Natagath
Name: Natagath
Age: over 400 years
Gender: Male
Skills: 1. Magic: Natagath has the ability to use complex spells including some of the forbidden dark spells. He can enter the minds of most people, though he often chooses not to and when he does, they are often aware of it. He is particularly skilled in manipulating fire and wind, so much so that he doesn't even have to speak the spells out loud. He literally lives off of magic because he is no longer able to eat or drink (see history). While not exactly skills, Galbatorix put spells on Natagath that make him automatically heal minor injuries with magic, as well as automatically draw magical energy from the world around him to sustain himself. He stores his magic reserves in six silver glass orbs attached to the torso of his armor.
2. Marksmanship: Natagath is an expert shot with his crossbow. He can hit targets that are up to 50 yards away, though he prefers to shoot at closer targets. He can use magic in conjunction with his bolts, making them track a moving target, but he rarely does so because he enjoys the challenge of just aiming and shooting.
3. Melee combat: Natagath is trained to handle various melee weapons. He can fight with either one sword or two. He can also use weapons ranging from spears to battle axes and war hammers. He is also very strong and can dispatch most enemies with a few blows from his deadly fists.
4. Agility: Natagath retains some of his elven abilities, though they are diminished by the heavy armored suit he is forced to wear. Natagath can still run faster than most humans and he still have the fighting abilities of most elves. He can climb cliffs and trees using the spikes on his boots and hands. He can dodge some attacks as well, but not as good as most elves.
Race: Elf
Hair: golden blond (before his transformation)
Eyes: Blue
Home Village: A small Elven settlement that was destroyed during The Fall.
Parents: Egarboth (father) and Mavis (mother)
Siblings: None
Character Personality: The original Natagath, a young, fun loving elf, is dead. He is now a dark and tortured soul, often cynical and sarcastic. Despite everything Galbatorix put him through, however, Natagath's old defiance somehow survived, which led to him sometimes disobeying the king orders. A man who has nothing to lose, Natagath has become arrogant and headstrong. He often back sasses and taunts Galbatorix's other servants because he knows that he is under the king's protection and can get away with it. After all, he defied the king's orders on more than one occasion and lived to fight another day. Deep down though, Natagath is haunted by the atrocities he was forced to carry out and by the memories of his former self. He hates himself for what he has done and regrets the injustices he has caused. More than anything else, Natagath misses his dragon, Violeta, and his time as a Rider. He is now a very lonely man because everyone hates him and sees him as a cold-blooded monster. Natagath is quite the opposite, however. He sometimes helps innocent people in need, whether or not they appreciate his help, (they often run away screaming) and does everything he possibly can to make amends for the pain and suffering he has caused. He is clever and ,for what it's worth, good with words. It usually doesn't do him any good though because people are often too intimidated by his appearance.
EDIT: After he was finally freed from his suit, Natagath's personally slowly began to change. He felt like a new elf and decided to start anew.
