 Re: Blood Magic
Zeke nodded hesitantly, a nervousness settling in the pit of his stomach that he wasn't used to. He inclined his head respectfully to Chief Kasiya as she approached. The nervous ball in his abdomen seemed to grow in intensity as he followed behind the Chief to the base of a rectangular platform. He stood on Kasiya's right flank with his neck bowed into a soft C shape. Taylia caught his eye and grinned encouragingly, her bright lapis-lazuli irises glittering. His lips quirked in a tiny return smile before he returned his attention to the Chief.OOC: If you need to godmod him at all for the ceremony, its fine with me.

 Re: Blood Magic
OOC: Ayeek I cannot believe I forgot about this one! SORRY!!!!! IC: Phalynx bent her neck forward eagerly, watching as the ceremony began. A hush fell over the crowd as Kasiya stepped away from Zeke and onto the rectangular platform. She moved around the half-circle table and took her place at its head, the Elders all giving her respectful dips of the head. When the Chief was in position, she beckoned Zeke forward with a nod of her head. Phal knew she would also be sending him the mental impression of what he was to do. Indeed, he got onto the platform and walked until he was at the center of the half-circle. Kasiya raised her head to face the crowd. The dragon who stands before you today is already Marked for his deeds. He has shown himself to be a valued friend to us, and one the Tribe will always be grateful for. Tonight, he will be Marked again, this time for a deed that we will never be able to repay him fully for. Zeke Blindscale, you faced Leurgan with us when he was directly hurting our Tribe members, declaring war on us. And despite tragic losses, you stood strong with us. And now, you have destroyed him. Leurgan was a hated enemy of our Tribe, but thanks to this brave dragon, he is no more! at this Kasiya gave a pause as the crowd gave a multitude of assenting and celebratory roars. For this service to our Tribe, yet another display of the most sincere and valuable kind of friendship, Zeke will receive a new Kallek Mark. Zeke, please crouch low and extend the uppermost part of your wing-arm, the Chief went on, her eyes shining as she praised the amethyst-colored male. Phal grinned as she did. The Chief had actually told her where Zeke was to receive this new Mark. She watched as the painter ascended the platform. OOC: The Mark will wrap around his wing-shoulders and the half of his wing-arms closest to his body (picture it on our shoulders and upper-arms for a human version, but it's with his wings). You can rp that part.

 Re: Blood Magic
OOC: 'Tis alright. Honestly, I forgot about it, too. And I'll uh, get around to Past History...Sometime...Sorry, been busy lately.IC: Zeke moved automatically as Chief Kasiya sent him images of what he was to do. Once he was within the half-circle, he dipped his head and listened to the Tribe leader praise him. His face heated up but he stayed silent. True he had done those things, but it was just within his nature to help others. To have turned his back on the Tribe and simply stayed with his grandfather would have been...He couldn't even think about what would have happened if he ignored Temias's call for help. He shook his head minutely and came back to the present just in time to hear Kasiya's request for him to crouch and spread his wings to bare his wing arms. He did so, lifting a foreleg to allow him more movement. He angled his wings slightly forward into a loose half-circle to allow the Painter better access to his wing arms. He almost shivered at the first stroke of the brush, but stilled the tremors so the Marks would be symmetrical on each wing. It took several long minutes for the Marks to be finished, what felt like an eternity to the amethyst male. When the Painters stepped back, he was astonished. The Marks wrapped around the very top of his wing arms, almost touching his shoulders, and came half-way up his mainstay. They were amazingly beautiful. He turned his gaze to Chief Kasiya, a questioning gleam in his eye of what he should do now.OOC: Gah...Did I describe that right?

 Re: Blood Magic
OOC: Get to it when you can, lol. I've been busy too... And you described it nicely. IC: Phal watched as the painter went to work. She knew how important it was that the Marks be perfectly symmetrical. She had learned that, when she received her first Marks; if exact symmetry was not reached, the power of the Kallek Marks would not work. When the painter finished, Zeke stood and his new markings were revealed in full. They wrapped around his upper wing-arm and around the wing-to-body-joints as well in a neat swirling pattern. Phal liked the swirling Kalleks. They looked so elemental, but flowed with amazing beauty and grace. Chief Kasiya smiled down at Zeke and gave the painter an approving nod to dismiss her. Zeke, your newest Kallek Marks show you to be a trusted ally of the Tribe; one who has shone us loyalty and friendship that we did not ask for. We will return this friendship to you and all those you trust. When you have need of us, we will help you. You will always have a place here, a place to feel welcome. For all you have done, we thank you, she finished, lowering her head in an elegant bow of gratitude and closing her eyes briefly. The Elders around her did the same, all smiling warmly. Now, let the feast begin! the Chief announced brightly, eyes sparkling. She turned to Zeke. You may take the seat of the guest of honor, tonight, she said, gesturing with one wing to a gap to her left.

 Re: Blood Magic
Zeke was startled when Chief Kasiya bowed to him in gratitude, along with the other Elders. His jaw would have dropped, but that would have looked comical. So he simply settled for looking taken aback. The scales of his face heated up and darkened slightly red. If he'd been human, he would have been blushing crimson from his neck to the roots of his hair. He snorted softly and lifted his head as he padded around the table to sit on his haunches at Chief Kasiya's left side. He glanced up at Taylia with a gleaming twinkle in his icy blue eyes. The lavender-blue dragoness winked at him before turning to her food.
OOC: I think I'll bring Zephorion back in my next post.

 Re: Blood Magic
OOC: Oo!!! And you have to reveal what he found/was looking for! IC: Phalynx laughed at the look of embarrassment on Zeke's face. Even though he was facing away from the crowd, now, she could see the signs. She remembered when she had stood before the Tribe to receive her Kallek Marks. She had been humbled by Kasiya's words of praise, and had wanted to cry out at several points "I was only doing what I thought was right, to the best of my ability." They made it sound like she did heroic things every other day. As the amethyst stepped to his place as the guest of honor for the night, the silver tucked into her meal. Delicious-looking places had been set for each dragon on the stone tables. Each setting had a generous helping of roasted wildebeest (she had learned of those creatures on her first visit; they lived on the savannahs to the north of the Burning Sun Sea and were only caught for feasts), as well as more specially-prepared bird meat of some kind. It seemed to have numerous spices added in for flavor. Along with that was a sampling of jungle fruit, which Phal had been surprised to enjoy. The Tribe knew how to have feasts, that was for sure.

 Re: Blood Magic
OOC: lol Okay, okay. But I'm still trying to figure out what in the world it is in the first place. I have no clue.lol
IC: Zeke's embarrassment quickly faded away as he enjoyed his meal. His tongue would never be the same now that he'd tasted such delicacies. He even enjoyed the fruits, to his surprise. His favorite was the bird meat; so deliciously spiced, he almost wriggled in delight at its flavor. He prummed contentedly, closing his eyes. His wings tingled where the new Marks now sat, but he was used to it from his other Marks. This was what he wanted. Peace. Prosperity. Surrounded by friends. He sighed softly and opened his eyes once again. The Tribe was safe now. Leurgan and his brother were dead now. The Nagrel might cause some problems, but without their master they were like lost sheep, easily routed and kept at bay. The amethyst lifted his head as he felt a familiar presence coming closer. At the entrance he saw his grandfather standing, watching the Tribe with a strangely proud smile on his face.
He wanted to get up and go to the Namer, but the faded indigo met his gaze and shook his head minutely. His ice blue eyes narrowed but he dipped his head, tilting it slightly in silent query. He grinned as Zephorion sighed, then felt his mental touch. Later, little fledgling. You remember the talisman I told you of before? I found it. he relayed shortly, then pulled away. Zeke snorted softly and went back to eating, though he flicked his tail in Phal's direction. His grandfather understood. Yes, she may know. I believe it may concern her as well. he said. He nodded and touched the star silver's mind privately. Zephorion has something to show us after the feast. He said it may concern you as well as me. he told her.

 Re: Blood Magic
OOC: lol you'll figure something out. Take your time. Oh, and I'm not sure if I ever told you this, but I should since you're using Zephorion in this one: Zephorion is actually blind. He can only actually see things when he has visions of the future or when others are letting him use their sight. That's one of the things about him that's different from Zeke lol. Just thought you should know in case you didn't lol. IC: Phalynx savored the delicious meal. She had never had time to prepare any meals like this before. In fact, if she did anything to what she ate, it was just a quick roasting. During the feast, she spoke with Temias, Caela, and Arkior. Taylia piped in as often as she could, and she and Caela's brother joined in occasionally. Eventually, the silver sensed a new dragon arriving, and she twisted her head around. She couldn't see him fully, but if she looked through the dragons in the amphitheater and the stone structure itself, she could see the large form of Zephorion. A short time after she noticed him, Zeke contacted her. So he succeeded? I'll come straight down after I finish eating, she replied, and then took faster bites. When other dragons started finishing, they would pass the remains of their meals down an assembly line of the others. The dragons on each end would throw the leftovers into chutes that ran to storage bins. Caela had told her that these would mostly be preserved in the food stores or spread out in the jungle for scavengers. Eventually, when over half of the dragons had completed their meals, neat piles of bones and a few meat scraps were passed down the line. When the dragons further toward the center from Phal had finished passing down their food, she quickly got up and hastened down one of the walkways.

 Re: Blood Magic
OOC: Oh, thanks. I wasn't entirely sure or not if he was blind or could see, like Jia.
Zeke chuckled lightly at Phalynx's response. He smiled and continued eating at the food before him until it was nearly completely gone. He'd been hungrier than he originally thought. Once the Tribe dragons began filing out, he politely stood and waited for the Elders and Chief Kasiya to pass before coming up at the back. He quickly found Zephorion, still standing at the entrance. The indigo ignored the awed looks some of the younger hatchlings shot in his direction, though his pale green eyes twinkled merrily. He saw the Namer dip his head to each of the Elders and Kasiya. Once the amethyst came to him, he smiled. Congratulations, Blindscale. he said, and chuckled softly. Zeke snorted in embarrassment and changed topic. What is it that you want to show me and Phalynx? he asked. His grandfather turned around and headed for a single story building. Come. This is not for all eyes to see. he said simply. Zeke ground his teeth, sighed, and followed.

 Re: Blood Magic
Phalynx hopped down the final steps, eager to hear what Zephorion had to say. When she made it to the bottom of the amphitheater, the ancient, faded-indigo was stepping away toward a low stone building. Zeke was following quickly after, obviously intent on finding out what was going on as well. The star-silver hastened her steps until she was trotting after them. She swiftly caught up to them and peered into the building ahead, her intense curiosity overriding all other feelings. That happened quite often, to her. Zephorion wakled inside first, and Phal followed Zeke into the gloom. The Tribe didn't bother lighting torches inside buildings when there were celebrations going on (not to mention their night vision was usually enough to navigate in dark places). She waited respectfully for the old dragon to speak, even though waiting was difficult for her.

 Re: Blood Magic
Zeke waited a bit impatiently for his grandfather to speak, but kept silent when he did. I told Phalynx that I had to leave earlier to search for something. began the Namer, his words coming slowly at first. I found it. he said. He bent down to a corner of the building and gingerly dragged out a rather good sized book. It was old, if the cracking leather binding and leather cover was any indication. He set the volume down on the ground before him and Phalynx. This is a small piece of history, a very small piece, from us. Truth Seekers and Soul Readers. Inside this volume is priceless information. And a talisman. I know not what it is exactly, but it is powerful. If activated, it gives any Soul Reader or Truth Seeker full control of his or her power, and a few unknown gifts as well. he said. I've had this in my possession for several decades now. However, it was stolen from me shortly before you came three months ago, Zeke. I've never been able to open it, and apparently neither could Leurgan. I found it with the hope that one of you could unlock its secrets. he said. Zeke was dumbstruck speechless. Before him was history of his kind. He couldn't believe it.OOC: Still have no idea what the talisman is. I was thinking that maybe Phal was the one who could open it.

