Post Snow Way Out
OOC: This RPG is open to EVERYONE!! There is no major lot other than going east to look for new places to relocate some of the dwarf clans so if you wish to introduce something feel free!

IC:
It was only the fool’s errand to go out during the winter, especially in the Beor Mountains. Many had called him insane, and even tried to talk him out of it; however, Ranog had to go. The dwarf was headed east in search of more secluded and more secure places for the dwarf clans who were more exposed and vulnerable would have a place to relocate. Ranog knew the dangers and the stupidity of his action, but winter was the only time the dwarves could afford a spell caster and warrior of his skill to leave the king. Much had happened of late, Eragon and the Varden were beginning to wage open war against Galbatorix. The elves were beginning to stir, and the powers of Alagaesia were beginning to awaken from their halls. Things were changing and it was possible they were changing for the worse. This is why Ranog was on his journey.

The sturdy little dwarf was beyond cold. Before he had left, Ranog had been sure to buy some of the best wool and feldunost fur clothing possible so that he could maintain some semblance of warmth in the bitterly cold Beors on his trip. He had loaded up on dried meats and hard biscuits which were not the most flavorful of foods, but they would keep him alive and give him the much needed energy to get about in the snow covered land. As the dwarf walked, his faithful companion and closest friend, Urson walked behind him. The feldunost was much more adapted to survive the cold, but even he was less than comfortable as the chilling wind blew more snow into his eyes. The feldunost was walking behind his friend with his saddle and bags of supplies for the trip. Why could they not have waited until the spring?

As Ranog walked, he would look behind them; however, nothing could be seen. The wind-driven snow created a white screen which blocked out all but the closest of objects, and stuck to fur, hair, and flesh like frozen glue. This was a miserable place, yet Ranog had a duty to his fellow dwarves, one he intended to fulfill. When Ranog felt they had walked about far enough for the first day, well that and the fact he had lost feeling in his toes all fourteen of them. Once they found a cave, the dwarf and feldunost entered and went as far to the back as they could manage to avoid the cutting wing and the chilling snow. Once in the back of the small face, Ranog pulled out some of the firewood he had stored in the bags on Urson’s back. With a quick word, a small fire started.

Post Re: Snow Way Out
Laana stopped in the snow and looked around her. She now knew that being out here was the most idiotic choices she had made. She had had no results finding any information on her parents in the Empire so she had swiftly made for Surda. She didn't know what she would find there but she hoped it would be something. To her dismay, she didn't even know where to begin. Surda was much different than any place she had been in the Empire and she was at a loss of where to go or what to do. Staying in Aberon for days upon days, she had met a small group secluded group of people headed to the Varden. She reluctantly agreed to go with them. She knew not who the people were just like the knew nothing about her but they went on their journey. Most of the way the group was silent, she barely talking at all. They faced no problems except for a small group of men who they had to outrun. After that they went at a slower pace until they were deep in a forest between two of the great mountains. One man, someone I later learned to be the leader of the group, insisted that all of us then cover our eyes with blindfolds and tied our horses so that we would be walking one in front of the other. We soon came across a loud crushing noise that he relayed to be a waterfall and that we were to abandon our things and he helped us underneath it. To her dismay the group had to submit to two men examining all of their minds and ever since it left Laana feeling vulnerable. Ever since, when she crossed paths with the two men, she felt uneasy as they stared at her.

She soon found herself wandering through what she found out was Farthen Dûr and spent most of her time doing that. She took in every sight with excitement and spent her nights going through the sights in her mind. An event that occurred days later is what led her to walking around in this snow-covered landscape. Eragon, the only living dragon-rider, and his dragon, Saphira, had come to the Varden. She had only seen a glimpse of him but something about it made her want to do something. She didn't know what, but she was tired of being cooped up indoors and underground and she wanted to get out. She spent her time after that wandering through the caves, through the tunnels not knowing why she was there. So, she gathered what supplies she had and bought food and bought warmer clothes. It was easy to find because of her size and she barely had enough food for a few days worth.

