That can't be him ... he's a hobbit.
There's something beneath the uniform I think, lol.
Oh wow .. bad costume also.

Saw the picture a little bit ago. See why I said it's going to be a failure?
Here's Patel in costume:

Anyone see a scar? No? Good, I'm not hallucinating then.

 Re: avatar rocks
Yeah, from these pictures I'm starting to have doubts about this movie. The settings look nothing like the actual scenery from the show. For some reason, I think all that stuff M. Night Shyamalan was saying about his family loving the show was a bunch of bull.
Dev Patel looks like a frisky desi guy trying to look "hot" (though there's no way that's possible, even when he's standing directly in fire), and Noah Ringer looks like he's pregnant.

 Re: avatar rocks
Alright, alright, guys, let's not bash them completely. Can't judge by one single picture, I mean, the kid for Aang could be fine in the movie, maybe the picture makes it look like he's a little pudgy around the middle. And his facial features match Aang's pretty well, if you look closely.
What's more important is that he has experience in martial arts. Even if he looks a bit young, at least they don't need a stunt double. xD
As for Dev Patel...well, I already dislike him for his talentless acting in Slumdog Millionaire. A complete failure in my opinion. Look at it this way... he s*cked in Slumdog and he's going to s*ck now, but hey, at least he's consistent. xD

WHAT?!? That kid looks like a fruit! He has no expression! Even if he does have martial arts skills, he still needs to be a good actor. I can't imagine that kid playing the role of Aang. Oh wow, he's bald. That makes him look just like Aang! Psch. They could've done so much better.
Lol that's not a good thing!

 Re: avatar rocks
He is excessively fruit-ish. His face looks like something I can't put my finger on, but it'll come to me. All I know is that it doesn't look like Aang. He's like... a newborn alien with an allergic reaction.
I don't like neither Zuko's nor Aang's actors. But, like arya_rox said, I shouldn't say much until I actually see the movie for myself. They may be surprisingly good, so I'll try to go easy on them for now. Maybe the trailer will help me decide whether or not they'll be decent.
When do you guys think they'll start showing some more characters n costume?

 Re: avatar rocks
Well, the character of Aang that I now isn't all that serious, especially in the beginning of the show. He was always sort of a goofy kid in the first season, except when he's in some kind of big battle, like The Siege of the North. Maybe it's just a pose..
The guy for Sokka (Jackson Rathbone) was Jasper in Twilight, a pretty serious guy, I would say. And now he's playing Sokka in the The Last Airbender- the least serious guy in the whole show! All I can hope for now is that he's a GOOD actor.

 Re: avatar rocks
i guess it depends how good an actor the kid is and im glad aang agrees with me...dont knock the movie till youv seen it
and about jackson rathbone.... if you see the behind the scenes stuff and interveiws from twilight then you would have no trouble seeing he is the craziest guy ever! hes funny as so i have no trouble imagining him as sokka..sept for maybe the seriously american accent.that could be a problem

 Re: avatar rocks
Yup, no problem. Yeah, let's cross our fingers that these actors know how to do their jobs. From what we know, each of them has previously been in a movie in the past, so hopefully their experiences on camera will help improve this movie.
Huh, really? That's a plus then.. I don't think the American accent will be a problem. Each character in the Gaang has an American accent. The people who really will need some sort of Asian accent are people like Jeong Jeong, Guru Pathik, and Iroh. Of course there are others, but you can think of them yourselves.

Um, okay..
Well, I saw Arya on this Avatar website this morning, called TheAvatarPortal.org. They update often, and yesterday an interview with Jackson Rathbone (the actor for Sokka) was posted. You can watch the interview directly here.
It's really kind of short and dry, but it was worth posting.

 Re: avatar rocks
This kid might be playing Haru.

Does he bare any resemblance to him?

Then again, he could not be playing Haru. It said his role was "Earthbending boy", but seeing as how "Earthbending father"s role is probably that of Tyro, we can assume he's playing his son.