 Re: Blood Magic
OOC: Okey dokey. lolIC: Phal stepped up with Zeke, waiting expectantly. At last, Zephorion pulled out an ancient tome, more ancient than any book she had seen, even the ones in Unity. Swirling around it were chains and ribbons of magic, obviously meant to keep it shut and prevent decay. Zephorion explained slowly what it was, and the silver's eyes widened in awe. This was an extremely important part of her history, of dragonkind's history! She wondered how Zeke felt about it, for it did pertain directly to him. She nodded slowly when the indigo finished, wondering if there was a way she could open it. Was she supposed to open it? Obviously someone was supposed to open that book. If it wasn't meant to ever be opened again, it would have been destroyed. She stepped forward and peered closely at it, examining it up and down its length. Behind the trailing streamers of magic that were almost like a cloak, she could see something powerful within it. She retracted her view to its surface, and noticed a strange image that appeared just beneath the cover. It was almost as if the cover had two layers, and the image was on the lower one. Phal could only see it in x-rays.
The image showed a dragon's paw, with one claw extended. Semicircles radiated out from the claw, almost like a stylized depiction of something giving off light. Around the image and at the borders of the cover was a rectangle, simply a line showing only in x-ray light. Phal wondered if that was the key to opening it; giving off light and touching it with a claw? But any dragon with light abilities could do that. However, no dragon could see in x-ray. Phal extended her mind to Zephorion and Zeke and showed them the image she saw. If it was meant for her, then the way to open it, giving off light, must be meant for her specifically. And there were a few types of light only she could give off. Phal began extending a claw toward the book, and paused, abruptly wondering why this picture could be meant specifically for her. Some of the Truth Seekers, like Zephorion, could probably see the future. Maybe they saw this very meeting.
Phal placed a claw delicately on the tome's surface, and flushed a great deal of energy into it. She began radiating tiny amounts of gamma radiation from the end of her claw. Suddenly, the magic of the book flashed and shifted, starting to swirl around her outstretched claw. She sent this image to Zeke and Zephorion as well. OOC: Heheh. Hope that was sufficiently dramatic. Feel free to open the book.

 Re: Blood Magic
OOC: That was awesome draco. IC: Zeke watched as Phal examined the book, his body nearly quivering with excitement. He knew she was studying the book in all her visions, and even he didn't know all of them. His eyes widened considerably at the image she showed him and Zephorion. Was this meant for her to open? He watched eagerly as the silver extended her claw toward the book as the image had indicated. He waited as she 'opened' the tome, almost holding his breath. He took a step forward when she showed the second image. Hesitantly, he lifted his paw and gingerly grasped the cover of the book between two of his talons. Slowly, he opened the tome. Something powerful stirred in the air when the book was fully open. He shivered as it slid down his spine, lingering oddly at the scar on the tip of his tail. He lit his eyes to try and see what was contained within the tome, but oddly his powers didn't work. He couldn't see what was inside. He sent a questioning thought to Phal, as she was the only dragon that could see.

 Re: Blood Magic
OOC: Maybe something to do with the Original Truth Seekers and Soul Readers? I'm starting to think that maybe the talisman is the fang of one of the Originals. That would definitely be significant.
EDIT: OI! Brain surge! Riddles that lead to the truth of the Past! Like this one;
Master of Truth, Seer of Soul. Be the sleuth, Pay the toll.
That could be on the first page, or something like that.

 Re: Blood Magic
OOC: Ah! I didn't see your edit! I will post now... IC: Phalynx felt the magic tingle through her as Zeke delicately lifted the cover. The magic suddenly burst to life, flashing and swirling around them for a few moments, before settling back into its original pattern. As preoccupied as she was with the magic, she wasn't even looking at the book. Zeke's questioning thought brought her attention back to it. She linked her mind with the two dragons' once more, letting them see through her eyes. As her gaze returned to the open page, a few lines of writing could be seen. The verse wasn't long, but to her it read like a riddle. It said:
"Master of Truth, Seer of Soul. Be the sleuth, Pay the toll."
Phal looked over the lines. Any guesses on what it means? Or shall I flip the page? she inquired, her curiosity piqued.

 Re: Blood Magic
Zeke opened his mind to the silver's contact. The line on the first page sent chills down his spine. What could it mean? Out of the three of them, he was the one that fit the description in the riddle. He swallowed nervously. I think..it's talking about me. Between me and Zephorion, I'm the Master of Truth; Seer of Soul. And I think by 'Be the sleuth' means about my searching for knowledge of my powers. 'Pay the toll' might mean that...I must pay a price to learn the information I want. he said quietly. But what price? How did it mean? He pondered the riddle, rolling it around in his mind. Slowly, still hesitant, he lifted his left forepaw up to his mouth. He bit into the soft underside flesh of his paw with one fang. The small hole beaded with blood. He lowered his paw down onto the page, placing the wound directly over the riddle. The affect was instantaneous. White light glittered around the edges of his paw, as if he covered some sort of light source. His paw tingled. When he lifted it, the injury was healed with no traces of a scar. There was no sign of blood on the paper. The words had also changed,
"To one of pure descent the book is always open. Read further if you dare, Soul Reader, Silver Star, for what you see may not be always the utter truth as you think it."
Zeke gaped. Silver Star. How in the name of all his draconic ancestors did the book know about Phalynx? He looked up at her sharply, bewilderment in his gaze. That's impossible. Unless... he trailed off, glancing back down at the tome. Never mind that now. Yes, please turn the page. he said, answering Phal's earlier inquiry.

 Re: Blood Magic
OOC: Hmm. I think I'll leave what is written in the book up to you, unless there's anything you think I should come up with for it. IC: Phal blinked as the magic swirled brilliantly around Zeke's outstretched forelimb, sealing up the small wound and altering the very nature of the book. The words changed, and to Phal it seemed almost like a greeting mixed with a warning about continuing. She frowned as it mentioned a name she was widely known by: Silver Star. She glanced toward Zeke and saw an expression of faint confusion after his quick exclamation of surprise. The book was addressed to both of them, it seemed.
If this were true, it would mean whoever wrote it had to have seen the future. And the fact that it addressed both of them together must mean there was some sort of linkage between her and the Truth Seekers. Perhaps this very book would unravel some of those mysteries. She nodded to Zeke and carefully lifted the next page, cautious about damaging the book even though she knew there were many layers of protective magic surrounding it. When the next pages were revealed, Phal's eyes widened as she began her examination.

 Re: Blood Magic
OOC: Meh...My mind is a complete blank. >.< Hmm...Did you ever mention Zephorion's parents and/or siblings, and would they still be alive in the present, either in flesh or in Soul? I might have an idea concerning them...(I'll wait for your answer before I go into my idea.)
IC: Zeke studied the next page carefully, the last pages content still lingering at the forefront of his mind. He didn't know how it was possible, unless whoever had written this book had had the gift of foresight. Finally he made himself focus on the tome. This information could be priceless and irreplaceable.

 Re: Blood Magic
OOC: I don't think he has siblings but if you have something cool in mind then he could lol (I've never mentioned his family much before). As for his parents, they're almost certainly dead at least physically but their Eldunari may still exist. I hope you don't mind if I make something up for the book just to have substance in my post (it's actually related to a new idea I've come up with).IC: Phalynx frowned as she beheld the next two pages. There was scant text on both, at least in the visible light, but she could see something behind that. Written in ultraviolet-reflecting ink, actually, which was exactly what light the Kallek Marks on her wings now shone in. The ink even looked like the Kallek paint, and had the same sort of magic. She guessed it was from the same crystals which the Tribe now used for the paint. The odd thing was that, since it was in the uv, it was obviously meant for someone who could see this form of light (that is to say, her). She began reading, forgetting for the moment that Zeke and Zephorion could not see what she could: "When starlight gathers, the spirits in the stars will leave their realm, and their twin hearts both light and dark shall be born." When Phal drew her gaze to the visible text she saw the same phrase repeating on the first page: "light and darkness light and darkness light and darkness..." She was struck silent, shocked and unsure what to make of what she had read.OOC: Hope that's sufficiently epic for now.

 Re: Blood Magic
OOC: Hmm...okay. I shall have to think more about my idea then, refine it a bit. And yes, that is fine. XD I honestly have no idea of what might be in this tome, and you know the Truth Seekers/Soul Reader's pretty much as good as I do, suggestions are welcome. IC: Zeke looked up at Phalynx, noticing that she grew quiet. He eased into her mind just enough to see what she had, then pulled out. He mulled it over for a bit, then tilted his head and looked at his friend. What do you think it means, Phal? he asked. Zephorion grunted, discontented that he was out of the loop. Zeke brushed his grandfathers mind, sharing with him the words that Phalynx had seen with her special vision. The indigo rumbled in his chest, thinking to himself.

 Re: Blood Magic
OOC: Okey dokey. The thing Phal read is mainly something scribbled in there specifically for her, but I'll try and come up with some stuff for your charries as well. Also I realized this was the perfect rp for those lines cuz Dark Destiny occurs right after this (in my timeline lol). IC: Phal stood silently for a while, uncertain of what to say. Finally Zeke asked what she thought he meant, and she realized he had looked through her mind to find out what she was staring at. She shook her head slowly. I'm not sure, but it was meant for me, whatever it was. It looks like it was written in haste, actually, so it must have been added in after the rest of the book was written. And since it was added on one of the first pages, it must be important, to me at least, she replied. After thinking about it, that was all she had gleaned from what seemed logical. She was slightly startled when the huge head of Zephorion suddenly lowered itself toward the book. The ancient indigo rested his muzzle on the page, blind eyes closed, and stayed motionless for a few moments. With a slow nod, he lifted his head back to its normal position above the two smaller dragons. It is a prophecy. An old one. And it has already come to pass. That is all I know for sure, but I will think more on it, young ones, Zephorion spoke calmly. Phal nodded. The words did read like a prophecy (not that she had heard many before), cryptic enough so that it would only have meaning when whatever it was speaking of occurred. Phal saw that there was nothing more to read on the page, and so turned to a new one. OOC: Like I said, I'll start thinking of other things for the book to contain. Maybe we should pm about ideas so as not to clog this thread with more OOC chat lol.

 Re: Blood Magic
OOC: Very well, and thanks. XD
IC: Zeke pursed his lips, wondering at the prophecy. He glanced at Zephorion, curious if the indigo knew anymore than he was saying, but then in the same thought disregarded the idea of his grandfather keeping information that might be important from him and Phal. His grandfather would never do such a thing. He waited for the silver to turn the page, and then he stiffened. A tendril of magic extended out and found his soul, latching onto him with the strength a ten dragons; unmoving, iron hard. He gasped at the feeling and tried to move, but found he could not. A voice entered his mind. At last, young Soul Reader, you have come. it rasped, obviously very old. He couldn't tell if it was male or female, though. He could feel whatever it was extend out to touch Phal's mind as well. And you as well, Silver Star. Both of you have come at last. I am Xephran, great-great-great-great-grandfather of Zephorion, great-great-great-great-great-great-grandfather of you, Zeke Blindscale. Do not ask how I know this, the story is far too long and not for today. Sadly this is only a memory of myself speaking to you that I have implanted into this tome with powerful magic, for both my flesh and my Heart have probably been destroyed by now. Or perhaps not, and we still have the opportunity to meet. This I doubt, however, and I digress. rumbled Xephran. I am the first Truth Seeker. The reason? Merely some experimental magic gone horribly wrong. here the ancient male chuckled. Ha, you wish, dear one. No, truly I do not have a reason for why I have these powers of foresight. I was born with this ability. However, my father had no such powers, neither did his father, nor his. It started with me.

 Re: Blood Magic
Phalynx's eyes widened when the tendril of consciousness reached her, though she could sense it wasn't a true consciousness, more like the echo of one. As the dragon began, she found herself leaning in closer to the book without realizing it, hanging on every word of this ancient creature. Ancestor of Zephorion and Zeke, now speaking to them. When he finished, Phal was silent for a few moments. As usual, she felt the familiar flood of questions rise up within her, but she knew respectfulness would be supremely important here. This was a truly ancient dragon, from times long past. Would a memory of a dragon even be able to answer questions? She hesitated, unsure if she should try asking and waiting to see if Xephran would continue. She also couldn't help but wonder when he had lived, what the world had been like. Had he been around before the founding of Unity three hundred thousand years ago? Had he lived in the time of the dragon clans, or after?

