His office was always a mess. I oft would frolick in the fjords of his imagination by reading his story ideas, which were sketched out in note form under a soiled coffeecup.

I quit this practice, not too long ago, for personal reasons. But in the last few weeks (Chris was planning his trip to Europe, I remember) I did happen to read some plans for book three.



Now, the basic jist of it is that Eragon ends up learning that magic technique where he draws power from the elements- he learns it on his own- as Oromis still refuses to tell him anything.



Eragon tells Roran to help the Carvahall population settle in while he goes off in persuit of "the other rider".

I don't know why Paolini decided to make Eragon suddenly jump to persuing Murtagh- maybe I read his notes wrong. Anyway, he makes a long trek north where he meets an elf encampment, severly damaged.



The encampment contains several non-militant elves who say they 'fled Elesmera' Again, I don't know why.



The elves urge Eragon to aid their warriors assault on Galbatorix kingdom's "heart" so he and Saphira make their way (south, now) to the Northern front.



Here, we find Galbatorix destroying the elves- thats all he wrote about that.



Meanwhile, Roran freaks out with another Katrina thought, then he and Quimby's widow begin making their way alone to Helgrind.



Orik becomes the new dwarven king (of course) and Volund is passed onto him.



The notes we're a bit illegible here- but there was something about Volund being magic and 'unleashing' power when Orik wields it.



Now, there were a few concept ideas-

-One of which is where Orik becomes the final rider.

-Arya becomes the final rider (and queen, when her mother is slewn by Galbatroix), and when her dragon (named Faolin) courts Saphira, she falls in love with Eragon, fulfilling Angela's prophecy.

-Angela dies (not sure how).

-Oromis dies saving Murtagh from Eragon (it's very star wars, I thought. Eragon starts going to the darkside)

-Galbatorix is a Shade, his spirit being that of an evil black dragon (named Seatumal) slain by the old Eragon.



There was an anticlimax idea where Galbatorix wins and Eragon joins him.

And where Galbatorix and his dragon have been dead for several years and his high-courtsmen had been telling everyone he was still alive.



I read these things over a period of about 1 month.

There was more, I'm sure. But I can't remember any more right now.

The Arya notes clear up alot, with the passing of the rulership among all races. Galbatorix being a shade is strange, to say the least.

If Galbatorix is a shade, that may be the reason why he has grown so powerful. I don't remember if in the book (or was it here) that it was mentioned that dragons would not allow a Shade to ride them. We haven't seen Galbatorix actually LEAVE his castle. When he had planned to do so, it was to interrogate Ayra, but Eragon came and messed up that particular outing.

Eragon turning to the "dark side" that's hard to believe.

Ayra, Queen of the Elves, there is plausibility here.

Orik being the next dwarf king; COOL!

Angela dying: NOOOOOO, I like her

Roran and Birgit going to save Katrina; that doesn't sound good.

The elves being attacked by Galbatorix; well there are more elven cities besides Ellesméra; so that can happen.

Oromis dying to save Murtagh from Eragon; that doesn't make sense to me.

Orik becomes the final rider; Arya becomes the final rider: it makes more sense that Ayra should be it, if Orik is to become king.

That Ayra would name her dragon Faolin; that is sweet.

Galbatorix wins and Eragon joins him; that would make Incomer happy.


I don't know. How this poster was able to access CP's note, that's a mystery. (I dont't think it was right but at least he/she didn't make money out of it. (But it certainly is a huge breech of confidence).

i think eragon will stay on the good side and he kills gabby my useing a spell or something like tht that makkes him leave the land forever (the just my opinon)

I doubt that Roran will give up Katrina so easily
But he may probably become the final Rider.

Here are a few thing I think could be possible, but unlikely, and yet quite interesting if it did happen in the third book.


In the second book, Katrina is taken away, and is now under the Empire's control. With Sloan so hellbent on marrying off Katrina to someone suitable, Galbatorix makes the decision and gives Katrina to Murtagh. Roran and Eragon go to rescue Katrina and find the thrid egg. Roran becomes a Rider. Eragon and Roran free Murtagh from Galbatorix's control. The three of them defeat Galbatorix. In the process, Murtagh's dragon is killed. In place of Galbatorix, Murtagh becomes the ruler of the Empire. Murtagh also weds Nasuada. Roran and Eragon, and their loved ones(Arya, Katrina) leave Alagaesia to explore the rest of the world.

I'd like to add something to this thread. In the first post, the mysterious someone introduces some CP notes he read. Well... But here it is said:

The idea of Arya as rider loving Eragon because of their dragons mating makes tons of sense. When Eragon talks to Trianna in Farthern Dur, Saphira tells him that any relationships would affect her as well.

That still doesn't mean, that Eragon's "girl" would necessarily have to be a dragon rider...

Menoa, Eragon's heart belongs to Arya. The ONLY way for her to return his affection is for her to become a dragon rider. The "love rectangle works like this:

Saphira = Eragon
+ +
Greenie = Arya

What I was saying is that if Eragon and Arya are in love then the green dragon and Saphira will probably be, or vice versa.

The thing about what Saphira said to Eragon about Trianna comes into play here. If Saphira and Greenie mate, then Arya's feelings will get involved.

yes, considering saphira told eragon that when he gets involved with a girl she will feel his feeling so he will feel her feeling for the green dragon and arya and him will feel the same about each other..

The feelings are linked, so Arya or a girl will probably be the next dragonrider.

It has to be Arya or else Eragon wouldn't go for it. It makes their feelings involved, but it won't change Eragon much.

If it is another woman, it won't change who Eragon loves. If it is Arya, which is the more likely, it couldn't make him love her any more!

Thank you!!!! That's the word i've been looking for!!! There is a lot of fore shadowing in Eragon, like Arya having green magic.

I think everyone who has read the books can name at least one example of the top off their heads, so he is making it really obvious.

Oh yes definitely! There is so much more to him than meets the eye. CP hasn't told us enough of him or his past. All we know is he's an evil tyrant who wants to kill Eragon or soemthing like that and rules the Empire. I want to know how he became ruler of Alagaesia and what he did before Eragon became a dragonrider. There is so much history to him that has not yet been revealed and I think in Empire CP will finally tell us more on the subject of Galby. Yay!!!

I wanna know what his family is like. Maybe Eragon and Galby are related

Ok just a question about book 3 since this has to do with book 3. If(and I think they will) the Raz'zac die when will they die and how. I am figuring that towards the end of the book perhaps a little after the middle...seems about right. I have a feeling that Roran along with Eragon may end up killing them in some sort of huge battle. Not sure where though.