All I'm going to say is that that kid is a bowl of fruit custard. And that he's in second grade. I shouldn't complain though, every member of the cast so far has been terrible, though I think this one is the worst.
Oh, and Happy Destiny Day to everyone, especially in this topic!

Dude, the guy playing Zhao is definitely Shyamalan's 2nd cousin from Goa named Ramesh Chopra Kapoor.

*Mouth drops open* 10?? What a baby! Wait, no, like I said, I'm not going to say anything more. I must contain myself.
LOL, yeah, I think that may be the truth about him. Otherwise, he's M. Night Shyamalan's ex-husband.

Why contain it? Trashing this movie is fun Has everyone seen how unbelievably NOT Aang Noah Ringer is?
Yeah, he definitely didn't want to pay alimony, so he offered him the role to appease him :nods head:

I like that other Iroh quote as well, the one from Avatar Day.

Good idea, brethren. Let's discuss ... Dev Patel! He's ugly! No ... I don't feel like trashing him right now, we can do that later
Does anyone on this god forsaken planet know whether or not they are making a mini-series? Come on M&B, what are you guys doing? Chilling by the beach in Cacuna? Get off your lazy keisters and make some Avatar!

Yes, we'll save that. I can't wait to read what he thinks about it.
Lol, I don't think they'll be making a mini-series. I'm guessing after the three live-action movies, we'll be done. But remember, Avatar has gone deep into our hearts, so it'll never leave us now!

 Re: avatar rocks
Yeah, but they left out SO much stuff that can easily be put together to make a mini-series. There's the whole Ursa thing, and some other stuff I forget at the moment. Aang can probably fill me up on that.
I actually hope that they don't make a spin-off of Avatar with other characters, because that'll just ruin it. What do you guys think?

Yeah, it'd probably ruin it. It might be a real-life Ember Island Players.

 Re: avatar rocks
Haha, oh yeah, I remember that. There are plenty of things that they could explain, though I doubt they're going to. Oddly enough, the whole Avatar cast and crew seems to be unenthusiastic about a continuation of the series. I guess they're too focused on the live-action at the moment to be concerned with a show continuation. I can't blame them, these movies are a big deal. I mean, most would expect a Nick movie to air only on Nick, but this baby's making it to theaters!
True, that would ruin it and would be a failure. I would watch it of course, but probably not like it. A group of people on Youtube are making their very own continuation of the show, with whole new characters. I have absolutely no faith in that though, lol.

Yeah, it's pretty surprising how Nick even agreed to make the movie in the first place, seeing as how they hate Avatar and love their other low-grade shows.
Oh, that stupid Dawning of Darkness thing? Epic fail x 10, dude. Watching that makes me feel like re-watching an episode, just to cleanse myself of that wannabe filth.
SIDE NOTE: Who loves Kataang? ME! Look at that sig ... the way they're looking into each others' eyes ... Zutarians need to see it.

 Re: avatar rocks
I know. They probably realized how good the show was after winning so many awards and having a live-action movie be made out of it. It's too late to show that they like it though now because it's over.
Lol I know, right?! The animation looks so bad and amateur-made. But weren't that having Dante Basco do some voice acting for them??
LOL that is one damn nice sig. I still wonder how you make stuff like that. And I don't see how- in way possible- Zutara could ever have happened.

Yeah, I'm not sure what was going on through their minds when they thought of that. I think M. Night Shyamalan had a big influence on it though; if you have a famous movie director offer to create a live-action movie out of your show, you don't refuse. He may be ruining this movie, but come on, we need to thank him for at least giving us some Avatar to look forward to.
Haha, yeah, it's going to be pathetic. Dante Basco? I remember hearing that, but I bet they were lying to get more subscribers. There's no way a completely unheard-of group on Youtube get someone like him to help with a continuation.
I second that opinion of Nida's sig. Great job, Photoshop Queen.
Zutara is for frisky people.