 Re: Blood Magic
The memory of Xephran chuckled lightly. It seems that my vision was correct. Dear Silver Star, I saw that you would have questions, and I can sense them tumbling inside your heart. In this memory, I put in all of myself, so, more or less so, I still am very much alive, as long as this implantation survives. Ask what you may, both of you. And you as well, Zephorion. he invited.
OOC: I'm considering having Xephran have been born during the time of the Great Dragon, but say like he was very young, maybe a century or two old, perhaps less.

 Re: Blood Magic
Phal laughed, glad that this "memory," or whatever it was, could be conversed with. Maybe she could even converse with it on the same level as she would have been able to talk with Xephran himself. Well you saved me from having to ask, myself. Anyway, I would love to know more about you, personally, like when you lived and what the world was like in those days. And I'm sure all three of us would like to know more about your powers and any speculation you have about them, she queried, deciding to begin with those more general questions. Hopefully, in answering them, Xephran would answer other, more specific ones that the silver had thought of asking. As she spoke, she examined the magic around the book. It was very powerful now, and its appearance reminded her of an Eldunari. She supposed that only made sense, considering this was, basically, this ancient dragon's essence.

 Re: Blood Magic
Xephran chuckled lightly, and the tone in his voice seemed to indicate that he was smiling. Of course, young one. For starters, I was hatched near the end of the Great Dragon's reign. He passed on to wherever he is now when I was roughly a century old, which was also when I met the love of my life, Ciandra (See-ann-druh). The world in those days was, for want of a better description, very peaceful. I believe I implanted a few memories of the forest that I and my mate claimed as our home, if you would like to see them. he offered. Zeke was intrigued; a dragon that had been alive when the Great Dragon was alive. If only for a short time. As for my powers, I regret to say I never really put much thought to them. he paused, and Zeke got the impression that Xephran was shrugging. They are a part of me, of who I am. I was curious as to why I had them and not any other member of my family, however. I have an idea of how I received them, but....Neither of you are ready for that answer. And that includes Zephorion. Xephran said with a light chuckle.

 Re: Blood Magic
Phalynx's eyes widened as Xephran told them that the first years of his life were during the reign of the Great Dragon. He had lived at a time near the dawn of their kind, then, a prospect that intrigued the silver to no end. I would love to see those forests. And maybe you could tell us more of your mate and family, if that's alright, she replied eagerly, excited to see the land as it once was. At his next words, she couldn't help feeling strong disappointment. He probably had a point when he said they weren't ready for such information, but that didn't stop Phal from wanting to know. Curiosity was one of her innate driving forces, and unanswered questions almost made her physically itch.OOC: So are you going to reveal Xephran's idea? 'Cause I'm pretty much as curious as Phalynx lol.

 Re: Blood Magic
Xephran chuckled, and then Zeke's mind was filled with the aerial view of a lush green forest with huge trees that seemed to go on for as far as the eye could see (and for a dragon that was a long ways). Mountains came up on the left, covered with green and snow-capped with pure white snow. It flickered and blurred, changing to another image of the same forest but in the throes of fall, with the trees a beautiful blend of gold, red, yellow, bronze, even orange, and still a hint of green here and there. Ciandra and me lived here for more or less our entire lives. I believe that the mountains I lived in are now called the Spine. During our two hundred and twentieth year of being mates, we had a clutch of three. Only two hatched, sadly, but it was the way of the world then. One male and one female. Xander was our son, Nyela our daughter. They both grew up and had children. Nyela had a daughter, and Xander had two sons. Nael, Xander's oldest son, had three sons of his own. Saal, his middle son, only had one hatchling. Zephorion. he said, and the last image of the forest covered in sparkling white snow that glittered in the sun faded from their minds.

 Re: Blood Magic
Phalynx smiled as her mind filled with glorious visions of the beautiful forest, her green eyes blinking and gazing off into space as if she was really there. The view was magnificent. This was Alagaesia as it had been, once upon a time. It seemed a world that was still untamed and free, perhaps even without Alagaesia's native two-legs, the dwarves. Xephran began to narrate the line of his descendents which eventually led to Zephorion, and Phal thought about his information. Did you witness the separation of dragons into clans, Xephran? And if you don't mind my asking, was Saal the red or blue parent? she asked, curious about the faded indigo's past and lineage. It seemed she was getting more tied into the affairs of Zeke's family (not that she minded, being a good friend to many in his family).

 Re: Blood Magic
Xephran's chuckle was deep. If he had chuckled physically, Zeke was sure he would have felt it resonate in his chest. He smiled at the thought. I did indeed, young one. I saw the joining of the Clans as well, with the mating of Phealis and Zefanrac as well as the hatching of Aeraldi. And Saal was the red parent. The name of his mate, of the Blue Clan, was Jina (G-nuh). She was a beautiful one. Most dragons of the Clans were one solid color, but somehow Jina was a darker blue than her Clanmates. A dark enchanting sapphire, if I remember correctly, her scales glittering like the jewel itself whenever she shifted in the sunlight, eyes like glittering pools of azure blue, talons and spikes as white as just fallen snow. he said. Zeke tried to picture her and found that he could.

 Re: Blood Magic
Phalynx continued listening as Xephran answered her questions, in awe of the dragon. He had witnessed so much... the time of the Great Dragon, the separation, and then the joining as Phaelis and Zefanrac became mates. The silver smiled warmly at the mention of her mate. His birth had been remarkable, but the dragon himself had proven that he could do even more with the rest of his life. As Xephran described Jina, Zephorion's mother, Phal tried to picture her as well, and kept imagining what the world would have been like back then. Zephorion had been born during the golden age of Unity, and his birth had heralded celebration, as he was the first child born of pure red and pure blue. Now, Unity was only a ruin of its former self. It would be a long time before it held more life again (one of Phal's personal goals was getting a bigger family and more friends who could potentially live in Unity with her immediate family, as the city seemed empty without more dragons). So when was this book written? And were you the last dragon to alter it? she asked, one of her other top-priority questions.

 Re: Blood Magic
Xephran paused as if thinking. I started this book after Xander and Nyela was hatched, but before Nael was laid. As for who altered it last....I think that might have been Saal. After putting all of my experiences into it and also implanting this memory, I passed it on to my son, and so on until it reached Saal, and eventually Zephorion. I regret to realize that it never went to Zephor. he said. Zeke noticed that Zephorion winced slightly at the mention of his son. The amethyst tilted his head slightly but didn't question.

 Re: Blood Magic
Phal nodded to herself, taking in Xephran's information as he relayed it with fascination. So few dragons had actually come into contact with this book. But why them? Why now? And who had written that prophecy at the beginning for her, the one in ultraviolet-reflecting ink which to most was invisible? She decided to try and ask a few of these questions. Do you know who wrote the ultraviolet-ink words on the last page? she began, thinking that was the most important question. She also wanted to learn how much the writers had known about her, since obviously her help was necessary in opening the book. She would ask that next.

 Re: Blood Magic
Xephran was silent for a moment. Then he sighed. I told him not to do that..... he muttered, more to himself than to the other three, if a memory could speak to itself. Xephran sighed. That would have been Nael. His powers were strange indeed. He saw truth not in people but in words. It depended on the person's true intent when they wrote what they did. If he gazed upon a sentence and it said one thing, he could sense in his gut, like a sixth sense, if it had another meaning. Nael himself didn't truly understand it. It was a part of him, like my visions and foresight are a part of me. Using this ability he was also able to write prophecy's and premonitions. I suppose he wrote that while in a trance of some sort. As for why he used that type of ink....That you will have to ask him, if you can get the chance. Though I think I might know why. he rumbled, and from his tone Zeke got the impression that he was scowling.

 Re: Blood Magic
Phal nodded, thinking over Xephran's words and especially his tone. Apparently he did not want that to be written in the book... but why? She couldn't really imagine why not, unless it was talking about something she (or anyone) wasn't supposed to know. Why shouldn't he have written that? And how much did you and the others know about me at the time? Or at least that someone like me would encounter this book eventually... she asked when no one spoke. She supposed Zeke might ask a few questions of his own eventually. Maybe he was still thinking of good questions to ask. This book was about he and his family, after all, so Phal kept glancing towards the amethyst-colored male to see if he would say something. Since he wasn't at the moment, she had decided to see if she could glean any information about herself for the time being (there was still quite a bit she didn't know, and it frustrated her to no end).

 Re: Blood Magic
Xephran sighed softly. Nael had a habit of doing things without thinking. You should not have seen that until you were older, for reasons that I will tell you later. And of course we knew of you, dear Phalynx. I had a vision of you when your half brother Faefnir was hatched. he said, and chuckled.

 Re: Blood Magic
The silver's tail twitched at Xephran's news, for she had mixed feelings on this piece of information. She understood that some things were better learned at a greater age, but her curiosity would not have allowed her to wait any longer if it had been a choice. She often felt as if she was ready for things, even if she actually wasn't... it had gotten her into no end of trouble. Maybe it was because she had spent so long in the egg: despite her level of immaturity, she felt like she was already an old dragon in some ways. She smiled when Xephran mentioned having seen a vision of her when her half-brother was born. You must be very old, then... the Great Dragon lived many hundreds of thousands of years ago... which is a very, very long time even compared to fifty-thousand years ago when Faefnir hatched, she remarked, thinking warmly of the huge golden dragon. Is there anything you can tell me, or Zeke and Zephorion, that you think we are actually ready to know? she asked with a laugh.

 Re: Blood Magic
Xephran chuckled at Phalynx. Yes indeed, I am quite old. And, perhaps there is. I saw a vision of your family and friends standing together against something. I will not mention some of them, for a few you have not actually met or discovered yet. But it is something that you will call your family together for. And it will be for Zeke. Xephran's voice shifted, and Zeke knew it was a prophecy that he was about to foretell.
On the ninth day of the one hundred and fiftieth year you will encounter a shadow thought destroyed from your past. It will rise up, more powerful than before, and destroy everything you love. When for at last you are completely alone, only then will it strike directly at you. For this you will need to stand firm though you may crumble. Blood will spill and Hearts will shatter. To defeat the foe the sacrifice must be made, and by no other than the Chief, and by no less than full willingness. But take to heart, warrior, for one of pure power does not stand alone. The silver star of the heavens will come to aid you in your greatest time of need, with the trailing of others behind her. All one must have do is to call the Name of the pure silver star that you require the help of.
Xephran seemed to come to himself again, and rumbled. I hate when I get prophesies while doing something or speaking to someone. he groused, and Zeke smiled at the image of the scowling ruby colored dragon that he saw in his mind. But the prophesy worried him. Not about the shadow, but about calling the Name of the silver star. The way that Xephran had said it made it sound like the True Name. He shook his head and quickly looked to Phalynx. It was obvious who the silver star mentioned in the prophesy was. I won't. No no no and no again. I won't look at someones True Name, unless it was absolute last resort to protect myself or someone I loved. I wouldn't even if they gave me permission to. No. I won't. I'd face whatever the shadow is before I even consider doing that to a friend. he said vehemently, his ice blue eyes sparkling with determination.

 Re: Blood Magic
Phal smiled as the dragon spoke, listening cheerfully as he talked about his age. Suddenly, he shifted the topic to one of prophecy and began uttering a prophecy himself. She knew this would be of crucial importance, and so listened to every word carefully, recording the event in her most carefully-held memories. When he finished, Zeke responded, speaking out against using her True Name. Zeke, this isn't for many decades to come, yet, apparently. When the date approaches, I will give you my Name willingly. If it is necessary for the safety of others, I will not hesitate, whether or not you want to use it, she told him firmly. If it was needed to help Alagaesia or even her friends and family, she would do anything. Letting Zeke know her True Name would not be much of a sacrifice. He had told her his and she figured that, by that time, they would be even closer friends, and she would certainly be able to trust him with it. This all sounds very dangerous, though... do you have any idea what the threat is, other than the fact that it's something we've faced before? she asked Xephran, even though he most likely did not. She began thinking of the many evils she had helped to vanquish over the years, wondering what could be waiting to strike.

