because dragons r real. i'm not making this up or being funny, but the History Channel actually did a study after the release of the Eragon movie and they concluded that dragons really did exist during prehistoric times. the fire they made was from brimstone that they stored in their necks and they actually could fly because they were a direct descendant of the pterodactyl. they didn't say anything on size or magical powers tho. those were probably introduced during the Dark Ages to make them seem even more fierce and terrifying. that is the truth, Scout's honor, cross my heart and hope to die.

any1 here ever see that special on animal planet called DRAGONS!? It was really good... it was saying how possible it was that dragons were real, and i got to say it was really covincing! it talked about how almost every culture in the world has something to do with a dragon/ dragon type creature in its beliefs, and some cultures are across entire seas... how could they comunicate back then?? Then they put together an anatomy of what a dragon would look like if they did exist.... they even came up with a completely LOGICAL WAY THEY COULD BE ABLE TO BREATH FIRE!!! it said there was a gland in its body... much similar to a fish's swim bladder (which if you don't know what it does, it inflates with air to keep the fish balanced in the water...) And this gland was filled with hydrogen and 2 chemicals so that when used it would ignite the hydrogen, Thus breathing fire!! The gland, being filled with hydrogen, was lighter then air and made the dragon a little lighter and helping it fly... It was a really good show

... i m not talking like a dragon like saphira that can talk to you and stuff... its very basic.. like a pteradatal or what ever how you spell it only its bigger and they found a way that an animal could breath fire... fit it with these descriptions and figure in that dragons are in about every culture through the world somewhere, and it becomes very possible that dragons once existed...

Also, that statement, that dragons were just made to inspire people's imaginations, is completely false. The Chinese believe a dragon is in fact a god or a force of nature. They revere it and say that to see a dragon is not only good luck, but a blessing from the gods as well, resulting in long life and wisdom. Now, those old stories, about dragon's pillaging villages and kidnapping princesses, was actually meant as a moral story to English youngsters. It was supposed to teach them manners and how to distinguish right from wrong. No dragon story is just a story. It's either a classic, like The Dragonriders of Pern, or it has a moral.

The dragons are a type of "god" figure in China (or was it japan?)..so they originated from there and carried on and formed more deeply in other parts of the world.

I KNOW that they are real. If they weren't how do I know so many? They actually speak and everything. Things and thoughts and stuff like drift into my head, like stuff that i'd never say or think but they end up floatin around in my head! it's pretty sweet.
i've read stuff though, that says that because Dragons are magical that when they die they return to the core of their own dimension.
i personally have a theory that Dragons came here a long time ago and got along with things really well until humans came and they had alittle clash and the Dragons just left and now their just out there waiting somewhere.

I hope they come back soon...

ehh also depends on what u consider a dragon.... Such as komodo Dragon.. which isnt named for the acual dragon we speak of so.. lol but hey all of you who dont think they existed... what whould describe a dragon for you then?

and Scarecrow, how could you possibly say that dragons never existed and never shall? i saw this very convincing documentary about dragons on the History Channel and they believe they actually found dragon footprints. they were much larger than other animals at the time and... get this... it was found in solid rock. not limestone or sandstone, but actual rock, like granite. now no dinosaur at the time those footprints were from could make prints that deep in a solid cliff face. it's beyond their strength. but dragons do have the strength, or at least the momentum required to force footprints into rock. so, i strongly suggest you change your statement.

*sigh* Scarecrow, why must you always be the pessimist? Dragons may not exist now, but they did exist at one time. The evidence is there and there are too many things that have been discovered for people to say that there were no dragons. I mean, it's like saying we have nothing to do with global warming even though it's clear that man is the main reason our climate is changing so rapidly.

i believe there was once dragons but as was said, man created things that impurified the air, water, and perhaps ...... even our very souls. why would dragons stay on earth with impurities of such, such ..... i dont have the word for it. but being that dragons very intelligent, they saw such things and left this planet for something more vast, less touchable .... space. perhaps one day when the world is near perishing, .... they jus might see it to help us.

Think about what I'm about to say, and make of it what you will. About twenty years ago some people were lost on a mountain in (i can't really remember where, I might have got the country wrong) Russia. It came a blizzard and they happened to stumble upon a cave. What should they find? A dragon encased in the ice, preserved for hundreds of years. (Notice I said hundreds and not millions.) In that very same part of the country there was a legend about some brave lord who went to that mountain to slay a dragon that had been killing his cows and sheep. Well, the legend goes on to say how the lord killed the dragon with a spear through the heart.

The people who found it happened to be scientists searching for something completely different. Delighted no doubt about what they had found they took it back to their lab and examined it. One of them was familiar with the legends of that part of the country. One problem. Upon examination of the dragon, they found it died of something other than being stabbed in the heart. Not to mention that it had been less than a year old when it died. They went back to the cave to see if they might be lucky enought to find the parent. They did, it was in a cave that had somehow been sealed off from the main one over the years. And what should they find sticking out of it? A spear. Straight through the heart.

You're probably thinking, what makes it a dragon though? They ran some tests on the young one when they found it and discovered it had two stomachs. One for regular food. And one for digesting phospherous rock. Kind of like the firestone chewed by dragons in the Dragonriders of Pern series. It also had some sort of flap on the roof of it's mouth and when the flap was opened a small hole was revealed. The flaps purpose was to protect the tongue and throat from the flames the dragons breathed.

With all this evidence I'm inclined to believe that dragons did exist and are more than likely extinct. Or maybe they adapted and live in the coldest regions of the North and South Poles, places no man has dared venture. Or if he has, never to return.

Hmmm....... If they did find real dragons in some mountain, couldn't they clone it with a Komoto Dragon or a Moniter Lizard?

To clone something you need to have a living organism that could have mated with it and produce offspring.

Perhaps they found a piece of Dragon skin.
But I do believe that dragon once roamed this planet and that their still alive, living in a place undiscovered by you humans!

You know that they found dragon eggs in Bulgaria, right? They also found a baby dragon ( supposedly) in a jar in Sweden that was being sold in a shop.

He's right. Have you ever seen soap when it hasn't been used in a while? It gets all flaky and cracked, so the person would put in oil so that the creation wouldn't be lost to weathering or anything. But i think it was alive at one point in time. as to the china. Glass or any other substance in relation to glass can't flake like in those pictures. It almost looks like some sort of transparent cloth is in there, but it might be flaked off preserved skin.

No it didn't mention that but in the pic it still has the umbilical cord and everything. They said if they took an x-ray they would be able to tell if it is real or not. But evidence says that dragons are real. I've heard that they found a dragon frozen in ice, I heard they found dragon eggs in europe, and then this baby dragon in a jar, how much more evidence does the world need?

There is actually a very good debate among historians about that. Truly until I read Harry Potter and Eragon, I was under the impression they were born like humans. This debate is logical; even in an egg they would need something to help draw nutrients to them.

Well...... the snake is closely related to the lizard and the lizard might be closely related to the dragon and snakes are hatched from eggs, so you never know.

Yeah just take a look at the Komodo Dragon. Thats one huge lizard I wouldn't want trying to kill me.

True but so far all my research has concluded that dragons are real and very closely related to lizards. They are related to birds but not as close as lizards.
In Tibet the lizard is said to be offspring of the Tibetan Lindworm known as the long, slender dragon with no wings. In asian culture they sometimes worship lizards cause they were thought to be offspring of The Dragon of the Four Rivers. That is the dragon that brought them prosperity for a time. Yes I do a lot of research.