She then made her way from the great city and into the mountains. She has seen no maps of the mountains themselves but just a general view of them. Bundled up tight, she walked on and on until she came across a path that led up the side of a mountain and she decided to take it. The path seemed to stretch on forever and she was begging to consider the idea of turning back. This is where she saw herself now. Looking back and forth and from time to time, down the side of the mountain, following the snow as it fell into the distance. With a sigh she turned and continued the path onward. A few feet further, she took a step and fell through the cracked ground. Her weight fell onto her other knee for a moment before the rest of her went with her foot. Fear panged in her as she grabbed onto the side of the path and kicked her legs against the ice, trying to get any kind of footing. Her fingers grew cold and she reached one of her arms up in an attempt to pull herself up. As all of her weight was put onto her one hand, the ice crumbled again and she fell. She cried out as she pressed her hands against the slick ice and kicked her feet under her. Slivers of ice cut at her exposed fingers and the fear was now emanating from ever crevice of her. After what seemed like minutes, her feet collided with a hard surface and they buckled, making her hit full onto her back. On contact she let out a loud groan but the pain was not enough to keep her there for long. She sat up and crawled to the side of the mountain, pressing her back against it and bringing her legs to her chest. She sat there and didn't move, hoping that the ledge would not break or crumble. After some time, She could hear a slight pounding and she looked up in just enough time to see snow following her descent and she covered her head. The snow hit her full on but she did not get buried. After the weight stopped gaining, she pushed through the top until her hands made it through and cleared it until she was able to stand. She pushed some of the snow around her off of the edge until a small barrier was around her and she sat back down. She felt the day was almost over and knew that the snow would somewhat protect her from the wind. From her bags, she pulled out small pieces of wood and lit it with the flint and steel. The fire flickered but luckily did not go out. She curled herself up into a ball against the side of the mountain once again and waited for nightfall.

Post Re: Snow Way Out
Ranog was just beginning to regain feeling in his extremities from a combination of the fire and the warmth created by Urson next to him when he saw something fall in front of the cave. At first, the dwarf assumed it was just snow, then he began to worry. What if it was not snow, but someone looking for him to try and get him to come back to Farthen Dur? They could be out there dead for all he knew, or worse sevierely injured and slowly freezing to death. He cursed under his breath, sat his mug of mead down, grabbed his mattok and stalked outside.

The cold wind cut at his ears through the furs, and now quickly began to accumulate in his beard and on his clothes, slightly melting from the warmth of his skin. This only made the dwarf colder as the partially melted water was quickly soaked up in all the wool he had on. He grumbled and mumbled under his breath as he looked about for any sign of someone.

As he peered into the darkness, he thought he saw someone or something below him on a small ledge which jutted out from the mountain side. He continued to try and pierce the swirling snow and darkness around him with his eyes, but finally gave up. Then he used his mind. He stretched his conssciousness toward the being and saw that it was indeed intelligent, so the dwarf yelled at the being and said, "Hey! Are you ok down there?! Who are you? And why in the name of Helzvog are you doing out here, don't you know its coming a blizzard?!"

Laana shivered from the cold and pressed herself more against the face of the mountain which only made her shiver more. The wind made the fire whip back and forth and it provided little warmth for her. She knew that she would have to find more warmth than this or risk freezing. Not like anyone would miss me. She scoffed and shook her head at the comment. The next moment she was on her feet, clutching the hilt of her sword and looking around her. She heard some sort of noise, she didn't know what, but it was irregular from the normal sounds of the gushing wind. She peered over above the snow ledge in front of her and then over the edge, careful not to get to close. After crossing her arms and tapping her foot, she finally looked up to see a shadowy figure some length above her. She was surprised to see anyone else in this cold and cleared her throat to call out to him.

"Hello! I'm sorry I can't quite hear you!" She shouted, feeling a slight strain in her voice. She looked at the smooth ice covered rock in front of her surmising a way to climb it up to the figure above. She pulled out her dagger and threw it a few feet up into the ice and crouched low, preparing to climb it.

The dwarf cupped a hand to his ear as he tried to listen to the human who was standing below him. It sounded like the human said, "Hello! ... sorry ... can't ...... you!" the dwarf stood on his tip toes looking at the woman. Then, he turned his mattok and held the top of it and had the handle pointed toward the woman. He took in a deep breath of the ice air and then bellowed, "TAKE THE END OF THE AXE I'LL PULL YOU UP!" yelled the dwarf at the top of his lungs as he saw the human, female he could make out now that she was closer leap on something sticking out of the ice. She did not need to be out here very long, the weather was only getting worse and if it got too bad, they could freeze before they made it back to the cave and the fire and Urson.

