Masquerade
Arston shifted impatiently, not bothering to hide his annoyance. It was bad enough having to serve Galbatorix, but this... This was insane. There was no way the tyrant would be able to get so many twisted and conniving individuals to work together. Something was bound to go wrong and when it did, Arston would be there gleefully laughing at the king's failure.
He turned to face the door of the throne room, ignoring the king and his black beast sitting in the chair at the head of the room. The messages with the date and time had been sent, and the people to whom they had been addressed should be arriving soon. He slipped his helm shaped like a dragon's head off his own and held it under his arm.
What do you think Arturos? Do you think any of them will actually show? he asked his partner.
Hmmm... It's hard to say. All of these people have great enemies pitted against them, I doubt they'd pass up a chance to rid themselves of a few. Then again, they may think it's a trap set up by the king. I'm not sure it isn't a trap. the emerald dragon replied, the tip of his tail twitching as he too watched the door. He turned his head briefly and stared keenly at Shruikan, snorting contemptuously and turning away again when the dragon stared back.
Arturos wanted nothing more than to tear the black dragon limb from limb, but sadly his oaths prevented him from doing so.
He straightened up and looked at the door in interest when a trumpet sounded outside the door, announcing the arrival of one or more of Galbatorix's conspirators. He could sense Arston's distaste at what was about to happen, but there was also a hint of relief that he would soon be dismissed and be able to go to his chambers and get out of his uncomfortable armor. Arturos's own armor had been left in the dragon barracks. Apparently they didn't want to intimidate their "allies".
Fat chance of that. he mumbled to himself.

Re: Masquerade
Illusia shifted uncomfortably as he stood in the king's throne room, Morpice standing behind him.. Neither of them could hide the smirk that broke out on their faces at the king's idiotic plan. He was calling some of the strongest villains in Alagaesia to one spot, to work together? This couldn't possibly end well. Either a couple of them would get into a fight, or the plan would succeed and Alagaesia would be destroyed. Either way, the latter would inevitably happen. Illusia glanced at Arston, slightly relieved that there was at least one sensible person here.
Illusia turned sharply to face the door as a trumpet sounded, which meant that someone had actually arrived. That meant that one of the people who was sent an invitation would show. That already exceeded Illusia's expectations of an absolute zero amount of people showing up.
Crugan walked down the corridor, eying the decorated rug and walls around him with distaste. Freohr and Zar'rac were outside of the city; neither of them could bring themselves to indulge in this frivolous meeting. He wasn't here to follow the foolish king's silly orders, but instead to get more rivals, whether they be corrupted or not. Whether or not this worked out for Galbatorix mattered not to Crugan. No, all he cared about was recruiting more men, and now he even got a sneak peek to look inside the king's castle! He needed this kind of information when he planned to siege it in the years to come. So far, he didn't think of the castle as much, and had deduced that the king had poor taste in art.
He heard trumpets sound, and he shot a glare at the people holding the trumpets. How stupid he thought irritably. He placed one hand on the massive doors that lead to the throne room and pushed it open, entering silently. A giant red carpet led from the doors to the throne where Galbatorix was sitting, an arrogant smirk on his ageless face. It was the first time Crugan had seen the king, and once again, he wasn't impressed. Two Riders stood on either side of the room, dragons next to them.

Re: Masquerade
Letheona stood silently over in a corner of the throne room. She looked upon the king with intelligent and calculating eyes. She had worked for him for to many years to not be aware of who he was, and what hewas capable of. She didn't regard him as an equal, rather a means to an end, and if his current plan succeeded then he would prove useful.
Her red dress flowed out from her body like smoke as she moved. Her red gloves making her look pale, and frail. A misconception that would get someone killed. The others in the room were standard ad scary, powerful creatures. There was no doubt to be problems between so many of power. She walked the edges of the room until she was infront of Galby. Her red eyes glowed as she bowed stiffly to him. "hello my king." her voice flowed like venom through the room.

Re: Masquerade
Soleil stepped along the long red carpet, entering behind another man, she stepped to his side and scowled. There were two riders next to the King, probably meant to be intimidating, she, however, felt nothing besides annoyance.
Despite the fact that this was taking her valuable time, she saw it as a good oppurtunity to find foes, scope out possible enemies, even the King himself. What better way of discovering weaknesses than to look inside his domain after all?
She stopped and half stepped off the carpet, sizing the King up and then crossing her arms, "Hmph." She turned, looking around the awfully decorated space.
Aescix scoffed. He stood by the wall, leaning with his wings spread ever so slightly. He had been here for hours, waiting on the rest of these big-headed fools to show up. He just wanted the possibility to kill Caete, thats all he cared about. And if Galbatorix would give it to him, then why shouldn't he be interested. He smirked and glanced toward the King.

Re: Masquerade
OOC: I guess this is all of them then. Arston eyed the arrivals with distaste, not bothering to hide the fact that he gripped his sword hilt the moment they started walking through the doors. His oaths forced him to protect Galbatorix, but it was his own common sense that made him ready himself. Even if they didn't try to kill the King here and now, the same couldn't be said for himself and Illusia. They might kill the two Riders just to make a point. He looked over at the other Rider and grimaced. He could tell from the way he was standing and trying, while failing miserably, to hide the smirk on his face that he knew this plan was foolish as well.Galbatorix lounged disdainfully on his throne, lazily watching the characters walking towards him. Each of them seemed to radiate a sense of power, well, all except for the woman in red who was standing before him. He nodded a greeting to Letheona, then flicked his gaze to Illusia and Arston. Illusia was smirking at his supposed folly, while Arston looked as though he had a toothache. The latter was gripping his sword and watching the arrivals like a hawk. His dragon, Arturos, hissed slightly and shifted behind his Rider, emerald eyes taking in each person in turn.
His own dragon, Shruikan, seemed like he couldn't care less about the group coming through the doors.
"Greetings, all. I see only a few have answered my gracious invitation," the king said in his most charming voice. He finally deigned to stand before them, a cold, cunning smile on his face. He held no foolish notions that this plan could possibly work, but it might at the very least rid him of some bothersome pests.
"I assume you know why we are gathered here today, so I will start by asking who it is you wish to see dead and if you have any ideas about how it can be done."

Re: Masquerade
Illusia glanced at every person entering the throne room warily, not doubting that a single one of them wouldn't hesitate to attempt to stick their blade through the others. This was a plan doomed to inevitable failure. Illusia removed the smirk when Galbatorix glanced at him, sending a glare in the king's direction. Morpice stifled the snort that was eager to come out at the King's "introduction". No matter how badly the people here wanted someone dead, it's not like they would simply share that information. Galbatorix might as well arrange them all in a circle and throw a ball around, the catcher speaking his or her name when he or she caught the ball. It wouldn't do any good, in other words.
Crugan watched as more entered with an impassive gaze. Hesitation would show weakness, and confidence would betray arrogance, so he decided with neither. When the king began to speak, Crugan bit his tongue from answering the question and simply repeated his answer in his mind. You he thought to himself. Rather, he settled with, "Anyone who stands in my way or opposes me. Their cause of death matters not, only that they die before they can make any substantial differences."

Re: Masquerade
Ooc: *evil laugh* that is part of Leth's deadly plan lol she is a lethal shade muaaaaaaaaaa
Ic: Letheona rolled her eyes. All the men in the room disgusted her. The testosterone level in the room wa enough to gag her. The power while delicious to feel was overkill. They all knew power was held by each. They would do well to keep it hidden better. She gave the evil king a bow, and then moved away. She looked pale, and weak but beneath her pale skin beat a black heart.
The only reason she deigned to come to this ridiculous meeting was for the hope of eradicating her sister, and her old host. Their days were numbered, but if the king's plan somehow managed to work....something she doubted.....her life would be made easier. She licked her ruby red lips in anticipation.