 Re: avatar rocks
Well, yeah, but, still .... Dev Patel? Oh, where's that weird 300-ish picture of him ... :looks:

What's with his hair? Where's the ponytail? People were commenting on that, saying that it "just loOks lyk sooOo much betterr this way". What about when he and Iroh cut off their ponytails, which are symbols of their Fire Nation lineage, to symbolize that they're now refugees? "You never think these things through!" Listen to Iroh, he know his cookies.
Hmph, no one even likes the Dawning of Darkness thing.
@Aang & Sokka: Thanks, kiddos
AGREED. Why can't they see that whole-hearted Kataangy goodness?

 Re: avatar rocks
I edited the picture to comment on it a bit. I'll explain markings 1, 2, and 3 now.

1.) What the heck is this guy holding? It looks to me like an antique lamp or something, which I'm sure never existed in the Avatar world. Or maybe this guy has an obsession for lamps. Look closely, you can even see him smiling a bit as he looks at his brand new lamp.
2.) What's with this guy? He looks like he just took a hard dump. And where is his Fire Nation uniform? I thought their uniforms were supposed to be red, since fire is pretty much distinguished by red. I doubt M. Night Shyamalan is going to change the movie to having the Water Nation and the Fire Tribes or something like that...
3.) Why is Devy wearing a fur coat?? Why are they ALL wearing fur coats? I understand it's cold there, you poor babies, but come on, get the movie right!
PS: I didn't add the little title above Dev Patel. It was there before I edited it.

 Re: avatar rocks
Niceness.
I added a little:

1.) Lol I think it's his helmet, but I didn't realize it until Arya pointed it out.
2.) Linky. Hm, I'd say the helmets aren't too bad, but clearly, those uniforms are red, not blue.
3.) LOL in the same link as before, none of them were wearing fur coats. Duh, aren't they supposed to be FIREBENDERS?!? I'm starting to doubt Shymalan even watched the show.
4.) Not bad, not bad.
5.) A sword?! Why in the world would any of them have swords? I thought Sokka was the first to have a single sword, and that wasn't until Season 3!
6.) Uh...huh. I hope that wasn't on purpose.

 Re: avatar rocks
LOL, looks like you guys are diagram-happy XD
A lot of the stuff you pointed out doesn't really click with me either. First off, they do not need big huge parkas. They can firebend for warmth. Stop killing animals, Shymala-llama! Plus they aren't supposed to have swords. It's common knowledge that the Fire Nation is the nation with the highest amount of firebenders and that all soldiers are firebenders, except for those Yin Yan archers. So again, waste of money on props. LOL ... number 6 is just unexplainable. Plus, what's with Patel's face? He looks like he has cholera or something :/

Yeah, it does kind of look like Mulan. I bet that's where Shymalan got "inspiration" from. What a boob.
Have you guys noticed that ASN is awful with updates these days? Avatar Portal is where it's at now. They have updates there all the time. Though most of them are kinda dull. Well, it's better than nothing, I suppose.

 Re: avatar rocks
@ Aang and Sokka: Haha, nice diagrams I agree on the props/costumes, they're so off, it's not even funny. `~` And does anyone see a scar? It looks like it's really really faint, but I think I see it... =/@elve king : Hey, haven't seen you around for a while! Back to the old avatar rocks thread, hmm? ^.^ Now we're just missing one more person... Haha, I agree xD The Huns! They look like the Huns! Dude, the Huns would be better for this movie than Dev Patel At least they're the right nationality..@Arya: Nice font color change Back to the old days I haven't really been checking updates at all; Shymallama has already lost my interest in this movie Though I do want to see the trailer. I bet it'll be so stupid, lol. Seriously? Only a week? I can't wait to see Transformers, either! =D Hehehe n__n
You know what bugs me, though? The whole thing where "Zuko"/Dev Fruitcake doesn't have the ponytail I mean... Yeah, so what if Zuko didn't look "hot" with it? Is that their only freaking concern? When Zuko and Iroh cut off their ponytails, it was meant to be a symbolic way of showing that they were leaving behind their lives to become refugees. From that point, Zuko went through a lot...the whole transition had meaning. They can't just make him not have a ponytail from the beginning Stupid Shymalamamoron.

