End of a Legacy
OOC: OK, this RP thread is a sequel to the epic SF RPG thread "The Quest of Death." Anyone who was in the prequel, it would be very nice if you could post here, and anyone else who is a fan of Alagaesian history or has an interesting character, feel free to join in.
It has been over ten years since the Great Draconian War, when Alagaesia was, for the first time, under threat of destruction from an outside force controlled by the evil Queen of Darkness. Ever since the War that had made the ancient golden dragon of monstrous size a household name, Faefnir had kept a close eye on the healing of the land and the rebuilding of new towns in Du Weldenvarden and the Beor Mountains, including the dwarven outpost of Hedarth. This only increased his aging, as he was still hunting for the ever-dangerous Rimfax, who had managed to evade the efforts of not only Faefnir, but his mate Star gazer, the mountain dragons, and the many friends and allies Faefnir had made over the years, including his powerful brother from the ancient world, Aeraldi, and the now masterly Rider Eriel and her dragon, Emrhyst. Fankor and Laverra consistantly grew stronger ever since their training had begun with their heroic quest to locate Laverra's father, who knew the one weakness of the endless draconian forces. The twins of Faefnir and Star gazer, Teranor and Navarre, had just about as much power, magically and physically, as their parents. Navarre, who had accompanied her aging father, had even taken up a mate, although he wasn't as adventurous as she was and rarely left the Mountain.
They were flying over the eastern section of Alagaesia, heading toward the desolate and mysterious eastlands to make sure the draconian warriors were not massing for another attempt at invasion. Faefnir's age was starting to show from this flight; his wings didn't move at the brisk pace they used to, his soul-piercing blue eyes had faded so they weren't as deep as they used to be, wrinkles and weak spots from endless battles were starting to tinge his glorious golden scales, and there was a certain aura of sorrow about him, as he along with everyone else in Alagaesia knew that Faefnir the Great was not as great as he used to be. When he emerged from his trance 12 years ago, Faefnir was renewed, almost young for being 50 thousand years old. But the traces of his replenishing trance were all but gone, for his body had endured years upon years of wear and tear, running to every corner of Alagaesia and sometimes beyond. Faefnir, in his infinite wisdom, knew that he was in his twilight and it was only a matter of time before he retire and retreat into his desert stronghold, doing another 100-year trance so he could return to his people renewed and feeling young again. Faefnir also knew that eventually, he would have to do a mating flight with Star gazer again, for there was still one Twilight Sister left in the royal quarters, destined for their third hatchling. He hoped dearly that Star gazer and Teranor would join them, for Faefnir could barely last in battle without her aid these days...

Re: End of a Legacy
OOC: Oh noes! Are you gonna take Faefnir out of the rp?
IC: Emrhyst swooped downwards through endless masses of clouds. They rushed over her and her rider, but neither flinched at the water flying into their eyes. It was like dust in the wind settling on their limbs compared to what they had been subjected to in the past ten years.
Emrhyst spread her wings gracefully as she descend towards Faefnir's left flank, the winds she had sent down seemed to crush whatever was below them, the sunlight reflecting off her emerald colored scales, giving a tinge of green to the area around them.
Eriel sat on Emrhyst's back, she looked somewhat different than before. Set within her eyes was strength, between her brows was knowledge. Her voice enriched with power, her hands imbued with skill. She was strong enough to hold her own against the strongest of shades and some dragons, her magic and archery both far surpassed that of any elf, human and dwarf, her sword was quick, nimble and agile, no longer the old stiffness it once was. She was able to suppress her dark side easily now because she guarded all her skills from her, although the elf had always managed to steal bits of knowledge here and there, she never could get to the throne of her host's power before being forced back by wards and barriers.
The elf watched her very old friend with a smile emanating amusement and sadness.

Re: End of a Legacy
OOC: Yay you're back! That means we can reveal the newest chapter in Keralin and Eriel's life. Till then, have some Aeraldi action.
Aeraldi felt the wear of the ages fall upon him, even though he had only been awake for a few hundred years his body was on the verge of shattering into the nether. Although neither side could figure out how to merge their personalities into one permanantly they still gained time when they joined temporarily. The past few days had been the worst for him as the signs of his end were becoming noticeable. Whenever he was wounded the flesh bled magic as well as blood and changing forms was becoming difficult. Aeraldi, that morning, felt the call of something else in the world. Something that could very well change his life for eternity, although whether it was good or bad he could not tell. He accompanied the great dragon with little distraction as his other side was awfullly quiet these past few years and every time he asked he got pushed aside. Faefnir, how can you regenerate in your sleep like that? Aeraldi asked, hoping that he might use the same methods to preserve his own life.

