhead before winging off to find herself a proper meal.
Asa waved at his partner as she circled the camp and watched her go, a slight smile on his face. "Don't mind her, my cooking has just made her hungry, so she's going to find herself some dinner. I guess now that we've run into the three of you, she's planning on taking a short break from running," he chortled, stirring the contents of the pot while adding another pinch of salt.

 Re: The Beast Within
Feroc glanced at Nate, a hint of unease on the wolf's usually calm gaze. No, I'm afraid Nate doesn't eat meat Feroc murmured, but Natori interrupted him. "No, the stew does smell good, and I'm grateful that you cooked it for us. I'll eat it," he proclaimed. I've already caused them enough trouble he thought to himself. It would be rude for him to decline a meal from one he had harmed. And it indeed did smell good.
Natori's eyes didn't leave the dragon until she was out of proximity of his peripherals. Not that he didn't trust her, but he knew that she was still angry, and he didn't know if she would really trust him enough to leave him alone with her Rider. No matter, even if he did turn into a Beast again, he had removed his wards. He would be restrained before he could do much...he hoped.
"Running from whom, if I may ask?" Natori asked Asa, a hint of curiosity in his tone. He noticed that Yssala was being a little quiet, but he didn't pay it much attention.

 Re: The Beast Within
Yssala inhaled the delicious scent of rabbit and herbs, her mouth watering. It had been a long time since she had any meat, let alone a cooked meal. She usually ate plants, roots, and berries but once in a while she would make an exception. "Yes, on occasion. If you have enough to spare that is," she added with a half-smile. She looked up into the canopy, then asked, "Would there also be enough for someone else?"
She clicked her tongue a couple times and watched with a smile as Pheo decended from the canopy above. He landed on a branch about ten feet above her, his golden eyes gazing at the others warily. He was always so protective, and with a wolf around Yssala couldn't help but wonder if he was wondering if either the man or the wolf would attack at any point in time. "They won't," she assured Pheo, smiling. When she brought her gaze back at eye-level, Yssala blushed slightly, then asked Asa, "You say you are running? Is someone after you?"

 Re: The Beast Within
Asa opened his mouth to say he still had some vegetables and stuff left in his pack to use, but Natori did seem sincere and he was anxious to get something in his stomach. "All right then, but if I haven't run all of you off by tomorrow, I'll cook an all-vegetable meal," he said smiling. He reached back into his saddle-bags and pulled out three bowls and spoons. He dished out portions of the stew, which had finished cooking, then looked up at the hawk in the tree.
The man grinned at the bird and fished around in the pot with the ladle, looking for a good sized piece of meat. "Here you go then," he called, handing the piece to Yssala to give him. "Feroc, if you're hungry I'm afraid you'll have to steal Natori's bowl, I only carry three in my bags," he apologized.
"And as for why we are running... I had a rather unpleasant encounter with a group of Imperial soldiers, which Naor had to rescue me from. We didn't manage to kill all of the soldiers though, so no doubt Galbatorix has learned of our presence here. So of course we took off as quickly as we could, and we've been running for about four days now. I'm still not sure if he did send anybody after us," he explained, sighing gustily and poking his stew with a moody spoon.
His vision faded out and he blinked as the image of a deer bounding across a clearing came into his mind. That was fast, he called to Naor, a slight smile on his face.
The sky blue dragoness growled in reply, even though he couldn't hear it, then dropped onto the deer, breaking it's spine. A quick snap of her jaws and it was done. She fed heartily on the meat, crunching bones and guts with much gusto. She finished within minutes, not even bothering to clean her scales as she leaped into the air to find another. She found the same herd a few miles away and swooped low over them to make them run. Naor growled ferociously when she saw a pack of wolves watching her from the trees, but they knew better than to mess with a hunting dragon.
She dropped from the sky once more and quickly killed another deer, this one a buck. He was young and full of life, with very little fat and plenty of meat. She ate just as heartily this time, but went more slowly, spitting out the bones of this carcass instead of swallowing them. She managed to eat half of the large kill, then left the rest for the wolves. With her belly much bigger than it had been, she took to the skies.
I am back, friend of my heart, she called, landing lightly in the clearing. She could smell still warm stew and hear the clatter of spoons striking bowls, apparently they were still eating. She walked over to Asa and laid down close beside him before turning her attention to her gore-splattered scales.

 Re: The Beast Within
Feroc chuckled, No, it's fine. I hunted before I came back here, so I'm pretty good on food Feroc murmured. Natori listened to Asa's story with growing curiosity. If soldiers came by here, they couldn't hope to deal with Asa, Naor, Natori, Feroc, Yssala's companion, and Yssala all at once. Natori accepted the stew, thanking Asa heartily.
As Natori made to eat some of it, Feroc snatched down, his jaws clamping around a piece of meat. Well, maybe a bite wouldn't hurt my stomach he said, eagerly chomping on the piece of meat from Natori's stew. Natori glared at his companion, muttering an obscenity or two. Natori was so absorbed in his stew that he barely noticed Naor return.@Astral and Saph: Do either of you have a charry or two that would be interested in a man with a beast inside of him? Enough to capture him, mayhaps?

 Re: The Beast Within
OOC: Well, is that what you want to happen? You want a character to capture him? Yssala's my only human, the rest are dragons and a phoenix. XD lol. And they're all good. But if you had a plan for this rp I would certianly like to know about it. IC: Yssala thanked Asa for both her stew and a piece of meat for Pheo. "He hasn't had anything decent in a few days, Pheo. I'm thankful you could spare him some food." She held the bowl in between her hands, inhaling the aroma. It smelled delicious. Yssala began to sip her stew as Asa explained that soldiers were after him and Naor. She had heard of Galbatorix and knew that, if anything, he would want these two dead. "If you need my help with anything whatsoever, I am more than happy to."
She noticed Naor swoop in, blood splattered over her bright blue scales. Naor must have finished eating her own meal. Then she turned to Feroc and Natori, smiling slightly at Feroc's steal. Natori seemed so normal, and good, why was this happening to him? Yssala wondered as she ate more of the stew, savoring the flavor.

 Re: The Beast Within
OOC: Hmm... Not really, the only charry I have that's close to evil is Blake, and he's only interested in Illuna and her twin. Naor couldn't help chuckling in amusement when the wolf, Feroc, stole a piece of meat from Natori. Asa is a fine cook, she said, gently butting her head against her Rider's shoulder. She blinked at them all a few times, then returned to quietly cleaning the blood from around the scales on her paws.
Asa snorted into his bowl as Natori cursed quietly. "My my, I'd never heard some of those," he chortled gleefully. He casually waved off Yssala's thanks, "You don't have to thank me. I was glad to do it. This is the finest company I've had in a few days," he said, smiling at her.

 Re: The Beast Within
OOC: Aw, really? Am I the only one with an unhealthy interest in evil charries? I'll implement one of my own in a little bit then. It will be the charry I told you about, Saph. @Astral: Well, I was going to have Natori be captured by a man interested in having the power inside of Natori for his own use. I'll say more when I get it all sorted. IC: Natori's eyes widened as he ate more of the stew. Although the piece that Feroc had taken wasn't very big, Natori regretted every single piece that he didn't get out of the stew. It almost made him want to eat meat again, and that was certainly saying something. "I know my help probably could turn out badly, but I'll still try to help you in any way I can," Natori said to Asa.

 Re: The Beast Within
OOC: Lol perhaps, but in my case I can't really rp with an evil charry very well. I suppose I could go and make one, seeing as I have all good charries it would make for an interesting case. And that sounds good IC: Yssala smiled back at Asa. "I suppose, considering all you had for company were some soldiers breathing down your neck," she replied with a chuckle, making a joke in the light of things." She sipped the remainder of her soup, holding her hand out towards the ground, and pulling water from within the earth. She took a cloth from her belt and scrubbed the excess stuff from the bowl, and dried it with a warm south breeze. Then Yssala took the bowl and handed it back to Asa.

