Murtagh had only two choices: join Galbatorix or die. Sloan had more than two: 1] Give Roran a chance for his daughter's benefit. 2] Continue to help the villager’s to fight the Empire 3] Place aside his dislike for Roran and not force Katrina to choose 4] Simply not accept the union and continue as if he had not known they were in love He practically lost everything for not using his brains. He lost the villager’s respect and sympathy when he killed Byrd. He gave his daughter to the Ra’zac. He lost his daughter’s respect with his treason. And now he, himself has been imprisoned by the Ra’zac with no sympathy or regard for him, since Sloan’s plan to capture Roran failed. Some situation he’s in. I think he is just to cunning and would do anything to save his own skin n katrinas. I think that one problem is even though we all want him dead would roran or eragon kill sloan if katrina begs them not to, none of them want to her hurt anymore. Eragon does not really enjoy the killing now that he can feel it with his enhanced power and skill.
