Post The Exile's Road
soo far i've writen five small chapters, maybe two to three pages long each, this one is kinda longer so i hope it's not too long.

Chapter 1:

The boy of 11 years, ran as fast as his young legs could carry him. All his possessions that he could carry were strapped to his back, he was exiled from his clan. Accused of murdering his family, his mother, father, baby sister, when they found him with a bloody knife next to him. And now he ran from the wolves that pursued him, in hope of a good meal. The boy tripped over a rock on the stony path which he now ran, he got up and looked down the trail, the wolves were gaining, he turned and started to run, he went a mile before tripping again, but this time he would have no chance of the running again, for the wolves were only a few feet off and were slowly walking towards him, the boy whimpered, closed his eyes, waiting for the pain, but then he heard a yelp and when he looked he saw a middle aged man standing over him with a large staff, the man swung the staff and shouted, “Back! Back you worthless dogs! Back”.

The man’s yellow and blue robes flowed in the wind and formed to his every move, the man was strong the boy could tell that just by looking at the muscles that bulged from his arms. Slowly one by one the wolves turned and ran off into the trees, the man turned and looked into the boys eyes, there was nothing assuring in them as the man asked,“Were’s your family boy”. Slowly the boy replied, “they...their, dead”. The boy started to sob lightly and then the man smiled a little and said, “Do not cry young one...come, you will live with me”. Slowly the boy arose and followed after the man.

This is my story. My name is Zan Miata, I live in the mountains with 3 others, Master Ditamus the man who saved me from the wolves 8 years ago on my 11th birth day. Maylus a slender, but strong, young girl who is only but a year younger than I, and finally Govolita Nervana or Gova as we call him, he is a tall strong emotionless man of 23 who cares nothing for myself or Maylus, but still he is older than us so we can say nothing about it to Master Ditamus. Maylus arrived here at the training school, as Master Ditamus refers to it as, a year after I did and she has stuck close to me, until a year ago when her real training started, Gova is the eldest by 4 years and has been here sense he was 3, Master Ditamus says that he has a thirst for blood, and an anger that will never subside.

The days work started out as normal, I worked hard to build a dam in the river while Gova meditated and while Master Ditamus trains Maylus. As I worked, several times I saw with disgust Gova yawn then smiled when he sees me staring at him. Gova may have been the eldest but he was nothing but a lazy person, as for me I work with out tiring and only quite when I have to or am told to by Gova or Master Ditamus. A ways off into the trees I could hear Maylus and Master Ditamus training. Master Ditamus is an old man now, but old as he is he is stronger than any of use would be in years, he had been training ever sense the age of 3, and had inherited the training school from his father and plans on passing the school over to Gova when he dies. But still I work just the same, even though Maylu thinks I work more than Gova, the school will still be handed over to Gova who by my own personal thoughts will probably hand it over to me and then leave for ever.

By high noon the dam was finished and I waited by a large rock near the waterfall for Master Ditamus and Maylus to come back. After the sounds of fighting and of wood breaking Maylu came walking over to the waterfall, she dunked her head under the rushing water and then lifted her head out, brushed back her long black hair and looked at me with smile. As I stood there watching the dam I had built she walked over and sat next to me and commented, “You did a good job on that dam Miata”. Miata. She always called me that while Master Ditamus and Gova call me Zan, my first name. I looked at her and made no comment. After a few minutes Maylus looked at me and said,

“Master Ditamus, says that when he dies and the school is passed over to Gova, that I am to marry Gova”. I stayed silent and watched Gova, who pretended to meditate, but after a moment Maylus asks, “Well! Don’t you even care that I marry Gova?!”. I looked at her and said, “Its up to you and Master Ditamus to decide”. Tears swelled up in Maylus eyes as she turned and ran away, just then Gova burst out into hysterical laughter, I looked after Maylus, and then Master Ditamus called out, “Gova! Zan! Come to the hall!”. Gova stood up and I started towards the hall. After Gova and I were seated Master Ditamus said,

“Let me tell you both a story, a long time ago there was a young man who lived in a clan which worked slaves to near death, the young man after seeing what really seeing happened to the youngest and most defenseless slaves, the torture, the beatings, the young man tried to stop the beatings and torture, but they bound him and his family was killed before his eyes and then he was brutally beaten, after he was set out into the forest he built a home, then he built a wall around it and called it a school. During the rest of his life he freed and trained young slaves so that they no longer were defenseless and he passed on his right as master of the school to his strongest student, and that student passed it on to his eldest son and so on. As you know the school will be given to Gova, but once the new leader has been chosen a student is chosen to start a new school and train the young, homeless, and forgotten, so that they can have a life with out being pushed around by the ones who were once the stronger, and Zan you are the one to start a new school, will you be able to do this duty?”. I thought for a moment then I replied, “Yes, master I can and shall do this duty.”

