So many moments have been spent on this form, and just as many hours have been spent off this form. Why do we come back? To claim mementos, to see how others are doing, to read and remember what it felt like to read. We come back to find whispers in a Ghost land. A place where memories are real regardless of their fabrication in light of lacking authenticity because we choose what parts we want to remember.

I had a conversation recently with Nate, that really said a lot. See below:

i think part of it was the "age"
not our ages
but the age in time of technology and social media and story telling etc

facebook, twitter, all of that wasn't a community
and possibly in my opinion still is a poor one
but it took over

The forum was a group story, that we continued on many different fronts, but once the idea of instant updates and all these other opportunites to share yourself surfaced..
SF feels like too much work in comparison'

Quick gratification is the single killer of our social structure today. Why type when you can post a video or picture that says so much more. As disappointing as it it, I even find it hard to come back here sometimes. My ADD seems to take over.

I miss a good number of people, but most of those people have kept in contact with me outside of SF. =] You know who you are!

I hear ya Pete, I've thought about making a similar topic...but I find it hard to bring myself to do it.

I spent many hours on these forums, back in 2007 I remember promising myself someday I would be one of those Moderators I looked up to. I accomplished that vision, enjoyed every second of it...but Social Media did change things. I find myself victim of Facebook's grasp. I often log in to SF just to see how things are going, reminisce on some of the old times, then grow sad that I can never experience such a golden age again. (it's kind of like remembering playing Pokemon, or reading Eragon for the first time...it'll never be the same. lol)

Anyway, there's my two cents.

Eh? Really? I stopped because I was spending hours on the forums every day and couldn't keep that up anymore when high school came around. I don't think social media killed it. Social media's not that great of a way to talk to people you don't know IRL, not the way forums like this are. You bring a good point up about instant messaging... maybe someone should make an IRCchan for SF. That'd give me a good reason to go on, other than using xdcc.
