The Path to a Greater Future
Anyone can join.
Zantos looked around at the fallen city of Vroengard. A certain sense of grandeur still hung around the place, despite its state of ruin. It was a cloudy day, and he knew it would probably start to rain soon. Unbidden, a small feeling of loneliness started to creep up within him, but he shook it away with a small smile at the horizon and a tiny shake of the head. His attention was drawn to a distant chandelier inside a large building that could have been an ancient library. He closed his eyes and smiled softly, then unslung his bow from his shoulder and strung an arrow on it. Eyes still closed, he pointed it in the direction he knew the chandelier would be, then, in the split second when he opened his eyes again he quickly relocated his target and let the arrow fly loose. The chandelier that could be seen through the window seemed far too distant for any arrow to reach it, but the arrow flew straight towards its target, golden flames trailing behind it. It shattered the window and struck the topmost bulb on the chandelier. Flaming pieces of glass shards rained upon the ground as he smiled yet again. There was nothing more satisfying than hitting a target. As he looked at the chandelier more closely, he could not help but feel that something seemed strange about it, but he could not quite figure out what it was.
Looking around at the ruins once more, he thought that it seemed there had been recent activity here, which struck him as strange. The rubble seemed overturn, for the pieces of stone that were laying on the ground had dirt on top of them, as if they had been overturned from their resting positions of a long time. It seemed rather like someone was searching for something. Suddenly, a noise behind him made him start and he turned around. The strangest of creatures faced him. It was in the shape of a human, but its skin seemed to be made out of tar and its features were grotesquely hideous. It uttered a gurgling, disgusting laugh and suddenly its arm extended and shot out towards him, with deadly looking claws on its tip. He quickly rolled to the side, drew his blades, and chopped off the extended arm. Purple blood gushed out as it gave another gurgling scream, but before it could do anything else Zantos dashed towards it and cleanly cut its head off. Warily, he looked around to see if more would appear.

Re: The Path to a Greater Future
OOC: Do you mind if I joined?
Brilyn stretched as she reached the island and looked around her. She had read about the island of Vroengard and all the different things that had happened here but nothing was like seeing it firsthand. She had also heard stories of the abominations that now inhabited the island and kept her hands clenched as she began to walk inland. The shrubbery was untamed and wild and the grass consisted mostly of weeds and and small patches of green grass. there were few short bushes but it seemed that the island had barely begun to recover from the terrible events that plague its history. She enjoyed the quiet and natural feel of the island and soon her mind and body were at ease. In the distance she saw a large building that she instantly recognized as a library and quickened her pace.
She cautiously went inside, making sure that she was alone and moved to the center of the room. She picked up a dusty book off the floor only to discover the few remaining pages were charred and unreadable. A chilly breeze blew through the building and she looked up as she heard the sound of glass clinking. Above her was a large chandelier coated in dust from being in an abandoned building for years. She marveled at its beauty and stared on for minutes longer before turning her attention to the rest around her. She could now see that she was in a library of a decent size but fallen bookcases and overturned furniture surrounded her and she was tormented at the monster that could have done this. Walking though parts of the library she found how very big the inside was and she wanted to search through it more to find whatever she could but she sighed, suddenly feeling tired after being in the sun for so long. She set her pack down and made herself comfortable, closing her eyes to wait until night came. Upon hearing a large crash as if something breaking, her eyes jolted open and let out a cry as she quickly stood up. Covering her mouth, she stayed in her dark corner until she heard no more noises and slowly moved out. She saw shattered glass all over the floor and looked up to see remnants of the chandelier hanging. Upon further investigation, she found an arrow among the debris that had made the messed. She eased herself to the door and looked out keeping as out of sight as she could. A man was in the distance fighting a creature she had never seen before and almost instantly could smell the human scent. She quickly moved back in shaking her head, trying to clear the scent away. Her eyes closed she stumbled over her feet and fell onto the glass, hearing it crack under her weight.

Re: The Path to a Greater Future
The fallen city reminded Myn of home.
An encompassing silence hung over the decaying ruins like a tattered old blanket, shifting only with the sea breeze whispering through the shattered pillars. Gravel and loose masonry crunched under Myn's feet as she trudged up the winding path to the gates of Vroengard, the devastation increasing the closer she got to the city. stories didn't do it justice... she thought, stepping over the former gate's threshold, now scattered and twisted remains of charred and weathered wood.
She stopped shortly inside the gates, and looked closer at the ruins of the houses and the barracks nearby. Something was out of order here... the barracks showed sign of recent activity, as if someone had been digging through the stones and tossing them aside haphazardly. Almost frantically.. she mused, considering there was little attempt at concealment of the searching.
That was before she saw the several sets of fresh tracks marking the dirt path ahead.
She took a few steps forward and crouched down to inspect the disturbed soil.
Hmm... these look like an animal track...and large.... odd... Thorvald always said, the island was burned to a crisp. Dead.
She shifted on the balls of her feet towards the other, less numerous set of tracks and instantly recognised them. That's a human boot if I've ever saw one...two sets, male and female.
Rising from the ground, she stroked her scarred cheek and gazed unfocused out over the city, trying to make sense of what she had discovered.
It just doesn't Instantly her attention was drawn by a flaming arrow slicing through the sky towards the large building directly ahead of her, at the end of the street. It impacted on an object inside, and her hears picked up a faint tinkiling crash from underneath the omnipresent hood.
Myn drew her sword and knife, adjusted her threadbare robe to better conceal herself, and started picking her way around the destroyed barracks towards the origin of the arrow.
She increased her pace when the sounds of battle and the wet cutting sound of a sword through flesh met her ears. As she stepped through the precariously perched outer wall of the barracks, she saw a human standing several meters ahead among the ruins of an unidentifiable building, his back turned to her. At his feet was a bleeding, headless corpse of a creature Myn had never seen before.
What kind of creature bleeds purple...? Wait, movement ahead
Myn heard faint scratching sounds in the formerly ornate building ahead of her, past the human. She ceased moving forward, and strained her ears for any continuing sounds of activity.

Re: The Path to a Greater Future
OOC .::. Yeah, that's fine =).
Zantos relaxed a bit as everything seemed calm once more after dispatching the strange creature, but it was short-lived, for almost right away he heard the sound of crunching glass. He sheathed one sword but kept the other one in hand as he approached the place where he had heard the sound. He approached it quickly, curious to know what could be going on on such a deserted island.
As he finally reached the entrance to the library, he saw a femenine figure laying on the broken glass, in a position as if she had just fell. Curious, he approached her slowly and asked, "Are you okay?"
His scalp was prickling. He thought he could also sense somebody else nearby.

Re: The Path to a Greater Future
Brilyn looked up and gasped as she saw a human standing before her. Quickly standing up, she instinctively put a hand over her nose and mouth to try and muffle his scent. Taking a step back and preparing to run, she couldn't help but notice how peculiar he was. He had the most shocking yellow eyes and very interesting hair. Her hand dropped at once and she noticed that although his scent was strong and unique, she didn't have any urge to bite him at all. Anticipating her long stay here, she had gotten filled up on blood so it would last her a week but probably more around five days. After a short silence she turned her head, feeling awkward before remembering she had yet to answer his question.
"I'm fine. Sorry for my reaction, I got a little startled."
She talked fast and moved her lips as little as possible so the human wouldn't see her teeth and glancing at him out of the corner of her eye. Feeling the tension build up inside her again, she broke the silence by brushing the dust and glass she had left forgotten on her bottom.