 Re: The Beast Within
OOC: Excellent I can't wait to see what he can do. Asa took the bowl from Yssala, yawning expansively. "Sorry, all that good food and no sleep must be getting to me," he said, blinking owlishly. He polished off what was left in his bowl, then peered into the pot. "There's a little left if anybody else would like some," he said, setting his bowl to the side. He would wash it and the rest of the utensils before they broke camp in the morning.
Naor wrapped her tail around her Rider and dragged him over beside her, wrapping her body around him to keep him warm in the cool night air. She arced her neck so she could see everyone in the camp. Her sky blue eyes sparkled in the light of the campfire.
"Don't worry about it Natori, all anyone can ever hope to do in this life is their best, so we won't worry about what may or may not happen. In my book, what happened earlier is ancient history, okay?" Asa said in a friendly tone. He ignored the low, inaudible rumble from Naor that ever so slightly shook the ground under him. He doubted the others had felt it.
"So, Yssala. What's your story? Why are you out here in the middle of the wilderness?" he asked, changing the subject. He was genuinely curious about her answer, she was the only one here that he didn't really know anything about.
Naor shifted slightly when her Rider asked about Yssala. She was interested to hear this answer herself. There was a scent, multiple scents actually, around Yssala that she couldn't identify. Maybe now she would get some answers about them.

 Re: The Beast Within
Natori smiled slightly at Asa's reassurance before he began to wash out his bowl. "No thank you; I'm quite stuffed actually," Natori mused, patting his stomach in emphasis. Feroc lay sprawled on the ground, his stomach full as well from the recent meal. Natori turned his head to face Yssala, awaiting an answer to Asa's question. Feroc smiled to himself, for his companion was finally making comrades. With Aurora and this small group, Feroc felt that his Nate was finally opening up. Feroc's eyes drifted to a close as he prepared to fall asleep, but then he sniffed the air curiously. Another scent had just appeared, permeating the air with the stench of death. A faint whoosh was the only warning given before a red orb cracked on the ground, appearing from above. Feroc immediately bolted up, but a red mist emitted from the now shattered orb. Feroc felt suddenly very faint in the red mist, and he swayed to the side, before crashing against the ground.
Natori yelped when a red aura shrouded the air and he stood up, only to stumble on his feet. His vision was getting foggy; he had to get out of this aroma. He squinted, looking around him. A black silhouette stood perched on a tree, maroon eyes glinting in the moonlight. OOC: Time for the madness to begin. Feroc was knocked out from the scent because his sense of smell is greater than two-legs, and he inhaled the aroma. Our charries aren't affected that badly.

 Re: The Beast Within
OOC: Swe etness man! Chaos is always fun...muahahaha!IC: Yssala smiled and shook her head. "I am quite satisfied, thank you." Then she looked down at her hands, blushing again. She wasn't used to suddenly being subjected to questioning, especially by other people. She regained her composure, and replied, "I travel quite a bit. I don't really like staying in one place for very long. Being around people...is very disconcerining," she murmured, looking for the right word. "Being an outcast most of my life, I've come to befriend the wilderness and its creatures." Yssala smiled and added, "I come from a long line of mages, my grandmother Elixana has taught me everything I know of the elements. That's why I rarely speak," she explained, shrugging. "At least towards humans. Dragons I don't have a problem with," she replied with a grin towards Naor. "I was actually being chased not too long ago," Yssala whispered, her expression darkening. "Theives were after me. What they wanted, I am not for certian. All I know is I have given them the slip for the time being, and I intend on keeping it that way."
As Yssala spoke, a red haze emitted from a broken red orb that had shattered on the ground. It knocking out Feroc. Yssala coughed and stood up immediately, Pheo screeching in anger. A black shroud stood in the trees, glowing red eyes watching them hungrily. "Something's not right, we need to get everyone out of here," Yssala said to Asa and Naor, for Natori seemed to be slightly out of it. She coughed again, feeling the affects of the haze seeping into her body. "Quickly!" she exclaimed, as she drew her bow and arrow out.

 Re: The Beast Within
Asa listened intently to Yssala's story, his head leaning back against Naor as he listened. He had just chuckled and was about to comment about the fact that they were all running from something, when a red orb crashed into the middle of their camp. It spewed some sort of red gas, which knocked Feroc out almost immediately and sent Nate staggering around in a daze. Asa cursed and jumped to his feet, wide awake for the second time that night. I know you don't like them, but there's no other choice! he said to Naor, right before he grabbed Feroc in one arm, and Natori in the other. He tossed them onto the sky blue dragoness's back and jumped away from her, unsheathing his sword as he went.
"Sorry in advance about the scales Nate, but you don't look so good at the moment," he said in a tight, but oddly cheerful voice. This was turning out to be a very interesting night.
You're right, I don't like him, Naor growled, shrugging her shoulders so that her two passengers were more secure. She didn't take to the air though, she was not about to leave her Rider unprotected. She would protect these two until they didn't need it, but she would stay on the ground if she could.
Asa threw an exasperated look at Naor, then shook his head and flicked his gaze back to their attacker. "Yssala, I don't suppose this is one of the thieves you mentioned, is it? 'Cause I know it's not after me," he asked, although he wasn't entirely certain. This could very well be the attack he had been expecting from Galbatorix. He cautiously looked into the forest behind the thing with glowing red eyes. If it was, then it probably wasn't alone. "Who are you?" he demanded, glaring up at the creature. Shrouded in darkness as it was, he couldn't tell if it was human, elf, or something else.

 Re: The Beast Within
They were all within his peripherals now, and he glowered at them all, a hungry smile breaking out on his face. "It isn't any concern to you who I am, human," Oracion gave a dark grin. "I'm just after the man resting on your dragon. If you hand him over to me, I'll leave peacefully."
In case they tried to protect the man, Oracion continued, "He attacked you, did he not? There's no use protecting him. Unless put in restraint and taken for experimenting, he will serve as a weapon against everyone--friend or not--including himself." In case they didn't listen to his offer, he remained in the trees. He would strike when they proved to be hostile.
Natori lay helplessly on Naor's back, blinking back tears as the horrific vapor stung his eyes. His heightened senses (something he had always considered a gift) were now striking against him. He wanted to fight, but until the vapor cleared, he would be a liability.

 Re: The Beast Within
Yssala shook her head as she drew her bow at the strange being. From the tone of its voice it sounded male. "I couldn't see who it was it was too dark. I didn't stay long to find out." She glowered at the man, seeing the hunger glinting in his eyes. "There's some kind of an aura about him that I don't trust. We can't give Natori over to him, he'll do something horrible I know it!" She turned to Asa, narrowing her eyes, and shouting, "Go with Naor since she won't leave without you," she noted the dragoness's protective glance and knew this was to be the case. "I can fight him off, Naor won't be able to carry all four of us."
"It's a concern to me as for what you're intent on Natori is," she growled at the man. "So what, you want to use him as a weapon? Shouldn't you be trying to find a cure? Or in any case trying to find a way to use his powers for good? What use would he be to use as a weapon? No one would benefit; everyone would fight over him, needless blood would be shed."

 Re: The Beast Within
"Thank you for the offer, Yssala, but there's also the issue of Naor not being able to carry three of us, forget four. I'm not exactly a pixie in case you haven't noticed," he chuckled, gesturing at his height and bulk. He turned his gaze back to the creature in the trees. "Natori may have attacked us, but he had no control over his actions. You on the other hand? You throw a ball of who-knows-what into the middle of our camp, and sit there looking down on us, calm as can be. I'm actually more inclined to trust him," the Rider called in a mocking tone. He backed up a little so he was closer to Naor.
Naor? How are you doing? he asked in a worried voice.
Oh I'm fine. As soon as I smelled that mess I held my breath. You know how much larger my lungs are than you tiny creatures, she said, sending him a picture of her smiling at him. It's not as potent when I'm not breathing, but I would estimate that I have about five minutes or so before I have to breathe. Less if it turns into a fight.
What if I use magic to filter the air in front of you?
That might help, but you are no master when it comes to magic. I would bet that it would only slightly alleviate the effects, considering our powerful sense of smell.
Fine, I just had a better, and possibly more covert, idea anyway, he grumbled, stung by her lack of faith in his skills. Yssala, you say you are skilled with the elements? Could you maybe create a wind or a breeze to carry this smoke away? Without him noticing would be great, he asked silently, giving a mental jerk of his chin to indicate the enemy.

