It's been almost a year to the date that we had reached 300000 and now we have gone up to 400000

To put that in perspective with some other statistics that we keep (which are not public) that 100,000 posts equal:

Visitors from 149 countries

That's about 228GB of data transfer from our server which is enough to fill:

158,000 floppies

For the past months I have been really busy with university and this is why I have been unable to post. Even now I have 4 major final exams coming up and one massive group project, but I need to take a break once in a while if I don't want to go nuts .

We only keep statistics on certain things.

That's an unofficial result, depending on how good my math is. There's a disparity between numbers because the information gathered in the link counts deleted posts, where the counter on the bottom does not.

Haha, I'm celebrating 40,000 posts on my forum which opened at the end of February and SF is celebrating a whopping 400,000!

lucky. Anyway, 40,000 is a very impressive number, and maybe we'll set a world record. What's the world record for the most number of posts on a forum ever? Or so far?

The Runescape forums are #1 or #2 in size/activity I think. (read that somewhere ) But otherwise, not sure. We're only the second largest English Inheritance fansite, so... xD

So whats the first eragon fansite? I'm curious.

My buddy told me about a site called Utherverse. Some adult 3-d game universe that has like almost 300000 forum members and 700000 posts. I dont want to know why he knows this...since I repeat it is an "adult" site. Creepy yes but still impressive.
Course 90% is probably guys...

I think you can go to a topic somewhere and find out, but I'm not sure. I do know that the highest color dragon you can get is blue like Saphira.

The reason the others have so many more posts DS, is that people like you and me really only post in the RPG section.

Everyone else can post every couple of minutes in like say "Come here when you are bored" or something like that. RPs can take hours or even days to reply to.

Heck even after I became an RPG mod, my post count has still been slow xD

Sorry, I have to correct you there. The administration on IF has changed considerably since you were there last. The old admin, Yoli had this idea that members were inferior. Now with the Arthryn administration, that philosophy has totally changed. The moderators ''hang around'' a lot more with members now. Also, they do have an RPG section, and have had one for years.

Well, I guess it's natural in a way. On IF we complain about how SF is infested with 1337 and chatspeak. On SF you guys say how bad IF was back in 2006. Rivalry, grr!

Well you know what they say, there's no such thing as bad publicity!

But yeah, you're correct in your statement. They've changed in their views over the years, as have we. People left, people themselves changed, and folks grew up on both sides.

And we have still have some difference in philosophies of course, but that's to be expected. That's why we're here, and y'all are there. But yeah, we're in it for the same reasons.

Well at least on IF, moderators don't perpetuate rumors about how creepy and weird SF is...

Last time I tried to generate more of a relationship between Shurty stuff (IF and our Inheritance wiki) and SF, I never got a reply back. All I wanted was to involve the SF community in the creation of a comprehensive wiki article.

It's still really empty.

But really, IF is just a bigger, faster forum that runs very differently. We deal with a massive influx of noobs from Shurtugal and have more people and more things going on, so we make policies accordingly. We've had different experiences than you, so different customs and cultures have evolved. I realize that IF was an awful place around 2006, so I totally understand residual impressions, but we're aware of how much it used to be not good so we're always working on making it better. If you have suggestions on how to make it appear less foreboding and creepy to you, I'd absolutely love to hear them.

Anyhow, congrats on the 400,000 posts! Actually, a big thing you have on IF is a much better posts per member rate, which signifies a close-knit, solid community.

Well on account of the Wiki, I'm not sure what you did but I never saw anything about it and if you had contacted Louis about it well... give him a few months to read it and a couple years to reply to anything not sent by a team member (Idk about the team member part really lol)

though if you're looking for someone to write you a Wiki page I'm sure we could pull something together

I'm sure IF people have had some misguided opinions about us as well.
We've changed as well; for example people have mentioned about the 1337 speak and spam posts in general. It does still goes on (myself included ) at times, but it's gotten significantly less prevalent over the years. And we do have reasonable and intelligent discussions from time to time.


That's one of the things born of our creation here that we're rather proud of. :] Thank you.

Well I can't speak for the admins, but it could be because they have been quite busy with school and real life recently. You know how university can be.

Anyway, the point I want to make is that there is no 'right' way to create fansite. We each have our strengths in the way we do things... and I think it's kind of silly to hold misconceptions about each other.

Ohhh maybe this is my problem. According to when I created this account, I contacted him in July.. so I guess it hasn't been a few years yet.

Anyhow, I was hoping to get all you members involved, but I wasn't sure if it would be appropriate for me to join and get everyone to work on our Wiki, so I went through the admins. Well, the link to the article is in my previous post, so feel free to add to it.


Well I think a lot of the difference comes from our harder approach on English usage. It's done wonders for improving the perception of our content, and for letting everyone be understood. So when we see a forum with looser requirements, I guess it appears more chatpseaky. (Secret: All we care about is spelling out words fully and some effort in using capitalization and punctuation, we just target those who rite leik dis.)

My only peeve with this site was the epileptic signatures. Lots of flashy blinky stuff, color, glitter text, dragon eggs, music files, etc. But I'm seeing slightly less of that than I used to. We banned most of that stuff after the glitter thing in someone's sig put malicious code on the forums.


Hmm, PM me the IF username of the friend and I can look her up and give you an explanation. If someone on IF asks me privately why something happened, I don't mind giving an answer. That's my general policy.

Aww don't worry about it. And if you're unsure about making a post, you can always contact a staff member. Also, warns for typical noob mistakes don't count against you long term. Just read the rules and you won't have problems. Most warns come from people not reading the rules.

And don't worry about your past presence. I've been around long enough to have seen plenty of members go from bratty noobs to excellent, mature contributors. Happens a lot, so no one is going to hold your past against you.

I actually find this topic very intriguing. Its always good to hear both sides of a misguided now non-existent crisis.

I think the Wikipedia help idea would be great. The only thing I have become a stickler about is giving proper credit to all those involved. I guess that hesitation comes from being a fiction young adult genre writer.

Personally I wouldn't mind passing members back and forth and being affiliates. Everyone fits in somewhere different. IF might be a great place or maybe SF seamed to fit better for that individual. it really doesn't matter where someone calls home; its all about the people anyway. As time as has passed, most conversation has strayed away from the books.

Lately I have been busy working for Apple Corporate and in the process of moving to Bellevue Washington for relocation. Lets just say its weird to have your whole life "back in boxes" once again.

I hope everyone is having a great December and for those who celebrate, a wonderful Christmas. It is unfortunate that i won't get to spend it with my family because of the dates the move fall on (and it will be the first year i'm not home for Christmas) but at least my best friend Bre is flying down to spend it with me here in Eugene OR.

I would love to get a project team together and further some progress on a new project Louis and I started and have left currently half planned in a series of documents.

Has for the forums. Each forum is different and this is important to members of each one. Not everyone is the same and everyone have different tastes. This diversity hopefully allows everyone to find a place where they feel comfortable and want to be involved in. One of the sad thing over the pass couple of years is that a couple of large inheritance related forums have closed down or just disappeared.



Well I don't believe I ever passed around any rumors, but I could be wrong. Take is as a compliment, it must be our way of saying that we would wish to be has big as IF

Well I don't know how you do it on IF, but on SF we try to delete most of the accounts that have 0 posts at least once a year. This means that our number of user is always quite close to the number of users who were active at some time.



Well I don't know which verb you had a problem with, but word censors are sometime too broad and they catch other words in the process.