Re: The Path to a Greater Future
Myn silently watched the human as he approached the girl rising from the dust. The human was nondescript enough in appearance, but there was something unusual about the girl. Something in the way she was holding herself.....
The air had gone silent, the only sound that reached her ears were whispers of the two humanoid's conversation.
So the pulsating monster that grabbed her from behind and hurled her flying sideways into the wall caught her completely by surprise.
She hit with enough force to crack a couple of the worn stone blocks.
Her vision swam as she crumpled to the ground. The creature advanced towards her through the shifting colors and lights pervading her rapidly dimming consciousness.
what a stupid mistake those are the ones that get you great it has friends
Silver flashed, and darkness fell.OOC: Down but not out

Re: The Path to a Greater Future
OOC: Mind if I pop in? IC: Vermona paused briefly, lifting her nose to the air to sniff. Her pitch black eyes searched the surrounding area in vain for prey. She'd settle for a squirrel she was so thirsty. She hissed in frustration, then turned and blurred away as she ran. Her ears pricked as she abruptly caught the subtle sound of flesh meeting stone in a hard impact. She'd thought this island was deserted. She shrugged and went toward the sound, though stuttered to a halt as she broke the tree cover, her waist length mahogany hair swirling around her face at her abrupt stop. A mortal had been thrown into a stone wall by some sort of beast, which was now stalking forward. Her eyes flicked briefly to the other two she smelled, then she flashed forward until she stood in front of the fallen woman. She growled in her throat, a deep buzzing sound that resembled a hive of angry bees,"Leave her, monster." she hissed, her tone low and very threatening, though a bit distorted due to the fact that her fangs were elongating. Her eyes flashed again to the other two, her quick mind processing that one was a female and the other a male. Something about the females scent seemed familiar, but she wrote that off to think about later, turning her attention back to the creature. It had been perhaps ten seconds since she had first appeared at the edge of the treeline. Her thirst was slowing her down a bit. Her pupils contracted as she smelt the blood within the beast, and wondered if it was any good. Her vision darkened into a red haze, predatory instinct taking over, as she drew her lips back to reveal her teeth, especially the pair of two inch long fangs, and released a challenging guttural snarl that would raise the hairs on the most disciplined dwarf.

Re: The Path to a Greater Future
OOC .::. Nope go ahead.
Zantos looked at the girl curiously. "Are you sure? You seem a little nervous about something," he said to her. He gave her a soft smile and said, "You shouldn't be alone here either. I don't know why, but there's strange monsters lurking around the area. You wouldn't mind mind my company, would you?" He was still smiling slightly.
Suddenly, however, he heard a crash on the other side of the wall, as well as a very frightening snarl. He looked back at the girl and said, "Do you want to stay here, or come with me to go see what that was?"

Re: The Path to a Greater Future
Brilyn looked up at the human with shock as he asked to stay in her company but before she was able to respond, there came a crash from outside and she knew that there would be trouble. She set a stern look on her face and nodded to the human and they both ran outside. As she went she smelled the air around them to make out what would await them. There was some sort of foul odor that masked up almost everything but underneath were two faint scents. One scent was strange but didn't seem harmful and the other one seemed similar somehow. But similar to what? She had no time to think upon it. One of the strange beasts that she had heard about was moving towards his prey as we ran out of the building. The monster obstructed her view and she couldn't see who or what exactly the beast was moving to.

Pass, I think I'm going to have her unconcious for a turn. Seems rather dull to me to have her wake up and deal with the thing(s) while all your characters are closing swiftly anyway.

Re: The Path to a Greater Future
Vermona crouched in front of the mortal, her black gaze drilling into the creature. It was a stare down for a few moments, then the beast took a blinding step forward, launching its arm out toward. She roared and ducked, springing forward underneath its attack to clash into its chest. She forced it back, driving it into the ground with her savage attack. It attempted to wrap its arms around her, but she ripped them apart. Her black eyes brightened with excitement as the scent of blood touched her nose. Her nostrils flared and venom swam in her mouth...But she couldn't feed with the other two watching. So with roar of rage, she jumped back and crouched over the fallen mortal, her arms extended in a loose circle of defensiveness. The beast snarled, but with no arms it couldn't attack again. It turned and fled, still hissing and growling under its breath. She took a few deep breaths to clear her nose of the blood, then held her breath as she turned to the other two mortals. Her eyes zeroed in on the female instantly, the pupils narrowing,"I apologize. I heard the scuffle and saw the beast grab her. I couldn't stand by and watch." she mumbled, keeping her voice low, clipped, so they couldn't hear the distortion in her voice from her fangs. She turned away from them and approached the fallen female, opening her mouth to pant silently until her canines retracted to normal length. By now she was crouched beside the unconscious mortal and looking her over for injury.

Re: The Path to a Greater Future
Zantos turned the corner of the building to witness another two female figures, one down unconscious and the other fighting another one of the strange beasts. Something seemed a little strange about her, and her rather savage fighting style confused him slightly. He thought he made a connection in the way she talked to the way the other girl that was accompanying him had talked to him first, but he still didn't quite know what it was.
"What's going on here?" he asked. "Are you two okay?"
He wasn't sure what was going on. He had expected even more solitude, but he had found something completely different, and in the most unlikely of places. This doesn't seem strange to you too? he asked the girl that came along with him.

Re: The Path to a Greater Future
Brilyn took a second to glance at the man standing next to her before turning her attention back to the two women.
"Yes it is a little strange but I suspected something like that would be on this island."
She said while turning her direction to where the monster had fled. The smell of its blood filled her nostrils and let out a sigh. It had been some time since she was around others and she wondered if her thirst would get the best of her. The new scent made her mouth water but it wasn't overwhelming in the slightest. She looked back to the two women and took a step forward when she saw one of them was unconscious. She smelled the air and made sure there was no serious bloodshed before turning to the other girl and asking,
"Is she okay?"

Re: The Path to a Greater Future
Voices spoke softly, murmuring in the distance. The flames traversed her skull as she sat up, her old injuries twitching with half remembered pain.
Then she looked up and saw three pairs of feet.
"Great, a party." she mumbled, while slowly rising to her feet, still unsure of her footing.
She squinted at each of them while swaying back and forth, all she was able to determine that each of them were rather colorful in appearance.
Grimacing, Myn groaned and closed her eyes, massaging her forehead. one of the most foresaken places anywhere, and within hours there's monsters and humans.
Well, not going anywhere fast.
"What are you all doing here?" she said, from behind her hands.

Re: The Path to a Greater Future
Vermona looked back at the female, her eyes abruptly narrowing sharply. Now that she was thinking straight again, she did recognize her scent,"Fine, I think. Nothing fatal at least." she said. As she spoke, the woman at her feet moved and sat up, quickly standing. The female vampire scowled lightly, listening to the woman's heartbeat to make sure she truly was okay. Then she answered her question,"I'm here for some.." she hesitated,"solitude, I suppose. My name is Vermona, but my friends just call me Mona." she said calmly, but flicked her gaze to the other woman, watching her reaction carefully. Her name was Vampiric, meaning something close to "she-devil". Her nostrils abruptly flared, catching the scent of blood. Fresh, and from a mortal. Her black, suddenly gleaming eyes glittered with savage thirst. She backed away from the woman, holding her palms out in front of her and visibly holding her breath. Her canines sharpened,"Your hurt." she spit through her teeth,"Did you hit your head when that beast threw you into the wall?"