 Re: The Beast Within
OOC: I see someone finally made an evil charry. ^ ^
IC: To the woman, Oracion replied, "No, he wouldn't serve as a weapon under my command. In fact, I will make it so that he can live on without having to worry about that gift of his. I'll take it for myself and control that Demon," Oracion grinned sinisterly.
Oracion glowered at the man with the dragon. "Are you now? And if he attacks you again? What if, the next time, someone actually loses his or her life?" Oracion flicked his hand to the side. "Whatever, I'm done with trying to persuade you lot. I'll simply take him forcefully then," Oracion growled, and he jumped from the branch, keeping about forty feet of distance between himself and the group. He withdrew a small dagger and made an incision on his arm. Blood dripped from the shallow cut onto the ground, and Oracion infused his own energy with the ground, muttering a spell.
The blood morphed until three sludge-like beings were in front of him. The beings had no arms or legs, but looked to be pieces of black goop. They were around four or five feet tall. Gas bubbles rose on their slimy skin and popped periodically. Suddenly, the globs slithered towards the woman with a very quick speed. One of them opened its mouth and a ball of sludge shot out towards the woman. The others drew ever so closer.
Oracion pointed his index finger towards the human with the dragon and a purple dot formed on the tip of his finger. Then it shot towards the man in a small, concentrated beam with alarming precision and speed. The tip of the beam was extremely sharp.

 Re: The Beast Within
OOC: Hmm yes...I got a good idea for one of my charries Syl but unfortunately he's not accepted fully. Once he is he shall wreak havoc! IC: Yssala grumbled under her breath, afraid that someone was going to get hurt if they hadn't taken action. She gave Asa a nod so brief no one would have suspected. Then she held a palm out away from her bow towards her side, feeling the air around her swirl slightly from the east as that was where a slight breeze was blowing from anyway. With the extra wind Yssala managed to blow the gas away from Naor and the rest of the group.
When the man explained maliciously how Natori was going to be used for his own personal gain, Yssala felt anger rising within herself. When, however, she made a move to attack, three blob-like creatures began to advance towards her. She was completely surrounded. Thinking quickly, Yssala used her hands to extract water from the ground below her and formed spears in her hands as they became ice. She struck at the nearest blob, hoping to inflict some kind of damage. When the man struck with a strange sharp object towards Asa, Yssala was too enclosed to try and keep it away. All she could do was keep the blobs after her and hope he made it out alive.

 Re: The Beast Within
Asa felt a slight breeze from the east kick up just a little bit, enough to carry the smoke away. Through his bond he felt Naor tilt her head toward it and take a deep, refreshing breath before shifting slightly to carry Natori and Feroc closer to the clean air. "If he attacks again, then we will stop him. Again." Asa said flatly, his face emotionless. Inside he was seething with fury at this man's casual talk of turning Natori into a weapon. Nothing made him madder than someone being forced to do something horrible against his will. The red haze of bloodlust started to coat his vision, a savage hatred rising in his chest.
The Rider snarled, not the slightest bit intimidated by the bolt of energy coming his way. He flicked his blade up to intercept, then turned it so the energy struck the flat of the blade. He angled the blade so the stream of energy was deflected towards a dead tree. A grunt escaped his lips at the force behind the power, but it was quickly silenced by a feral smile.
Asa leaped forward, closing the distance with his enemy in no time flat. He swung his bright blue sword heavily at the man's neck, but twisted it in a feint at the last second and went for the muscle at the side of the knee instead. Naor, see if your flames can kill those creatures, he said to his bond, watching Yssala summon spears of ice to battle the sludge-like creatures.
Naor snorted in amusement, she was already taking careful aim for exactly that purpose. Yssala, up! she roared, firing a ball of sky blue fire five feet in diameter at the creatures.

 Re: The Beast Within
OOC: That's good. @Saph: You know, I thought of those blobs from a game I play, and their weakness in that game is fire. I commend you for thinking of blowing fire on them. IC: Oracion furrowed his brows, slightly confused, as the red haze disappeared sooner than it should have. Was there something wrong with the product? No, he had always perfected his weapons in experiments. The others must have done something to blow the aroma away. Oracion grinned savagely as the Dragon Rider grew more angry. While people were more powerful and aggressive in anger, they were also more prone to make mistakes or skip over something. He was fast for a Rider (probably because of his dragon), and he swung his sword. He had blocked Oracion's previous blow with his sword, so it probably wasn't an ordinary blade. Still, Oracion had to confirm it. He followed the Rider's movements, lifting his leg up as the Rider swung for his knee, and the blade cut through Oracion's robe like it was butter. His leg, however, blocked the brunt of the blow. Oracion swiftly drew back; his knee was probably bruised from the blade, so it was definitely not an ordinary blade. It was probably smithed with Brightsteel.
Oracion's form vanished in a brief and bright display of magic and he reappeared behind the Rider. Natori sniffed the air cautiously, and took several deep breaths when he realized that it was odor-free. He quickly rolled off Naor, catching himself on the ground and dashing towards the madman. His right hand glowed with yellow energy and he slammed his fist into the man's back.Although it had felt like a normal blow because of his modified body, the punch still propelled Oracion towards the Rider. Oracion dodged around the Rider and rolled on the ground, righting himself immediately. He was once again facing the Rider, but now the man with the monster inside of him was there too. Oracion grimaced; he was clearly outnumbered, and his summonings couldn't hold off the human woman and dragon for long. Then, he had an idea. He didn't want to use too many of his weapons in one battle, but he couldn't pass this up.
Red droplets fell from his sleeve into his hand and he threw them to the ground. He immediately placed his palm into the ground around the Rider and man, infusing energy into it. The energy cackled like electricity as it circled the red droplets, and in the blink of an eye they all extended into extremely sharp needles, piercing whatever got in their way.
One of the blobs was distracted momentarily as a spear of ice protruded from its midsection. The others, however, shot spears of their own, composed of acids that would burn if they came into contact with skin.

 Re: The Beast Within
Yssala immediately looked up as a blue fire ball rained down from above, intent on slamming into the creatures. Thinking quickly, Yssala used the wind around her to form a dome so that the fire went around her and towards the surrounding blobs. It had managed to wipe out five of the ones around her, but more were coming. She watched, carefully, as Natori became more of a beast now and he himself would be dangerous to handle should he decide to turn on their side.
Though, as she sent through a shard of ice at one of the blobs, they sent out shards of their own. She managed to dodge most of them by backflipping and ducking around them. With the powers of a mage, Yssala had unbelievable reflexes. Even with the reflexes, she couldn't dodge them all. Two of the shards managed to just barely scrape her thigh and the other shot into her chest above her heart but into her collarbone. Yssala was flung back, her skin bubbling and dissolving from the acidic content of the spears. She managed to pull out the spear but managed to burn her hands as well. Standing up, Yssala mangaged to draw her bow and arrow into her hands shakily.

 Re: The Beast Within
Asa managed to clip the man on the side of the knee, not a life-threatening injury, but he wouldn't be able to stand on it fully. Or so the Rider thought. Before he had time to close with him again, the man was standing right behind him. If Natori had punched him and sent him flying, Asa would have probably been dead right then. "Thanks!" he called, turning his attention back to the enemy. He had jut enough time to take in the man scattering something on the ground and then infusing it with energy before he had to dodge.
Needle-sharp spears, similar to those the blobs were using against Yssala, erupted from the ground. Asa swore and jumped straight up in the air, grabbing a tree branch overhead with his free hand. He eyed the ground below, swinging back-and-forth from the tree branch. When he had enough momentum he let go of the branch, landing awkwardly a few feet away from the spears. "You're gonna have to do better than that!" he yelled, showing the man his glowing palm. "Stenr riesa!" he commanded, and a boulder launched itself at the man's chest.
Naor roared in fury when her fire failed to take out all of the blobs. She jumped to Yssala's side, dodging a few of the acid spears and loosed a stream of fire into their midst. Asa, be careful! she roared, seeing him narrowly avoid the needles out of the corner of her eye.