The dwarf waited patiently on the woman to grab the axe handle, even though his teeth were chattering and his entire body was shivvering violently from the cold.

Laana was about to jump and pull herself up with the dagger when she saw something appear over the ledge of the cliff and heard the person above yell to grab it. A strong gust of wind blew past her at that time and it made her shake uncontrollably. Leaving the fire to go out on its own, she jumped and used the dagger to push herself up far enough to grab the end of a bow. As soon as she grabbed it, she pulled her dagger out and quickly put it back in its sheath so she could grab the bow with both hands. She felt herself be pulled up and when she was within range of the ledge, she freed one of her hands to grab the ledge and help pull herself up. When she was up and over she crouched next to, who she now saw was a dwarf, and looked around until she saw a cave at the far end.

Ranog looked at the woman and said, "C'mon missy aint fit for dwarf nor beast out in this cold." said the dwarf as he shuffled toward the cave. Then he turned and said, "If you want, you can stay there with me for the night. Tis too cold to move on, and too dark and slippery to get back to Farthen Dur." said the dwarf as he pushed his way through the waist deep (for him) snow.

When he got insife, Ranog introduced himself and said, "Names' Ranog this is my mate Urson. And who might you be?" asked the dwarf as he poured another cup of meade and sat next to the fire.

Laana nodded idly and followed the dwarf into the cave, thankful to be out of the cold. She sat across of the fire from the dwarf and set her pack down next to her before crouching low and hugging herself, so thankful to be next to a warm fire that would keep her warm.

"It is nice to meet you, Ranog, and you as well Urson," she said and nodded towards the Feldûnost, "My name is Laana. I'm sorry for causing such trouble. I did not prepare for coming out in the wild like I did. Even now I regret my hasty decision." She stared into the fire as she spoke with a glazed expression still so confused in her mind and not knowing what her future held.

Post Re: Snow Way Out
OOC .::. Mind me joining? (:

Zantos liked the Beor Mountains, he really did. They had always seemed beautiful to him and held an air of mystery and adventure that he loved.

Today, however, things weren't to his greatest liking.

The mystery and adventure of the mountains was not subdued in any way, but he was growing weary of trudging across snow. It impaired his freedom to run and feel the wind whip his face. He looked up towards a pine tree. Maybe it'd be better to jump from tree to tree instead, he thought, smiling slightly.

His mood was hardly damped though. He was an adventurer and wanderer. He travelled across Alagaesia on a regular basis, as he found it gave him much to do along the way. Secrets were always being discovered, and he enjoyed every bit of it. The one thing that got to him at times, however, was the loneliness. It had been starting to get a bit depressing.

The cold had started to settle deep into his bones, and he shuddered slightly. Looking around, he noticed a small cave on the side of the mountain, very well sheltered from the storm. He trudged his way out of the snow and onto a hard, rocky surface, then jumped up onto a small crevice below the cave. He just made it, and nearly slipped off because of the momentum. He was about to look around to find a way to get to the cave when he noticed that the crevice seemed to have been disturbed by a human. There were traces that someone had moved snow around here, and very recently. He looked up again, wondering if they were inside that cave. How am I supposed to get up there? he wondered.

Feeling slightly inspired, he drew his twin swords and stabbed one into the mountain as hard as he could. When he pulled at it with his weight, it held, so he did it with the other and pulled the bottom one out. It was slow work, as taking out the swords was much harder than stabbing them in, but after a few minutes he was finally able to leap onto the mouth of the cave. Muttering a quick spell, the swords unhooked themselves from the mountain and flew into his hand. Slowly, he turned around to look inside the cave. He saw two figures inside, although he couldn't make them out very well as his eyes had not yet adjusted to the dark. "Hello?" he asked out loud.

Ranog looked at the human and said, "It was no problem miss. I'd hate to come outside tomorrow when the storm blows past and see ya frozen below me there. Also, its nice to meet ya Laana. I wouldn't worry too much about not being prepaired for thi mosst folks aren't. People don't normally believe the tales that are told about the snowfall and cold in these mountains. It gets colder here than most anywhere else in Alagaesia. What with the height of these mountains. No worries though we should be fine for the night." said the dwarf as he took a long puff from the pipe in his mouth.