Re: The Path to a Greater Future
Zantos looked around at everyone. A chill ran down his spine. Through unspoken terms everyone around him seemed to be suddenly very tense, as if waiting for one to burst out and attack everyone. Against his will, he almost started to reach for his sword, but he stopped himself just in time.
The woman on the ground seemed to have a sour attitude about something, and the other two were looking at each other with the unmistakable look of two that had just discovered something very interesting about each other. "Is something wrong with you two?" he asked them cautiously. "Oh, and by the way, my name is Zantos," he said to everyone around.

Re: The Path to a Greater Future
As Brylin looked at the female standing up, she finally realized what was so familiar about her. She had the same kind of essence as herself which could only mean one thing. Looking at her with wide eyes. she know that whoever this strange woman was, she was a a vampire like herself. She watched as she covered her mouth and slowly looked at the other female that was on the ground. Her nose instantly filled with the scent of her blood and she slowly started to back away. Her mouth started to water and she could feel her body tense up. Her urge to drink was strong but she turned all her concentration to keeping her strength and resisting and as long as she could maintain her concentration until the female's wound was patched she would be fine.

Re: The Path to a Greater Future
Vermona's black eyes flicked to the other woman, and she knew. That woman - though she looked more like a girl, actually - was a vampire. It had been so long. The only other vampire that she'd ever seen had been her mate, Allen. The blood-scent drove into her nostrils, whipping through her throat like someone had just flipped the switch on a dragon breathing fire. A shudder went through her body while she tried to stay put. For her, it was harder to control if she moved. She glanced to the human male as he asked if something was wrong with her or the other vampire. She shook her head minutely, struggling with her fangs. By the time she smiled at Zantos, her teeth were perfectly even and straight,"If only you knew, young one." she murmured to him, her black eyes savage with the blood-scent,"But other than that minor detail, yes, we are fine." she assured him, then turned back to the other vampire. She walked over to the other female vampire and lightly placed a hand on her shoulder, then set about calming her down. Mona's ability to calm others (control their emotions and make them feel calm) at her touch came in handy sometimes. She smiled slightly at the female,"My name is Vermona, but you can call me Mona. It gets easier with age until you barely have to think about it, even when your hungry like I am now." she said quietly so unless Zantos actually stepped closer while she'd been speaking, he wouldn't have been able to hear her exact words.

Re: The Path to a Greater Future
OOC .::. Should have just made another post haha, would have made it easier on me. But okay.
Zantos continued to look at the two women a bit curiously. He listened as the woman told him "If only you knew" carefully. If only he knew what? Straining his ears and taking a few steps closer to the two, he heard Vermona speaking from "even where you're hungry like me." Something about her speech made him slightly uneasy. "I think it would probably just be best if you tell me what I don't know," he said to both of them, starting to get the uneasy sensation that they might be dangerous.

Re: The Path to a Greater Future
Brilyn began to feel uneasy as the woman moved close to her. the scent of blood burned inside her nostrils and her throat as she tried to focus on absolutely anything else. When Mona stood in front of her, her concentration wavered and she closed her eyes as the smell began to overwhelm her. Mona placed a hand on her shoulder and was instantly calm. She found it strange but she couldn't wonder about it. She opened her eyes as Mona began to speak and looked at the human behind her as he stepped closer. She let out a half smile and let out a sigh at what Mona said.
"My name is Brilyn. It's nice to meet you, she said and lowered her voice until only she could hear, "And what you said is a relief, it is not easy for me."
She wrapped her arms around herself and moved out of Mona's grasp as she faced the human. She felt a small amount of fear build inside her as the human asked the question and she looked off into the distance to avoid looking at him. This was the first time in a long time that she had such contact with any humans and she knew the truth would make him fear the both of them.

Re: The Path to a Greater Future
Vermona eyed the human male from the edge of her vision. Could they tell him? She supposed so. Would he freak out? Most likely. She sighed, smiling just a bit at Brilyn's reply, then turned around to face Zantos,"Alright." she glanced at the other female vampire,"But first...How much merit do you put into Mythical beings?" she asked, and grinned widely at him, making sure he could see all of her teeth.

Re: The Path to a Greater Future
Zantos looked at Vermona carefully, slightly tense despite himself. He heard her words and was slightly confused at first, and then when she smiled widely to reveal unnaturally long fangs he understood. He had heard of these creatures before. "I didn't think vampires really existed, at least not here," he said softly, closing his eyes for a moment. He gave a small sigh and drew his swords. "I don't know much about you... but I suppose you want something from me?" he asked, a strange feeling of disappointment at the idea that they were hostile overtaking him as he looked at the pair of them. He stared into each of their eyes in turn, with an impassive look on his face.

Re: The Path to a Greater Future
Brilyn frowned at the human as he drew his sword. She took a step forward with her arms still wrapped around her and drew in a long sigh. She had it already assumed in her mind that he would react somewhat like this but it still made her unhappy. She glanced at Mona out of the corner of her eye to see her smiling and showing her fangs.
"it is foolish of you to assume that we cause you harm." She said, looking down and suddenly lowering her voice, "If that is what we wanted, it would have happened long ago."

Re: The Path to a Greater Future
Vermona's eyebrow rose, and she closed her mouth to cover her teeth. Her fangs shortened automatically with the closing of her mouth. Her expression was horrified at first, then it dissolved into incredulity. She almost looked offended. Her dark black eyes rolled in exasperation,"Why do you mortals all respond that way? If we had wanted to kill you we would have done so by now, as Brilyn has said." she made a disgusted face then,"And anyway, I don't feed from humans. Never have. No, that's a lie. I've never killed a human. That's the truth." she said firmly, then her gaze turned wary, and she visibly held her breath,"Just make sure you don't make yourself bleed and you'll be safe." she growled halfheartedly. She needed to hunt, soon, but she had been unable to find any prey on the island she was currently inhabiting.

Re: The Path to a Greater Future
Zantos looked at them both, feeling slightly guilty, for they both looked rather offended by what he said. "Well it's not exactly like I know anything about vampires. Don't you think it would have been foolish to trust something that you don't know about just like that? I'm sorry if I hurt your feelings or anything like that," he said sincerely to the both of them. They could be lying, but something told him they were not. He looked at both of them in turn once more, hoping that they could see his apology was sincere.

Re: The Path to a Greater Future
Brilyn sighed and let out a small laugh. She still avoided looking at the human for what she would find in his eyes. He sounded like he meant what he said but he most likely still feared them but she gave a small nod in response to what he said. As she stood there in silence, the man's scent began to swirl around her and she could feel her throat start to burn. She didn't think she would have to feed so soon because she had had fer fill a couple of days ago but the more of him she breathed in, the more enticing he became. She looked around to find something to distract her and found a small flower in a patch of weeds just starting to bloom. The petals were still hidden but you could see the edges of them radiate a beautiful bright purple. The leaves were short and starting to wither and the stem was green and disappearing into the dry dirt below. The distraction proved to be enough to clear her mind and focus on the two others but she kept her sight on the budding flower.

