Skills: Twin knives: Raine learned how to fight with twin knives from her father. The fighting lessons were a tenth birthday present from Darren, along with the knives. Raine sports a supple leather belt with small sheaths for one knife at each side of her hips. Raine prefers to fight with her knives in hand, but can throw them fairly well. The twin knives are her main weapon to resort to.

Sword: When Raine cannot access her twin knives for any reason, she carries a long, thin sword at her right hip in case of dire emergency. A good friend of her father's had forged the sword when she was born as a gift to the child, having a feeling that she would need it someday. Now Raine carries it with her as a precaution should her knives be unusable. She is skilled in attacking, but her defense needs some work, as she is a bit slow to react to enemy blows.

Character Personality: When meeting new people, Raine tends to be eager to make friends, but she will quail slightly at any sign of perceived threat. While she can make friends easily, it takes time for her to trust them completely. Raine's demeanor is generally pleasant and happy. She is quick to laugh and slow to anger. She is always willing to look for good in all things, but will kill Empire soldiers and allies without a moment of thought. When in battle, Raine thinks of nothing but keeping her friends alive and sending the enemy into the cold embrace of death. She is somewhat rash, however, putting herself needlessly into harm's way, either in anger, fright, or to save a friend. When confronted, Raine has a naturally defiant personality, not to be trifled with. When in tranquility, she is a bright presence, almost never showing any sign of being troubled. Raine doesn't complain of any problems or injuries she may have, preferring to bear the burden of her troubles alone rather than try to shift part of it onto another being. Her eating habits are normal, except after a battle. She prefers to sit aside from the others, her nose buried in a book to take her mind off the battle. It is then when she generally refuses to eat until the next day.

Character History: Raine was never a popular girl. While her generation was out on the streets playing, she was inside reading her books, learning new things. The other children never asked her if she wanted to come out with them, so she never bothered, and stuck with her books. When Raine was fourteen, a regiment of Empire soldiers raided Teirm. Her father went out to defend the city, promising Kari and Raine that he would return by nightfall. Raine and her mother crouched in their home for hours, waiting for Darren to come back. Nightfall came, and the battle noises were considerably closer. Kari could stand it no longer, and ran out of the house carrying Darren's axe, commanding Raine to stay in the house. Raine fell asleep waiting for her parents to return, and when it was morning, the noises of battle had faded. She picked her way around the city, asking for news of her parents. Finally, a young man spoke their names and looked at Raine expectantly. She nodded, and he told her that her parents had been killed in the confusion. Darren had been overwhelmed by the soldiers, and Kari had been trapped inside a locked building set afire. In shock, Raine gathered her personal belongings and set out from Teirm, trying to piece her life back together. She eventually wandered into Dras-Leona and spent the next year there, finding small jobs that earned her enough money to get by. She visited the library a few times, but her passion for reading had faded somewhat after the death of her parents. She took to wandering the city, sometimes sitting alone beside Leona Lake, gazing at the mountains that blocked the view of the place that had once been her home. As she got older she found better work that paid more, and soon had her savings stashed in a small leather bag she had taken from her home before leaving Teirm. Each day is a struggle despite her small profits, and she is in a constant search for a friend.

Weapons:

Twin Knives: The knives have green handles and straight blades that curve slightly upwards approximately two inches from the tip of the blade. Each blade has Raine's initials etched into the base of the blade, nearly touching the hilt.
Sword: A hand-and-a-half sword with a plain black hilt

Weakness / Fear: After being half-drowned by her lifetime enemy Aditya when she was thirteen, Raine had a phobia of drowning. She can comfortably go into any body of water, but she doesn't go underwater unless it is absolutely necessary.

Animal Companions: Calyniel: A sleek black cat, Raine found Calyniel in Dras-Leona raiding her dinner while her back was turned. She made no move to stop the cat, and it slowly became attached to her after Raine began to set out food for her. They became friends, and Raine named the cat Calyniel after a character in her favourite book.

Character's Physical Description: Raine stands 5'6" tall with a slightly oval-shaped face, inherited from her mother that is framed by her deep auburn hair. Loose curls of hair reach down to the middle of her back. Raine is almost never seen without her elastic brown hairband. She can't stand having her hair hang in her face, yet hates ponytails. Her search for an effective hair restraint was rewarded when her mother sewed a strip of elastic inside a piece of dark brown fabric, creating an effective hairband.Her eyes are a dark brown, usually lit with contentment. Her skin bears the slight shade of a recent tan, inherited from her father. Her limbs are slim, but strong and supple. She tends to wear short or no sleeved shirts, usually a light shade of green. She despises skirts, preferring to dress in clothes that allow her easy movement and instant reach of weapons.

Dreams for the Future: To find friends that will stay near her for life, and to avenge her parents' deaths

Reason for Dreams: Raine led a lonely life, and she aches for friends that will stick to her through thick and thin. The Empire took away her family, destroying the last shreds of her life, and she will not let it go. She will stop at nothing to see the end of the Empire.