Character History: Natagath was born in a small elven settlement within the great forest during the golden age of the Dragon Riders. When he was 100 years old, a dragon egg hatched for him and Natagath was taken to be trained as a dragon rider. For the next two hundred years he served Alagaesia with his dragon, Violeta, helping to keep the peace until Galbatorix went to war with the order. During The Fall of the Riders, Natagath was attacked by the Forsworn on Vroengard and was knocked from his dragon's back, breaking his legs whenhe hit the ground. Unable to get up and fight, he ordered Violeta to flee before severing the bond between them. Though she was reluctant to leave her rider, Natagath made her promise to go into hiding and to avoid being caught. He then expected to be killed, but when Violeta managed to escape, Galbatorix demanded to know where Natagath had sent her. Truthfully, he responded that he didn't know as he had not given her a specific place to hide. However, that was not good enough for the evil tyrant and so the Forsworn brought him back to Urû'baen where they tortured him without mercy. Galbatorix locked the elf in the dungeon for the next twenty years, during which he was constantly abused and tortured. Through it all, Natagath somehow managed to keep his sanity. He was constantly defiant and made numerous escape attempts. Natagath even attempted to kill Shruiken, which was the last straw for Galbatorix. He discovered Natagath's true name and him his slave. When Natagath demanded that Galbatorix kill him, the king instead declared that Natagath should suffer a fate worse than death. He wanted Natagath to suffer as much as possible. The former Rider was placed in his old dragon rider armor, which had been heavily modified, fitted with his weapons, and then magically sealed inside so he couldn't remove it. The king then used magic to enhance the elf’s strength to accommodate the weight of the armor. Galbatorix then took away Natagath's ability to speak physically, reducing him to telepathic communication. Natagath was sentenced to spend the rest of his life like this, a faceless monster that everyone would come to hate. Adding to his punishment, the king told him that should Violeta ever be captured, Natagath would be forced to personally kill his own dragon and present Galbatorix with her eldunari. Natagath was to be part of an experiment which included nine other armor clad worriers. Unlike himself, however, they were Galbatorix's loyal servants and were not magically bound to their armor. Natagath was branded "Number 7" in the new line of supersoldiers. For the next fifty years, Galbatorix forced his new slave to carry out numerous atrocities a including killing entire villages, assassinating members of the Varden along with their families, and even killing a dragon and rider who were hiding in the mountains. Because he never spoke, people got the impression that he was completely emotionless. During this time, all but one of his fellow supersoldiers were killed in combat. The final super soldier, a shade named Drax, turned against Galbatorix and began gathering rebels. In response, Galbatorix declared the experiment a failure and sent Natagath to kill Drax, which he eventually did by ripping Drax's chest plate off and stabbing him through the heart, leaving Natagath as the last remaining super soldier. After fifty years of doing the king's dirty work, Natagath was hated almost as much as Galbatorix himself. In one final cruel move, Galbatorix called Natagath into his chamber and told him that he was free to go. He restored Natagath's ability to speak, though the voice was now gravely and distorted due to his vocal cord not being used for so long. The king refused to free him from his armor unfortunately, and so Natagath is still a faceless monster. The point was to make Natagath continue to suffer so that he would never truly be “free”, instead being hated and hunted everywhere he went. Wanting to make sure that his slave's suffering didn't end, the king forced him to swear an oath not to commit suicide and forbade his servants from killing Natagath. Natagath often confronts the king's servants and takes advantage of the fact that they are not allowed to kill him by mocking and taunting them. Unfortunately he was banned from killing them as well so the fights usually end in a draw. Ever since he was "freed" and the atrocities stopped, people began to believe that the Empire's monster had died. However, Galbatorix occasionally calls Natagath back and makes him carry out a deed or two just ensure that people don't forget what he did. The purpose of this is to insure Natagath doesn't find enough allies to fight back against him. For the time being, Galbatorix doesn’t see Natagath as a real threat to him anymore. Now the dragon rider, a mere shadow of his former self, wanders alone, searching for some glimmer of hope that he will one day be free from his metal prison.
Weapons:
1. Armor: Natagath wears his old dragon rider armor, which he is now magically sealed inside of. (see history) The armor can protect him from most melee attacks, though it is not immune to fire, magic, or well-aimed arrows. It does protect most of his vital areas though so any arrow wound would only be superficial. His gloves have one inch metal spikes on each knuckle and his boots have a sharp spike on both the heel and toe for hand-to-hand combat. For details on the armor's appearance, see Physical Appearance.
2. Arm-mounted crossbow: Natagath now has a crossbow bolted directly to his armor, mounted on his right arm. The crossbow is smaller than a standard crossbow but very unique. The crossbow limbs fold up so that they don't get in Natagath's way when he is fighting with his other weapons. They are spring loaded and can be released by releasing a latch on the side of the crossbow. The triggering mechanism is a small paddle located on of Natagath's palm. He installed a safety device on the crossbow to keep from accidently firing it whenever he made a fist. The crossbow uses a lever action and a clip that holds five additional bolts. When the lever is pushed forward it opens a slider and moves the next bolt into place. When the lever is pulled back, it draws the string back.
3. Folding melee blades: Natagath has two spring loaded folding blades that take the place of a sword. One is located on the underside of each arm and they are magically released into combat position. They have to be manually folded and into place, however. Natagath can fight with just one or both blades. They are basically two curved short swords attached directly to his armored arms to prevent them from being knocked from his grasp. Because they are located on the underside of his arm, they have grips for him to hold on to, though he doesn't have to use them.