Re: The Path to a Greater Future
Vermona smiled less widely than last time,"It's alright, honestly. Most sensible mortals would think the same as you do." she said, and chuckled. Her black eyes flitted to Brilyn for a moment then back to Zantos,"Have you seen any game nearby? I'd go for even a squirrel right now." she added warily. She didn't want to come right out and say it in front of the human, but she was desperately in need of blood. She didn't honestly care where it came from right now at the moment, but she needed it soon. Her predatory instincts were taking over, her muscles bunching, venom swimming in her mouth. If one hadn't of known she was a real creature, despite her silent heart, she might have been mistaken for a very life-like statue.

Re: The Path to a Greater Future
Zantos looked around. "There's bound to be something nearby," he said, looking at Brilyin a bit curiously. She seemed determined to concentrate on a blooming flower on the ground and her breathing had seemed a bit strange for a while. "Are you okay?" he asked her.
"But anyways, it looks like there's a bit of a forested area behind this library, we can go look for something there. I'm a bit hungry myself," he said. "We should just be careful. There may be more of those monsters lurking around."

Re: The Path to a Greater Future
Brilyn closed her eyes and took in a deep breath. His scent was still in the air but the flower had a unique sweet smell that it held her attention. At hearing the human's words she was able to glance at him and say,
"Yes, I am fine." She looked into the distance to the library and trees beyond. She had yet to feast on any creature because she tended to bond with them and their blood never seemed like it would quench her thirst but she had to do what was necessary.

Re: The Path to a Greater Future
Vermona nodded, glancing eagerly at the trees. She vaguely heard Zantos ask Brilyn if she was alright, and the female vampire's response to it, but her thirst was slowly taking over her senses. Her nose, ears, and eyes were so concentrated on the forest that she hardly even noticed the warm pumping up the human's heart, wet and almost seductive in a way that made her mouth water and swim with venom. To the mortal (Zantos), it would appear as if at one moment she was standing there, and then the next she was simply gone. In reality she'd broken into a clipped sprint toward the trees, desperation in her black, savagely thirsty eyes. Predator instincts ruled over her now, kicking in to the forefront of her mind when she normally would have tried to be logical and sensible. Her nose and ears led her to a tree that a single deer was grazing under. How a deer got onto the island she didn't question; she was too thirsty to care. She attacked swiftly, barely giving the big buck time to even flinch before her fangs were elongated to an astonishing length and her jaws latched around the pulsing point in its throat. The blood was so deliciously sweet that she didn't care that it tasted so wrong, off from human blood. But it soothed the burning ache in her throat, forcing the blood haze to recede and let her see sense again. The buck was quickly dry. She was still licking her lips free of blood when she walked calmly out of the trees back toward Zantos and Brilyn. She smiled sheepishly at them, her now burnished gold-amber eyes gleaming,"Sorry, I had to hunt, or you might have unintentionally become my dinner." she said, glancing apologetically at the human. She truly did hate feeding from mortals; most of the time it ended up killing them or Transforming them, and she wasn't at all for Changing someone into a vampire without their consent.

Re: The Path to a Greater Future
Zantos watched as Vermona sped past them in a flash to lanch herself at the neck of a deer, sucking its blood dry. Strangely, the action did not really disgust him as he thought it might. More than anything, he felt a bit of pity for the both of them. To have to live life this way, when their hunger overcame all the instincts in their body, must be a difficult one to go through. "Don't worry, I'm glad you picked that deer and not me," he said with a small smile. Slowly, he strode into the forest, eyes scanning for any kind of food that could be around. He spotted two rabbits slowly hopping their way on the forest floor, slightly hidden beneath some bushes. He unslung his bow and strung an arrow, aiming at the rabbit and letting his finger go. the arrow hit his target with deadly accuracy. Before the other one had time to run away too far, it too had an arrow protruding from its chest. He quickly went to go pick them up by the ears and muttered a few spells that left the carcass clean and ready for eating, then put a fire on the ground that would only affect the rabbits and nothing else around it, feeling all of a sudden very hungry.

Re: The Path to a Greater Future
Brilyn started to walk towards the forest when Zantos moved before her. She dared not go to hunt while he was in there for fear of hurting him or even worse. She watched as he killed two rabbits and stayed in the forest to cook them. She bent down and hugged her knees to her and took a deep breath. His scent was faded but she could still pick it out from the others around her and the thirst was starting to be overwhelming.

Re: The Path to a Greater Future
Vermona gave a wary smile in return to Zantos. The only human that had ever had this kind of...acceptance, of her kind was her mate, Allen. He's reacted much the same when she'd told him and, unlike some of her kind, wasn't consumed with anguish when he found himself Turned. She sighed and shook her head, dispelling the past, and focused on reality. She tilted her head, watching Brilyn curiously. After a few moments she padded forward and kneeled down in front of the other female vampire. Her burnished gold eyes glittered now with warmth,"There are a few plump birds a little bit to the south, if you would like to hunt them." she offered, waving her hand on the opposite direction of Zantos. It was much easier to ignore his scent now, now that she was fed. Though she could go for another deer or two, she would have to wait until she was back on the mainland.

Re: The Path to a Greater Future
Zantos, himself not knowing how his scent could affect the two vampires, left the two rabbits cooking by the fire and strode back to where Vermona was talking to Brilyn, slightly confused at what was going on. As he came upon them, he asked, in an almost tender voice to Brilyn, "Are you okay? You really seem like something's bothering you."
Rezekiel decided it was time to finally rise from the underground caves. He could not destroy the island quite yet, so he hoped that there was no one on it that could attempt to find his hidden lair. He simply needed something large to transport everything he had been working on back to the mainland. The strange water creatures he had discovered below the island of Vroengard had proved most useful...

Re: The Path to a Greater Future
Brilyn looked up at Mona and gave a grateful smile before standing up to her full height. She saw Zantos come up and ask if she was alright. Her hands instantly flew to her face to try to block out his scent but despite her efforts, it still seeped through. the smell filled her lungs and sent shivers down her body as she was overcome with her thirst. Her muscles tensed and she looked at him with bloodthirsty eyes. Her hands dropped to her sides in a predatory stance as she started to take a few steps toward him. Her breathing became ragged and her sight blurred, leaving Zantos the only thing she could see. A sharp intake of breath tensed her body more as his scent surrounded her but there was an every soft presence of the flower that had helped her before. She lost her focus on Zantos and willed her body in the direction of the birds as fast as she could go.
She came to a clear grassy area of the island where there were indeed about five or six birds there for her to feast on. She moved with lightning speed to the closes bird and broke its neck. The other birds in the area immediately took off in fear and she set the dead bird down and jumped high in the air to catch another bird. As soon as she hit the ground the bird was dead ans she sank her teeth into it, letting the blood fill her mouth. Her mind instantly became more clear and she drank until the bird was dry. She tossed it aside and went to the other bird and drank her fill of that before sitting down and letting out a relieved sigh. She stayed sitting for several moments to let the blood course through her until she was sure she would not harm the human before returning to him and Mona.

