Kylar and Umbra

Okay this character is going to be an apprentice Rider to my other character Tuorin And Sioc

Huntsman: Kylar has grown up on the outskirts of Belatona on the southern tip of Leona Lake. Due to this lifestyle Kylar has had to hunt in the nearby plains and lake bank to feed him and his family. Because of this lifestyle Kylar is an excellent bow-man, a master at tracking and also takes great initiative in creating traps to maim or kill his prey quickly and efficiently.

Apprentice swordsman: Until recently Kylar has never had to use a sword other than his father's old hand-and-a-half blade when practising with his brothers or some of the younger men of Belatona. This puts him at a disadvantage when fighting most of the members of the Empire as he is a novice fighter with a blade. Tuorin hopes to train him better before using the last of his Brightsteel to fashion Kylar a Rider's blade.

Hand-to-Hand: Like most of the young men in any village across the Empire Kylar has often joined in fights from a young age. That and having two younger brothers has helped Kylar gain a great lot of experience in hand-to-hand fighting which he uses to compensate for his lack of knowledge in sword play. He will often disarm his opponents quickly to secure the upper-hand.

Character Personality:
Kylar is unsure of himself right now. Even with this feeling of doubt Kylar remains an optimist at heart and a good man in general. He was the son of a tanner and for his whole life he believed the only thing he would amount to was a simple tanner himself. Kylar has a great dedication to prove himself wrong though and to he wishes to make himself a great and worthy Rider. The desire to better to himself is always there, underlining his training as he constantly tries to out do himself and show Tuorin his abilities. This uncertainty is his strength and his weakness. His strength as it is there pushing him to better himself as a fighter, scholar and Rider. A great weakness because Kylar will often push himself farther that his limits will allow. This can be dangerous as a young Rider trying to grip their new found powers and abilities. Kylar is generally a happy man, and he will often take part in tale-telling as he loves stories but has never learnt the written language though it is one thing he is striving to learn as a novice under Tuorin's guidance. However, Kylar does know how to play the harp as his mother would often sing to him and his siblings when they were growing up. To calm himself when his emotions are in turmoil he would often sing to himself and he can be heard humming to himself from time to time when he is deep in thought. Being the eldest sibling of four children, Kylar has gained a great deal of patience dealing with his little brothers and sisters. This is why he has excelled at meditation side of his training and it has helped him focus on his other studies as well. Kylar also learnt a great deal of compassion as he loves his siblings more than anything but this is a weakness as this love could work against him if the Empire were to threaten them. Kylar also loves nature as he was fond of travelling around the lake and watching the creatures around him. Fishing and hunting gave him a great deal of time for himself and even as a lowly merchant's son Kylar has a very inquisitive nature which means he is constantly coming up with question Tuorin did not expect from Kylar at the beginning of the apprenticeship. Above all else Kylar wishes to make his little siblings proud of what he is and what he can be.

Character History:
Kylar was born into an ordinary family with no real prospect of becoming any more than a simple tradesman. He was the eldest child and his father began to train him when he was 5, shortly after he began his apprenticeship his mother had his younger brother. When he was 8 and Logan was 3 the two of them were playing near the shallows of the lake. Logan slipped as the shale beneath his feet broke and pulled him into a hole. Kylar leapt and just managed to grab his brothers hand. The weighted pulled him down and forced the shale deep into Kylar's forearm where he has forever bared a scar.

When he was 10 he created his first leather jerkin and showed it to his father who believed it was time for Kylar to advance onto the journeyman stage of his career. this was also when Kylar's youngest sibling was born, Elene, his little sister. Kylar then began to work on his pieces with renewed vigour. The extra income really helped the house as did the meat from his hunting. Kylar's father was also please with the extra hide and he was proud of his son becoming a man.

At 16 Kylar finally began his last stage of becoming a tanner and leather-smith. This was also a time where Kylar could barely find time for himself. This was when his mother taught him how to play music and Kylar found it calming and a positive trait to have.

The night he played in the Lonely Mount Inn was the week he was to become a master and to show his final piece to the Guild of Belatona. At twenty one Kylar hardly believed the old tales of Riders and Dragons. Yet when he met Tuorin and Sioc the legend unfolded before his very eyes! That night Umbra hatched for Kylar and Kylar realise he was destined to be more than a lowly craftsman. As Tuorin began his education Kylar revelled in the chance to be something. A Rider. The Stuff of Legends. As the group made their way across the land Tuorin told them how he was going to take them to the same island he had trained upon.

