Yes, I heard. They said that Peter Jackson is going to produce it. I can't wait to see it. I read the book about two years ago and really liked it! But I can't see why they would make it into two movies. I'm afraid if they do that that it might drag on a bit. I don't see why they can't just make one movie out of it. Any other opinions?

I think its because even tho its the same length as one lotr trilogy book, there is a lot of information in there that can't be cut out, or you would lose the story. While in the trilogy, there was a lot you could cut out and no one ever knew (unless they read the book. Charaters like Tom Bombadil for instace. he wasnt a key character so they cut him out but we all still love him)

Hopefully there will be a little less walking.....

In all seriousness, if Jackson directs it, it should be close or at the LOTR quality.

And the splitting up of it could also have an economic motive
2 times the movie= 2 times the money

Here's all the information that In know about this at the moment:

- Peter Jackson will be exective producer and he will work closely with the director who did spider-man I think.

- The Hobbit will now be complete in one movie
- The second movie is the scenes between the Hobbit and Fellowship of the Ring and also when Gandalf leaves the dwarves and bilbo.

The second movie will contain:

- Gandalf meeting with white council and driving out Sauron from Dol-Guldur
- Smeagol starting his search for the ring
- Sauron returning to Mordor
- Smeagol hunted and captured by Aragorn and Gandalf

Most of the events outlined in chapter called: "The shadow of the Past" in FOTR will be told through movie

- Filming will start in 2009
- The Hobbit will be released in 2010
- The other movie will be released 2011.

It was a good book! In some ways, it was better than The Lord of the Rings books. It wasn't quite as long and didn't drag on like parts of The Lord of the Rings did.

Well Hobit was fun and I don't think they can make such a funny movie but in this case, I'd love to be surprised...

Yeah, it definitely was shorter.
And it will help introduce the whole LOTR saga for people who haven't read the books.
I don't know about the Spiderman director though...
The guy who did the most recent one really wasn't that good...
By the way, which Spiderman director is it?

kotorchief, who wrote that poem in your signature? That was one of the best poems I have ever seen!

Actually it is the theme song for a TV show called Firefly that aired a few years ago.
Glad you like it :)

Oh and with the Hobbit, the director is going to be one of the Spiderman 3 writers, Sam Raimi (whoever that is)

Really? Because I was hearing that Del Toro was going to be directing.
I looked at wiki and found out:

I actually got some right. I read about it a long time and just check before I sounded like idiot like I normally am. Del Toro is coming out with a few good movies. The new Hellboy movie looks awesome and he's making a Cthulhu movie.

I thot the Tom Bombadil thing was pointless too, i think the hobbit will be good, especially if it's produce by the producer of Spiderman 3, cuz those were good... but they need to not make it drag on or put tooo much info in it

Nuuu! Tom Bombadil is the best non-main charry there ever was! >.< He has that.. air that lets you trust him and just makes you think he's wise and that sorta stuff. And P.J. should make The Hobbit not the makers of sm3. Just my 2 cents lol.

Well, of course Jackson should. But he is in the middle of a lawsuit with the makers, so.......

And I rechecked the director thing on
http://www.imdb.com
which is pretty reliable.

Tom Bombadil was boring, though!

Cthulhu is one of the names given to HP Lovecraft's works of horror stories. He was one of the first to combine sc-fi and horror together. He also was known for the fact that most of his protagonists died or ended up insane.

Very good reading if you like horror.

Bombadil was a boring character. It's a wonder I made it through those few chapters. Old Man Willow was ok, but I liked how they moved his role in the movie to Fangorn and had Treebeard. Now Treebeard was cool.