Re: The Path to a Greater Future
Vermona stiffened, at once alert. And she saw it, the blood haze, or blood curse it was occasionally called, falling over Brilyn with savage vengeance. She flashed forward until she stood protectively in front of Zantos, her arms held in a loose circle in front of her chest. Her lips quivered slightly, on the verge of pulling back to snarl a rebuke, a warning for Brilyn to keep away. But she didn't get the chance to even bare her teeth before she saw reason return to the female vampires eyes, and then she was running away. She stayed perfectly still, closing her eyes to concentrate and track Brilyn with her ears. Mona listened carefully, hearing the slight, familiar sounds of a hunting vampire. It was silent for a few moments, then she heard the soft footfalls of a creature born with the gift of stealth, and knew that Brilyn was returning. She stood relaxed now in front of Zantos, arms at her sides with hands open. Her head tilted to the side a bit, and her burnished gold eyes reflected concern in them,"Your in control now?" she ventured worriedly, taking a step toward her new friend. With the burden they both carried, it would almost be appropriate to call them sisters. With a start, Mona realized this might actually be true. She had no memories of her life before the Transformation. She wondered to ask Brilyn about her family when things had settled down a little bit.

Re: The Path to a Greater Future
Zantos looked at Brilyn as she stepped towards him, a savage thirst gleaming from behind her eyes. For a moment he felt a small stab of fear, and his muscles tensed, ready, for whatever might come, but then, all of a sudden, Brilyn was gone and running the other way, off to do he knew not what. When she returned, she seemed more calm, and it slowly started to dawn on him what was going on. Addressing both of them, he said, "I won't leave you guys if you don't want me too... but if I'm too... tempting, or something, and you guys don't want me here, then I supposed I could just leave..." he said, trailing off and losing himself a bit in his thoughts.

Re: The Path to a Greater Future
Brilyn looked at Mona and gave a brief nod accompanied by a small toothless smile.
"Yes, I am more than fine now. I should not have let myself get so out of control," She said and turned her attention to Zantos. She could focus on him and take in his scent without feeling any serious urges. She would always feel something in the very core of her body, more of an irritating tickle but it was easily ignored.
"No, I don't think that will be necessary," She said in response to Zantos, "I for one am fine and it has been some time since I have had any sort of company. I would be honored if you would stay." She smiled at him, hoping he would stay because she truthfully had been very lonely as of late.

Re: The Path to a Greater Future
Vermona relaxed at Brilyn's nod, returning the smile with a warm twinkle in their burnished gold depths. She looked at Zantos, the expression on her face was...surprised? Maybe a tiny bit of hurt in the line of her jaw? She shook her head, agreeing with Brilyn,"Much the same for me. The older I get, the easier it is to control. I forgot how harsh the burn is, and I was foolish to not hunt for three weeks. Your fine, honestly, Zantos." she soothed. The faint smell of something charring abruptly touched the air, and she raised her nose to catch it better. Her head tilted in confusion,"Is something burning?" she asked, glancing at Zantos for confirmation.

Re: The Path to a Greater Future
Zantos looked back at the two rabbits he had left in the fire, letting out a loud curse. "Sorry," he said with a small laugh, "I got cuaght up in things and I guess I forgot about my food." He went to go pick up the two, rabbits, extinguished the fire, then came back to the two vampires and started eating. "By the way," he said, "I never really knew much about vampires, but I'm glad and appreciate you can resist your impulses to keep yourselves from harming people. I promise I'll do the same by preventing anything else from harming either of you, okay?" he told them with a small smile. Leading the lives they did, he hoped that this kind of comment helped them feel a bit better about themselves.

OOC: Oops, sorry guys I completely forgot about this story lol.
IC: Brilyn gave a small smile but she knew that if anyone would need protecting, it would be him. Any danger that would ever befall her would be too much for a human to handle, but she accepted it as a gesture and looked around them as Zantos ate.

Re: The Path to a Greater Future
Vermona merely nodded at his apology, smiling dryly. She appreciated his gesture, no doubt, though she had a feeling that his soft human body would be in more danger than her stone vampire one. Her smile wavered, and melancholy entered the depths of her burnished gold eyes,"We do not wish to harm others, even though we are the mythical 'killers of the night'." she shot a glance at Brilyn,"We just make do with what we are and try to make it better." she murmured quietly, then she grinned widely,"There are some bonuses. The sharp nose, keen hearing, speed..." she laughed softly.

Re: The Path to a Greater Future
Zantos laughed a little at Vermona's last comment. "Yes, I suppose there is a few advantages." Finally finishing up his food, he stood up and looked a bit around the island. "Is anyone else curious about what's going on here?" he asked. "I know I am. There's something strange going on. I think I'm going to stick around to investigate a bit."
Rezekiel finally reached the surface of the island from the underground tunnels in the large living quarters that were once the Riders'. He was in a large room below the mansion that served as both catacombs and prison. As he walked past the cells, he looked at one in particular that had the trace of feathers from wings in it before sweeping up the stairs that led into the main chamber of the mansion. He looked to his right at a destroyed door that led into a small room which was no longer recognizable. It had scorch marks and blood splattered on it, and all the furniture was broken. He remembered his fight with the man named Mesaraih here very clearly. He didn't know what he could be doing now, but he knew that they were not around the area to try and stop his plans anymore.

Re: The Path to a Greater Future
Brilyn opened up her senses and closed her eyes. The air around was filled with the charred scent of Zantos's food but the wind brought the feint scent of something new but it was too far away for her to tell what it was. There was also the faintest of noises, like something walking but she thought it to be just another creature and ignored it. She opened her eyes and looked first at Mona and then at Zantos.
She nodded and gave a slight smile, "I will stay with you. In case one of these creatures decides to attack again." She said that but the real reason was just as he said. Things did seem a little out of place and she wanted to be around for whatever happened.

Re: The Path to a Greater Future
Mona pursed her lips, intrigued. Yes, she was a bit curious. If only her mate was here with her. He could sense magically activity. A pang of longing stabbed at her silent heart, making it almost contract, but she pushed it away for the moment. She watched Brilyn as the younger vampire closed her eyes and opened then a bit later. She chewed on her bottom lip, then grinned, making sure her fangs were firmly smooth with her other teeth so they weren't as prominent within her mouth,"Yes, I shall stay as well. I haven't had a good adventure in at least three decades." she said idly. She was listening, as Brilyn had probably done. The scent of Zantos's charred food was strong but...what was that? Her head lifted to catch the smell better. Another human or elf, perhaps? She had been all over this island, and had found no mortal, other than Zantos. She came back to herself and relaxed, sinking to the ground gracefully and crossing her legs. She looked from the rabbits to Zantos and back, wrinkling her nose,"How can you eat that? Cooked, I mean, not charred. I remember nothing of my life before I was Turned, so I've no memory of how food tasted. I can eat it, true enough, but it's almost repulsive to me now." she said curiously, tilting her head like a small child would.