Re: Masquerade
Soleil scowled, "Doesn't matter who I want dead, as long as I get to see it." She sniffed, looking at the king, "Why don't we just get on with the plan before this gets boring."
She wondered in the back of her mind if that was smart to say to Galbatorix, but it wasn't like she cared enough to stop. She wasn't interested in their petty shows of power, she just wanted to see death.
Aescix snorted, not speaking. He wasn't going to deign to speak to this crowd unless they spoke to him first. He kept his posture but let his eyes wander to the others, taking in their power, several of which let it flow potently into the air.
Aescix rolled his eyes, he didn't care about the others, all he wanted was Caete's head, and as soon as he got that, he was leaving this stinking castle.

Re: Masquerade
OOC: Last round with the baddies, then the party starts. Get your dancin' shoes on folks. Galbatorix thought he had a good idea of what passed through most, if not all, of their minds at that moment, but he ignored it. He smiled coldly, "Well, if I'm not going to get any names unless I give a few... Here's a list. Since it would be a little obvious if I or one of my dragons were to attend in person, this is a list of my targets and what they look like. If the opportunity arises, take them out." He clicked his fingers and Arston stepped forward, handing out a list of names to each of the attendees. The king smiled scornfully at the look of loathing the Rider gave each of them.
"Now, here's the idea that I had..." he began once each of them had a list. His plan was full of poisons, magical barriers and dampeners, and even a few drugs of his creation that stopped the use of other special powers. "Now, it may sound complex, but rejoice, for I've already finished most of the required spells. Once it's completed, the building in question will be a completely magic free zone. And since it's a party, why would they think to bring weapons? After your specific targets have been affected, it'll be like target practice to bring them down," he finished, returning to his chair. He watched them all closely as they processed the information.
When he judged that they had had enough time, he spoke again,"Now, I need a list of what else to expect from your targets. There are more than a few... oddballs..." his gaze flicked to the winged man staring around arrogantly, "moving around these days."

Re: Masquerade
Crugan frowned, listening to the plan halfheartedly. It isn't complex; it's just stupid he thought to himself. As someone had once told him, elaborate plans hardly ever worked. It was better to take things into your own hands. Snatching the list out of the Rider's hands, Crugan skimmed over it and shoved it away into his pocket to examine more closely later.

Re: Masquerade
Leth almost laughed aloud. The king's plan was something a two year-old could have come up with, but despite all that it wasn't Grammy unreasonable. She shook her head a the list was given to her. She would examine it later. All she really cared about was killing Zantya.....again. Of course her snooty husband has saved her, but if this plan succeeded then Eu'am would be to late. Leth would win. A rare smile graced her ruby red lips. A smile of malice.

Re: Masquerade
Aescix grabbed the paper, glancing over it, before shoving it into a side pocket of his shirt. He turned slightly, wondering what the old man wanted them to do now. He'd be an idiot if he didn't think that something was going to wrong, and Aescix wondered if he'd even planned for anything like that. His eyes locked with the king, then he smirked.
"Oddballs like me, your highness?" He coldly grinned, feeling Drilt quickly tap into his mind. "There's only one of my kind that you have to worry about besides me. And if anyone else touches him, I will kill them." His eyes narrowed and the scythe strapped to his back shook slightly as he spoke.
Soleil gingerly tugged the paper out of the Rider's hand, and looked at it disinterestedly, "Whatever." She folded her arms, not even focusing on any of the names, and instead looking back at the king. She didn't have any one person in mind at this point and she was sure that the only reason the king even contacted her was because her father was a shade.

Re: Masquerade
Galbatorix gave the winged man one last scathing look before dismissing the group with a lazy wave of his hand. "You can go now. Leave a list of your targets and their powers with my man on the way out. The plan commences a week from today," he said.
_______Time skipness....________
Raven felt ridiculous. She didn't even know what she was doing here. Oh wait, yes she did. That oversized, blue-scaled lizard also known as her dragon. She couldn't even complain about what an absurd idea it was for her to be here, in a dress, in the middle of the Empire. The Rider shifted uncomfortably in her chair, the rustle of silk accompanying her movements. The sound made her scowl even more.
She was the sort of person more at home in work clothes. Now here she was wearing an emerald green dress, with a slit up the front of the skirt revealing another skirt (navy blue) under it. The sleeves stopped just short of her elbows, but then a bell of green silk fell from there, covering her arms all the way down to her hands. Oceanis hadn't stopped there. Not only had she made Raven buy the thing, she made her wear these awful little slipper-like shoes with flat soles. There was no way she was going to be running in those things. They kept trying to fall off her feet.
The only fond thing she could say about the dress was that she had managed to get out of having to buy a hoop skirt. The dress fit snugly about her waist before billowing out with a short train behind her. She sighed and crossed her arms. Watching the people dancing across the room. At least they can't see my face. she thought with fake cheerfulness, adjusting the fang-shaped mask that covered her eyes and then curved along the right side of her jaw.
Illuna grinned happily, dancing with some stranger wearing a mask that cover his entire face. She hadn't really been invited to this party, but she had managed to find a way in. Her smile faltered a bit when she remembered the guard who's mind she had tampered with, but she was sure he'd be all right later. The song changed and she curtsied a farewell to her partner, her ruby party gown shimmering in the slightly dim lighting. She turned to go find something to drink, but the closest waiter was standing beside a woman in a green-and-blue gown who was wearing a decidedly formidable look. Lu chuckled at the woman's sour look, then went looking for a drink elsewhere.
Truthfully she liked to dance, but the real reason she was here was because she had a feeling her twin might be as well. She couldn't tell for certain though. The half-Shade girl unconsciously rubbed a finger against the ring on her left ring finger. It was because of this ring that she couldn't tell where her twin was.
Arston bowed stiffly to his partner as the dance ended, then watched her walk away in her red dress. He stood and surveyed the party-goers, trying to see if he could spot any of the people he was supposed to kill tonight. Bile rose in his throat when he realized what he was doing. All these people here enjoying themselves, and I'm here about to try and kill a few of them. he thought in disgust.
He shook his head and walked off the dance floor, wishing he could at least do this job with some amount of honor. But no, he had to be here, dressed like a nimwit to satisfy the king's crazy whims. He irritably tugged at the black, full-faced mask hiding his features from those present. He noticed a girl in a purple gown watching him and immediately turned and walked in the opposite direction. Don't even think about it girlie. he thought savagely, no longer in a mood to try and enjoy the dancing.
Aero blinked in shock. Something about that man in the black mask reminded her of... But it couldn't be... She shook herself back to reality and turned to continue her conversation with the gentleman who had escorted her here. Still, her mind kept wandering back to those happy times with her brother when they were young.

Re: Masquerade
OOC: My, how I love using Hawke. ^ ^
Hawke tugged at the collar of his dress shirt nervously. Over his dress shirt, he wore a nice black suit, nicer than he should have gotten. Elisa's scolding reverberated throughout his mind and he groaned, slapping his forehead in embarrassment, but stopped when he felt his palm hit his mask. The mask fell to the floor with a slight shake, and he quickly bent over to pick it up. He thought about his conversation with Elisa. . .
No! If you are going to go to a dance without my assistance, then I at least must help you pick out a suit! Elisa had said. Hawke groaned before picking a tunic and showing it to his critical but playful dragon.
Elisa showed her distress through an irritated squeal. Hawke, you have absolutely no taste! Do you have no interest in women? Because I assure you that you will get none with that trash of fabric! Elisa snapped, eying the tunic with disgust.
Hawke's cheeks flamed and he straightened his stance indignantly. He was about to point out that Elisa was a dragon, and that she wouldn't know what a woman would like, but she interrupted him by poking his chest with one of her talons.
No, it was too embarrassing to recall all of it. He felt his face flush just thinking of that part. No, that was probably the worst conversation he had ever went through, short of when he thought that Iz was Galbatorix and Nirexi was Shruikan. Hawke scooped his glass through the punch bowl and walked off nonchalantly, casually sipping his glass.
Crugan had his foot up against the wall, eying the others around him. How were they supposed to recognize these people when they had masks on? Once again he was forced to reiterate to himself how stupid this plan was, and that Alagaesia surely needs a new king. A mask fell off of one person, and Crugan's eyes darted to him, confirming him as one of the people on the list.
Illusia glared at nearly everyone around him, but none could tell because of the mask on his face. He occasionally glanced at the list Galbatorix had given him of the people he was supposed to kill. He sighed; just more actions to reinforce his forced bond to Galbatorix.

