They'll would have to poison or assassinate Galby somehow because Eragon is not strong enough to take him on. He can only just match Thorn and Murtagh!

With the twelve spellcasters and Arya Eragon only just managed to beat Murtagh...

I think it'll be cool if they did put Galby in prison and he escapes and Eragon had to hunt him down.

Even if Murtagh does kill Galby he would still be the most hated person.

How will Galbatorix die?.... With great difficulty...

Galby would be able to block that though... unless he was distracted...

But I don't think that the stair case will happen. I mean how could it. CP needs to steal things from other stories to writes his own. It's not like that he comes up with most of the IC by him self. xD

Galbatorix and Eragon are fighting, Rihard walks in and makes some stupid comment then sits down to watch the fight. While they're fight Richard'll be sitting there going,

''Eragon, that parry was so bad - only 3/10 if you ask me - Galbatorix what the hell was that, that was no attack it was dive if anything.''

Eragon manages to kill Galbatorix and shouts out that he has one. Then Richard comes up behind him and stabs him. Then goes - ''It looks like I've won - what have I won by the way?''

Oh yeah, his war yell.

Maybe when Eragon and Galby are fighting he comes in and sits down. Then Eragon says something like nice move and Richard goes, ''unimpressed''.

He might kill a few innocent every now and then, but what is that?
It will only give him respect and create enjoyment for us ;D ;D

I have a feeling that Galby doesn't die thought - not sure why.

It would be cool if someone jumped in front of Galbys blade to save Eragon from a hit. Then Eragon manages to kill Galby.

It would he interesting if Galbatorix doesn't die. Currently, that ending scenario is quite likely, but Paolini will definitely do something in Inheritance to strengthen Eragon, and then he will kill Galbatorix.

Considering the difference in power between Eragon and Galbatorix, I think Galbatorix should win ultimately.

I think it'll be cool if Galby didn't die and got put in prison and then he managed to escaped to go to another land to cause havoc and Eragon has to chase his down.

That someone would be murtagh and I would yell in outrage as it would be an exact copy of Brom saving eragon.

Anyway, eragon alone will not kill galby. That's not cliche enough. We have to make this epically cliche. Only then will we reach the level of CP's clicheness.

Therefore:

Galby and Eragon fight.
Eragon (of course) loses. Saphira could be pinned down by the big black dragon whose name I can't spell.
Galby gloats and (ugh) monologues.
Murtagh rashly attacks Galby before he can give eragon the death blow and procedes to be slain by the evil king.
Eragon is filled with rage and attacks Galby with renewed (and totally unrealistic) energy.
The rest of the good guys who were conveniently standing by (and maybe lots of elves) 'lend eragon their power'.
Despite the fact that Galby has been absorbing dragon energy for over a century, they somehow have enough power to stop him.
Galby is defeated...but what's this? Arya appears to be slain.
Yadayadayada-she isn't dead-blablabla-happy ending.

That's what I'm going for...

I don't want Murtagh dead, but it is the only way I suppose.

I saw this coming the moment murtagh entered the story. Every time the self-preservationist enters you know he's gonna die. (except boromir who was 'homeland preservationist')

I think Galby going to stay alive, I can't see how Eragon can kill him, because all Galby has to do is put a force field around him and no one can get to him.

But adding to that, CP is following a plot he thought out when he was 15 years old. Not many would be able to became what CP is at the age of 15. He deserves some credits me think

That he was young is something that shows alot in the two first books.
But as time goes with the books, he is also growing as an author. If you compare Brisingr to Eragon, you see how much he has improved.

Brisingr is unlike the other two books more of his own. And not based on Star Wars. He is growing and that is why I look forward to Inheritance so much ^^

But this is a normal fantasy no matter how good he is. The bad guy will die and the hero will save the day. That is not bad writing nor is it cliche. It is a fantasy! ^^

@Librarian. I don't want Galby dead, or the hero, a good guy, to win. I think CP should create an ending better that every other fantasy novel - make the bad guys win for once maybe, or kill Galby in a harder way.

CP has said that his fans means alot to them and that he is aiming to please us as much as him self with the result. And since there are so many fans my money is that he goes on the majority.

Ok...just to clear things up...