Re: The Path to a Greater Future
Zantos was not quite sure how to answer. "Well, it's not too much of a problem for me... I just put it in my mouth, chew it, and swallow it. Seems pretty simple and natural for me. Of course, for you, it's probably not natural... basically it's for the same reason you would feed on blood, you know?"
Rezekiel walked into a large chamber on the main floor of the mansion to find a band of his monsters waiting. He muttered a few words quietly, and they made black symbols in the air. At a glance to them, the monsters started heading out in a battle formation out of the room and then out of the mansion. As Rezekiel stepped out with them, he suddenly, felt three presences on the island he had not noticed before. Deciding to accompany the monsters in case the presences he felt tried to get in the way, he walked out with them as they headed towards the southern tip of the island.
Zantos looked in the direction of the mansion as he heard a small noise and was shocked to find the battalion of monsters marching towards the southern tip of the island. He met each of his new companions' eyes, lingering for a bit on Brilyn's, then said, "Well I'm going to take a closer look. If I get caught... I don't much care." With that, he started running towards the column of monsters as quietly as he could trying to stay in the cover of boulders or trees for as much of the way as he could.

Re: The Path to a Greater Future
Brilyn sighed as Zantos ran toward a small battalion of monster looking creatures. Surely he could not be so foolish as to take all of them head on? They had to have a leader being as organized as they were and he or she was not even visible and who knows how strong they were. She shrugged it off and followed after him quickly and silently. She pulled out her dagger as she went to stand behind Zantos in a crouched position when they were a great deal closer to the monsters.
She leaned in and whispered in his ear, barely loud enough to hear, "You must make your decisions more carefully. We do not know why these things are here or who leads them and I don't think capturing anyone they meet is on their agenda."
She quickly leaned away and turned her head ever so slightly to watch for Mona.

Re: The Path to a Greater Future
Vermona pursed her lips as a shudder went down her spine. Mortal food was as edible to her as blood was to them. She got physically sick if she consumed food. Her ears twitched at the sound of marching, and she turned to see a near army sized group of monsters. She sighed as Zantos took of toward it at a run. Her eyes rolled, then she, too, was running. She caught of with Zantos and grabbed onto his wrist, her grasp like solid iron, and pulled him along with her. Once they were much closer she stopped. They were hidden by some trees from the view of the battalion, and she scanned around them for who might be the leader. She raised her head and sniffed carefully. Her pupils narrowed. The female vampire crouched beside Zantos, her arms circling in front of her chest in a defensive position,"I smell something behind the monsters." she murmured to Zantos and Brilyn,"I'm not sure if its human, elven, or dwarfish, or something else entirely. Its not a scent I've encountered before."

Re: The Path to a Greater Future
Zantos could sense that the two vampires deemed his decision of investigating the monsters so closely a foolish decision, and he could not blame them. It was reckless enough even for him, and probably much more so with two vampires, who were probably used to leading a very careful life. But now, he did not know quite what to do except keep watching as they neared the coast, for he didn't want to give away their position now that Brilyn and Vermona were with him.

Re: The Path to a Greater Future
Brilyn looked over at Mona as she spoke and turned her head to better use her senses. After a moment she could smell something too. It wasn't like the monsters at all. In fact it was such a very different smell all together that she knew whoever this other person was would be someone they all needed to be wary of. She pursed her lips exposing her fangs and moved to the other side of Zantos, balling her hands into fists and crouching low.
"What shall we do about this?" She whispered, her voice barely carrying over the small wind that blew. "These monsters pose no threat to us yet but if we are spotted they might. It might be best to get the jump on them.. or we could flee."

Re: The Path to a Greater Future
"These monsters can pose a threat all right. A friend of mine spoke of them. They are strong and dangerous, and whoever controls them could hurt or kill hundreds if not thousands of lives. I don't intend to let that happen, regardless." she murmured in reply, her voice soft as well. She sighed and clenched her fists,"If whoever is leader is human, or any other mortal, then he has weaknesses." she murmured,"Weaknesses that myself and Brilyn can take advantage of. If he isn't fully human..." her lips curved into a smile,"then this will be a good challenge." she said, and her voice was almost a seductive purr.

Re: The Path to a Greater Future
Zantos looked back at the line of monsters and thought for another moment.
"There's way too many of them for us to be able to kill them all in one battle right here, but I don't want to flee, I know that for sure. And by the looks of it, they're headed for the coast, possibly to be dispatched onto the mainland. They will pose a threat there, of that we can all be sure. We either have to go back to the mainland and alert somebody who can help or make a stand and stop them right now. If we flee to the mainland, chances are, a lot of lives will be lost before we can get help. We should try to stop them here, somehow. Maybe we can launch a small attack to distract them and set them on our tail, then retreat and keep on attacking from the shadows. It's the only way we can take care of all of them. Although... their leader may cause us problems."

Re: The Path to a Greater Future
Brylin thought for a moment, looking at her surroundings. It would help if one of them could do some kind of ranged attack to lure them in the other direction but they needed to act fast whatever they decided. She crouched lower and moved closer to the two others.
"I might have a way to get us there fast," She said in a low voice. She fiddled with her hands and turned her face a way before continuing. "I can make portals and I can make them take us to somewhere to get defenses up against these creatures... The only thing is I've never brought other people through with me and I don't know how much energy I would have after we got there.. that is just a small idea though.."

OOC: I quite honestly have no idea of what to type, and I don't want to do three or four lines of saying Vermona listened to Brilyn and Zantos. Pass.

Re: The Path to a Greater Future
Zantos looked at Brilyn as she spoke. Despite the situation, he could not resist an urge that overcame him to smile. For someone who was undoubtedly feared by so many others, she was being shy around him.
"That does sound like a good idea, and if you want, we can lend you our strength..." he looked over at Vermona. "Well, I'd be willing to, anyway." He paused for another moment, then added, "Again, I'm the one choosing to stay here. You two don't have to if you don't want to."
As Rezekiel and his forces neared the three hidden ones he had sensed earlier, his lips curled into a tight snarl. They were watching him, and he knew it. He did not know whether they planned to attack, but it no longer mattered. He sensed power in them, and left to their own devices, they could cause great damage to this particular horde through guerilla tactics. Perhaps his best bet would be to attack directly. If he could dispatch them quicker, then they might kill of less of his numbers. He sent a quick mental order to the creatures, who at once changed direction and headed towards the three.

Re: The Path to a Greater Future
Brylin looked at Zantos with a puzzled look. He couldn't understand why the human was smiling at a time like this but she knew that smiling was a better sign than an indication of fear. She had never been in any kind of situation like this and she was utterly lost as to what to do.
"What do you think we should do Vermona?" She kept her voice low but paused her movements. She listened carefully and could hear the monster's footsteps and knew that they were now coming straight for them. "Whatever it is we plan on, it has to be now. Our cover is blown and we need a course of action."

Re: The Path to a Greater Future
Vermona pursed her lips a bit,"Your offer is noted, though I'm not sure how actual energy would affect Brilyn, with her being a vampire. We gain strength from feeding, or at least I do, and right now we don't have the time to test Brilyn's restraint on you right at this very moment." she said. Her mouth hurt, more specifically her upper jaw and gums. It was her fangs, begging to be free. She let her canines extend to their full two inches long, hanging over her bottom lip even with her mouth slightly open,"It is alright that we stay here, Zantos. It was a good option, Brilyn, but whoever is in charge of these things knows we are here and will have us hunted. We have no choice but to fight now. Zantos, you can go straight towards them, me and Brilyn will take the sides. Brilyn, you go around to the left, I'll go right. Do not hold back for anything. Their almost on us; move, now!" she growled, then opened her mouth wide, baring her fangs, and snarled. She launched herself to the right, circling around a bit so she came at them from an angle.