Re: Masquerade
Reb grimaced. The long silk, fitted ice blue gown was so out of her comfort zone. The color was outrageously noticeable. She knew the point was to hide who you really are so she went for something opposite her usuall black. Her mask was covered with jewels, causing her eyes to stand out. Al in all her outfit was cheery, standing out. Reb suppressed a groan.
Her heels clicked as she walked around the large room. There were so many people around, and she refused to look to close at each of them. She was leery of this ball, and Star Gazer had been completely against her coming. Reb had refused to listen, obviously or she wouldn't be here. She had managed to slip away when Star was busy being queen.
Zantya laughed as the ball gown flowed around her. It was large, though the color was a muted dark purple. She was thrilled by the mystique of the ball, her mask a very unique one in the shape of a fox. She walked around the room, blending in. Her height and her outfit helped her do that. Though if one were to look close they would see her baby bump beneath the dress. Her smile faded. Eu'am didn't Know she was here. He was with the Varden at the moment .
She pasted another smile on her face, refusing to let that ruin this ball. She watched as a tall siren passed in a slinky blue gown. Something about the way the woman moved was familiar but she shook it off, and enjoyed the music.
Leth marked by the two she wished dead and handed her list to th king's man before leaving.

Re: Masquerade
Isabella wasn't sure why she'd decided to come to the ball, besides that Nirexi had said it might be interesting. Though she still felt considerably strange, wearing the knee length black dress. It was strapless, thus fit considerably like a bodice, and from the hips down it was comprised of feathers that adorned the fabric outwardly.
He mask was the standard intricate black eye mask, with black lace attached to the bottom to hide the rest of her face. Black feathers attached to the right temple side of the small tying mask, to match the bottom of her dress.
Her black heels clicked as she moved across the floor, smiling as she caught a glance of herself in a nearby glass. She looked to the side, immediately seeing a mask fall to the ground. She smirked as she saw the man who had dropped his. She wasn't surprised that Hawke was here, but it made her feel like laughing. She walked forward, wondering whether she should keep walking, just to tease him, in case he recognized her, or whether she should stop and see if he'd dance with her.
She flicked her hair over her shoulder, newly set into waves, and fluttering everywhere. She decided to keep walking along, considering he was moving as well. She didn't mind anyway, she was surveying the entire floor.
Caete grumbled, fiddling with the cuffs of his white suit, and fiddling with his wings through the cut jacket, "Darn it all Niriz. You couldn't have gotten one that was a size larger?" He mumbled, looking around quietly. He had a feeling something might happen, yet despite this he was rather entertained by the dancing.
His mask was a simple half mask that covered his entire forehead, his left eye, and his nose and the left side of his chin. His right eye remained visible along with his lips. He wasn't sure why he'd chosen this mask, but its golden hue went well with his wavy blond hair.
He walked to the punch bowl, grabbing a glass then leaning against the wall, wondering if anything interesting would happen.

Re: Masquerade
Raven finally got tired of sitting in the corner thinking of all the ways she would make Oceanis pay for this, so she got up and started walking around. She frowned when she saw a man leaning against a wall wearing a pair of fake wings. They look real enough, but I guess he got the idea of a masquerade party mixed up with a costume party. she chuckled despite herself. She walked over to the man and looked him up and down, her hazel eyes an intriguing mix of emerald green and gold tonight. She thought it might have something to do with the light reflecting from her pale gold mask and the tiny emerald embedded on the forehead.
"You realize there's a difference between a masquerade party and a costume party, right?" she asked. She smiled as she said it so he wouldn't take it as an insult. There. I'm being friendly. That better be enough for you. she thought darkly, even though Oceanis was too far away for her to even sense her partner's mind.
Arston narrowed his eyes when he noticed a man with wings and a woman leaning against the wall talking. The list had specifically mentioned a man with wings, and unless this was some idiot trying to be impressive, then he had located a target. The Rider walked towards the pair, his gaze flicking momentarily towards a man that dropped his mask. Mark number two. he thought quietly.
He reached the other two and leaned against the wall on one arm. His billowy black shirt and sea-green tunic made him look even bigger than he really was. "So, how's the ball so far?" he drawled, his eyes glinting behind his mask. He irritably ran a hand over his short, silver-blonde hair, trying to give the impression of a man who was uncomfortable with his surroundings. Which really wasn't that hard for him to pull off.
Illuna noticed that more than a few people present seemed unhappy and nervous with their surroundings. She chuckled brightly when one of those people dropped his mask out of nerves. She swept over to him and grabbed his right hand. "Come with me young buck, you look like you need a dance or two!" she said brightly. She noticed that a woman in black seemed to be watching the guy she was towing along, so she winked at her roguishly. Maybe now the party would get started.
After awhile her escort got up to go dance with someone he apparently knew, so Aero left the table to wander around the room. Despite herself, she kept looking over at the man that somehow reminded her of her brother. He even had silvery-blonde hair similar to her own. She sighed and looked around for anyone that might be willing to dance, so she could get her mind off her twin. All she saw were some very formidable looking people sitting against the walls, and a woman in red dragging some poor sap in her wake.
Resigned to boredom the rest of the night, Aero took another seat and adjusted her mask. It was a simple piece of pale purple fabric, tied across her eyes like a bandit's mask. She had thought after the dress that something simple was in order, so she had chosen this mask instead of something gaudier.

Re: Masquerade
Hawke stammered when a woman grabbed his right hand and tugged him along for a dance. For once, he was glad that he was wearing a mask, for it hid his gradually reddening cheeks. If Elisa were here, she would never let him live this down. While she was pulling him, Hawke's eyes widened and he cursed Elisa over and over again. This was a ball, and although no one would recognize him later, there was one pretty important detail he was missing. He had never danced before! He hoped that his instinct would lead him well, and he absentmindedly wondered where to put his hands. One of his hands held another of hers, and the other was placed on her waist, right? He searched his mind quickly to confirm the thought. When they stopped, he placed his left hand on her waist and held her other hand with his own.
Crugan's eyes flickered to the man who had dropped his mask. One. Then his eyes immediately darted over to a man with wings. Crugan honestly hoped that they weren't some lame prop. Two he thought. He stepped off of the wall and weaved in and out of the crowds casually, making sure not to lose the man who had dropped his mask. The one with the wings would be painfully obvious to recognize later.
Illusia looked around the ball for the targets. He located a couple but lost one after the target had been whisked away by a girl. Tilting his head curiously at a girl with silvery-blond hair, similar to Arston's, Illusia approached her. His midnight blue suit helped Illusia looked as casual as an innocent. He approached the girl with silvery-blond hair and held out his hand. "Care to dance?" he asked the woman. In his mind, he felt terrible, absolutely miserable. Here he was, thinking that he might as well get some fun in a dance out of this, and yet he might end up having to kill the very woman he was asking to dance. It made his insides churn with sorrow.

