Corido and Ser'lla
Name: Corido
Age: 16
Skills: Corido isn’t particularly strong, but he’s a good swordsman. He’s very smart, and learned swordplay well. Even though he’s lazy, Corido can be very fast and agile. In a fight, most people tend to underestimate him because he’s small and not very strong.
Corido’s magic is very strong, though, like with swordplay, he generally doesn’t win by force. Instead, he wins by intelligence and creativity. He has a wide knowledge of the ancient language and is good at making up new spells.
Gender: Male
Race: Human
Hair: Bright red
Eyes: Blue
Home Village: Gil’ead
Parents: Hanna and Lonech
Siblings: Haerim (Currently known as Zalda)
Character personality: Corido is generally a rather placid, even lazy person. He doesn’t like to be on the move when he could be relaxing. If someone needs help, he generally won’t help unless asked, but once asked, he will happily provide his assistance. Corido generally doesn’t have much temper. He can withstand verbal and physical blows without getting the slightest bit angry, but when the barrage turns on someone else, especially if it’s a friend of his, then he gets upset. He isn’t at all good at holding his emotions in, if he’s angry or scared, he doesn’t do anything to hide it. Corido does not like physical exercise, and in his opinion, the only thing really worth getting up for is food. In spite of being a little lazy, Corido enjoys causing mischief, though he hates getting caught. He likes to make people laugh, and doesn’t mind being teased. Corido is a very impulsive person, and often does things without thinking them through. He doesn’t mind being called lazy. In fact, he practically considers it a compliment. When people call him “Lazy,” he takes it to mean “Relaxed.” Corido is often puzzled by people. He doesn’t understand why some people work so hard, but he doesn’t try to change anyone’s character. When Corido is confused by something, that brings him about as close to frustrated as he ever gets. In general, he’s a very friendly, cheerful, and slightly lazy person.
Character history: Corido was born in Gil’ead. For years, Corido was tormented by his older brother. This didn’t bother him so much, he could bear it, but Corido did get upset when Haerim turned on his friends. A couple times he told his parents, but he quickly learned that his parents refused to believe there was anything wrong in Haerim, and telling or protesting in any way just made it worse. Corido and his brother both received lessons in magic, physical combat, etcetera. For six years he lived like this, until Haerim went on a hunting trip and never came back. No one except their parents were able to feel very upset, though everyone tried to pretend they were.
Nine years later, when he was about fifteen, Corido’s parents died of fever and he was sent to live with Brandon, a distant relative. Brandon wasn’t very friendly, but he was ok. The only really strange thing about him was that there was one door that Corido was absolutely forbidden to open.
Corido liked to cause a little mischief, and he guessed Brandon would be pretty upset if he broke into the forbidden room. In fact, he would probably be furious. Which was why Corido wouldn’t let him find out who had done it. For weeks he planned how he would get into the room. First he made copies of all Brandon’s keys. Then he made plans for how he would get the guards away from the door. When he was finally ready, he slipped a drug into the guard’s food that made them highly suggestible, then told them that they were supposed to be guarding another room. With the drug, it wasn’t too difficult to convince them to leave their post, and once they left, Corido began trying all the keys on the door until he found the right one, then he slipped into the room.
The room contained nothing but a small chest, with several locks on it. Corido took one look at the chest and knew he didn’t have enough time to get it open. But he definitely didn’t want to leave without finding out what was in the chest. For a few moments he stared at the chest, then an idea formed in his head. He could just take the chest and leave. Why not? He didn’t really like it here, he’d often thought about running away. Corido picked up the chest, cast a simple invisibility spell over himself, and ran.
Once he was several miles away, Corido tried all the keys on the locks until he found the right keys. He opened the chest. Corido stared at what was inside the chest. It was a blue stone, with white lines running through it. Why had Brandon guarded it so closely? Sure, it was pretty-More than pretty, but he couldn’t see anything else special about it. Corido sighed and yawned. It was getting late and he was worn out from running. He climbed up a nearby tree, put the stone in one fork of the tree, and went to sleep.
