Paito has some combat skills too. He knows how to use a sword and a bow and arrow. He is an accurate shot with an arrow. He is also good at hand to hand combat and possesses great physical strength.

Paito has many survival skills such as hunting, fishing, making his own clothing, and making things out of wood. He had learned how to recognize edible plants and can even make stews and things.

Character Personality: Paito prefers to be alone most of the time. He doesn't like big cities or large crowds. The reason for this is because he was raised in a rural setting and his parents were traveling merchants. Paito has never been around many people and enjoys the quiet serenity of nature. Paito is very protective of those he loves. There are few people that he loves as he lives by himself. However, he is protective of his dragon and there is a strong bond between the two of them. Paito has learned from experience not to trust anyone right away because he was once robbed because of it. He enjoys playing his flute at night and sleeping under the stars. He is easily amused and rarely bored, espcially with his dragon to keep him company. Paito likes living in the mountains and forests because he feels safe and secure there and because he does not wish for the Empire to discover his dragon. Paito can be a bit irritable when he is interrupted while deep in thought or concentration but is generally easy going and laid back. Paito tries to keep an open mind and believes that most people have good in them somewhere, with the exception of a few. He is usually optimistic and tries to see the bright side of every issue. This has helped him overcome grief such as when his father vanished. He saw it as an opportunity to live his own life and it turned out to change his life forever. He never would have found Seroc's egg otherwise. Paito also considers himself to be intelligent and this had led him to become a bit arrogant. He sometimes has trouble acknowledging his mistakes which may prove to be a problem further down the road.


Character History: Paito was born in Daret but his family were traveling merchants and never stayed anywhere for more than a few days. He grew up on the road. He had a bad experience in one of the big cities once and as a result, he hates going into large, crowded cities. Paito has never shared the experience with anyone but his parents and later, his dragon. When Paito was 18, his mother died of cholera and a year later, his father mysteriously vanished on a hunting trip. All he found was signs of a struggle and tracks leading off as if he had been dragged away. It has always bothered Paito that he does not know the fate of his father. Paito was alone and decided to live in the wilderness and away from people. Paito was 22 and while traveling through the thickly wooded mountains, Paito came across some ruins that were once a Dragon Rider outpost. There, he salvaged a few useful items. On his way out, Paito located a grey dragon egg with dark green speckles that had been hidden in the wall and thought it was a pretty stone. He was surprised when it hatched into a greyish brown dragon. Paito named the dragon Seroc and the two became very close. The two have not been apart since the day Seroc hatched. Paito has also spent time learning about the Ancient Language and the Dragon Riders so that he can use magic. Recently, he has tried to teach Seroc to read after the dragon asked him what was so fascinating about looking at paper. He has had a small amount of success because the only book he has is mostly spells. Paito makes money by selling beads and other things he carves out of wood. Though these only earn him a crown or two, that is all he needs. After all, Paito doesn't buy many things.

Weapons: Paito has a steel longsword that his father owned. The sword has a gold hilt with two wolves carved into it and the pommel looks like a silver eagle with its wings folded.

Paito has a short bow that he made himself. The bow is mainly used for hunting and possibly a weapon against small threats. It would be useless against something large like a dragon or a lethrblaka. Luckily he has never had to fight with either.

Paito has a steel dagger with the same hilt design as the long sword. It also belonged to his father. He also owns a set of three throwing knives which he carries in a pouch on his belt.

Other possessions: a book that contains translations of the Ancient Language into the regular language, a hatchet used for cutting wood, a blanket his mother made him, a water canteen, a few candles made of deer tallow, his map of Alagaesia, a spare set of clothing, and his flute. He also owns a fiddle.

Likes: Nature, spending time in the woods, his dragon, playing the flute and fiddle, wood carving (it is good stress relief), and warm, summer nights. He also likes making his own food and living off the land.

Dislikes: Cold, rainy weather, blizzards, winter in general, missing his target while hunting, large cities, crowds, the Empire, injustice.

Animal Companions: Would the dragon count?

Character's Physical Description: Paito appears muscular and is in great physical shape. He has hazel blue eyes and dark brown hair. He usually wears buckskin clothes and hard leather shoes. Paito has a few scars on his face, the product of living in the woods all the time. He also has a tatoo of a grey wolf, the symbol of his family, his left shoulder.

Dreams for the Future: He eventually wishes to become a Dragon Rider. As a child, Paito had heard stories of the Dragon Riders and when he found out that it was all true, he became obsessed with learning all he could about them. Unfortunately, due to the limited access to books and people, and the fact that there is nobody around to teach him the ways of the Rider, Paito's dream will prove to be a real challenge to accomplish.

As a side note, he is also searching for his missing father.

Reason for Dreams: Paito has always hated the Empire, the main reason because Galbatorix almost completely destroyed the dragon race. He also hates what Galbatorix has done to the people of Alagaesia. Paito wants to become a Dragon Rider so that he can help overthrow the king and return piece to the land.

Dragon Name: Seroc

Age: 3

Gender: Male

Parents: unknown

History: Seroc's egg was hidden behind some bricks in the wall of a Rider outpost during a raid by the Foresworn. Although everyone at the outpost was killed, Seroc's egg remaind unfound. After Seroc hatched, Paito had to be extra careful to hide him in the mountain forests and the dragon grew up there. Recently, Paito made Seroc a simple saddle and Seroc took him flying. Although they can fly now, the two prefer to only do it at night to reduce the risk of being seen.

Personality: Seroc is very curious about human ways. Paito is one of the only humans he has ever seen and the young dragon would like nothing more than to see some more humans. Unfortunately, Paito insists that it is too dangerous for them to reveal themselves. They don't know who they can trust. Seroc is wise, which is a trait of his species, and he has given Paito very helpful advice on more than one occasion. Seroc loves Paito very much and has sworn to protect him no matter what. Seroc is laid back most of the time and rarely cross although he gets impatient during bad weather that forces him to remain in one place for long periods of time. He can be very protective of his rider though. Seroc has become interested in learning to read even though he is a dragon and would have no use for it. He wants to know why humans are so fascinated about looking at words on paper.

Appearance: Seroc is mostly a tan color. His spikes, claws, horns, and teeth are white and his eyes are a dark, pine green. He has a dull grey underside. Seroc is about twenty-five long and has a wingspan of about thirty-five feet. He has small hard stubs on the tip of his tail that can be used as a clubbing weapon.

Dreams for future: Like Paito, his dream is to learn the ways of the Draon Riders and to serve Paito. He also wants to help his Rider bring an end to Galbatorix's rule but like Paito, is unsure of how to do so. For the time being, Seroc and Paito must try to find someone who can teach them some decent combat skills. As mentioned above, his main short-term goal is to learn to read.

Reasons for dreams: Because Seroc's race was almost destroyed and he wants to take revenge on Galbatorix for what he did to the dragons. He wants to fight the Empire alongside Paito but he knows that with their meager skills, they would be lucky to last 5 minutes. As for reading, he is curious and wants to know what it is that humans like about reading so much.