Re: The Path to a Greater Future
Zantos quickly vaulted over the rock he was hiding from, heading for the mass of creatures head on as Vermona and Brilyn closed in on the sides. The creatures suddenly became a mass of stretching limbs and flashing claws everywhere, aiming to get a piece of their attackers. In their frenzy, they got in each other's way, not only hampering their movements but also creating considerable friendly fire. The monsters were obviously more greedy than they were intelligent.
The first few were fairly easy to pick apart, but their sheer numbers soon became overwhelming. He could not see how Vermona and Brilyn were doing, but he doubted they were any better off. Soon, instead of pressuring the monsters, they were pushing him back, and he could only defend himself instead of attack. Then, the leader started to launch magical attacks from a distance, making the situation even more difficult. He didn't seem to have any interest in keeping them alive, and he started to get the feeling that they would eventually have to run in order to survive. But first, he wanted to take as many down as he could.

Re: The Path to a Greater Future
Brilyn crouched low and ran to the left, catching the creatures on that side by surprise. The ones in the back started piling over each other to get to her and soon they were in a writhing mass. She pulled out her dagger and was easily able to pick off the ones on the edge of the pile. She did not know anything about these creatures and knew that her normal fighting style would be completely useless here. The only thing she could do was slice and dice up the creatures and hope that that was enough to stop them. They soon started becoming more organized and stopped climbing over each other. They started forming a line with it attempting to inch it's way around her so they would surround her from every angle. She lunged at the ending creatures, dealing blows that only made them cringe back. More of them were coming now and from somewhere at the rear of the battalion, magical attacks were randomly coming her way, making it harder to keep the creatures from circling behind her. She would soon be over run and once they had her surrounded, she have more to handle than she could deal with.

Re: The Path to a Greater Future
Vermona glanced around as she ripped the extended arm off of a creature. Things were not going well for their side. She bared her fangs and lunged for another. Beast. She had already killed ten, and there were several more. She was starting to weaken a little bit. She considered feeding from one of the beasts, but that idea was truly repulsive now that she was back in her senses. She looked up from her last kill, crimson blood dripping from her chin as she panted, her fangs stained red. Brilyn, Zantos, meet up with me in the center. We will work better if we have each others backs. she said, and stood from her crouch. Something slashed at her thigh, making her go down on one knee. She looked down and saw a wide gash that went down to the bone. It was too severe for the venom in her blood to heal right away. She grit her teeth, stood, and ran toward the center.

Re: The Path to a Greater Future
Brilyn stopped momentarily as she heard Mona and thrust her claws into the nearest beast. She looked around, trying to find a path to the middle. She crouched low, looking between the creatures but she could see nowhere that would be easy for her to dodge the creatures and get to the middle. A sudden glint out of the corner of her eye made her look up to the sky above. A thought came into her head and her lips portrayed a glimpse of a smile. She readied her arms and legs on the ground and bent her body down and in an instant she was in the air. She landed on one of the creatures head a couple rows back and jammed her feet into its skull. She could hear the crack as the bone in the creature's head broke and could feel its blood soaking into her shoes. She quickly bent her legs and jumped again, propelling herself into the air once more and continued this fashion as she made her way to the middle of the cluster and swiped at any monster stupid enough to attempt to attack her.

Re: The Path to a Greater Future
Zantos heard Vermona as she said to meet in the center, and something about what she said made a strange image burn into his head, one where they stood victorious over every single monster, each of them slain. Shaking the image from his head, he jumped up into the air, did a flip, and sent a barrage of lightning onto several monsters that were clustered in the middle, making a clearing of dead or crippled bodies that he could land on. As he landed on the ground, he saw Vermona painfully make her way to the middle, while Brilyn was already there. He quickly stabbed a creature from the back that stood between Vermona and Brilyn. Then, with no communication necessary, they all stood back to back and continued to fend off the creatures. He started to truly believe that as long as they were able to hold up without faltering, then they would be able to kill them all.
Rezekiel closed his eyes for a moment in annoyance. This triplet of... whatever they were, for none of them seemed to be truly human, or at least completely so, seemed more competent than he had anticipated. At this rate, his army would be destroyed if he only sent small units onto the mainland. He would have sacrifice these and retreat himself to plan a way to send the entire army onto the coast. And as he slinked back into the shadows, the idea started taking form in his mind.

Re: The Path to a Greater Future
Vermona peeled back her lips and snarled as she lashed out once more. Her ears twitched as, above the loud clamoring of the enemies around her and her companions, she heard the faint sound of footsteps. It was nearby, of that she was certain, but not close enough to be directly involved with the action. She glanced out of the corner of her eyes, first to the left, then the right, getting the location on her friends. I heard something a little ways away. It might be the leader of this group. What is your vote; stay and fight, or flee and go after them? she asked. She looked ahead as another monster came running right for her. She lunged forward, then back-flipped hard, kicking the beast in the head with her foot and knocking it away. She landed in a half couch, and spun around while still crouched, tripping another monster with out outstretched leg. Then she shifted into a sprinter's position and pushed off, opening her jaws to bare her fangs and roaring like only an undead vampire could. She somersaulted backward again back into position, guarding Brilyn and Zantos's backs from a surprise attack.

Re: The Path to a Greater Future
Brilyn kept up her attack on the beasts in front of her, flanking to the sides as they tried to take advantage of the distractions that occupied the attention of her companions. She pulled out her dagger and slashed the nearest monster across the chest as she pondered Mona's words. She listened with a renowned vigor and could barely hear of the footsteps that she mentioned. It would be best for us to abandon these things and follow whatever or whoever it is. They might be leaving to get more forces to attack us with. She tried to be as simple as she could so she wouldn't get distracted from the fight. She took a step backwards, lessening the distance between the others while she continued to attack, the corpses of the monsters piled up higher around them.

Re: The Path to a Greater Future
Zantos was a bit disappointed at not being able to have dispatched all the enemies, but he had to agree that following the leader would be a more sensible approach. "Alright, let's go," he said, ducking under two claws that had tried to cut him and then swinging his two swords in an an arc so that both arms of the creatures were cut off.
"Vermona, lead the way, since you heard where he went," Zantos said, blocking the monster's claws with his blades and in quick succession stabbing or slashing them in deft maneuvers that were too quick for them to follow.
Rezekiel walked back towards the mansion, making sure to cast concealment spells around himself so he could blend in with the surroundings and remain undetectable. The three were capable fighters, and seemed intelligent enough, so he knew one way or another they would be able to track him down, but he only needed a few minutes of time to get to where he needed.

Re: The Path to a Greater Future
Vermona nodded her head and snarled, her fangs glistening from the blood of the monsters. She reared back and punched a monster in the face, breaking it's jaw, or whatever held it's mouth together, then surged forward to her left. This way! she called to her companions. Her eyes darkened to a cold, blood-thirsty black as she let herself fall into a hunting crouch and stalk toward her prey. She panted with her mouth open so that she could catch flavors and scents better. She ran slower than her usual full speed because she had Brilyn and Zantos. She saw whoever it was, and also noticed that there seemed to be something big and heavy nearby, and the person was walking toward it. It felt like a building. She snarled and ran the last few meters before stopping in front of the mortal. It was male. She glanced at her companions. Flank him, make a triangle so that he doesn't have an easy escape. she advised. She hissed and bared her fangs at the male,"Who are you? Why are you creating this army?" she demanded in a distorted voice, due to her long fangs.