 Re: The Beast Within
"No problem!" Natori yelled back, and his eyes widened when the man threw multiple, small red balls onto the ground. Suddenly, the sprouted into thin spears with extremely sharp tips. Not near a branch or other obstacle within normal handreach, an arm and hand composed of energy extended from his own hand, gripping a tree about twenty feet away. He was pulled towards the tree and he let go of it when he went through a full swing, sending him flying towards the Shade. His extended hand slammed against the Shade, throwing the man back. However, Oracion got up from the blow, wiping it off as if it were nothing. Natori growled and darted towards Oracion at an inhuman speed. A cloak of energy began to cover his body, blue in color. The cloak was just a thicker covering of his own body, except his ears were sharp and pointy like a cat's, and his hands had talons instead of fingernails.
Oracion lifted his eyebrows at the man with the monster inside him. Natori was in a different state of mind then when he had transformed earlier, and this wasn't quite the same transformation either. It was more controlled, but weaker. His current transformation probably wasn't being influenced by the Beast. "Oh, are we getting serious then?" Oracion questioned, and spheres of various colors began to surround his body. "Spirits of Immolation, burn this area to a smoldering crisp!" Oracion commanded, and two of the red spirits floated in-between Oracion and the others. They suddenly began to swell, before they exploded. A roaring mass of flame began to spread, squandering any scent and restricting free movements as well as shattering the boulder sent at Oracion. The flames burned through the blobs Oracion had summoned, but he currently didn't care. The Shade moved quickly; a branch of a tree was on fire, and the grass under it was as well. Oracion jumped through it, twisting as he did so.
Making out the man with the Beast inside of him, Oracion immediately shot his palm forward and a purple dart of energy (his Flare) shot out and wrapped around Natori. Oracion snapped his hand back, and Natori, still bound-up, came flying towards him. Oracion caught the man on his shoulder and waved to Asa, whom he could he see clearly. Then he disappeared in a brief flash of light.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Feroc growled, shaking his head and immediately bolting up. When he got upright, the forest around him was in flames. His eyes widened and he started to search for Natori, but he was no where in sight. The smoke of the flames joggled the scents in the area up, making it difficult to distinguish Natori's specifically. Feroc howled, and began to search for the others.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Oracion reappeared nearly a mile away in a small clearing in the forest. He set Natori down, cutting off the Flare from his hand but still leaving Natori bound. He grabbed what looked like an injector needle from a pocket on his tunic, and grabbed a flask from a pouch on his hip. He was panting heavily and sweating profusely. He immediately drank from the flask, and felt better. "Damn that illness," he muttered.
With the injection needle, he walked over to the struggling Natori and swiftly injected it in his arm. "I suggest you calm down while that travels through your bloodstream, or it might wander somewhere it isn't supposed to," Oracion warned.
Natori released several curses to the Shade. "...murderer! Monster! Demon!"
"Don't struggle, I thought I said," Oracion reiterated irritatedly. When Natori refused to listen, he delivered a quick chop to the back of Natori's neck, knocking him unconscious.

 Re: The Beast Within
Yssala managed to get a good grip on her bow despite being seriously burned. Her shoulder bled heavily, but she ignored it. Thankfully, Naor jumped to her aid and blew the rest of the spears away with her fire. "Thank you Naor," she said quickly, facing away to prepare herself. As she took aim Yssala cursed as Natori got in the way. She couldn't do anything, and at that point a forest fire erupted suddenly, shielding Oracion as he took Natori away from them. Yssala coughed out the offending smoke and tried to look through the flames to see if she could spot them.
"Where did they go?" she wheezed, stringing her bow around her back as she leaned up against a cindered tree to try and relax for a moment. "Did anyone see them? I may have certian powers, but my eyesight isn't one of them."

 Re: The Beast Within
Naor threw a wing up in front of her face as Oracion summoned spheres that exploded and sent a burst of fire everywhere, catching the forest on fire. No! she growled, lunging forward and seizing the back of Asa's shirt in her talons. She slammed him against the ground and glared up at Oracion as he turned and disappeared into the haze of smoke and flames. Asa was still struggling beneath her foot, glaring at where the man had gone.
"Let me up Naor! He kidnapped Natori! Who knows what he's doing to him now?" he growled, trying to sit up and throw her foot off of him.
Naor ignored him and turned to Yssala. The girl was struggling to breath in the thick smoke. Yssala, try and put out the flames, if you can. Asa, I'm going to let you up, but if you try to charge after him again, I will sit on you, she said to her companions. She closed off the comment to her Rider so that only he could hear it. Get my saddle on my back, we'll go after them as soon as Yssala puts the fiire out, or she decides it's too strong, she continued, watching Feroc. He was pacing anxiously, trying to get a scent. They went that way, she added in answer to Yssala's question. She pointed in the right direction with her tail, then walked over to stand next to Feroc. She didn't say anything, she just stood there.
She stepped back and let Asa up, watching him closely as he ran over to the saddle. He threw it over her shoulders and started doing up the buckles. She shrugged her shoulders just before he finished, making sure it was fitting snugly against her back, then nodded and allowed him to finish.
When he was done saddling Naor, Asa rushed over to the biggest patch of fire he could find, and held both hands, palm-out towards it. "Adurna!" he yelled, watching as water formed a wall before him. He was pulling it from the air, but mostly from the ground to conserve his energy. When he was ready, he released it and watched it collapse, smothering a huge swath of flames. He moved on to another, ignoring the drop in his strength. He figured he could do that about three more times before he would be forced to give up in order to save his strength for Oracion.
He called out in the Ancient Language again and watched as the water formed, then he released it once more. A few trees and many bushes suddenly went dark as the cascading water put out the jewel-bright flames on their trunks and branches.

 Re: The Beast Within
Feroc sighed in relief when he found Asa, Naor, and Yssala. However, Natori wasn't anywhere in sight still. No! Feroc growled. The strong fumes and the massive amount of smoke prevented him from being able to breathe, and he immediately padded into the depths of the forest. He stalked around the clearing, dodging through the smoke thet drifted out into the forest. He reemerged from the underbush in an area Asa had cleared out through the use of magic. I know that he attacked you, but please aid me in bringing him back. I will consider myself forever indebted to you, and I alone cannot rescue my companion Feroc pleaded. Without Natori, he felt alone. Feroc was Natori's Guardian, although his companion didn't know it.
Oracion opened his mind to the life around him, withdrawing the largest amount of energy he could from the nearby plants and animals. Plants withered black, and several consciousnesses disappeared as several rodents, some insects, and a bird or two collapsed, dead. He then withdrew energy from a ring on his forefinger, before hauling Natori on his shoulders with ease and disappearing in another brief flash of light. He reappeared on the very edge of Gil'ead, just outside it, next to a massive wall that circled around the large city. It was two or three miles away from where he had Natori's friends were.
Oracion groped the bark of a nearby massive oak tree, infusing his own energy with the bark. Suddenly, the bark on one side of the tree disintegrated, revealing a hollow in the ground, large enough for a fully grown dragon to fit in. Oracion jumped in with Natori still around his shoulders, and he extended the bark of the tree, covering up his little hideout. By extending it through Alchemy, the bark would be thinner in that particular area, but it would look completely normal on the outside and inside.
A tunnel lay in the hollow, and Oracion trekked through it. The trail continued for a couple hundred yards or so before he emerged into a large cavern. Various fluids were contained in marked jugs, and lab tables covered one side of the cavern. Chairs with straps on them (meant to hold an experiment in place) were seated against the walls. Locked cages held a diverse amount of creatures in. They were all crossbreeds, mixed of some sort of blood to create a combined being, a hybrid of sorts. Oracion threw the still-unconscious Natori onto one of the lab chairs and strapped the man in. "Time to work," he muttered.

 Re: The Beast Within
Yssala nodded at Naor's suggestion to put out the flames. Though she still struggled to breath, Yssala managed to concentrate within herself to find the heart of the flames. Once she had managed to grasp that, it was easier to bring down the size of the flames. Asa assisted her by calling water to douse the branches on the trees surrounding them.
By the time they finished putting out the fire, Yssala was out of breath and out of strength. "I'm going with you guys," she stated firmly. "I'll be able to keep up." She turned to Feroc. "I will help most certianly. Whatever this guy has in store for Natori is nothing good, and no one deserves to be treated as such."
She waited for the moment they would head out after Natori.

 Re: The Beast Within
"Alright then, that should be the last of it," Asa panted, releasing the water he had been manipulating. The wall of water collapsed, sending a wave over his ankles as the water dissipated. He wrinkled his nose in distaste and walked over to Naor's saddle. He pulled a fresh pair of boots and wool socks out of her saddlebag, then replaced his sodden one's. He was still breathing rather heavily from the use of so much magic. The air, which now smelled like wet, charred wood, wasn't helping ease his burning lungs either.
"Everyone," he started, then paused as a coughing fit overtook him, "-everyone, get on Naor. We'll move away from here, closer to the city I think. Close to an outpost of Galbatorix's soldiers is the last place that man would think to look for a Rider, dragon, and their accomplices. Once there... I don't know. We'll think of something." He was talking just to keep everyone's moods stable. Right now they were cold and wet, tired, and their friend had just been kidnapped. Morale was very low, and if they weren't thinking clearly, Natori was in worse trouble than he already was.
The Rider blinked when he realized Naor must be influencing his thoughts. He cocked an eyebrow at her, but didn't say anything. Under her guidance, he had been through a rollercoaster of emotions, and his mind was tired. He didn't feel like growling at her for trying to help. She blinked coyly at him and shuffled her wings when this thought reached her.
The sky blue dragoness looked away from her Rider and hummed at Feroc. Don't worry, pack brother, we will help you and Natori both. You are our friends now, and we are nothing if not devoted to helping our friends, she assured him.