1. I like CP. Not once have I said I disliked him.
2. I like the inheritance cycle. I am just a little bit annoyed with it at the moment.
3. I understand completely that every single fantasy out there will be 'cliche'. I'm not hating on that at all. There is always the bad guy facing off against the good guy, and every single time the bad guy will be destroyed by the good guy. However, in many well done fantasies they do not take so much from one story. Read The Name of the Wind or The Lies of Locke Lamora for example. These books are different, not because they are completely original, of course they borrow from other stories, but because the bulk of them is completely different from anything done before. And I'm not saying that Paolini's books are a complete copy either. I'm just saying it is incredibly easy to draw parallels between his books and Star Wars as well as The Lord of the Rings. For example:

Murtagh - Used to be a good guy but joined the bad guys and now is the Evil Kings number two (Darth Vader).

Eragon - Once a simple farmer boy who becomes a great hero and must fight and destroy the Evil King (Luke).

Galbatorix - I don't even have to say anything here.

Now I'm not saying that these characters are exactly like those from Star Wars because there are major differences between them, I'm simply saying that it is very easy to associate them with each other. Very easy.
And there's more.
Elves, Dwarves, Humans, Dragons. All exactly the same races as those used in LoTR. The dwarves and elves even have the same problems with each other. I'm not saying they are exactly the same, I'm once again saying it is easy to see where they came from.

I have problems with these (and many other parallels) but I'm not hating on CP or his books for this. Paolini is a good writer who is improving with each book. I'm simply annoyed; but not to the extent that I don't want to read the series any more. I'll read it and (hopefully) enjoy every minute of it.

It's also easy to predict what is going to happen.

Arya will be the next rider
Murtagh will die doing something heroic
Eragon will defeat Galby. This one I have absolutely no problem with. Of course the good guys will win. What I'm scared of in Eragon overcoming Galby in a totally unrealistic manner (like beating him with raw power or outsmarting him).

This is why I am annoyed. Not because it is cliche. But because the similarities to other incredibly famous works are so obvious (in my opinion) and because the ending, I fear, will come as absolutely no surprise to me.

You must have put a lot of effort into that. I agree with all of it. But this topic isn't about whether the Inheritance is cliche it is about how Galby is going to die.

We got into the whole cliche thing because people thought that it would be cliche with the whole Eragon kills galby. For me, it's just like any normal novel ^^

Oh that. I was too lazy to read the whole thing. But I'll take your word for it. If he is hinting that he won't kill him, then maybe he won't. And if he doesn't, the ending will in fact surprise me.

At least that would ensure a spontaneous ending.
The problem of Galbatorix not dying is (of course) that it will be insanely hard to resolve the ending. What will happen to him? Will he be imprisoned, banished, or will he turn good? Maybe he's just misunderstood and in the end everyone will find out what a nice guy he really is.

I don't really have anything against an unhappy ending so if that happened I would have no problem with it. However, almost every other inheritance cycle fan would absolutely hate it. Plus, CP is the happy ending kind of guy. (which I have no problem with...)

Galbatorix has an amazing amount of energy, so how will Eragon over come that to beat. Murtagh might be a distraction - to get himself killed - but Eragon isn't that powerful really.

Three words. Vault of Souls. It's going to either give Eragon immense strength, drain Galby of strength, or supply Eragon with some strong allies. Probably the first.

Oh yes the VoS. Eragon'll take energy from that to over come Galby.

The VoS is probably all the Elundinari - if I have spelt that right - that Galby has stolen, so it will give some strong energy to whoever uses it.

Well I thought of it because a dragons heart of hearts is like their soul and Galby must have put all the dragons heart of hearts somewhere when he took them all.

A good idea, but how exactly would eragon find it, get to it, and get it open. If it had all of Galbatorix's eldunari then he would guard it pretty well right. It would be way too secure for Eragon to get at.

I think it'll be in the room where Galby and Eragon would do the final battle.

Well there were a lot of dragons so he probably hasn't used them all yet. And after Saphira's egg was stolen you can bet that he will guard everything precious to him with even more force than before. Eragon really doesn't have a chance of getting at anything that Galby is guarding.

Which I agree with. The main thing that will interest me in the books will probably be the VoS. It is really the only thing that we are not given a clue about in the series which leads me to believe that CP is going to do something incredibly clever with it. Hopefully, it will have some major role with the defeat of Galby that doesn't involve a ton of power flooding eragon.

If you go onto youtube and see an interview with CP, it has him holding up a rough copy of book four and it has Inheritance, then underneath it Vault of Souls

The VoS I think will give Eragon extra power, and the with that he can defeat Galby.

Maybe he just kills Galby normally - maybe with Murtagh's help - then he frees the dragon's souls - which I think is in the Vault of Souls.

Normal - taking Galbys head and putting it on the end of a spear.