 Re: Blood Magic
Zeke shook his head again more firmly, alarm in his eyes. I wouldn't ask that of anyone, not even my own mate, if I ever have a mate. he said, shifting from paw to paw uncomfortably and looking away from her. Xephran cut in. You won't have a choice. You will need her help, and only hers. Her powers will be needed to defeat the shadow once and for all. I don't know what you will be fighting, all I know is that when the time comes, both of you must trust each other completely. said the ancient ruby. Zeke mulled it over a bit, still unhappy about the prophecy. Xephran, if your Heart were still intact today, where do you think it would be? he asked. It would be so much better to actually talk to Xephran than just a memory of him. Xephran pondered it for a moment. Probably....at my old home, in the Spine. But it would not be likely. It was probably lost a long time, however. he rumbled. Zeke tilted his head but nodded. I would be happy to search for it. he offered, glancing at Phalynx. Zephorion rumbled in his chest. How did my father die? I never knew him. I was raised by my mother. he said somberly. Xephran hesitated.

 Re: Blood Magic
Phal nodded to Xephran. She would do anything necessary to stop evil. Zeke was a dragon she trusted, so she wouldn't mind giving him her Name. He could take it by force if he ever turned against her, so giving it to him by choice wouldn't make any difference (that was rather the cynical way to look at things, and she preferred not to view the situation in that light, however). When Xephran mentioned where his Eldunari might be, Phal listened, very interested. I wouldn't mind going on a search as well. It would be my pleasure to help find and safekeep the Heart of so wise a dragon, she remarked with a grin as Zeke glanced her way. Zephorion then spoke up, asking about his father. She felt Xephran's hesitation. Had something bad happened to him? OOC: Hehehe... I made a new family tree, just so you know. It includes everyone related to Zeke. I'll post it once a few more things are revealed.

 Re: Blood Magic
Zeke smiled at Phal, then glanced at the tome as Xephran hesitated. Beside him, Zephorion shifted uneasily. Finally the ancient male sighed. I had hoped you wouldn't ask, young one. he rumbled reluctantly. Saal was...he was killed by a Blue. Jina's older brother, actually. Naval, her brother, thought that Saal was playing Jina...so he made the first move, to protect her. Saal was taken by surprise and killed almost instantly. Jina disowned Naval after that and wouldn't let him be near you. he said slowly, as if the information was being pulled out of him. Zephorion stood silent for a long moment, then sighed. Suspicion was strong back then, even after I was hatched. It had probably happened before with other Joined Clans. he said. Zeke heard that he was trying not to let sadness enter his voice, so the amethyst ignored the saddened tone, simply nodded in agreement. Xephran cleared his throat and continued on. I don't know, however, if Saal transferred to his Eldunari or not. You could search for him I suppose. Saal is a part of you, a part of your family. If he is alive, you could probably feel him with your Heart Touch, Zeke. suggested the ruby. The presence of Xephran's touch fluttered like a dying birds heart. I must retreat now and recharge the magic that supports this memory. Farewell for now, young ones. he almost crooned, and then pulled away. Zeke staggered as he was suddenly alone within his mind again.

 Re: Blood Magic
Phal crooned gently, sad for Zephorion's loss, even though he had never known his father. It did make some sense, though. And who knew, perhaps Naval had found out about some power of Saal and hated him even more for it. Zephorion had told her that many dragons with his abilities or abilities similar to that were mistrusted, feared, and even killed for their powers. It didn't seem like that was Naval's primary motive but it could have been a factor. She shook her head, wondering why she was musing about all of this anyway. Xephran suggested to Zeke that he search for the Eldunari if it might exist. Phal glanced at him, wondering if he would try it. Then, Xephran spoke again, saying that he had to leave. Goodbye, Xephran. Thank you for your information. Perhaps we will actually speak to one another one day, Phal replied with a smile. A few moments later, the presense was gone from her mind and the magic had faded away. What are you going to do now, Zeke? she asked, glancing at the amethyst. There was much new information gleaned from Xephran, and possible things for the dragon to do were revealed as a result. Or perhaps he would continue looking through the book.

 Re: Blood Magic
Zeke pondered for a moment, then spoke. I don't honestly know.... he murmured, and looked down to the tome. He sat on his haunches, wings rustling. He closed his eyes and eased into his Heart Touch, searching for anyone that was related to him but that he didn't recognize. He searched for a long time, twenty minutes in the real world, before he found something. A faint glimmer, right on the edge of his reach. It felt like it was back at the Statue Chamber. He opened his eyes and looked at Phal. I felt something back at the Statue Chamber that I took you to. he announced. Zephorion perked up, then hesitated. Zeke smiled at his grandfather. Saal is your father, you would be welcome to come along. he said. The Namer smiled in return and dipped his head. I thank you, my son. he murmured, pale green eyes glittering.

 Re: Blood Magic
Phal watched Zeke closely, wondering what he would decide. He seemed to withdraw into himself, and she guessed he was using his ability to search. Eventually, his pale eyes opened and he relayed what he had discovered. The Statue Chamber? Interesting... It will be nice to visit that place again, especially if your great-grandfather is there, she replied with a smile, glancing toward Zephorion when Zeke said he could accompany them. Shall we go now then? she asked, wondering if there was any reason to wait. The Statue Chamber wasn't too far away from where they were.

 Re: Blood Magic
Zeke nodded and stood on all four legs. Yes, let's go now. he said eagerly. Zephorion stood as well and gently, as if it were a just hatched dragonling, he picked up the tome in his teeth. You two go on ahead without me. I'll put this tome in my cave and then catch up. he said. Zeke nodded and flared his wing, shifting his weight to turn around. By doing so he moved his left foreleg awkwardly and strained the muscles of his shoulder, which he had already injured while fighting the Nagrel. He limped a few steps, trying to swallow the whimper of pain. He shook himself then walk out of the building, gritting his teeth together as he tried to hide his limp. Zephorion glowered at him, hearing the slight off step in his gait, but didn't say anything about it. You can wait for me at the entrance or not, it's up to you. I know of where you speak. he said, and then padded away. Zeke shifted so that no weight was on his left foreleg, then lifted his wings to take flight. He launched into the air, wincing when it jostled his shoulder, but ignored the stabs of pain. He waited for Phalynx to join him in the sky, then beat his wings and moved off toward the Statue Chamber.

 Re: Blood Magic
Phal nodded respectfully to Zephorion as he headed off with the tome, saying that he would catch up with the two. She followed Zeke out of the room, watching his limp with concern and studying the apparent area of injury when he took off. She darted into the air after him, pulling the nearby natural magic to herself as she did. She transformed it as quickly as she could into healing magic and then wrapped the magic around Zeke's shoulder. It settled around the injury and did its work without her direction, for that was the nature of healing magic with wounds that weren't complicated. She grinned at Zeke. Feel better? she asked, green eyes sparkling. As she set off after him again, the sound of a third pair of wings caught her ears. She turned around to see Temias heading towards them.
Temias was talking to his friends Zikoma and Karusan, idling away the time and also enjoying the music that was now being cast throughout Kletowa. He suddenly noticed a pair of familiar shapes, one star silver and the other amethyst purple, fly out from a room in one of the buildings. He bid a hasty farewell to his friends and flapped off after them, curious about where they were going. Are you two leaving already, while the party's still going? Where are you headed? he asked, silver eyes drifting from one to the other when they stopped to look back at him. He hoped he wasn't intruding on anything, but he couldn't help being curious.

 Re: Blood Magic
Zeke darted a glance at Phal, his pupils narrowing, then he rolled his eyes and shook his head, a smile pulling his his muzzle. Yes, much. Thank you. he rumbled, his ice blue eyes glittering. He turned when she did to look back, and he couldn't help a grin when he recognized Temias. He smiled warmly at his friend. We are going in search of Zephorion's father, or his Heart anyway. Zephorion himself shall be joining us once he has finished with something; you are welcome to come along as well. he said, and chuckled lightly.

 Re: Blood Magic
OOC: Guess I'm not too tired to reply to this one lol. After this I'll go to bed. IC: Temias's eyes widened slightly in interest as Zeke explained what they were doing. Zephorion's father still lived? It was an odd concept, for the Namer was so old and had been such an enigma (until recently) that the blue had never really thought much about him having a father (although of course he knew the legend of the Namer being the first dragon born to pure red and pure blue). Thanks, and I think I will come with. This sounds exciting, he replied with a smile. His smile faded, though, as another thought came to him. I'm sorry if I'm a bit slow, though. I'm still recovering from my injury, or so Rasima tells me, he added sheepishly.Phal smiled at Temias, glad to have him along. It's fine, Temias. We would love to have you along with us. Now, I suppose we should be going. At least a short ways anyway since Zephorion will be joining us soon, she said cheerfully. She was excited to go back to the Statues, to examine them more closely. And she wanted to see the magic again... the magic of that place was so beautiful.

OOC: lol
IC: Zeke smiled at Temias then turned to continue flying forward, though at a slower pace so that his Tribe friend wouldn't have to strain to keep up. It's fine, my friend. Perhaps while at the Statue Chamber we shall see your statue as well. he said with a grin, ice blue eyes sparkling.
IC: *wrinkles nose* Bleh, short.

 Re: Blood Magic
OOC: How 'bout we just skip over most of the journey? Might enable some more lengthy posts lol. Zephorion can show up in your next post; that seems an appropriate length of time. IC: Temias smiled at Zeke as the amethyst mentioned seeing his own Statue. What would it be like? What would he find out from it? He shook his head in wonder, eager to see this place but also a little apprehensive of all it contained. What secrets would he discover if he continued with them? Well, of course there was no actual "if"--he was certainly going, but he was still uncertain of what he would find. So what is this Chamber really like? Do you think there are Statues of every dragon? And how much does it reveal about each dragon? he asked his companions as they flew, glancing between Zeke and Phal.Phalynx gladly slowed her flight speed to accomodate the still-recovering Temias, for she was happy to have her friend along. When he began asking about the Chamber, she grinned and showed him a brief image of a little of it. He gasped in amazement and watched her expectantly, but she merely laughed. That peek is all you're getting for now. It'll be more fun if it's a surprise, she told him with amusement. The three continued on for a few more hours, and Phal knew that soon they would arrive. They had been traveling at quite a relaxed pace, so Zephorion would have plenty of time to catch up.

 Re: Blood Magic
OOC: I agree. XD
IC: Zephorion peered out of the tunnel, grinning to himself. His mind cast out in search of Zeke and Phal, finding them quite close, and also feeling Temias with them. He chuckled and sent a welcoming bugle into the air. Zeke answered him. Catch up, my tail spikes! retorted the amethyst male playfully. Zephorion laughed, the sound deep and rumbling like an avalanche, but the meaning was not lost. I know my way around these mountains and have found a short cut or two in my day. he said with another laugh. The faded indigo male felt a rush of air and then the ground trembled slightly as Zeke landed on the ledge in front of the tunnel entrance. The amethyst huffed and stepped to the side to make room for Phal and Temias. Since you beat us here I take it you've been inside before? asked his grandson. Zephorion smiled and nodded. Yes, I have been inside before. It's how I got that lash burn on my right hind flank; a finger of that hand touched me and scorched the scales away. he said, and chuckled. He turned his head to Phal and Temias and raised an eyeridge. Ready? he asked, though he knew it was probably unnecessary. He grinned and turned, padding down the tunnel briskly. An involuntary shudder went down his spine as he smelled the metallic blood on the walls, but he did his best to ignore it.

 Re: Blood Magic
Phal laughed when she saw that Zephorion was already waiting for them. No doubt he knew most of the shortcuts in these mountains, judging by the length of time he'd been living in them. She landed neatly on the ledge beside Zeke as he made room for her and then scooted to the side for Temias. Though the midnight-blue male was a year younger than she, he was still larger. She wasn't exactly the most bulky dragon around. She smiled up at the Namer when he asked if they were ready and nodded. Of course. I am eager to see this place again, she replied, following in after them.
Temias followed after Zephorion, Zeke, and Phalynx, taking up the rear position of their group as he landed on the ledge. He was glad they were done traveling for now, as well. His recent injuries had caused him to become more tired after the few hours of flight than usual, and he knew he would need some time to recover. However, he couldn't pass up this chance. He smiled happily as they began heading for the Chamber, eagerly anticipating what he would see.