OOC: I know I wasn't end in the prequel, but do you mind if I join?
IC: Equinox landed exhausted after the past few years many fights with Crimson and the deranged dragon Frazer. His leg hurt more than ever and it wasn't because his insane rider was near. Even though his skills at fighting and many other things had improved thanks to his master the fights with Frazer and Crimson tired him. He though of Quasar, Eris, Throat Ripper his first true friends it was for that reason Crimson perused them also. Even his good legs were stiffened and he was incredibly young for a dragon. He looked down his green scales many scares that mainly were made by Crimson and Frazer were there. How can Crimson manage so much... In the distance Equinox saw some flying dragons two of which he recognized. He flew over to greet them. He flew toward them and saw his master and Emrhyst.

Re: End of a Legacy
OOC: Heavens no, Eriel. This is just going to establish an end to his "reign," but remember there are still 10 years behind him to do what he wants. I'll wait for a few more people to join (a.k.a. Star gazer. lol) before I post again.

Re: End of a Legacy
OOC: I'd like to bring in both of my charries, if you all don't mind. Of course Phal is coming, but I'd like to get Solarae more involved.
Oh, and, as for the new power I'm introducing for Phal here; the first hints of it started in Introductions and Old Friends, and its a lot more complicated than it sounds, there are a lot of rules and stuff. I won't bore you with the details (lol) but I'm making sure not to god-mod/powerplay with it, so don't worry.
IC: Phalynx was flying for a sole purpose. She had known for a while now that her half-brother was beginning to feel the wear and tear of his immense age, and she was now determined to join him on his quest.
Phalynx, too, was a changed dragon. She was now, though still extroardinarily young, (especially considering her brother's age) a fully-grown, adult dragon. And the constant use of her powers had taken a very strange turn. Her ability to see things had escalated, and she could now see into the minds of others. However, Phal understood the boundaries of others well, and only used this newfound ability in emergencies. Phal's bright green eyes also now contained a permanent illumination, though it was faint and could only really be seen in the dark.
Greetings, brother. I see you and my niece are well, Phal said, approaching the pair from above, And it's good to see that you're all alright, Phal said into the minds of Emrhyst, Eriel, Aeraldi, and Equinox. I know you've been a little "under the weather" lately, Faefnir, so I'm coming with you on this quest. Phal smiled at the large golden dragon, her fluid silver form coming in next to him. And I hear you have a mate now, Navarre. How are things going for you? she asked her niece, who was but a few weeks younger than her.
Solarae had been flying in the sun. She glanced towards the west, and saw in the distance a group of approaching dragons. She immediately recognized Faefnir and Aeraldi (and maybe some others), and flew lazily towards them, curious about their purpose.
I haven't seen a group of dragons this large in quite some time, she said to all of them, smiling, Now I know that you all must be up to something important. And I'm sure you won't mind if I join you.
The small fire-colored dragon grinned as she, too, joined the airborne group. She was eager to know just what kind of adventure these dragons (and rider) were up to. Now then, anyone going to tell me what we're doing? Solarae said cheerfully. She looked at the huge golden dragon and the small white one in concern, noticing their aged appearances. You two alright? she asked them both quietly.

Re: End of a Legacy
OOC: Have no fear I am here! But ILS instead of writing out the mating flight this time I would rather just say it happened, because-don't laught-It kind of made me uncomfortable and not happy we wrote it out so this time just say it happened. Sorry. It's just as a Christian it makes me feel bad.
IC: Star Gazer flew to her mate, sadness in her eyes, unlike him she was as young as ever, as strong or even stronger than she had been, and it tore her heart open to see Faefnir so.
He was her world and without him she didn't know if she would last, she she had decided without telling Faefnir that she would sleep in the trance with him.
She hadn't gotten up the courage to tell him just yet, because she knew how he would react.
He would want her to stay in the world and protect it, but she just couldn't last without him anymore than he could without her.
Reb stood on the ground below her dragon, standing still and sighing with sadness. She knw what Star Gazer planned and she would miss her dearly.
Terranor flew up with his mate. He knew his father needed him and he came to his aide.
Star Gazer lent Faefnir some of her strength, that long ago would him enormous ammounts of strength. " Hello my love." Star Gazer said as she floated underneath one of his wings.

