Book for sure. I haven't seen the movie, but Arya doesn't have red or blonde or whatever color her hair is in the movie. She has black hair and Eragon isn't a blondie, he has brown hair. I also heard that Brom died wrong. I always prefer the book over the movie.

Chapter One
Odette stood behind her friend, Scarlet. The two of them were both waiting in an extremly long line that wound around all of Ur'baen. Though normally, the condiitons wouldn't be like this in Ur'baen. King Galbatorix normally only aloud royalty to go even within a few feet of the egg. But, the situation was becoming desperate. He now was allowing commoners like Odette to have a shot at being the dragon rider. But Odette knew she couldn't be the next rider. And as her turn grew closer, something caught her eye out of line. A giant silver rock hidden behind a tree.

the movie, in movie-terms, was not half-bad. it was well-made, good moral, pretty good action sequences, and Saphira :D looked AMAZING. which is quite unfair, one critic said that he has seen sock puppets scarier than Saphira :D Trust me, if I could e-mail him, i would be sooooo telling him off.

If its entertainment, uh , read the book anyway.

Definately the book. It captures all the true emotions the characters were feeling and in the movie it skipped through so fast you didn't even get to feel who the characters really were. And plus they left out too many of the signifigant characters.

I know, right? I wish they had made it more like the book, but i guess it is just so complex a story it's better that it stays on paper.

It is true. You will miss a lot of information if you watch the movie and not everyone looks as they are supposed to. Also, a lot of info gets twisted and there are two more books and not more movies.

If you were to watch the movie first it would seem good, until you read the book and discover how much better the books are.

1. Read the book
2. Watch the movie
3. Realize how much better than the movie the books are and return to reading.
4. Keep the movie anyway.. its not bad, just try to bury the fact that you know how much stuff they did entirely wrong.

Personally I will say this, I love the way Saphira looks in the movie, she is beautiful. They went for realism with her so her so she lost the deep sparkly blue color she has in the book which was sad.. but its not so bad that its really worth complaining about.

They did alot of things entirely wrong in the movie, in my view as said before some of it just seems lazy on their part (Zar'roc having a blue stone for example, not having the elves have pointy ears, having the dwarves not be.. dwarves..) and got rid of alot of important characters in the storyline seemingly just for the sake of cutting down the movie (which should have topped off at atleast 3 hours)

Elva was infact in the movie, though Eragon was the only one to "bless" her. As was Katrina, and Roran had slightly more in the way of story.. it was all just cut out.. But they still could have done more. And the other things are explained in a rather rediculous manner, like how Arya doesn't have black hair because they "Didn't want anyone to mistake her for Arwen." Part of me understands the reasoning for things like this, since Lord of the Rings is actually still getting new versions released after all these years and people don't want their work to seem like a knockoff but it shouldn't have mattered, they should have stayed faithful to what was in the book as much as possible.

Now the books on the other hand have much more going for them, its the exact vision the author had for the story and thus it is by default more informative, you can never really compare books and movies. Books will always have the advantage of being longer and more thought out, now if CP had been involved in the script for the movie from the beginning then its likely to have been much more faithful to the book but.. it simply wasn't so.

I am beginning to rant so I will end it saying the movie wasn't terrible.. it wasn't as good as it should have been either though, if you are forced to choose between the two however get the book and ignore the movie entirely. (I actually like the movie, dispite its many flaws.. But thats partly because its one of the very few movies that has dragons as intelligent magical things who aren't all evil)

The only thing about Saphira I didn't like was that they made her wings look birfy. I've never seen a dragon with feathers and I didn't think it looked too great. Also, I wished they had actually tried to make the urgals look like actual urgals.

Do both, but read the book first.