4. War Hammer: Natagath is equipped with a weapon that has a war hammer on one side and a battle axe on the other. The weapon is made of steel and has a wood handle. It hangs from Natagath's belt when not in use.
5. Canisters of various poisons: Natagath carries five small canisters on a strap across his chest that contain various poisons and potions including seithr oil. On his belt hangs a device that has a bellows and a hose which can be attached to one of the canisters and used to spray the poisons at enemies.
After being reunited with Violeta:
6: Rider Sword called Eldrvarya Kveykva (Burning Lightning). This beautiful sword matches Violeta's markings. The sword is mostly violet in color with a white stripe running down the center of the blade. When Natagath is is fighting alongside his dragon, he can infuse the blaze with electricity and shock opponents.
7: A silver throwing dagger. He bought this knife upon arrival in Danthuania. He also kept his old crossbow.
Likes: Violeta, being far away from Galbatorix, fighting against the Empire whenever possible.
Dislikes: The Empire, the suffering he has caused innocent people, being trapped inside his armor, injustice, the fact that everyone hates his guts.
Weakness / Fear: The one thing he fears more than anything else is that Violeta will be captured by the Empire, in which case Galbatorix will force him to personally kill her and take her eldunari. Aside from that he fears little. As for weaknesses, Natagath is vulnerable to magic attacks, fire, being submerged in water (he can't swim in his armor), or basically running out of magic. Magic keeps him alive and he will eventually die if he runs completely out. He uses a lot of magic keeping himself alive so he tends to have less magic to use for combat.
Animal Companions: None
Character's Physical Description: (prior to being freed) Natagath is completely covered in his highly modified Rider armor. The armor is dark grey except for the gloves and boots, which are black, and his belt and shoulder strap, which are brown leather. Natagath helmet has been highly modified so that the visor cannot be lifted. The helmet has the emblem of the Empire engraved in the forehead, marking Natagath as a servant of the Empire. The emblem is also engraved on his arms. Also engraved on Natagath's helmet is the number "7", signifying that he was the seventh of the ten supersoldiers. His crossbow is bolted to his armor on his right arm and Natagath's melee blades are bolted to the underside of both his arms. None of his skin is visible and most people see him as only a faceless monster. He is unusually large for an elf and appears even larger in his armor, now standing six feet tall with broad shoulders. A shoulder strap is attached to his belt and runs diagonally up from his right side to his left shoulder. It has his canisters of poison attached to it. His six silver orbs are attached to the torso of his armor and give off a light glow. Natagath walks with heavy footsteps due to the weight of his armor. The armor can get very hot so Natagath can’t venture into areas such as deserts lest he be baked alive.
(after being freed) Natagath is now free from his armor. He is the height and weight of an average elf, but his skin is pale and pasty due to lack of exposure to the sun. That will change in time though. Natagath's blue eyes have become sunken in but he still has his golden blond hair. He wears an old tunic for the moment.
Dreams for the Future: To make Galbatorix pay for everything he has done, to somehow get out of his armor, and to be reunited with Violeta, in that order. The second goal has now been accomplished and goal three has become his priority now that he is finally free.
Reason for Dreams: Galbatorix forced him to endure unspeakable tortures and to commit terrible atrocities. He hates being imprisoned in his armor. He wants to see his dragon again, but not while he is trapped inside his armor. She probably wouldn't recognize him.
Alignment/side: While many see him as a servant of the Empire, Galbatorix has granted him his "freedom", returning his free will and allowing him to wander the land. While he really wants to fight Galbatorix, his deeds have turned the vast majority of the population against him and the Varden have put a bounty on his head so joining them is out of the question.
UPDATE: With the help of another Rider, Natagath has finally broken the magic that bound him to the suit. Now that he is out of the suit, finding his dragon has become his top priority.
UPDATE 2: After being reunited with Violeta, Natagath and his dragon decided that it would be best for them to flee Alagaesia together. And so they set out for Danthuania to start a new life.