Re: End of a Legacy
OOC: Hey, it's no problem. I'm non-denominational Christian, so I understand how you feel. We'll completely edit out that scene this time.
Faefnir smiled as his old friends joined he and Navarre in the sky. As he took careful roll of his companions, and found they were all there, he looked down and found a nice place to camp for the swiftly arriving night. Land here, my friends. We'll camp here. Faefnir angled downward and landed smoothly on the yellow plain grass, then turned toward his companions and awaited their landing. After they had all landed, he settled down in a spot next to Star gazer and made a small fire, his sides trembling with the effort. It even took him a great deal of energy to breath fire anymore.
Navarre landed first, almost simultaneously with her father. Knowing he would eventually want to make a fire, she cleared away some brush in a small circle, then settled down next to a rock pillar.

Re: End of a Legacy
Emrhyst landed in the clearing effortlessly, her claws digging into the ground simultaneously, bringing the dragoness to a complete and abrupt stop. Emrhyst threw back her head for a second, her eyes piercing the sky for a second before it came back down to rest on Faefnir. Eriel quickly dismounted, taking off the saddle and placing it under a tree. Wordlessly she shut her eyes, hands stretched out in front of her and the trees around them grew thicker, it's emergent sheltering everyone under it. The elf finished it off by blowing a gust of wind from her right palm, smiling as neither trunk nor branch gave way. "I suppose this is enough covering for the night?" Eriel asked the group, her body expressionless as she took notice of another being above them. Emrhyst's head shot up at the same time Eriel noticed the dragon. So strong was their bond now. The dragoness frowned, digging her claws into the ground instinctively.

Re: End of a Legacy
Star Gazer knew what energy he expended, so without a word she kept the fire blazing so he wouldn't have to. " How are you Faefnir?"Star Gazer asked through their private mind link.
"I've missed you and I am sorry it took me so long to get here. I had to help at the mountain or else nothing could have taken me from you. Moon was laying her eggs. They are green and bronz." Star Gazer added.
Terranor looked down and caught Emhyrst staring at him so he decided it was time to land, so he landed beside his father, and his mate followed suit. " Hello everyone." Terranor rumbled in his deep voice.

OOC: So, are we not having an order?
IC: Equinox landed and curled up on the ground. He laid his head on top of his maimed foot. He lifted his head up and stared at his foot it didn't hurt at all which relieved him. He was glad to have some rest. He looked at the fire. Faefnir had trained him well and Equinox was grateful for that.

Re: End of a Legacy
OOC: There is an order but I'll let you all go before me. I hate making things confused. So the Order is now I-L-S -> RiderEriel -> Star Gazer -> dark dragon -> me -> dracoaestas
Thank you Eriel. Aeraldi said gratefully as he landed on the ground. He knew he should be on guard and alert but for some reason he was at peace. When Emrhyst and Eriel prepared for an attack Aeraldi didn't even flinch. Are you that adamant on death that you have lost the will to live? I don't know anymore. My limbs are tired and my eyes heavy, yet when I lie down to rest it is when I am most awake. Aeraldi wanted to cry but could not. I want to sleep, but I cannot close my eyes. I know. I feel it too. This is why I fight, this is why I kill. It makes me feel awake, I feel alive. You survive on helping others, on taking away their pain and making it your own. Yet for all the pain in the land, you cannot take it away. I would help Faefnir, but he knows how to be rid of his pain. Maybe for once I need to take away my own. Aeraldi thought on this as the others spoke.