So I was watching the episode Day Of the Black Sun. So sad. It made me miss avatar so much. Today my brother rented a Playstation Avatar game. It was horrible! I'm REALLY hoping this movie turns out much better than some of their other things....
Those pictures. LOL. Someone likes to diagram. xD The whole pony tail isnt my main concern. They just better keep the whole, scar on his face thing. It really defines Zuko alot. It cant just look like he has a black eye or something.
I'm crazy excited to see Transformers also. Can't wait to see the trailor!

WOW. THAT IS SUCH A BIG SWORD HILT. What are we looking at, a preview for Peter Pan!?
At least I think they had a big sword hilt in Peter Pan, I watched it mkaybe 8 years ago.

 Re: avatar rocks
I saw that in the theater, before Transformers. Nothing exciting, really. All we see is him putting out those candles (who lit all those by the way?) and then the Fire Nation ships come, which makes no sense, because Aang was never there when the Fire Nation ambushed the Air Temples, but whatever floats your boat M Night Shymalan. Plus we got to see no characters whatsoever and the airbending was lackluster. And the dramatic music didn't fit the boring camerawork.

 Re: avatar rocks
It made it look...odd. What was the point of Noah dancing around with a stick in a red hood? Plus I agree with Arya, you don't get to see the character's, nothing very exciting that makes me want to go and see it.

 Re: avatar rocks
Yeah, it seemed like they should have at least shown the main charries. I guess it was cool though with the effects. The plot definitely seems to have been altered a bit to fit into 2 hours. Hopefully it still makes sense though.
In other news, Avatar is going to be at the San Diego Comic Con again this year, and Mike and Bryan are making a documentary on the making of the show, so that should be interesting.

Well, yeah, it's just that they could have at least shown something more. Even if it was a teaser.
The movie's done filming now, by the way. Releasing in.... 11 months or so.

Yeah, the trailer was okay. So far this movie seems serious to me. I can't imagine how they're going to show all the humor in Avatar after seeing that. Hopefully M. Night Shyamalan knows what he's doing and Mike and Bryan are taking action in their movie.

It's a teaser trailer for a reason, not meant to really show anything but to announce the fact that they are making it. The little clip makes me want to learn much more about it now.

 Re: avatar rocks
Yeah, that makes sense. I just hope there's a longer trailer coming out soon. They're done filming, so they should have plenty to show us.
And it does seem pretty serious. I guess the whole humorous side of the show will have to be sacrificed to give it more cinematic appeal. Plus I don't think M. Night Shymalan's movies have ever been funny or humorous.
On a side note, we're watching the show over again right now, just like last summer. Just watched The Boy in the Iceberg and the Avatar Returns last night. Obsessed much?

 Re: avatar rocks
Yeah, Nicktoons does show it a lot. Nick doesn't though, ever.
More news on The Last Airbender:
It's being said that the movies are going to be written, filmed, and released in a span of about 6 years. They're not doing all of the filming at once, but rather all of the set, script, and filming for each movie separately. I don't know if this is a good thing or not, because by the time the last movie comes around all the actors will be a bit too old for their characters. For instance, Noah Ringer [Aang] will be 18.
Also, it's been confirmed that Appa and Momo will, in fact, be in the movies. A lot of people were worrying that they wouldn't, due to budget limitations, but that isn't the case. So, we get to see our furry friends in the movie.

