this may be dumb, but eragon didnt name himself right? so selena must have named him. so why would she name him after the first rider? would she want him 2 become good? be a good dragon rider? or just put the name in 4 no particular reason( which i dont think so).

I think maybe she knew he would become a dragonrider and wanted him to have faith in himself so she named him after the first rider.
And also, maybe she chose it because of this connection that i see. Elf Eragon was the first dragon rider and The human Eragon is sorta the first new rider. Galbatorax doesn't really count cause he's like evil and he *Twirling hair and staring off into space* killed off the original group so that makes him *Thinking* lower, not really the right word but still, and so ya. Plus he doesn't really ride his dragon that much any more does he?

That's a definite possibility. She may have known that he would become a great Dragonrider in the future so she chose that particular name. I've always thought it was just natural instinct or maybe somehow the original Eragon is distantly related to Eragon and so he was named after a family member.

I think he might be distantly related to the first eragon and so he was named Eragon after him. or perhaps someone could tell the future and say that Eragon would be a dragonrider, the first of a new generation and thus decided to name him after the original dragon rider: Eragon the first.

Maybe he was given that name Because she hoped that he would not be like hid father and so her might figure out who his father was. I don't think Anglna would have told her the name. But maybe Solmbom did he is a wercat so who knows. I also think that a person has more of a chance to become a Dragon Rider if their blood line has riders in them. That means their mother, father, grandparents, Ect. But only Direct blood line and selna Knew that. I mean dosen't it seem weird that both Eragon and Mertag became Rider? Who knows maybe Grand father or Grandmother was a rider as well. Also Gablotorix would know that by now.The one that must be certon is that she did not kill her self. A long Journey home on foot,after giving birth in the not so clean conditions could kill any Female.