Re: End of a Legacy
Phalynx watched as the others landed on the plains below. Faefnir and Star Gazer built the fire and Eriel provided sheltering trees. Before coming down herself, Phal used infrared and magic vision to survey their surroundings. She scanned the area carefully. Dark creatures would almost certainly be attracted to the presense of so many dragons. Phal continued circling and scanning, a little reluctant to land. She was still full of young energy and vigor, and wasn't quite ready to sleep. She suddenly noticed the heat of a herd of antelope to the north.
You guys rest. I'm going to go catch some dinner for us. Who's hungry? she asked, wondering how many she would need to catch.
Solarae took up a spot near the fire. She crouched down to stare into the burning depths. She would have created the fire herself, as that was her specialty, but thought it impolite to the royal pair, who were taking care of that on their own. She sat up and looked at the trees growing up around them. Those should work nicely, Eriel, she said slightly absentmindedly. She looked up to see the young silver dragon continue to circle above them. Hey, I'd like something, if it's not too much trouble, she said to Phal. She knew Phalynx was restless, so she didn't insist to catch her own dinner.

OOC Mind if I join? Like Dark, I wasnt in the other one but I thought this looked a little interesting.
IC
Philo coiled her talons in the soil. She had been on the eastern land, a haven to her. She wanted to follow Faefnir's group and now she had. She had betrayed the Grim. What would he think? What would he do? She quivered as she recoiled into the deepest shadows of the horde of dragons. Her mind was hazy and confused. Perhaps she was escaping the Grim's cinch? Maybe. . . ? No that was impossible. She wrapped her tail around herself in a grave mode. Yet somehow, she felt in a sector of her stomach that being here was right. All she needed was a little more proof. . .

Re: End of a Legacy
Emrhyst let out grinned at her sister ( We really should make a family tree for this...) I'm starving, and I'm definitely coming with you. She smiled and walked over to Phal and counted the number of dragons who wanted dinner. We might as well catch the whole herd... Emrhyst smiled, wondering how much of an appetite Solarae had.
Eriel stiffened slightly, the only sign of it being a slight movement of her cloak. I'll be scouting the area. She said softly and leaped off in the direction of the noise, eyes darting from side to side.

Re: End of a Legacy
Aeraldi landed softly and enjoyed the scenery, the green trees he could see as well as the grass that bent beneath his paws. He could for once finally saw he felt at peace, that he could sit here and watch the sun rise and fall. A knot of tension he didn't know he had been holding unravelled in his stomach. Is this is what peace means? He wondered silently. Shame you won't be able to enjoy it for too much longer. Aeraldi said almost maliciously. Your time is up. Aeraldi sighed and realised what the tension he was holding was for, it was for keeping his other side's thoughts out. Excuse me for a moment. He said as he walked over to a secluded place where he would not harm another being. Alright, now. The pain of centuries past returned to his limbs as his other side forced his way to the surface. Aeraldi bowed lightly in agony and tried to accept the fact. It didn't stop the pain. It became too luch and he roared in pain and started to thrash, his claws demolishing anything in their path. His fangs grew longer while his claws gained a fearsome appearance. His scales ran with black and soon became completely encased. His body shuddered with pain again and then it finally stopped. Aeraldi breathed the new air and stretched. He was glad to be able to control the body once again, not to mention that it was soon time to eat. He walked back and said I'll come to eat as well, but I will get first pick of what I kill and later, I will fight with one of you. With that Aeraldi took off and started his search for food.

Re: End of a Legacy
Phal nodded to the others and smiled as she heard everyone's request. She was eager to get underway. Phal rolled her eyes when she heard Aeraldi's demands. She knew his dark side could be demanding and violent, though he was a good dragon at heart, though she wondered who he would challenge. Aeraldi, though small, was swift, experienced, and ferocious in his dark form. No dragon he faced would come out unscathed.
Phal flipped around in the air a little. I think that's everyone, Emrhyst. Let's go, she said happily. Phal darted off into the night, looking for all the world like a shooting star. She went immediately to the herd of grazing antelope she had spotted and hovered above them. She made her scales glow magically and then narrowed the light coming off them to a narrow point, disguising herself as a star. The herd wouldn't know what hit it.
Phal picked out the perfect place to attack. In one swift move, she expanded the light and breathed a gust of silver fire, blinding the animals with silvery light. She used their confusion to attack in the center of the herd. Two of the small antelopes fell under her claws, another in her jaws, and she blasted two more with her flame. The injured animals couldn't escape, and she killed them quickly to prevent their suffering. The rest of the small herd was now on the run, and Phal caught one more in flight before leaving the rest to Emrhyst. She quickly gathered up her catch of six and started flying them back to the group.
Solarae found the night somewhat dull. She entertained herself by letting out small balls of orange flame, which she bounced around on her talons and tail. She was interested when Aeraldi declared his intentions to have a fight later on. Maybe I could try out my skills on him, sometime. He'd probably beat me, what with the several thousand years of more experience and the thirst for blood that dark side of his has, but it could be an interesting challenge to see how long I last, Solarae thought. She was quite a good fighter for a 400-600 year old dragoness that was half the size of a human. She had gotten into many fights back in the far-east, and had come off the better, even against adversaries several times her size and prowess. Solarae smiled. The fiery orange dragon enjoyed a good scuffle now and then. She liked action in her life.
Solarae glanced over at the dark green dragon, Equinox, who was laying near the fire by himself. So, Equinox, I hear you're Faefnir's apprentice. How's that going? she asked, hoping to start a conversation until dinner arrived.