Re: Masquerade
Reb watched as the people walked, danced and had fun. She was sitting at a table near a corner. The loud color of her dress was throwing her off. She also stunk at dancing. There had never been an instance in her life when dancing had been needed. She thought it frivolous, but watching now made her wished she'd learned.
Zantya twirled over the dance floor. Her partner was unknown to her, but an-exceptional dancer. She kept her eyes on the other dancers and smiled as they passed. She was having fun, her tinkling laughter filling the room. A ball was a rare thing and she planned to take full advantage of this one.

Re: Masquerade
Caete chuckled at the woman who walked up to him, looking her up and down, "You say that as if I'm in costume, ma'am. Although you probably assume the wings are fake, hence why you would say that." He let out a charming laugh, and nodded to the man who walked up to them, seeming uncomfortable. "Well yes, for a ball I suppose it isn't so bad. How about for you, sir?" He shuffled his feet and looked from the woman to him, debating whether he should ask her to dance.
Iz saw a white haired girl take Hawke away and chuckled as he fumbled with his steps, knowing full well that he was embarrassed as could be. She pattered along, looking at the other dancers, thinking about claiming someone to dance with.
Aescix walked along the tables, already having seen Caete. He decided to lie low, until the plan actually had begun. Instead he glanced at a woman in an ice blue dress, sitting alone, watching the dance floor with slight interest. He fiddled with the small black mask covering his eyes, and thought.
He hadn't danced since he lived in Ellesmera, and he couldn't see the harm, so he moved forward, his dark wings melding against the back of his dark gray suit. "Excuse me, would you like to dance?" He held out his hand, in case the woman decided to.
Soleil made her way through the door into the ballroom and sighed. She wasn't interested in dancing, and really, she wasn't interested in much else besides getting rid of some of the targets, if only to get her on the kings good side. She immediately moved over to the punch table and daintily grabbed a glass, sipping out of it.

Re: Masquerade
"Ooohh, so you mean to tell me they're real?" Raven asked, chuckling slightly. Truth be told, she had recently met a young boy with wings, so the idea that this man's wings were real was not that far-fetched. "I have to say, that's the best accessory I've seen all night," she chuckled, really having no idea what she was talking about. All she really wanted was to not get left sitting at a table by herself, because whether she would admit it or not, she really did want to have a little fun here tonight.
She looked up, and then up some more, until she was looking at the mask of the man who joined them. "I suppose it's fun, if you actually know how to dance," she chuckled dryly in answer to his question.
Arston threw his hands up in mock relief. "So you mean I'm not the only one here who can't dance? Whew, I thought I was in trouble there for a moment," he said sarcastically. "What she said," he chuckled to the winged man. Despite himself, the conversation with these two was lightening his mood slightly, most likely because it took his mind off of what he would have to do later. "I don't know about you two, but I'm a little thirsty, shall I get drinks for all of us?" he asked politely, with a little bow to the lady.
"There now, see? Not that difficult," Lu chuckled, grinning up at her dance partner. He seemed unsure of what to do, so she quietly took the lead. For his sake she was glad that it was a relatively slow, yet peppy tune. Just right for everyone else to focus on their own feet and not snicker at the bumblers. "Well look at that, light on your feet and quick to learn! You're a natural sir, nothing to be nervous about! Maybe I can give you a few pointers before you ask the beauty over there in the black dress to dance. She's been watching you for awhile," she said confidentially, tapping his shoulder lightly when she knew the girl would be in his sight.
Aero quietly watched the people on the dance floor, thinking she should have come with someone else. Her escort had apparently decided to spend the rest of the night with his friend, because they were still out on the floor dancing. She was so distracted that she jumped a little bit when a man appeared before her and asked her to dance. She smiled at him and took his hand. "I would be happy to," she said sweetly, allowing herself to be led onto the dance floor.

Re: Masquerade
Hawke couldn't help but glance over at the woman his dance partner had been referring to. Indeed, this woman wore a knee-length black dress with complementing white feathers from the hip down. For some reason, he felt that he should know her from somewhere. He turned back to face his dance partner. "Uh, yeah, that would be helpful," he admitted sheepishly. "What's your name? Mine is Hawke."
Crugan just hung out by the punch bowl. He couldn't bring himself to ask someone to dance. It didn't make sense to do so when many of these people were just going to die later.
Illusia smiled as she accepted his offer and grasped his hand. He led her to the dance floor, still holding her hand. When he found a good spot, he stopped and put his other hand on her waist. "May I ask for your name? Mine is Illusia," Illusia smiled briefly. He was really hoping that her name wasn't on the list. He had the list memorized after studying it prior to the dance.

Re: Masquerade
Reb looked up in surprise when the man asked herto dance. " I.....I would love to. Though I must warn you I have no skill whatsoever." Reb warned laughing, as she took his hand. She reluctantly let him draw her to the dance floor. She only prayed she didn't mess up or fall flat on her face. The heels didn't help.
Zantya finally had to call it quits, her breathing fast after her dance. She found a table and sat down quickly. She smiled and looked around her. The ball was going well. Many people seemed to be having fun. There were small groups milling around, making small talk.
Letheona put her mask on , the shape one of a wolf. She scanned the room. She knew that both of her targets were pigheaded enough to come to this ball, ignoring the advice of others. Now her only problem was finding, and watching them. Her long red gown brushed the floor, swaying as she walked. She looked innocent enough.

Re: Masquerade
Aescix chuckled as the woman took his hand, "Don't worry, I'm not the most accomplished dancer either." He smiled, though his mask hid it, "This way, if we mess up, it will simply look like we were ment to dance together." He chuckled again and gently placed his hand on her waist, before waiting a moment, and then moving his legs.
Caete's eyes narrowed behind his half-mask ever so slightly. "No thank you, kind sir, but I've already got a drink." He grinned, and scanned the room, attempting to distract himself.
Soleil was smoothing out her short red dress, unconciously tugging at the ornate mask that she was wearing. She looked around the ball room, eyes ghosting over the guests. Her eyes focused on a random splotch of white hair and her stomach jumped. The white hair was dancing with a man with shaggy black hair.
Soleil instantly thought of Lu, considering she was the only person with stark white hair that she knew. She moved forward, as if on the prowl. She wasn't sure if it was Lu, because of the stupid ring on her finger, but she was willing to take the risk of discovering whether the dancer was or wasn't her.
Iz yawned, moving to sit down at a table, quietly watching the other patrons dance. She was content to simply sit and observe for the time being.

Re: Masquerade
"I'll get you a refill then," Arston said cheerfully, turning and walking off. He was surprised at how many people were actually dancing now. It seemed as if only a few brave souls had been out on the floor when he had first crossed it to get to the man with wings, but now there were more of them. He even spotted what he would bet good money on was a dance lesson. The teacher, a white haired woman in a pinkish-red dress, seemed to know what she was doing. Or maybe she can just dodge really well. he thought, watching their feet move. He shook his head and continued on toward the punch bowls.
The Rider dipped two cups from one bowl, and the third from a different. He wasn't sure if the woman was a target yet, so only the man would be receiving a dose of magic-inhibiting drug for now. It was tasteless and virtually undetectable. He probably wouldn't even notice until he tried to use his magic. Arston turned and walked back to them, smiling painfully bright at everyone he saw.
"Oh, by the way, my name is Arturos," he said to them. He used his dragon's name on the off chance that they had heard of his own.
Raven took her glass of punch, frowning slightly. Where had she heard that name before?
"Thank you for the drinks," she said, lifting her glass in thanks.
"I'm Aero, pleased to meet you Illusia," Aero said with a smile. Her smile faltered a bit when she saw the man in the green tunic walking across the dance floor. Here I am trying to avoid looking at him, and he keeps turning up everywhere I look. she grumbled to herself. She looked up into the eyeholes of Illusia's mask. "So Illusia, how are you enjoying the ball so far?" she asked to distract herself. The music changed to something with an even faster tempo than the last.
Lu couldn't help chuckling at the tone of Hawke's voice. "Alright, here's what you do," she said, showing him the steps and twists of the dance. "You can call me Lu," she added, before charging on into another routine with the changing music. Either he would learn quickly, or fall on his face. Illuna had the feeling that the woman in black wouldn't mind either way.