 Re: Blood Magic
Zephorion led them through the blood tunnel until they neared the ledge of the lava stream. He snorted lightly and turned his head to look at Temias. If you decide to fly over, Temias, watch the heat swells. They can easily batter you into a wall if they catch you unawares. If not, then you can use the columns to jump. I, myself, shall use the columns, because it has been a while since I did anything truly physical. he said, and grinned wolfishly. He turned ahead and opened his mind fully, feeling his surroundings around him to the extent that he could almost actually see, with the only difference being that he couldn't see in colors. He crouched, bunched his muscles, and sprang forward with a push of his haunches. he landed lightly on a column and used his forward momentum to keep himself going. He paused halfway briefly to catch his breath before going again. he landed finally on the opposite ledge and turned back to see Zeke doing the same with a silly grin on his face. The Namer laughed at his grandson while he huffed for air and rested. It appears that this is what you attempted the first time you came here? he teased. Zeke gave him a sour look but grinned a moment later, rolling his eyes. Yes, it so happen to be that I did. mumbled the amethyst. Zephorion eyed the lava far below them, wary. He knew he most likely didn't need to as Phalynx to keep an eye on it, but it still made him cautious.

 Re: Blood Magic
Temias nodded to the Namer and offered a small smile. I will be careful. I'm not ready to risk another injury just yet, he replied, waiting for the huge dragon to cross the columns and then for Zeke. He tensed his muscles and leapt into the air, letting himself glide directly over the columns on the hot thermals. He focused most of his attention on his wings, making constant small adjustments and concentrating on the air currents in order to keep from being battered or jolted. He landed on a column in the middle of the room and then repeated the move, as this used a minimum of energy. Eventually he landed on the final ledge and rested next to Zephorion, waiting for them to lead the way. He could sense something beyond them, and guessed that it was the powerful magic of the place. His wings ruffled in excitement.
Phalynx flapped away from their ledge as soon as the Namer began crossing. She soared up near the top of the cave and hovered, watching the molten rock beneath them carefully while working to keep a constant position in the air. A strong gust of wind buffeted her momentarily, but she quickly righted herself, used to flying in powerful, unpredictable winds. When the others had crossed, she let herself glide gradually to them, still keeping her eyes trained below them. She eventually landed neatly next to her three companions, backwinging a little to slow her descent until her claws hit the rocky surface.

 Re: Blood Magic
Once all four of them were safely across, Zephorion heard Zeke snort softly. He turned his huge triangular head to his grandson, lifting an eyeridge in silent question. The amethyst grinned in response. That is the first time that I've gone across that the magic here has not retaliated in some way. he said, and frowned. Zephorion smiled slightly in return. That is because it recognized my magical presence. he said simply, and padded away down the hall. Zeke was forced to trot briskly to catch up to him. What do you mean by that, Zephorion? he asked, trying to rein in his impatience. The Namer grunted. The first time I came here, the magic attacked me and injured me, as it did to you. It is not simply a wild magic that has taken upon itself to defend this place from trespassers. It tests those who enter to see if they are worthy of the knowledge, perhaps even wisdom, that they will find inside. The second time it did the same, but the third time, it did nothing. Seemed I passed the test for good. Phalynx here is so purehearted that one test was enough, and Temias probably the same. You have been tested twice now, if I'm correct? he asked. Zeke nodded thoughtfully. Zephorion smiled slightly and didn't speak again until they were nearing the chamber entrance. A natural light filled the tunnel, and the faded indigo stepped to the side to let Zeke, Phal, and Temias see the Chamber.

 Re: Blood Magic
Temias smiled at the others, eager to enter the next room. He couldn't help but eavesdrop on what Zephorion was saying to Zeke, and blinked in surprise. The magic had not felt the need to test him, apparently, but why? Was it because the ones he was with could be trusted, or was it because of something else? He shook his head and followed the two males, grandfather and grandson, deeper into the tunnel. The strange sense of magic grew stronger and stronger as they walked, and the deep blue peered ahead. Eventually, the Namer stepped aside to allow them entrance, and Temias glanced at the others. Phalynx nodded for him to step ahead, her expression pleased and excited, and he did so. Emerging into the chamber beyond, the dragon gasped as thousands of statues, all perfect representatives of dragons, came into view. His scales tingled as he felt the power of the place, and he began immediately to walk through the rows of statues, looking for his own.
Phalynx also heard what Zephorion said, and glanced back to the magma. She had always tried to retain purity and sound judgement along with her sense of justice, and according to this "test," it was working. Temias, it seemed, did not even need to be tested. Phal had never known him to voice unkindness or act in any manner besides compassionate, and guessed that to be a possible reason. As they neared the chamber, Zephorion moved to the edge, and Phal let the others head in first, her eyes already fixed on the swirling, beautiful magic beyond. Completely entranced, she passed into the huge room, her steps silent and reverent. She could watch the dancing magic of this place for days.

 Re: Blood Magic
Zeke took a deep breath and lifted his head, closing his eyes to concentrate. He delved into his Heart Touch and searched through his surroundings, looking for the warm ruby glow that he had found earlier. He opened his eyes, and they glowed with warm blue light. He padded forward down a row of statues, to the one that he knew to be his grandfather. He found the Namer's statue. Just to the statue's left was a great ruby dragon, with slitted, cat like eyes that were as deeply red as a fresh rose. And farther down was another dragon, deep blue in color, like dark sapphire, azure blue eyes, with talons and spikes that glittered like freshly fallen snow. Saal and Jina. Saal had the appearance of a warrior, with thick muscles bulging in his neck, shoulders, and haunches. Jina seemed more of the gentle type, with a feline grace to her that drew the eye. Saal's wings were raised up in a semi-aggressive manner, head low and close to his body, physical posture as if he were about to pounce. Jina however was depicted as laying down in a half circle, wings resting on the 'ground'. Two very opposite appearances, but obviously they had made a good match. Phal, Zephorion, over here. I sense something around here, near Saal and Jina's statues. he called to his companions.

 Re: Blood Magic
Phalynx decided to follow Zeke as he searched for the Eldunari. She wandered along behind him as he made his way to Zephorion's statue. Two other statues stood conspicuously near it. One was of a fierce red dragon: Saal. The other was a beautiful blue: Jina. Zeke announced that he had found something near their statues, and the silver moved a few steps closer eagerly, awaiting his discovery. She smiled as she noticed how very much like his ancestors Zeke was, at least in appearance. The Namer's parents' scales shone like gems, and Zeke's did as well, though like amethysts rather than rubies or sapphires.
Temias wandered a little away from the main group, examining the statues. Near Zephorion's, he found statues that looked like the past Chiefs of the Tribe. Eventually, he found Kasiya's statue. Its proud, fierce stature depicted her perfectly. It was even marked with her four-colored Kalleks. Near her, he found the statues of his parents: midnight-black Apara (Kasiya's sister), and blue Riccoro. Near them, of course, was his own statue. Temias stood transfixed, staring at his stone copy. He glanced at the words written beneath it. The words merely said, "Voice of the Silent." It was a rather cryptic message, and he didn't have long to wonder what it meant before Zeke called them over. Temias trotted toward the main group, thinking over what he had learned.

 Re: Blood Magic
Zeke closed his eyes and concentrated again, trying to pinpoint where he had felt Saal's Soul Orb. After searching for a bit he opened his eyes once more, having find a rough position. It felt like the ruby glow came from Saal's stone chest, where the Heart would reside in a flesh and blood dragon. He extended his mind forward to brush against the glow, opening his mind to allow contact...And was sent staggering backward from the mental stab that felt like it went right between his eyes. He growled and shook his head, opening his eyes. That. Hurt. he snorted, his pupils narrowing. His temples pounded with a new headache, and he huffed with annoyance. Saal must be paranoid if he attacked that quickly without verifying who was contacting him first. he grumbled, rubbing his head with one paw. He slowly lowered his leg to the ground and glanced at Zephorion. He's your father; any ideas? he asked. He could feel the magical presence of the Heart now. Abruptly, the eyes of the ruby statue began to glow. Who dares interrupt my eternal slumber? rumbled a voice. The tone was so deep that it made Zeke's head almost hurt to listen to it.
Zephorion stepped up. Your son, Zephorion, and great-grandson, Zeke, as well as the prophesied Silver Star, and a warrior from the Tribe in the nearby mountains. he announced. The eyes flared almost angrily with light. You lie. My son was killed when I was attacked. How dare you attempt to say otherwise! he roared. Zeke winced and took several steps back, but Zephorion stayed where he was. The indigo lifted his head up fully, and then uttered a string of the Ancient Language so fast that Zeke didn't even get the chance to catch it. But apparently Saal did. The light dimmed. Impossible. How can you be my son, when I watched Naval destroy him before turning on me? a guttural growl accompanied this question. Neither Zeke nor Zephorion had way of answering him. Saal made a contemptuous snort. That is what I thought. Leave me, and take your lies with you. spat the ruby male, before retreating from their minds. The eyes of the statue went fully dark. It was silent for a moment, then Zeke huffed. Well, that went swell. he said, refraining from adding any sarcasm to his voice.

 Re: Blood Magic
Phalynx stood near Zeke and Zephorion, watching the statue curiously. Zeke suddenly stumbled back, speaking of how Saal must have been paranoid. She nodded solemnly, waiting for one of the two to make another move. The statue made the first "move," its eyes glowing with crimson light. The silver watched as Zephorion moved up to it, speaking and finally uttering a few sentences in the Ancient Language to verify his words. However, the presence seemed to grow more angry, accusing them of lying before leaving them. Phal exhaled an annoyed huff of air as Zeke spoke up, sounding equally vexed. I guess he is right to be suspicious. It doesn't sound like he had an easy life, or death for that matter. Although he should remember that someone can't lie in the Ancient Language, she spoke, her tail twitching as she observed the statue. She could see the Eldunari inside, the magic of the soul more beautiful even than that surrounding them. She paced around to the other side of the statue from the pair, bending her neck to get closer to the Heart. She refrained from making mental contact, however, not wanting to make Saal lash out again.
Temias watched the proceedings warily, somewhat startled by Saal's tone and words when he spoke. The Namer's father apparently did not have much in common with him, at least in terms of personality. Saal eventually broke off his contact with them, angrily disappearing from their minds. Couldn't he recognize his own son? the blue wondered aloud. He had never been close to his own parents, but they at least would have welcomed him. Or had it really been too long for him to recognize anyone? Do you know what he could have meant when he asked about Naval attacking you? he asked Zephorion, glancing between the indigo and the statue nearby.

 Re: Blood Magic
Zephorion turned his attention to Temias. I don't know...Mother told me that Father was going away, just a few days after I hatched. That's all I remember, though, from so long ago. he mused. I suppose it's possible that Naval attacked me, intending to kill me, and then moved on to Father, not completely finishing the job with me. he said. It sounded a bit farfetched, but it did make a bit of sense. And there was that scar on the back of his neck that he couldn't remember receiving. He snorted lightly. I do have a scar that I've never been able to explain where or when I got it. he said, and shrugged. I just figured it happened when I was young and was practicing my fighting skills. Maybe not. he mused, looking at the statue of his father sightlessly. He started when the eyes of the statue lit dimly once more.
- - - - - - - - - -
Saal felt a pure magical presence come closer to him. He had not felt a presence that pure since long before he still had a physical body. He lit the eyes of the statue so that he could 'see'. Lightly he brushed against their mind. You, young one. I have not felt a presence with a heart and magic as pure as yours in a very long time. he rumbled. His tone was gentler than before, tamed slightly by this soothing magic. Why have you deemed to interrupt my solitude, little one? he asked, his voice regaining some gruffness. He skimmed over her mind for her name. Aaah. That dragon spoke some truth, at least. You are truly the prophesied Silver Star of the heavens. Phalynx. Your name has been treasured among my family ever since Xephran saw you in a vision. he rumbled quietly.