 Re: avatar rocks
I'm glad they are splitting it into other movies. Means more detail can be added. It's going to be hard enough combining all the chapter into what like a 2 hour movie?
Appa HAS to be in the movie. Even though he's not a main character in a sense, he still is in like everything. How else are they going to describe their transportation. Like they are going to walk everywhere lol. Momo at least wasn't a necessary character but he would probably add some comedy into it. If they keep a few scenes with Sokka and Momo in the movie.

 Re: avatar rocks
What is Austar? Lol
And we all knew they were going to be making 3 movies, that wasn't the point of what I was saying. What I intended to focus on was the fact that they're going to do all the filming, scripting, and other stuff separately for each movie. Meaning that by the time the last movie comes around Aang is going to be 18 years old when he's supposed to be 12!
And yes, Appa is quite important, he's the Avatar's animal guide. Momo's just fun, so they have to have him, lol.

 Re: avatar rocks
Well i don't know about him being 18 but yea he will be older than he's supposed to be, but i think they will anticipate this and make the 3 movies faster.... plus... the first movie always takes the longest... like cuase they gotta get the main cast together and stuff, as for the second and third, yea they need some new cast such as toph and azula and everyone else, but that will go much faster...

 Re: avatar rocks
no... no thats not what im saying at all... my post was just saying that making all three movies isnt going to take that long and the longest movie to make will most likely be the first becuase they had to find all of the cast... the second and third movies will only add a few people each

 Re: avatar rocks
Yeah, the casting will definitely not take that much time. But the scripting and filming will .... I just hope they don't take 6 whole years to finish the movie. We can't have Aang as an 18 year old. He's 12, that just ... won't work at all ...
Anyway, have you guys noticed how weird Aang's arrow is in the movie? For some reason it has the Air Nomad symbol in the center of the arrow and it's not even a solid arrow! Why, Shymalan ... why? What's the need to do this? Why can't you just get it right??

Hey elve King, welcome back to the topic! It's nice to see former fans returning to post about the best show ever. This reminds me of last summer.
Yeah, I guess it looks pretty cool.. though I still think they should be getting the details right. They have both of the show's co-creators sitting by Shyamalan's side throughout the whole making of the movie. The storyline better at least be similar to the actual one.
Yeah, we've seen it, a few posts back and on the big screen when we saw Transformers 2. It looks pretty sweet, except of course it has a few many flaws. My accusation will remain consistent throughout the entire film though.

I watched this show for the first time about an hour ago. =) I think I kinda like it. The episodes were from somewhere in the Earth chapter, whatever that is. xD It seemed that Toph was rather new. Well anyway, she's my favorite character. =)
I have no idea what yalll are talking about, so I'll be quiet and come back when I see more of the show. xD

@Silver: Oh okay, well then you wouldn't be able to watch this show, right? There's always eps online if you want them.@Kotor : Oh, if you like it, you should definitely watch from the beginning! It's a bit more kiddish in the earlier eps, but it gets really good during the Earth season and Season 3 Fire can't really be considered for kids @elve king : Yeah, the preview was kinda cool, but it seemed to have a major plot change. Like how Aang was in the air temple while the Fire Nation was attacking it! And, yes, I DO like color coding my posts like this! It's fun!

Arya- LOL. So i see (about the color-coding) I saw the pic of Aang's arrow. THAT SO DOES NOT LOOK LIKE IT! Lol...but i guess...well it's better than looking painted on? The first book is very kiddish...i don't even like watching those eps much anymore. I loved the FIRE book the best lol...obviously.

It's fun, but not as fun as crack-shipping! AYEE! {evil Zutarian fangirl screech}
@The arrow: Could be better, but not that bad I guess. I just wish they didn't feel the need to change everything. Would it have been a crime to have kept it as it was supposed to be?
Oh come on, Season 1 was still good! There were a lot of good episodes there. Like The Fortuneteller, the Blue Spirit, Avatar Roku, and Siege of the North was awesome ... Even The Great Divide had its moments
I hope they cut out Jet in the movie though ... he was sort of important in season two, but I just hated him ....