 Re: The Beast Within
Thank you Feroc whispered gravely to Yssala, Asa, and Naor. I'll follow you three from the ground. I'm not exactly fit for riding saddleback, and I can potentially smell the scent easier from down here Feroc said. Asa explained his plan, and Feroc nodded in confirmation. This man took Natori out of the forests. That much I can tell. With the forest cleared of fire, I can possibly distinguish Natori's scent from outside of these trees. Once we near the city, I think Natori's scent will be easier to sniff out.
Oracion worked fluently. He injected another needle into Natori's upper arm, and dabbed at the surrounding area with a syringe. He had just injected Natori with an odd poison, quite curiously so. The poison would search for any inner consciousness and weaken it. Once weakened, Oracion could begin the process of examining and, if fortunate enough, extracting the beast. Oracion then felt through Natori's body with his very mind, following the poison as it worked its way towards the beast. Oracion's vision changed as he began to see the microscopic surroundings of the poison as it worked its way through Natori's bloodstream. Suddenly, the poison veered off track - or what Oracion thought would be the track - and went towards Natori's chest.
He couldn't see the poison's surroundings now. Everything was dark, Oracion suddenly felt very cold - physically - as he passed through an area with no light. The tension was building, and Oracion knew that he was nearing his target. He grinned maniacally to himself; he was finally going to see this beast!
Then Oracion heard a roar, and felt an extremely sharp presence stab his mind viciously. He immediately threw up mental barriers, but they all shattered under the ferocity of the mental attack. Oracion felt like his own body was being stabbed as the unknown consciousness stabbed at his own mercilessly. Mustering all the power he could, he slammed the consciousness out of his mind, and he woke in his laboratory. He was sweating profusely, and his breaths were quick and abrupt. Oracion then grimaced; he had a lot of work to do.

 Re: The Beast Within
Yssala recollected herself before holding out a hand, calling upon a southern wind. It wouldn’t call on more energy than she would need. Everyone was wet and irritable at this point, warming them up would better things. She helped warm the wind with her fire element and within a few minutes, everyone was dry and more comfortable.
“There, that should help us think,” she said with a wink at Asa. “After all, we need our wits about us if we’re going after this guy. I agree, we should head to that outpost, and scout it out. Maybe we’ll find some clues. With Feroc and Naor to sniff him out, we might be able to find Natori and help him. I bet you will be able to sniff him out once we get close,” she added to encourage Feroc. She hopped onto Naor, never has she ridden a dragon before. It would definitely be an experience worthwhile.

 Re: The Beast Within
Asa nodded graciously at Yssala as a warm wind stirred around them, drying them within the span of a few minutes. It was unseasonably warm for this part of the country, so he had no doubts the mage was behind it. The Rider hopped up in the saddle in front of Yssala, then looked back over his shoulder at her. "You should probably put your legs in those straps there and buckle them down. People who have never been on a dragon before tend to freak out and fall, especially when she goes to turn or some other manuever," he said, pointing at the straps he had mentioned. He was confident enough on Naor's back that he didn't need to be buckled in.
Hold on tight, Naor warned, her sky blue wing membranes lifting into the air. She held the pose for a moment, then leaped straight up. At the pinnacle of her jump, she swept downward with her wings, carrying them up into the air. With a few more downstrokes, they leveled off about a hundred feet above the treeline. I will fly straight on to Gil'ead, unless you smell something below Feroc. In that case, just contact me and I will circle back, she said to the wolf below.
She felt Asa's legs tense, then release as she turned and oriented herself with Gil'ead. What about patrols below? With the war in the south, there are sure to be more of them this close to a city, Naor said to Asa.
Hmmm... You're right. I don't think they'll be able to see you though, at least for the moment. Your scales are bright colored, but if you adjust your speed, they may just think you're a moonlit cloud, her Rider replied.
Sounds good to me, she said back, slowing her wingbeats slightly so that she was merely drifting forward. In the back of her mind she was thinking how lucky they were that the other, real clouds around them were moving in the same direction they were.

 Re: The Beast Within
Feroc sniffed the earth, following Naor from below. As they neared Gil'ead, Natori could pick up on something faint and familiar. Coming ever so closer to the city only increased the potentness of the scent, and Feroc then began to recognize the foul smell. It's him! He was here! Feroc mentally contacted Naor, sending her a mental image of where he currently was. Feroc sniffed around him, but the scent grew faint once more. Wherever Oracion had gone, this was the last place he had been.
Two purple entities of energy hovered on either side of Oracion. The energy around them crackled from their power. Oracion raised his hands over his head, murmuring, "Oh, Spirits of Support, please lend me your power to broaden the defensive structure of my mind and help weaken this foe." As he finished, a purple thread of energy swirled through the spirits, connecting them all with Oracion. Oracion felt the power of his mind grow immensely, and he calmly retracked his steps through young Natori's mind. The indefinite black darkness that lie within gave even Oracion a sense of foreboding. The feeling felt foreign to him, yet he couldn't help but acknowledge its presence. Taking a deep breath, he forced himself into the darkness. Almost immediately, he felt an intense, ancient, and aggressive consciousness attack his own. Even with the support of the Spirits and his own formidable mindpower, the mental wall protecting his mind shook from a single attack.
Wasting no time in retaliating, Oracion stabbed a vicious mental probe into the Beast's mind. Oracion felt slight satisfaction when the Beast had trouble with Oracion's own attack. It then began a game of tug-and-war as both sides struggled to gain control over the other. Finally, the support of the Spirits began to dim, Oracion quickly retreated into his own mind. When he was safe, he fell onto his knees, panting. The summoning of the spirits and the intense mental battle had taken a lot out of him.

 Re: The Beast Within
Yssala grinned and took Asa's advice, not expecting to feel comfortable with flying on a dragon. However, Yssala had complete faith in Naor, and that was enough to brace herself. She had just managed to grab ahold of Naor's neck as she ascended from the ground into the sky like a bolt of lightning. Yssala took a quick gasp of air, startled at how fast Naor had moved, but once they were above ground, Yssala opened her eyes and stared around. Never had she marvelled at such beauty despite having just witnessesd horrific events. She smiled to herself, thankful she could appreciate the ride and not be a girly-girl who would have reacted as though she ruined a new pair of boots.
"This is wonderful!" Yssala shouted over the wind. "You're a magnificent flyer Naor!" Out of the corner of her eye, Yssala saw Pheo as he flew about twenty feet away from them as he followed. She was thankful that her animal companion could fly.
Everyone went silent for a moment, wondering what had happened. She turned to look at Asa, and then at Naor, noting they could have been having a telepathic talk at the moment. "Mind telling me what's going on?" she wondered, not cross just curious.

 Re: The Beast Within
Naor drifted lazily through the air, her wings barely moving. Her lips peeled back in a draconic smile and she sent Yssala a warm thought at the woman's praise for her flying. She was tempted to draw her into her mind and show her what fly was really like, but rejected the thought almost immediately. That was something she would only ever do for Asa, her heart-soul-partner.
Asa reached down and gave Yssala's hand a friendly squeeze to show his appreciation for her praise of Naor. Nothing made the Rider prouder than to have people wonder at the Sky Dragoness's majesty and beauty. He knew how lucky he was that she had chosen him of all people. He was just about to tell Naor this when he felt Feroc contact her from below. The exchange was short, but the mental image was vivid enough that Naor could find it with ease.
We'll be there soon, Naor said. Feroc was behind them a few miles and off to the left. Naor turned sharply and started arrowing in the other direction. She didn't bother going slowly now. No soldier in his right mind would think they were a cloud now, they were going the wrong direction. Just as she thought this, a beam of moonlight broke through the cloud cover and lit up her sparkling hide. She grunted and rolled to one side to get out of the spotlight, then righted herself and continued on to Feroc. Be ready to fight dear one, she said to Asa when they were close.
I'm always ready to fight when you're in danger, Asa said gently, stroking the side of her neck. He smiled when she hummed in response, then turned to look over his shoulder when Yssala asked a question. "Feroc found a trail, we're going to meet him now," he yelled over the wind, pointing in the direction they were going. The words had barely left his lips before Naor settled into a shallow dive, heading towards a group of trees through which Asa could sense Feroc's mind.
He faced forward with a grunt, then loosened his sword in it's sheath. "Be ready for anything," he said aloud, turning his head slightly so the words would reach Yssala.