Re: Masquerade
Illusia felt a dreading surprise enter him, but he restrained it under a pleased gaze. He cursed Galbatorix, cursed this stupid, forsaken plan. All he wanted was to live a life of peace, but if he actually went through with this, peace would never come. Even if Galbatorix, for some unfathomable reason, released him from his oaths, he would always remember the blood he had spilled. The people that didn't deserve to die. He was caught out of his stupor by Aero's question, and forced a smile, though it was hidden from under the mask. "It's surprisingly more pleasant than I thought it would be," Illusia admitted, which was the truth. "What about you?" Then his gaze was serious for a moment. "It's a little odd that most here were invited by some unknown source, don't you think?" Illusia asked. His oaths prevented him from saying anything more, but he hoped that she would at least understand the oddity of this event. He had said 'most', instead of 'all'. Hopefully, she would get the signals. Of course, she probably wouldn't take them seriously. Why would she? It was a ball for crying out loud; this would be the oddest place for there to be danger? Yet it was all so suspiciously convenient.
Hawke followed the movements with surprising ease, but he still wanted to use his Sight. Maybe he should. It would be very beneficial to him if he did. Just as he was pondering his decision, the music changed into a sudden fast tempo, and Luna, in response, performed an entire new arsenal of dance moves that Hawke struggled to follow. Nevertheless, he still managed to follow them. His gaze flicked to the woman in black, and his eyes widened as he thought. Puzzle pieces began to randomly fit into place. Black...Shruikan...mistake...Isabelle! He dismissed the thought. Despite the feeling he felt when he looked at the woman, the feeling that he had seen her before, he doubted that she was Iz.

Re: Masquerade
Reb laughed as she took his hand, and placed her other on his shoulder. She took. Deep breath and then followed his lead. She felt like the worst dancer in the world, wishing she had some skills. Slowly she began to relax, and eventually began to enjoy the dance. It was new and fun. A rare smile touched her lips, and soon she was fully enjoying herself.
Zantya smiled as the dancers passed her, and she saw their joy. She thought she recognized a few of them. Though she wouldn't check to see if she was right. The point the point of the ball was annominity. She stood up and walked to the punch bowl, but she had to stop a few times to pick up her gown. The material swallowed her tiny form. Leth smiled an evil smile. She would recognize her sister' new form any day. The short blonde woman in te black dress was her worst enemy. Though it was a little odd to see the former shade as a human. Leth crossed her legs and leaned back. Her sister had done a good job at hiding, she would've pegged her as a white dress kind of person, but black looked good on her.
Now her only problem was finding her sister's former host. Reb was also her worst enemy and she refuse to lose this chance. Keeping an eye on Zantya she searched for Reb. She was rather sour about having killed Zantya once. But alas Zantya's sniveling husband had to return her back to life.

Re: Masquerade
Aescix chuckled with the woman, liking how it was easy to move with her, "See, you're really not bad at this." He smiled gently, feeling content for the first time in a very long time. He flicked his eyes to the side of them, watching out so that they wouldn't run into anyone, knowing that they were both inexperienced.
Soleil sniffed and walked towards the white haired woman, conceitedly squaring her shoulders and hardening her eyes behind the rather ornate red mask. He strode up behind the woman, sizing her up and deciding she was the right height, and had the same unruly hair as Soleil. So she shrugged, and stepped forward, tapping the girl on her shoulder and then stepping back ever so slightly, crossing her arms and narrowing her eyes. Her stature should give her away as to who she was if this was her sister, but it was always hard to tell with this stupid ring on.
Caete nodded as the man handed him a cup and simply held it in his hand. He wasn't sure he liked the idea of other people getting his drinks for him so he gently used his nail to carve a rite into the side of the glass, looking for any kind of poisons or magical inhibitors in the drink. When he used his sight on the glass after using the right it glowed a sickly green color, indicating something in the drink.
He ended the use of his sight and looked back at the man, putting a smile on his face, "Thank you very much, my name is Riakal. I come from the Beor's." He decided to use his father's name, hesitant on giving the man information on who he truly was and where he was from.
Iz yawned again, her hand cupping her chin gently as she watched the people dancing. She felt her eyes slip closed as she dozed, letting her mind gently flit through the things that had happened in the past. The King, her new powers. She was so tired, she thought she would never be rested again after that ordeal.
She stood abruptly, picking up her glass again and heading for the drinks table, getting more and the settled to look around the room, noticing two winged men on opposite sides of the room. She shook her head, thinking she recognized the wings of one, but the other had dark wings, unlike her friend Caete's. She shook her head again and leaned up against the drinks table, sighing.

Re: Masquerade
Raven took her drink and sipped it quietly. She was still trying to figure out where she had heard that name before. The problem was, it made her a little uneasy, and it was unlike her to forget the name of an enemy. She noticed the winged man, Riakal, eye the side of his cup for a moment, then look up with a smile. The Rider's eyes narrowed, that smile had a bit of tightness to it. She downed the rest of her cup and set it aside. "Well, I don't know what it is about that punch, but it makes me feel like I could dance all night. Come on young sir, show me what you can do!" she said, grabbing Riakal's hand and pulling him onto the dance floor.
"Oh, and you can call me Rena," she said with a smile.
Arston watched the girl, Rena as he heard her say, pull Riakal away. He knew full well that the man's name was Caete, but he wasn't going to say so and give the game away. Well, he would have, but of course he couldn't. He took an angry gulp of punch, then grimaced at the cup. There was not nearly enough alcohol in the drink to make him forget what was going to happen all too soon.
Lu smiled at her dance partner, then released him. "Alright, now go talk to her! You can keep up with her fairly well now, if she's any kind of dancer, and I don't want to deprive her of your company any longer," she teased. She was about to go grab another hapless gentleman when she felt someone tap her on the shoulder. Thinking someone else wanted to dance, she turned. And then backed right up as a familiar stubborn, annoyed posture greeted her eyes.
"Lei?" she asked in astonishment. She looked the woman up and down. She certainly wasn't dressed like her twin, in that dress and vibrant red mask. Soleil hated parties, so what was she doing here? Lu flashed her left hand at the woman, showing the ring that inhibited all of her powers. If this was her twin, she would not only know what it did, but would have one as well.
Aero giggled at Illusia's comment about the party. "Yes, it is better than I would have imagined." She frowned when he started talking about how odd it all was. "Really? I wouldn't know. I'm only visiting the city for a few days, and while I was walking down the street by all those high-end shops, some lord's son or another asked me to accompany him. I think he did it to annoy his parents. His mother certainly looked scandalized enough, although I think I should have said no," she chuckled, waving a vague hand in the direction of her escort. He was currently surrounded by a posse of air-headed daughters of nobility. "So I take it you received a mysterious invitation?" she said lightly. She was inclined to think it was nothing, that he was only trying to spook her, but it would be a fun conversation anyway.

Re: Masquerade
Hawke nodded with a slightly embarrassed smile, waving a hand in a brief farewell to Luna. He sighed, mentally preparing himself, before walking over to the woman in the black dress. He extended his hand, putting on a smile even though it was hidden by the mask. "Excuse me, would you care to dance?" Hawke asked the woman politely.
It was a good thing they weren't speaking in the Ancient Language, was Illusia's thought as she asked him about the invitation. Feigning a smile, he said, "Yeah, I received one." Then he laughed (one which was genuine) at Aero's story of how she got here. "That's quite an interesting story. I didn't have an escort to this dance, so I wasn't expecting to dance with such a pretty woman," Illusia smiled, thinking back on where he had heard her name before. Yes...he could vaguely remember Arston speaking about Aero, but what was the Dragon Rider's connection to the woman? Illusia pondered for an answer, but when one didn't come to him, he stopped the endeavor and focused on the dance.