I saw it today =D I never really understoof how Aang grew hair and was in fire nation but I finally saw the first episode of Season 3. Thats explains a lot. In the third book do you think they are going to have Zuko find his mother?

 Re: avatar rocks
Mainly his role was helping the GAang reach Long Feng under Lake Laogai. So yeah, he was pretty important in Season 2. Without him, they wouldn't be able to have gotten Appa back. Question is ... why don't they have an actor for him then?
He grew hair because he was unconscious for a couple of weeks, meaning he didn't shave his head for a while. And he was in the Fire Nation because the GAang caught up with Hakoda, Bato, etc and stole a Fire Nation ship. Did you read the Nick Magazine Avatar edition? It kind of explained all that. Also how Maiko randomly happened.
And you really haven't seen Season 3?? Well, I can't answer your question. It's kind of a spoiler.

That's like watching a movie and then turning it off right before the climax ...
What the ... ? Why is the topic name suddenly capitalized? That's random ... but oh well, I guess ...
Did you guys know that the girl playing Katara [Nicole Peltz] was in the Miley Cyrus video for the song 7 Things? Here's a video.
I really don't care if people think she's 'pretty' or 'lovely' [like the guy who made the video], she is NOT Katara, plain and simple. This is just horrific ... not to be rude but I think Shymalan has a mental disability.

Katara: "Are you saying I'm a liar?" Sokka: "No, I'm saying you're an optimist. Same thing, basically."
It's just hard to see this show which I love so much being stripped of all its uniqueness and originality and ruined by a director who obviously doesn't know what he's doing. *Sigh*
Anyway, here's the complete list of actors for the movie. So if you wanna know who's who ... it's there.

 Re: Avatar rocks
Lol, don't worry about it. For some reason a lot of people think I'm similar to Katara, and I have no idea why I'm not that cool. I mean, have you seen her hair loopies?
And I actually think you could do a better job than M. Night Shymalan. I mean, at least you watched the show, right? I bet he didn't watch it .. I bet he was lying in that interview...
I don't understand it ... why Nicole Peltz for Katara? She was in a Miley Cyrus video and some Christmas movie and that's it! She's not going to be able to do the action scenes. Unless she goes to a boot camp or something. Or buys some acting skillz on eBay.

 Re: Avatar rocks
If she's only been in those two things though...how do we know what her acting ability is like? Shehasn't really gotten to show many sides of her. So maybe she'll surprise us?

 Re: Avatar rocks
yeah.
it's not really a big deal for me if they go completely off the storyline. I mean, it would be way more cool if they didn't, but I'm pretty sure it'll still turn out to be a cool movie... *shrug*

 Re: Avatar rocks
I doubt the storyline will be too off, since Mike and Bryan are co-writing the script with M. Night Shymalan. If there's one thing I trust with this movie, it'll be the plot. Even if it's slightly changed, I know it'll still make sense and work out. I trust M & B.

 Re: Avatar rocks
Hm, yeah, they won't let him change anything too drastically. I wonder if they'll take out a lot of episodes. A handful of them are just filler episodes, but they are some really important ones too. For instance, Avatar Roku pretty much described the whole show's plot. And The Storm explains Aang and Zuko's past. Plus, they should have some Kataangy episodes too, like The Fortuneteller. Of course they also have to include The Siege of the North. If not.. somebody's gonna get a hurt real bad!
By the way, tonight we're watching episodes 1 and 2 of Season 2, which are The Avatar State and The Cave of Two Lovers.

 Re: Avatar rocks
Nah, you'll post here again, lol. I doubt it'll be like Eragon. It seems to me like a lot more work is being put into this movie. Plus, you can't judge the movie by a minute-long teaser trailer. All the showed were two clips with some narration. Just have patience and wait for a full trailer before making predictions.
