A master of sarcasm, humor both dark and light, and the sword, Fear wields weapons of both word, and war. His humor can break the tension of a room or it ablaze with the anger and rage of those around him. However Fear is typically of a cheery mood, light of heart and of word, tense situations are avoided at most costs under the excuse of “Some things are better left untouched by me and my Dragon.” He is also rather reluctant to engage in battle when there are other avenues of negotiation to be tried. Having established a close bond with his dragon, Koja, Fear often bombards people with multiple thoughts at once while engaged in casual conversation, though every now and again this leaves Fear, as well as the listener lost and clueless as to what was being discussed, all thirteen topics. And yet, among all this, Fear’s thirst for exploration is hardly quenched, traveling from the Spine to Surda and even in to the northern forests, there is but one place Koja refuses to take him and that the one place Fear wishes to see, the heart of the Empire, but what else would be expected of one so adventurous? Surely not some fishing trip along the Surdan coast?
Character History:
“RED SAUCE ON PASTA!!” was Ethan’s shout to a random internet pop-up on the Dell laptop that was sitting in front of him. Tyler, slouching in the Desktop computer chair, could only roll his eyes and continue working on the paper he had promised his History teacher for extra credit. “A random internet pop-up my left cheek, more like a 3 year old internet sig I found way back when.” Was Tyler’s only response. Sighing, Tyler stood up and stretched. “So when are you going to let me have my laptop back? Before or after you kill the battery?” Looking up, Ethan, with that: I’m going to give you the dumbest answer ever. Look on his face replied “Oh… maybe after you give me the pass- is that a really short guy with a sword twice the size he is on his back?”
“Yep and that’s your bike he’s ridding off on not that you’ll ever catch him with how fast
you run.” And just like that Ethan was gone with the slam of his mother’s front door chasing the man with a sword on his back. “Hmm… Note to self never steal Ethan’s bike, well I should chase after him to help clean up the wreck and where are my shoes? Oh well I’ll just go without them.” Chasing after the two Tyler noticed that the cloudless, noon day sky above was darkening fast as if the sun was just going to stop shining and a stiff breeze was blowing in from the north and east. By this time Tyler had caught up to Ethan and the short man, who was still ridding the bike no more than half a foot in front of Ethan. And then it began. Thunder ripped through the sky and the wind blew so hard that 200 year old trees began to fly as if they were only toys in a small child’s hands. At that noon day hour the sun shone no more. Pitch black skies and thunder that struck with the furry of gods, this was the last of what Tyler remembered as the pressure of being squeezed to an inch of death gripped him and sucked him in to a unseen vortex.
When Tyler came to, the past events were thought to be naught but a bad dream that was until he opened his eyes and saw a figure dressed in red, standing over Ethan’s dead body. “You’re kidding right? Creepy man dressed in red, no wait that’s blood but still it’s all the same to me right now, holding the sword that was on the short guy’s back and my best friend dead all within 5 feet of me. This is like something I would have written two maybe three years ago! What the Hell! Who’s been reading Inkheart out loud!” the man dressed in red approached Tyler and spoke in a voice dripping with malice “Ah! So you survived the journey did you? Let’s see how long you’ll survive in a camp full of Ra’zac, Urgals, and other Shades. Perhaps one of them will see you fit enough to eat for dinner hahahahaha or maybe I should do to you what I did to your friends over there” The man’s voice made Tyler want to cringe but his laughter awoken a deeper feeling a feeling mixed with Fear, Hate, and Vengeance. Feelings that could not be suppressed by humor and sarcasm, fleeting memories of the last time this feeling was only just brushed showed a man twice Tyler’s size beaten raw. That was 3 years ago. But this time, no, there was no this time. There was only Fear, madness and rage pushing all other thought away. This man did not just brush this feeling. No, he dug it out for the whole world to see! And he was about to pay dearly for
that mistake. Yelling at the top of his lunges Tyler charged at the man not caring that the man held a sword that could easily cut him to ribbons. Tyler ripped a dagger from a dead body and stabbed over and over in to the man’s chest, and laughter was the man’s response. “Ignorant boy! You can not kill me! No. Not even close! Well I think you’ve had enough fun for today.” With blinding speed, the man, which Tyler would later learn was a Shade, plunged his hand into Tyler’s chest and ripped out his still beating heart “Well it’s been awhile since I did that so cleanly, so I’ll use this chance to create a new minion.” With this being said the Shade began summoning spirits to inhabit Tyler’s now dead and heartless body. However by summoning so early Tyler’s spirit was still close enough to be drawn in and “re-take” the lost body which for argument’s sake happened, we’ll call it poetic license. “Raise my new minion and take the blade of the fallen as my offering!” Tyler -now undead, heartless, and totally clueless- raised to take the blade but only found a color changing rock. “A blade? It looks more like a color changing rock to me.” Surprised by how quickly a spirit had come the shade jumped. “Well that was fast and no you don’t get this, you get the sword that came with it, this. And from now on you are to be now as Fear” Pulling out a sword that appeared to be made of opal the shade handed it to the newly undead. “