 Re: The Beast Within
Feroc glanced around, subconsciously registering Naor's landing. It then occurred to the Guardian-Wolf that someone must have seen the sky-blue dragoness sometime through her traveling. The disguise of the sky as a cloud or small bird was only temporary, and keen eyes could have seen the "cloud's" change in direction and the flapping of wings. The fact that soldiers might be searching for them had put Feroc on edge. A fight could possibly alert Oracion (wherever he was) that there were people nearby, thus losing the advantage of surprise. Wait, hadn't Asa said that he and Naor had already encountered an empire patrol anyway? If that is the case, then it wouldn't be a big setback if she was seen here. Still, it was something that he would wish to avoid.
Glancing up at the trio, Feroc said, I smell their scents somewhere in this area. Yet it just disappears if I venture to far out of this circle, Feroc indicated the distance he was referring to by pointing with his snout. Feroc glanced to the sky; could they be above? No, Naor would have seen them otherwise on her descent. Feroc dipped his head and sniffed the ground. It seemed like the only other solution, if they were even in this area to begin with. However, Feroc's nose had yet to lie to him, so he trusted his smell. I think they might be underground, he voiced his concerns.

 Re: The Beast Within
Yssala smiled at Asa in turn at how he squeezed her hand. There was obvious pride there for his dragon, as Naor nearly purred at Yssala's praise. It was only the truth, and Yssala enjoyed every minute of it. Though Asa informed her that Feroc had sniffed out a trail, and they were going to meet him soon. She braced herself, alert and wary at the same time, as she felt her dagger's sheath in reassurance. Yssala looked below, noting the lights glowing faintly as they followed. It had been the faeries. Again she felt grateful for her friends to help her out and her new friends.
Suddenly, Feroc informed them Natori could have been sentenced underground. She sat back and waited for what was going to happen next.

 Re: The Beast Within
Naor landed in a clearing close to Feroc, then walked through the trees to stand beside her friend. She put her nose close to the ground where the wolf had indicated, wrinkling her nose in distaste. He's right, I can sort of smell Natori here. And there's something else, something unhealthy and evil. This could definitely be the spot, she said to Asa, disgust still plain in her voice.
The Rider nodded at the light blue dragoness, then hopped down from her shoulders. "Naor agrees, but there's another scent that makes her uneasy. Can you smell it as well Feroc?" he said, turning back to Naor, holding his arms out to Yssala. "Jump and I'll catch you. Your knees might be a little wobbly after flying, I know mine were the first few times," he said in explanation.
His clear grey eyes peered around them in the darkness; he was determined not to be caught off guard like they had been earlier.

 Re: The Beast Within
Asa's question sent Feroc sniffing once more, this time attempting to distinguish the scents he smelled. A powerful, putrid scent assaulted Feroc's nose, and he crinkled it in distaste. Lifting his head from the ground and narrowing his eyes at the scent, he said, Yeah, I can smell it. It's gotta be that bastard. If the both of them are underground, then how would we get under? he asked. He doubted that even together, the four of them had enough energy to dig a tunnel to wherever Natori and Oracion were underground. Plus, the instability of the earth could cause any tunnel they created to have a cave-in. Hopefully, there was some sort of tunnel around here ...
Oracion felt several presences impose on the wards he had set up above. The wards weren't anything special; they'd just let him know if someone neared the entrance to his hideout. Still, though: he wasn't in much of a condition to fight. He had to buy time somehow ... With an idea in mind, he pulled a dagger free from one of its cases. It was a dirty trick, he knew, but it was necessary.

 Re: The Beast Within
Yssala held on as Naor made her landing, almost feeling sad that the ride was over. But there were more important things to deal with at the moment and she couldn't waste anytime getting back to business. She turned to Asa, grinning. Yssala could have informed him that she often asks for the wind's assistance from jumping so far down but she didn't want to hurt his feelings. Instead, she did as he offered, and slid off of Naor and into his arms. Blushing, she stood on the ground, feeling slightly wobbly but it went away as soon as it arrived. Yssala turned to Naor quickly so as Asa didn't have to see her embarressed expression and said kindly, "Thank you for allowing me to ride on you Sky Dragoness." Once her blush diminished, Yssala turned back to Asa with a big smile. "And thank you, as well, for helping me. You were right, flying on a dragon definately makes your knees knock together a little."
Yssala looked at Feroc, sympathetic as he tried to figure out how to get underground. "There must be some kind of magic entrance or some type of lever to reveal it. I highly doubt he dug his way to the bottom," she joked half-heartedly.

 Re: The Beast Within
Asa caught Yssala as she fell, hastily setting her on the ground. When she turned to thank Naor, he walked over to Feroc and squatted on the ground beside him. The Rider crab-walked across the ground, stopping occasionally to stare closely at something on the ground. "He was definitely here, but... All the signs are faint, I can't tell where they end or originate," he said aloud, pursing his lips as he stared at the ground. He hadn't really expected his human eyes to come up with anything a wolf or dragon's nose couldn't smell up first.
You are very welcome Yssala. Perhaps I will take you up again sometime when you can truly enjoy it, Naor said kindly, huffing a bit of smoke in the woman's face. She blinked at her a few times, then turned her head and joined in on Asa and Feroc's conversation. Perhaps we don't need to find the front door, which would obviously be booby-trapped. Asa, Yssala, do either of you think you could sense a tunnel beneath us with your minds? If we could find one, we could dig down to it and follow it, she said, looking straight at Asa.
The Rider frowned up at Naor, his right foot slipping out from under him so he was sitting instead of crouching. "I probably could," he said slowly, thinking it through, "but I think Yssala should do it. She can control all of the elements, correct?" Here he stopped and looked at Yssala for confirmation. "Well all she would have to do is find the tunnel, then we could follow it out away from here, so we'd be as far as possible from the front entrance, then you, Naor, could dig down to it. Once the hole is dug, I'll go down first and make sure there aren't any traps," he continued, his eyes unfocusing as he planned it all out in his head.
Naor growled ferociously as he reached a silent conclusion. No! she said fiercely, scowling at him.
Aw come on Naor! I'll have Feroc and Yssala with me, and Natori when we find him. I'll be fine! You, on the other hand, are too big to fit in most of these tunnels we'll be following, or so we assume. They would most likely be built to fit men, not dragons. Even if they were, there most likely wouldn't be enough room for you to fight. I won't risk you coming with us and then being killed because you couldn't defend yourself adequately, he said just as fiercely, staring her straight in the eye, his jaw muscles tight. He kept her gaze for a few minutes, then his eyes softened. Can you imagine what that would do to me? he asked quietly, the horror and loneliness of the imagined situation echoing through his head before he could shut it down. He didn't want to guilt her into this, she had to choose it, otherwise she would follow them anyway.
The sky blue dragoness continued to growl for several moments, sticking her head directly in her Rider's face. The menacing sound took on a pitiful note when she heard the sounds he was trying to keep from her. He flinched and looked away when he realized she had heard them anyway. Very well, I will wait for you above the surface, but if you are killed, I will follow you into the Void, find you in your afterlife, and shake you like a woodrat for making me go through what you would not, she vowed, tilting her head so that she was looking at him with one eye.
Asa sighed, relieved that she had come around. "Okay then, here's the plan. Yssala, if you can, find us a tunnel, then lead us a bit away from here. Naor, you will dig down to the tunnel for us and remain aboveground while the rest of us go look for Natori. I'll contact you when we find him, because we'll most likely need you to fly us away as quickly as possible. Feroc, once we're inside, we'll need you to find Natori," he said quickly, springing to his feet. He looked at the other two and asked, "Is that okay by the two of you?"
OOC: Oh wow.... My fingers took over... Is this alright by you FE, or do I need to edit?