 Re: Blood Magic
Temias nodded as Zephorion spoke. It seemed like Saal was only speaking what he believed was the truth, then. It made more sense now. He arched his neck back a little, peering up at the scar on the Namer's neck. It was very old, but still apparent, meaning it must have been fairly deep. Possibly life-threatening, even. And it did look like it had been made by dragon claws. He glanced back at the statue when it seemed to awaken again, and noticed Phal's look of surprise. What was going on, now?
Phal frowned at Zephorion's story, also realizing that Saal must only be speaking his version of the truth. The contact from the dragon stunned her for a moment, and her green eyes widened in surprise. He spoke softly at first, remarking on the purity of her heart and magic. It reminded her of the two middle parts of her True Name, which did define the fact that she had an inner light... starlight (she still wasn't sure where that came from, however). When he spoke again, his tone had taken on more of the attitude it had contained earlier. Yes, I am Phalynx. And I wanted to tell you something. A long time ago, you thought your son had been killed. But you didn't see him die. Well, Zephorion did not die. He survived. It has been over fifty-thousand years since then and he is now a revered member of our kind. He has descendents of his own, now, too. You didn't lose your son that day, Saal. You fought for him, and you saved him, she said softly, hoping the dragon would come to recognize the truth. It would be incredibly hard for him, she knew. He had thought he had lost his only child, but here was a dragon claiming to be that child, tens of thousands of years later. It wouldn't be easy to take in.

 Re: Blood Magic
Saal did not reply for a few moments, then. I do not see how that is possible. I saw the blood, I saw the life leave my son's eyes. And then Naval turned to me. I was too stunned and anguished to do anything as he pounced on me and ripped out my throat with his teeth. he paused briefly. That blue snake tore my son from me. I was angry enough to access my magic, even as I died slowly with him standing over me. But I...I didn't attack him. he said, and he seemed confused now. I felt the magic burning through me, scorching my very veins. There was so much of it...I could have killed Naval with a flick of my thoughts, compressed the air around him and made his body explode from the pressure. But I didn't. What did I do with the magic then? he asked himself. He seemed to draw himself together, and then extended his mental touch to include the other three dragons. What is the last segment of your True Name? If you are who you say you are, I know what it will be. he growled. The old male dragon growled softly in reply. Eld Skolirya abr Dauthleikar Mor'ranr, Shielders of Mortals Peace. It is the last segment of every Soul Reader or Truth Seeker's True Name. he rumbled. Saal was stunned. His mental touch retreated automatically. The eyes of the statue fell dark abruptly, but moments afterward a red light streamed from the stone chest. It formed a shape that looked slightly draconic, then actually took physical form. The flame-red scales gleamed, and the crimson eyes were narrowed like a cat's. The wraith-dragon hissed, its eyes looking over the group and stopping on Zephorion. His eyes were wrong, but...he knew those scales would have been a strong, handsome indigo when the male was younger. I recognize you. he growled, and his partially see-through scales bristled.

 Re: Blood Magic
Phal listened to Saal, confused by his words. However, this feeling left her when he continued, speaking of the immense magic that he had accessed as he died. So he did save his son... through his magic. So what had happened to Naval? She watched as Zephorion spoke again to his father, and suddenly the magic of the Eldunari reformed and stepped outside of the statue. The silver was unnerved for a moment, remembering the dragon-wraiths. She shook her head, knowing she was being ridiculous. She, herself, had temporarily become a wraith while messing with some strange magic and devices in Unity. She watched as Saal approached Zephorion, suspicion still in his eyes.

 Re: Blood Magic
Saal paused in his approach to the faded indigo, muscles tensed to spring to either flee or attack, though in his wraith form there was little physical damage that he could actually deal. What was your mother's name? he asked quietly, his crimson colored gaze intense. Zephorion lifted his head up, meeting his eyes despite the sightless way that he stared. Jina. Her name was Jina. And I loved her very much. the male murmured quietly. Saal froze, his body locking down and his mind rejecting the name that he had just heard the indigo utter. Impossible. You...you can't be my son...I..I watched him die before my eyes... he muttered, eyes wide. The male took a step closer, making the red stiffen subconsciously. I really am your son. he said softly. Tears blurred Saal's vision and he swallowed hard. He lowered his head to Zephorion's level, for he stood above the indigo by a good ten feet. He tried to brush his muzzle down the male's jaw, to touch him somehow. But Saal no longer possessed the luxury of flesh; he was simply a wraith with no physical body. He felt a slight warmth from Zephorion's scales, but that was all. How? How did you survive Naval's attack? I saw him pounce on you and...and... he swallowed again, unable to finish the sentence.

 Re: Blood Magic
Phalynx continued looking between Zephorion and Saal, her heart filling with warmth. She saw recognition at last creep into his transparent eyes, slowly replacing suspicion and disbelief. She couldn't help but smile, seeing the meeting between father and son, especially after the father thought his son dead. It was touching. She stayed silent, content to watch events take place between them. After a few moments, she remembered something. Had Temias seen his statue? She glanced toward him, and saw that he was also watching the Namer and his father. She would have to ask him when things calmed down, for she was curious about what was on it.

 Re: Blood Magic
Zephorion could not help the rumbling purr that rolled from deep within his chest. He felt the brush of something cold against his jaw. I don't know. I honestly don't. When Naval struck me down, was the wound on the back of my neck, like this scar that I have? he asked, and bent his neck to the side so that Saal could see the scar clearly. A guttural growl rumbled from Saal's throat. Yes. That is exactly where the wound was. But how did you survive? With a wound like that, and at such a young age, you should have died within a few moments. said the flame-red male.
- - - - - - - - - -
Saal mused it over for a bit, then shot a glance at Phal. You know magic. Was this, he paused and sent Phalynx a memory of just how much magical energy he had had when Naval had attacked him. The mere memory of it scorched him like it had then. enough energy to heal my son and revive him? he asked, his crimson eyes bright.

 Re: Blood Magic
Phal continued watching, already believing that Saal had healed his son with the magic. When he sent her the memory, she thought for a few moments. It reminded her of the energy from her Kallek Marks that had saved her from an equally fatal wound. She shuddered as she remembered that day. The scars on her chest and back were still there, the scales slightly more ragged, paler, and less sparkly than the rest. I think it would be, Saal. I can affirm that partially through experience. It is also the explanation that makes the most sense, she told him with a smile.

 Re: Blood Magic
Saal nodded thoughtfully. It seemed most likely. If that was the case, then he had saved his son. He closed his eyes. So impossible. Yet so real. He snorted mentally at himself. If his father could see him right now he'd be getting a knocking around for being to emotional. Thank the Great Dragon. he murmured, more to himself than the others. He reopened his eyes and found himself gazing at the young amethyst. He tilted his head to the side. Who might this be? he asked. The amethyst dipped his head politely. I am Zeke Blindscale, son of Zephor and Seluka. Zephorion stepped in. And Zephor is my son. Zeke is my grandson. he said. Saal's eyes widened slightly, then he smiled. He was a great-grandfather. Then pain flitted across his face. Jina? Where is she, is she alive, safe? he asked, worried for his mate. His son hesitated. The last time I saw Mother was shortly before Kumaraq, he said the dragon's name with a low growl. invaded Unity. he muttered with distaste. Then the indigo shot a glance at Phalynx that was filled with horror. You don't think....Did you see her among them in Unity? he asked the silver. Saal's eyes narrowed and he glanced between the two.

 Re: Blood Magic
Phalynx smiled as Saal met Zeke, happy for them both. She knew the feeling of discovering or meeting new members of her family. It was a feeling that filled one with warmth and affection. However, Saal suddenly asked of Jina, and Zephorion's expression darkened. He informed them that he had last seen Jina before Kumaraq's invasion of Unity. And since all of the surviving dragons of Unity had later gathered and formed the Tribe under the Namer's guidance, it was unlikely she had survived. Phal winced as she was asked if she had seen Jina, the memories of that day terrible but also good, in a way. She stared up at Jina's statue, wracking her memories. That event had been so chaotic... and there were many wraiths--hundreds. They had all been the same color until she had freed them, but she had gotten a fairly good look at them then. She searched through the remembered crowd, looking for the particular color. At last, she nodded. I did see her... after I had freed them. She faded away with the others... I don't know where to, she murmured softly.

 Re: Blood Magic
Saal made a sound in his throat that was half-way between a moan and a whine. Faded...away? he choked. He closed his eyes painfully. Jina...Dear, sweet Jina.... he crooned mournfully. Zephorion rumbled in his chest soothingly. They are all not dead. The wraiths that we are speaking of are what is left after both the Heart, and the body, have been destroyed. They do not live, but they are not dead either. So Jina is still here. The only task would be to find her. comforted the indigo. Saal didn't want to get his hopes up, but he couldn't help himself. Can either of you track her with your Heart Touch? he asked. It was Zeke that shook his head. We could try, but I doubt either I or Zephorion would be able to sense anything from her because she isn't fully alive. the amethyst glanced at Phalynx. Is there any chance that she somehow might have remained at Unity? the young male asked the silver dragoness.

 Re: Blood Magic
Phalynx looked between the three family members now in anguish, uncertain of what they could do. She knew more than ever, now that she thought about it more carefully, that she had indeed seen Jina among the wraiths of Unity. She had been near the front of the group when they had surrounded her after being freed. Zeke asked if there was any way she could have stayed in Unity, and Phal glanced away uncertainly. She could have. Most of the wraiths seemed to fade away to another place entirely. I think they were letting their forms dissipate permanently... or something like that. But of course some might have decided to remain. I have not seen any wraiths in Unity since that time, but that does not mean there are none, she responded solemnly, thinking more about where the wraiths could have gone.
They couldn't be destroyed, since their Eldunari were no longer physical and so could no longer be shattered. But she had gotten the sense that most of them, if not all, had faded away for good. Maybe they had spread themselves so thinly through the world that they had simply evaporated, like mist, cast in all places at once and unable to reform. She found herself thinking too deeply into it, and had to force herself to get back on subject. That would be a topic for another day. We could look, if you wish. Or I could look, when I return home, she offered, trying to give a small hope at least. There was always a chance she had remained. She smiled, thinking of home. Her three eggs were safe in Unity right now, and she longed to see them again. However, bothered by something, she turned to Saal. What will you do, Saal? Can you leave this chamber? Do you wish to? she asked, concerned.

 Re: Blood Magic
Saal was a bit more hopeful as Phalynx said that his mate might not be gone. He felt a hopeful shudder go down his spine and he smiled slightly, thinking of his beautiful Jina. Her blue scales that danced and shimmered like dark sapphire flames in the sun, her azure eyes that sparkled when she laughed....Oh how he missed her. He sighed longingly. He turned his head to the star silver and hesitated, then said. My Eldunari was transported here by powerful magic and....fused somehow with my statue here. The form that you see now of my physical body takes a lot of energy to produce, and I can move about freely while doing so, but I must stay within at least one hundred feet of my Heart or my form will fade out. I do not know if my Eldunari can be removed from the stone without causing harm to it. he said. Essentially, I am stuck here, I believe. At least, i've never tried to leave. I'm not completely sure that I want to see how the world has changed, anyway, but then again at the same time I curious of the world beyond my sanctuary in here. he said, and sighed. He saw the look Zephorion shot in his direction and understood it; the indigo wanted to know and learn more about his father. And Saal felt likewise about his son, grandson, and great-grandson.

 Re: Blood Magic
Phal smiled as she thought of going back to Unity. She hoped dearly that when she returned, she would find Jina's wraith there. It would make Saal and his family so happy. She listened as Saal then spoke of how his Eldunari was fused into his statue, and how he could not really leave this chamber. She wondered how that had come to be... what could have fused his Eldunari, trapping it in this manner? The red continued, mentioning how he wasn't sure that he wanted to leave but still felt curiosity about the world beyond. Phal thought about sharing memories with him, but he would still be trapped even if they did. Suddenly, an abrupt thought came to her mind. She knew of a way to free him from this statue... but it would be permanent. She was troubled, wondering if she should even suggest the method. After all, if Saal used it, there would be no going back. Saal, how much do you want to be free of this place? she asked, her voice taking on a more serious tone.