Re: Masquerade
Reb marveled at how much fun dancing could be. He partner was a quick stepper, and for that she was grateful. She also liked that even though she was talk, she didn't dwarf er partner. "My name is....Rebekah.....what us yours?" she questioned politely as they twirled. The other dancers flying by.
(ooc: fallen I assume your talking to Zantya, but if not I'll edit) Zantya smiled when she was asked to dance, and took the man's hand. She loved dancing and would oblige any that asked. Though before the night was over she full expected to be sore, or at the very least tired.
Leth was bored. She had never any need for frivolity such as this. There was a war to be fought, one she fully intended to win. Her life was simple, her plan was too. No she didnt plan to serve the king forever, but helping him at the moment was in her best interest. There would be plenty of time later to kill Galby. She smiled at that. She would be pleased to end his wretched life, but alas a good pawn was essential.

Re: Masquerade
Soleil lifted her left hand, showing the ring to her sister, "What are you doing here?" She scowled, even though she knew the mask would hide it. She shifted uncomfortably and moved closer to her sister, "You don't know when to stay away from things, do you?" She glanced around, watching carefully.
Caete's eyes widened as Rena pulled him away, "Well okay." He gently placed his hand on the young woman's waist, then he held out his other for her hand. He glanced back at the man who called himself Arturos, and studied his expression, "Interesting ball, isn't it, ma'am?"
Aescix smiled, even though it wasn't visible, "Very nice to meet you Rebekah. My name is Aescix." He was taken by surprise at how enjoyable the dancing was. "You know, I believe you are a natural dancer." He smiled again.
Iz smiled at Hawke, and stood, taking his hand, "Of course." She wondered if she should speak more, so that he could realize who she was. but she decided to keep quiet for now. She swung her hair as she stood, her heels clicking against the floor. She placed her hand on his shoulder and smiled, happy that she had decided to wear a mask that only covered her eyes and nose.

Re: Masquerade
"Interesting? Yes, I suppose you could say that," she said, watching his eyes through his mask. Her own hazel ones narrowed as he looked back at Arturos. "So are you going to tell me why you're so tight all of a sudden when you look at our friend over there?" she asked nonchalantly, smiling. She took his hand and started dancing, although rather jerkily. She had never been very good at dancing, unless it involved swords and fists.
Aero blushed slightly when he called her pretty. She had never been very comfortable when people talked about her looks. "Thank you for such a nice compliment, you don't look half bad yourself," she said, looking down shyly. She saw feathers out of the corner of her eye and looked up just as they twirled past a man with wings. "Well that's a new one," she said, shocked. She shook her head slightly and looked back up at Illusia. "Why do you say your invitation was odd?" she asked, keeping up the conversation.
Arston was getting tired of standing around. He wanted to do something. He saw the white-haired woman from earlier talking to another woman with a similar hair-cut, but with black hair. He gritted his teeth in determination and walked up to them, bowing politely. "Would either of you care to dance?" he said, trying to keep a light tone. He thought a bit of his nervousness might have leaked through, but he kept a straight face.
Lu smiled when she saw the copper-and-gold ring on the woman's finger. "It is you!" she said happily, hugging her sister. "As for what I'm doing here, I'm having fun. I heard there was a nice dance going to be held here tonight, and I gate crashed," she explained, blushing slightly when she said "gate crashed". She was just about to ask Soleil what she was doing here, when a tall man in a black, full-face mask that left his chin and mouth uncovered, approached them.
She giggled a little bit at the nervousness in his voice. "All of you would-be wallflowers are coming out of the woodwork tonight," she said with a grin. "But, I'm afraid I'll have to decline. I was just getting ready to go get some punch. My sister, however, would be more than happy to oblige." And with that, she pushed Soleil onto his proffered arm and sped off, laughing the whole way.

Re: Masquerade
OOC: When are the baddies going to make their move, Saph? IC: Hawke couldn't help but smile back as the woman he began to dance with smiled. When she gently placed her hand on his shoulder, he couldn't help but notice something very particular about the arm. On the wrist, just below where it joined into her hand, was the tattoo of a scorpion. Hawke could vaguely remember such a tattoo from somewhere...but where? Then it all hit him like a pile of bricks, and everything made sense again. The long black hair, the tattoo on her wrist, the way she smiled at him from almost out of nowhere. "Iz?" he murmured in almost a whisper. When Illusia told her that she was pretty, he noticed that she acted as if she had heard it a lot before. Like it didn't really mean anything now. Illusia recognized the male dancer as Aescix. Aero probably thought it was some sort of prop. After all, it wasn't everyday someone met someone with wings. When Aero asked him another question, he phrased his words carefully. He couldn't say much without revealing the truth. Looking away sheepishly, he replied, "I'm not really sure. But the person who sent the invitation was anonymous. There was no nothing whatsoever on the message that resembled any sort of connection to someone. Furthermore, we haven't even seen the person who sent out the invitations here at this dance." That he could say quite truthfully. "I mean, these punch bowls couldn't have set themselves up, right? Why would someone send an invitation to a ball without even greeting those whom arrive? I just hope I'm not being overly paranoid about this," he muttered.

For the first time in he life Reb blushed. She smiled and looked down. Her whole face warmed, and she hide it. "Thank you. You are a gooddancer yourself. I dare say that for being unnexspierenced we are doing great!" Reb said, and watched as a couple twirled by. Zantya took danced with the strange man, twirling happily.(I'm aware it's not Hawke)

Re: Masquerade
Iz smiled wider, gently twirling with Hawke, "Hello Hawkie. It's very nice to see you again." She grinned, flashing a mischevious look in her eyes. "At least you can't mistake me for Galbatorix while I'm wearing this." She moved her hips slightly, showing off her dress to him. She smiled again.
Soleil's eye twitched. Her sister just pushed her onto a complete stranger, wearing a black mask. She was mad. More than mad, and she wondered if she should maybe be kind to the man. Let hims off slowly, rather than spite him with her tongue. She decided that was a stupid idea. "Back off, buzz brain. I don't want to dance. She's being a dimwit." She began to step away, snapping her hand and arm away from the man's.
"Well, ma'am. I may not look like much. But I'm certainly bright enough to know when someone tries to give me a inhibtor hidden in a drink. Especially after I'd already said I'd had a drink." He flashed her a grin, and twirled her around for a moment. He watched her movements, "Calm down, you wont dance well if you're jerking you're limbs."
Aescix chuckled, "I certainly agree!" He gave her a twirl, and pulled her back. "I'd daresay that this has been the best part of this ball so far." He grinned charmingly at her.

