Downer's Grove, IL Book Signing Event
Hi there to you all!
I just want to share the Christopher Paolini book signing event with you all. After a week or so the pictures will then be moved to the Saphira Forums Gallery. BTW, I do not know how many of you have noticed this. The Gallery has been made in order to share visuals of events related to Christopher Paolini and his series. So please take a few minutes to visit it and post your comments!
When I arrived there was already a long line of people waiting. The doors opened at 5PM on the dot and we entered the theater. I managed to sit at about the 5th row, corner seat towards the center aisle. There were many restrictions on the photo taking so I was not able to get closer for clearer pictures.
At 6PM sharp, out came Christoper, he talked about different things and the Q/A's started. Once he was done, Eragon the Movie was shown, (made me wanna puke) while he started to sign books. My ticket turn was 486 and when I left there were still a good 300 people left for signing.
Louis had some cards made with the Saphira Forums web address and I had almost 270 to 300 cards which I started giving out while we waited in line outside, then gave out the rest inside the theater. I ran out of them in less than 10 minutes. It was fun, even though the wait was long. But it was all worth it!
Here we have the marquee to the Theater where the signing was being held.
I arrived at about 4:45PM and the line was down to the corner of the street.
The theater was filled almost to capacity. There was a larger attendance that what had been expected.
The following are pictures of the Question/Answer session Christopher Paolini did. That took like an hour or so. It was frustrating that people kept asking the same questions he has answered in his many interviews. ~
After the Q/A session, he proceeded to read three different excerpts from Brisingr. One from Saphira's point of view; the second a dwarfish excerpt and last but not least, an exceprt in the Ancient Language. ~
Finally, at about 10PM it was my turn to get my books signed. The signing was restricted to two per person; one personalized and the second just his signature. I mentioned Saphira Forums, Louis and Pete's names, he was sweet enough to ask me what was my tie with the site, and I said, "Well, I'm kind of the cyber Mom of the site. I interact with them all, but try to watch for their safety too!" So he personalized both books for me! That was really sweet! AND I slipped a couple of the Saphira Forums cards to him. He smiled and said; "Sweet."
Here he is signing a copy for my daughter, Ann-Marie! He had already signed mine. So all in all, it was a great experience!

Wow...what an experience.
I really don't see why Paolini would want to show Eragon the movie...what a disgrace to his good work.
Thanks for sharing Annie, and thanks for mentioning saphiraforums to him, i'm sure he won't join, but it's definite that he knows we are out there.

Re: Downer's Grove, IL Book Signing Event
The showing of the movie was not his idea. That was determined by the bookshop people, just to kill time while he was signing books. The question came up (AGAIN ) And he gave the same diplomatic answer: "the movie was the interpretation of the people from FOX, which was not necessarily the same interpretation as other people.

dang i wish i could have been there it only took me three days to read brisinger and ive read the others numerous times then i could have asked him why they gave saphira fur and feathers in the movie and why eragon looked like and idiot with tight leather pants for armor in a major battle.

Re: Downer's Grove, IL Book Signing Event
LOL! And he would have put on this forced smiled and thought; "Here we go again!"
Paolini has been very diplomatic every one of the hundred of times he's been asked any "movie-related" question.
Paraphrasing his words, he has said 1. That not all books go into being made a film. The fact his very FIRST book was made into one, was just amazing. 2. When an author sells a book rights for a movie, it is the interpretation of the screenwriter what goes up to the big screen. 4. Books can not be made word for word as the books and the book will always be better than movie because of the detailed descriptions; he also said the book will always be there for those who wish to read the original story 3. He is grateful the movie made his book known to many people who had not heard of it.
I believe his answer were very graceful and well attended to. So there it is, Superninja. I know the same will not quell your indignation or dissatisfaction, but it is what it is.

Where is Downer's Grove anyway? Does Paolini live there or something?

Re: Downer's Grove, IL Book Signing Event
Mr. Paolini, the god of the Alagaesian universe and the only true master to the queen of the dragons Saphira , lives in the Paradise Valley, Montana. He took much of his inspiration for Alagaesia's landscape from the nearby Beartooth Mountains. I went out there during my trip to Yellowstone, and it is amazing country. I feel jealous of CP for living in such gorgeous territory.
