Du Erundalmaka
Ok, this is my book 4 of Inheritance. Most of it's already been written, and I'm already planning a book 5! So I should be able to update it regularly enough
Enjoy!
Inheritance Book IV: Du Erundamalka
Prologue:
Tenga sat in his study pondering his question. It had been nagging his mind greatly for the past fifty years. Though it was night he could not sleep. He wanted fame all right; however he knew the risks involved were great. His pupil, that pompous woman who had begged him for answers to her ever growing number of questions, had gained fame; but he knew that his root was much more dangerous. He knew that no-one should know that word, much less use it. It was a knowledge that could ruin the very existence of the four races. But even now he knew his age: he should have died centuries ago; yet he chose not too. He couldn’t stave off death much longer; he made up his mind and mounted to the top of the tower and, taking a deep breath, spoke: Erundamalka, the true name of the Ancient Language.
In Uruba’en, Galbatorix felt the change. He woke and grasped his sword; someone had found the most important name of all before him!
Murtagh too found no sleep with the surge of magic permeating the air. Yet for him there was hope, Maybe Eragon found it, and may use it to free me, he said to Thorn. We must always hope, replied Thorn, though not so hopefully.
Eragon, just as every magic user around the world could not sleep. It was the same for the elves, the dwarves and the humans. Who did it? he wondered. And more importantly, What side are they on?
Chapter One: Search for the Hermit
Nasuada, Eragon, Arya, Blodhgharm, the elven spell weavers and the Du Vrangr Gata met in Nasuada’s tent. Trianna was speaking, ‘’The most important thing we must do now is locate the source of the surge. Whatever it was, it was an immensely powerful spell. The Du Vrangr Gata, in all it’s experience has never dealt with a spell, or word of power of this force.’’ Angela spoke with a sternness that Eragon had never seen before, ‘’The Du Vrangr Gata’s experience? Hah! The Du Vrangr Gata’s incompetence is revealed in it’s very name: ‘’Du Vrangr Gata’’ should be ‘’Du Gata Vrangr’’. None of you has ever had magical training. How about we hear Eragon, the elven spell weavers or Arya’s opinion? They at least have some credible training.
Nasuada’s reply was simply to look in Eragon, the elves and Arya’s way. Eragon glanced at Arya, who just motioned at him to speak.
‘’I have learned a good deal more than an average spell user, however I must say that in my training I neve met a spell as powerful as that. By this I mean, one that affected all of the magic around me. I cannot guess the source, however I must tell you that it is my professional opinion that this spell is so powerful that we must neither learn it, nor let the enemy have it. It is the true name of the Ancient Language.
If we learn this spell, we will have so much power that we could essentially cut of Galbatorix’s access to magic, free Murtagh or any other rider that Galbatorix might have. However once we learn this spell we must swear never to reveal it to anyone, ever. If the enemy were to learn it, it would cause much harm to us. Galbatorix might use it to prevent our spell weavers from using magic, or me from using magic. We would very easily be crushed. Arya, Blodhgharm?’’
‘’I have very little to add to this matter,’’ said Arya, ‘’The elves and I must put our heads together and find the source of this magic, and when we do, we must send Eragon and Saphira along with an elf to find the person with this knowledge. There has never been an operation of such importance since the recovery Saphira’s egg.’’ Blodhgharm nodded his head in agreement.
‘’Well then,’’ finished Nasuada, ‘’I am no magical person, so seeing as you all know your roles pinpoint the source of this disturbance, and report back to me with your findings. We will then find a way to bring this person to the Varden. If it is Galbatorix, then we shall have to kill him before he can use his knowledge. You are dismissed.’’ **** ‘’A word with you Eragon,’’ said Angela as they left Nasuada’s tent, ‘’you too Arya.’’ Angela led them to her tent which as always had a number of unusual things in front of it. ‘’Eragon,’’ she addressed him, ‘’Do you remember that insane hermit Tenga?’’ He knew what was coming next, ‘’Aye,’’ he replied. ‘’It was him,’’ she said. ‘’If I know that mad hermit as well as I think I do, he probably spent half a century contemplating if he should use the word! I got a hint that he was on to something fairly important the last time I was with him!’’
‘’This is all very fine,’’ Arya said, ‘’but how do you know?’’ ‘’I can recognise Tenga’s spellwork a mile away,’’ she shrugged. What you elves ignore, in your quest for knowledge, is the fact that each user has his or her own signature. You know about magic colour, but, and this is something else Tenga explored, every single user has his own signature hum which you can hear, if you listen carefully, over massive distances. I learned Tenga’s a long time ago, and I recognized it last night.
‘’Why did you not tell Nasuada in the tent?’’ asked Eragon. ‘’I did not want that good for nothing Du Vrangr Gata to know,’’ she replied. ‘’Trianna, while not treasonous, is getting a little too political for my liking. I don’t want her to know. Tell Nasuada at once.’’