Corido jerked awake. What had woken him up? He looked around. The blue stone was moving. It was rocking violently from side to side. It fell from the tree. Corido leapt to the ground, wondering if the fall had damaged the stone. He picked it up carefully and turned it over to see a wide crack on it. Strange, He thought, placing the stone in his lap, I didn’t think it was fragile enough for such a short fall to put such a big crack in it. The crack widened and a something poked a nose out of the stone. It’s an egg. But an egg for what? Corido tapped on the egg, hoping to widen the crack. Nothing happened. Corido sighed and continued to watch the egg. It continued rocking. Then the crack widened even more and a head poked out. Two sapphire blue eyes stared at Corido, blinked. Then the egg began rocking again, so violently that if it had still been in the tree, it would have fallen off again. More cracks appeared in the egg, it shattered, and suddenly he was holding a dragon in his lap.
Corido named the dragon Serlla and together, they went to the Varden. Over the next year, Corido encountered several people who tried to assassinate him, and he discovered that they were in the pay of a mysterious person called Zalda.
Weapons: A short, slender sword forged of hard steel and about two feet long, and the blade curved slightly at the point. The sword has a sapphire in the hilt. Both the hilt and scabbard are inlaid with gold wires.
Corido also has another sword, similar to the first, but shorter, about a foot and a half long. The blade is straight, unlike his other sword. The hilt and scabbard are decorated the same as the first sword, though there’s a little less inlay in the scabbard. The sword has a small emerald in the hilt.
Likes: Sunny days, relaxing, eating
Dislikes: Lots of physical activity, crowded places, people who can’t take a joke
Physical appearance: Corido is a very un-commanding figure, only about four foot eight and not well muscled. His stance does nothing to help this, he doesn’t stand up straight, he always looks completely relaxed. The first thing anyone notices about him is his hair. His hair is fire red and wildly curly, which, combined with the fact that he hardly ever brushes his hair, makes him constantly look as if he just stuck a fork in a toaster. His eyes are bright blue. He doesn’t have a strict dress code, he wears whatever’s comfortable-Which usually means an electric blue shirt and matching pants. For when it’s colder, he has an emerald green cloak. It doesn’t match the rest of his clothes very well, but he doesn’t really care about that. He has his two swords belted around his waist with a belt bearing the same gold inlay designs as his swordhilts and sheaths.
Dreams for the Future: To find out who Zalda is and why he wants to kill him
Reasons for Dreams: Corido has no idea why Zalda wants to kill him, and it irritates him
Alignment/Side: The Varden
Dragon
Dragon Name: Ser’lla
Age: About a year
Gender: Female
Parents: Unknown
History: Corido found-Or stole might be a more accurate description-Ser’lla’s egg in a chest in the house of a relative, where he was staying after his parents died. He took the chest with Ser’lla’s egg in it and ran away, then opened the chest and found Ser’lla’s egg, though at the time he did not recognize the egg for what it was. Ser’lla hatched for him, and the two of them joined the Varden. Over the next year, Ser’lla learned to breathe fire and the two of them were hunted by a mysterious man called Zalda.
Personality: Ser’lla is very shy. She doesn’t like crowds and tries to stay out of conversations. In spite of her shyness, however, Ser’lla is very much a mother hen, sort of “The leader of the flock.” She is very protective of her friends and will always give help. Serlla is liked by everyone, but she often gets a little gloomy. When she’s unhappy, she becomes morose and apathetic, though Corido always cheers her up. Ser’lla is very determined and always reaches her goals. Ser’lla is immensely protective of Corido and always tries to stand between him and any danger, even when it’s totally unnecessary. Ser’lla thinks a lot more than Corido does and often has to pull him out of making terrible mistakes.
Color: Blue
Appearance: Ser’lla has an average wingspan for her age, about thirty feet. She is very powerfully built. Her eyes are sapphire blue. Her back is the same color, while her head, neck and tail are a slightly darker blue, her legs are a shade darker, her wings are slightly lighter than her eyes, and her underbelly is a blue so dark that it sometimes appears black. Her claws and spines are white.
Dreams for the future: To bring the dragons back to what they once were
Reasons for Dreams: She hates that dragons have to live in hiding