 Re: The Beast Within
OOC: No, that's perfect actually.
IC:
Feroc blinked in surprise as Naor's idea astounded him, and have him a fair amount of hope. Yssala and Asa could easily find the cave underground with their mind! And then they would be one step closer to finding Natori. Be careful where you dig. If the hole is uneven enough, it could collapse, Feroc said to Naor. He couldn't believe that Asa, Naor, and Yssala were taking such a risk by accompanying him. Feroc would consider himself - regardless of any modest words said by the others - indebted to the three of them.
Let me enter the cave first, if we find one, Feroc murmured to Asa. That way, if we miss a trap, I'll be the one to take the brunt of it. After all, we're rescuing my bloody companion anyways, Feroc added with a wolfish smirk.
OOC: Sorry for the short post. I'm not really in thinking mode right now. :/

 Re: The Beast Within
OOC: Tis okay FE I get in those moods sometimes >.>
IC:
Yssala laughed and agreed with Naor, she would definately enjoy the company with a relaxing flight. Then, crossing her arms, she listened as Naor and Asa brainstormed about how to find the tunnel. When Asa suggested Yssala could sense the tunnel with her control of the elements, she frowned in concentration. "I've only learned from my grandmother Elixana how to speak to the elements only over a year; the winds, the flames, the ground and trees, the waters. I've not had much practice with them, mostly for combat uses." She stated slowly, "I could give it a try." For a moment, Asa and Naor had a scuffle but they managed to work it out. "It's alright with me. I'll set out looking."
Yssala walked over to the place that Feroc had sniffed out and placed her hands on the ground, allowing the rocks and dirt whisper in her mind. There was so much life around this particular spot, except for where the tunnel began. There was so much dark energy it decayed the very earth. It made her sick. Yssala pressed on, following how deep this went. She had to walk around, feeling the earth through her feet so she could feel connected still. The tunnel before was way too small for any of them, maybe 2-3 feet tall at the most and she couldn't see much to start out with. It was about 30 paces from where they started, and then that's when she could see it. It wasn't far, in fact it was only about ten feet deep before there was a pocket. She could feel it, the space seperating the earth's natural compact! Then it led to a tunnel, somewhat narrow but spaced out.
"I think...I think I can see it," she grunted after using so much concentration to speak with the rocks. "There's a small cave ten feet below, with a narrow tunnel leading away. It's about six feet tall. I can't see much after that though." Yssala sat on a log nearby, catching her breath.

 Re: The Beast Within
Asa hesitated, looking at Feroc. "I don't know about that Feroc. No offense, but as a wolf, there wouldn't be a whole lot you could do to defend yourself if a trap does spring. But Natori is your friend, so if you want to go first, I won't stop you," he said, an uneasy smile on his face. The Rider followed slowly behind Yssala, trying to not disturb her as she searched for a tunnel. He could hear Naor walking behind him and feel her mind as it lightly brushed against Yssala's, looking for the exact place to start digging.
I've got this, you three prepare yourselves, the light blue dragoness said, stepping forward. She didn't wait to see if they followed her advice, she set to work on digging a hole. She grunted as she worked. It wasn't hard for her, tearing back the soft earth with her forepaws, but the further down she went, the more she felt like she was standing on her head.
After about five minutes, she felt her right paw burst through the dirt and into the clear space beyond. I'm through. I'm going to lower my tail into the hole for you to use as a ladder. That distance is a bit too far for two-legs to drop with battle imminent, a sprained ankle could prove fatal, she said, dropping her tail into the hole as she spoke. It was long enough that it went all the way through the tunnel and touched the ground below.
"You ready Feroc?" Asa asked calmly, his clear grey eyes gauging the wolf's health and state-of-mind. He liked what he saw; Feroc still had plenty of energy, and even though he was worried about Natori, he was keeping it under a reasonable amount of control.

 Re: The Beast Within
Feroc grimaced; Asa was right in that Feroc would be more vulnerable to magic then someone with wards, but he couldn't bear it if Asa, Naor, or Yssala got hurt bringing back his companion. At Asa's question, Feroc's tail swished playfully. I'm ready, Feroc replied with a smirk. Feroc leaned his head forward so that he could see the bottom of the hole Naor had dug. He wouldn't be able to use her tail as a ladder on the way down, but the hole wasn't deep enough to where he would need it. Feroc leaped below, plunging into the darkness. He landed nimbly on his four limbs. He then moved so that he wasn't blocking the hole and waited for Yssala and Asa.

 Re: The Beast Within
Once Yssala managed to relax for a brief minute, she stood up and backed away as Naor dug down into the dirt. When Naor reached the cave below, she instructed everyone use her tail as a ladder to climb down to said cave. When Feroc jumped into the hole, Yssala walked over, gauging the situation. She turned to Asa, and smiled. "Well, see you at the bottom." Yssala hopped onto Naor's side and climbed down her tail until she reached the bottom. Three of the faeries that followed her throughout the journey descended down and hovered nearby, acting as torches to guide them. A screech echoed in the air, and Yssala knew Pheo was going to have to stay above ground. "I'll be fine Pheo, you keep guard up there," she called quietly, not having to speak very loudly anyway for Pheo could hear a great distance for a hawk. She looked at Feroc, noticing the glimmer in his eyes even as dark as it was in the cave. He was set on saving his companion even though he was only a wolf with no magic to aid him. His energy alone would be his strength on this mission. Yssala was glad for that. "We're going to have to be very quiet down here, even if we haven't been sensed out yet, sound travels underground very easily," she said softly to Feroc. "Though I imagine everyone knows that anyway I'm just stating it for reassurance," she added.

 Re: The Beast Within
Asa anxiously watched Feroc drop down to the cave below, but nothing seemed to happen when he reached the bottom. The Rider hesitated for a brief second, debating about whether it was really safe, or if a trap was waiting to spring as soon as they were all down there. He shrugged, there wasn't anything he could do about it if there was, except fight. He touched Naor's cheek when she turned her head to look at him. "I will stay safe, for you," he whispered in the ancient language. She blinked at him, the puffed a warm cloud of smoke over him.
The Rider smiled, stroked her cheekbone once more, and then started clambering down her tail spikes. He dropped the last three feet, landing lightly on the balls of his feet with hardly any sound to betray his presence. He nodded at Feroc and Yssala, then slowly stepped towards the tunnel entrance before them. A faerie fluttered by his ear, the faint gust of wind it stirred up ruffling his curly hair. He stopped, cocking an eyebrow at the creature until it got behind him once more. He placed his back to the wall of the entrance, then peered quickly around the corner.
"I don't see anyone, we're clear to move on," he whispered, turning to look at his companions. He glanced up at the ceiling just in time to see the tip of Naor's tail disappear back up the hole she had made. "Feroc, can you smell Natori yet?" he asked the wolf. He didn't want to go stumbling around blindly until they picked up a trail. Better to stumble around blindly with at least something to follow, rather than nothing at all, he thought to himself.
Dark mumblings in the recesses of his mind told him Naor had heard the comment. He smiled and sent her warm, gentle images of their time together. It worked, partially. She was still angry with him for leaving her behind, but not quite as much as before. She knew it was necessary.
"Don't be shy to share your knowledge Yssala. You may know something we don't that will save our lives," he said with a smile.

 Re: The Beast Within
Feroc followed Asa by unspoken consent, although the large wolf wouldn't be happy if Asa got hurt, or worse, died. Feroc knew that Naor would have his head if it were the latter. When Asa asked if Feroc could smell Natori, Feroc sniffed the air almost hungrily, eager for any wisp of Natori's scent. However, what he was met with certainly didn't belong to Natori. He smelled something that made him scrunch his nose in disgust. No, there's another scent that's starting to overwhelm my nose. . .it smells of death down here, Feroc murmured, suddenly growing far more anxious. What if Natori was dead? What if his kidnapper was torturing him for information that Natori didn't possess? The thoughts made Feroc subconsciously quicken his pace, but then he slowed to a casual pace. It wouldn't do to rush through some sort of seal and get killed because of it.
As they came closer to their goal, Feroc began to notice oozing purple smudges on the rocky walls and floors. He vaguely recognized them as being part of the sludges Oracion had summoned when they had fought. Maybe if we follow the smell of death, we'll reach where Natori is located? Feroc suggested. He then gulped at how that had sounded. I didn't mean to suggest that Natori is dead, he corrected. Still, the smell of death was the only thing they had now. Well, there might be one more thing. Yssala, is it possible for you to sense how much further the tunnel leads and if it diverts into any other paths, with your connection to the elements? Natori asked. Asa was right: Yssala's sync with earth could prove useful here.
Oracion knew exactly where they were; they were in his home, after all. A bright blue flame illuminated Oracion's eyes, and spirits of various colors began to manifest around him. Purple sludges trudged along throughout the cavern, and some were currently clinging to the walls and ceiling, ready to drop down on the approaching enemies of Oracion. If the small group somehow managed to defeat all of the sludges, spirits, and Oracion himself, he still had two tricks of his sleeve. One was going to prove quite troublesome to the group, while the latter should make it simply impossible for them to rescue Natori. Natori's body wasn't in sight; in fact, it was hidden quite well. Oracion had to drug the man again to keep him unconscious for another couple of hours, but it would be worth it.