There were a few more minutes of small talk, and soon the fire died down and the dwarf and feldunost were asleep. Neither could tell, but they felt like the human female was also sleeping when Ranog heard a quiet "Hello?" The dwarf immediately rolled toward the blanket laid out on the hard stone floor on which sat his many weapons. The dwarf came up with his mattok at the ready. He said, "Who goes there and what are you doing here?" in a gruff voice. Normally he would not overreact so much but he had not expected to have aanother visitor and had not placed any wards around himelf or his friends.

Laana smiled at the dwarf and fell backwards so that she was now sitting on the floor and made herself comfortable. She moved herself closer to the fire and used it as a focal point to look as she conversed with the dwarf. He was comfortable to be around and he let him do most of the talking as she listened. Soon enough the fire was all but out and she was asleep on the cave floor. She stirred on the ground as she heard voices but did not full awake until Ranog's words made sense in her mind. She sat up and rubbed her eyes, trying to get used to the darkness. She grabbed the hilt of her sword as she looked around the cave until she found the shadowy figure of a new person in the cave and reluctantly waited for him to respond to Ranog's question.

Zantos immediately sensed aggresiveness in the dwarf's voice(he could tell it was a dwarf, as his eyes had now grown accustomed to the dark), and immediately drew one of his blades, making sure it made the noise of steel against scabbard so he could hear, as well as the other girl sitting down. It was impossible to tell whether they were dangerous or not.

"I'm just a traveler, journeying across these mountains," he said. He took a step closer. "Is that a crime now?" he asked quietly, looking at the dwarf but keeping the girl in sight as well.

"No, no its not, but there is a problem, when you sneak up on a dwarf in the middle of a blizzard!" said the dwarf menacingly. He said, "Who are you, your name; not what you are doing?" asked the dwarf when he heard the slither of steel. The dwarf barked a short spell and a small red werelight appeared between the dwarf and the man. He looked somewhat different from any other human Ranog had seen. The dwarf also saw how calm the man was. If he had truly been trying to kill the dwarf and his friends, then he would be much more on edge, and he also could have done so before the dwarf had time to react. The only reason Ranog had heard the man was because the man announced his presence. Ranog allowed the ace to lower somewhat so it was not quite so threatening but still held it loosely so that at a moments notice he could defend himself.

Laana grimaced and moved her legs under her so that she was kneeling but kept quiet. Looking at the man, he did not look dangerous but she was still an amateur in such things so she could not accurately tell. The grip on her sword tightened and she pulled it a short length from her belt in preparation to defend herself if the need arose.

Zantos knew there was no consequence to telling the dwarf his name. "Zantos," he replied. "And sorry for barging in on you in the middle of the blizzard. Your cave is missing a sign outside of it that says it's taken by a dwarf. You live here or something?" he asked, resisting the urge to laugh and wondering if the dwarf would take offense at his words. Most likely he would; he seemed to have a great deal of pride.

Looking down, he saw that the girl had hardly moved still. He thought that perhaps she might be scared of him, so he decided to sheathe his sword again. "It's okay," he finally said. "I'm not here to cause any trouble."

Ranog narrowed his eyes at the man and said, "That is supposed to be funny eh? As a matter of fact, I live in Farthen Dur in the quarters of my clan. I am on a trip and happened to find this woman." said the dwarf as he frowned at the man. Then he said, "Well are you gonna just stand out there in the cold or are you going to come inside." said the dwarf as he barked a hort spell and the fire came back to life.

Laana let her sword go and it fell fully back into her sheathe. She continued to look at the man but raised her eyebrow at his words. He probably thought she was a mere child. She sighed and looked away from his as she sat back down flat on the cement. She moved herself closer to Ranog so the stranger would be opposite her and crossed her legs and folded her arms over her chest. She was fully awake now and rummaged through her bag until she pulled out her drawing pad and pencils. She looked towards Urson and put her pencil to the paper. The swirl of the fire played upon him and covered him in ghostly shadows that gave her inspiration to draw. She took her eyes off of him to look at Ranog. "Do you mind if I draw?" She asked and nodded her head at Urson and shrugged her arms full of drawing materials.

"Thank you," Zantos said, nodding his head in appreciation.

"I'm not ungrateful either," he said. "I would have froze to death out there, so if you need something doing, I'm here to help. Oh, and you two both know my names, so common courtesy dictates I should know yours too, right?" he asked, looking at them expectantly as he removed his pack and placed it on the ground next to him.

OOC .::. short, sorry.
