Vengeance And Blood

His back suddenly felt warm, but not uncomfortable. A sudden sense of safety washed over him as he remembered that he had laid down against Jia. He cracked open an eye and saw that he had been wedged between her belly and hind leg, making that much harder for him to get up the next morning. He didn't care. Closing his eyes again, he fell back intp sleeps embrace. [][][][][][][][] The next morning, Ka woke up feeling as though he hadn't slept at all. He was still tired, and felt as though he could go back to sleep, but knew he couldn't. He went to get up, but realized he had another problem. At some point during the night, he had wiggled, or Jia had wiggled, and her leg had actually ended up across him, pinning him. I don't honestly care if you need it or not. he said, then turned to his Rider. - - - - - - - - - - Ella made sure that everyone was healed and safe, then went behind Zeke's wings to tend to her own injuries. She removed her tunic so her torso was bare and grimaced at the damage. Selris's teeth had made a crescent half circle of holes, two of which, being bigger than the rest, were from the silver-white's fangs. She cleaned each of the open gashes, struggling a bit to reach those on her back. Once finished, she wrapped her chest and torso with a white linen bandage, tying it off at her right side. She gingerly eased into her tunic, wincing as it rubbed against the wounds on her back. She left the front of her tunic open so her injures weren't restricted. She limped out from Zeke's shelter and gazed around to make sure everyone was still alright. She froze, however, when her eye caught something that made any blood she might have regained drain from her face, leaving her cold and unmoving. She brushed silently passed her friends and family, her gaze transfixed on something deeper within the cave. She paused by a strangely shaped stone, almost like what you would find at the head of a grave. That's just what it was. A headstone. It was barely taller than her knee. She knew this because she had been the one to put it there. She had almost forgotten. Ella knelt in front of the headstone, placing a tender hand on the middle. Her head bowed in grief, tears pricking at the corner of her eyes. Engraved into the stone was a name. A name that had given her much happiness....And caused much pain. Her eyes tightened shut, remembering the depression she had suffered. It had been before she found her sister....And Daidrea. Daveon. He'd been her mate for going on thirteen years when he had been killed on a raid of Uru'baen, where she had lost him to a terrible wound in the chest. She had thought his grave would be covered with sand by now. She slept beside the grave for the night, Zeke's tail draped gingerly across her torso. In the morning she simply sat up and leaned against the headstone, waiting for the others to wake up. - - - - - - - - - - Jia growled softly in her sleep, shifting over till she was completely on her side (and freeing Ka). It has been a while since he was close to losing his life. "It seems that I have gotten careless as of late...." Selris turned attention from Rathon and focused on Kuja. Selris moved in slowly and nuzzled his nose at Kuja's shoulder. Kuja gently raised his hand and placed it on his dragon's snout. Daidrea didnt really sleep much that night. He laid on his side with his eyes half open. Thoughts racing though his mind. _________________ -------------------------------------

He got up slowly but still several things cracked; stone was an unforgiving surface to sleep on. He stretched and looked around to see who else was up. He saw Ella sitting against a rock wake, he wasn't sure if Daidrea was awake or not, and it was obvious that neither dragon was awake thanks to the loud snoring that echoed in the cave. Ka looked at Ella, and motioned at the mouth of the cave meaning he was going to find some food and would be back shortly. He wasn't sure if she got the message, or had even seen him, but regardless he left in search of food of the meat variety. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Rathon woke up slowly and against his will. He had passed out at some point during the night and simply slept in front of Selris and Kuja. He slowly pushed himself up into a sitting position, his back to Kuja. He heard a voice behind him, and realized Kuja had woken up as well. She nodded, or she thought she did, to let him know she'd gotten his message. Her thoughts were preoccupied with Daveon. If only she'd known then what she did now, she could have saved him. She pulled her legs up to her chest and wrapped her arms around her knees, resting her forehead down to rest on them. Then he held out his hand. Red energy began to form in his hand until it was a small sphere, spinning in his hand. Once it finished gathering energy, Kuja looked up at Rathon. He found some berries and fruit and such, but he didn't see and deer. He cast his mind out to see if any were nearby, but only felt the plants. "Well that sucks..." He muttered to himself. He stored the food he had in a pouch and continued hunting. After a while, and a good distance from the cave, he saw one deer. He quickly killed it with a seal. It was a fairly good sized deer, and with the fruit that he had found would make a good enough breakfast for him self and the others, but not so much for Jia and Zeke. All though he knew they could hunt better than he could, he still felt compelled to bring them food as well. He drug the body of the deer back a little ways and then resumed hunting. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Rathon turned around when Kuja called to him. His eyes glistened as he watched the red energy gathered in Kuja's hand. "Yes...yes it will. Thank you..." He held out his hand and the energy came to him. When it touched his hand it was immediately absorbed into his body. He felt the energy push against the spells that held him to Galbatorix, but that was all. He felt better now that he had more energy; not so lethargic anymore. His back was starting to ache. He wanted to keep a reminder of yesterday... Yet he felt that perhaps he was just being stubborn... letting his pride get the better of him. He came back to the cave around 3 hours after he left. He wasn't sure who was up and who wasn't so he came back in as quietly as he could. He saw the Daidrea was up, and he knew that Ella was up, he wasn't sure about Jia, Zeke, or the others. She blinked at him gratefully, her tongue flicking out to touch him on the arm. She extended her neck and took a largish piece of meat and a few different fruits. To her delight, the fruits tasted delectable, even though she was not herbivorous. - - - - - - - - - - Tyleek came back shortly behind Ka, his pouch laden with berries, nuts, and other edible plants. He placed his pouch beside Ka's for the others to get at. In his hand he held some dark red berries, almost purple. He saw Jia's eyes fix on them and widen. Juniper berries! That was a very lucky find. she commented. He grinned and held three berries up, tossing each one to the gold-amethyst. She caught the tiny projectiles easily and swallowed. He did the same for the other two dragons, then walked around to Felena, Daidrea, Ka, and Ella, giving each of them at least two berries. Finally he came to himself and ate the last two in his hand. He "washed" his hands briefly,"Those berries will return your strength and help you to relax." he explained quickly, then took another small handfull of nuts and a few fruits. - - - - - - - - - - Ella gratefully took the juniper berries. She could feel their effects almost instantly, relaxing her mind and returning some energy to her limbs. This was when she finally noticed Daidrea. And that he was still hurt. With a short grunt of stiffness, she got up from the headstone and padded over to him. She kneeled beside him, placing a hesitant hand on his shoulder,"Let me heal you. Then Daidrea glanced at the ground with a saddened look. He ate quickly, washing it down with some water; he saved the juniper berries. He leaned back against Jia and examined the cave they were in. Kind of dark, not too damp, fairly cool. If the rocks were soft, Ka would consider living here.He looked up at Jia, "Any particular time you want to leave?" It was deep and long, forcing her to use a complex spell to heal it. A few minutes later, she shakily stood. The injury was now just a pale slightly raised scar along his back. She sighed,"That's the best I can do." she turned, then paused and looked back,"Thank you for helping us." she murmured softly, so only he would hear. She paced back to the headstone and leaned against it, wrapping her arms around her legs and resting her head on her knees. A single tear fell from the corner of her eye, landing on her thigh. - - - - - - - - - - Jia snorted softly, curling her tail stiffly around Ka to assure herself that he was there. Probably in a few hours, perhaps another day. Felena was hurt pretty bad, despite being healed, and her powers aren't healing her. She's stuck, in fact, in the shape of a human woman. she said, nodding her head slightly toward the edge of the cave. There laid Ebony with his head in a human woman's lap, his multi-colored eyes filled with anguish. Felena was crooning softly, stroking his snout with one hand. Her left leg was mottled with scars, bright red and painful looking. But she showed no sign of being in pain. Jia looked back at Ka. Then he saw Ella move back over to a flat stone. He gave a curious look about it. It almost looked like a headstone but he wasnt sure. She looked rather upset. So he decided to go see what was bothering her. He went over and sat down next to her. He asked a tad awkwardly. She'll probably refuse... she murmured into his mind. - - - - - - - - - - Felena smiled a small quirk of her mouth,"No, little one. Do not waste your energy on me when yourself and your companion need it more. Once my powers return and I can shift, the wounds will heal on their own." she murmured, then cringed as Ebony's jaw brushed against her leg,"Easy there, Eb." she panted, squeezing her eyes shut. Her mate crooned, instantly contrite, and pulled his head away to prevent causing her further pain. - - - - - - - - - - Ella remained still as Daidrea sat beside her. "Good call..." he aid to Jia. He looked at Felena in the eyes. "I'll take that as ok..." He said and created a heaven seal, infusing it with the ancient language. Tendrils of white energy slithered out of the seal and onto Felena. They began searching for and healing anything they came to, not matter how small. The process took all of 2 minuets. "And now you don't have to wait." He said pleasantly, rose and walked back to Jia and sat down next her her again. She was still chortling as her Rider sat beside her and laid his head back on her side. She slowly curved her neck and placed her head beside his thigh. - - - - - - - - - - Ella bit her lip hard, trying not to break down into sobs. As it was, a few tears escaped, trickling down her cheek. She swallowed past the lump in her throat,"Daveon (Dave-e-un). He and I were sent to try and break into Uru'baen...We never made it inside. He was injured and we had to retreat. Despite doing all I could...he still died. I held him as the vitality of life left his body. I buried him here." she said hoarsely, placing her hand on the ground. Her head fell back against the stone, the tears coming in earnest now,"I lost him only a few years before I found my sister...and you." she choked, closing her eyes. As he did, he looked over at Ella, and saw that she was crying. He was instantly concerned, and had to resist walking over and seeing what was wrong. "Jia, any idea what's wrong with Ella?"