 Re: The Beast Within
"Oh, trust me Asa, I will," Yssala said returning the smile as they moved down the tunnel. "It would be pointless to keep any of that to myself. At the moment, I think we'll be fine as long as we don't make loud noises and stick together as a group."
Though as they ventured on, dark purple smudges appeared on the walls of the tunnel and Feroc suggested that following the smell of death could possibly lead them to Natori. She wasn't disturbed by the comment however. "That guy is probably what you smell, maybe his "lair" is just musty or something." That was only a positive outlook on the dark suggestion, Yssala was not sure on the outcome that has befallen Natori at this point.
When Feroc asked Yssala to reach out again towards the Earth element, she nodded and said, "I can try. But the Earth is not as pure as it was when we first started out. It's tainted, with a very evil aura. It's thanks to that creeper who took Natori. We must be getting close then," she added. Reaching out her hand, Yssala felt the wall, being sure to avoid the purple sludge not knowing what it would do. She listened as the rocks and sand spoke to her, suddenly feeling vulnerable and wary. Never had she felt like this when connecting to the elements in such a way. As she had said, they were tainted, blocking her vision to see where the tunnels led. She caught sight of three tunnels, one leading to a very obvious death. "One leads to a dead end that drops to a pit of acid," she said quietly, her body shivering at this point. "The other two...I can't see where they go, there are two more though, and they have a few other tunnels branching off of them. But there are two that are larger if we stick to them they'll take us straight to a -"
Without warning the purple sludge enveloped her hands, moving on its own. The wall began to dissolve and her hand began to sink into it.
Yssala let out a surpised yell as she pulled it away. The sludge began to move off the walls towards them. "I think we should keep moving, and quickly," she said, moving away from the walls.

 Re: The Beast Within
Asa wrinkled his nose in sympathy as Feroc described what he was smelling. He stepped to the side and allowed the wolf to move to the front as they started off. The further they went, the more purple smudges they encountered on the walls. Remembering the slime-like creatures they had fought earlier, Asa eyed them warily. In the back of his mind, an alarm was sounding shrilly, the same alarm that warned him of ambushes and rampaging Urgals on the horizon. He had just opened his mouth to tell them to keep their eyes wide open, when Yssala reached out and touched the wall.
He flinched, expecting the slime to drop from the walls and ceiling and attack, but it remained where it was, motionless. The Rider relaxed slightly, listening to Yssala describe the tunnels she had found. He looked in the direction the were heading, then flinched again as Yssala yelled unexpectedly. His head whipped back around, seeing the sludge converging on the spot where she had touched the wall. It looked as if it was trying to drag her into the wall. He yelled with disgust and lunged forward, one hand tugging her back behind him, the other, the one with the gedwey ignasia, trailing flames. He swiped at the wall with his glowing hand, the purple ooze shrank back from the heat with odd hissing noises.
"Yssala, can you tell if any of the tunnels coincide with the smell of death that Feroc is picking up? He's right, that smell could very well lead us to wherever the dungeons are in here. Please, make it quick," he asked, releasing her arm and allowing his spell to spread to his other hand so that he was cupping bright blue flames in both palms.
In the back of his mind, he could feel Naor watching, tense with anxiety. She yearned to charge after them and bathe their enemies with the fire of her belly, but dared not for fear of hurting them as well.

 Re: The Beast Within
Feroc scowled, stepping over a purple smudge splattered against the wall. They didn't seem hostile and were probably the asexually produced offspring of the ones they had come across earlier. Yssala began to explain why lie ahead when one of the sludges curiously crawled to her hand. Feroc growled, glaring at the smudge as Yssala pulled her hand out of it. Yssala hastily informed them that they should keep moving, and Feroc couldn't agree more.
Asa asked Yssala if she could distinguish which tunnels are permeated more with the scent of death. Good idea, Feroc grunted. Yssala, what were you going to say about the two larger tunnels? About where they lead? he asked. He knew that he was being a bit insensitive, not asking if she was alright or anything. However, all that mattered now was moving forward and finding Natori. He would repay Yssala and Asa for their services somehow.

 Re: The Beast Within
Yssala steadied herself, not allowing fear to grip her now that they were so close. She watched for a minute as Asa placed a spell on the wall so that the slime would stay dormant. She took a deep breath and tried to focus on the situation at hand. She knew that it was dire they find Natori and fast.
"I was going to say that the tunnels were going to lead to a couple of chambers," she replied. "I can't tell where that scent is coming from by asking the tunnels again. However, the air can speak to me and I can find out where the death smell is coming from." She held her hands out, feeling the still air around her envelop her like a blanket. It whispered to her, dark and formidible like the dirt had been, black promises of despair for them if they continued onward. Yssala persisted, and finally the air gave in and spilled it secrets. She took a couple steps forward, and could see the tunnels mapped out under her eyelids. It led to one specific place, a heavy metal door and she couldn't see beyond that.
"The smell is emitting from a heavy metal door, towards the right," she said quietly. "It's still a way's away but follow the main tunnel vein don't stray off." Yssala looked at the others. "I'll lead, to be sure we are on the right path. The other tunnels will lead us straight to traps and dead-ends. But we are not alone," she added as she heard a faint wail in the air's voice. "I don't know what it is, but it's moaning. Tread carefully." After that, Yssala took her few steps through the main tunnel.

 Re: The Beast Within
Asa eyed the smudges on the wall, but it appeared that now that the things knew they could summon flames at will, they no longer wished to fight with them, or whatever it was they had tried to do to Yssala. He allowed the flames on his hands to die out, then followed Feroc and Yssala, bringing up the rear in case they were attacked from behind. He looked at Yssala, noting the uneasy look on her face, as she listened to something on the air. "Don't worry about it, if they are along our path, I see no reason we can't help them as well. It goes against my grain to leave anyone that can be saved in this cess pit," he said reassuringly. He didn't want to think about the others, the ones who couldn't be saved.

 Re: The Beast Within
Feroc narrowed his eyes as Yssala mentioned something hearing moaning, and Asa added that they could save them.
There's nothing guaranteeing that anything we find in here will be human or not. Besides, if something in this pit of hell did want help, they would be shouting for it. Not moaning. I don't think we should risk closing in on whatever is moaning. Unless that's where Natori and his kidnapper are, of course, Feroc muttered. He doubted that what Yssala heard was friendly. It might even be some minions of Oracion scouring the tunnels for trespassers. No, it was far too risky.
Feroc followed Yssala as she continued on.

 Re: The Beast Within
Yssala nodded to Asa, though she didn't speak about what the possible moans were connected to. Frankly she didn't want to know. Instead, Yssala walked forward glad to have her friends behind her every step of the way. The tunnels were beginning to put her on edge, Yssala felt the claustrophobia set in thoug she wasn't going to admit it.
As she had seen, the group walked past many different passageways. Yssala could hear the whispers as the wind rushed past them, and she didn't even have to try to attempt to hear them.OOC: Where did you want them to go with this FE?

 Re: The Beast Within
I know that, but a little hope and reassurance goes a long way, Asa said to Feroc, nodding at Yssala. She looked like she was going to be sick or have a breakdown. The elements must be tainted beyond belief down here, she looks really bad, he added. He wanted to help her, but there was nothing he could do for any of them until they found Natori and got out of there.
OOC: Shortness...

 Re: The Beast Within
OOC: Lead us to the doors, Yssala. That's where things are going to go down. IC: Not if that hope and reassurance gets us killed, Feroc mumbled in response, but let the matter drop. He winced, glancing at Yssala and noticing her reaction to her surroundings. Seeing Yssala like that made Feroc regret bringing her down here. He knew that she could handle herself well--but he didn't like that she was being exposed to such a tainted environment, especially with her linked commune with the elements. He unconsciously quickened his pace, eager to find Natori and get out of here. Unfortunately, he knew that it wasn't going to be that easy. He could only hope that Oracion hadn't somehow reached the beast inside of Natori.