 Re: Blood Magic
Saal looked directly at the silver, his crimson eyes intense into her green ones. He heard the different tone in her voice, more serious. His pupils narrowed in response. I am neutral myself about leaving this place, but if leaving means that I can see my Jina again, then I will do whatever it takes. he vowed. He would do anything for his Jina, even go to the ends of the world or go down to the pits of hell. To use a human term, she had wrapped him around her little claw, and he didn't care a wit in the world. His gaze softened, as did his facial expression. I would do anything for Jina. he murmured quietly. He paused and tilted his head, noting that she seemed a bit troubled. What is it that you are thinking, young star? he said kindly to her, lowering his head down to her height.

 Re: Blood Magic
Phal nodded, recognizing his loving tone. She would do anything for the ones she loved... anything. When he asked what she was thinking, she hesitated, thinking of how to explain her idea. Well first we need to find out if Jina is still in Unity. If it becomes necessary for you to leave this place to be with her, then there is a way to do it. Kumaraq left magical devices behind in Unity, which I found. One of them can turn an Eldunari into a wraith, she explained, leaving out a little information. The device could also complete the process of turning a living dragon into a wraith, if their Eldunari had already begun undergoing the process as Phal's had. She closed her eyes for a moment, remembering the pain of that event, and it's consequences. Like I said, it is only an option to consider if absolutely necessary. Using the device in this case would be permanent, she added. She wondered if the others would want to go to Unity to search for Jina. It would be wonderful to see Saal and Jina, as well as the rest of their family, reunited.

 Re: Blood Magic
Saal nodded, understanding the need to hesitate and think it through. He noticed how Zephorion stiffened at the mention of Kumaraq, and the red wondered at it, but he did not question. I would be willing. Even before we know my Jina is alive, I would be willing. he said firmly. He shifted, looking at his statue briefly. Would this device need my Heart to be present to work? Or could I attach my Soul to one of yours somehow and be a passenger to Unity and then separate again once we're there? It was possible to do that when I was alive, similar to when one mind pulls another out of the body, except the soul is being used instead of the mind. he said, tilting his head at Phal curiously. He hoped his Jina was alive. He would be so happy if she was alive. Or at least not gone completely. His tail swished a bit from anticipation, his crimson eyes lighting up with hope.

 Re: Blood Magic
Phal shook her head uncertainly. I don't know how much distance the device can work over. Though I didn't think energy was an issue, so perhaps it could stretch the distance to your Eldunari here. However, you must understand that if we do this, it will be permanent. The device will destroy your Eldunari, turning you into a wraith forever, she warned, wanting to make sure he thought it through completely. Of course, she would understand him accepting if it was to be with his love again. In either case, I think the best thing to do is to head to Unity and see if Jina is there. Perhaps she missed you and her family enough to wait around--it's not unlikely, Phal continued, a smile spreading across her face and her green eyes lighting up, You are all welcome to come along. She wondered what they would all think of Unity. Zephorion had not seen the city himself since its destruction (she had given memories to him on her Name Quest).
Temias had been listening to the conversation with interest, wondering what the others would come up with. He didn't know much that could help, however, and so stayed silent. Memories of his time as a wraith continued entering his mind, though, making him just a little uneasy. What would happen if Saal agreed to being turned into a wraith? Would Jina be in Unity? Temias wasn't sure of the answer to either question, but he was happy when Phal invited them to go along with her to the city. He was eager to see the place of his ancestors, even if it was now a ruin.

 Re: Blood Magic
Saal nodded without hesitating. If it means being with Jina again. he said firmly, his crimson eyes blazing with hope. He looked around at the other three, then back at the silver. Your powers were prophesied. You can see magic signatures, correct? Do you think you can pull my magical signature and then push it in with someone else, so I can come along for the ride to look for my mate as well? he asked curiously. Zephorion cleared his throat. I would be willing to carry you, if that is the case. You three are still recovering from our encounter with Leurgan, including you Phal. he said, and tilted his head with a slight smile.

 Re: Blood Magic
Phal blinked as Saal spoke with determination, and then smiled. She could understand love like that, like what his tone spoke of. She was about to reply when he requested that she transfer him, when Zephorion volunteered to carry Saal, reminding Phal of her recent encounter. She chuckled lightly and nodded. Certainly I could, although it will take energy from you. You can't be really taken from your Eldunari, so there will be a thin link of your magic between you and it. This link will take energy from you, more as we get farther away. I don't think it'll take too much, though. Not enough to really cause any worry, she said, glad that she was finally beginning to understand more of her link with the magic of the world. She knew how many types of magic flowed, now, and could even predict its behavior in some cases. She was truly learning.
She closed her eyes and took a deep breath, and then concentrated with all her strength on Saal and Zephorion's Hearts. She began pulling most of Saal's essence from his Eldunari, willing him to help along with her. He would do most of the actual work in transportation. She would merely direct him and make sure all was established.
Eventually, after a few minutes of work, most of Saal now resided in Zephorion. The two were, temporarily, sharing the same body (though Saal would have no control of it unless the Namer willed it). There. That should do fine. Do you all feel up to leaving right away? It should take about a day to cross the Red Desert and then a few hours to get to my valley. The wind currents are in our favor, fortunately, she continued with a smile. She knew the seasonal air currents of this land. The memory of them was recorded by her senses, mainly the nerve endings in her sensitive wing membranes, and catalogued for later analysis. The silver had made a note to know the currents of and around her mountains as well as she could (she was going to raise a family and eventually fledglings there, after all).

 Re: Blood Magic
Saal helped as much as he could, trying to do what he could despite his limits to put less strain on Phalynx. After a few minutes of feeling strangely free, and settled into Zephorion's body. It was an odd feeling, to say the least. He could feel everything that his son did, but he could not control any of their body parts. He supposed that might be for the better. If he experienced a flesh and blood body and was able to control it, he might not go to Unity after all, just from the sheer joy of being able to feel again. He could feel now, true, but he was merely a passenger. Zephorion chuckled lightly. Comfortable? asked the indigo. Saal materialized inside their shared mind and raised at eyeridge. As comfortable as I can be after not having any body to speak of for several thousand years. he said dryly, then grinned. Yes I'm fine. We can go whenever you three are ready. he said to the others.
- - - - - - - - - -
Zeke chuckled and turned to leave, then paused and looked at Temias. Were you able to see your statue, or any other that your interested in seeing? Or do you have any questions about this place at all? he asked, his ice blue eyes glittering at the blue-black.

 Re: Blood Magic
Phal grinned as Saal finished the transition, announcing that he was ready to go when they were. She looked towards Temias when Zeke asked about his statue. She was also curious about what the deep blue had seen, and saw the air of wonder return to his face.
Temias smiled as Zeke asked about what he had seen. I did find my Statue, and those of my parents and other Tribe members. It was strange, though... it said "Voice of the Silent," on it. I don't know what it means, he replied, doubting the other two would know either. He thought he was probably meant to figure it out on his own. I guess my only questions would be about who or what built this place... but I don't think you know that, he added, gazing around them. It was truly a magnificent chamber, and he decided to return one day. His wings shifted a little, indicating that he was ready to get moving again. His energy was slowly returning, and he knew he would definitely be ready to visit Unity, the home of his ancestors.
Phal frowned at Temias's information. She had no idea what the words meant either, but she did know that it was probably meant to be a clue to something more important about the young dragon. He would probably have to figure it out for himself. Temias then asked about the creators of the chamber, and she shook her head in bewilderment. She didn't know that either, and wished she did. She turned to Zephorion and Saal. I guess we're ready to go, she stated, starting to walk toward the exit of the room. They could continue talking as they went. To tell the truth, the silver was getting a little impatient to see her eggs again. Perhaps she would show them off to her friends.

 Re: Blood Magic
Zeke mulled over what Temias had discovered at his statue in his mind, thinking of what it could possibly mean. Perhaps a hint to the blue-black's True Name somehow? He shook his head with a snort. Unlikely. The amethyst chuckled at the question. I don't know. He glanced at Phal. But maybe Xephran does? We should ask him when we get the chance. he said, tilting his head at the silver. He grinned at her excitement and raised an eyeridge, turning to follow her. You're itching out of your scales to get back to your home, and I doubt it is only to look for Jina. He nudged her shoulder playfully and grinned wider. Unless you know that Aeraldi will be waiting for us, there must be some other reason your so antsy to get going. he teased, and chuckled, his ice blue eyes glittering. He glanced back to make sure that Zephorion (and Saal) and Temias were following.

 Re: Blood Magic
Phal led the way out of the Chamber, her eagerness growing. She nodded as Zeke spoke, deciding that they should speak to Xephran again about the Chamber. She then grinned widely at amethyst's next statement, unable to contain herself. There is certainly a reason I am more excited to return home than usual. Going on adventures is more difficult, now, to say the least, she replied in a teasing tone, her eyes glittering mischievously. As they re-entered the magma chamber she laughed. Alright I'll tell you all. Temias, first of all, I have a mate now, named Aeraldi. We became mates a few months ago, she began, explaining things to Temias first off. He looked surprised, but she continued before he could speak. Anyway, we have eggs! Three of them! she exclaimed, launching herself out over the magma and flying around them excitedly.
Temias followed the others along, the heat from the next chamber reaching him and ruffling pleasantly along his scales. He glanced at Phal and Zeke as they spoke cheerfully about her reason for being so excited. He frowned when she cut off, leaving them hanging on purpose. When they emerged into the next large room, she turned to the blue and informed him of her newly mated status. Temias's eyes widened, and he was about to congratulate her when her next exclamation seemed to explode out of her. The blue-black male shook his head in bewilderment. Well, uh, congratulations! That's wonderful news! A bit much to take in so suddenly, he called to her with a laugh, flapping off the ledge and landing on one of the rocky platforms that led the way out of the cave. He hadn't seen Phalynx in ages, and now here she was with a mate and eggs! It was rather astonishing.

 Re: Blood Magic
Zeke grinned as she updated Temias about her mate, Aeraldi, but his eyes twinkled with joy for his friend when she exclaimed that she had three eggs. He crowed with his own delight and launched into the air after her. Congrats Phal. How long have you been hiding this from all of your friends? he teased, his eyes glittering, then laughed and darted away with a sweep of his wings. I am very happy for you, Phalynx. For everything that you have done for others and for Alagaësia, you deserve a little bit of something for you. This is a better than perfect reward. he said, flying lazily over to the opposite ledge. He heard Zephorion's rumbling chuckle and looked over at the Namer above him (who was riding the heat thermals that rose from the magma), who's pale green eyes were also twinkling.
- - - - - - - - - -
Zephorion grinned widely at Phalynx when she exclaimed her joyous news, feeling a warmth gather in his heart. Saal smiled within his mind. More younglings coming into the world. That is exactly what dragonkind needs. remarked the flame-red male. The Namer agreed, then chuckled aloud. Perhaps with little ones of your own you will learn to restrain yourself so that they will have a good example from you. he said, laughing deeply. He pulled in his wings and twisted to the side to avoid any playful retaliation from the silver, grinning down at her, then alighted lightly on the ledge beside his grandson. You will make a very good mother, I'm sure of it. he said, and chuckled once more. He turned so he faced the tunnel that led outward. Come on you two, he said in a warm tone to Phal and Temias. the day is waning and we must get our tails going if we want to have any flight time at all. he said with a rumbling chuckle.

 Re: Blood Magic
Phal was grinning immensely as her friends reacted to her news, overjoyed at their reactions. She laughed at Zeke's initial response and smiled warmly at him when he finished speaking. Well I haven't seen you since they were laid, so it's not like I was hiding anything, she stated with a chuckle, And thank you, Zeke. She nodded fervently at Saal's statement, agreeing wholeheartedly. She had always thought that new draconic lives were an extremely joyous occasion. Now that some of them were her own children, she felt even more elation. At Zephorion's words, she snorted and swooped down toward him, causing a powerful gust of wind to blow past his face. However, she sent feelings of warmth to the ancient dragon as he continued.
Thank you, Zephorion. I certainly hope so. And I will be slightly more restrained than usual, she told him with a laugh. Eventually the group exited the cavern, and she nodded at the Namer's assertion that they get going. She flapped up into the sky, closing her eyes and reading the air currents with her wings. Strong rivers of wind were blowing westward, out over the Red Desert. She let herself rise into the sky, waiting for her friends to follow.