Since that Kylar and Umbra have lived with their master on the Island of Uden. Kylar was slow to advance through the way of a swordmaster and has only recently began to find his own niché as a fighter. Tuorin reckons the day is close for him to begin making Kylar's Rider Blade. Kylar has used his knowledge of music to help him learn the Ancient Language. So far Kylar has not yet used magic but he has already been thought the basics, just in case Tuorin is not around when he first uses it. On the few raids into the empire that Kylar has accompanied Tuorin on Tuorin has found Kylar is slow to anger and does not wish to battle but if needs be he will try to injury his opponents and offer mercy instead of killing them. Tuorin is pleased that his student is one of mercy but worried that if the time comes Kylar will not take the shot that is needed.

Weapons:
Hand-and-a-half Sword: Kylar uses a simple steel sword that was given to him by his father after the egg hatched for him. The sword is basic steel, with a black crossguard and hilt wrapped in leather with a simply small onyx set into the end of it's hilt. Kylar plans to use this sword until Tuorin has finally discovered which sword type would be best suited for the young apprentice.

Likes:
Tale-telling, songs and playing music. He also enjoys wandering in the wilds and watching the beasts of nature

Dislikes:
Failure, and oppression

Weakness / Fear:
His fears that he will not be good enough to do what he needs to do. Kylar's only real weaknesses are his lack of skill with a blade and his willingness to do anything to protect his kin

Character's Physical Description:
Kylar is a tall lean man with slightly tanned skin from his being out doors so much. He has broad shoulders from his work and from using a bow so much. His long arms give him an advantage in hand to hand. Kylar has a great amount of strength without magic from the turning of the vats in the tannery and also from his shoulders and back muscles. He has a scar running along his upper right forearm from his childhood. His eyes are pale blue and full of reassurance yet his hair makes him look strange with it's snowy whiteness. He wears a black, stag leather jerkin with silver string tying it together. He also wears black gloves to cover his palm and black leggings with soft sole leather shoes.

Dreams for the Future: To restore the Riders and be able to see what it is like in an era of peace

Reason for Dreams: He has lived his entire life being oppressed in the Empire and he wishes for his family to have a better life.

Alignment/side: Kylar has been though by Tuorin and therefore feels the same as Tuorin as to how he should fight the Empire and restore the Riders

History:
Umbra remembers feeling Sioc's conciousness the night the other Rider and Dragon found his egg and other than that the only other time in the egg he can remember was the night Tuorin was in a tavern in Belatona and he good hear a voice. A simple voice singing a simple song and he swayed in his egg. Tuorin noticed the shaking and he realised he had finally found the Rider. Umbra felt the presence leave and he remained still again. Within a week Tuorin had found the singer.

When he had hatched his training began as they slowly made their way to the coast. By the time they had made it their Umbra was big enough to fly but not yet big enough to carry Kylar so Sioc carried both Rider's as they made their way to Uden where they would further their training. Ever since that day they have lived with Tuorin and Sioc on the island training themselves and sometimes travelling to the mainland to fight the Empire.

Personality:
Umbra is like any young one born into this world. He is full of question and wonder. Umbra will quiz Sioc at great lengths about all things and even the wise and old Tuorin cannot answer all his questions. Umbra laughs the most and will always be willing to humour someone. He is a quick learn as he wishes to become a great and noble dragon. He loves to fly among the birds and watch them swirl in and out of the clouds. He finds great enjoyment in music and will often be seen sitting by the camp fire composing lyrics to keep himself entertained. So far he has yet to been in any major conflict other than a few small fights which means he does not have the bloodlust of older dragons

Colour:
Umbra has black scales like onyx or jet gemstones, with silver veins tracing through his scales

Appearance:
Umbra is averaged size for a youngling, with a modest wingspan and lean muscles. He is a lithe flyer and can outmanoeuvre even the birds. His underbelly is covered in large thick platinum scales, as are the front of his legs. While the rest of his body is dark jet black in colour. He has claws on the tip of his wings that are dark silver and all over his body are various silver veins. He has spike along the base of his skull and neck and slightly recurved horns near the top of his head. His eyes are deep platinum colour and they look like a liquid metal. His wings are black at the spine and have a black and silver membrane a wing span close to 15ft already. His head is cover in a thick bone like structure that is made of millions of tiny scales that are the same colour as the ones on his underbelly. Under his eye are a group of small spikes the same kind as at the tip of his wings

Dreams for future:
To restore the Riders and be able to see what it is like in an era of peace

Reasons for dreams:
Umbra is new to the world but due to Sioc he has already learnt of the hurt the Forsworn have caused and also what the land was like before it all began.

Weakness / Fear:
Umbra's main fear is that he will lose is freedom that he only recently gained from hatching from his egg. His weakness is his lack of experience as he is only a hatchling himself