Re: The Path to a Greater Future
Brilyn thrust her hand through the chest of a monster heading her way and retracting it, hissing as her arm came out slimy and covered in gup. She turned around and followed Mona, easily able to keep her pace until they found who they were searching for. She did not see him but she trusted her judgement and flanked to the side almost opposite of her and crouched down ready to attack, her fangs bared.

Re: The Path to a Greater Future
Zantos quickly followed Vermona, surprised at the speed with which she had found the man. He quickly filled his position to complete the triangle, despite the fact that the man was still invisible. But then, all of a sudden, he dropped his enchantments, and a man with silver earrings a jet-black mohawk stood before them, in tight black leather armor.
Rezekiel snarled with impatience. Everything he did was always judged. He conceded to himself that his methods weren't the most thoughtful or benevolent all the time, but sometimes he wished people would leave him alone instead of constantly meddling with his plans. What did they know of his motivations? What did anyone know about him at all?
Without revealing any of these inner emotions, he spoke in a smooth, even tone. "Leave me to my business. I do not wish to see any of you harmed, but I'll kill you myself if you continue to interfere."

Re: The Path to a Greater Future
Vermona hissed through her fangs, her cold, glittering black eyes locked onto the biggest vein in his neck,"We only wish to know what you're doing here. We did not say that we were actually here to stop you, did we? A few of your monsters attacked us earlier, and then we found this army. We only wonder at the purpose behind it, and how one person could gather so many." she clarified, straightening slightly from her hunter's crouch, though she was still ready to spring if she had to.

Re: The Path to a Greater Future
Rezekiel's irritation increased.
"My plans are of no concern to you, and you needn't worry. This isn't an evil scheme to cause anyone any damage, at least no one that doesn't already deserve it. Leave this place now, or I'll cut you down where you stand," he said to them, snarling.
Zantos looked at the man, wondering why he seemed so tense all of a sudden when he had been so calm before.
"You can't gather an army of beasts of this nature and not expect us to be suspicious," he said. "Besides, I hardly think you're in a position to be making any threats."
Zantos had to parry the slash that the man had aimed at his right side, and only just managed to block it. The attack had been incredibly fast. Even as he watched, he gave an underhanded kick to both Vermona and Brilyn, then launched himself in the air with a backflip and sent black fireballs down on them, using the explosion to disappear from sight inside the large library where they had all started.

Re: The Path to a Greater Future
Vermona straightened from her crouch completely but still bared her fangs so that this man knew what he was dealing with,"Oh really? Who's to say we wouldn't want to help you if we knew the reason behind you doing this?" she retorted in kind, hissing softly. She growled in her chest when he slashed at Zantos and kicked toward her and Brilyn. She leaned away from the kick and then sprinted after him, intent on finding the reasong why he was so determined to get to the library.

Re: The Path to a Greater Future
Brilyn easily dodged the kick directed at her but she was not foolish enough to think the attack was serious. Immediately after he fired fireballs at her and her companions and used the smoke to disappear. She instantly followed after the man with Mona and Zantos. She knew that Zantos would have trouble keeping the pace of herself and Mona but they had no time to wait now. She looked over her shoulder to gauge how fast he was running before turning around and crouching low to speed up her pace.

Re: The Path to a Greater Future
OOC .::. Are vampires faster than elves? Cause Zantos is human but he has the speed and strength of an elf. Just wondering.
IC .::. Zantos snarled and sped after Brilyn and Vermona into the library, looking around for any signs of Rezekiel. There were none. The building was huge, and he was unsure whether days of digging the charred remains of bookcases would have yielded any book that was still in any good condition to be read. The place should have been untouched and deserted, but it was obvious that there had been recent activity. Ashes lay overturned in places where people had met, and there were a few fresh scorch marks on the wall as if there had been fighting inside.
He looked around, slightly annoyed. No noises could be heard and there were several rooms and doors to where Rezekiel could have gone. "Do you guys want to split up?" he asked.
Rezekiel dashed up the crumbling stairs, then to the door on the right, closing it silently behind him and then looking around. Powerful as he was, he wasn't about to take on three enemies of substantial power at the moment. Even for him, it would be foolish to think he would escape unscathed, and he wanted to prevent any injuries if it was possible.

Re: The Path to a Greater Future
OOC: Eh...It's kind of a slow version of hyperspeed, I think, at least that's how I see it in my mind.
IC: Vermona flashed side by side with Brilyn, but glanced back to keep track of Zantos. Once they reached the library she had to wrinkle her nose; the scent of ash and fire was quite strong in here. It masked the scent of the man they were trying to track. Mona pursed her lips and shook her head at Zantos,"No. If we do that he can pick us off one by one by surrounding and overwhelming. Together we can watch and protect each others backs." she said, sniffing the air to try and catch his elusive scent. She closed her eyes and concentrated, but still she couldn't catch anything. She growled in her chest with annoyance,"I can't catch anything past this ash and burnt smell." she said, curling her lip with distaste.

Re: The Path to a Greater Future
OOC: Same here for the most part. I always viewed vampires as being a half ish step above elves.
IC: Brilyn stopped with Vermona and Zantos as she looked around the broken and ash filled library. She wanted to thoroughly search the place so bad but she knew that there were more important things to do at the moment. She shook her head to clear it and turned her attention in front of her. The space in between the other two talking was filled with silence and the man they were pursuing had seemingly disappeared from them. He knew the man was somewhere inside but she hadn't the faintest idea as to which way he would have gone. She sniffed the air apprehensively but the only thing she could smell was ash and decay. Her face wrinkled up with displeasure and she stopped breathing in all together. She nodded at Vermona's comments as she scrutinized the area. "I cannot smell anything past this stench either..." Her eyes suddenly caught sight of something and she pointed but made no indication of her moving.
"There," She said as she motioned with her head as well, "Footprints on the other side of the room. I was in here a bit ago but they look bigger than mine. Could they be his?" She dropped her arm as a sudden weakness had come over her. She had fed before coming to the island but not enough to sustain her for all this combat. Quite frankly she was not used to it and she hadn't used her energy wisely and even standing there now she could feel it slowly draining from her. She tensed her body and stood more upright with a confidence that hid her oncoming weakness.

Re: The Path to a Greater Future
Rezekiel quickly pushed the bookcase aside and stepped into the hidden tunnel behind it, placing it back in its position from the other side. He calculated his options for a moment. He needed to dispatch his army of creatures. How he was going to be able to do that with these intruders, however, was proving difficult. As always, there was the option of sending them underwater with those aquatic creatures he had found in the cove beneath the island, but it would require time he wasn't sure he had. It was his only option, however. He had to set up defenses behind him, however, to slow down the intruders.
Zantos nodded to Vermona. "Yeah, you're probably right," he said.
Looking to where Brilyn was pointing, he nodded. "Let's go, it's our only lead," he said. They all moved towards the staircase and followed the just visible tracks left in the ash. Following them, it led them to a door on the right, which they opened to find an empty room. Here, the ash was absent and no footprints could be found. There was only a bookcase and a few empty chairs and desks. There was a window, but when he looked outside of it he couldn't see anyone. "Where do you think he went?" he asked.