Re: End of a Legacy
OOC: I'll join up if you guys dont mind. (Lot of people now it seems..) I know I wasnt in the prequel either but I will probably make things a little "interesting" with my dragon. I hope I dont mess up the order....and if you feel there is too many or I shouldnt paretake, please tell me I will delete this and take no offence.
IC:
Bahamut was flying north-west out of the Hadarac from his prison. 50,000 years.... not much has changed. The scenery changed very quickly, very few stood up to his speed because of his immense size. He wanted to look for some food...real food. There was hardly anything in the desert. After a while he reached a very large plain of trees and grass. He began rampaging through it looking for anything to eat. After a while and eating of 19 deer, Bahamut began looking for a place to rest. He may have slept through most of his imprisonment but breaking out of his seal and hunting took more out of him than he realized.
Bahamut stopped for a moment he sensed some one in the area. Since he technically didnt have home, he decided to make this territory. He flew in the direction of the thing he sensed. It was two dragons who seemed to be hunting. He landed a short distance from them with a large thud. He inhaled and roared. He towered over them, growling, despite being tired he was slightly itching for a fight.

Re: End of a Legacy
Even though ILS hasn't gone yet, I will deviate and go. sorry.
IC: Star Gazer's head shot up at the roar and she shot into the air, searching for her sister-in-law and Emhyrst. She felt they were in danger and she had the urge to protect the younger dragons, and she had to get away from Faefnir before she cracked and told him what she planned.
A couple of miles from the camp she found them hunting and what she saw caused her a moment of pause. Bahamut was glaring down at them, threatening them in a domineering way she didn't at all like.
She stalked forwards and roared so loud the ground shook underneath their feet and then challenged him, itching to get her frustration out. "Either come in peace or get lost Bahamut." Star Gazer snarled into the night air coming between him and the other dragons.

Re: End of a Legacy
Faefnir saw Bahamut on the horizon and remembered the uneasy, but successful, relationship they were sharing. He quickly joined his mate in the sky and put his hand on her chest to ease her anger. Don't worry, Star. I can deal with him. Faefnir flew toward the old dragon, his other brother from the Ancient World, and stopped his charge. Wait! They are with me, brother. Don't hurt them.

Re: End of a Legacy
Emrhyst gulped as a very huge dragon landed in front of her and Phal, taking the role of a physically older dragon, she stepped in front of her sister in law, raising her tail in offense, and growled. "Back off Bahamut..." She winced as he slammed his tail on the ground.

IC: Equinox looked at Solarae, Well, its going good, I'm learning a lot from Master Faefnir, though I know I'll never be as skilled as him. Equinox saw an unframiler dragon come in. It looked threatining and he stoof up ready to shoot lightning.

