Ezara
Name: Ezara (Zara for short)
Age: 23
Gender: Female
Skills: Various crafting skills- Like all monks at the monastery, Ezara possesses many crafting skills. She has excellent blacksmithing skills, carpentry skills, and she can make her own clothes. The monks at the monastery believe that every item they own, unless given to them as a gift, must be made themselves. Everything that Ezara owns is something she made using her various skills.
Combat- Ezara is very well trained in various forms of combat. She is trained to use pretty much whatever she has at her disposal but she is especially deadly with her twin katanas. She can fight with just one sword or two. She is also a talented knife fighter. Zara knows where pressure points in the body are and she knows how to exploit those. She is not very good with a bow though.
Race: Human
Hair: Dark brown.
Eyes: brown
Home Village: A small town in Danthuania that no longer exists
Parents: She doesn’t remember their names.
Siblings: None
Character Personality: Ezara has always been a clever and resourceful girl. She used to be a bit of a bully, tricking and exploiting other children in the village. Growing up in a poor village under Lethira’s harsh rule, she had a rough childhood. Her experiences left her bitter and irritable. After the massacre at her village, Zara wondered alone in the wilderness until Darin, a traveling monk from the mountains, found her and took her in. Zara developed a love of fighting, particularly sword and knife combat. Darin taught her the ways of the monks and he is one of the few people she truly respects. After he died, Zara would spend great deals of time in solitude, wondering the valley below the monastery for up to a week at a time. She enjoys the serenity that nature offers and it is during these times that she truly feels at peace. Ezara hates the Vanquishers for what they did to her people. She feels ashamed of how she exploited others as a child and likewise hates anyone who behaves in such a way. She has killed both without hesitation and fears that she may be going down a dark path. Zara longs for a new mentor of a friend who she can turn to for help. Because of her violent tendencies, she feels that she does not belong at the peaceful monastery and instead, should venture out into the world to fight for justice. She has secretly admired the gryphons that now call the monastery their home. She has avoided them though, especially since the hatchlings were born. She does not wish to go near them and incur the wrath of angry gryphon parents. She has considered trying to befriend them but is unsure of how to go about doing it. Zara feels ashamed of this because she considers herself to be a very brave person. There is little else she is afraid of and she feels that her fear of the gryphons is somehow unjustified. Ezara enjoys making things. It is a custom of the monks of Danthuania to be completely self reliant. Zara grows her own food in the garden and hunts for her own meat.
Character History: Ezara was born in a small farming village, though she does not remember the name of it. Her family was very poor and every day was a struggle. Zara would trick and exploit other children in the village into stealing food and other valuables for her. Though she did it to help her family rather than out of greed, she would later regret her actions. When Zara was ten years old, Lethira’s Vanquishers attacked the village, killing almost everyone including Zara’s parents and taking the survivors as slaves. Zara escaped into the woods and managed to avoid being caught, but she was now alone in the world. She wondered in the wilderness for two weeks until an elderly monk named Darin found her and took her back to his monastery. Darin decided to adopt the orphaned girl and teach her the ways of his people. For the next ten years, Darin taught Ezara many crafting and survival skills, how to fight, and how to be a diplomat. During that time Zara became close to Darin and thought of him as a father. Shortly after she finished her apprenticeship, however, tragedy struck. Darin, who had been in declining health for several years, finally passed away, leaving Zara with no one again. Though she lived at the monastery, she was not close to any of the other monks. Natagath, a Dragon Rider from across the sea, and his lightning dragon, Violeta, had taken refuge in the monastery. Zara assisted Natagath as he adjusted to life at the monastery. However, she never really became close to him or Violeta. Then the gryphons came. Zara was curious about these odd creatures but she kept her distance from them, especially when their hatchlings were born. Though they do not seem hostile, she is afraid to approach them because of their fierce appearance. Zara has tried to work up the courage to speak to them but those piercing eyes of theirs dissuaded her every time.
Weapons: Twin katanas- Ezara wields a pair of twin katanas. She made both of them herself. Each blade is 30 inches in length. The hilts are wrapped in leather for a firm and comfortable. The katanas are made of a very high quality steel and are almost unbreakable. These are Zara’s primary weapon. Zara usually wears them in sheaths across her back.
Survival Knife- Zara always carries a knife with her. Like her swords, it was made by her. The knife has a six inch blade and a five inch hilt. The knife is made of folded steel and is perfectly balanced, making it ideal for throwing and cutting or stabbing.
Throwing Stars- Zara makes throwing stars to use when her throwing knife is simply not enough. Each star is diamond shaped with four razor sharp points Zara usually carries six at a time in a leather pouch on her belt.
Short Bow: Zara usually carries a short bow with her. It is made of strong, exotic wood that she harvested from the tropical forest outside the valley along with a quiver of arrows.
Smoke pellets- Zara was taught by Darin to make smoke pellets for distracting enemies in a tight spot. The pellets are small clay balls that contain two different chemicals. The balls are thrown onto the ground and shatter, causing the chemicals to mix. The resulting reaction creates a thick cloud of bile-green foul-smelling smoke. In addition to concealing one's location, the foul odor produced by the smoke also nullifies any creatures sense of smell for a short time.
Other Equipment:
Waterskin- Whenever Zara leaves the monastery, she carries a waterskin which comes in handy in Danthuania’s hot environment.
Magnetic compass- Zara always carries a compass in her backpack. It was given to her as a gift by Darin. The compass is made of brass with a glass cover over the needle.
Spyglass- Zara keeps a small spyglass of her own design in her backpack. It folds like a telescope and is made of brass with glass senses inside for magnifying objects at a distance.
Likes: Fighting, solitude, traveling to new places, fighting evil
Dislikes: criminals, the Vanquishers, injustice
Weakness / Fear: Zara is not very good with her bow. She can hit targets that are about twenty yards away but that is it. Zara fears things she does not fully understand, such as the gryphons that now live at the monastery.
Animal Companions: None. At least not yet.
Character's Physical Description: Ezara stands about five and a half feet tall. She has dark brown shoulder length hair which is usually tied back in two ponytails. She has brown eyes. Ezara has several sets of clothing that she wears. She usually dresses in plain grey pants and a grey short sleeved shirt. She also has a white ceremonial robe for special occasions. Zara’s belt has several pouches and pockets for storing items. One pouch contains her throwing stars. Another contains a set of healing herbs. She wears her swords across her back and her knife is usually strapped to a sheath on her right thigh for easy access. Zara also carries a backpack that holds her other items. He backpack is designed to fit over the sheaths of her swords so she can wear it and still carry her weapons.
Dreams for the Future: To find her place in the world and to fight for justice.
Reason for Dreams: She feels like an outcast and hates injustice.
Alignment/side: The side of justice.