hmm now that I’m thinking this reminds me of a book I read a few years ago, back in 5th grade… what was the name… oh who cares I’m standing here heatless, with a blade in my hand and a vague idea of how to kill this guy what am I just standing here for? perhaps you should have waited a bit before calling?” This had caught the shade off guard. Spinning to confront his newly summoned minion the shade was met by a blade point straight in the heart. “Was that all it takes to make people here jump? Oh well now that I’ve started might as well finish…” Plunging the blade the rest of the way Tyler, now Fear, killed his killer. “
HEY! Watch your step! I just bloody well hatched down here!!!! ” This new speaker was a tiny color changing lizard with wings no larger than Fear’s palm. Taken by surprise Fear of course stepped on the tiny lizard with his bare foot. “
Well that was smart, stepping on just hatched dragons. I should nibble off your toes right now! But I can’t because, by stepping on me you bonded with me so I’ll feel your pain and you’ll feel mine and we’ll never get any where now will we? *chuckle* ” but an answer was never given as Fear the Shade, soaked in his own blood, became a Dragon Rider with a gedwëy ignasia on his left foot.
Weapons:
• Sword: A blade made of black diamond, named Blood Price that rivals elfin made swords and is also the home of Fear’s heart; therefore if the blade is destroyed Fear will be killed instantaneously.
• Second Sword: Standard Hand and a half blade, with leather pommel, used in dual-wielding combat
• Bow and Arrow: plain, with barbed tips.
• Throwing knives: Cheap, and quickly replaced, often used to cut though bonds when magic use would be, unwise.
Likes: Watching the sun set from the top of a mountain and knowing that another day has been lived out.
Dislikes: Having to work for a meal
Animal Companions: Koja, Dragon
Character's Physical Description: Standing at six foot two inches. Fear is taller than the average person, as a result of this he often walks in a slouch to appear shorter. Wearing black pants and forest green shirt, a black cape is often used to cover both Blood Price and bow, though both the pommel of the sword and the tip of the bow stick out from the top of the cape, the quiver is strapped to Fear’s right leg for left handed shooting. Also, dark rugged leather boots that reach mid-calf are worn, these house throwing knives.
Dreams for the Future: Seeing this new world he’s found him self in and exploring all it has to offer
Reason for Dreams: Typically when you’re thrust in to a new place, the first thing you do is explore, Fear is no different.
Alignment/side: That of those who he sees as right.
Dragon Name: Koja
Age: 4
Gender: male
Parents: unknown
History: Born to the world by the presence of his future rider in danger Koja has never really known a place that could be called home for more than a week, nor a peace that is truly lasting, though often in Fear’s travels there have been people whom Koja has come to enjoy the company of, such as that of the old elder who granted Fear the ability of regeneration with out the use of Fear’s magic
Personality: While using his intellect ,which is superior to other dragons his age by 10 fold, often results in trouble for both dragon and his rider though more times than not the original use of that intellect was to get them both out of a previous problem. While quickly learning from his mistakes there is little for Koja to do but continue trying till something works, which often takes more time than anyone could hope for. Though not the greatest enthusiast of Fear’s humor Koja has formed his own not too dissimilar to that of Fear’s
Color: it shifts between the colors of the rainbow in nauseating waves that can only be fought off by an empty stomach (yeah that’s right he changes color to make you throw up!
)
Appearance: 20 feet long from nose to tail, a 40 foot wingspan and sparkling wolf yellow eyes, Koja is exceptionally agile in both the air and water but such grace is unknown on land where claws, hard enough to cut the average diamond with ease, trip and tumble over rocks and tree roots without discrimination
Armor: None
Dreams for future: fixing that gaping hole in Fear’s chest and waking up one day and finding out that he’s finally settled down in one place
Reasons for dreams: The hole is just creepy to look at, and traveling all over the country side and beyond for the rest of his life just isn’t one of those things he had planned on when he hatched, but where ever Fear goes he will gladly go too.
