Avatar [Here Be Spoilers]
Has anyone seen the previews yesterday for Avatar? It's like this sci-fi movie where the army troops are fighting against these natives and one of the officers gets injected with the native's DNA and looks like them and everything! I think it looks incredible and I'm going to google more info online...I'm excited!

Re: Avatar
I'm pretty sure it's a separate thing, that's why they couldn't call the Avatar movie Avatar because of this other movie, so it's called The Last Airbender instead.
As for the movie Avatar, I don't know much else about it, so not sure if I'll see it or not. xD

I've been looking forward to this movie since Spring!!! It looks AMAZING!!!!!!! I cannot wait to see it!!!!!!!!! Ayeek I love sci-fi, and I researched this movie. Apparently it's supposed to be in 3D and is supposed to be amazing to watch, just 'cause of how the 3D was done and the effects and everything. And the plot looks pretty awesome too. Yay!!!

I don't know, this movie looks okay, but not great. Plus, it kinda pissed me off that they took the name from Avatar: The Last Airbender and they even used the same font! But whatever, I don't think I'll see this movie.

Yes, I heard about the 3-D part of it...on a commercial. I haven't been able to do any research on it...too little time to do so >.< But I love sci-fi as well, and it just makes me want to see it even more now too!!! And yeah, they didn't call it Avatar because of the TV series and besides, Avatar must have a meaning behind it otherwise they might have picked something else.

Yes, there is certainly a reason behind calling the movie 'Avatar', I could tell you but I might be spoiling a tiny bit of the movie..
And you know... James Cameron already had the idea for this movie around 14 years ago..! So saying he "stole" the title from the TV show Avatar is ridiculous! *looks angry towards Sokka*

well avatar is an english word, so naming something avatar isn't automaticaly copying avatar the last airbender.

Um, actually... the word "avatar" is derived from Sanskrit, a language spoken in India. It's pronounced differently than the way we Americans would say it. People think it's English when really they're just mispronouncing a word in a totally different language.

I saw the commercial. It said it was like a cross of star wars, titanic, aliens, and another movie i can't remember. Looks good. I want to see it. Just as bad as New Moon.

I've seen a trailer, but it didn't really make much of an impression on me. So I doubt I'll see it, especially since we were just at the theater last week.

Well, it depends on what kind of movie you prefer. This movie is more sci-fi from the trailers and previews I've seen, and the Prince of Persia movie seems more adventurous and captivating. I'd personally prefer seeing Prince of Persia, but that's just because it appeals to me more.
I'm not seeing this movie because it stole Avatar: The Last Airbender's name! Besides, I'm not really into sci-fi movies, unless they're scary.

Chill, if he had the idea 14 years ago, why didn't he release it then or at least any time other than now? Smart thinking, Cameron...

Well the technology wasn't that advanced to even make the movie at that time.. Not the way he wanted to at least.. He's been working on this movie for 4 years or so now I believe it was..

Besides, names are used off and on all the time! People don't realize that they are stealing it some of the time either! For example, I thought I made up a few words about my story, and it turns out they were already invented like the word "Aquilon" apparently that's part of a prophecy with Aquila in the bible or something >.< But not everyone steals names because they're doing it on purpose. And like Kotor said; the movie itself is all that really matters anyway, that the content will determine its worth.

This argument is irrelevent. We should try to stay on topic. lol
But yeah, he said that he came up with the idea over a decade ago, but the technology wasn't advanced enough for him to do it.
And James Cameron was the director of those movies, kvista. That's why it was listing them.

If you understand what the trailer is saying, then you'll understand why it is call Avatar. Or I could just tell you, since it is in the trailer

If you interested in this movie, you might want to check out IGN's rewind theater for it. Basically they slow the trailer down and point certain things that you might have missed out.

The small font contains 2012 plot spoilers! You were warned.
I just heard it was nothing like the story it's supposed to be based on. And also that the plot in general was a wee bit silly considering the timescale.
(I had to agree, I really don't see OUR governments building "Arcs" strong enough to withstand a flood strong enough to put Mount Everest in CHINA at any point during the next three years. I don't even think we have alloys strong enough for that at this point. Or probably at any point. I mean, if it can move Mount Everest... What if Mount Everest hit the Arc?).
But I heard the effects in general were pretty great, so I think I'd still like to see it.
But this is off topic, soo...
Yeah, the Avatar movie ;O It still looks awesome Can't wait to see it ^____^
http://avatargame.uk.ubi.com/ this is the official site. It looks like it's going to be an RPG. The graphics look pretty good, and I think it'll have a good plot (provided you enjoy the plot of the film)

There's a game? Well, now that's just crazy. Why isn't it enough to just stop at the movies? It's better if they make the game [i]before[i] they make the movie, like they did for eragon. that was a cool game. If they did it the other way around it might have been as bad as the movie itself. But back on track, I still think the game was a bad idea. However, you don't have to listen to me. I'm just stating my own opinions.