The session ended there and we departed from each other’s sight, me and Gova. In the following days I trained and pushed harder than I ever have. Constantly pushing myself to the near limits and beyond. I lost a few pounds and then gained them back with muscle. Gova watched me intently even on the fourth day after the session, but I saw nothing of Maylus. On the sixth day Gova approached me during training and asked a simple question, “So, Zan... do you like Maylus?” I just looked at him and said, “My feelings are my own, not yours.”

He flustered a little, meaning to know straight out and clear. But then he smiled suddenly as if he had seen his answer in the air. He sat down near me as I trained and silently thought. Soon I stopped and asked, “What about you? Do you like her?” Gova just laughed, threw a stone at me and replied, “I don’t have to! We’ll be married she’ll bare me my sons, and if she won’t.”

He paused and smiled, then turned and walked away smiling. For then next two days I saw neither Gova nor Maylus, but Master Ditamus watched me during practice. Then on the tenth day Maylus walked up to me during training and said, “Here I brought you lunch.” She sat down and laid out rice, meat, vegetables and some fruit. I stopped training and sat across from her. As I ate she sat and watched me and silently thought of things I knew not. Suddenly she started to tell me of how Gova and Master Ditamus had argued the day before. Then of how she had argued with Gova about their marriage. When she has said her piece she asked a single, somber, question, “Zan, do you want me to marry Gova? Don’t you like me?”

I right quick stopped in mid bite and looked up at her. As I looked there was stern longing in her eyes, and fear in my heart. I chewed, swallowed and slowly said, “No, for the first question. Yes to the second.”An expression of relief and joy swept across her face and I was surprised to hear myself say, “I will not allow Gova to marry you. He dose not deserve you.” And right then I meant it, did I ever mean it! Not in this life time would I ever let a man like Gova have her. Maylus was also surprised and in a stunned tone she asked, “You’d face up to Gova? Do you think you’d win?”

I looked at her and smiled, and then started eating again without comment. Maylus looked behind her and saw Master Ditamus watching us smiling. She then stood and ran ver to talk with him. They then walked off together and when I looked up a few minutes later Gova was standing there, not but a few yards off. I stood, fully expecting a fight and asked, “Gova?” He stood there, his visage a thing of disgust, anger, and hate. He started towards me as he answered, “Zan.” I took a ready stance and asked , “You got something on your mind, Gova?”

Every inch of me was wanting this fight and it got it. He came in fast, threw a quick hook form the left nearly rattled my brains around. I countered by slapping his hand to my right, and out of line of my body, with my left. I then brought my right up and caught him on the chin with a brutal smashing hit that sent him to his bare heels. He recovered quickly and landed two hard punches to my wind. He tried for a third but I brushed it off and sent him back with a short, quick, and hard jab to the gut and then two firm punches to the face. He charged and kicked upwards and caught me on the chin. Then stepped in as I recovered and smashed me on the kisser. I stumbled away for a quick respite from the fight, then pitched myself in again. Ducking to the left I landed a hard right to the cheek and we stepped away, but as he stepped away he fell to one knee. He was bleeding and by the way I felt, and how my head throbbed, I probably was too. He suddenly lunged up and threw a hand full of sand in my face, and just before the sand hit I saw his left hand drop to a bamboo rod nearby. My eyes closed and I felt the slam of the rod on my head above the temple, and I was out cold. Hours later I heard a fire pop and crackle and then the slow grinding of steel and rock. And then I felt a sudden sharp burning pain on my forehead. I passed out again and when I awoke, I heard shouts as Gova and Master Ditamus arguing, “Fool! What madness has brought you to do this?” then Gova’s response, “He deserved it!”

Master Ditamus’s stern old voice didn’t crack or falter as he stood against Gova. Both knew Master Ditamus would never back down, but neither would Gova. The voices faded for a moment, but then Master Ditamus slammed a hard fist into the cave wall, jerking me to clarity, and cried “Fool! You will never gain this school when I die, for this act is unforgivable!” Gova growled a feral rumble and responded, “Fine! Then I’ll leave! But you’ll regret kicking me out!” a tired and disgusted shudder and sigh came from Master’s lips as he drawled, “Begone...”

I heard foot steps receding and the crash of bamboo trees being knocked aside, it was then that I noticed that some one was beside me, a lithe small figure but the feel of the presence. Master Ditamus stepped over and said, “Maylus, take good care of him, he now has a great burden to bear. Two marks of exile in one lifetime! By the gods, he is either cursed or the gods have something extraordinary in store for him.” Maylus started to reply but Master continued, “I feel as though I have lost ten years this day, and it is not even half through. Return him to the school, when he awakes I shall speak with him. It was then that I passed out again and slept.