Re: Masquerade
Arston almost choked up right there when the white-haired woman pushed her sister into him. He was still a little tongue-tied when the black-haired one proceeded to fillet him with her tongue. Just as she walked off, he frowned, coming back to his senses. "Now wait just a moment!" he growled, grabbing her arm and spinning her back around. "I came over here and politely asked for a dance, and then you spear me with that tongue of yours! I'll not be having any of that," he said in a tone with just a hint of indignity. He grasped her hand and forcefully tugged her along in a dance.
He wasn't hurting her, but he was definitely going to get his dance before this all came crumbling down. He knew it couldn't be much longer.
"A power inhibitor? Oh, that is very bad... This is very... not good," Raven said, peering around slowly, her eyes full of suspicion. She reached for her own power and frowned. It was definitely there and she could access it, but if felt blurred and dull. She didn't know how that was possible, but it was. "Riakal, I can feel my magic, but it's... blurred. What are the chances of us making it out of here without being stopped?" she asked quietly. She scowled fiercely at him when he told her to calm down so she'd stop jerking.
Mumbling furiously, she employed a sort of meditation trick she had learned. It was just enough to slow her heartbeat and relax her muscles, but not make her lose awareness of her surroundings.
"Illusia, if I didn't know better, I would say you're trying to warn me about something," Aero said slowly, looking into the eyes of his mask. Maybe she was the paranoid one now, but there was a bit of desperation about him, like he was hoping she would pick something up that he was trying to tell her. She stepped a little closer to him as the music changed to a slow dance, obviously meant for couples. "Everyone is a little too preoccupied with themselves to bother listening to us, why don't you just tell me what it is?" she asked, watching as the other dancers moved around them.
The smirk on Lu's face as she watched the big man in the black mask grab her sister ought to have been illegal. She watched in supreme amusement as he practically dragged her sister along. He was tall enough that he was holding her slightly off of the ground. "I don't know what she's so ornery about, he's a very good dancer. It'll do her some good to be humbled like that," she chuckled. Still, she would keep a very close eye on them. That was her sister after all.

Re: Masquerade
IC: Hawke could only stare - mouth agape - as Iz confirmed his suspicions. His cheeks were warming quickly for two reasons. One, she had teased him about the incident in the Empire. Secondly, he was dancing with her while she was doing it! He removed his hands and backed away slowly. "Uhm...I think I'll get a..Do you want any..." Unable to form words, he simply turned tail and ran towards the punch table. His cheeks were burning from embarrassment, and what does he do? He sticks his head in the punch bowl in an attempt to cool down. In a few moments, he came back up. Just then, the music changed to a much slower pace.
OOC: Sorry about the punch bowl everyone. GA made me do it!
IC: A red tint flared slightly on Illusia's cheeks as the music changed to that of a slow dance. He could only look away sheepishly at her request. True, he wanted to tell her absolutely everything so badly, but he couldn't. In fact, he had just about said everything he could under his oaths. He didn't want to see the look of betrayal in her eyes when he would he forced to do what he had to do. "I want to...but I can't. I really want to," he said, staring at her intently.

Re: Masquerade
Iz followed Hawk, her heels clicking gently as she walked. She watched him closely, cocking her head to the side. Then there was the distinctive splooshing sound of something going into liquid and she froze.
He had just dumped his head into the punch bowl. She cringed and quickly covered her mouth with her hand, fighting back a giggle. She walked up next to him and grabbed several napkins, pulling his shoulders gently, and facing him towards herself, "Did that cool you off?" She took a napkin and dabbed at his mask, and face, smiling. "On second thought, I dont think I want any punch, dear." She giggled, and kept dabbing at his face, "Oh gosh. You're dripping everywhere." She giggled again, biting down on her lip, then grabbed his hand, and dragged him toward a table.
"You're correct, it isnt good. And we have no chance of escaping." Caete glanced around, looking for any incriminating figures, seeing only a couple, shifty-ish people, he turned, "I see a couple people who may be in on the deal..."
Soleil was seething, she turned, glaring at the man who had a hold on her, "I will not dance with you. I dont dance, certainly not with annoying lugs like you." She yanked her hand backward, and though she couldn't get free, she was dragging him along with her. She started mumbling to herself about moronic idiots, who didnt understand simple things like not wanting to dance.

Re: Masquerade
OOC: Have your characters start noticing weird stuff, my next post is going to be...interesting. "That's okay, I only want one short dance, surely that won't make you burst into flame," Arston said, digging in his heels. He twirled her around by her arm to stop her forward motion, then put his hand on her waist and set off into a fast paced dance that wouldn't give her time to attempt a getaway. He watched in astonishment as some guy, the one who had dropped his mask earlier, dunked his head in the punch bowl. It was the guy's bad luck that it was one of the dosed bowls. Arston shook his head and looked back at his partner."Yeah, I see a couple as well. And you're not the only one with costume wings," Raven replied distractedly, catching a glimpse of black wings out of the corner of her eye. "Let's start edging towards the door. At the very least if anyone comes through them to attack, we can catch them by surprise and take their weapons," she whispered, her lips barely moving.Aero's lips twitched as Illusia blushed at the change of music, but she was too unnerved by his behavior to really smile. "Illusia, I think I'm finally understanding what you're telling me. I think I'm going to get a drink," she said, her voice slightly higher than usual. Her violet eyes flicked around the room, looking for an escape. She stepped back from him and curtsied, then turned and all but ran away.
She had to get out. She didn't know for sure, but the only thing that made sense with what he had been saying, was that Galbatorix had something to do with this. Otherwise what was with all the he wanted to tell her, but couldn't? She wasn't watching where she was walking and bumped into a black-haired woman in a red dress, who was dancing with the man that so strongly reminded her of Arston. "Sorry," she squeaked, hurrying away again.

Re: Masquerade
"Uh...yeah, a little bit," Hawke replied, an embarrassed smile on his tanned face. He couldn't think of a reason as to why he just dumped his head in a punch bowl. Well, hopefully no one drank out of it, or they might sue for finding hairs in their drinks. Hawke gripped the mask as Iz dabbed at it with some napkins she had accumulated. He thought about taking it off--for it was now dripping and slightly red in color--but decided against it. Hawke thought for a moment that when she grabbed his hand gently that she would wish to dance again, but she pulled him towards a table.
He took a seat and began to draw on a warm breeze to dry his face and hair, but he found the task suddenly difficult. He furrowed his eyebrows in confusion and tried again; this time it was harder to reach for his magic. It gradually got harder and harder until he couldn't reach for his magic at all. Hawke's eyes widened, and his gaze flickered over to the punch bowl. Damn! he berated himself. He grabbed Iz's hand and drew her away from the table into a corner where no one would hear them conversing over the music. "Iz, there's something wrong. I...I can't reach for my magic. I think the punch was drugged," he said seriously. He looked around the room, surveying everyone. He was becoming more and more anxious; if there was a fight here, he could hardly defend himself. He didn't have his sword, and now he couldn't access his magic. Iz was the only person he trusted here, except for maybe Luna.
Illusia felt disheartened as Aero practically ran away from him. It made sense to do so, since he was an enemy and all, but he hated it when people ran away from him. It made him feel like a monster, when he in fact wasn't responsible for what he was doing. Still, at least she had taken his warning seriously. Illusia glanced around the room; the tension was rising, and it felt like something was about to happen.
Crugan smiled a murderous grin, although it was hidden by his mask. He could feel it: the rising tension, the ascending fear...everyone was becoming more and more wary, and things were about to reach a breaking point. He was vaguely aware of the throwing dagger hidden in the sleeve of his tuxedo. One move, and he could down someone immediately, and that was what he planned to do, when the time was right.

Re: Masquerade
Muuuuaaaaaaah! I'm in an instigating mood.
Ic: Reb was amazed at how quickly and easily she lost herself in the dance. They twirled endlessly and Reb giggled. Movement to her left caught her eye, and as they twirled she looked that way. A lithe, pale woman I a red dress stood not far from them. The movement Reb had glimpsed was the woman in red swaying. The closer they twirled to the mystery woman, the more Reb was overcome with dread.
The form was all to familiar, as was the odd swaying. Only one person in her whole life had done that. He gaze traveled up the woman, noting each detail, they eyes causing her chills. Staring back at her was Letheona. Evil she-witch who followed Galby. Letheona grinned as if sensing Reb's recognition of her.
For the first time that night Reb stumbled, abruptly ending her dance with the handsome stranger. She lost her balance and grabbed his arm for support. "Letheona." she snarled.
Zantya was oblivious as she drank her punch, though losin interest in the fruity beverage when te poor, confused man used his head as a cup. She politely sat her cup down and turned to watch the dancers. She hid a gape when a young woman tripped up on the floor, and looked away. Embarrassed forthe young woman. She was about to walk away completely when a name she had hoped to never hear again was snarled.
Zantya whirled back to the dancefloor and reevaluated the situation. Before her were two equally strong women, one in red the other in ice blue. Two women she would never be able to forget. Reb and Letheona.
Letheona licked her lips in anticipation when se caught sight of Reb, and almost laughed wen Reb recognized her. This was too good! The utterly ridiculous plan was working. She grinned when Reb snarled her name. "Ahhh dear Reb I see you havent forgotten me. What a pleasant surprise. Whatever on earth brings you here?" she asked sweet as sin.