Re: End of a Legacy
OOC: Mind if I join?
IC: The gust was very strong. Emerald never expected it to be so strong. Yet instead of flying higher, he kept on moving. This might prove to be a good training session for me... He thought. After so many years, he was finally leaving Southern Alagaesia. He would soon meet the others. He slightly straightened in the air, so that more air could push him backwards. Now it was getting challenging. Emerald was enjoying himself greatly but he was very eager to reach the northern edges of Alagaesia. He turned around, and flipped his wings. With two powerful strokes, he was above the turbulant wind. He changed his direction. He roared, happily, warning all the lesser beings of his presence. Soon he was in the Hadarac desert. The heat... The heat seemed to open up a hidden part of Emerald. It gave him energy. Instinct told him to find and fight another dragon. But he knew that making a bad reputation so quickly would only bring him trouble. He channeled all his excitement and energy into flying. Soon he was lost, somewhere in the middle of the Hadarac desert. It was getting dark, and Emerald was hungry. I need food... Emerald spread his wings and without exerting any force slowly glided down. But jsut before he could land, he saw another dragon nearby. It wasn't alone. There were more. Instinct drove Emerald towards them. He roared loudly, revealing his presence.
OOC: Sorry, this is kinda new to me, so if I make any mistakes, please point them out. Thank you lol.

Re: End of a Legacy
Aeraldi felt the ages on him, since having remembered his past he has been feeling particularly old. Yet for some reason he could never bring himself to the so called 'maturity' the others keep complaining about. He scanned the forest below him with near contempt, for some reason this particular forest had put him into a foul mood. Ugh, I can't search for food here. It's just too repulsive. He thought turning around and heading towards the rest. He sighed and turned around again. I can't even bear to look at their faces again for a while. He looked down at the ground again hoping to find something on the ground to interest him. Finding nothing he though the might lie on the trees to pass a little time before returning. What's so bad about this forest? Aeraldi asked. Nothing, everything. I don't know but I just can't be bothered to do anything right now. Seems to me that you're becoming just like me on this. That's almost motivation enough for me to move. He said with disgust. Expectancy came from Aeraldi. Almost. He said.

Re: End of a Legacy
Phalynx stood silent as Bahamut landed in front of her and Emrhyst. Star Gazer and Faefnir soon showed up, as Phal had expected. Bahamut really doesn't have the greatest manners, does he, she thought with amusement. I'll take my catch back to the others, Phal said to Emrhyst. She picked up the antelopes in her talons and teeth and took off from the ground in two mighty flaps.
Phal sped back to the group, wondering what was going on. She could see already that it was larger than when she had left. She realized who the new arrivals were as soon as she got there. Sid, Emerald. Welcome! she said in a friendly voice, her eyes bright. I've brought my share of the catch for everyone. Emrhyst should soon be along with hers, and then we'll have plenty for everybody, she announced, laying the antelopes down. She looked at Emerald and Sid. Would either of you like something to eat? she asked.
Solarae nodded. Faefnir is a very ancient dragon, Equinox. We would need to live as long as him to even come close to his power, and that's not counting his own special abilities. I've heard you have a few of your own, though. Lightning breath sounds like fun, she said to the green dragon. She stood up when the two new arrivals joined them. Hey, strangers, she said cheerfully, just as Phalynx landed with the antelopes. Ah, now we're talking! Solarae said to no one in particular and helped herself to a plump item of prey.

Re: End of a Legacy
OOC: Actually, it's Daidrea's turn. Eriel goes after ILS. I believe the order is Draco, Daidrea, Star, ILS, Eriel, Dark Dragon, Aeraldi. (Sid is no longer active, and Silver is no longer active in the rp section.)

OOC:Whoops, sorry. Just was looking the post order so I wasnt sure. Couldve sworn it was Eriel. (Has she even been on recently?)
Bahamut relaxed slightly, but he still wasnt to welcoming. He was rather hoping to make this his home...but it seems it is already occupied. Normally he would fight for it, but since he knew was out numbered and he did decide to side with Faefnir, he had little choice. Not sure what to do, he stood tall and crossed his arms. He let his wings hang out, they were slightly tired from the trip in from the desert. He decided to wait for Faefnir to approach.

Re: End of a Legacy
Star Gazer watched Faefnir, still worried for him. Her mate was not the strong force he had once been. She then turned her attention to Bahamut. " I do not apreciate the threat to my family, I protect my own." Star Gazer snarled, her fangs glowing white in the gathering darkness. She was so on edge, that any insult would set her off. OOC: Pass sorry it took me so long to post.

Re: End of a Legacy
Faefnir extended his over wing over Star gazer's chest. Peace, my mate. Bahamut is an eccentric dragon, but he is good at heart. Please, brother. Join us for some dinner. We were about to eat our catch. He placed a wing on Star's back, then smiled at her. Come, love. Let's eat and forget this foul situation.