 Re: Blood Magic
Zephorion smiled as Phalynx launched into the air, followed by Zeke. The Namer raised his huge wings out from his back, flaring them out completely. He beat them down powerfully, lifting himself effortlessly from the ground, once more to gain more height, then a third time to move forward. He stilled his wings and soared, allowing the winds to push against his membrane and lift him higher in the air. He felt Saal smile within his mind. You have your mother's easy grace when you fly. he commented. Zephorion smiled. She was a patient and very encouraging teacher. he replied back to his father. He frowned, hoping that they would find her in Unity. Then he paused, struck by something. This was the first time he had ever returned to Unity. How had things changed from so many years ago? He tilted his wings, banking slightly until he was heading toward the Red Desert. Phalynx, how has Unity changed since I led the others away? he asked, tilting his head up toward the silver curiously. Zeke looked to her as well.

 Re: Blood Magic
Phal set out over the open land with the others, enjoying the surging winds sweeping around her and propelling her forwards at greater than natural speeds. She glanced back at Zephorion when he asked about Unity and gave a sad sigh. It is a ruin of its former self. I have cleaned much of it up in the brief couple of years I have been living there, but it still feels empty, she told them, sending a few mental images to her companions. The entrance cavern, the largest underground room she had ever seen, had once been filled with gigantic stalagmites and stalactites which had housed most of the residents, but all of them had been destroyed and now that cave was completely hollow. The rest of the city was still damaged and in disrepair, but it was clean of rubble, now, and Phal had relit the magical lights and fixed the decorative items. She showed the others several images and memories as they flew, ground rolling rapidly beneath them. No doubt they would arrive in the mountains in only a few hours at this pace.

 Re: Blood Magic
Zephorion sighed sadly, having expecting this a bit. But with Phal living there, surely things weren't that bad. And he was proved right when the star silver showed images of her home. He smiled. It is not so bad, thank you, Phalynx. he murmured to her, his pale green eyes warm with sincere gratitude. Zeke, he felt, was gazing upon the images with awe. The Namer chuckled. His grandson hadn't seen Unity before. It looks even better in person trust me, even if one is blind. he said, and grinned. Zeke chuckled. I believe that. said the amethyst. Saal chuckled as well in agreement.

 Re: Blood Magic
OOC: Will do. IC: Phal smiled at the others, glad they enjoyed her images. She agreed with Zephorion, in that it was much better in person. The very atmosphere of the place made it worth it to visit. Time passed fairly quickly as they flew over the Red Desert. Eventually, the silver saw the distant peaks on the horizon, dim blue-ish shapes only just distinguishable from the sky.
The mountains rose up quite suddenly from the desert, the first few peaks dry and stained with a permanent rust-red color. The group passed into the mountains, and very soon after leaving the Desert, the land below became more lush and green. Pines and deciduous trees filled the valleys between mountains and climbed up their slopes as well. Phal found the river leading out of her valley and began following it. In about an hour she could see the familiar mountains surrounding the valley and hiding Unity, and immediately rushed forward in excitement.

 Re: Blood Magic
Zephorion flew behind Phalynx patiently, his wingbeats long and steady. He yawned widely, his teeth flashing. He had not gotten any sleep for some time now. He chuckled when he heard Phal's wingbeats increase. He looked back at Zeke and Temias. Come one you two, before our guide leaves us behind completely. he teased, loud enough that Phalynx would be able to hear. He increased his pace, his large wings effortlessly sending him forward after the star silver dragoness. They will still be there, dear Phal. You do not need to strain yourself. he said to her, his pale green eyes gleaming. Despite what he said he was eager to see Unity, even if it was a ruin of its former self.

 Re: Blood Magic
Phal slowed herself abruptly when she felt Zephorion's mental presence. Oh don't worry! My valley is just beyond that waterfall and those peaks up ahead! she called, unable to disguise her eagerness. She soared above the falling water, which ran through a narrow, forested pass. Suddenly, the pass opened up into a mid-sized valley. Grassy cliffs lined it on either side, bright green deciduous trees grew in thick groves throughout the valley floor, a sparkling river flowed through the center, and of course the huge waterfall fell at the head of the valley. A massive cave mouth opened above the falls, welcoming them into Unity. Phal swooped down low over the river, getting a refreshing drink as she made passes over the melodic waters. I'll wait for you to drink. What do you all say to a brief tour of Unity and then another meal before nightfall? Traveling has made me fairly hungry again, she spoke as she hovered over the river, waiting for her friends to drink.

 Re: Blood Magic
Zephorion chuckled and swept his wings forward, carrying him into the valley. He closed his eyes and inhaled deeply. It had been so long since he'd been here. But then again, it felt like he had never left. He drifted down to the river and alighted on the edge, dipping his head to drink deeply of the cool water. Zeke landed beside him and did the same. It was the amethyst that raised his head up first, water droplets clinging to his jaw like dew. Sounds like a plan. said the young male with a wolfish grin. Zephorion snorted as he raised his head. Indeed. he rumbled, shaking himself out. Saal was becoming anxious. What if she isn't here? What if she decided to fade out with the others? What if- the Namer cut his father off. No. She loved me and you too much. If there was any chance of her finding and seeing us again, she would stay. You know that. he assured the flame-red male. Saal snorted hesitantly in agreement but didn't speak up. Lead on. murmured the faded indigo to Phalynx, his pale green eyes gleaming. He smiled sadly. Would one of you mind being my eyes? he asked, looking from Phal to Temias.Unlike Zeke's ability, I can see only the flames of a soul when I light my eyes. I would like to see Unity as more than old and faded soul energy.

 Re: Blood Magic
Temias alighted next to the others and took a drink as well, enjoying the cool water rushing down his parched throat. He nodded to Phalynx at her plan, agreeing, and stepped back from the others so that they would all have room to lift off again. I can help you, Zephorion. It would be an honor to serve as your eyes for our visit, he offered immediately to the Namer upon his request. He waited for the silver to take flight, and immediately joined her, taking a place behind her and Zeke and directly before Zephorion.
Phalynx smiled at Zeke, Temias, and Zephorion and quickly took off. No use worrying now, Saal. We'll find out soon. I'm sure she stayed, she spoke gently to the dragon's consciousness, hoping to encourage him. She entered the massive cave above the waterfall, flying low along the tumbling, musical river and deeper into the plateau under the western half of her mountains. Eventually, the tunnel opened abruptly into the largest underground chamber she had ever seen. Tiny patches of glowing moss and magical torches lit the distant walls, appearing like colorful stars in the immense gloom of the cavern. A shallow lake lay still and quiet on the floor far below them. The silver lit her scales and led the group toward the shelf at one corner of the cave. Her eggs were safely hidden in one of the interior rooms of Unity, and so she took her companions to the entrance into the inner reaches of the city, landing and heading into the expansive, dragon-carved tunnel.

 Re: Blood Magic
Zephorion smiled and dipped his head to Temias. I thank you, Temias. he said, then followed Phal, Zeke, and the blue-black. He continued sensing things around him until they had entered the cave. It was slightly different, from the beating of the weather, but not very much. ancient magic of many dragons protected this place. When they all had landed, the Namer extended his mind to Temias's, tapping against his barriers like how a twoleg would knock so that the Tribe dragon would have time to adjust to having another in his mind. Well, two, actually, if Saal were added in.

Something shifted as it sensed something new enter its domain. It got up and stretched, flaring its translucent wings out for a moment before returning them to position on its back. It padded to the entrance, then paused and hesitated, looking back at the collection of three eggs. Surely they would be safe until it returned to make sure the intruders meant no serious harm. It looked back out to the outer halls, then at the eggs. It compromised by creating a bubble of protection around them from its own energy, which would temporarily repel anything that wished them harm until it could return. Then it turned and vanished into a wall.

 Re: Blood Magic
Temias responded to Zephorion's mental presence, allowing the ancient dragon into his mind along with Saal. He focused mainly on letting the two access what his sight was telling him. They witnessed along with him the expansive stone tunnels of Unity. The young dragon couldn't help but feel the oppressive emptiness of the ancient city. It felt as if there should still be dragons walking its halls and making their lives throughout its rooms, and yet it was free of all but the silver now leading them. He hoped Phalynx would act on her promise to fill Unity with life again, since such a magnificent place should not be forgotten.
Phal led her companions through the tunnels, eagerly beginning to trot as she neared the site of her eggs. As they got closer, she began to feel a strange presence ahead of them. It did not alarm her, however. Nothing that posed a threat could enter the city at all, so it couldn't be an enemy. She hurried forward and entered the final chamber with anticipation, seeing immediately the magic that coursed through the air. It was the distinctive magic of the wraith-dragons. She turned excitedly to the others trailing after her. We aren't alone! There is still at least one wraith left here! she cried, immediately extending her mind to assess the condition of the magic. It was a protective spell, woven around the three small eggs in her absence. She tried to determine if the magic belonged to any individual she knew, and recognized it quickly. It was certainly one of the wraith-dragons she had spoken with before their dispersion. This might be Jina's magic, actually... it is familiar, she murmurred uncertainly. Finished with her assessment, she headed over to the makeshift nest and bent to take in the scents of the eggs. All safe and accounted for.

 Re: Blood Magic
Zeke patiently followed Phal into the halls, tilting his head curiously when she hurried forward, but he hurried after her anyway. His eyes widened at the sight of the three eggs and pleasure touched him; it was another generation of dragons, right in front of him. He smiled, then turned to Phal, who abruptly announced that there was indeed at least one wraith-dragon here with them. Delight washed through him, and it strengthened when Phal added that it might be Jina. The amethyst prummed in his chest and glanced at his grandfather, who seemed to be jittery with excitement. How much of that excitement was actually Zephorion's, or Saal's, was the only thing in question. He turned to the eggs when the star silver approached them and smiled. They are beautiful, Phal. he said with a warm smile. He frowned though when he felt a strong presence enter the room and coil around the eggs.
- - - - - - - - - -
The figure stopped cold on its way to the front halls, feeling something brush against its spell. It turned and bolted back to the nest, a growl building in its chest. It burst through the wall, though it didn't retake shape, simply stayed in a stretched, formless mass. It growled and coiled around the eggs first, ignoring the beings that were in the room at the moment, focused on protecting the Silver Star's clutch. One piece of the mass reared up like a head, roiling angrily, then stopped and looked. As it studied the dragons before it, it shrank back from the eggs, recognizing the star silver dragoness. It had never planned on the silver knowing of its presence. My apologies, Silver Star. it gasped, almost fearfully. The voice was female, usually warm though high with stress. I had not known that you would be- she stopped cold and stared at the three dragons before her. One of them she recognized. Silenced from shock, she lost her concentration and her body formed, half in the wall and half out, muscles tensed and trembling as if she were prepared to turn and flee at the slightest indication.

 Re: Blood Magic
Phal was still drinking in the scents of her eggs, warmth and love radiating off her. The wraith had been protecting them for her, a thought which only added to the silver's contentment. She smiled at Zeke at his compliment, sending a feeling of gratitude to him. Suddenly, she felt another consiousness grow nearer. She kept her head and neck over her nest and looked up in time to see wraith-magic flood out of the walls, taking an amorphous shape above her nest. It was the same wraith, and it's magic looked very familiar to that of Jina's statue. The wraith abruptly reformed near a wall, and Phal recognized the blue dragoness. Jina began to speak, but halted when she noticed the dragons behind them. I thank you for your protection, Jina. This dragon is Zephorion... your son. He is carrying the soul of Saal, she said quickly, lowering herself until she was coiled around her nest in a way that she could twist her head easily to glance between her friends and the newly-arrived wraith.
OOC: Btw I know I'm holding up Past History but I haven't quite worked up the inspiration to post there yet... blargh I'm sorry. I should be ready to reply by this weekend at the latest.