Aescix looked carefully at the woman in red, and caught Rebekah with ease, gently holding her up by placing one of his hands on her back. Then he realized that the woman in red was from the meeting with Galbatorix. Which posed a problem for him. If Rebekah was on the list, then he was supposed to aid in fighting her, but he actually enjoyed her company. He remained silent, watching the other woman.
He really was only here for Caete, that had been clear, even from the meeting, so it wouldn't be unusual for him to take Rebekah's side if he wished. Galbatorix couldn't really controll his wishes after all.
Caete's eyes widened, "Another with wings? I was serious when I said they were real, you can touch them." He let his eyes slide along the walls and he edged their dancing through the crowd, unconciously moving away from the other winged man.
Soleil scowled, "If I absolutely have to do this then you better damn well make it worth my while, buzz brain." She huffed, and her lips turned down, putting an indifferent look on her face. If she'd had her powers she was sure she would have blown him back a couple feet, but the combination of the ring and the formal ball were keeping her from doing this.
Iz narrowed her eyes, "Inhibitor." She glanced around, then placed her hand on Hawke's shoulder, pulling him down to her, tilting her head to face him. His head was in front of hers, making it look like they were kissing rather than talking about escaping, "If the punch was full of inhibitor, then it will be a while before you can use you're magic." She frowned, "In hindsight, perhaps that wasnt the smartest thing you've done." She was teasing lightly, before her lips pursed, "There's only one other person I've recognized thus far, and his dance partner and him are moving that way."
She looked over Hawke's face, assessing his appearance, then gently ran her hand over his hair, making sure it was still presentable, "I hope you're ready to dance with me, Hawkie, because we need to get over there." She nodded towards Caete and the woman next to him.

Re: Masquerade
Raven looked up at Caete, reaching out with her left hand to feel his wing. Her jaw dropped when she felt the warm feathers and muscles. "You...you really weren't kidding," she said, her mouth dry. She had thought Jason was one of a kind when she met him, but apparently not. She eyed the other winged man carefully. He was now standing in a slightly protective stance in front of his partner, who was snarling at another woman, this one frail-looking and wearing a red dress.
"I take it from the look on what little of your face I can see, that you are not happy to see this other person?" she asked casually as they slipped through the crowd. She was starting to see signs of unease and anticipation in the body language of everyone she looked at, but that didn't necessarily mark any of them as having anything to do with the drugged punch. And then it hit her.
"Oh...well now don't I feel like a complete dunce? Perhaps we should hurry up this little charade and get to the door. I remembered where I'd heard his name before," she said, jerking her chin at Arturos. There were two women with him, one running away and the other gripped rather tightly in his bear-like hands.
Arston grinned toothily down at his partner, and whirled around lightly on his feet, pulling her gently with him. "Oh I think I can manage that at least," he chuckled. She had a lot of temper to her, and it amused him. They don't come like this in the castle, he chortled, spinning her away from him and pulling her back with his right hand. He barely acknowledged the woman in the purple dress that bumped into them. He nodded at her and turned away, but not before noticing her silvery-blonde hair.
He opened his mouth to comment on his partner's dress when they passed the door and he noticed a man in a black shirt and grey tunic enter through it. That was the signal. The attack was mere moments away. He gritted his teeth and started wishing Galbatorix had allowed Arturos to act as back-up. All he had to rely on was a few hundred Imperial soldiers, which wouldn't do him much good in these tight quarters.
Aero had almost reached the door when a man entered the ball room and looked around. She saw him look straight at the man that looked like Arston, and nod. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw the other man tense up as he danced past. Her face blanched and she tried to walk past the man in the grey tunic, but he stepped in front of her and cut her off.
"I'm sorry ma'am, but the host is about to make an appearance, and has requested that everyone remain in the ballroom," he said in a friendly tone, gesturing for her to sit at a nearby table.
"Oh, of course," she said, quickly turning around and searching for a friendly face. She saw Illusia still standing on the dance floor, looking slightly dejected. Her instincts told her he was in on whatever was about to happen, but she also felt that he wasn't happy about it. Which meant that maybe she could get him to help her.
She marched straight over to him and stared up into the eyeholes of his mask. "Help me Illusia," was all she said.
Lu gagged on her punch as her sister willingly, albeit grumpily, allowed the man to continue dancing with her. She grinned, willing to bet money on what kind of thoughts Soleil was having at the moment. "Having a good time?" she called out cheerily as they sauntered past, lifting her punch glass in a toast.

Re: Masquerade
Hawke's eyes widened when Iz pulled him close enough to where their noses were almost touching. A light crimson flushed on his cheeks, and he replied, "Yeah, I haven't done many smart things around you, it seems." Hawke glanced in the direction Iz was indicating, and was surprised to find a man with wings dancing with a woman. Were the wings real, or a prop? Since Iz knew him, there was no telling. Hawke took a breath, "Ok," and then he clasped her hand in his and placed his other hand near her waist. He glanced again at the pair to know where he and Iz were supposed to be going. "Alright, let's move," he said softly and began in that direction.Illusia silently watched Aero as she made for the exit. She was so close! He urged her on mentally, but then at probably the worst possible moment, a man with a black shirt and gray tunic walked in. Illusia recognized him immediately and cursed as he stopped Aero. Over the sound of music and talking, he caught enough bits and pieces of what the man said to know that he had stopped Aero and probably made up some excuse.
Why was this happening? She was so close to leaving this place and avoiding the conflict, but then the signal--in the shape and form of a man--had come, ruining everything. Illusia cursed himself, his life, and this terrible mission. For the first time in a century, he had actually felt like he had helped someone. He was thinking that if this continued, maybe his true name could change. But of course, that would simply be too easy. Life was too unfair to make great accomplishments like that even the tiniest bit easy. He almost collapsed, feeling a spasm of pain in his mind. His hand immediately came to his temple, where the majority of the pain was coming from? What was happening now? He felt like his mind...his entire identity was on fire, burning into non-existence. The pain was nearly overwhelming, and he was on the verge of blacking out when a voice broke through it all.
For some reason, Illusia had never found it this easy to say, "Yeah. Yeah, Aero, I'll help you." Crugan, through the massive crowd of people here, almost missed the signal. A man in a black shirt and gray tunic walked in, giving a brief nod to Arston, before stopping a woman from leaving. Crugan drew closer to Arston, waiting for the final signal to attack. Everything was leading down to this moment; surely they couldn't fail. Not with this much preparation. Crugan hated to admit it, but the king's seemingly holed plan seemed to be working almost flawlessly.OOC: Saph, I hope you don't mind his true name changing right here. If you do, though, I'll change it.

Re: Masquerade
Reb stared in shock at Letheona, and almost fainted when Zantya made an appearance. This was all to much, and she was overly grateful when her partner laid a supporting hand on her back. Letheona smarted off in her usual way causing Reb to grimace. " The only time I shall ever take pleasure in seeing you is seeing you dead!"
Letheona watched as Ascex supported Reb when she tripped, her eyes narrowing. She couldn't quite tell if he was simply playing the part or was really standing with her enemy. Letheona ave him a death glare before turning to her sister. "oh joy now the whole gang is back together!" she said, her words dripping with sarcasm.