Yeah, I think I might see this too now. It's looking more interesting... I like James Cameron's movies, and I just found out one of my favorite actresses is in it. ^_^ (Sigourney Weaver) Yeah, I think I will.

Really? PS3 plays DVDs too? Are you positive? Cause if so, I completely take that back! I want one now!!! Grr, they only advertised the Blu-ray, and it said nothing on the box or any ad that it played DVDs. But if it does, that's awesome!
And they make games for like every action/sci fi movie. So it's not weird that they're making one for Avatar. I haven't seen anything about the game, but I think it'd be fun to play, just for the awesome environments and plot.

But PS2s are like $50-$70 now for used and >$100 new.
I didn't know Sigourney Weaver, she's one of my favorites too, though Kate Beckinsale is my top actress. But just because they have my favorites doesn't mean I'll go see. I take that back, if it has Will Smith, I'm for sure seeing it. But I focus more on plot lines, and if it is a sequel or something, how well it relates to the other ones.

It would, but I don't think that it will be humans again, especially since the navi know how to deal with them, I am banking on a sect of the Navi turning and trying to destroy the other Navi and trying to kill the spirit tree, in that one, I think that all the stars of this first one will die and their descendants will live on and fight. That, or Jake and Neytiri will have to go on their own adventure to ind some old relic to fix everything.

Eh, I don't want them to kill off any of the characters they've started building up. I like them too much. Besides, I don't think the actors would appreciate that. lol
And also, there are two sequel ideas that Cameron claims to have, so a lot can happen yet. I just hope he goes through with them and makes them!

Well it may have been successful, but ot be truly successful (ie, for him to think of making any more movies) it has to break the $500 million mark. It cost 5 mill to make, so there should be profit to make him even think of making any ther movies. Because who would want to make any movies if they arent going to get any money from it?

I am sure they will bring in enough to make more movies, because I have seen it twice, in two different states, once in Tennessee, and once in Alabama, and both times people had to stand because of no sitting room, and that is not to mention the larger states with more population, they should get that much and more. Also, they have more than 650 million, so it is a HUGE success.

Man that was annoying standing a line for like a half an hour just to get the tickets >.> I didn't even get any food because I was going to miss the movie! But, it was great. I really hope they don't make any sequels, it ended perfectly

I've seen it three times now, and I still think it's an amazing movie!! I've seen them in IMAX 3D all three times, and every time there was an applause after it ended (I actually started the applauding two times though xD )

I think no matter how many times you see, it will still be amazing. I would go see it again (probably not in 3D) but I just don't feel like standing in the lines!

So I went to see it today and it was amazing no lie I love it. I want to see it again and I think it might even get better lol. I hate how crowed it was I had annoying people who talked the whole time I almost yelled at them hopefully its less crowded next time I wanna see it again tonight haha. I thought the concept was great and they did very well on making it.

Yes, it doesn't need a sequel, but this world was far too amazing to only have one movie in!

Re: Avatar
Does the movie take place on Earth? Because yesterday on some channel I saw the making of the movie, like how they did the scenery with greenscreen and how they based the blue creatures' facial expressions off of those of their actors'. It was pretty cool, but I noticed the setting was unique. Does anybody have an answer?

Nope, the movie's based around planet in the Alpha Centauri star system. (which is the closest star to us besides the sun, around 4 light years away)
I'm going to go see this tomorrow or something. I heard the graphics were out of this world (heh heh heh) and the story was mediocre. :/

Re: Avatar
Well, technically it takes place on a moon of a planet in the Alpha Centauri system. It's called Pandora, and based on what I saw in the movie, the planet it orbits is a blue gas giant. Which was very pretty, since it took up a big chunk of the sky and looked all awesome.

Re: Avatar
Pandora is amazing the creatures are so unique and everything glows at night. I wish I could live there. The people there remind me of Native Americans just because of their relationship with the planet. I loved it and I honestly was really sad at the end of the movie because I wish I could be one of them =(

Re: Avatar
Great movie, as for the name Pandora... It actually fits the planet quite well as the majority of the environment is hostile to humans. You should go to the official site to watch the trailer if you want to know more, as it gives a lot of background on the planets logistics from a human point of view.
